Gallup poll conducted to determine the views of Americans on death penalty for person convicted with murder reveal that 74% are in its favor despite the belief of most Americans that innocent people have been put to death in the past. Given a choice between death penalty and life imprisonment it was found that a slight majority favors death penalty to life imprisonment.

A survey of 1,008 adults, conducted January 11-14, 2002, found that George W. Bush had an average approval rating of 86%, which was only tops by Harry S. Truman's 87% rating in the spring of 1945 following the death of Franklin Roosevelt. Overall, Bush averaged a 67% job rating for his first year in office, while Harry Truman, John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson all averaged over 75%. The results of the survey are discussed and tabulated and compared to similar, past surveys. The Mood of the Nation Index is graphed.

Thirty-four percent would be willing to continue using military action for over 3 years in Afghanistan without capturing Osama bin Laden or removing the Taliban from power. A survey conducted November 2-4, 2001, found 40% of adults aged 18 years and older are somewhat worried about being victimized by a terrorist attack. Ten percent said they are very worried. The number who say more acts of terrorism in the United States are at least somewhat likely dropped to 65%, versus 85% in an October 19-21 poll. Fifty-five percent consider government terrorist alerts beneficial, while 40% think they scare the public. The results of the survey are tabulated and analyzed.
