Abstract

The ABO blood group is the most important blood group system, and accurate ABO typing is essential for safe transfusion and transplantation. The novel I A i allele showed nucleotide I c.467C > T i and I c.784G > A i substitutions in the background of the I A1.01 i allele, resulting in p.Pro156Leu and p.Asp262Asn amino acid substitutions. The nucleotide polymorphism in Exons 6 and 7 of the novel allele introduced in this study compared to other ABO alleles. [Extracted from the article]

Abstract

The article discusses a study which investigated a novel B allele in a Korean family with a weak B3 phenotype. Topics discussed include the molecular and serologic background of the B3 variant in the ABO blood group, c.721C>C missense mutation in the B allele and the co-existence of the B allele with the A101 allele.
