1. Integration of descriptions of infological model representations at automation of design tasks.

Abstract

This paper investigates integrating model representation descriptions in the form of charts and specifications at the stage of automated systems infological modeling, developed in order to solve design tasks on the methodology for automating intellectual labor (MAIT). In the process of creating the automated system on the basis of MAIT there were developed the following model representations: initial, conceptual, infological and datalogical. The infological model representation is invariant to the software and hardware environment and implementation means. The description of infological model representation includes the following forms (specifications) and charts: for a static component – P1 and P2, the chart of infological structure; for a dynamic component – P3 and P4, the chart depicting a system of subject accesses; for a functional component – P5 and P6, the chart depicting a system of subject manipulations; P8 and the matrix chart showing the model as a whole, including static, functional and dynamic components coordination. The features of building diagrams and the formation of specifications when creating an infological structure are investigated, on the basis of which a method and technique for integrating descriptions of static components for model-projects of automated systems that perform computational tasks in the design of mechanical engineering objects are determined. Abstract

The article deals with the special features of informatization and automation of production processes at the present stage of industrial development, associated with the active implementation of Industry 4.0 concept in the economic activities of manufacturing companies. The advantages of the technology of end-to-end design, preparation of production and production of serial mechanical engineering products, as an element of the "Industry 4.0" concept, in comparison with the technology of classical sequential, top-down design, are analyzed. The composition and block diagram of the hierarchy of the information model of a serial machine-building product for end-to-end design, preparation of production and manufacturing, adapted for all stages of the life cycle of such a product, are considered. Based on the analysis and study of the results of real projects for the implementation of systems and technologies of end-to-end design at transport engineering enterprises in the Sverdlovsk region, conclusions are drawn about specific competitive advantages obtained by enterprises when implementing the principle of end-to-end design, including quantitative assessment. This book has evolved from a course on Mechanics of Robots that the author has thought for over a dozen years at the University of Cassino at Cassino, Italy. It is addressed mainly to graduate students in mechanical engineering although the course has also attracted students in electrical engineering. The purpose of the book consists of presenting robots and robotized systems in such a way that they can be used and designed for industrial and innovative non-industrial applications with no great efforts. The content of the book has been kept at a fairly practical level with the aim to teach how to model, simulate, and operate robotic mechanical systems. The chapters have been written and organized in a way that they can be red even separately, so that they can be used separately for different courses and readers. However, many advanced concepts are briefly explained and their use is empathized with illustrative examples. Therefore, the book is directed not only to students but also to robot users both from practical and theoretical viewpoints. In fact, topics that are treated in the book have been selected as of current interest in the field of Robotics. Some of the material presented is based upon the author's own research in the field since the late 1980's.

Abstract: Computer-Aided Design (CAD) applications provide design and engineering professionals with various computer-based tools to perform design activities. As efficiency is one of the most important requirements in most design tasks, in this article, we contribute a novel collaborative design approach to improving efficiency, where a complex design task can be divided and executed concurrently by multiple collaborative designers. This approach is particularly effective for design tasks where Boolean operations – widely supported by most CAD applications – are heavily used in design activities, such as architecture design, mechanical design and digital media design. Abstract: This paper presents an application of augmented reality for improving spatial abilities of engineering students. An augmented book called AR-Dehaes has been designed to provide 3D virtual models that help students to perform visualization tasks to promote the development of their spatial ability during a short remedial course. A validation study with 24 Mechanical Engineering freshmen at La Laguna University (Spain) has concluded that the training had a measurable and positive impact on students’ spatial ability. On the other hand, results obtained using a satisfaction questionnaire illustrate that AR-Dehaes is considered an easy to use, attractive, and very useful technique for students. AR-Dehaes has proved to be a very cost-effective tool insofar as it only required an ordinary PC with a webcam to be used. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

In this paper, an integrated approach has been proposed to the design and control of the media advance system in thermal inkjet printers. Using H∞ analysis and synthesis approach, the effects of design tolerance and system disturbance on the achievable performance is characterized. The media advance system of thermal inkjet printers is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The benefit of using an integrated design and control approach has also been discussed. The Mechanical Engineering Section at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy has developed a comprehensive activity based course to introduce second year students to mechanical engineering design. The culminating design activity for the course requires students to design, construct and test robotic devices that complete engineering challenges. Teams of students are provided with a standard kit of parts consisting of metal hardware and fasteners, motors, connecting wires and a programmable remote control system. The teams use these materials to design and construct robotic devices that accomplish a simulated maritime mission. The kit of parts is reusable and requires no machine-shop support to create the robotic devices, thereby making this project portable and scalable. In today's competitive global manufacturing industries, standard components play an important role in the commercial success of any product or machine system. The consideration of standard components during the early stages of the new product introduction process is therefore particularly important. However, the ability of the designer to explore different configurations and combinations of standard components is severely frustrated by the analytically intensive and time-consuming aspects of not only embodying a concept but also dealing with standard components and their associated mechanisms for design and selection. This paper presents the application of an integrated modelling environment for the computer-based embodiment of a machine system. The role of such an approach in the design process is discussed and the elements of the modelling environment are summarized. The processes of constructing and embodying a machine system are described and an industrial case study is presented. This paper is concerned with the optimization of the drive for a linear guide press, which is one of the mechanical presses. The design of a linear guide drive for a mechanical press is introduced, and the eccentric mechanism is optimized in order to improve the load and velocity characteristics. The optimized drive is compared with the existing one in terms of load, velocity, torque, etc. As a result of optimization, the load capacity during the stroke is increased and the slide velocity in the working region is reduced.
