Neuroleptic malignant syndrome caused by atypical antipsychotic drugs may present in an atypical manner without symptoms such as hyperthermia and/or muscle rigidity. A detailed description of atypical neuroleptic malignant syndrome induced by atypical antipsychotic drugs, practical information to distinguish neuroleptic malignant syndrome from other related conditions, and the diagnostic criteria that may be used to settle the diagnosis of atypical neuroleptic malignant syndrome are highlighted in this paper. This study was conducted searching PubMed and Science Direct, resulting in 525 articles. 26 case reports that met inclusion criteria were identified. Atypical neuroleptic malignant syndrome was found to develop mainly in male patients suffering from schizophrenia (14 cases) and bipolar disorder (2), and was induced by clozapine (6 cases), olanzapine (5 cases), aripiprazole and quetiapine (4 cases). Muscle rigidity did not develop in patients treated with clozapine and quetiapine, whereas a lack of hyperthermia was common with aripiprazole and clozapine treatment. Atypical neuroleptic malignant syndrome is a difficult matter, especially when symptoms of hyperthermia or muscle rigidity is lacking, but using Levenson's or Adityanjee and Aderibigbe's criteria may increase it detectability, can permit earlier intervention and prevent development of life-threatening typical neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

Aims The number of cardiovascular procedures using the coronary sinus (CS) as a gateway is constantly increasing. The present study aimed to define specific structures within CS, which could potentially complicate CS cannulation and to develop a new Thebesian valve (TV) classification system. Methods and results The study was performed on 560 consecutive unfixed cadaveric hearts during routine autopsy examination (1–3 days post-mortem). Basic CS dimensions were measured and the presence and dimensions of the TV and the Vieussens valve (VV) were assessed. Thebesian valves were classified according to their morphology into six main types: remnant fold, semilunar, fenestrated, chord, fused strands, and mixed shaped. The median age of hearts was 48 years (range 16–95 years), and 38.9% were female. Thebesian valve was present in 79.5%. The most common TV type was semilunar (54%) followed by fenestrated (8.2%), remnant fold (5.5%), fused strands (4.8%), chord (4.0%), and mixed shaped (3.0%). In 1.1% of hearts, TV totally covered the coronary sinus ostium (CSO). The VV was detected in 67.9%. Potentially occlusive VV was found in 1.1% hearts and in all of which it coexisted with obstructive TV. The median CSO area was 87.9 mm2 [interquartile range (IQR): 56.5–127.1 mm2] and median CS length was 38 mm (IQR: 29.5–45 mm). The CSO area and CS length correlated with each other and with the right atrium’s dimensions. Conclusion We identified six types of TVs, among which only 1.1% TVs caused total occlusion of CSO. The obstructive TV co-existed with potentially occlusive VV what might hinder CS cannulation.

This introduction presents the fifth volume of a series started twelve years ago: the AI Approaches to the Complexity of Legal Systems (AICOL). The introduction revises the recurrently addressed topics of technology, Artificial Intelligence and law and presents new challenges and areas of research, such as the AI ethical and legal turn, hybrid and conflictive intelligences, regulatory compliance and AI explainability. Other domains not yet fully explored include the regulatory models of the Web of Data and the Internet of Things that integrate legal reasoning and legal knowledge modelling.

As we have previously reported, the ORPKI electronic data capture is monitored continuously and modified according to the needs of the rapidly changing everyday practice of interventional cardiology not only in Poland but also worldwide as required by ESC guidelines [1, 2]. The database is endorsed by the Association of Cardiovascular Interventions of the Polish Cardiac Society (AISN PTK) and is daily operated by the Jagiellonian University Medical College, with currently 154 interventional cardiology centers in Poland reporting. ORPKI database analysis of various trends and patterns is published each year [3–5]. On 31st of December 2020 there were 575 PCI operators certified by the AISN PTK in Poland.

Paranoid schizophrenia is a chronic, psychotic disorder which can be treated with long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotic drugs. There are risperidone (Risperdal Consta®), olanzapine (Zypadhera®), paliperidone (Xepilon®) and aripiprazole (Abilify Maintena®) currently available. The aim of this study was to present a case history of the patient to whom monthly injections of aripiprazole effectively prevented both relapses of psychotic symptoms and hospitalizations. Case report: A 55-year-old male patient with a 13-year history of paranoid schizophrenia has been effectively treated with aripiprazole (LAI) (400mg, every 4 weeks). During the last 8 years of treatment his mental state has been stabilized, without any acute psychotic symptoms and without any anxiety, or violent behaviours. Moreover, there have been no psychotic symptoms, or suicidal thoughts, or tendencies recordered. Therefore, no hospitalization has been required. However, despite the treatment, negative symptoms such as blunted affect, cognitive dysfunction and social withdrawal have been sustained. Discussion: The available articles on aripiprazole (LAI) treatment indicate that it was effective in reducing the positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia, as well as reducing the frequency and duration of hospitalization. However, the case report of a patient who has not had relapses of psychotic symptoms and suicidal thoughts and has not been hospitalized during 8 years of treatment with aripiprazole (LAI) has not yet been reported. Conclusions: Regular, long-term injections of aripiprazole (LAI) are very effective at preventing positive symptoms of schizophrenia development and preventing both suicidal thoughts and hospitalizations. Therefore, treatment with this drug in everyday practice should be increased.

The widespread use of personal insulin pumps in the treatment of type 1 diabetes has significantly improved the effects of therapy. Patients achieved better metabolic control of diabetes, but also increased comfort of life and professional opportunities. One of the func­tions that increased the effectiveness of insulin therapy using a personal insulin pump is the bolus calculator. The bolus calculator function allows the user to dose their insulin more accurately before meals and to correct hyperglycaemia. The bolus calculator algorithms in insulin pumps of individual manufacturers differ in the way they calculate the correction dose and the amount of so-called active insulin. Consequently, with the same treatment parameters, individual bolus calculators may offer a different dose of insulin. Understanding the principles of the bolus calculator by therapeutic team members and patients is very important for proper diabetes education and diabetes management.

