Childhood lead poisoning is a serious problem and source of conflict in older cities in the United States. Each year, thousands of children are diagnosed with this disease, for which there is no known cure. We examine the extent to which citizen groups can connect successfully with powerful economic and political actors to reduce childhood lead poisoning, from the perspectives of poverty and power, urban social movements, and neighborhood organization and action. As a case in point, we focus on New York City's battle to solve the problem of childhood lead poisoning. We find that the anti-lead paint coalitions have become a vital urban social movement working on behalf of child well-being and that it is possible for citizen and public interest groups to achieve success when dealing with business, property, and government interests in the matter of childhood lead poisoning. The purpose of this paper is to ascertain the relative effects of neighboring and residential satisfaction on the psychological well-being of urban elders. It also examines these relationships within the context of the elders' personal resources-socioeconomic status, health, and mobility. The data were obtained from a random digit-dial sample of 254 noninstitutionalized urban elders living in the Columbus, Ohio, metropolitan area. Based on a structural equation analysis using Sender's EQS. the findings show limited support for the neighborhood effects. However, these effects did not hold up when personal resources were included in the model. Thus it is concluded that the relationship between residential satisfaction and psychological well-being is an artifact of their mutual relationship with personal resources. People with health, money, and mobility have high psychological well-being, and they also have the resources to assure themselves of a favorable residence - one in which they feel safe, are satisfied with the physical condition of the place, have solid housing that meets their needs, and are as close as they desire to things, institutions, and people that matter to them. The article discusses the measurement of positive attitude toward science. The development of healthy, positive attitude regarding the scientific enterprise and its practitioners is one of the major responsibilities of science educators at all levels. Central to this task of attitude education is identification and description of the nature of the attitudes to be instilled and the development of instruments with which attitudes may be assessed. The Science Support Scale was designed to assess the extent to which respondents feel positively or negatively toward value dimensions such as rationality, utilitarianism, universalism, individualism and a belief in progress and meliorism.

The article presents a study which aims to ascertain what personal and professional characteristics are related to elementary attitudes toward science and the scientific institution. The Schwirian Science Support Scale was administered to elementary teachers and analysis of variance was used to analyze the data. Personal characteristics were examined including age and religious preference while professional characteristics include the highest academic degree held, semester hours of college science, type of undergraduate institution attended, and others. There was found a positive association between number of hours in science and positive science attitudes.

Topics discussed include the users opinions regarding the helpfulness of terminology in actual clinical practice, how a specific terminology was helpful to the participants and the development of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association - International to allow nurses identify and classify health problems within nursing.
