Reading is an unsurpassed source for the acquisition of new knowledge, however, its incessant decline over the years and its serious repercussions gave rise to the development of this study, where the effect of the application of a pedagogical strategy based on in interactive motivational readings. For this purpose, a quasi-experimental quantitative methodology was used that included two groups of third-year basic education students who were initially and finally evaluated (Pretest-posttest) regarding reading comprehension competence. The results showed that the group of students who applied motivational interactive readings achieved better results than the group of students who used traditional methodologies. This study highlights the need to develop educational interventions aimed at improving reading comprehension because this is the basis for the development not only of academic skills, but also personal and social skills. EDUCATIONAL literature , *AFRICAN history , *BASIC education , *ART education , *AFRICAN literature , *AFRICAN art ,BRAZILIAN history - Abstract
This article, paraphrasing the title of a beautiful novel by Pepetela, The savannah and the stepp?, addresses the literary work of this great Angolan writer, as well as that of two other novelists, also from Africa: Agualuza, from Angola, and Mia Couto, from Mozambique. The work establishes a deep connection between art and education, especially between literature and education, analyzing the contemporary novelistic production of African authors, highlighting those who, in one way or another, were influenced by great Brazilian writers. In this sense, knowledge of this literature contributes to compliance with Law No. 10.639/2003, which establishes the mandatory teaching of African culture and history in Brazilian Basic Education. MASTER'S degree , *DANCE , *NATIVE language , *PERFORMING arts , *BASIC education - Abstract
This text presents an excerpt from a Master's degree research developed in Luanda (Angola), by the Postgraduate Program in Performing Arts at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil), which investigates ethnotheatrological aspects of Angolan cultural manifestations. This is specifically about discussing the relevance and possibilities of understanding certain elements of Angolan rituals as teaching principles to be considered in basic education schools, especially through working with artistic languages that turn their attention to the cultural richness of different mother tongues and corporeities of Angola. The pedagogical practice with ritualistic elements of Angolan cultural manifestations is approached here as a way of expanding opportunities -- through working with artistic languages (dance, theater, music, etc.) that manifest typical ritual performances -- to understand, situate and reupdate the production of local knowledge. BUDGET , *EDUCATIONAL finance , *BASIC education , *PRIVATE education , *FINANCE education - Abstract
The article analyzes the legal debate surrounding the financing of basic education in the National Constituent Assembly of Brazil (1987-1988), focusing on the main dichotomy that guided the discussions, that is, the opposition between public and private education. The article addresses how the main entities were organized into three fronts of action: publicists, privatists, and confessionals, fighting battles over the direction of the public budget. In fact, contrary to popular participation in the initial phase, the alliance between privatists and confessionals imposed, in the final stage, a setback on the publicists through parliamentary maneuvers, which was decisive for the outcome of the constitutional text. GAMES , *VIDEO games , *LEARNING , *SOCIAL sciences education , *BASIC education , *GENERAL education , *TEACHERS - Abstract
This work arises from the need to be able to integrate updated and innovative resources into the teachinglearning process in students in order to achieve meaningful learning, that is, relevant and useful knowledge for students. For this reason, a work is carried out, where the general objective was to design a didactic alternative that allows to improve meaningful learning in the second year of Basic General Education of the Cristo Rey Educational Unit. The study had a mixed approach, of a non-experimental type, descriptive scope, and with a cross-sectional nature. The descriptive method of documentary and probabilistic type was used through the analysis of the contents to process the information. We worked with 55 students who met the selection criteria. The following results were found: the students show a good attitude in the classroom, they see online games as a fun tool that they would like to use in the classroom three times a week and to do homework, especially for Mathematics and Social studies. Despite the fact that teachers also have the necessary resources, training is required so that online games are applied adequately and generate significant learning, that is, that teachers know how to explain activities related to online games and that students know how to use them and how important it is to them. BASIC education , *TEACHERS , *ACADEMIC achievement , *STUDENTS , *PUBLIC education , *STATE universities & colleges , *TEACHER educators - Abstract
