Agriculture is essential to achieving the country's food and nutritional security objectives. The Cauvery Delta Zone in Tamil Nadu contributes significantly to the state's agricultural productivity. However, productivity has decreased in recent years, and farming circumstances in the delta region have deteriorated since 2023. Farmers' incomes are low due to factors such as changes in soil water intrusion, increased irrigation patterns, and agricultural input prices. Furthermore, climate change has raised the cost of production for farmers by forcing them to purchase additional herbicides and insecticides to combat new crop diseases. Water scarcity and debts are the most prominent grounds for farmer suicides in the Cauvery Delta region. To appreciate the importance of agriculture to household income, one must first grasp the nature of landholding. Furthermore, the study used time series analysis to examine land use and cropping patterns in the Tamil Nadu district. The findings show a drop in net sown area and a shift in cropping patterns as a result of irregular rainfall patterns and insufficient irrigation water infrastructure in the district.
