The production of nuclear energy generates aqueous effluents during the treatment of spent nuclear fuel. The principle of reprocessing of certain effluents is based on the insolubilization of the radionuclides contained in these effluents by co-precipitation, using salts having a particular chemical affinity for them. The resulting suspension is called «sludge». This sludge is then immobilized in a bituminous matrix by means of a temperature extrusion process, which allows the evaporation of the water contained in the sludge and ensures an intimate mixing between the salts thus recrystallized and the matrix. The resulting bitumen mixes can therefore be described as a dispersion of inorganic salts within a bituminous matrix.However, these salts can present an exothermic reactivity following interactions that can occur with the bituminous matrix or between the different species that constitute them. It is therefore necessary to bring elements of knowledge to the safety study related to the risk of fire inherent in the bituminous waste throughout their life (transport, storage, disposal).Thus, this work aims to study the behavior of bituminous mixes under external thermal stress in order to obtain elements of physicochemical and thermokinetic understanding related to their degradation, with the objective of feeding their knowledge file. However, bituminous mixes incorporate a wide variety of chemical species, and understanding their thermal behavior can be complex.This study was therefore conducted in a preliminary manner on pure bitumen and on simulated bituminous mixes incorporating only nitrate salts. Experimental data were acquired by means of thermal analysis (differential and thermogravimetric) and then modeled by isoconversional methods in order to obtain the thermokinetic parameters associated with the behavior of the studied materials. The nature of the gases emitted during thermal stress was also determined by coupling with gas chromatography. The materials were characterized before and after thermal solicitation, by various solid-state characterization techniques such as infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.When pure bitumen is thermally stressed under anaerobic conditions, an endothermic event caused by its pyrolysis is observed. Under aerobic conditions, the bitumen is the site of several phenomena: two exothermic stages of low temperature oxidation (LTO), followed by an endothermic stage of cracking by fuel deposition (FD) and an exothermic stage of high temperature oxidation (HTO). The activation energies associated with the pyrolysis and FD step, obtained by isoconversional modeling of the experimental data, show close values.The study of the thermal behavior of simplified bitumen incorporating nitrate salts (of sodium or magnesium) under anaerobic conditions has revealed an exothermic reactivity. This exothermicity is increased for bitumen containing sodium nitrate. At low conversion degrees, the bitumen incorporating sodium nitrate shows a behavior similar to that of pure bitumen under anaerobic conditions. As the degree of conversion increases and nitrates are available to be engaged in redox reactions, bituminous mixes exhibit a behavior similar to that of pure bitumen stressed under aerobic conditions. These results suggest a role of fuel for the bitumen and oxidizer for the nitrates.; La production d'énergie d'origine nucléaire génère des effluents aqueux lors du traitement du combustible nucléaire usé. Le principe de retraitement de certains effluents repose sur l'insolubilisation des radionucléides qu'ils contiennent par co-précipitation, au moyen de sels ayant une affinité chimique particulière avec eux. La suspension résultante est qualifiée de « boue ». Cette boue est ensuite immobilisée dans une matrice bitumineuse au moyen d'un procédé d'extrusion en température, qui permet l'évaporation de l'eau contenue dans la boue et assure un mélange intime entre les sels ainsi recristallisés et la matrice. Les enrobés bitumineux résultants peuvent donc être décrits comme une dispersion de sels inorganiques au sein d'une matrice bitumineuse.Ces sels peuvent cependant présenter une réactivité exothermique suite à des interactions qui peuvent se produire avec la matrice bitumineuse ou entre les différentes espèces qui les constituent. Il est donc nécessaire d'apporter des éléments de connaissance à l'étude de sûreté relative au risque d'incendie inhérent aux déchets bitumés pendant toute leur durée de vie (transport, entreposage, stockage). Ainsi, ce travail vise à étudier le comportement des enrobés bitumineux sous sollicitation thermique externe afin d'obtenir des éléments de compréhension physico-chimiques et thermocinétiques liés à leur dégradation, dans l'objectif d'alimenter leur dossier de connaissances. Toutefois, les enrobés bitumineux incorporant une grande variété d'espèces chimiques, la compréhension de leur comportement thermique peut s'avérer complexe.Cette étude a donc été menée de manière préliminaire sur la matrice bitumineuse seule et des enrobés simulés incorporant uniquement des sels de nitrates. Des données expérimentales ont été acquises au moyen d'analyses thermiques (différentielle et thermogravimétrique), puis ont été modélisées par des méthodes isoconversionnelles afin d'obtenir les paramètres thermocinétiques associés au comportement des matériaux étudiés. La nature des gaz émis au cours de la sollicitation thermique a également été déterminée par couplage avec une chromatographie en phase gazeuse. Les matériaux ont été caractérisés avant et après sollicitation thermique, par diverses techniques de caractérisation du solide telles que la spectroscopie infrarouge, la diffraction des rayons X et la microscopie électronique à balayage.Lorsque le bitume pur est sollicité thermiquement en condition anaérobie, un événement endothermique causé par sa pyrolyse est observé. En condition aérobie, le bitume est le siège de plusieurs phénomènes : deux étapes exothermiques d'oxydation à basse température (LTO), suivies d'une étape endothermique de craquage par dépôt de combustible (FD) et une étape exothermique d'oxydation à haute température (HTO). Les énergies d'activations associées à la pyrolyse et l'étape FD, obtenues par modélisation isoconversionnelle des données expérimentales, présentent des valeurs proches.L'étude du comportement thermique d'enrobés simplifiés incorporant des sels de nitrates (de sodium ou de magnésium) en condition anaérobie a permis de mettre en évidence une réactivité exothermique. Cette exothermicité est accrue pour le bitume contenant du nitrate de sodium. À de faibles degrés de conversion, le bitume incorporant du nitrate de sodium présente un comportement similaire à celui du bitume pur sollicité en condition anaérobie. Lorsque le degré de conversion augmente et que les nitrates sont disponibles pour être engagés dans les réactions d'oxydo-réduction, l'enrobé présente un comportement similaire à celui du bitume pur sollicité en condition aérobie. Ces résultats suggèrent un rôle de combustible pour le bitume et de comburant pour les nitrates.