This contribution is associated with the research project entitled "Improvement of pedagogical practices in educational institutions in the southern area of Manabí" and the linkage project that deals with "Directed tasks and psycho-pedagogical support to strengthen student learning in the Public Basic Education of Jipijapa", both in the process of execution in the education career of the State University of the South of Manabí. It is therefore that the pedagogical reinforcement is focused on improving teaching-learning as an enriching medium for students, incorporating relevant knowledge through the educational model that will strengthen participatory didactics in students. Within the framework of academic management, knowledge about the institutional and personal factors that students prioritize related to their performance is of great interest in decision-making aimed at the continuous improvement of the educational model, its permanence and its adequate academic performance. The learning experience is a set of activities that lead students to face a complex situation, challenge or problem. With this research work a double objective is intended; on the one hand, highlighting the importance of motivation in learning and, on the other hand, improving school performance. STUDENT engagement , *BASIC education , *EDUCATORS , *ACTIVE learning , *INFORMATION & communication technologies - Abstract
The use of video games as an educational resource has generated great interest in recent years, due to their potential to motivate and engage students in the learning process. As technology becomes an increasingly accessible and ubiquitous tool, educators have begun to explore the potential of video games to support learning and improve student engagement in the classroom. The aim of this article is to analyze the opinions, attitudes and perceptions that students in the "Basic Education" degree program have on the use of video games as an educational resource. The main objective is to analyze the position of future teachers regarding the use of this type of resource as didactic material, whether they are in favor or against its use. For this purpose, a mixed research was designed, in which qualitative aspects were analyzed through an open question and quantitative aspects were analyzed through a questionnaire with Likert scale questions with five values, in order to obtain more information on the topic of study. A sample of fifteen students from the Escola Superior de Educação e Ciências Sociais (ESECS) of the Instituto Politécnico de Portalegre (Portugal) was used. Among the conclusions obtained, it can be affirmed that, for the most part, students are in favor of using video games as educational resources due to their high motivational potential and possibilities. It was also observed that they considered ICT as necessary resources for teaching mathematics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GENDER nonconformity , *GENDER identity , *WOMEN teachers , *TEACHER educators , *BASIC education - Abstract
This work analyzes the discourses on gender socialization among female teachers of basic education in public schools in Tijuana, México. The study is theoretically guided by the gender perspective and a qualitative-interpretive research approach. It is based on information obtained through the technique of focus groups. Research findings indicate a gap between the teachers' speeches about gender categories and their behaviors and/or attitudes toward the gender roles and identities that their students manifest. On one side, there is an acceptance speech towards gender diversity that do not corresponds to what is socially expected about gender roles associated to sex. On the other, the exercise of gender diversity is rejected both among the student population and among the teaching staff. Evidently, there is a need of creating and implementing new strategies in the professional training and development growth programs on gender aim to educators in Baja California. The article addresses the history of the Iranian Plateau and its people, including the Persians and their relations with the ancient Greeks at the beginning of what later became known as Western Civilization. The objective was to highlight that the teaching of ancient history in Brazil needs to be rethought to avoid frequent inaccuracies, generalizations and inconsistencies, among others, in much of the bibliography available on the subject. To achieve this, it was based on more recent archaeological and historical research, which are decisive theoretical contributions to understanding the people of the Iranian Plateau in their diversity and historicity. This is a basic, qualitative, exploratory, explanatory research that used bibliographic and documentary procedures. It was concluded that ancient people must be studied in a contextualized way. The people of the Iranian Plateau need to have their diversity understood and cannot be treated as if they were all the same. Thus, although the Persians are the best known and studied people on the plateau, they were not the only ones, neither the first nor the last in that region. Thus, the article discusses a topic on which there is little research in Brazil and seeks to collaborate with the task of teaching ancient history in the country, in this case about the people of the Iranian Plateau. Therefore, it deals with the role of the Persians in the origins of the West, but seeks not to limit itself to this issue. Finally, the relevance of the study of antiquity in Basic Education is highlighted and some notes are made to contribute to this important task. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