BACKGROUND: Balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) is a promising therapy for patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) who are ineligible for pulmonary endarterectomy. AIMS: The present study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of BPA for CTEPH using the first multicentre registry of a single European country. METHODS: Data were obtained from the Database of Pulmonary Hypertension in the Polish Population (NCT03959748), a prospective, multicentre registry of adult and paediatric pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and CTEPH, for a total of 236 patients with confirmed CTEPH (124 women; mean age 67 years) who underwent 1,056 BPA procedures at eight institutions in Poland. Background: A pulmonary embolism response team (PERT) is a multidisciplinary team established to improve clinical care for patients with pulmonary embolism (PE). However, data regarding detailed institutional experience and clinical outcomes from such teams are sparse. Aims: We aim to assess the frequency of activations, patients’ characteristics, PE severity, applied treatments, and outcomes of PE patients treated by Polish PERTs. Methods: The survey registry was conducted between June 2018 and July 2020. All consecutive PERT activations of four institutionalized PERTs in Poland were analyzed. Patients’ characteristics, therapies applied, and in-hospital outcomes were evaluated. Results: There were 680 unique PERT activations. The majority of activations originated from emergency departments (44.9%), and the remaining originated from internal medicine/cardiology units (31.1%), surgery/orthopedics (9.1 %), oncology (6.3%), intensive care units (6.0%), and others (2.5%). Type 1 diabetes (T1DM) often coexists with other autoimmune diseases, most commonly with hypothyroidism. To date, the influence of coexisting autoimmune hypothyroidism (AHT) on the course of chronic neurovascular complications of autoimmune diabetes has not been established. The aim of the study was to assess the relationship between AHT and the occurrence of chronic T1DM complications. The study group comprised 332 European Caucasian participants with T1DM [165 (49.7%) men]. AHT was recognized in subclinical and overt hypothyroidism and confirmed by the presence of anti-thyroid autoantibodies: anti-peroxidase (ATPO) and/or anti-thyroglobulin (ATg) and ultrasonography (hypoechogenicity, parenchymal heterogeneity, lymph nodes assessment). In the analyzed group, 48.5% of patients were diagnosed with at least one neurovascular complication. At the time of enrollment, 16.3% of participants were diagnosed with AHT. Patients with AHT, compared to those without AHT, were characterized by a higher prevalence of neurovascular complications (64.8 vs. 45.3%; P = 0.009) and retinopathy (55.6 vs. 38.9%; P = 0.02). There were significant differences between groups with and without neurovascular complications, with regard to classic risk factors for chronic diabetes complications: age, T1DM duration, SBP, DBP, HbA1c, TG, eGFR and hypertension prevalence. In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, AHT was an independent predictor of neurovascular complications after adjusting for age, DBP, HbA1c and TG (odds ratio, 2.40; 95% confidence interval, 1.17–4.92; P = 0.02). AHT coexisting with T1DM was associated with a higher incidence of neurovascular complications.

Introduction Inflammation and angiogenesis disturbances are considered as factors contributing to the development of coronary artery ectasias (CAE). Endocan (endothelial cell-specific molecule-1 – ESM-1) regulates both inflammatory and angiogenetic processes. However, there are no data about the correlation between endocan level and the severity of CAE measured with total volume of coronary artery dilation. Aim To assess whether the severity of the inflammatory process measured as endocan concentration correlates with the total volume of CAE. Material and methods We selected prospectively a total of 43 consecutive patients with coronary artery ectasia from 2240 patients who underwent coronary angiography in our center. Determination of endocan was performed by using the Human Endothelial cell-specific Molecule 1 (ECSM1/ENDOCAN) ELISA Kit. 3D QCA (three-dimensional quantitative coronary angiography) was used for coronary lesion and aneurysm quantification. The total volume of dilation was defined as the volume of all aneurysms and ectasias of coronary arteries in 1 patient. Results The mean volume of all aneurysms in 1 patient was 677 ±878.7 mm3. The total aneurysm volume was positively strongly correlated with endocan concentration (Pearson correlation coefficient: 0.811; 2-tailed p < 0.001). Conclusions Endocan is a potential marker of vascular wall damage mainly as a result of inflammation in the course of atherosclerosis, but also vascular remodeling as a result of a disturbance of pro- and anti-angiogenic processes. Endocan level reflects the intensity of the above processes and therefore correlates with the severity of CAE, measured as the total volume of dilation.

The presence of patent foramen ovale (PFO) was found to be associated with a number of medical conditions, including embolic stroke and recurrent transient neurological defects. The closure of PFO remains controversial; however, in recently published guidelines from the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions in collaboration with 7 other European societies, which extensively refer to the latest randomized clinical trials, it is explicitly recommended to perform percutaneous PFO closure in the prevention of recurrent thromboembolic events. In connection with the above facts and expected increasing number of PFO closure procedures, the joint expert group of the Association of Cardiovascular Interventions and the Grown‑Up Congenital Heart Disease Section of the Polish Cardiac Society developed the following consensus opinion in order to standardize the principles of diagnosis, indications, methods of performing procedures, and postoperative care in relation to Polish conditions and experiences.

