The protocol predefined aim of this study is to assess sustained effects of the OptiTrain trial on several health outcomes, 5 years after the baseline assessment. The OptiTrain study was a prospective, randomised controlled trial with 240 patients with breast cancer undergoing adjuvant chemotherapy that compared the effects of 16 weeks of two exercise programs, RT-HIIT and AT-HIIT, with usual care (UC). After a 5-year follow-up, eligible participants were evaluated for the primary outcome of cancer-related fatigue (CRF) and secondary outcomes including quality of life, symptoms, muscle strength, cardiorespiratory fitness, body mass, physical activity, and sedentary behavior. Statistical analysis was conducted using linear mixed models adjusted for baseline values. Tumour profile and menopausal status were additionally adjusted for CRF. Mean differences (MD), 95% confidence intervals (CIs), and standardized effect sizes (ES) were reported. At the 5-year follow-up, there were no statistically significant differences in total CRF between the intervention groups and the UC group. RT-HIIT reported significantly reduced pain sensitivity at the gluteus MD = 79.00 (95% CI 10.17, 147.83, ES = 0.55) compared to UC. Clinically meaningful differences for an increase in cognitive CRF and cardiorespiratory fitness were observed for the AT-HIIT versus UC group, and for lower limb strength for the RT-HIIT versus UC group, albeit without statistical significance. Engaging in targeted exercise during adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer provides short-term benefits in reducing fatigue and maintaining physical function. However, our 5-year follow-up indicates that these effects are limited in the long term. Background In KEYNOTE-355 (NCT02819518), the addition of pembrolizumab to chemotherapy led to statistically significant improvements in progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with advanced triple-negative breast cancer with tumor programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) combined positive score of at least 10. We report patient-reported outcomes from KEYNOTE-355. Methods Patients were randomly assigned 2:1 to pembrolizumab 200 mg or placebo every 3 weeks for up to 35 cycles plus investigator's choice chemotherapy (nab-paclitaxel, paclitaxel, or gemcitabine plus carboplatin). The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire–Core 30 (QLQ-C30), Breast Cancer–Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire, and EuroQol 5-Dimension questionnaire visual analog scale were prespecified. Patient-reported outcomes were analyzed for patients who received at least 1 dose of study treatment and completed at least 1 patient-reported outcome assessment. Changes in patient-reported outcome scores from baseline were assessed at week 15 (latest time point at which completion and compliance rates were at least 60% and at least 80%, respectively). Time to deterioration in patient-reported outcomes was defined as time to first onset of at least a 10-point worsening in score from baseline. Results Patient-reported outcome analyses included 317 patients with tumor PD-L1 combined positive score of at least 10 (pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy: n = 217; placebo plus chemotherapy: n = 100). There were no between-group differences in change from baseline to week 15 in QLQ-C30 global health status/quality of life (QOL; least-squares mean difference = −1.81, 95% confidence interval [CI] = −6.92 to 3.30), emotional functioning (least-squares mean difference = −1.43, 95% CI = −7.03 to 4.16), physical functioning (least-squares mean difference = −1.05, 95% CI = −6.59 to 4.50), or EuroQol 5-Dimension questionnaire visual analog scale (least-squares mean difference = 0.18, 95% CI = −5.04 to 5.39) and no between-group difference in time to deterioration in QLQ-C30 global health status/QOL, emotional functioning, or physical functioning. Conclusions Together with the efficacy and safety findings, patient-reported outcome results from KEYNOTE-355 support pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy as a standard of care for patients with advanced triple-negative breast cancer with tumor PD-L1 expression (combined positive score ≥10). Purpose: Resistance training may offer several unique advantages within breast cancer (BC) survivorship care; however, safety concerns have limited the application of high‐intensity compound movements necessary to elicit optimal changes in body composition, strength, and quality of life in this population. The EXERT‐BC trial assesses the safety and feasibility of an evidence‐based, dose‐escalated resistance training regimen among BC survivors, with the goal of improving physical and metabolic function, mobility, muscle mass, and body composition. Methods: Participants included women with breast cancer underwent a 3‐month thrice weekly exercise regimen involving dose escalation of high‐intensity compound exercises. Coprimary outcomes included safety and adherence. Pre‐ and post‐regimen assessment included body composition testing, functional mobility and balance, total load (weight × repetitions × sets) across compound exercises, and patient reported quality of life. Pairwise comparison was performed via the paired t test. Results: Fourty participants completed a 3‐month exercise regimen, with a median age of 57 years (range, 27–74 years) and 73% having stage 0–2 BC. BC therapies concurrent with exercise included anti‐estrogen therapy (80%), radiotherapy (30%), and non‐hormonal systemic therapy (15%). No adverse events were observed aside from a single case of self‐limited knee pain. Session attendance exceeded a prespecified threshold of 75%, and 98% patients reported ongoing compliance to an exercise regimen following regimen completion. Significant reductions in percent body fat (p < 0.001) and increases in percent muscle mass (p = 0.011) were observed. Significant increases in resting metabolic rate (p = 0.023), bilateral grip strength (p < 0.001), functional movement screen (p < 0.001), bilateral Y‐Balance testing (p < 0.001), and Godin questionnaire scores (p < 0.001) were observed. Conclusion: A 3‐month dose‐escalated resistance training regimen comprising high‐intensity compound movements appears safe with a high degree of adherence among breast cancer survivors, resulting in demonstrable improvements in body composition, metabolic parameters, strength increases, and patient‐reported quality of life. The subject in this study was a female professional painter who underwent bilateral mastectomy because of bilateral breast cancer, experienced postoperative wound scarring, and developed alopecia due to the side effects of chemotherapy, which caused the patient to lose body image confidence and the motivation to engage in artistic creativity. The patient had shed tears early in the intervention and complained of difficulties with body image adjustment due to her altered appearance. Mastectomy patients must not only undergo drug treatment but also adjust psychologically to body image changes to decrease negative emotions. This was the author's motivation for involvement in this case. The nursing period was from 23 September to 30 December 2021. Physical, mental, spiritual, social, and family data were collected using observations and interviews. These data were evaluated and the main problems were determined to be disturbed body image related to altered body perception post- surgery, alopecia caused by chemotherapy, impaired physical mobility due to upper limb mobility limitations post-surgery, and nausea due to chemotherapy. The patient was encouraged to paint again and to use artistic creativity to comfort herself. Moreover, she was guided to express her innermost thoughts to face the impact of her changes in appearance. In addition, a care consultation channel was provided to facilitate experience sharing with other breast cancer patients, thus assisting the patient to cope with the mental impact of her treatments and face subsequent cancer treatments with a more positive attitude. Art therapy embraces a diverse variety of methods, including drawing and music. Art therapy is a valuable tool that facilitates both physical and mental healing. Based on this experience, nurses should include patients' close relatives when performing art therapy to facilitate shared care to overcome difficulties. Background The Swedish Breast Reconstruction Outcome Study (SweBRO) initiative is a nationwide study with the primary aim of assessing long-term outcomes after mastectomy with and without breast reconstruction (BR). The current part (SweBRO 2) is designed to evaluate health-related quality of life (HRQoL), with the hypothesis that BR has a positive impact on patient-reported HRQoL in the long-term. Methods Women who underwent mastectomy in Sweden in 2000, 2005, or 2010 and were alive at the time of the survey were identified through the National Breast Cancer Registry. Eligible participants received formal invitation letters to take part in a survey evaluating their HRQoL at 5 , 10, or 15 years post-mastectomy. The EORTC QLQ-C30, EORTC QLQ-BR23, and EQ-5D-3L questionnaires were employed. Results Of 2904 respondents (50% of 5853 invited), 895 (31%) had received BR. Among them, 516 (58%) were reconstructed with implants and 281 (31%) with autologous tissue. Women with BR scored significantly better in the EORCT QLQ-C30 physical functioning domain (mean 90 versus 81 points), fatigue (mean 21 versus 25), and dyspnoea (mean 16 versus 22) compared to non-reconstructed women. The EORTC QLQ-BR23 revealed that women with BR experienced favourable sexual functioning compared with non-reconstructed women (mean 26 versus 14). The EQ-5D-3L visual analogue scale score was similar between groups. Conclusion The current study underscores the benefits of BR for long-term well-being, for example, in terms of physical and sexual functioning. Objective: To examine the effects of three programs aimed at maintaining moderate‐to‐vigorous physical activity (MVPA) on breast cancer survivors' quality of life, physical functioning, fatigue and mood. Methods: 161 survivors participated in a 12‐month randomized controlled study and were assigned to one of three groups: Reach Plus, Reach Plus Message, or Reach Plus Phone. All participants received the same intervention for the first 3 months (weekly calls from peer coach) for MVPA adoption. In Months 4–9, Reach Plus monitored MVPA and received feedback reports. Reach Plus Message monitored MVPA and received weekly text/email messages and feedback reports. Reach Plus Phone participants monitored MVPA and received monthly calls from coaches and feedback reports. Intervention delivery ended at 9 months. Assessments were obtained at baseline, 3, 6, 9, and 12‐months. Analyses used a series of longitudinal mixed effects models with subject‐specific intercepts. Results: All groups improved significantly across time on psychosocial measures. At 9 months, Reach Plus Message and Reach Plus Phone reported better physical functioning compared to Reach Plus (b = 8.27, 95% CI: [2.27, 14.27]; b = 4.89, 95% CI: [0.01, 10.53]) respectively). At 12 months, Reach Plus Message reported better physical functioning than Reach Plus (b = 4.52, 95% CI: [0.01, 9.75]. Participants who met national PA guidelines reported significantly lower fatigue and higher physical functioning (at 9 and 12 months), and improved mood (at 12 months). Conclusions: MVPA maintenance via weekly messages or monthly coach calls improved physical functioning. This article discusses a study conducted in Iraq that evaluated the quality of life of women with breast cancer. The study found that most women experienced difficulties in their emotional, social, and role functioning. The article highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary team in improving the quality of life for breast cancer patients. Other studies have also shown that breast cancer negatively affects physical and cognitive performance, as well as social and role functioning. The study suggests that a multidisciplinary approach could help improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients, particularly in the areas most affected by the disease. Purpose: The assumption that patient–provider communication may mediate patients' sense of control over cancer to affect health outcomes has limited evidence. This study examines whether patient-perceived cancer care communication quality (PPCQ) mediates stress appraisal and coping behavior, affecting physical functioning across different racial groups. Methods: Two hundred and twenty Chinese American and 216 non-Hispanic White (NHW) women (ages 28–80) with stage 0–III breast cancer, 1–5 years post-diagnosis, and without recurrence, enrolled and completed a cross-sectional telephone survey. Physical functioning was measured by the NIH-PROMIS short form. Validated measures of PPCQ, patients' evaluation of their socioeconomic well-being, stress appraisal (perceived severity and control), use of coping strategies, treatment-related symptoms, and comorbidities were also assessed. Path analyses were used to examine the mediation for each racial group. Results: Regardless of race, treatment-related symptoms, comorbidities, and socioeconomic well-being were all directly related to physical functioning (p < 0.05). The impact of PPCQ on physical functioning was mediated by perceived control in the Chinese American group (p < 0.05), but not in the NHW group. Perceived severity and coping were not mediators of physical functioning in either group. Conclusions: The mediational pathway from PPCQ to perceived control to physical functioning in Chinese American survivors may be partially explained by their lower socioeconomic well-being and culturally valued conformity to physicians as a medical authority. These sociocultural dynamics reinforce the importance of cancer care communication. Background: As breast cancer incidence rises among younger women, there is a knowledge gap regarding the emotional, physical, and social effects of mastectomy, specifically in a crisis-affected country such as Syria. This study aimed to explore these effects on young women with breast cancer in Syria, taking into consideration the cultural significance of a woman's breast as part of her feminine identity. Methods: A qualitative design, using semi-structured in-depth interviews with 10 young women with breast cancer who underwent mastectomy, was conducted between June to December 2022. Results: Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data, and five main themes were identified: (1) psychological and emotional well-being (altered self-esteem and femininity, impact on sexual life and relationships, psychological distress associated with mastectomy, mirror trauma and the need for psychological care); (2) body image and breast reconstruction (the dilemma over reconstruction decision, body image and clothing and lack of access to prosthetic information/services); (3) social and interpersonal factors (lack of marriage choices and society's view and stigma); (4) coping mechanisms with mastectomy effects (family support; faith in god almighty; comparing their situation to others and use of prosthetics) and (5) physical health and functioning (physical effects on mobility and function). Conclusion: Mastectomy has significant physical, emotional, and social consequences on young women with breast cancer, particularly in crisis-affected Syria where access to breast reconstruction is limited. It is crucial for healthcare professionals to understand these impacts, to raise awareness, encourage early detection, and promote less aggressive treatments to improve women's quality of life. Exercise is effective for improving the physical and psychological health of breast cancer patients. However, there is still controversy around its role on the immune system. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis is aimed to evaluate the effect of chronic exercise on the number and activity of the immune cells that can contribute to anti-tumor immune responses, such as natural killers (NK) cells, CD + 4, or CD + 8. The main hypothesis of this study was that exercise could improve the immune system or, at least, there will not be a reduction in the number or activity of immune cells because of exercise. The search was conducted in the PubMed and Web of Science databases. Out of 244 studies reviewed, 10 studies met the inclusion criteria. The studies included in the meta-analyses showed mixed results and no significant (p > 0.05) positive or negative effects of exercise interventions in women with breast cancer. Therefore, the current evidence indicates that exercise does not significantly improve or reduce the immune system; thus, the prescription of exercise must not be discouraged due to the effects on the number and activity of immune system cells, but should be recommended due to the well-known benefits in quality of life, physical function or fatigue, and the absence of negative effects on the immune system. Background Moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) interventions improve patient-reported outcomes (PROs) of physical and psychological health among breast cancer survivors (BCS); however, the effects of specific intervention components on PROs are unknown. Purpose To use the Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) to examine overall effects of the Fit2Thrive MVPA promotion intervention on PROs in BCS and explore whether there are intervention component-specific effects on PROs. Methods Physically inactive BCS [ n = 269; M age = 52.5 (SD = 9.9)] received a core intervention (Fitbit + Fit2Thrive smartphone app) and were randomly assigned to one of 32 conditions in a full factorial experiment of five components ("on" vs. "off"): (i) support calls, (ii) deluxe app, (iii) text messages, (iv) online gym, and (v) buddy. Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) questionnaires assessed anxiety, depression, fatigue, physical functioning, sleep disturbance and sleep-related impairment at baseline, post-intervention (12-week), and 24-week follow-up. Main effects for all components at each time point were examined using an intention to treat mixed-effects model. Results All PROMIS measures except sleep disturbance significantly improved (p 's <.008 for all) from baseline to 12-weeks. Effects were maintained at 24-weeks. The "on" level of each component did not result in significantly greater improvements on any PROMIS measure compared to the "off" level. Conclusions Participation in Fit2Thrive was associated with improved PROs in BCS, but improvements did not differ for "on" vs. "off" levels for any component tested. The low-resource Fit2Thrive core intervention is a potential strategy to improve PROs among BCS. Purposes: The study intended to (1) assess changes of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) between early treatment-related time points and 10 years post-treatment in a cohort of breast cancer (BC) patients who received radiotherapy (RT), (2) to evaluate differences in HRQoL between long-term BC survivors and unaffected women from the same geographical region and (3) to identify determinants of long-term HRQoL in the survivor cohort. Methods: 292 BC patients were recruited prior to RT after breast-conserving surgery between 1998 and 2001 in Germany and prospectively followed up for a median of 11.4 years (range 10.3–12.8 years). HRQoL was assessed using EORTC QLQ-C30 at pre-RT (baseline), during RT, 6 weeks after RT, and at the 10-year follow-up. Changes in mean HRQoL scores over time were assessed using linear-mixed models. HRQoL in long-term survivors and controls was compared using Wilcoxon rank-sum test, stratified by age groups. Multivariable linear regression models were used to identify determinants