YOUNG adults , *TEACHERS , *BASIC education , *SECONDARY education , *EDUCATIONAL change , *DIVERGENT thinking - Abstract
The justifications presented for the reform of Secondary Education are anchored in half-truths about young people's dissatisfaction with the quality and meaning of this level of basic education for their lives. This article, based on documentation referring to the reform and pertinent literature, analyzes these justifications and demonstrates that their intentions define the responses and conclusions that society must reach. Such justifications are intentionally deprived of specialized scientific analysis on the effective materialization of this last stage of basic education. To consolidate the reformist rhetoric, the silencing of divergent thinking and the support of the media were essential. The reformers did not want to listen to the subjects who experience the school, nor to listen to what young people want from their schools or teachers about their conditions to implement a high quality education that is attractive to young students. Its rhetoric, politically structured from half-truths and the contempt of academic production, intends to promote its public acceptance, effecting setbacks in the offer of Secondary Education in Brazilian public schools. The duality is reaffirmed under the discourse of a new educational structure, a new curriculum, a new role that youth starts to play in defining their life projects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Museums are educational contexts where people develop different types of experiences. A study is presented that tries to understand, from different perspectives, the experiences of young people in museums. 89 young people, located in the age group of 13 to 22 years, from different localities of, Las Higueras, Córdoba Capital, La Pampa and San Luis) and from different educational institutions (state-managed and private). In addition, three museum educators were interviewed; the first one has a degree in Initial Education, she works in the Regional Historical Museum of Río Cuarto as the person in charge of the Educational Extension Area. The second one has a degree in Art, she is in charge of the guided visits in the Museum of the National University of Tucumán; and the third works as a nonteacher in the Education Area of the Museum of Anthropology, of the National University of Córdoba. Semistructured interviews conducted by video calls to museum educators and online questionnaires for young people were used for data collection, since the process was carried out during the pandemic context. The data analysis was performed based on constant comparisons and open and selective coding. The results indicate that some young people perceive museums as foreign, boring and unmotivating spaces, however, they identify some educational potential of these contexts. The analyzes highlight that the young public needs to participate in interactive proposals that favor social exchange and challenge their creativity. It will be necessary to work on the design of diverse, situated and contextualized strategies for young people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As part of the accelerated development of telecommunications, social networks have decisively broken into the lives of the inhabitants of the planet; Among them, Facebook stands out, for which it constitutes a very important means of communication among students. The study deals with Facebook and its use as a pedagogical resource; In this sense, the objective of the research is to explain, based on interpretations, the perception that teachers and students of basic education have in a district of Cusco in Peru, regarding the social network Facebook and its pedagogical use. The research was developed with a qualitative approach, in which the information was collected through an interview guide that was applied to 10 teachers and 5 students of the aforementioned district. The results show that teachers and students agree that Facebook is the most important social network and that it is possible to use it in learning activities. It is concluded that it is feasible to make a pedagogical use of the Facebook social network due to its ease of use and the fact that it allows the development of activities leading to improve the skills of students, but prior to this, the activities must be planned by the teacher. BASIC education , *SOCIOECONOMIC factors , *PUBLIC spending , *DEPENDENT variables , *PUBLIC education , *DATA envelopment analysis - Abstract