The aim of the paper is to present the structure and research potential of the newly created measurement and information system for observing dynamic phenomena occurring in the Earth's crust in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin (USCB) in Poland as a result of mining activities. The structure of the system is similar to the one developed for monitoring the movements of the European tectonic plate under the European Plate Observation System (EPOS) programme. The measurement part of the system consists of stationary devices and sensors working in monitoring mode, installed in various locations of the USCB, both on the surface and underground, as well as data sets from periodically performed measurements using land, air and satellite techniques. The IT part of the system will create a local data centre with specialized and dedicated processing and modelling software in which all measurement data will be archived and processed to a form which enables the analysis of the short and long-term impact of mining operations on the environment. As one of the elements of the system will be observations of the short and long-term gravity and morphology changes, the collected data will enable research in the field of the geodynamics of mining areas to be conducted. Introduction Ischemic postconditiong (postcon) has been reported to reduce infarct size in ST-segment myocardial infarction (STEMI). However, recently a few other studies did not show any effect of postcon or suggested that it may even be harmful. Aim We sought to assess whether postcon could reduce infarct size (IS) and the microvascular obstruction (MVO) zone in early presenters with STEMI. Material and methods Seventy-four STEMI patients treated with primary coronary intervention (PCI) < 4 h from symptoms onset were randomly assigned to the postcon group (n = 37) or standard PCI group (n = 37). Postcon was performed immediately after obtaining reperfusion with 4 balloon occlusions, each lasting 60 s, followed by 60 seconds of reperfusion. Cardiac magnetic resonance was performed in all subjects within 48 to 96 h after admission. To evaluate the infarct size and MVO, the late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) technique was used. Infarct size was defined as an area greater than 50% of the maximal signal intensity within LGE. MVO was defined as the area of the absence or hypoenhancement of contrast surrounded by LGE. Infarct size and MVO were determined by planimetry and the summation of discs method. Results Postcon was associated with significantly smaller IS (16.42 ±9.6 vs. 31.2 ±22.2 g; p = 0.007) and higher ejection fraction (59.8 ±9.2% vs. 52.3 ±10.2%). The extent of MVO was significantly lower in the postcon group in comparison to the control group (0.76 ±1.4 g vs. 2.2 ±3.2 g; p = 0.03). Conclusions In early presenters with STEMI postcon could significantly reduce infarct size and limit reperfusion injury.

Aim Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a disease characterized by an absolute deficiency of endogenous insulin secretion. Insulin resistance (IR) may develop among patients with T1DM. Vitamin D deficiency was reported to be a risk factor in the development of IR. The aim of the study was to assess the relationship between serum concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and IR among patients with T1DM. Methods The test group consisted of 110 adult patients [males=65 (59%)] with T1DM. Participants were recruited in Poland between 1st October and 30th April in 2015/2016 and 2016/2017. VD serum level was assessed by ELISA array. IR was assessed by estimated Glucose Disposal Rate (eGDR). Results In the study group 21 (19%) patients were recognized as IR according to eGDR cut-offs ( Conclusion The serum concentration of Vitamin D is negatively associated with insulin resistance in patients with T1DM and may have clinical implications.

An increase in temperature causes higher evaporation of water from water bodies; consequently, the water content in the atmosphere also increases. The precipitable water (PW), as the water content in the atmospheric air column, is therefore an important parameter to consider when studying climate change. The aim of this study was to analyse multi-annual precipitable water data derived from a dense Global Navigational Satellite Systems (GNSS) network. Twelve years of observations from over a hundred ASG-EUPOS stations were used to estimate changes in precipitation water values over Poland. The data were validated by comparison with the available radio-sounding data. The analysis of the GPS-based PW values showed an upward trend in the PW value of 0.078 mm/year. The spatio-temporal distribution of the mean PW values and their fluctuations over the years were studied and visualised in the form of maps. The results are congruent with the fact that Poland lies on the border of influence of both continental and oceanic climates. Our results are also consistent with other climate research concerning this region.

In this paper, we examine the use of multi-lingual sentence embeddings to transfer predictive models for functional segmentation of adjudicatory decisions across jurisdictions, legal systems (common and civil law), languages, and domains (i.e. contexts). Mechanisms for utilizing linguistic resources outside of their original context have significant potential benefits in AI & Law because differences between legal systems, languages, or traditions often block wider adoption of research outcomes. We analyze the use of Language-Agnostic Sentence Representations in sequence labeling models using Gated Recurrent Units (GRUs) that are transferable across languages. To investigate transfer between different contexts we developed an annotation scheme for functional segmentation of adjudicatory decisions. We found that models generalize beyond the contexts on which they were trained (e.g., a model trained on administrative decisions from the US can be applied to criminal law decisions from Italy). Further, we found that training the models on multiple contexts increases robustness and improves overall performance when evaluating on previously unseen contexts. There is still controversy whether the female gender is associated with worse outcomes after the percutaneous coronary intervention within the left main (LM PCI). This study aimed to examine gender-based differences in real-life LM PCI patients and present a gender-personalized LM PCI approach. Consecutively, 613 patients underwent LM PCI in our department from January 2015 to June 2019. Five hundred and thirty-three patients, with at least a one-year follow-up, were included in the study. There were 130 (24.4%) women and 403 (75.6%) men. Compared with men, women were older (70.0 ± 9.4 vs. 67.7 ± 9.2, p = 0.006) and had higher diabetes, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease rates. Left ventricle ejection fraction was higher in women (53.5 ± 9.4 vs. 49.5 ± 11.2, p = 0.001). Euroscore II and SYNTAX scores did not differ between the genders. However, we observed a trend towards more frequent use of complex PCI techniques in women (26.2% vs. 19.4%, p = 0.098). The overall periprocedural complication rates (10.0% vs. 7.7%, p = 0.406) and the periprocedural myocardial infarction rates did not differ. Contrast-induced nephropathy was more frequent in women (6.9% vs. 3.0%, p = 0.044). Long-term all-cause mortality did not differ (20% vs. 22.5%, p = 0.069). Both genders presented similar rates of periprocedural complications, and no significant differences in long-term all-cause mortality were revealed. Our results suggest that the female gender in LM PCI is not a predictor of adverse outcomes. Further studies are required to determine the optimal revascularization strategy in women.

Interactions between gut microbes and the immune system influence autoimmune disorders like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Recently, Enterococcus gallinarum, a gram-positive commensal gut bacterium, was implicated as a candidate pathobiont in SLE. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the influence of E. gallinarum exposure on clinical parameters of SLE. Since circulating IgG antibodies to whole bacteria have been established as a surrogate marker for bacterial exposure, anti-E. gallinarum IgG antibodies were measured in banked serum samples from SLE patients and healthy controls in the Oklahoma Cohort for Rheumatic Diseases. The associations between anti-E. gallinarum antibody titers and clinical indicators of lupus were studied. Antibodies to human RNA were studied in a subset of patients. Our results show that sera from both patients and healthy controls had IgG and IgA antibodies reactive with E. gallinarum. The antibody titers between the two groups were not different. However, SLE patients with Ribosomal P autoantibodies had higher anti-E. gallinarum IgG titers compared to healthy controls. In addition to anti-Ribosomal P, higher anti-E. gallinarum titers were also significantly associated with the presence of anti-dsDNA and anti-Sm autoantibodies. In the subset of patients with anti-Ribosomal P and anti-dsDNA, the anti-E. gallinarum titers correlated significantly with antibodies to human RNA. Our data show that both healthy individuals and SLE patients were sero-reactive to E. gallinarum. In SLE patients, the immune response to E. gallinarum was associated with antibody response to a specific subset of lupus autoantigens. These findings provide additional evidence that E. gallinarum may be a pathobiont for SLE in susceptible individuals.

