The green and socially responsible business, in the context of environment and resource protection, improving the quality of life for workers and employees at the corporate level and of the society as a whole, and oriented towards sustainable economic development, finds expression in the full integration of economic, environmental and social commitments of companies in the course of their business activities, in their interactions with the environment, and in their relationships with personnel, contractors and society. The thesis defended is that environmental protection and the implementation of socially responsible practices by companies can be successfully achieved with an effective management system that is tailored to the specific nature of the business and the best practices in the field, and with the support of an environmentally and socially responsible leader. The results of the study find an expression in revealing the process of transformation: "traditional business model - green and socially responsible business", highlighting the importance of turning companies into green and socially significant organizations with a good reputation. The formation and manifestation of counter-elites in totalitarian regimes emerged as a topic of scientific interest especially after the Second World War. Yet, the specificities of the formation of counter-elites in totalitarian states in conjunction with the decolonization processes, as they have manifested in the Baltic states or in the Republic of Moldova, have attracted comparatively less attention. This article aims to analyze the process of genesis of counter-elites and the transformations incurred within the elites in Soviet Estonia in the process of regaining the independence. The article relate to the Soviet elites with reformist views who designed „Economically Autonomous Estonia” and the counter-elites animated by the desire of national rebirth and total split from the Soviet past gathered around the Estonian Heritage Society, which represented two – of course, among the most important - of the numerous circles, groups, organizations that emerged in Estonia as a result of the new ideological thaw started by Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. This article undertakes an analysis of the historical and juridical argumentation brought to the fore by the Finnish experts in the case of the Finnish-Swedish litigation regarding the fate of the Åland Islands (1919-1920) and compares it to the position of the Aaland Commission of Jurists. The empiric study uses the English language materials published in 1919-1920 by Finnish prominent historians and jurists as well as official papers elaborated by the Aaland Commission of Jurists. One of the key findings of this article is that although the conception regarding the sovereignty and domestic jurisdiction was shared in by both the Finnish and international experts, the Commission's views (based mostly on one of its members, Max Huber's thinking) about the sociological basis of the international law as embodied in the concept of "transitional situation" to describe the situation of a new state emerging on the international arena generated heated debates and a swift reply from the part of Finnish historians and jurists. A foreword to the August 2011 issue of the "Romanian Journal for Baltic & Nordic Studies" is presented.

This paper investigates the role of the Nansen office in the hugely difficult task of repatriating the POWs from a Russia marred by the immense destructions caused by the Great War, the Civil War and the Bolshevik regime. The article focuses on the safeguarding of the life of at least 18,000 Romanians by the Nansen office, especially through the Baltic Sea "avenue". The wavering relations between the Nansen office and the Romanian Government that has refused to allow the opening of a new salvation route for the POWs through the Danube and has postponed for long the application for funds thus creating big troubles to the former is also approached. The article concludes that the survivors of this ordeal have been taught the best lessen about multi-ethnicity, tolerance, compassion and humanitarianism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article aims at re-evaluating in the light of recent archival findings and novel historiographic interpretations the consequences of the Ribbentrop- Molotov Pact - seven decades after its signature - on one of the most seriously affected states by the compromise between the two totalitarian states, Finland. The article approaches Helsinki's choices and politics in this respect from the perspective of Finnish meaning of space and definition of spirituality which, once anchored in public conscience, will play a fundamental role during the interwar and Winter War (Talvisota) period. One of the conclusions of this work is that by their political, territorial and demographic consequences, the Soviet politics with regard to Finland are an example of consequences running contrary to the initial intentions and expectations of a Great Power that gives the impulses in the international relations. Instead of getting extra-security in the Eastern Baltic, the result was the eventual joining of the Finnish Army to the Wehrmacht attack against Soviet Union. The undesirable result of Russian politics in the nineteenth century, the Finnish concept of space has played an important role in the resistance of the Finnish nation when confronting the Soviet political and territorial claims. This paper analyzes the Finnish diplomacy and media have perceived Romania's attempts to extricate herself from the war on Nazi Germany's side. The significance of such a research rests with the fact that, as Romania, Finland also envisaged a way to withdraw from war and any Romanian step taken to that effect, as the paper demonstrates, was attentively monitored by Finnish decision-makers. Moreover, according to an agreement the two countries had concluded back in July 1941, they exchanged information about sensitive issues regarding their foreign and security policies and therefore the quality of knowledge of each other's intentions was valuable. The article focuses on the reflections of Finnish envoy Karl Gustaf Idman regarding the perceptions, mindsets, and stereotypes on the Romanian corruption. It says that lack of honesty among officials and their corruptibility were found within the politics of Romania. It states that Idman views that the domestic situation in Romania cannot be considered as satisfactory, if it will be judged by public perception. It adds that corruption in Romania lies within its justice system and courts.

The article discusses the key factors in the Finnish-Romanian relation-building during World War II. It regarded the levels of individuals, particularly in respect to Marshal Gustav Mannerheim and the role of Marshal Ion Antonescu in the enhancement of relationship between the states from 1941 to 1944. It mentions that the outcome of the analysis is sampled to the systematic level of analysis.

The article focuses on the alliance of Romania with France and its connection to the French culture and language. It highlights Iulian Oncescu's monograph investigating the role of France in the modernization of Romania, the position of Romania in the French eastern policy and the foreign policy of the third French republic. Oncescu's work proved that feelings are useful but never enough to construct foreign policy in fragile basis.
