Russia's war on Ukraine has generated a new chain of insecurities in Europe: energy and food crises, new migration flows from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, military threats sharpened by Russia's invasion are triggering a spatial and territorial reshuffling of Europe's Eastern flank. In this context, regional dynamics within and across the Eastern frontiers of Europe have undergone a succession of path-breaking transformations ranging from overt support to the Ukrainian war effort to decoupling from the Russian economy and an unprecedented boost to expanding the European Union's security architecture. However, one of the most important effects of the war is the growing gap between two regional models which might be dubbed normative (Europeanization within the EU- and NATO-led European normative space) and post-colonial (exemplified by different Russia-centric projects within the post-Soviet space). The original contribution of this special issue is to address the conceptual connections between security, borders and national identity to discuss the evolving European landscape. While we do not explore the military side of the war, we focus on the nexus of (in)security and bordering practices to capture how a combination of geopolitical changes, economic dynamics and human dimensions of war has created new borders and reshaped existing ones. This paper attempts to uncover aspects of artistic performances where the lines between real life and artistic representations are quite blurred. To achieve this purpose, we will investigate the interdependencies of the artistic power of Lalish theatre, a performance troupe emerging from an oppressed Kurdish context, coupled with the human and socio-political dimensions of Lalish performances. By adopting a qualitative descriptive analysis of key features of the performances, the research delves into the methods employed in Lalish performances to challenge and destabilize conventional dramatic norms, hence the emergence of a compelling form of tacit social resistance. Premised on Foucault's concept of heterotopia, the study investigates the ways Lalish performances employ space and artists' bodies and voices to implant viewers within innovative realms, those that expose, upset and criticize societal norms all at once. The inquiry is focused on the concept of enacted utopias, through which Lalish theatre disrupts overriding hierarchies and foresees alternative realities. Through diverse cultural connotations premised on the deconstruction of conventional narratives, Lalish performances speak a unique theatrical language, one that enhances human understanding and social awareness and supports ethics of equity and human dignity. The research examines how Lalish theatre transports audiences into freer spaces where they are allowed not only to interpret performances, but also to contribute to constructing them. It is through such non-chronological presentations aiming at creating a potential broader vision of a more equitable reality that the troupe exhibits aspects of resistance to the objectifying and constraining practices endorsed by conventional dance. By investigating the interplay harmonizing body, voices and spaces, this study reveals how Lalish holistic and innovative performances might serve as a powerful artistic tool for creating new realities where human empowerment equity and dignity could prevail. Optimal lighting design for the rooms used by children with special needs requires a consideration of the psychological and aesthetic effects on these children. Lighting design in general is the process of integrating light into architecture to provide comfort, safety, and aesthetics. When designing lighting for children with special needs, certain criteria and considerations must be set out to ensure that the design matches the children’s needs. The interior designer must apply the appropriate scientific methods and systems to reach the desired psychological and aesthetic goals; this process includes studying the basic criteria for designing light and using modern optical systems to reach the best results, according to the children’s activity inside the room, with the possibility of applying standards, considerations and laws related to light to develop basic suggestions for the design of interior lighting. The aim of this research is to determine the best techniques, methods, and standards of lighting for the rooms of children with special needs. It evaluates practices and latest technologies related to the process of designing interior lighting for children with special needs, including lighting that allows them to accomplish their tasks while also feeling safe. The research method depends on the descriptive analysis by studying the principles of both natural and artificial lighting and their standards and considerations, followed by the statistical analysis by modeling two different spaces for children with special need: a private bedroom and a public space for activities in which children with different disabilities can interact. A questionnaire was used to explore the opinion of specialists in the field of interior design about the two different modeled spaces. The results shows that good lighting design can provide ease of functionality with a sense of comfort and safety, meanwhile achieves the aesthetics of the interior design. The employment of artificial lighting with natural lighting is important to achieve a healthy environment upbringing for children in general and for people with special needs as well.