Background: Many operators are discouraged from performing left main (LM) percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) in the absence of right coronary artery (RCA) support due to the increased procedure risk. Aims: We aimed at assessing the impact of absent functional RCA on prognostic implications in patients undergoing unprotected LM PCI. Methods: 613 patients underwent LM PCI in our department between 2015 and 2019. Consecutive 385 patients with unprotected LM and at least 1-year follow-up were included in the study. The study population comprised 272 patients with unprotected left main coronary artery disease (ULMCAD) with dominant RCA, without any significant lesions (Group 1), and 113 ULMCAD patients and without RCA support (Group 2). Results: In Group 2, 32.7% patients had a significant RCA stenosis, 48.7% had chronic total occlusion (CTO) of RCA, and 18.6% had recessive RCA. Patients in Group 2 were older and had higher prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). SYNTAX Score (median [IQR] 26.0 [20.0–33.0] vs 19.0 [13.0–25.5]; P < 0.001) was higher and left ventricular ejection fraction was lower (median [IQR] 50.0 [40.0–60.0]% vs 55.0 [45.0–60.0]%; P = 0.01) in this group. All periprocedural complications did not differ among the groups. Long-term all-cause mortality at a median follow-up of 1149 days did not differ significantly (23% vs 20%; P = 0.37). The long-term mortality in CTO-RCA group was also not significantly different. Conclusions: Patients with ULMCAD who have undergone LM PCI in the absence of RCA support, compared with those with ULMCAD and RCA support, differed neither in the prevalence of periprocedural complications nor in long-term all-cause mortality.

Among numerous publications about the SARS-CoV-2, many articles present research from the geographic point of view. The cartographic research method used in this area of science can be successfully applied to analyze the spatiotemporal characteristics of the pandemic using limited data and can be useful for a quick and preliminary assessment of the spread of infections. In this paper, research on the spatial differentiation of the structure and homogeneity of the system in which SARS-CoV-2 occurs, as well as spatial concentration of people infected was undertaken. The phenomena were investigated in a period of two infection waves in Germany: in spring and autumn 2020. We applied the potential model, entropy, centrographic method, and Lorenz curve in spatial analysis. The potentials model made it possible to distinguish core regions with a high level of the growth of new infections, along with areas of their impact, and regions with a low level of generation of new infections. The entropy showed the spatial distribution of differentiation of the studied system and the change of these characteristics between spring and autumn. The concentration method allowed for spatial and numerical demonstration of the concentration of infected population in a given area. We wanted to show that it is possible to draw meaningful conclusions about the pandemic characteristics using only basic data about infections, along with proper cartographic methods. The results can be used to designate the zones of the greatest threats, and thus, the areas where the most intense actions should be taken.

Background:Significant achievements in the treatment of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) have provided effective therapeutic options for most patients. However, the true impact of the changed landscape of CTEPH therapies on patients’ management and outcomes is poorly known. We aimed to characterize the incidence, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of CTEPH patients in the modern era of CTEPH therapies.Methods:We analyzed the data of CTEPH adults enrolled in the prospective multicenter registry.Results:We enrolled 516 patients aged 63.8 ± 15.4 years. The incidence rate of CTEPH was 3.96 per million adults per year. The group was burdened with several comorbidities. New oral anticoagulants ( n = 301; 58.3%) were preferred over vitamin K antagonists ( n = 159; 30.8%). Pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) was performed in 120 (23.3%) patients and balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) in 258 (50%) patients. PEA was pretreated with targeted pharmacotherapy in 19 (15.8%) patients, and BPA in 124 (48.1%) patients. Persistent CTEPH was present in 46% of PEA patients and in 65% of patients after completion of BPA. Persistent CTEPH after PEA was treated with targeted pharmacotherapy in 72% and with BPA in 27.7% of patients. At a mean time period of 14.3 ± 5.8 months, 26 patients had died. The use of PEA or BPA was associated with better survival than the use of solely medical treatment.Conclusions:The modern population of CTEPH patients comprises mostly elderly people significantly burdened with comorbid conditions. This calls for treatment decisions that are tailored individually for every patient. Long-term insulin treatment can slow the growth process and decrease physical fitness level in children. In diabetic children, these two developments should be constantly monitored. The aim of the present study was to examine differences in somatic and physical fitness characteristics between soccer-training boys with type 1 diabetes and healthy boys of the same age (reference values based on Polish population norms for somatic and motor parameters). The participants were 94 boys (8–17 years), diagnosed with diabetes, who participated in soccer training on a regular basis and received routine medical care. The study involved (a) anthropometric and body composition measurements, (b) general motor ability assessments, and (c) comparison of those characteristics with the healthy Polish population. The diabetic boys were found to have lower levels of almost all somatic traits and motor abilities as compared with the healthy boys (p ≤ 0.05). Handgrip strength was a variable with the smallest difference between the two groups. The observed differences indicate the necessity to design an appropriate control and assessment system based on simple medical and fitness field tests for diabetic children and adolescents. It will allow optimizing advanced training as well as minimize health risks before, during, or after exercise.

There is an increasing need for norms to be embedded in technology as the widespread deployment of big data analysis appli- cations increases. However, existing methodologies do not provide au- tomated policy enforcement mechanisms especially for policies derived from legislation and contractual agreements. Consequently, data access is hindered and collaborations derailed due to fear data misuse and high non-compliance fees. This research aims to automate normative con- trols in healthcare, such as data sharing agreements, and ultimately, enforce these policies for compliant data usage and access which encour- ages collaboration and facilitates research outcomes while maintaining accountability. This paper outlines the PhD research questions, current approaches and preliminary results.