for HRQoL in long-term BC survivors. Results: Compared to baseline level (mean summary score of 64.9), global health status/quality of life (GHS/QoL) declined during RT (62.4) and improved 6 weeks after RT (69.9) before decreasing to baseline level at the 10-year follow-up (66.7). Most functional domains deteriorated or remained stable at 10 years post-diagnosis compared to post-RT scores, except for role functioning which improved, while dyspnea and diarrhea significantly deteriorated between those two time points. There were no significant differences in long-term GHS/QoL between BC survivors 10 years post-RT and controls for all age groups (p > 0.05). However, deficits in specific HRQoL domains such as emotional burden, sleep problems or fatigue were found to more strongly affect survivors, in particular those younger than 65 years, compared to controls. In the determinant analysis, being overweight was associated with lower GHS/QoL and physical functioning, while living with others was found to be associated with better physical functioning, and decreased dyspnea and pain levels. Certain comorbidities such as depression had a strong association with multiple HRQoL domains, including lower GHS/QoL and functioning as well as a higher level of fatigue, pain, sleep/intestinal problems, and financial difficulties. Side effects such as lymphedema/pain and fibrosis were associated with worse physical and social functioning, respectively. Conclusion: The long-term GHS/QoL remained comparable when compared with the control population while restrictions in certain functional and symptoms domains in long-term BC survivors persisted over 10 years, in particular among younger survivors. Targeted screening to identify cancer survivors at risk for psychosocial/other impairment accounting also for comorbidities and treatment side effects may be warranted in long-term aftercare to address unmet health needs. Background: Few studies have examined accelerometer‐measured physical activity and incident breast cancer (BC). Thus, this study examined associations between accelerometer‐measured vector magnitude counts per 15 seconds (VM/15s) and average daily minutes of light physical activity (LPA), moderate‐to‐vigorous PA (MVPA), and total PA (TPA) and BC risk among women in the Women's Health Accelerometry Collaboration (WHAC). Methods: The WHAC comprised 21,089 postmenopausal women (15,375 from the Women's Health Study [WHS]; 5714 from the Women's Health Initiative Objective Physical Activity and Cardiovascular Health Study [OPACH]). Women wore an ActiGraph GT3X+ on the hip for ≥4 days and were followed for 7.4 average years to identify physician‐adjudicated in situ (n = 94) or invasive (n = 546) BCs. Multivariable stratified Cox regression estimated hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for tertiles of physical activity measures in association with incident BC overall and by cohort. Effect measure modification was examined by age, race/ethnicity, and body mass index (BMI). Results: In covariate‐adjusted models, the highest (vs. lowest) tertiles of VM/15s, TPA, LPA, and MVPA were associated with BC HRs of 0.80 (95% CI, 0.64–0.99), 0.84 (95% CI, 0.69–1.02), 0.89 (95% CI, 0.73–1.08), and 0.81 (95% CI, 0.64–1.01), respectively. Further adjustment for BMI or physical function attenuated these associations. Associations were more pronounced among OPACH than WHS women for VM/15s, MVPA, and TPA; younger than older women for MVPA; and women with BMI ≥30 than <30 kg/m2 for LPA. Conclusion: Greater levels of accelerometer‐assessed PA were associated with lower BC risk. Associations varied by age and obesity and were not independent of BMI or physical function. In a study of over 20,000 US postmenopausal women, higher levels of accelerometer‐measured physical activity were associated with lower risk of breast cancer. The number of breast cancer (BCa) survivors has been steadily increasing due to advances in anti-cancer treatments, though these individuals suffer from various cancer- and treatment-related long-term side effects. The present study aimed at investigating the effects of a home-based tele-exercise training intervention on physical- and mental health-associated parameters in BCa survivors. A total of 13 female BCa survivors (age: 58.31 ± 3.13 years, BMI: 25.68 ± 0.62 kg/m2, waist circumference: 96.54 ± 1.84 cm) participated in a two-month group tele-exercise program twice per week which included aerobic, resistance and flexibility exercises. The results of the study revealed that the tele-exercise intervention improved participants' body mass index (BMI) (p < 0.001), waist circumference (p < 0.001), cardiorespiratory fitness (6 min walk test) (p < 0.001) and muscle function (sit to stand (p < 0.01), sit ups (p < 0.001) and push-ups (p < 0.001)). Beneficial effects were also observed on perceived anxiety (Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale) (p < 0.001), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms (PCL-C) (p < 0.01), self-reported fatigue (p < 0.001), quality of life (QoL) (p < 0.05) and physical (p < 0.05), cognitive (p < 0.01) and emotional (p < 0.05) functioning (EORTQ-QLQ-C30). Our findings suggest that common cancer- and treatment-related adverse effects on physical performance, mental health and the overall QoL can be ameliorated through tele-exercise training programs in BCa survivors. Background: Breast (BCa) and prostate (PCa) cancer are two of the most common but survivable cancers. One important component of survivorship that is impacted by treatment long term is diminished quality of life (QoL). Supervised exercise improves QoL and subsequent outcomes but is not accessible for all survivors. Additionally, many factors influence QoL including physical activity (PA), cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), physical function, and fatigue. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to increase access to exercise beyond supervised exercise facilities. Home-based exercise may provide a feasible alternative for cancer survivors especially for those living in rural communities. Objectives: The primary aim is to investigate the effects of home-based exercise training (Pre-training vs. Post-training) on QoL in BCa/PCa. A secondary aim is to investigate PA, CRF, physical function, and fatigue and potential moderators (age, cancer-type, intervention duration and type). Home-based exercise trials (randomized crossover or quasi-experimental design) with adults (aged 18 years and over) breast or prostate cancer survivors (not currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment) were eligible for inclusion. Data sources: Electronic databases were searched (inception-December 2022) for studies which included adult BCa or PCa survivors (not currently on chemotherapy/radiation), at least measured QoL, and undergoing unsupervised, home-based exercise training. Appraisal and synthesis methods: Initially, 819 studies were identified, from which 17 studies (20 effects) involving 692 participants were extracted. Effect sizes were calculated as standardized mean differences (SMD). Data were pooled using a 3-level model with restricted maximum likelihood estimation. Pooled SMD was used to assess the magnitude of effect, where <0.2, 0.2, 0.5, and 0.8 was defined as trivial, small, moderate, and large respectively. Results: Home-based exercise resulted in small improvements in QoL (SMD = 0.30, 95% CI 0.01, 0.60, p = 0.042), PA (SMD = 0.49, 95% CI 0.26, 0.75, p<0.001) and CRF (SMD = 0.45, 95% CI -0.01, 0.91, p = 0.056). Physical function (SMD = 0.00, 95% CI -0.21, 0.21, p = 1.000) and fatigue (SMD = -0.61, 95%CI -1.53, 0.32, p = 0.198) did not change. Conclusions: Home-based exercise results in small improves QoL in BCa/PCa survivors, independent of cancer type, intervention duration and type, or age. Home-based exercise also improves PA and CRF enhancing survivorship. Background: Older cancer survivors are at risk for cognitive decline. Physical activity can improve cognition, and better cognitive function may facilitate greater physical activity.Purpose: We examined the potential bidirectional relationship between cognitive function and physical activity in older breast cancer survivors and controls.Methods: The sample included women with newly diagnosed, nonmetastatic breast cancer (n = 395) and women without cancer (n = 374) ages 60-98. Participants were recruited as part of a larger multisite study, assessed prior to systemic therapy, and followed yearly for 36 months. Attention, processing speed, and executive function was measured using six neuropsychological tests, self-reported cognitive function using the Perceived Cognitive Impairments subscale of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Cognitive Function , and physical activity using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form. Separate random intercepts cross-lagged panel models were used to examine the between- and within-person effects for survivors and controls, controlling for age, education, and study site.Results: Survivors reported significantly less physical activity than controls at baseline (1,284.92 vs. 2,085.98 MET min/week, p < .05). When survivors reported higher activity, they simultaneously had better objective cognition at 12 months (β = 0.24, p = .04) and reported better perceived cognition at 12 and 24 months (β = 0.25, p = .03), but this relationship was not seen in controls. Cognition did not predict subsequent physical activity or vice versa in either group.Conclusions: Cognition and physical activity are cross-sectionally associated in survivors, but the expected prospective relationships were not found. Simple Summary: Axillary web syndrome (AWS) is a common post-surgical sequela of breast cancer (BC) treatment. It determines pain and it limits the upper limb range of motion (ROM), reducing the quality of life of BC survivors. To date, various treatments and combinations of rehabilitative approaches have been proposed, but standardized guidelines are still lacking. The aim of our retrospective study was to assess the safety and tolerability of our specific AWS rehabilitative treatment protocol, and to determine its efficacy in reducing pain and improving upper limb ROM. We found that 60-min rehabilitative sessions composed of manual lymphatic drainage, stretching and mobility exercises, and soft tissue mobilization, performed three times/week until clinical resolution, represents a safe and well-tolerated rehabilitation protocol. Moreover, 98% of the patients reached complete shoulder ROM in flexion and abduction after the treatment, and there was a significant reduction in pain. Axillary web syndrome (AWS) is a highly prevalent surgical complication affecting BC survivors. It presents as a subcutaneous cording that limits the upper limb range of motion (ROM) and causes pain. Its etiology is still debated, and its treatment is not well defined. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the safety, tolerability and efficacy of our specific AWS rehabilitative treatment protocol. We conducted an observational retrospective study on a cohort of 92 AWS patients referred to the oncological outpatient service of a university hospital. We collected data from medical records before (T0) and after (T1) the treatment. The studied protocol was composed of 60-min sessions, carried out 3 times/week by specialized physiotherapists, until the clinical resolution of AWS. We found that a mean of 8.74 ± 2.12 rehabilitative sessions were needed, and only one patient stopped early. At T1, shoulder ROM was complete in both abduction and flexion in 98% of patients; AWS was no longer detectable in 64% of them, and pain significantly decreased compared to T0. Introduction: The aim of the study was to assess the quality of life in women diagnosed with breast cancer. Material and methods: The study included a group of 208 women. 105 of them were diagnosed with breast cancer -- they constituted the research group. The remaining 103 participants, representing the control group, were healthy, i.e. they were not diagnosed with breast cancer. To carry out the study a diagnostic survey method was used comprising the author's questionnaire and 2 standardized questionnaires: EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-BR23, which were used with the permission of the EORTC. Results: The conducted analysis showed that people from the control group had a higher quality of life in terms of physical functioning than people diagnosed with breast cancer. The overall quality of life in social roles was higher in the control group than in the group of women diagnosed with breast cancer. Conclusions: The quality of life in women with breast cancer is reduced compared to healthy women. Breast cancer significantly affects the functioning of women in the physical, social, cognitive, and emotional spheres. The general health condition of women with diagnosed breast cancer is lower than that of women who do not suffer from breast cancer. Women with diagnosed breast cancer exhibited lower quality of life, related to body image and sexual functioning, they were less satisfied with sex, and they had lower prospects for the future, compared to healthy woman. The role of oncoplastic breast conserving therapy (OPBCT) on physical function, morbidity and patient satisfaction has yet to be defined. Additionally, technique selection should be individualised and incorporate patient preference. The study aim was to investigate differences between "standard" (sBCT) and oncoplastic breast conservation (OPBCT) in patient-reported outcomes (PROs) when patients have been assessed in a standardised manner and technique selection has been reached through shared decision-making (SDM). This is a cross-sectional study of 215 women treated at a tertiary referral centre. Standardised surgical assessment included breast and lesion volumetry, definition of resection ratio, patient-related risk factors and patient preference. Postoperative morbidity and patient satisfaction were assessed by validated PROs tools (Diseases of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand-DASH and Breast-Q). Patient experience was assessed by semi-structured interviews. There was no difference of the median values between OPBCT and sBCT in postoperative morbidity of the upper extremity (DASH 3.3 vs 5, p = 0.656) or the function of the chest wall (Breast-Q 82 vs 82, p = 0.758). Postoperative satisfaction with breasts did not differ either (Breast-Q 65 vs 61, p = 0.702). On the individual level, women that opted for OPBCT after SDM had improved satisfaction when compared to baseline (+3 vs −1, p = 0.001). Shared decision-making changed patient attitude in 69.8% of patients, leading most often to de-escalation from mastectomy. The best strategy for drain removal after mastectomy and axillary surgery in breast cancer patients has remained controversial. We conducted a multicenter, three-arm randomized clinical trial to determine the optimal strategy. A total of 187 eligible breast cancer patients who underwent mastectomy and axillary surgery were randomized into 10 mL (n = 62), 20 mL (n = 63), and 30 mL (n = 63) groups for drain removal on the first day when the output decreased to a corresponding volume in 24 h. The drain duration, total drain duration, incidence of seroma, quality of life, outpatient visit times, healthcare costs, and postoperative complications were evaluated. The median axillary drain durations and total drain durations were all significantly different between three groups (both P < 0.001). The incidences of seroma were 31.1%, 38.3%, and 52.1%, and the difference between the 30 mL and 10 mL groups was significant (RR = 2.41). The 20 mL group reported significantly better quality of life (QoL) in terms of physical functioning (PF) at the 2-week (30 mL versus 20 mL, HR:-14.18) and 3-week (20 mL versus 10 mL, HR: 11.65) follow-up and role functioning (RF) at the 2-week follow-up (20 mL versus 10 mL, HR: 18.15). No between-group differences were found in G-QoL, outpatient visits, costs, or complications. Introduction: The prevalence of treatment-related complications remains high throughout the course of cancer treatment resulting a decline in quality of life. Physiotherapy can have a positive influence on various domains of Quality of Life (QoL), potentially alleviating the severity of perceived complications. Aim: To evaluate the physiotherapy interventions used for managing treatment-related complications among breast cancer patients. Materials and Methods: Databases including Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Science Direct, Cochrane Library, and Scopus from year 2000 to 2022 was searched with Mesh terms for trials with breast cancer patients>18 years of age participating in physiotherapy program. The primary outcome measure of interest was a significant improvement in treatment-related complications from pre- to post intervention. Change in quality of life was evaluated as secondary outcome measure. Cochrane risk of bias tool was used to assess the risk of bias and quality of included studies. Results: A total of 20 randomised controlled trials with 2019 patients incorporated various physiotherapy interventions to manage and alleviate treatment-related complications. For physical functioning (p=0.04) and the pain-sleep-fatigue cluster (p=0.006 to 0.044) different types of exercises were included. Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT) combined with other electrotherapy modalities was embraced to manage lymphedema (p<0.05). For shoulder and arm dysfunction (p<0.05) passive stretching, mobilisation and strengthening exercises were incorporated. Furthermore, regular practice of exercise and physiotherapy exhibited positive impacts on overall health-related quality of life (p=0.0001 to 0.01) along with improvements in anxiety, depression, self-esteem and emotional function. Conclusion: Physiotherapy interventions are exceedingly effective in managing and providing relief from breast cancer treatment-related complications. This systematic review aims to explore the impact of age on physical functioning post-treatment for early-stage, locally advanced, or locally recurrent breast cancer, as measured by patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), identify PROMs used and variations in physical functioning terms/labels. MEDLINE, EmBase, PsycINFO, CINAHL and AMED were searched, along with relevant key journals and reference lists. Risk of bias (quality) assessment was conducted using a Critical Appraisal Skills Programme checklist. Data was synthesised through tables and narrative. 