The aim of this Ph.D. thesis is to study the thermal performance of metal foam and phase change material (PCM) composite by using the experimental and numerical methods, in which metal foam possesses a cubic cell structure and is fabricated by 3D printing technique. Firstly, the effects of contact and heat conditions on heat storage rate of PCM composite are investigated to provide theoretical guidance for the practical application of PCM composite in thermal energy storage (TES) system. Then the metal foam with a cubic cell structure is designed and fabricated by 3D printing. The experimental investigation is carried out to examine the melting evolution of PCM embedded in metal foam. Meanwhile, the pore-scale numerical method is also proposed and used to investigate heat transfer characteristics of PCM composite. It is found from the results that the embedding metal foam can short the total melting time of PCM. Considering the influence of morphology parameters of metal foam, the thermal behavior of metal foam with different porosities and pore densities is numerically studied. The last part of this thesis explores the application of metal foam in PCM based heat sink. The thermal response of heat sinks using PCM composite is obtained by the experimental test, including base temperature, temperature variation, operating time and enhancement ratio of operating time. Also, the effects of the porosity of metal foam and the power level of the heater on the thermal response of heat sink are investigated.; Le but de cette thèse est d'étudier les performances thermiques d'une mousse métallique ainsi que de ses composites avec un matériau à changement de phase (MCP) en utilisant des méthodes expérimentales et numériques. La mousse métallique étudiée possède une structure cellulaire cubique. Les effets des conditions de contact et de chaleur sur le taux de stockage de chaleur dans le composite MCP sont d’abord simulés numériquement. Ensuite, la mousse métallique avec une structure cellulaire cubique est conçue et fabriquée par impression 3D. L'étude expérimentale permet par la suite d’observer l'évolution de la fusion du MCP introduit dans la mousse métallique. Parallèlement, une méthode numérique à l'échelle des pores est utilisée pour simuler les caractéristiques de transfert thermique dans le composite MCP. Il ressort des résultats que la mousse métallique d'enrobage peut réduire le temps total de fusion du matériau MCP. Compte tenu de l'influence des paramètres de morphologie de la mousse métallique, nous avons étudié numériquement le comportement thermique de la mousse métallique en variant la porosité et la densité de pores. La dernière partie de cette thèse consiste à explorer une application de la mousse métallique dans les dissipateurs thermiques à base de MCP. Les essais expérimentaux sur composite MCP permettent d’obtenir la réponse thermique des dissipateurs thermiques. Les effets de la porosité de la mousse métallique et de la puissance du chauffage sur la réponse thermique du dissipateur thermique sont également mis en évidence.

The originality of this work is based on analysis of physical and physicochemical properties of polylactide mixtures of different chirality (poly L-lactic acid and poly D-lactic acid) and on the influence of the chirality on the amorphous phase’s properties. The materials mixtures are elaborated from two homopolymers (PLLA and PDLA) according to two methods; solution casting or extrusion. Totally amorphous and isotropically crystallized materials with more or less confined amorphous phase were studied. It is shown that a stereocomplex crystalline phase can be obtained only under certain experimental conditions. The results of the thermal and permeation analyzes showed that the PLLA / PDLA mixture improved certain properties of the material, namely higher barrier properties towards liquid water and gases were obtained compared to parent homopolymers. In order to study the molecular mobility of amorphous phases, physical aging and structural relaxation (α and β relaxation), the Cooperative Rearrangement Region (CRR) concept has been applied. It has been shown that the amorphous phases of the homopolymers and the mixture have exactly the same properties at the glass transition and in the vitreous state when the materials are totally amorphous.; L’originalité de ce travail repose sur une approche physique et physico-chimique des propriétés de mélanges de polylactides de chiralité différentes (poly L-lactique acide et poly D-lactique acide) et sur l’influence de cette chiralité sur les propriétés des phases amorphes de ces matériaux. In this work, we studied the surface chemistry of porous carbons functionalized firstly with oximes and amidoximes and then with guanidine. We focused this work on the understanding and quantification of these functionalization with thermal analysis and more particularly by Temperature Programmed Desorption/Mass Spectrometry (TPD-MS). Subsequently, we evaluated the interest of guanidine functionalization of mesoporous carbons for two applications : the capture of CO2 and the ability to synthesize and stabilize metal nanoparticles. For the first application, CO2 adsorption tests at 0 ° C. and 20 ° C. at 1 bar were carried out on a mesoporous carbon oxidized under air in the presence or absence of guanidine. The intensity of interactions (physisorption versus chemisorption) was probed by isosteric adsorption heat calculations. For the second applications, we used oxidized mesoporous carbons with or without guanidine to synthesize silver nanoparticles less than 2 nm in size and relatively monodisperse in size. Bimetallic AgCu particles were also obtained from these mesoporous carbon matrices impregnated with guanidine. A beneficial role of guanidine on the reduced copper content has been shown here. In situ TEM has also been carried out in order to evaluate the thermal stability of these nanoparticles and to understand the interest of the functionalization on the sintering of these nanoparticles. Finally, catalytic tests for the selective epoxidation of styrene were also performed on these materials. The preliminary results are very promising for a catalyst preparation process and very simple to implement.; Nous avons étudié la chimie de surface de carbones poreux fonctionnalisés avec des oximes et amidoximes d’une part, et avec de la guanidine d’autre part. Nous avons axé ces travaux sur la compréhension et la quantification de ces fonctionnalisations par analyse thermique et plus particulièrement par thermo-désorption programmée en température couplée à la spectroscopie de masse (TPD-MS). Par la suite, nous avons évalué l’intérêt de la fonctionnalisation par la guanidine des carbones mésoporeux pour deux applications : le piégeage du CO2 et la capacité à synthétiser et stabiliser des nanoparticules métallique. Pour la première application, des tests d’adsorption du CO2 à 0°C et 20°C à 1 bar ont été réalisés sur un carbone mésoporeux oxydé sous air en présence ou non de guanidine. L’intensité des interactions (physisorption versus chimisorption) a été sondée par des calculs de chaleurs isostériques d’adsorption. Pour la seconde applications, nous avons utilisé des carbones mésoporeux oxydés en présence ou non de guanidine pour synthétiser des nanoparticules d’argent de taille inférieure à 2 nm et relativement monodisperses en taille. Des particules bimétalliques d’AgCu ont également été obtenues au sein de ces matrices carbonées mésoporeuses imprégnées par la guanidine. On a pu mettre ici en évidence un rôle bénéfique de la guanidine sur le taux de cuivre réduit. Des suivis thermiques par MET in situ ont également été réalisés afin d’évaluer la stabilité thermique de ces nanoparticules et de mieux appréhender l’intérêt de la fonctionnalisation sur les phénomènes de frittage de ces nanoparticules. Finalement, des tests catalytiques pour l’époxydation sélective du styrène ont aussi été effectués sur le matériau Ag/C. Les résultats préliminaires sont très prometteurs pour un procédé de préparation de catalyseur très simple à mettre en œuvre.