IntroductionAlthough breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is infrequent, with less than 1000 noted cases worldwide, patients consenting for breast implant surgery should be aware of its risk. We describe the first Polish multicenter case-series data on BIA-ALCL patients and present diagnostic and treatment recommendation for breast surgeons.Material and methodsIn cooperation with the Polish Society of Surgical Oncology and Polish Lymphoma Research Group, we collected BIA-ALCL cases in Poland.ResultsWe retrospectively reviewed clinical data of seven BIA-ALCL patients, diagnosed between July 2013 and November 2019. The median time from implant placement to the first BIA-ALCL symptoms was 65 months (range: 33–96 months). All the patients were exposed to textured implants at presentation. Capsulectomy with implant removal was performed in all the patients with immediate reimplantation in 2 cases. In a median follow-up of 19 months (range 5-81 months), there was no recurrence and all the patients stayed alive. Between 2013 and 2019, the incidence of BIA-ALCL in Polish female population age 30 and above ranged from 0 to 0.021/100 000/year.ConclusionsBIA-ALCL is scarce in the Polish population. In a short-term follow-up, patients’ prognosis remains excellent. Due to the withdrawal of roughly textured implants from the market and the exclusion of likely the most potent etiologic factor, it might be expected that the incidence of BIA-ALCL will become even rarer.

Introduction Left main coronary artery (LM) disease is a life-threatening condition, so the invasive treatment is crucial for the survival of the patients. There is still controversy regarding whether female sex is associated with worse outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of LM. Purpose Our aim was to examine gender-based differences in patients after LM PCI. Methods Consecutive 459 patients (mean age: 68.4±9.4 years) in whom PCI of LM was performed (between January 2015 and June 2018) were included in the study. The clinical and angiographic data of these patients including short and long-term outcomes has been analyzed. Results The whole group consisted of 112 (24.4%) women and 347 (75.6%) men. Compared with men, women were older (69.9±8.9 vs 67.9±9.5; p=0.04), had higher prevalence rates of diabetes (43.8% vs 33.4%; p=0.048) and hypertension (92% vs 79.1%; p Conclusion In our real-life cohort of patients, complex LM procedures and comorbidities were more frequent in women. There was no significant difference in short-term results between two genders, although in our real-life study we observed higher long-term all-cause mortality in men. Our results suggest that female gender in LM PCI is not a predictor of adverse outcomes. Further studies are required to determine the optimal revascularization modality in women. Atrial septal defect is the most common congenital heart lesion in adults. Although atrial septal defect closure is recommended in those with right heart enlargement or paradoxical embolism, data informing such indications in adults are quite limited. This population has many unique characteristics and needs. In recent years, significant progress has been made with regard to diagnostic modalities that facilitate the diagnostic workup of these patients. However, the decision‑making process, especially in selected adult patients population (advanced age, various concomitant diseases, poor LV function [both systolic and diastolic], pulmonary hypertension, concomitant arrhythmias or multiple defects, or deficient rims) is still not easy. Available data are predominantly focused on imaging endpoints and short‑term morbidity and mortality rather than long‑‑term. The evidence base for outcomes with or without defect closure comes from various studies with different observation periods. Moreover, the clinical experience in diagnosing and treating that subgroup of patients is inhomogeneous between individual physicians (cardiologists, imaging specialists, operators) and between small and large experience centers. In the view of the above, the joint group of experts from the Association of Cardiovascular Interventions and the Grown‑Up Congenital Heart Disease Section of the Polish Cardiac Society developed the following consensus opinion in order to standardize the principles of diagnosis, indications for treatment, methods of performing procedures, and tenets of postoperative care in Poland.

Background Cardiac implantable electronic device-related infections (CDI) are of increasing importance and involve substantial healthcare resources. This study aimed to evaluate potential CDI risk factors and the utility of the novel PADIT and PACE DRAP scores to predict CDI.Methods and Results:The study group included 1,000 consecutive patients undergoing implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) or cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) surgery. Patients' and procedural characteristics were collected. CDI occurrence was assessed during 1-year follow-up. Moreover, if periprocedural significant pocket hematoma (SPH) occurred, the maximal volume was calculated based on ultrasonographic measurements and ABC/2 formula. The overall incidence of CDI was 1.8%. In the multivariable regression analysis independent CDI risk factors were: age >75 years (odds ratio [OR]: 5.93; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.77-19.84), system upgrade procedure (OR: 6.46; CI: 1.94-21.44), procedure duration >1 h (OR: 13.96; CI: 4.40-44.25), presence of SPH (OR: 4.95; CI: 1.62-15.13) and reintervention within 1 month (OR: 16.29; CI: 3.14-84.50). The PACE DRAP score had higher discrimination of CDI incidence (area under curve [AUC] 0.72) as compared with the PADIT score (AUC 0.63). Conclusions We identified 5 independent risk factors of CDI development. Our study also showed that the PACE DRAP score was better able to identify patients at high risk of CDI than the PADIT score.

Context Higher prevalence of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in women with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) is linked to exogenous insulin, especially when diabetes is diagnosed before puberty. Objective The study evaluates the impact of prepubertal onset of T1DM and insulin therapy on PCOS diagnosis and phenotypic characteristics in women with T1DM. Design, Setting, and Patients We studied 83 women with T1DM (age 26 ± 5 years, BMI 24 ± 3 kg/m2) 36 with premenarchal (PM) onset of T1DM [17 with PCOS diagnosed (PCOS+PM) and 19 without PCOS (noPCOS+PM)] and 47 women with postmenarchal onset of T1DM [24 with PCOS (PCOS-noPM) and 23 without PCOS (noPCOS-noPM)]. Outcome Measurements Clinical examination, assessment of serum sex hormones, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and ultrasonographic evaluation of the ovaries were performed in all women. Results Applying Rotterdam criteria, 49% of women with T1DM were diagnosed with PCOS. There were no differences in hormonal profile and ovarian parameters between PCOS+PM and PCOS-noPM. Women with T1DM+PM had higher insulin dose/24 h and U/kg bw/24 h than T1DM-noPM (P-values = 0.014 and 0.001, respectively). Both PCOS+PM and noPCOS+PM groups had higher insulin dose U/kg bw/24 h in comparison to PCOS-noPM (P-values = 0.004 and = 0.006, respectively). In multivariable logistic regression analysis, age of menarche [odds ratio (OR): 0.672; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.465-0.971] and HbA1c (OR: 0.569; 95% CI: 0.383-0.846) were associated with the diagnosis of PCOS. Conclusions There were no differences in the prevalence of PCOS between T1DM+PM and T1DM-noPM; however, earlier menarche might have an influence on PCOS diagnosis in women with T1DM.