28,207 titles were extracted from electronic databases, resulting in 44 studies with age sub-groups, and 120 without age sub-groups. Of those with findings on the impact of age, there was variability in the way findings were reported and 21 % found that age did not have a significant impact. However, 66 % of the studies found that with older age, physical functioning declined post-treatment. Comorbidities were associated with physical functioning declines. However, findings from sub-groups (breast cancer stage, treatment type and time post-treatment) lacked concordance. Twenty-eight types of PROM were used: the EORTC QLQ-C30 was most common (50.6 %), followed by the SF-36 (32.3 %). There were 145 terms/labels for physical functioning: 'physical functioning/function' was used most often (82.3 %). Findings point towards an older age and comorbidities being associated with more physical functioning declines. However, it was not possible to determine if stage, treatment type and time since treatment had any influence. Women with multiple comorbidities have competing health needs that may delay screening for early detection of breast cancer. Our objective was to determine associations between physical functioning and frailty with risk of locally-advanced breast cancer (BC). We conducted a retrospective cohort study of women 65 years and older diagnosed with first primary stage I-III BC using the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results Medicare Health Outcome Survey Data Resource. Physical health-related quality of life was measured using Veterans RAND 12 Item Health Survey scales within two years before diagnosis; frailty was determined by calculating deficit-accumulation frailty index (DAFI) scores. Multivariable modified Poisson regression models were used to estimate rate ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for risk of locally-advanced (stage III) versus early-stage (I-II) BC. Among 2411 women with a median age of 75 years at BC diagnosis, 2189 (91%) were diagnosed with incident stage I-II BC and 222 (9%) were diagnosed at stage III. Compared to women with early-stage disease, women with locally-advanced BC had lower physical component scores (37.8 vs. 41.4) and more classified as pre-frail or frail (55% vs. 50%). In multivariable models, frailty was not associated with increased risk of locally-advanced disease. However, worse physical function subscale scores (lowest vs. upper quartile; RR = 1.56, 95% CI 1.04–2.34) were associated with risk of locally-advanced BC. This report evaluates whether health related quality of life (HRQoL) and patient-reported arm morbidity one year after axillary surgery are affected by the omission of axillary lymph node dissection (ALND). The ongoing international non-inferiority SENOMAC trial randomizes clinically node-negative breast cancer patients (T1-T3) with 1–2 sentinel lymph node (SLN) macrometastases to completion ALND or no further axillary surgery. For this analysis, the first 1181 patients enrolled in Sweden and Denmark between March 2015, and June 2019, were eligible. Data extraction from the trial database was on November 2020. This report covers the secondary outcomes of the SENOMAC trial: HRQoL and patient-reported arm morbidity. The EORTC QLQ-C30, EORTC QLQ-BR23 and Lymph-ICF questionnaires were completed in the early postoperative phase and at one-year follow-up. Adjusted one-year mean scores and mean differences between the groups are presented corrected for multiple testing. Overall, 976 questionnaires (501 in the SLN biopsy only group and 475 in the completion ALND group) were analysed, corresponding to a response rate of 82.6%. No significant group differences in overall HRQoL were identified. Participants receiving SLN biopsy only, reported significantly lower symptom scores on the EORTC subscales of pain, arm symptoms and breast symptoms. The Lymph-ICF domain scores of physical function, mental function and mobility activities were significantly in favour of the SLN biopsy only group. One year after surgery, arm morbidity is significantly worse affected by ALND than by SLN biopsy only. The results underline the importance of ongoing attempts to safely de-escalate axillary surgery. This pilot examines whether resistance training (RT) can induce changes in kynurenine (KYN) metabolism, which may contribute to improved physical function in breast cancer survivors (BCSs). Thirty-six BCSs (63.2 ± 1.1 years) underwent assessments of physical function and visual analog scale (100 cm) fatigue and quality of life before and after 12 weeks of RT (N = 22) or non-exercise control (CBCT©: Cognitively Based Compassion Training, N = 10). Blood was collected before and after interventions for assessment of KYN, kynurenic acid (KYNA), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ co-activator 1α (PGC-1α). At baseline, the women were moderately fatigued (mean score: 46 cm) and at risk of poor functional mobility. A group*time interaction was observed for all measures of strength with improvements (~25–35%) following RT (p's < 0.01), but not CBCT. Time effects were observed for fatigue (−36%) and quality of life (5%) (p's < 0.01), where both groups improved in a similar manner. A group*time interaction was observed for KYN (p = 0.02) and PGC-1α (p < 0.05), with KYN decreasing and PGC-1α increasing following RT and the opposite following CBCT. These changes resulted in KYN/KYNA decreasing 34% post-RT, but increasing 21% following CBCT. These data support RT as a therapeutic intervention to counteract the long-term side effect of fatigue and physical dysfunction in BCSs. Objective: To investigate the effect of trastuzumab combined with elemene injection on the expression of BNP and cTnⅠ in serum of breast cancer. Methods: 78 breast cancer patients treated in our hospital from February 2018 to June 2021 were divided into observation group (n=39) and control group (n=39) according to different treatment drugs. The observation group was treated with trastuzumab combined with elemene injection, and the control group was treated with trastuzumab injection only. The therapeutic effect, preoperative and postoperative T-lymphocyte subsets, quality of life, toxic reactions, serum BNP and cTnⅠ levels were compared between the two groups. Results: (1) The total effective rate of observation group was higher than that of control group (P<0.05). (2) The total incidence of toxicity in observation group was 15.38 %, significantly lower than 35.90 % in control group (P<0.05). (3) After treatment, CD3+ and CD4+ levels in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), while CD8+ levels were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). (4) After treatment, the serum BNP and cTnⅠ levels increased gradually with the prolongation of treatment cycle, and the serum BNP and cTnⅠ levels in control group were increased compared with observation group in the same cycle (P<0.05). (5) After treatment, the scores of physical function, cognitive function and overall health status in observation group were higher than those in control group(P<0.05). Conclusion: The feasibility of trastuzumab combined with elemene injection in the treatment of breast cancer is good, which can significantly improve the treatment efficiency, improve the quality of life and immune function of patients, and reduce the serum BNP and cTnⅠ levels, which is worthy of clinical application. Objectives: Many trials conclude "no clinically meaningful detriment" to health-related quality of life (HRQL) or function between arms, even when notable differential toxicity is observed. Mean change from baseline analyses of function or HRQL can possibly obscure important change in subgroups experiencing symptomatic toxicity. We evaluate the impact of diarrhea, a key treatment arm toxicity, on patient-reported HRQL and functioning in clinical trials submitted to US Food and Drug Administration.Methods: This study used 4 randomized, breast cancer trials (adjuvant to late-line metastatic) as case examples. Diarrhea, physical functioning (PF), and global health status and quality of life (GHS/QoL) from the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-C30 were analyzed at baseline and approximately 3 and 6 months.Results: Generally, patients reporting very much diarrhea at months 3 and 6 had worse PF (9-19 points lower) and GHS/QoL (16-19 points lower) than patients reporting no diarrhea regardless of treatment arm. In the change from baseline analysis, patients reporting very much diarrhea also experienced a greater decrease in PF (6-13 points) and GHS/QoL (6-16 points) versus patients reporting no diarrhea in both arms.Conclusions: In trials with moderate to large differences in symptomatic toxicity by arm, reporting "no meaningful difference in functioning and HRQL between arms" based on mean change from baseline analysis is insufficient and may obscure important impacts on subgroups experiencing symptomatic adverse events. Additional exploratory analyses with simple data visualizations evaluating functioning or HRQL in patient subgroups experiencing expected symptomatic toxicities can further inform the safety and tolerability of an investigational agent. Background: Breast cancer survivors (BCS) face several symptoms and are at higher risk of weight gain following diagnosis. Current literature shows that both exercise and diet play a key role in recovery of BCS. However, there is a gap between current guidelines and the real-world context. The aim of this article is to describe the process behind a free, not-for-profit community-based therapeutic exercise and education programme (TEEP) for BCS in the clinical setting. Methods: The "Onco-Health Club" (OHC) consists of therapeutic exercise (TE) intervention aimed at ameliorating cancer-related fatigue (CRF) and improving QoL and physical function. TE is supplemented with nutritional education, providing information about the Mediterranean diet. To this end, patients are recruited from an oncologist and are referred to a physiotherapist and a nutritionist for baseline assessment. TEEP consists of a 3-month intervention, delivered twice a week in a group format with 1 h of TE and 30 min of nutritional education. BCS then have a final assessment and are advised to continue with a healthy lifestyle. Data about referral, compliance and assessment were collected. Results: From May 2017 to February of 2020, a total of 158 patients were recruited from 8 cohorts and 142 initially started the OHC. From 119 that joined the program, 96 patients were considered to have finished it with good adherence (assistance > 80%). BCS significantly improved their QoL, as well as upper and lower limb's function, and increased their level of physical activity. CRF tended to decrease (p = 0.005). Conclusions: This study obtained data on recruitment, compliance, and possible limitations of these kinds of programmes in a real-world context. Further research is needed in order to optimize patient engagement and compliance, as well as to determine the transferability of these programmes in the clinical setting. To evaluate the health-related