The purpose of this study is to measure the efficiency of public spending on basic education in the municipalities of the State of Paraná and to analyze how the socio-economic variables are related to the efficiency scores. For this, the empirical strategy was based on two steps: i) the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method was used to measure efficiency and; ii) a spatial econometric analysis was performed with the efficiency index estimated in the first step as a dependent variable with socioeconomic variables as covariates. Both steps were implemented with data for the year 2017. The main results indicate that not necessarily the municipalities with the highest IDEB scores are the ones that have the highest efficiency scores for public spending on education. The results of the regressions showed a negative relationship between the share of Funding for Maintenance and Development of Basic Education (FUNDEB) in current revenue and efficiency, showing a potential allocation distortion of public resources in basic education. DATA envelopment analysis , *ASSESSMENT of education , *URBAN schools , *BASIC education , *SCHOOL attendance , *HOMEWORK , *RURAL schools - Abstract
Considering the relevance of efficiency in resource allocation, this study aimed to ascertain how (in)efficient public schools in Paraná in 2017 and 2019. Microdata from the Basic Education Assessment System (SAEB) and the School Census were used. Data Envelopment Analysis was used as methodology. As inputs, school infrastructure scores, student socioeconomic level scores, teachers with higher education percentage and principal's education, were used. As a product, the scores obtained in the SAEB examination were used. The average efficiency of public schools in Paraná in 2017 was 0.8256, and in 2019 it was 0.8279. Rural schools were, on average, more efficient than urban schools and, among administrative dependencies, federal schools were the most efficient, both in 2017 and 2019. The mesoregions more to the center and south of the state presented higher efficiency averages, while the eastern mesoregions were the least efficient. In addition, management variables were verified that can be the object of public policy formulators to promote the increase of educational efficiency, such as the attendance of students' parents to meetings; the encouragement, by the parents, so their children study and not miss classes; as well as the homework correction by teachers. AFRICAN American motion pictures , *AFROCENTRISM , *BLACK films , *COMPULSORY education , *BASIC education , *DEHUMANIZATION , *OPPRESSION - Abstract
This essay proposes to think about the theme of Africanities in education from the point of view of cinema based on Law 10.639/2003, which made teaching Afro-Brazilian history and culture mandatory in basic education. Thus, it aims to think about this didacticization from the "Epistemology of Afrocentricity" by Molefi Kete Asante and the "Pedagogy of the Oppressed" by Paulo Freire. The writing proposes a reflective and dialogic way for those who work in the formative context, using cinema as a pedagogical and cultural device. It concludes about the possibilities of cinema, as a media-educational resource, to raise questions related to Black cinema (agency, place and time -- elements of the Epistemology of Afrocentricity) as an opportunity for thematization and interrogation of issues that problematize oppressive aspects of society (especially in relation to Black people, their exploitation, oppression, invisibility and dehumanization). DATA envelopment analysis , *STATISTICAL models , *PUBLIC education , *BASIC education , *CITIES & towns , *WAGES , *FINANCE - Abstract
Purpose: this study aims to measure the impact of public spending on basic education in the paulista municipalities on the efficiency of public educational expenditure. Method: the calculation of the efficiency is based on the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), having as input the public expenditures in education in the years 2014 to 2017 and output the municipal score of the Prova Brasil 2017. The measurement of the impact of public expenditures on efficiency is based on the technique of Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) by Ordinary Least Squares (OLS), having as explanatory variables educational expenses classified as wages, purchases, travel, interest and permanent materials, and variable response efficiency index of public expenditure. Results: from the statistical models of MLR different regression coefficients were obtained, which estimate the change in the efficiency index of public expenditure when the expenditure is increased or withdrawn. The results expressed that there is a negative correlation between all categories of the expenditure element and the efficiency of public educational spending in the period from 2014 to 2017. Contributions of the study: this work, in a pioneering way, adopts the budget accounting classification of the categories of the element of the expense, thus approaching the study of the efficiency of the closest possible object to which the classification of the expenditure refers. Paleontology is a fundamental theme for the study and understanding of the origin and evolution of life on earth and is included in documents that govern basic education in Brazilian schools. The city of Ponta Grossa is widely known for its sites with abundant fossiliferous content. Based on the relevance of the