Accumulation of vimentin is the core event in epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT). Post‐translational modifications have been widely reported to play crucial roles in imparting different properties and functions to vimentin. Here, a novel modification of vimentin, acetylated at Lys104 (vimentin‐K104Ac) is identified, which is stable in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cells. Mechanistically, NACHT, LRR, and PYD domain‐containing protein 11 (NLRP11), a regulator of the inflammatory response, bind to vimentin and promote vimentin‐K104Ac expression, which is highly expressed in the early stages of LUAD and frequently appears in vimentin‐positive LUAD tissues. In addition, it is observed that an acetyltransferase, lysine acetyltransferase 7 (KAT7), which binds to NLRP11 and vimentin, directly mediates the acetylation of vimentin at Lys104 and that the cytoplasmic localization of KAT7 can be induced by NLRP11. Malignant promotion mediated by transfection with vimentin‐K104Q is noticeably greater than that mediated by transfection with vimentin‐WT. Further, suppressing the effects of NLRP11 and KAT7 on vimentin noticeably inhibited the malignant behavior of vimentin‐positive LUAD in vivo and in vitro. In summary, these findings have established a relationship between inflammation and EMT, which is reflected via KAT7‐mediated acetylation of vimentin at Lys104 dependent on NLRP11. Background: Life-and-death education is intimately related to palliative-and-hospice care. It should be implemented among groups of all ages, especially for the elderly. This study aims to establish expert consensus on a set of scientific and systematic life-and-death education contents for the elderly and provide reference for the practice on the elderly.Methods: This study designed three rounds of expert consultation by using a Delphi method. A panel of 22 experts from the fields of palliative-and-hospice care, life-and-death education, geriatric nursing, humanities and ethics, and geriatric psychology participated in the study.Results: This study finally reached expert consensus on the contents of life-and-death education for the elderly, containing 4 first-level items, Life-and-death literacy promotion in the elderly; Life-and-death concept establishment of the elderly; Life-and-death planning of the elderly; Life-and-death thoughts of the elderly with affiliated 9 second-level items, and corresponding 23 detailed third-level items.Conclusions: The life-and-death education contents for the elderly offer a basis for publicity for health professionals, promote dialogues on death, preparation, and planning for death and dying. The life-and-death education contents system was clear in coherence containing definite and comprehensive contents, which enriched life-and-death education resources globally. We studied both central conducting airway response and changes in the distribution of regional ventilation induced by inhaled histamine in healthy anesthetized and mechanically ventilated rabbit using a novel xenon- enhanced synchrotron radiation computed tomography (CT) imaging technique, K-edge subtraction imaging (KES). Images of specific ventilation were obtained using serial KES during xenon washin, in three axial lung slices, at baseline and twice after inhalation of histamine aerosol (50 or 125 mg/ml) in two groups of animals (n = 6 each). Histamine inhalation caused large clustered areas of poor ventilation, characterized by a drop in average specific ventilation (sVm), but an increase in sVm in the remaining lung zones indicating ventilation redistribution. Ventilation heterogeneity, estimated as co- efficient of variation (CV) of sVm significantly increased following histamine inhalation. The area of ventilation defects and CV were significantly larger with the higher histamine dose. In conducting airways, histamine inhalation caused a heterogeneous airway response. combining narrowing and dilatation in individual airways of different generations, with the probability for constriction increasing peripherally. This finding provides further in vivo evidence that airway reactivity in response to inhaled histamine is complex and that airway response may vary substantially with location within the bronchial tree.