quality-of-life (QOL) outcomes in surgical breast cancer survivors who received breast conservation therapy (BCT) compared to mastectomy, we utilized a systematic review to conduct observational studies of QOL in patients with breast cancer following breast conservation therapy from their inception until October 2021. The PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science databases were systematically searched to retrieve the observational studies. The pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were applied as an effect estimate and calculated using Stata 15 software. Nine studies comprising 2301 patients were included. The results showed that no significant differences compared to mastectomy were detected for global health status (P = 0.971 and P = 0.613), physical function (P = 0.099), emotional function (P = 0.096), cognitive function (P = 0.377), social function (P = 0.602), sexual functioning (P = 0.072), and sexual enjoyment (P = 0.142), while role function (P = 0.036), body image (P = 0.000), and future perspective (P = 0.012) showed a significant difference for BCT when compared to mastectomy. When compared to breast reconstruction (BR), the BCT group was inferior at physical function (P = 0.002) and cognitive function (P = 0.040) but superior at body image (P = 0.001). When used the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy (FACT) tool, BCT has better results in physical function (P = 0.000), emotional function (P = 0.000), and social function (P = 0.000) than mastectomy. QOL outcomes after BCT were better than mastectomy in body image, future perspective, and role function. Background: An expanding body of research documents the benefits of physical activity for cancer survivors' physical functioning and quality of life, but few successful models provide community‐based physical activity programs to cancer survivors. This report presents an evaluation of Active Living After Cancer, an evidence‐based physical activity program for breast cancer survivors, adapted for community delivery to minority and medically underserved survivors. Methods: Survivors were recruited from health care and community settings. The program consisted of 12 weekly group sessions providing training in cognitive and behavioral skills for behavior change, brief physical activity, and cancer survivorship‐related content. At the baseline and follow‐up, participants completed assessments of their physical activity, quality of life, and physical functioning (6‐minute walk and 30‐second sit‐to‐stand test). At follow‐up, they also completed questionnaires to measure program content mastery and satisfaction. Results: The outcome analysis included 127 participants. Physical activity and quality of life (mental and physical) improved from the baseline to follow‐up (all P <.01). Physical functioning improved, with increases in sit‐to‐stand repetitions (mean, 12.5 at the baseline vs 14.9 at the follow‐up; P <.01) and 6‐minute walk distances (mean, 428 m at the baseline vs 470 m at the follow‐up; P <.01). Conclusions: The results highlight the effectiveness of an evidence‐based program adapted for community‐based delivery to minority and medically underserved breast cancer survivors. The program could be delivered to improve outcomes in diverse survivor populations. Purpose: Older breast cancer survivors (BCS) may be at greater risk for cognitive dysfunction and other comorbidities; both of which may be associated with physical and emotional well-being. This study will seek to understand these relationships by examining the association between objective and subjective cognitive dysfunction and physical functioning and quality of life (QoL) and moderated by comorbidities in older BCS. Methods: A secondary data analysis was conducted on data from 335 BCS (stages I–IIIA) who were ≥ 60 years of age, received chemotherapy, and were 3–8 years post-diagnosis. BCS completed a one-time questionnaire and neuropsychological tests of learning, delayed recall, attention, working memory, and verbal fluency. Descriptive statistics and separate linear regression analyses testing the relationship of each cognitive assessment on physical functioning and QoL controlling for comorbidities were conducted. Results: BCS were on average 69.79 (SD = 3.34) years old and 5.95 (SD = 1.48) years post-diagnosis. Most were stage II (67.7%) at diagnosis, White (93.4%), had at least some college education (51.6%), and reported on average 3 (SD = 1.81) comorbidities. All 6 physical functioning models were significant (p <.001), with more comorbidities and worse subjective attention identified as significantly related to decreased physical functioning. One model found worse subjective attention was related to poorer QoL (p <.001). Objective cognitive function measures were not significantly related to physical functioning or QoL. Conclusions: A greater number of comorbidities and poorer subjective attention were related to poorer outcomes and should be integrated into research seeking to determine predictors of physical functioning and QoL in breast cancer survivors. Purpose: Breast cancer survivors are at increased risk of adverse outcomes, called late effects, years after the completion of active treatment. Late effects can significantly impair physical functioning. The current study aimed to explore breast cancer survivors' experiences of late effects, their emotional responses to existing or potential late effects and their perceived impact. Methods: A total of 36 women treated for breast cancer in the last 10 years participated in semi-structured telephone interviews. Participant views were sought with respect to knowledge, experience, and perceived longer-term risk. A thematic analysis was conducted. Results: Four themes emerged from the data: (1) late effects awareness, (2) framing and coping, (3) uncertainty and (4) management. There was a range of emotional responses to late effects; however, many participants reported being unaware of their risk of late effects. Participants conceptualised late effects as any long-term effect of treatment regardless of the time of onset. Women reported living with constant uncertainty and feared cancer recurrence. Many were focused on managing long-term treatment side effects, rather than late effects. Conclusion: Many women undergo treatment and remain unaware of associated late effect risks. National guidelines recommend patients be informed about late effects; however, the results of this study suggest a gap between policy and practice. Purpose: To describe the variability during weekly performance on physical function tests during a 12-week individualized exercise program for patients with breast cancer and to test if the expected improvements in physical function surpass the minimally clinically important difference (MCID), after accounting for week-to-week variance. Methods: Twenty-five participants, 19 years and older living with breast cancer within 2 years of their initial diagnosis, were recruited. Some participants were undergoing active treatment, while others completed their treatment. The intervention was an individualized exercise session twice a week, for 1 h each session, for a total of 12 weeks. Main outcomes tested included the 6-min walk test and chair stand test. Results: A significant average improvement was observed in the 6MWT (p <.01) and the chair stand test (p <.001) following the intervention. Individual confidence intervals were wide across all testing measures with only 28% and 8% of participants meeting or surpassing the MCID for the 6MWT and chair stand test, respectively. Conclusion: Despite a significant improvement in physical function during the program, the majority of patients did not reach the MCID, which could be due to large variability resulting from treatment-related side effects or measurement error. This study intends to examine a breast cancer survivor group called the Candy Girls. Candy Girls comprises 26 to 30 women (aged between 40 and 73 years), who are breast cancer survivors in the post-clinical phase. They all have successfully undergone various combinations of treatment such as lumpectomy, mastectomy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy for breast cancer and are on the path to recovery and post-recovery. In 2010, this group came together for a year-long research conducted by the Universiti Malaya's Faculty of Medicine through the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. Realising the benefits of exercise for the well-being of cancer survivors, Candy Girls decided to continue dancing on their own even after the completion of the research study. With the support of breast surgeons at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), this group began a weekly three-hour self-administered exercise session, that is still, to this day, taking place every Saturday. Their activities focus primarily on dance. The group gradually expanded dance genres by incorporating line dance, Latin dances-based Zumba sessions, Malay folk dance forms such as joget and zapin, and Bollywood dance. While the multi-ethnic women are determined to stay healthy and happy through their weekly dance routines, they have made significant impact on women at large by performing dances at Breast Cancer Relays, Awareness Campaigns and Health Conferences. By engaging with this community of survivors, the researchers have not only been able to observe their activities but also to support them through additional yoga and dance trainings. The act of giving back to the community has further strengthened the researchers' relationship with the study subjects and has allowed deeper engagement with the community. This ethnographic research shows that dance as self-rehabilitation, not only enhances physical mobility and emotional well-being, but forges a strong group solidarity among the women as a much-needed support system for survivors. Background: Most