Knowledge of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) antenna phase center variations plays a key role in precise positioning. Proper modeling is achieved by accessing antenna phase center corrections, which are determined in the calibration process. For most receiver antenna types, the International GNSS Service provides such corrections for two GPS and GLONASS carrier signals. In the case of Galileo, access to phase center corrections is difficult, only antennas calibrated in the anechoic chambers have available corrections for Galileo frequencies. Hence, in many of the studies, GPS-dedicated corrections are used for these Galileo frequencies. Differential analysis was conducted in this study to evaluate the impact of such change. In total, 25 stations belonging to the EUREF Permanent Network and equipped with individual calibrated antennas were the subject of this research. The results for both the absolute and relative positioning methods are clear: using GPS L2 corrections for Galileo E5a frequency causes a bias in the estimated height of almost 8 mm. For the horizontal component, a significant difference can be noticed for only one type of antenna.

Objectives. We sought to assess the technical and clinical feasibility of continuous aspiration catheter-directed mechanical thrombectomy (CDT) in patients with high- or intermediate-high-risk pulmonary embolism (PE). Methods and Results. Fourteen patients (eight women and six men; age range: 29–71 years) with high- or intermediate-high-risk PE and contraindications to or ineffective systemic thrombolysis were prospectively enrolled between October 2018 and February 2020. The Indigo Mechanical Thrombectomy System (Penumbra, Inc., Alameda, California) was used as CDT device. Low-dose local thrombolysis (alteplase, 3–12 mg) was additionally applied in three patients. Technical and procedural success was achieved in 14 patients (100%). Complete or nearly complete clearance of pulmonary arteries was achieved in nine patients (64.3%), whereas partial clearance was achieved in five (35.7%). A significant improvement in the pre- and postprocedural patients’ clinical status was observed in the following fields (median; interquartile range): heart rate (110; 100–120/min vs. 85; 80–90/min; p < 0.0001 ), systolic blood pressure (106; 90–127 mmHg vs. 123; 110–133 mmHg; p = 0.049 ), arterial oxygen saturation (88.5; 84.2–93% vs. 95.0; 93.8–95%, p = 0.0051 ), pulmonary artery systolic pressure (55; 44–66 mmHg vs. 42; 34–53 mmHg; p = 0.0015 ), Miller index score (21.5; 20–23 vs. 9.5; 8–13; p < 0.0001 ) and right ventricular/left ventricular ratio (1.3; 1.3–1.5 vs. 1.0; 0.9–1.0; p < 0.0001 ). No major periprocedural bleeding was detected. Conclusions. CDT is a feasible and promising technique for management of high- or intermediate-high-risk PE to decrease thrombus burden, reduce right heart strain, and improve hemodynamic and clinical status. Some patients may benefit from simultaneous local low-dose thrombolytic therapy. Nevertheless, its criteria and role in CTD-managed patients require further elucidation.

The aim of the study was to investigate factors related to the occurrence of nighttime hypoglycemia after a football tournament in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus. The multicenter study (GoalDiab study) included 189 children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus, from 11 diabetes care centers in Poland. Hypoglycemia was defined according to the International Hypoglycemia Study Group Statement. We analyzed the data of 95 participants with completed protocols with regards to nighttime hypoglycemia (82% male), aged 11.6 (9.8–14.2) years, diabetes duration 5.0 (2.0–8.0) years. AIM To evaluate the association between skin advanced glycation end products and insulin resistance in Type 1 diabetes. METHODS The study group consisted of 476 people with Type 1 diabetes (247 men) with a median (interquartile range) age of 42 (33-53) years, disease duration of 24 (19-32) years and HbA1c concentration of 63 (55-74) mmol/mol [7.9 (7.2-8.9)%]. Insulin resistance was assessed according to estimated glucose disposal rate. Advanced glycation product accumulation in the skin was measured by autofluorescence using an AGE Reader. The group was divided into three subgroups based on estimated glucose disposal rate tertiles ( 9.5 mg/kg/min, respectively). The higher the estimated glucose disposal rate, the lower the insulin resistance. BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to assess and compare peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), preperimetric glaucoma (PPG), and healthy controls with the use of Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD-OCT). MATERIAL AND METHODS Thirty patients with AD, 30 patients with POAG, 30 patients with PPG, and 30 healthy controls were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Only 1 randomly selected eye of each patient was analyzed. Every subject underwent a thorough ophthalmological examination and OCT of the optic disc. The peripapillary RNFL thickness in each of the 6 sectors and globally was analyzed. RESULTS The RNFL was thinnest in patients with POAG. The mean RNFL thickness value was 60.97±12.97 µm and it was significantly lower than in healthy controls (106.30±8.95 µm), patients with PPG (93.20±12.04 µm), and AD patients (95.73±13.52 µm). Mean RNFL thickness in patients with AD was significantly lower when compared to healthy controls, and was higher compared to eyes with POAG, while there were no significant differences compared to patients with PPG. CONCLUSIONS Neuronal damage in the central nervous system (CNS) also affects to retinal axons. A major problem is to distinguish the cause for a moderate decrease in the RNFL thickness. This is particularly true for patients with glaucoma who have not been diagnosed with changes in the visual field. It is not possible to distinguish the cause of a mild decrease in the RNFL thickness based on the SD-OCT. This may result in misdiagnosis of glaucoma, unnecessary use of anti-glaucoma eye drops, and a delayed diagnosis of AD.