theme and the characteristics of the region, this study evaluated the level of knowledge about Paleontology and the preservation of Paleontological Heritage among elementary school students of a public school. We used questionnaires, lecture, exhibition of fossils from the region and analysis of the textbooks used by the school with two classes of 7th and 8th grade. In general, the students of the four classes demonstrated a similar level of initial knowledge about the theme, presenting basic conceptualization difficulties and lack of knowledge about the occurrence of fossils in the region. A lack of approach to the theme in the analyzed textbooks was also verified, which corroborates the low level of knowledge of the students. The activities applied were effective in the appropriation of knowledge, with changes in the level of understanding of the students at the end. The importance of using different methodologies for teaching this science is emphasized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CLIMATE change , *BASIC education , *MIDDLE schools , *TEXTBOOKS , *GEOGRAPHY ,DEVELOPED countries - Abstract
Education is an important action for reducing the effects of natural hazards within the context of current climate change. However, in developed countries education has not played a prominent role in the design of risk prevention policies. Moreover, this role is important for raising the awareness of younger cohorts as they will be the protagonists of these processes in the coming decades. The purpose of this work is to propose instruction activities for the treatment of the five main processes of extreme manifestation of the climate that already affect the Mediterranean region and that should be incorporated into the subject of geography (middle and high school). These proposals are intended to be a guide for classrooms to be implemented in other territories and consider their geographical characteristics and availability data. Implementation in classrooms and future editions of school textbooks suppose a commitment to the education factor. This is because education is a basic resource for achieving a society more resilient to the atmospheric hazards linked to climate change. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HISTORICAL materialism , *DIALECTICAL materialism , *COVID-19 pandemic , *BASIC education , *GROUP theory - Abstract
This text aims to establish a critical dialogue, in view of the context of a pandemic that also affected education, about curricular practice in the remote format of teaching. In this context, the curriculum also seems to have been contaminated by the virus of inaccessibility and social inequality, decharacterizing the democratic rule of law. We understand that managing critical perspective in this format is not easy, but it is possible. Our vision is proclaimed as critical, to the extent that we position ourselves in the group of theories of education and curriculum of the ground close to Marxian thought of explaining the concrete world through dialectical historical materialism. For this, we used as a methodological instrument the bibliographic research to support our reflections, and the semi-structured interview with teachers, students and mothers, in order to understand education/teaching in the context of pandemic, in the range of elementary school of Basic Education. The article outlines an overview of the context of remote teaching during the pandemic and then presents, through the analysis of questionnaires applied to research interlocutors, possible ways to think of a critical curricular organization more humane and emancipatory with a view to the scenario of returning to educational work in the post-covid-19 scenario. LEARNING , *LITERACY , *DIGITAL libraries , *BASIC education , *QUALITATIVE research , *TEACHERS , *HEALTH literacy - Abstract
This work has as general objective to reflect on the curricular transformations for literacy from the 1980s on. As specific objectives, it is intended to: a) discuss the degree of importance in the teaching and learning process attributed by the BNCC to literacy; b) reflect on the BNCC construction process; c) to discuss the findings made by research on the theme "literacy and BNCC" that occurred between 2015 and 2020. Characterized as a research of qualitative and bibliographic approach, studied the theme through books and articles made available in virtual libraries, scientific journals and in the Capes Database considering the research published between 2015 and 2020. We conclude that there are many problems in the BNCC proposal, such as not offering more concrete actions related to literacy, while focusing much of this function only on the teacher. Finally, we answer ed the main question of this research: "Habemos Base"? If we are going to think of a document that has the text as the main work, we can mention that we have a basic proposal. However, if we think of the student as a subject and the teacher who needs resources at his disposal, as well as a continuous quality training, we can measure that only the BNCC does not guarantee this evolution that we want, and there is a risk that, once again, it will be a proposal that does not leave the role with the expected effectiveness.