cancer patients, under active treatment or not, are sedentary, despite increasing scientific and clinical understanding of the benefits of exercise and physical activity, such as improving quality of life, limiting disease symptoms, decreasing cancer recurrence, and increasing overall survival. Studies have shown that both supervised exercise and unsupervised physical activity programs have low adherence and limited long-term benefits among cancer survivors. Therefore, interventions focused on increasing physical activity levels have clinical and psychological relevance. The present study will examine the feasibility and efficacy of an intervention that combines supervised group exercise with active lifestyle recommendations, analyzing its clinical, psychological, physiological, functional, and immunological effects in breast cancer survivors.Methods: Women aged 35-75 years who have completed chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery for breast cancer will be recruited from the Cancer Institute of the State of Sao Paulo (ICESP) and take part in a 16-week, parallel-group, randomized, and controlled trial. They will receive a booklet with recommendations for achieving a physically active lifestyle by increasing overall daily movement and undertaking at least 150 min/week of structured exercise. Then, they will be randomized into two groups: the supervised group will take part in two canoeing group exercise sessions every week, and the unsupervised group will increase their overall physical activity level by any means, such as active commuting, daily activities, or home-based exercise. Primary outcome includes aerobic capacity. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of an 8-week HIIT intervention on patient-reported outcomes and physical function in breast cancer patients undergoing anthracycline-based chemotherapy. Methods: Thirty breast cancer patients were recruited prior to initiating treatment and randomized into the HIIT group (n = 15) or control (CON) group (n = 15). The HIIT group attended HIIT sessions three days per week for eight weeks. The CON group was asked to maintain their current level of physical activity. Patient-reported outcomes were assessed by the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast Cancer (FACT-B), Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory with 20 questions (MFI-20), and the 15-item Five-Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ-15). Physical function was assessed using the timed up and go (TUG), 30-s sit-to-stand (30STS), Margaria-Kalamen stair climb test, and 6-min walk test (6MWT). Repeated measures ANCOVA and paired t-tests were performed to assess group differences. Results: All patients completed the 8-week study with 82.3% adherence to the intervention among the HIIT group. Post-intervention, significant improvements were found for the Margaria-Kalamen stair climb test (− 3.39%; P = 0.013) and 6MWT (+ 11.6%; P = 0.008) in the HIIT group compared to baseline and CON group. No changes in patient-reported outcomes, TUG, and 30STS were observed following the 8-week study period in both groups (P > 0.05). Conclusions: HIIT may be an effective strategy to improve physical function and possibly maintain QOL in breast cancer patients undergoing the anthracycline-based chemotherapy. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality of life of breast cancer survivors. Methods: This qualitative descriptive study included 18 breast cancer survivors who completed cancer treatment within the last five years in Istanbul, Turkey. A directed content analysis was performed using the quality-of-life domains as guiding themes. Results: The mean age was 51 ± 5.9, and the average months since active treatment were 26.5 ± 9.8 (9–48). Six themes and associated categories are as follows: Physical functioning; Changes in physical activity and weight, new physical symptoms, Role functioning; Work-life, changes in household chores, Emotional functioning; Emotional changes, fear of having the COVID-19 infection, Cognitive Functioning; Risk Perception about the COVID-19 infection, reactions to the COVID-19 pandemic' measures, Social Functioning; Familial relationship changes, social interactions, General Health/Utilization of Healthcare services; Changes in routine follow-ups, changes in diet. Background: Obesity is a chronic, relapsing, and progressive disease; it is associated with poor health‐related quality of life (HRQOL) in survivors of breast cancer. Methods: In this 2 × 2 factorial trial, 351 survivors of breast cancer with overweight or obesity were randomized to 1 of 4 treatment groups for 52 weeks: control, exercise alone, diet alone, or exercise plus diet. HRQOL end points were measured at baseline and at week 52 using the 36‐Item Medical Outcomes Survey‐Short Form (SF‐36). Repeated measures analysis of covariance quantified the estimated treatment difference (ETD). Results: At baseline, participants had a mean (SD) age of 59.4 years (8.7), body mass index of 34.0 kg/m2 (5.9), and 71 participants (20.2%) self‐reported fair or poor general health. After 52 weeks, compared with control, the exercise plus diet improved the physical health summary score (ETD: 5.39; 95% CI, 0.55‐10.22); exercise alone (ETD: –1.91; 95% CI, –6.60 to 2.79) and diet alone (ETD: 3.16; 95% CI, –1.52 to 7.83) did not change the physical health summary score. Compared with control, exercise alone (ETD: –0.27; 95% CI, –6.60 to 2.79), diet alone (ETD: 3.25; 95% CI, –1.41 to 7.91), and the exercise plus diet (ETD: 1.75; 95% CI, –2.90 to 6.39) did not change the mental health summary score. Exercise alone did not impact any HRQOL subscale; diet alone improved the vitality subscale; exercise plus diet improved the physical functioning, role—physical and vitality subscales. Conclusion: In survivors of breast cancer with overweight or obesity, exercise plus diet improved select HRQOL end points at week 52. Objective: To assess the relationship between time-of-day of exercise training and changes in relevant cancer health outcomes among cancer survivors. Methods: Retrospective analysis of data collected from 2016–2019 from a hospital-based exercise oncology program. Descriptive statistics were calculated for demographic, clinical, and exercise timing characteristics (e.g. AM, PM, or mix) among survivors with available data for exercise training time (n = 233). For the total sample and a breast cancer sub-analysis, univariate analysis of covariance, adjusted for age, was carried out by exercise training time, for change in the following outcomes collected during the program's assessment sessions: cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular endurance (human performance variables), physical function, anthropometrics, self-reported fatigue, and quality of life (QoL). Change in body mass index (BMI) and body weight was included in the breast cancer analysis. Results: Overall, 37.3% of survivors habitually engaged in AM exercise (e.g. ≥ 75% AM training), 34.3% in PM exercise, and 28.3% in a mix of AM and PM exercise training throughout the program. Median time in the program was 17 weeks. Significant improvements in most human performance and physical function variables were observed in the total sample regardless of exercise training time-of-day. Among breast cancer survivors, PM but not AM or mixed was associated with improvements in fitness, and lower-body muscular endurance and function. Mixed exercise timing was linked with greater increase in waist circumference (total sample: 3.02cm, 95%CI 1.55, 4.49; breast cancer: 3.57cm 95%CI 0.96, 6.18), body weight (breast cancer: 1.6kg, 95%CI 0.3, 2.8) and BMI (breast cancer: 0.6kg/m2, 95%CI 0.1, 1.0). AM and PM exercise, but not mixed, was associated with improvements in fatigue and QoL. Conclusion: Time-of-day of exercise training may differentially impact changes in human performance and physical function variables. Purpose: Exercise therapy (ET) is shown to improve toxicity and surrogates of survival for patients receiving chemotherapy. Current National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines lack recommendations for concurrent radiation therapy (RT) and ET. The main objective was to determine the impact of concurrent ET + RT with respect to (1) acceptability, feasibility, safety; and (2) to demonstrate how incorporating ET in cancer treatment can enhance patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and physical function-defined as strength or exercise capacity.Methods and Materials: A PICOS/PRISMA selection protocol was used to search PubMed, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Cochrane Review for prospective randomized controlled trials evaluating concurrent ET + RT, including >10 patients and with 1 or more study arms. Acceptability, feasibility, and safety rates were calculated. PROs were assessed with study-specific metrics. Physical function was defined as improvements in strength or range of motion. Statistically significant improvement was defined by P <.05.Results: Twenty-six of 693 screened studies including 1563 patients (831 receiving exercise, 732 controls) with localized breast cancer (67.1% of patients), prostate cancer (27.4%), head and neck cancers (2.8%), and spinal metastases (2.8%) were assessed. Objective 1: Among 3385 patients approached for ET, 1864 (55.1%) accepted the treatment; of those, 1563 patients (83.9%) completed the trials. Objective 2: Statistical improvements were noted in these PROs: quality of life (14 of 15 studies), fatigue (12 of 16 studies), mood/depression (9 of 13), and anxiety (6 of 7). Physical function improved statically in 16 of 16 studies.Conclusions: Combination ET + RT is safe and well-tolerated with improvements in PROs and physical function. Introduction: The most common cancer among women in the world is breast cancer. The diagnosis of breast cancer and its type of treatment have a significant impact