In patients with diabetes, functional changes in microcirculation and subclinical vascular pathology precede clinical manifestation of microangiopathic complications. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between established vascular risk factors and density, maturity, and reactivity of dermal blood vessels in adults with type 1 diabetes (DM1). We included 148 DM1 patients (87 men) with a median (IQR) age of 40.5 (30.5–49) years and a median diabetes duration of 21 (17–29.5) years. The control group consisted of 13 healthy volunteers (6 men) with a median (IQR) age of 36 (31–43). Accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) was assessed using the AGE-Reader device. In the immunohistochemical (IHC) analyses, anti-CD133, anti-CD34, anti-CD31, and anti-vWF autoantibodies were used. Microvessel density (MVD) in the skin was calculated using the “hot spots technique”. Microvascular function was examined by single-point laser-Doppler flowmetry (LDF). Median MVD, calculated for both papillary and reticular dermis, for CD31 antigen expression was 38 (19–56) per 1 mm2. The median CD34+ blood vessel density was 121 (100–155) per 1 mm2, CD133+ was 79 (63–92) per 1 mm2, and vWF+ was 50 (40–69) per 1 mm2. The average CD34/CD31 index was 2.78, the vWF/CD31 ratio was 1.32 and the CD133/CD31 ratio was 1.75. The CD34/CD31 index was positively associated with serum triglyceride concentration (Beta: 0.26, p = 0.012) and negatively associated with serum HDL cholesterol concentration (Beta: −0.22, p = 0.027), both independently from age, sex, diabetes duration, BMI, HbA1c value, presence of hypertension, and eGFR. We found a negative correlation between MVD assessed by CD31 and skin AF (r = −0.21, p = 0.016). In LDF, the area under the blood flow/time curve (AUC) correlated positively with CD31+ MVD (r = 0.21, p = 0.011) and negatively with CD34+ MVD (r = −0.20, p = 0.017). The MVD did not differ between participants with diabetes and healthy controls, and it did not differ according to the presence of retinopathy among the participants with diabetes. Atherogenic dyslipidemia is associated with increased formation of new blood vessels, characterized by high expression of CD34 and low reactivity in LDF. Conversely, chronic hyperglycemia and excessive formation of AGEs may result in decreased vascularity.

Background Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) may be induced by atypical antipsychotic drugs (AAPDs) such as aripiprazole, olanzapine, risperidone and quetiapine, either as a single treatment or in combination with other drugs. A case of NMS following the administration of lamotrigine, aripiprazole and quetiapine in a patient with bipolar disorder, and with renal failure caused by toxic lithium levels has not been reported. Case presentation A 51-year-old female patient with a 27-year history of bipolar disorder, being treated with lithium, fluoxetine, olanzapine, gabapentine, perazine and biperiden, was admitted to the hospital due to depressed mood and delusions. A urinary tract infection was diagnosed and antibiotic therapy was initiated. After 5 days of treatment her physical state deteriorated and she developed a fever of 38.4 °C. Her laboratory results revealed a toxic level of lithium (2.34 mmol/l). Acute renal failure was diagnosed and the lithium was withdrawn. After stabilization of her condition, and despite her antipsychotic treatment, further intensification of delusions and depressed mood were observed. All drugs being taken by the patient were withdrawn and lamotrigine and aripiprazole were initiated. Due to the insufficient effectiveness of aripiprazole treatment and because of problems with sleep, quetiapine was added, however further treatment with this drug combination and an increase of quetiapine to 400 mg/d eventually caused NMS. Amantadine, lorazepam and bromocriptine were therefore initiated and the patient’s condition improved. Conclusion This case report indicates that concurrent use of multiple antipsychotic drugs in combination with mood stabilizers in patients with organic disorders confers an increased risk of NMS development.

Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is the third most common potentially life‑threatening cardiovascular disease. A new approach of pulmonary embolism response teams (PERTs) has been introduced to provide rapid multidisciplinary assessment and treatment of patients with PE. However, detailed data on institutional experience and clinical outcomes from such teams are missing. Aims: The aim of this study was to report our experience with the management of PE guided by the PERT-POZ within the first year of operation. Methods: We performed a prospective study of PERT-POZ activations at a university care center between October 2018 and October 2019. Patient characteristics, therapies, and clinical outcomes were evaluated. Results: There were 86 unique PERT-POZ activations, and PE was confirmed in 80 patients including: 9 patients (11.25%) classified as low‑risk PE, 19 (23.75%) as intermediate‑low risk, 38 (47.5%) as intermediate‑high, and 14 (17.5%) as high‑risk. Sixty patients (75%) received anticoagulation only, 28 (35%) direct oral anticoagulant, 7 (8.75%) vitamin K antagonist, 23 (28.75%) low-molecular-weight heparin, and 2 (2.50%) unfractionated heparin. Ten patients (12.5%) were treated with catheter‑directed thrombectomy, 6 (7.5%) received systemic thrombolysis, 2 (2.5%) underwent surgical embolectomy, 2 (2.5%) were on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support, and 2 (2.5%) underwent pharmacomechanical venous thrombectomy. There were 7 (8.75%) in‑hospital deaths, and 2 (2.5%) deaths during a 3‑month follow‑up. Bleeding complications were rare: only 3 patients (3.75%) had major bleeding events, but none after administration of systemic thrombolysis. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that after the creation of PERT-POZ with a precise activation protocol, patients with intermediate and high‑risk PE received most optimal treatment strategies.

The fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) and Klotho system play a very important role in the regulation of the human body metabolism. On the one hand, they promote longevity, and on the other hand they promote insulin resistance. Nowadays, accelerated aging in diabetes as the main consequence of chronic complications of the disease is postulated. Signalling pathways induced by insulin, insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), and their homologues play an important role in controlling the aging process. Because FGF23/Klotho system affects glucose metabolism and gene expression of antioxidant enzymes, changes in its concentration may be a marker of chronic complications of diabetes or a treatment option. Despite huge improvements in the treatment of diabetes, its chronic complications remain an important clinical problem. An interesting issue is the relationship between the concentration of FGF23/Klotho and management of the disease, duration, insulin resistance, and development of complications in type 1 diabetes.