El país de las calles sin nombre recounts the physical and memorial journey of young Alice Miller, back in a never named but clearly identifiable Nicaragua, reminiscent of the convulsive and bloody spring of 2018. A novel of memory, and in several ways, since individual and collective history are intertwined. Between memories of the civil war at the time of the revolution, and memory gaps due to exile, this story also acts as a rediscovery of identity. We’ll be looking at the close links between memory and identity in this fiction, as they are known to be correlative, if not consubstantial: how do individual and collective memories affect the protagonist’s identity? How do they come into tension in a turbulent context that stirs up a no less troubled past? We’ll look first at the memorial implications of the protagonist’s return to her homeland, then at the repercussions on her identity of memories of collective history; finally, we’ll examine the treatment of space, since memory also has a spatial framework

The aim of this study is to discuss aspects of Brazilian neoregionalism in contemporary literature, problematize the literary space based on Brazilian neoregionalism, which emerges as a new trend in literature, and finally analyze how fictional and subjective spaces are configured and singularized in neoregionalist works: Uma Jornada como Tantas (2019) by Francisco Dantas and Essa Gente (2019) by Chico Buarque. The research is categorized as bibliographic and is based on the theoretical perspective of the following authors: Braga (2017), Bachelard (1993), Ozíres (2007), Brandão (2013), and Tuan (2015). First, the necessary foundation was sought to characterize how fictional and subjective spaces directly influence the characters' identity formation, influencing their emotions, decisions, conflicts, and constitutions. Next, na attempt was made to understand how the characters' subjectivities are directly linked to the space in which they are inserted. Finally, analyses of spaces in neoregionalist works were conducted, meticulously observing their composition in the characters' identity formation, as well as how they act not only in the physical environment but also in the narrative construction, since the space is constructed through dialogues among the characters, their memories, experiences, and subjectivities, characterizing a certain place based on their experiences. The first analysis - a tango with the mother? The course of treatment of a patient suffering from a moderate depressive episode, somatization disorder and narcissistic neurosis structure is described. The treatment, which takes place over 300 sessions in an individual analytical setting, reveals deep-rooted conflicts of self-worth and a strong dependence on the approval of others. Through the therapeutic work, the patient succeeds in recognizing and working through his inner conflicts, which helps him to better understand and shape himself and his relationships with others. While the division between the people and the elite created by populism is typically understood within a national framework, the aim of this article is to analyse how the understanding of the people and the elite is constructed by the use of interwoven scales. By focusing on the scalar politics of the Spanish party Vox, the discursive articulation of space through scales are analysed. By means of a qualitative discourse analysis of six Twitter (now X) accounts of the most prominent leaders, we argue that the use of political spaces is strictly connected to the party’s broader political narrative. Concretely, the analysis of the spatial imaginaries evoked by Vox on Twitter shows the importance of different scales – local, regional, national and global – to organize its populist antagonism spatially. In so doing, this paper makes a contribution to the literature on ‘scalar politics’ of radical right parties, which has recently focused on different geographical constituencies. We argue that the national scale maintains its predominance in opposition to the global scale (dominated by the cosmopolitan elites), the regional one (where separatism represents a threat against Spain's unity), the local scale which is nationalized against migrants and people who do not feel as Spaniards. In hereby republished chapter from Biljana Tanurovska-Kjulavkovski's book*, the work of the nongovernmental organisations in North Macedonia in relation to the public space will be observed. Space(s) will be regarded as environments where established processes are realised or actions