Simultaneous measurement of kinematic and thermal full fields are very important for thermomechanical procedures. Silicon-based cameras are widely used to perform real-time observation of the kinematic fields, mainly thanks to digital image correlation. Moreover, they are known to be as well sensitive in the near-infrared spectral range, thus the acquirement of thermal fields using silicon-based cameras is possible. However, there are two main problems for the silicon-based camera to obtain simultaneously kinematic and thermal fields. One is that in the near-infrared spectral range, a small temperature variation will lead to a large modification in the image gray level, which easily leads to poor quality images. Another is that digital image correlation needs a heterogeneous and contrasting surface, while the near-infrared thermography needs a homogeneous and constant surface. In this thesis, an innovative technique was proposed to automatically adjust the exposure time of the camera to obtain kinematically and thermally exploitable images whatever the temperature evolution occurs on the surface of the observed object. This technique was validated by different experiments, including blackbody heating experiments and realistic specimen heating experiments. Radiometric models of blackbody and specimen surfaces ware calibrated respectively. Based on the radiometric models, thermal fields have been reconstructed on the kinematically and thermally exploitable images. High temperature tube ballooning experiment is conducted to perform both kinematic and thermal fields. Global digital image correlation was performed to obtain kinematic fields. To perform near-infrared thermography on the specimen surface, radiometric model is calibrated based on portions of the brightest pixels. In this case 20% of the brightest pixels are used to perform radiometric model calibration. Based on the radiometric model using 20% of the brightest pixels, the thermal fields are reconstructed. Combined with the known coordinates of kinematic fields by digital image correlation, the thermal fields at the same coordinates as kinematic fields can be obtained., La mesure simultanée des champs cinématiques et thermiques est très importante pour les procédures thermomécaniques. Les caméras à base de silicium sont largement utilisées pour l'observation en temps réel des champs cinématiques, principalement grâce à la corrélation d'images numériques. De plus, ils sont aussi connus pour sa sensibilité dans le spectre du proche infrarouge, ce qui permet d’acquérir des champs thermiques à l’aide d’une caméra à base de silicium. Cependant, pour la caméra à base de silicium, il y a deux problèmes principaux d’obtenir simultanément des champs cinématiques et thermiques. D’abord, dans le spectre du proche infrarouge, une petite variation de température entraînera une modification importante du niveau de gris de l'image, ce qui entraînera facilement une mauvaise qualité des images. Deuxième, la corrélation d’images numériques nécessite une surface hétérogène et contrastée, tandis que la thermographie dans le proche infrarouge nécessite une surface homogène et constante. Dans cette thèse, une technique innovante a été proposée pour ajuster automatiquement le temps d'exposition de la caméra afin d'obtenir des images exploitables pour l’analyse cinématique et thermique, quel que soit l'évolution de température à la surface de l'objet observé. Cette technique a été validée par expériences différentes, notamment des expériences de chauffage d’un corps noir et des expériences de chauffage d’un échantillon réel. Les modèles radiométriques du corps noir et de la surface des échantillons calibrent respectivement. Basé sur les modèles radiométriques, des champs thermiques ont été reconstruits sur les images exploitables pour l’analyse cinématique et thermique. L'expérience à haute température est réalisée pour le ballonnement des tubes où les champs cinématiques et thermiques sont observés. La corrélation d'images numériques a été effectuée globalement afin d'obtenir des champs cinématiques. Pour effectuer la thermographie du proche infrarouge sur la surface de l’échantillon, le modèle radiométrique est étalonné selon une partie des pixels les plus brillants. Dans ce cas, 20% des pixels les plus brillants sont utilisés pour effectuer l'étalonnage des modèles radiométriques. Basée sur le modèle en utilisant 20% des pixels plus brillants, les champs thermiques sont reconstruits. Combiné avec les coordonnées connues du champ cinématique par corrélation d'images numériques, le champ thermique et le champ cinématique dans les mêmes coordonnées peut être obtenu.