The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between sudomotor function and microvascular perfusion in patients with type 1 diabetes (DM1).We evaluated 415 patients (206 women), with DM1, median age of 41 (IQR: 33-53) years, disease duration of 25 (IQR: 20-32) years. We assessed metabolic control of diabetes and the presence of peripheral and cardiac autonomic neuropathy. Sudomotor function was assessed using Sudoscan device by electrochemical skin conductance (ESC). Microvascular function was measured by laser-Doppler flowmetry with basal perfusion, the peak flow after occlusion (PORHpeak) and THmax which is the percentage change between basal perfusion and the peak flow during thermal hyperemia (TH). The accumulation of advanced glycation end products in the skin was assessed by skin autofluorescence (AF) measurement using AGE Reader. We subdivided patients based on the presence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) and according to normal value of ESC.Patients with abnormal ESC had higher skin AF [2.5 (2.1-2.9) vs 2.1 (1.9-2.5) AU, p 0.001], lower eGFR [83 (72-96) vs 98 (86-108) ml/min/1.73 m2, p 0.001], higher basal perfusion [25 (12-81) vs 14 (7-43) PU, p 0.001], lower THmax [664 (137-1461) vs 1115 (346-1933) %, p = 0.002], higher PORHpeak [104 (59-167) vs 70 (48-135) PU, p 0.001] as compared to subjects with normal ESC results. We found negative correlation between THmax and TG level (Rs = -0.14, p 0.005), AF (Rs = -0.19, p = 0.001), vibration perception threshold - VPT (Rs = -0.24, p 0.001) and positive correlation with HDL level (Rs = 0.14, p = 0.005), Feet ESC (Rs = 0.21, p 0.001) and Hands ESC (Rs = 0.14, p = 0.004). We found positive correlation between PORHpeak and TG level (Rs = 0.14, p = 0.003), skin AF (Rs = 0.29, p 0.001), VPT (0.27, p 0.001) and negative correlation with eGFR (Rs = -0.2, p 0.001), HDL (Rs = -0.12, p = 0.01), Feet ESC (Rs = -0.27, p 0.001) and Hand ESC (Rs = -0.16, p = 0.002).Impaired microvascular reactivity is associated with sudomotor dysfunction in patients with type 1 diabetes.

Background: Bioresorbable vascular scaffolds (BVS) have emerged as a new treatment option in cardiovascular medicine. Nonetheless, there is still limited data on the use of these novel devices in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of BVS implantation in patients with ACS. Methods: The present report is a prospective, two-center registry that involved 165 consecutive patients hospitalized with the diagnosis of ACS and treated with the Absorb BVS (Abbot Vascular, Santa Clara, USA). During 1-year, all patients were monitored for the following endpoints: death, myocardial infarction (MI), scaffold thrombosis (ST), target lesion revascularization (TLR), target vessel revascularization (TVR) and target vessel failure (TVF), defined as cardiac death, target vessel MI, and TVR. Results: A total of 165 patients underwent 179 BVS implantations. 94 patients were diagnosed with unstable angina (UA; 57.6%), 45 with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI; 27.3%) and 26 with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI; 15.7%). Procedural success was achieved in all patients with thrombolysis in myocardial infarction flow 3. During a follow-up of 14.1 ± 8.5 months (median 12.4 months, IQR 8.7 [8.4 to 12.1] months) death occurred in 4 (2.4%) patients, including 2 (1.3%) cardiac deaths. There was only 1 case of subacute ST (0.66%), without late ST. The incidence of MI, TLR, TVR and TVF were: 2.65%, 2.65%, 7.95%, 9.3%, respectively. Conclusions: The present results suggest that BVS implantation in ACS patients is feasible and safe in highly experienced centers. One-year clinical results are encouraging with a low rate of stent thrombosis.

Aim. The aim of the study was to evaluate the rela­tionship between smoking and insulin resistance in patients with type 1 diabetes (DM1). Material and methods. The study group consisted of 81 patients with DM1 (51 men, 30 women) from the Poznan Prospective Study (PoProStu), aged 34 ± 6 years, and with diabetes duration 10 ± 1.5 years. Patients were divided into two groups depending on the smoking status: smokers and non-smokers. Insulin resistance was assessed on the basis of indirect param­eters such as: estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR), anthropometric data and liver function. Results. Smokers (n = 36) in comparison with non-smokers (n = 45) had: higher weight (80.4 ± 14.4 vs. 72.9 ± 15 kg, p = 0.02), larger waist circumference (89.6 ± 10.5 vs. 83.1 ± 10.9 cm, p = 0.003), higher waist-to-hip ratio (0.9 ± 0.08 vs. 0.86 ± 0.09, p = 0.006), higher level of gamma-glutamyl transferase [23 (15–36) vs. 15 (11–21) U/l, p = 0.003] and lower eGDR (7.11 ± 2.47 vs. 8.82 ± 1.79 mg/kg/min, p = 0.001). A significant relationship, adjusted for age, duration of diabetes, triglycerids (TG) and high density lipoproteins (HDL) cholesterol level between smoking and eGDR < 7.5 mg/kg/min was revealed [odds ratio OR 4.39 (95% confidence interval CI 1.52–12.66); p = 0.005]. Conclusions. The results of this study confirm the healthy dimension of not smoking among people with type 1 diabetes. Smoking in patients with type 1 dia­betes, treated from the initial diagnosis with intensive insulin therapy, is associated with insulin resistance. (Clin Diabetol 2018; 7, 2: 122–127)

Purpose Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a disorder of insulin deficiency but with a wide range of hormones simultaneously disturbed. The study was performed to explore relation of free triiodothyronine (FT3) with metabolic control and occurrence of microangiopathic complications. Methods A total of 266 adult T1DM participants [56% men; 32 (interquartile range, IQR: 25–39) years and disease duration 13 (IQR: 8–19) years] in euthyroid state with negative history for hypothyroidism were included to the study. Participants were screened for thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (FT4) and FT3. Moreover, microangiopathic complications (retinopathy, diabetic kidney disease, peripheral and autonomic neuropathy), markers of metabolic control such as glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were evaluated. Results A total of 114 (42.9%) people had diagnosed at least one microangiopathic complication.