are effectuated – made visible. In the past (the period between 2000 and 2010) I identified two strategies of development of organisations in the independent sector: 1. creation of new spaces, and 2. creation of temporary platforms within institutions. In the second year of his first term, the mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković promised that the price of a square metre in Ljubljana would fall to 1,800 euros at the end of his mayoralty. In his seventeenth year, he points to the rise in the value of apartments on Trubarjeva Street to 5,000 euros per square metre as an achievement. The present qualitative analysis of the communication of the Municipality of Ljubljana reveals a huge gap between the promises it has been feeding its citizens for decades and the actual results of the capital's servile capitalist management policies. The municipality's leaky propaganda machine usually works flawlessly and effectively deflects even the most valid criticism. On the subject of the gentrification of Ljubljana, which has been a burning issue in the media for months and which more and more citizens are experiencing first-hand on a daily basis, even the city's most efficient PR team is unable to offer any reassuring answers. In 2012, three members of staff were recruited by the University of Strathclyde to sit in a room and talk to students. That was the whole of the plan. That is not how this story ends. The talking was supposed to ‘help’ students to do things ‘right’. That is not what we spoke about. That year, the student-facing part of the Centre for Academic Practice and Learning Enhancement (CAPLE) established in 1987, which at its height consisted of six permanent academics with varied research interests within the, then emergent, field of Learning Development (LD), was replaced by a generic Study Skills Service, staffed by LD practitioners with a considerable collective experience and who shared a vision that was more critical and looked to a more authentically (learning) developmental approach (Asher, 2024). In so doing, the university had created a service model which we would spend the next nine years dismantling (or, to be more accurate, redeveloping). What follows is our story. The story of how the Learner Development Service (LDS) came into being, and how the spaces and places we have inhabited (both hostile and hospitable) have shaped our practices (Gravett et al., 2023) and how, in June 2022, we took up residency in a dedicated LDS Centre designed by us for us. To date, we have occupied three physical locations and been positioned under three different university services. These spaces and places have defined what we could do but they have also informed the design of our current physical, virtual and conceptual environment, as this paper details. This session highlighted the need for Learning Development practitioner resilience and perseverance in difficult circumstances. It foregrounds the usefulness of initiating, developing, and nurturing productive and mutually rewarding professional relationships with academic departments, course leaders and individual academics in order to advance the growth of Learning Development provision in institutions.

The elements of space have an important role in the formation of thermal comfort within the urban space and the formation of a visual image of it. Therefore, the study aims to determine the elements of urban space and the effect of each element on thermal comfort and the formation of an appropriate thermal image for it using various practical experiments, in addition to studying the role of trees in thermal performance and creating a suitable climate for it and knowing the best raw materials for use within the urban space. This study relied on the use of the experimental method by conducting an experiment in the city of Alexandria (Muhammad Naguib Square) to find out the effect of the different materials used in the voids on their thermal performance. The experimental phase was carried out using Design builder, a simulation engine that uses Energy Plus, and many passive cooling solutions were tested in the reference building through testing the types of materials for glass and walls proposed to be used, through which appropriate thermal and visual comfort can be achieved in the urban space ,the cooling energy used in the reference building can be reduced by 60%. Furthermore, the study demonstrates the potential of the design options examined by calculating the amount of thermal comfort that each alternative might achieve.