Dans le contexte actuel de dérèglement climatique et d'épuisement des ressources, la réduction des consommations énergétiques finales du secteur résidentiel/tertiaire représente un enjeu majeur. En France, ce secteur compte pour environ 45% des consommations énergétiques finales. De plus, le parc immobilier est constitué majoritairement de bâtiments anciens et énergivores et son taux de renouvellement annuel est très faible (1% à 2%), raisons pour lesquelles les bâtiments existants représentent un important gisement d'économies d'énergie. Avant d'entreprendre des travaux de rénovation énergétique d'un bâtiment, il est nécessaire d'estimer sa consommation réelle. Ceci requiert une bonne connaissance de ses caractéristiques thermiques. Des méthodes inverses, couplant des modèles physiques et des mesures peuvent être utilisées à cet effet. La présente thèse introduit une méthode inverse d'identification de paramètres de modèles vis-à-vis d'une quantité d'intérêt. Contrairement aux méthodes inverses standards telles que la méthode de régularisation de Tikhonov qui visent à minimiser l'écart entre mesures et résultats de simulation en recalant l'ensemble des paramètres du modèle, l'approche proposée est formulée pour l'amélioration de la prédiction de quantités d'intérêt. Seuls les paramètres auxquels celles-ci sont sensibles sont mis à jour. Pour optimiser le temps de calcul, cette méthode inverse est utilisée en combinaison avec la méthode de réduction de modèles (Proper Generalized Decomposition). La PGD méthode inverse est appliquée à des mesures réelles issues de l'instrumentation de deux bâtiments de l'équipement d'excellence « Sense-City ». Les résultats obtenus montrent que, comme attendu, la méthode proposée n'identifie que les paramètres auxquels les quantités d'intérêt sont le plus sensibles. La méthode d'identification de paramètres vis-à-vis d'une quantité d'intérêt converge plus rapidement comparée à la méthode de Tikhonov. Enfin, cette approche peut être appliquée à des bâtiments réels en situation d'occupation et étendue à l'échelle du quartier. Elle peut également être exploitée pour du positionnement optimal de capteurs. In the current context of climate change and resources depletion, reducting the final energy consumption of the building sector is a major challenge. In France, the sector accounts for about 45% of the final energy consumption. In addition, the building stock consists mainly of old and energy-intensive buildings. Thus the existing buildings represent a major source of energy savings. This work introduces an original inverse strategy for model parameter identification that can be used for onsite building characterization in view of energy performance assessment and as a tool of decision-making during energy retrofitting of existing buildings. Unlike the standard global inverse approaches such as Tikhonov regularization method that aim at identifying all the model parameters in order to best fit the measurement data, the goal-oriented inverse method is formulated for a robust prediction of a quantity of interest. Thus, it only updates the model parameters that most affect the computation of the sought quantity of interest. In order to optimize the computation time, the goal-oriented inverse method is combined with the Proper Generalized Decomposition (PGD) model order reduction method. The proposed identification strategy is applied to two existing buildings which are part of the equipment ?Sense-City? that were instrumented for this purpose. The results show that the goal-oriented inverse method robustly predicts the sought quantities of interest by only updating the model parameters to which they are sensitive and it converges faster than the Tikhonov regularization method. Finally, the proposed inverse strategy can be applied to occupied buildings and extended to the district scale. It can also be used for the optimal location of sensors.

This paper studies the thermal effects on the mineralogical properties as well as the microstructure of 5 year-aged cement pastes, unprotected from contact with the air, heated up to various temperature up to 1000 °C in steps of 100 °C for a constant period of 6 h by studying the TGA/DTG and XRD curves. In order to simulate a real situation of a fire, in this research, the state of the specimens is in a block and the cooling regime is an air-cooling regime. The results show that ageing of the cement paste induces higher carbonation of the cement paste and higher uptake of humidity. The new portlandite formed during cooling and the decarbonation reaction continue to exist up to 1000 °C and 800 °C temperature plateaus, respectively. XRD tests show the presence of the C-S-H gel for all temperature plateaus and the coexistence with its products β-C2S and C3S beyond the 500 °C temperature plateau. In order to proof the effect of ageing, the state of samples and the impact of the cooling regime in the thermal stability and in the microstructure of the cement paste after being subjected to high temperatures, a comparison has been made between the results of powdered cement paste aged for 2 years and cooled in air and the results of blocks of cement paste, also aged for 2 years, but cooled at the desiccator.

Appropriate sand for construction is getting scarce in many countries leading to a growing interest in the use of wastes from several origins in mortar and concrete production. This paper investigates the performances of mortar containing the industrial wastes of vegetable synthetic sponges (VSS) as natural sand replacement. After preparation, different amounts of VSS particles (up to 20 wt% of sand replacement) were incorporated in the cementitious matrix containing 20% of silica fume by weight of cement. The use of silica fume improved the cement-aggregate interface leading to reduce the porosity and to increase consequently the mechanical strength. The replacement of the natural sand with VSS improved the thermal performance of the studied composites by causing a decrease of thermal conductivity up to 63% for 20 wt% of sand replacement by VSS. The thermal diffusivity of composites decreased and the specific heat capacity increased. The combination of VSS and silica fume in cementitious materials can largely improve the post-cracking extension and fracture energy, even if the compression strength is reduced. The study showed that the use of vegetable synthetic sponge wastes provides good potential to answer a major challenge: reducing environmental impact of this material while providing a new use with optimum technical properties, as found with 8 wt% of VSS.

The determination of the thermal resistance of a building envelope is fundamental for the evaluation of the thermal performance of buildings. This could help to evaluate and verify the energy efficiency performance of constructions before renovation, during construction, upon delivery and during use. Some methods exist in the scientific literature but they do not allow a systematic, accurate and rapid evaluation. This paper presents a numerical benchmark of identification methods used to estimate the thermal resistance of an opaque wall. The robustness of each identification technique is investigated in terms of bias and uncertainties. The proposed estimation approach is based on an active method, in which the structure is heated in order to create a temperature gradient across the wall, and on the analysis in dynamic regime of the thermal response of the wall. The investigated walls are internal wall insulation (IWI) and single-wall structures (SWS). The results of the numerical study show that RC model-based identification techniques are the most suitable to estimate the thermal resistance of IWI at a very low computational cost. Nevertheless, the modelling error being larger for the SWS than for the IWI, 1D transient heat equations should be preferred for the identification of SWS thermal resistance. The active thermal strategy allows a relevant estimation of the thermal resistance with an observation time of less than 24 h.