on health and well-being and influence quality of Life among breast cancer patients. Objective: To assess the Quality of Life among Breast Cancer Patients undergoing cancer treatment in selected cancer hospital, Bhopal. Methodology: Two hundred subjects were selected (100 in breast cancer group and 100 in healthy control group) through convenient sampling. Study participants were interviewed using standardized EORTC C30 and BR23 quality of life questionnaire. Results: Findings revealed that majority of the breast cancer patients were from 41-50 years age group, married, residing in urban areas, illiterate and housewives. Most of them had stage II cancer and were receiving chemotherapy. Mean score of physical functioning (57.73±23.94), role functioning (68.16±32.31), cognitive functioning (57±1.08), nausea and vomiting (30.17±36.13), pain (38±33.08); dyspnea (28±35.99), insomnia (41±39.60), body image (54.08±28.88), breast symptoms (30.08±24.56), arm symptoms (40.11±29.75) and upset by hair loss (54.33±40.94) indicated average QOL among breast cancer patients. Mean score for global health status (35.42± 21.40), emotional functioning (44±31.84), social functioning (33.83±32.52), fatigue (52.77±29.60), appetite loss (58±39), future perspective (35.67±37.38) and systemic therapy side effects (54.52±21.93) indicated poor QOL. Mean score of financial difficulties (77±32.03), sexual functioning (16.33±25.28) and sexual enjoyment (14±24.7) represented worst QOL among breast cancer patient. Conclusion: Patients having breast cancer had significantly lower quality of life as compared to healthy subjects in the area of global health status, functional scale and symptom scales. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate changes of QoL during the first 5 years of survival among disease-free Chinese breast cancer survivors. Methods: A prospective cohort study enrolled 1462 Chinese women with early-stage breast cancer, and longitudinally visited those patients at four time-points, namely baseline (T0), 18- (T1), 36- (T2), and 60-month (T3) after diagnosis. This study included 992 patients who were disease-free during the first 5 years of survival and who had completed QoL assessments at all four time-points. Results: The score of global health status/QoL improved gradually (T1, T2, T3 > T0; P < 0.001 for overall comparisons). Social functioning score significantly improved when compared to that of T0 (T1, T2, T3 > T0; P < 0.001 for overall comparisons). In contrast, cognitive functioning score decreased (T0 > T1, T2, T3; P < 0.001 for overall comparisons). Scores of physical functioning, role functioning and emotional functioning showed a fluctuated picture, with the highest score achieved at T1. In symptoms profile, most of them scored lowest at T1 (best QoL). Multivariate analysis showed that several characteristics significantly correlated to changes in QoL from T0 to T3. For instance, patients with higher education had better recovery of physical functioning, role functioning, and social functioning. Conclusion: During the first 5 years of survival, patients' global health status/QoL improved over time, social functioning consistently improved, but cognitive functioning steadily deteriorated. Most of functioning domains and symptoms improved at 18-month follow-up, but such improvements were not maintained and even deteriorated at 36- and 60-month post-diagnosis. Background: As a mind-body exercise, Tai Chi (TC) may have a positive impact on physical function and psychological well-being in patients with breast cancer (BC). The aim of this current overview of systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses (MAs) was to identify and summarize the existing evidence regarding the effectiveness of TC in patients with BC.Methods: A computerized search of electronic databases was performed to identify relevant SRs/MAs of TC related to BC from inception to June 2020. The Assessing the Methodological Quality of Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR-2) and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) checklists were used to assess the methodological quality and reporting quality of SRs and MAs, respectively. The Grades of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach was used to assess the evidence quality of outcome measures.Results: Six SRs/MAs in which quantitative synthesis was used to assess various outcomes of TC related to BC were included in this overview. The quality of the SRs/MAs and the evidence quality of the outcome measures were generally unsatisfactory. The limitations of the past SRs/MAs were the lack of a protocol and registration, a list of excluded studies, or inadequately reported computational details of meta-analyses. The critical problems were that the qualitative data synthesis relied on the trials with small sample sizes and of critical low quality.Conclusions: TC is possibly beneficial to BC treatment. Purpose: The Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS) is a validated tool used in patients with varied cancer diagnoses to measure patient symptoms. The present manuscript will review the literature assessing the ability of the ESAS to predict patient-related outcomes in breast cancer patients. Methods: A literature search was conducted of Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases, Ovid MEDLINE, and Embase for English articles that investigated the use of predictive modelling with the ESAS in the breast cancer population. Study type, publication year, sample size, patient demographics, predicted outcomes, and strongest predictive factors/symptoms were summarized for each study. Results: A total of nine articles were included in this review. Five articles used the ESAS in predictive models to determine patient time to death. ESAS was also used to predict emergency department visits, determine symptoms associated with decreased quality of life, and generate a Health Utility Score. Lack of appetite was the most common ESAS symptom, as it was reported in five studies to be associated with decreased survival. In four of the nine articles, an additional survey investigating physical functioning was used in combination with ESAS to strengthen the predictive models. Conclusions: Included studies support the use of ESAS in predictive models, particularly for predicting survival. Using the ESAS as a predictive tool allows for more accurate time to death predictions, potentially improving symptom management and preventing overtreatment of palliative patients near the end of life. Background: Breast cancer is the leading cancer affecting women in Singapore. Its survivors commonly experience decline in physical function and quality of life post-mastectomy, due to their upper limb morbidity and wound issues. Rehabilitation can address the aforementioned issues. When rehabilitation is accessible and easy to adhere, it can optimize recovery. Home-based tele-rehabilitation guided by healthcare professionals and self-managed by patients can potentially optimize the patients' adherence to rehabilitation and recovery. With that in mind, a team of breast cancer specialists (oncologists, nurses, and therapists) in Singapore has developed one of the first tele-rehabilitation systems for local women undergoing a unilateral mastectomy. To our knowledge, no such systems have been evaluated or proven effective as a treatment option among local breast cancer patients with acute disabilities. Methods: This is a pilot quasi-experimental trial that aims to evaluate the feasibility of tele-rehabilitation and tele-drain care compared to usual care. Up to 40 patients (20 per group) will be recruited for this trial. They will be assigned to an intervention group that receives rehabilitation via a tele-rehabilitation system or a control group that receives rehabilitation in person at their clinic. The primary outcome of this trial is rehabilitation participation (i.e., the time spent on rehabilitation). The secondary outcomes are upper extremity functioning, perceived health, and quality of life. Discussion: As part of this pilot trial, patients who opt in for the tele-rehabilitation will be asked to share their experience with and thoughts on the tele-rehabilitation system. With the evidence obtained from the tele-rehabilitation patients of this trial, we will be able to improve the current system for our future trial. Further, our additional data on rehabilitation participation, physical function, and quality of life will help us design a sufficiently powered future main trial. Purpose: To gain more knowledge about the mechanism (i.e., mediators) of resistance exercise (RE)-induced improvements in physical performance (PP), we seek to investigate whether improvements in muscle strength (MS), muscle power (MP), and lean body mass (LBM) and (or) self-reported fatigue (SRF) are mediators of the effect of RE on PP in breast cancer survivor women (BCSW). Methods: The volunteers were randomly divided into two groups: control group (CT; n = 9) and resistance exercise (RE; n = 11). The RE protocol consisted of three sets in each exercise (leg extension, leg curl, 45° leg press, and calf raise), between 8 and 12 repetitions per set, with an estimated load of 80% of one-repetition maximum (1RM), and three times a week on non-consecutive days for 12 weeks. The CT group performed only stretching exercises twice a week. SRF, maximal muscle power (Pmax), MP, LBM, and PP were assessed using the Brief Fatigue Inventory Questionnaire; 1RM test; isoinertial dynamometer; DXA; and walking speed, sit-to-stand (STS), and timed up and go (TUG) test, respectively. Results: Following 12 weeks, the RE group reduced SRF and increased MP, Pmax, LBM, and performance in all tests (walking speed, STS, and TUG) when compared with the CT group. There were significant associations of the changes in LBM, MS, Pmax, and SRF with changes in physical performance tests only in the RE group.