Stand-up comedy in Kenya before COVID-19 relied on close proximity between comedians and their audiences. However, COVID-19 disrupted this arrangement and subverted the performance space of 'traditional theatre.' This article examines alternative comic spaces embraced by selected Kenyan stand-up comedians during COVID-19. The article seeks to answer two fundamental questions: (1) What was the nature of the alternative spaces where the stand-up comedians performed during COVID-19? (2) How did the alternative sites of comic performances redefine how stand-up comedians engage with their audiences? To answer these questions, we conducted research on major stand-up comedians on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Twitter to obtain primary data, which we analysed and interpreted drawing on theories of humour and of social performance. We argue that the comedians, motivated by the need to maintain the relevance of their work and their audiences, used the digital ecosystem and devised variant alternative comic spaces innovatively to push the threshold of poetics of comedic performances individually and collectively. During the first modern age, Europe bore witness to the rise of numerous curiosity cabinets that curated collections of natural samples from across the globe. The nature of the Americas held a significant place within these spaces, shaping the scientific endeavors of those who delved into the new epistemological challenges of natural history. Focusing on the case study of the Salvador cabinet, a collection formed and maintained by a long line of apothecaries from Barcelona, this article aims to analyze how a collection of americana was formed and the many meanings that this category could assume in the communication and networks that articulated it. By analyzing the private correspondence of Joan Salvador I Riera--third generation of the family--, the aim is to demonstrate the different places that American nature occupied in his activity and collection, as well as to understand the dynamics of its articulation. This article explores spatial, social and cultural boundaries in the hammams of the city of Marseille (France) based on the study of practices and representations of cleanliness, in relation to the spatial configurations of bathhouses and their location in the city. By adopting a conception of the frontier as a 'space' - physical or symbolic - where circulations and separations take place, I will question the way in which the hammams translate within them the boundaries of the society in which they are located. In this article, we take seriously where we teach mobilities from and why that matters. "Where from?" asks vital questions about how teaching and learning in mobilities are located in various traditions, spaces and bodies that shape knowledges co-produced in the classroom, application beyond it, and the future of the field more widely. Asking "where from?" helps identify how our mobilities pedagogies are situated and the perspectives they emphasize and those they overlook. In this article, we reflect on the creation and evolution of a mobilities course and confront its "where-ing" in four ways, exploring the disciplinary, institutional, positionality, and spatial influences on our pedagogies. The consumption of milk and milk products within the year in Kosovo is calculated to be over 175 kg per capita. The purpose of this research was to see the impact of the implementation of good work practices and the HACCP system in the prevention of crosscontamination with pathogenic microorganisms in work tools, spaces and personnel of milk processing industries. Samples for analysis were taken in two milk processing factories, factory A in the region of Prizren - without implemented HACCP system and factory B in the region of Fushë - with implemented HACCP system. A total of 80 samples, 40 samples for each industry, were taken and analyzed in the working tools, spaces and personnel of the factories. The samples were taken according to Codex Alimentarius and analyzed for hazardous microbes' presence according to ISO standards. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent sample t-test. From the results of the research, we conclude that in factory A - without the implementation of the HACCP system, 32.5% of the samples were positive with microorganisms such as: E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, Enterococcus spp., Klebsiella spp., and Citrobacter spp., whereas in factory B - with the implementation of the HACCP system, 6.8% of the samples were positive with microorganisms such as: Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, Enterococcus spp., and Citrobacter spp. Although the milk processing factory which has implemented good work practices and the HACCP system, significantly reduces pathogenic microorganisms such as: E. coli, Klebsiella spp. etc., in the work tools, spaces and personnel, it has not been possible to completely eliminate microorganisms within the technological process. Born in Montreal in 1984, Gabrielle Giasson-Dulude was first drawn to non-verbal theater, seeking to pinpoint the part of emotions and thoughts that is difficult to articulate. Then she started making sentences, in which she strives to hear the body’s silent impulses. She teaches literature at Cégep du Vieux Montréal. She published the poetry collection Portrait d’homme at Noroît in 2015. Her essay Les chants du mime (Noroît, 2017, 2022) was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award of Canada, and won the Prix Spirale Eva-Le-Grand and the Prix Contre-jour for literary essays. His third book, Entre les murs, des voix, was published by Remue-ménage in autumn 2023. This interview is a follow-up to this latest publication. It provides information on the places, practices, modalities, and issues involved in the performative writing and thinking of Giasson-Dulude who sees “art as reparation” for oneself and for others. This article aims to present reflections about the analysis of the curricular relationship between the structural elements of teaching with babies and the materialities present in the planning of teachers of the Municipal Education Network of Florianópolis, based on a research at the Master's level in the Municipal Centers of Early Childhood Education. The sources are the official and legal documents that guide the care and education of babies, very young children and young children. And as a theoretical support, it is anchored in the production that focuses on the specificity of teaching with babies, the organization of spaces, environments and materialities in and for Early Childhood Education. The study affirms the importance and curricular meaning of the materialities arranged to babies in the organization of pedagogical work.