In this study thermal analysis is used in order to identify the reaction scheme of thermal decomposition of an uranium - cerium mixed oxalate into mixed oxide. It was possible to identify the temperature range of the different reactions taken place thanks to temperature ramp experiment. Isothermal experiments at target temperature are then carried out to produce and characterize intermediates (Infrared, SEM microscopy, surface area); in other hand, the thermal analysis was coupled with gas mass spectrometry. This approach allowed a better understanding of reaction scheme compared to literature information., Dans le cadre du recyclage des matières valorisables (actinides U, Pu) issues du combustible nucléaire irradié, la conversion est une étape importante qui intervient à l’interface entre les procédés de séparation/purification et les étapes de (re)fabrication de combustible mixte de type MOx. Cette étape doit donc pouvoir intégrer les flux de purification tout en conduisant à des oxydes ou mélanges d’oxydes adaptés à la mise en forme de combustibles. Ces besoins sont d’autant plus marqués avec le déploiement des réacteurs de 4ème génération et impliquent le développement de nouveaux procédés de conversion pour prendre en compte les problématiques propres à cette rupture technologique (eg. cadence plus élevée, isotopie et teneur Pu, gestion des effluents liquides et gazeux, etc.).Pour répondre à ces besoins futurs, de nouvelles voies de synthèse ont été identifiées par le CEA allant de l’adaptation à court terme de voies existantes déjà éprouvées basées sur la conversion oxalique, à des voies plus innovantes nécessitant une R&D à plus long terme. C’est dans ce cadre, via le projet ANR ASTUTE, que la voie par co-conversion oxalique est investiguée. L’oxalate mixte obtenu par précipitation subit un traitement thermique de manière à obtenir l’oxyde mixte. Ce traitement thermique est alors une étape clé puisqu’il permet de contrôler la plupart des caractéristiques morphologiques, texturales et chimiques finales de l’oxyde, caractéristiques qui conditionnent la mise en forme du combustible. Lors de cette conversion thermique, une série de transformations ont lieu avant l’obtention de l’oxyde final. De manière à prédire et donc à maitriser les caractéristiques de ce solide, une connaissance fine du schéma réactionnel lors du traitement thermique est nécessaire. L’utilisation de la thermogravimétrie en rampe de température et en palier isotherme dans le cas d’un oxalate mixte uranium-cérium a permis d’isoler des intermédiaires réactionnels lors de la conversion de l’oxalate en oxyde. Ces intermédiaires ont été caractérisés d’un point de vue chimique (spectroscopie IRTF), morphologique (MEB) et texturale (surface spécifique et volume poreux).

Functional properties of vegetal concretes, such as hygrothermal and acoustical properties, are brought by the microstructure of the vegetal particles. However, data are necessary to develop biobased insulation materials by providing results on their long-term behaviour, and only few studies focus on this topic. A first step is to characterise the behaviour of vegetal aggregates in bulk.In this study, hemp shiv is stored for two years in three different conditions: a static environment used as reference, accelerated aging conditions based on humidification and drying cycles, and an exterior aging. The potential evolution of functional properties of particles is monitored with time and depending on the aging conditions. These evolutions are understood thanks to a study at a microscopic scale, where the microstructure of the particles is investigated.This study shows that no variation is observed for the reference conditions, whereas four phenomena linked to aging can be identified for accelerated and exterior aging conditions: a mass loss, volume variations of the particles and an opening of the aggregates porosity for both storing conditions. The last one, only observed for exterior aging, is a modification of the pore size distributions. International audience; This study investigated the strength development of cement-treated soils by considering not only the interactions among cement hydration and pozzolanic reaction, but also the carbonation process. Indeed, the chemical and microstructural changes in cement-treated soils are due to carbonation combined with previous reactions and no studies took into account all processes at the same time. Three soil specimen types (specifically, sand, sand-loam, and sand-bentonite mixtures) were cured under sealed and drying conditions and their unconfined compressive strength, microstructural and chemical properties subsequently measured over time. Under drying conditions, behaviors varied with soil mineralogy. The compressive strength of all mixtures significantly increased with decreasing total micropore induced by carbonation and suction effects. However, in the sand-clay mixture under long-term drying, the compressive strength remained constant or slightly decreased after 28 days, correlating with the increase in large capillary pore caused by shrinkage of bentonite and C-S-H carbonation. These results revealed that carbonation could have both positive and negative impacts on strength development of cement-treated soils.

No atual cenario tecnologico brasileiro, ainda e necessario o desenvolvimento de ferramentas mais eficientes que busquem explicacoes sobre os fenomenos que envolvem e controlam a conversao da madeira em carvao vegetal em escala proxima a industrial. Diante disso, o trabalho teve como objetivo analisar o potencial do forno piloto, Macro ATG, a partir do comportamento do fluxo gasoso durante o processo de pirolise de toretes de madeira de eucalipto. O desenvolvimento do forno foi realizado pelo laboratorio BioWooEB do CIRAD-Franca. Foram utilizados clones de Eucalyptus urophylla , agrupados em duas classes de diâmetro: 8 – 10 cm e 13 – 16 cm. Foram avaliados o fluxo gasoso e gerado perfis de temperaturas dentro da madeira, afim de acompanhar a transferencia de calor durante o processo. Houve aumento do fluxo gasoso entre as temperaturas de 350 a 500˚C, devido a intensificacao da conversao da madeira em carvao vegetal. O volume total de gases produzidos foi da ordem de 543 cm 3 e 697 cm 3 , respectivamente para a menor e maior classe diametrica. As experimentacoes identificaram a ausencia de uniformidade das temperaturas devido o processo de transferencia de calor no interior do torete. A temperatura na superficie mais externa e aproximadamente 33% maior que no interior da peca de madeira. Dessa forma, o forno pode ser considerado inovacao tecnologica no estudo da pirolise e da avaliacao dos subprodutos gasosos e liquidos, sendo possivel acompanhar, em escala macroscopica, a variacao do volume gasoso e o comportamento da transferencia termica na madeira.

The objective of this thesis is to study and optimize the manufacturing process of metal foams and the thermal behavior of the aluminum foam/phase change material (PCM) composite by experimental and numerical methods. The manufacturing process of open-cell aluminum foam is developed and optimized to precisely control the parameters of mufacturing. Two pore-scale models of high porosity aluminum foams (HPAF)/PCM composite and low porosity aluminum foams (LPAF)/PCM composite are established for numerical simulation. By simulating the melting process of a layer energy storage system, the HPAF/PCM and LPAFS/PCM composite are compared numerically in order to evaluate the energy storage performance. The results show that aluminum foam improves greatly the heat transfer process in PCM due to its high thermal conductivity. The porosity of aluminum foams could not only influence the melting process of composite but also the energy storage performance. Thanks to the collaboration with EPF, a new manufacturing method of periodic open-cell aluminum foams is developed based on 3D rapid tooling. This model is applied on a motor drive power converter mounted on its air-cooled heatsink. It offers fast calculations of the junction temperature, taking into account the self-heating and the cross coupling effect. The calculations are based on averaged power losses obtained from the expression of the duty cycle, and analytical expressions of the system thermal impedances, which are measured by fast optical fiber temperature sensors. The model results are finally validated based on experimental measurements, which are carried out on a motor test set up at one operating point of the power converter, when the THI-PWM switching technique is used.

