The Co[Fe.sub.2][O.sub.4]-BaTi[O.sub.3] core-shell structure composite has been successfully synthesized by wet chemical method. X-ray characterization showed that the composite consisted of two single phases: Co[Fe.sub.2][O.sub.4] and BaTi[O.sub.3]. The saturation magnetization of the Co[Fe.sub.2][O.sub.4] component in composite was found to be similar to those of the bulk sample. It was observed that the longitudinal and transverse magnetoelectric coefficients of the core-shell structure are 18 times higher than those of the mixed structure. Hysteresis loops and magnetostriction were measured on ring-shaped Fe85Ga15 samples. The samples were annealed at T=980^\circC for 100 h and cooled from annealing temperature in two different ways: one was slowly cooled in an oven and the other one was quenched in cold water. X-ray diffraction results showed a strong texture in these samples, which is dependent on the cooling process. The anisotropy energy and magnetostriction of the samples were calculated based on these determined textures. These results agree qualitatively with magnetization and magnetostriction experiments and support the thermal history influence on the magnetostriction values. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The magnetic properties of polycrystalline Fe56.7Ni10Si33.3 were investigated. For this purpose, frequency-dependent hysteresis loops, minor loops, and losses were determined. The coercivity and the losses measured under sinusoidal and triangular conditions increase strongly with the frequency, whereas under constant dB/dt conditions, they are nearly frequency independent. The minor loops as measured under constant dB/dt are also nearly frequency independent. The magnetostriction of Fe56.7Ni10Si33.3 is rather small, as typical for a 3d-based alloy. New ferromagnetic shape memory alloys have been developed by means of melt spinning technique. The alloys are multi-functional materials, which have both ferromagnetic property and shape memory property. In order to append the ferromagnetic function of nonmagnetic Fe-Mn-Cr alloys, we have selected neodymium as an addition element. The magnetic properties of the alloys are improved by adding neodymium, however the shape memory properties are deteriorated at the same time. Also the Curie temperature shows increasing tendency in proportion to the neodymium contentes. After many trials and measurements, we have sought out an alloy consisting of Fe-26%Mn-10%Cr-5%Si-0.7%Nd-0.2%B [wt%], which has good ferromagnetic and shape memory property. In this paper, the suitable heat treatment is made clear in measurements to raise the saturation magnetization in preserving the perfect shape memory recovery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