The present article proposes to focus on the reception of dystopian literature and the way in which the Romanian public resonated with it, paying particular attention to the translations of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. The article will discuss Atwood’s emphasis on borders, both literal and figurative, the combination of characters, cultures and languages that come to life as a result of those borders being transgressed and the translation limitations that such a text imposes.

In the face of globalization and diversity in the United Arab Emirates, the post-oil generation of Emiratis face unique challenges in navigating their cultural and national identities. Previously published research and scholarly works have engaged in complex discourse around Emirati identities, describing them as a population with similar genealogical backgrounds, ancestry, history, and cultural values. However, the element of heterogeneity among Emiratis remains highly under-examined. This research paper will examine the experiences of Emiratis with dual identities in the UAE, investigating their perceptions, attitudes, and narratives on being labeled as the "other" by their compatriots; exploring the spaces where hybrid Emiratis, locally known as "halfies", choose to reveal and conceal their multiplicity. In order to examine this complex socio-cultural phenomenon, semi-structured interviews with twenty Emiratis with twin identities were employed for this empirical study. The examination of the interviews uncovered the difficulties that individuals with mixed heritage encounter, as well as their strategies for overcoming these obstacles in order to find acceptance in a society that values a shared national identity. After experimenting the serial variations of micro-stories with Centuria, Manganelli moved away from the short-form option shared with authors such as Calvino, Parise, Wilcock and Malerba to undertake with Tutti gli errori (1986), his last collection of short stories, a reflection on literary genres and narrative conventions that is confirmed in the theoretical pages of the essay Che cosa non è un racconto, from the book Il rumore sottile della prosa (1994). The article proceeds to an analysis of the transformations that the structure of the impossible or erroneous tale inflicts on classic motifs of Manganelli’s imagery such as the infernal journey, asymmetrical love, the haunted mansion, and the descendent nature of man.

Interfaces, interactions, and time are commonly understood as foundational constructs in the field of organizational frontlines, but their current definitions are fragmented and disconnected. We propose a set of propositions drawn from theorizing the foundational constructs to facilitate systematic studies of frontline phenomena and promote integration across studies. We also advance the concept of the frontline nexus, a constellation of relations that interconnect the foundational constructs, and propose that the nexus is the appropriate unit of analysis for the study of organizational frontlines. To specify a system that embeds the frontline nexus and situates its foundational constructs, we discuss the role of agency, technology, learning, and privacy as key structural characteristics. In response to changing frontlines, we offer 11 propositions to advance research and practice of organizational frontlines. These propositions encourage researchers to explore the potential of new technologies, investigate the role of frontline actors in shaping interaction outcomes, examine the impact of learning and development initiatives, and consider the ethical implications of frontline actions. The paper examines the ways in which preschool children represent the spaces of their daily lives. It is based on the analysis of photographs taken by pupils from two kindergartens located in non‐privileged neighbourhoods of Athens. The children photographed the spaces where they live and move, and talked about their photos. The analysis maps these spaces and explores the social parameters (social class, ethnicity) that shape the children's relationship with private and public space. Thus, photographs become tools that provide a deeper understanding of the children's social worlds and highlight the importance of the social spaces where their practices and experiences are shaped. The essay offers a new reading of the photographic frontispieces produced by Alvin Langdon Coburn for the New York Editon of Henry James's novels and tales published between 1907 and 1909. This reading is grounded in three main moves. First, taking as a starting point the overall project of the New York Edition and the multiple textual layers with which the images interact in the material support (not only the literary texts, but also the prefaces that James specifically wrote for the edition, and even the captions that accompany each of the images). Second, considering the frontispieces as a series of images related to one another and to several texts at the same time, in an intersectional pattern that goes beyond the mere one-to-one association. Starting