International audience; Mountain soils store huge amounts of carbon which may be highly vulnerable to the strong land use and climate changes that mountain areas currently experience worldwide. Here, we tested the Rock-Eval (RE) pyrolysis as a proxy technique to (i) quantify soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks, (ii) bring insights into SOC bulk chemistry and (iii) investigate biogeochemical stability at the landscape scale in a mountain area of the French calcareous Prealps. A total of 109 soils from 11 eco-units representing the variety of ecosystems of the study area were analyzed with RE pyrolysis. RE pyrolysis showed an excellent predictive performance (R2 = 0.99) for SOC content even in calcareous soils. The technique revealed specific chemical fingerprints for some eco-units and soil types, with decreasing hydrogen index values from Anthroposols (425 ± 62 mg HC/g SOC) to Umbrisols, Leptosols (311 ± 49 mg HC/g SOC) and to Cambisols (278 ± 35 mg HC/g SOC), associated with an increase in SOC maturation. Newly developed RE pyrolysis indices revealed the high stability of SOC in most eco-units developed on Cambisols (acidic grasslands, alpine meadows, bushy facies) and a significantly lower stability of SOC in mountain ridges, sheepfold areas and coniferous forest soils. The persistence of SOC in this mosaic of ecosystems may depend not only on its chemistry or thermal stability, but also on local environmental factors such as climatic conditions or pH, especially for high altitude soils. Overall, RE pyrolysis appears as an appropriate tool for landscape scale carbon inventories and could become a standardized proxy for assessing the vulnerability of SOC stocks.

International audience; Aircraft hydraulic systems traditionally provide power for flight surface actuation, but are heavy, complex to maintain in service, and consume significant amounts of energy. Electrical based actuators help tackle these issues, but come with other challenges, such as thermal integration. Indeed, the close vicinity of several heat sources (hydraulic pump and bloc, electrical motor, control unit) in a cavity that is only passively cooled makes it difficult to guarantee the electrical motor and Electronic Control Unit (ECU) safe operation over the entire aircraft mission from a thermal point of view. In addition, systems thermal behavior can be critical when used inside composite structures that can lose durability under high temperatures. Collaborative European-Russian project RESEARCH (w3.onera.fr/RESEARCH/) has enabled the thermal analysis of a regional aircraft stabilizer bay that houses two elevator actuators, so as to support and optimize actuator motor design. This analysis largely relied on Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) given the early actuator design phase and the need for mission-wide analysis, through a number of varying scenarios. However the additional insight of three-dimensional analysis has also been included with simulations performed at thermally critical flight conditions. The methodology, models, outputs and implications for motor design gained from this study are described in this paper. Isothermal and isobaric thermogravimetry allows measuring the kinetic rate of chemical transformations of divided or bulk solids. The interpretation of the kinetic curves is based on the separation of time from the thermodynamic variables in the rate équation. "Geometrical" models describing the variations of the speed according to time are presented as well as the tests allowing to verify their hypotheses. The article showsalso how to study the "reaction mechanisms" of nucleation and growth from the variations of the kinetic rate with the thermodynamic variables. Numerous examples of reactions of industrial and/or academic interest illustrate the modelling approach as well as the confrontation of the models to the experimental data, La thermogravimétrie isotherme et isobare permet de mesurer la vitesse de transformation chimique de solides massifs ou divisés. L’exploitation des courbes cinétiques repose sur la séparation des variables temps et des variables thermodynamiques dans l’équation de vitesse. Des modèles « géométriques » décrivant les variations de la vitesse en fonction du temps sont présentés ainsi que les tests permettant de valider leurs hypothèses. L’article montre également comment étudier les «mécanismes réactionnels » de germination et de croissance à partir des variations de lavitesse avec les variables thermodynamiques. De nombreux exemples de réactions d’intérêt industriel et/ou académique illustrent la démarche de modélisation ainsi que la confrontation des modèles aux données expérimentales.

This paper presents the design and thermal characterization of a 15 × 22 mm2 LTCC module dedicated to the packaging of the elements of a miniature atomic clock. This module acts as a carrier for the components of the clock as well as temperature controller; this is particularly attractive since each component of the atomic clock requires precise and well defined working temperatures. For the thermal characterization of the designed module, various thermal simulations have been performed, by finite-element modelling using the software ANSYS; in each simulation a different experimental heating configuration was hypothesized, in order to determine the power required for achieving the desired temperature in the ideal case (module in perfect vacuum with no losses rather than conduction towards the external “cold” zone, through two small bridges) , and also for estimating the thermal losses that convection introduces into the system. The simulations were then experimentally validated by realizing and characterizing the different configurations, yielding results that were consistent with the simulations. The best experimental configuration was found, in which the heating performance was fairly close to the ideal one. The results show that LTCC is a very attractive technology for atomic clock packaging also in terms of dissipated power, provided the system is efficiently insulated.

L'objectiu d'aquest treball és analitzar mètodes químics de baix cost com a ruta per a sintetitzar òxids avançats a baixa temperatura. En particular, hem explorat l'SHS per a la síntesi d'un òxid catalitzador fent servir pólvores de ciano complexes heteronuclears. També hem explorat el transport de calor per a sintetitzar capes via VCS concloent que les capes primes rarament experimentaran una combustió. Per això hem analitzat la condició necessària per que tingui lloc una combustió volumètrica en una mostra sòlida que reacciona sense intercanvi de gasos amb el seu entorn. Per fer-ho, hem ampliat el criteri de Frank-Kaminetskii per a sistemes d'escalfament continu i per a reactors cilíndrics. Per la part experimental em fet servir tècniques l'anàlisi tèrmica (TA). Hem desenvolupat un mètode per a mesurar la conductivitat tèrmica en pólvores per DSC. Finalment, hem desenvolupat dos criteris per a comprovar la fiabilitat en la mesura de la temperatura als experiments de TA., The aim of this work is to analyse chemical methods as a route to synthesise advanced oxides at low cost and low temperatures. In particular, we have explored the combustion synthesis of a catalytic perovskite-type oxide from heteronuclear cyano complex powders. We have also explored heat transfer to synthesise films via VCS and concluded that thin films will hardly experience combustion. In particular, we have analysed the conditions needed for a thermal explosion to occur in a solid sample reacting without any gas exchange with its surroundings. For that purpose, we have extended the Frank-Kamenetskii relationship to continuous heating systems and to cylindrical reactors. The experimental component of this work is based on thermal analysis methods (TA). We have developed a new method to measure thermal conductivity of powders by DSC. Finally, we have developed two analytical relationships to check the reliability of the sample temperature in TA experiments.