with Warsaw themes in the works of Pablopavo (Paweł Sołtys) - which have dominated previous research papers - the article signalizes their role in describing not only the rapidly changing city itself, but also its inhabitant's sense of inadequacy. Most of all, the analysis of the songs from different albums, from Telehon (2009) to Mozaika (2022), and from different musical projects (Pablopavo solo, the band Pablopavo i Ludziki, Pablopavo recording with Naprawdę Duży Zespół, with Praczas or with Praczas and Anna Iwanek) deals with motifs not discussed before, e.g. the vision of home, that can be a shield against the evil world, but can have the dark side or be used as a way to show the duality of the human mind. The metaphors created by Pablopavo are also interpreted in the article: the conceptual metaphors, as the versions of the structural metaphor LIFE IS A JOURNEY (a turn, an elevator, a railway station, a map), the orientational metaphors (mixing the dimensions) and the metaphors that blend space and time. The reflections profiled this way reveal the potential of these topics and figures in straightening out the mind and the memories, as well as in identifying the human position in space - the space understood more in terms of existence as space. With the rapid importance of high-performance energy modeling of buildings, whole-building energy simulation engines are rapidly used in the decision-making process. However, there are tens of engines in the market, which makes the choice of design engine very challenging. This article provides a comparison of the applications of whole-building energy simulation to predict a significant number of systems. As a result, the selected engines will be compared to establish their characteristics and abilities. Nevertheless, the focus will be placed on: generic criteria; envelope; lighting; service hot water; Heating-ventilation; and renewable systems. The essay offers a new reading of the photographic frontispieces produced by Alvin Langdon Coburn for the New York Editon of Henry James’s novels and tales published between 1907 and 1909. This reading is grounded in three main moves. First, taking as a starting point the overall project of the New York Edition and the multiple textual layers with which the images interact in the material support (not only the literary texts, but also the prefaces that James specifically wrote for the edition, and even the captions that accompany each of the images). Second, considering the frontispieces as a series of images related to one another and to several texts at the same time, in an intersectional pattern that goes beyond the mere one-to-one association. Third, situating the frontispieces in the context of James’s spatial imagination, the uses of photography in late nineteenth-century visual culture, and literary tourism. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of interactive design of waiting rooms in private hospitals, both functionally and aesthetically. The study raises the question of whether interactive design plays an effective role in the interior design of hospital waiting rooms and their mechanisms of operation. The study uses a descriptive design for private waiting rooms in Al-Ahly International Hospital in Baghdad. Results showed that adopting interactive design provides the highest level solutions for unexpected future situations, such as fires, electrical protection, and power outages in the model. Results also showed that adopting interactive design achieved the basic function of the space, which is waiting, but it was not achieved in terms of isolation from other hospital spaces and the external environment. The article presents the methodological approaches that are the basis for updating the geography curriculum of Lithuanian secondary schools/upper secondary (grades 11-12) and gymnasiums (grades III-IV). The aim is to answer the question: how to substantiate and systematically link the trends of geography science and development of didactics, based on the international and Lithuanian educational documents defining today's geographical education? Lithuanian educational and international (charters, declarations) documents are analyzed, which define the modern trends of curriculum renewal and geographical education. The historical development and perspective of geography and its didactics (school geography) are compared. The aim of this paper is to show how the real spaces of history and war are transformed into symbolic ones by means of artistic media in the poetry collection My Rivers by Faruk Šehić. In spatial and temporal dynamics, Faruk Šehić questions the topic of wars of the 20th century - from the First and Second World War to the war in the period from 1992 to 1995 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the poetic feeling of the world, woven into the songs of the narrative form, the lyrical subject speaks with the voice of an individual who is aware of the layers of historical experience, identifying with the figures of the lost generation and spatially fixating on three geographical points, the European rivers - Loire, Spree and Drina. The self-revelation of God through His Manifested Presence occurred in a variety of natural, cultural and historical spaces. This manifested in the liturgical communion of His people during public worship events, which in the Old Testament took place in the Tabernacle and the Temple. In the New Testament the role of the Temple changed, and the Church as God's community became the space where believers experienced spirituality. The historical development of the Church was supported by spaces that were created for spiritual experience and liturgy. In these spaces, spirituality was aided by liturgical activities, music, art, education and other aesthetic symbols. With the dawning of the 21st century the world has changed drastically. The Pentecostal experience after Azusa street gave emphasis to the spreading of the gospel into a variety of missionary and apostolic spaces. There are several types of spaces in Rushdie's fictional universe. We can talk about private spaces (such as houses, rooms, corridors or hiding places) vs. public ones, about inner worlds vs. outer ones, cities, spaces of art, seas of stories a.s.o. This article analyzes the relationships between mobility, care, and gender through the concept of “landscapes of care”. To this end, the theoretical contributions of feminist geographies of care and the theoretical tradition of the social construction of the landscape are taken up. The objective of the article is to understand the spatial-temporal dimensions that make up such landscapes and their impact on women’s urban lives. The methodological strategy is mixed, as it puts in dialogue qualitative and quantitative research techniques, a mobility survey, and mobile ethnographies with women in their daily movements. The study context was three Modal Transfer Centers in Mexico City. The main conclusions show how caregiving practices can be present in the daily journeys of women living in the Mexican capital and that transportation territories and infrastructures can be understood as spaces for caregiving that shape the experiences of caregiving on the move. In this sense, investigating landscapes of care entails making visible realities that otherwise go unnoticed, as these landscapes are present in daily journeys – principally of women – through the city, though other inhabitants may not be aware of them or observe them directly.

This research aims to analyze the dynamics of space in Moniza Alvi’s seven poems taken from her collection The Country at my Shoulder (1993) to explore how spatial anxiety and dislocated geographical and cultural concerns become prominent in her poems through different spaces. Through the framework of spatiality discussed by Gaston Bachelard, Henri Lefebvre and Benjamin N. Vis, it highlights the collision of two diverse cultures and value systems in Alvi’s poems to bring forth her transcultural quests, which display the influence of geographical perplexity on postmodern literature. First, the representative architectural spaces, such as rooms and buildings are explored and discussed in the context of Alvi’s native culture. Second, social and filial spaces are traced in the city space and ties respectively to unearth their influence on the poet’s existence. Third, diasporic spaces are analyzed through the contrast of oriental and occidental psyches to determine the poet’s vacillation between dual cultures. Fourth, geological and body spaces are interpreted through the metaphor of displaced geography to highlight the angst of dislocation. An exploration of these spaces suggests that Alvi’s poetry proves to be a trans-spatial landscape that reflects the general restlessness of the 21st century due to postmodern spatial crisis, and the dilemma of migration. In the face of globalization and diversity in the United Arab Emirates, the post-oil generation of Emiratis face unique challenges in navigating their cultural and national identities. Previously published research and scholarly works have engaged in complex discourse around Emirati identities, describing them as a population with similar genealogical backgrounds, ancestry, history, and cultural values. However, the element of heterogeneity among Emiratis remains highly under-examined. This research paper will examine the experiences of Emiratis with dual identities in the UAE, investigating their perceptions, attitudes, and narratives on being labeled as the “other” by their compatriots; exploring the spaces where hybrid Emiratis, locally known as “halfies”, choose to reveal and conceal their multiplicity. In order to examine this complex socio-cultural phenomenon, semi-structured interviews with twenty Emiratis with twin identities were employed for this empirical study. The examination of the interviews uncovered the difficulties that individuals with mixed heritage encounter, as well as their strategies for overcoming these obstacles in order to find acceptance in a society that values a shared national identity. The research findings contribute to the scholarship of Emirati identity construction.