This present work consists in two parts. The first part is focused on the development of a numerical method to simulate the operation of active magnetic refrigeration cycle (AMR) in order to predict thermal performances of the cycle and consequently to contribute to the comprehension of the complex magneto-thermal coupling between the carrier fluid and the magnetocaloric effect of solid refrigerant. For this purpose, energy equations for the fluid and solid are considered to describe the transient heat exchange between the magnetocaloric material and carrier fluid circulating in the regenerator bed. The thermomagnetic properties of the solid refrigerant have been determined by using mean field theory as well as experimental measurements. The resulting mathematical model has been solved by using the finite difference method. The implicit scheme has been considered to discretize the time. The validity of the numerical model has been investigated through the recently developed magnetic cooling demonstrator of Clean Cooling Systems SA (CCS) of HES−SO. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the experimental study of the feasibility of multilayer magnetic refrigerants based on LaFeCoSi compounds likely to enhance performance of the demonstrator. The principal results include the temperature span, the cooling capacity and coefficient of performance are presented and discussed. In general, good agreements have been noted between the experimental and numerical predictions, Le présent travail de thèse porte sur deux volets. Le premier volet consistait à développer une méthode numérique permettant de simuler le fonctionnement du cycle de réfrigération magnétique avec régénération active (le cycle AMR -Active Magnetic Regeneration-), et ce, afin de prédire les performances thermiques du cycle et par conséquent de contribuer à la compréhension du couplage magnétothermique complexe entre le fluide caloporteur et le réfrigérant solide à effet magnétocalorique. Pour ce faire, les équations de l’énergie pour le fluide et le solide ont été considérées en régime transitoire pour modéliser les échanges de chaleur entre le matériau magnétocalorique et le fluide caloporteur s’écoulant dans le lit régénérateur. Les propriétés thermomagnétiques du réfrigérant solide ont été déterminées en considérant, d’une part, la théorie des champs moléculaires et les mesures expérimentales, d’autre part. Les équations du modèle mathématique résultant ont été résolues par la méthode des différences finies. Le schéma implicite a été considéré pour discrétiser le temps. La validation du modèle numérique a été étudiée à travers le démonstrateur de réfrigération magnétique de Clean Cooling Systems SA (CCS) au sein de HES- SO. Le deuxième volet de la thèse s’est focalisé sur l’étude expérimentale de la faisabilité des réfrigérants magnétiques multicouches à base de composés de LaFeCoSi susceptibles d’améliorer les performances de démonstrateur. Les principaux résultats obtenus incluant l’écart de température entre la source chaude et la source froide, la puissance frigorifique, le coefficient de performance sont présentés et discutés. En général, de bonnes concordances ont été notées entre l’expérimental et les prédictions numériques.

This present work consists in two parts. The first part is focused on the development of a numerical method to simulate the operation of active magnetic refrigeration cycle (AMR) in order to predict thermal performances of the cycle and consequently to contribute to the comprehension of the complex magneto-thermal coupling between the carrier fluid and the magnetocaloric effect of solid refrigerant. For this purpose, energy equations for the fluid and solid are considered to describe the transient heat exchange between the magnetocaloric material and carrier fluid circulating in the regenerator bed. The thermomagnetic properties of the solid refrigerant have been determined by using mean field theory as well as experimental measurements. The resulting mathematical model has been solved by using the finite difference method. The implicit scheme has been considered to discretize the time. The validity of the numerical model has been investigated through the recently developed magnetic cooling demonstrator of Clean Cooling Systems SA (CCS) of HES−SO. Resume Differentes poudres precurseurs (carbonates, oxalates, citrates) de manganites de lanthane dopes au strontium ont ete preparees par chimie douce. Apres calcination, ces precurseurs conduisent aux oxydes mixtes a structure perovskite LaxSr1–xMnO3, dont la morphologie et la taille des particules dependent a la fois de celles du precurseur et des conditions du traitement thermique. Des analyses thermiques de la decomposition des precurseurs montrent que seuls les citrates sont des precurseurs mixtes, ce qui permet d’obtenir les oxydes a structure perovskite des 600 °C, au lieu de 850 °C pour les oxalates et 900 °C pour les carbonates. De plus, seule la methode des citrates conduit a des poudres d’oxydes dont la morphologie, la surface specifique, la non-stœchiometrie peuvent etre modulee dans une large gamme. EPDM (EThylene Propylene Diene Monomer) are used as insulation for electrical cables in nuclear plants. Because of the radiative environment, the degradation of these cables is accelerated and a strong industrial challenge consists in the prediction of the cables lifetime. To address this crucial industrial concern, we first looked into the influence of the chemical composition of EPDM on their kinetics of degradation. To do so, two EPDM with different chemical compositions have been irradiated under radiations and in the presence of oxygen. The soluble fraction and the active chain density have been monitored as a function of the irradiation dose, and revealed the degradation by cross-linking and chain scissions. Furthermore, the kinetics of these mechanisms have been estimated based on statistical models: the cross-linking kinetics depends on the residual ENB content while the chain scission kinetics vary neither with the chemical composition nor the initial cross-linking degree. Moreover, beyond an irradiation dose, the cross-links are progressively broken. The mechanical performances were then studied at 80°C to prevent crystallinity. If the irradiation induces a decrease of the stress at break, the materials show an increase of the strain at break conversely to the EPDM systems studied by Planès et al. The mechanical properties of notched samples have then been employed in order prevent heterogeneities driven crack initiation. The tearing energy measured was correlated with the failure energy of notched samples andcan be described by the Lake and Thomas model with account for the real length between cross-links. The same study has then been performed at 25°C where the properties at break are seen to improve. Such improvements despite irradiation confirm that crystallites attenuate the degradation. This effect is more pronounced for the current set of materials because of a strong chemi-crystallisation. The addition of ATH fillers has been studied as well, showing an acceleration of the matrix degradation with the specific surface of the fillers. The understanding of the mechanical properties at break of filled materials seems complex because the failure can be obtained by various competing processes. Nevertheless, the matrix chemical nature can be mentioned as an important factor since the difference between the matrix mechanical properties and the matrix-filler interface properties will trigger the creation of macro-defects at the origin of failure. As for the neat matrix, the evolution of the composites mechanical properties tested at 25°C depends on the evolutions of both the crystallinity and the amorphous phase. More generally, this work questions the relevance of the actual lifetime criterion used in the industry. The energies at break are more directly correlated to the microstructural parameters and thus could correspond to a relevant criteria for predicting these systems lifetime., Les EPDM (Ethylène Propylène Diène Monomère) sont employés comme isolants des câbles électriques des centrales nucléaires. En raison de l’environnement radioactif, ils se dégradent plus rapidement qu’en environnement classique. La détermination de leur durée de vie est donc un enjeu industriel important. Pour y parvenir, ce travail a d’abord consisté à déterminer l’influence de la composition des EPDM sur leurs cinétiques de dégradation. Ainsi, deux EPDM de composition chimique différente ont été irradiés sous rayonnement en présence d’oxygène. Les suivis de la fraction soluble et de la densité de chaines actives en fonction de la dose, ont permis de mettre en évidence une dégradation par réticulation et coupures de chaines. A partir de modèles statistiques, les cinétiques de ces deux processus ont pu être estimées : la réticulation dépend de la proportion en ENB résiduels tandis que les coupures de chaines sont indépendantes de la composition chimique et du degré de réticulation initial. De plus, au - delà d’une certaine dose, les nœuds de réticulation semblent progressivement détruits. Nous nous sommes ensuite intéressés aux conséquences de l’irradiation sur les propriétés mécaniques et ce, d’abord à 80°C, pour s’affranchir de la présence de cristallites. Si dans tous les cas, l’irradiation conduit à une décroissance de la contrainte à la rupture, nos matériaux montrent une déformation à rupture qui augmente avec la dose contrairement aux matériaux de Planès et al. Pour s’affranchir du rôle des hétérogénéités sur l’initiation de fissure, les propriétés mécaniques d’éprouvettes entaillées ont ensuite été étudiées. L’énergie de déchirement est corrélée à l’énergie de rupture des matériaux entaillés et peut être décrite par le modèle de Lake et Thomas, à condition de prendre en compte la longueur réelle entre nœuds de réticulation des matériaux irradiés. Aussi, les propriétés en rupture de tous les matériaux sont améliorées quand ils sont étudiés à 25°C et la présence de cristallites masque les conséquences de la dégradation ; cet effet est ici très marqué en raison d’une importante chimie - cristallisation. Des EPDM chargés ATH ont alors été étudiés. Nos résultats confirment une accélération de la dégradation par les ATH, dépendant de la surface spécifique des charges. La compréhension des propriétés en rupture des composites s’avère complexe car la rupture peut être entrainée par divers processus en compétition. L’évolution des propriétés mécaniques des composites testés à 25°C est, comme pour la matrice pure, dépendante de l’évolution de la cristallinité et des propriétés de la phase amorphe. Enfin, ce travail remet en cause la pertinence des critères de durée de vie actuellement utilisés dans l’industrie. Les énergies de rupture étant plus directement corrélées aux paramètres microstructuraux, ne faudrait-il pas plutôt considérer ce paramètre comme critère?

The aim of this work is to understand the influence of silica nanoparticles on the physical transitions of different polymer matrix : polyfurfuryl alcohol (PFA), polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Thus, the conventionnal thermal analysis techniques (TGA, DSC, DMTA) were employed in correlation with atypical techniques (multifrequency DSC, FSC, UFSC). In the case of PFA, the silica nanoparticles led to an increase of the Tg and of the thermomechanical properties. Besides, it was demonstrated that the presence of silica is enough to realise faster the polymerization process. The crystallization from the melt of PTFE was investigated for the first time on a very large range of cooling rates (untill 800 000 K.s-1). The enhancement of the nucleation process at slow cooling rates due to the silica nanoparticles has been put in relief with the study of filled PTFE crystallization. Yet, it has been shown that it slows down the diffusion of the chains through the medium for some of the cooling rates. The influence of silica nanoparticles on PDMS glass transition and crystallization was finally studied. The silica nanoparticles don't induce any significative effect on the glass transition. It appeared that the nanoparticles strongly influence the crystallization kinetics. This effect is linked to the enhancement of nucleation process by silica without any effect on chain diffusion.; Le but de ce travail est de comprendre l'influence des nanoparticules de silice sur les transitions physiques de matrices polymères de nature différente : l'alcool polyfurfurylique (PFA), le polytétrafluoroéthylène (PTFE) et le polydiméthylsiloxane (PDMS). Pour cela, les techniques d'analyse thermique conventionnelles (ATG, DSC, DMA) ont été couplées à des techniques atypiques (DSC multifréquence, FSC, UFSC).Dans le cas du PFA, les nanoparticules de silice ont entrainé une augmentation de la Tg ainsi qu'une amélioration des propriétés thermomécaniques. En outre, il a été démontré que la seule présence de silice suffit à favoriser les mécanismes de polymérisation. La cristallisation du PTFE à partir de l'état fondu a été étudiée pour la première fois sur une gamme de vitesse de refroidissement très large (jusqu'à 800 000 K.s-1). L'effet nucléant des nanoparticules de silice a également été mis en avant à faibles vitesses de refroidissement lors de l'étude de la cristallisation du PTFE chargé. Cependant, il s'est avéré qu'elle ralentit également la diffusion des chaines dans le milieu pour certaines vitesses. L'influence des nanoparticules de silice sur la transition vitreuse et la cristallisation du PDMS a finalement été étudiée. Les résultats ont montré que la silice n'induit pas d'effet significatif sur la transition vitreuse. D'autre part, la silice influence fortement la cinétique de cristallisation. Cet effet a été directement lié au fait que la silice favorise la nucléation sans influencer la diffusion des chaines.
