This article examines the ways in which interdisciplinary small groups were used in a school setting in order to drive students' joyful engagement and literacy instruction. Drawing from the work of Dr. Gholdy Muhammad in Cultivating Genius (2020) and Unearthing Joy (2023) we designed and implemented a summer program built around bolstering foundational literacy skills, with an intentional focus on helping students experience joy and making each and every child feel special. In keeping true to the work of Dr. Muhammad, we designed learning opportunities to develop students' intellect, skills, and criticality, and grounded those competencies in their identity. The program design--including structured small groups, texts chosen to empower and resonate with our specific population of students, multiple opportunities to connect with the same texts--fostered an experience in which students were immersed in literacy in an authentic and meaningful way. Throughout this article we discuss how we implemented this work with rising first through third graders in a collaborative effort with the Netter Center and Penn GSE and share teacher feedback as well as student data. Mendelian randomization (MR) addresses causal questions using genetic variants as instrumental variables. We propose a new MR method, G-Estimation under No Interaction with Unmeasured Selection (GENIUS)-MAny Weak Invalid IV, which simultaneously addresses the 2 salient challenges in MR: many weak instruments and widespread horizontal pleiotropy. Similar to MR-GENIUS, we use heteroscedasticity of the exposure to identify the treatment effect. We derive influence functions of the treatment effect, and then we construct a continuous updating estimator and establish its asymptotic properties under a many weak invalid instruments asymptotic regime by developing novel semiparametric theory. We also provide a measure of weak identification, an overidentification test, and a graphical diagnostic tool. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tanburi Cemil Bey is considered one of the greatest geniuses who grew up in the classical Turkish music tradition. However, his place in the history of national culture cannot be understood only through his actions and works in the musical field. To accurately determine his position, the conceptual apparatus of a comparative and multidimensional perspective is needed. For this reason, this study discusses the concept of genius attributed to Cemil Bey and investigates the possibilities of evaluating him as a form of historical subjectivity through the structure-agency tension in sociology. While doing this, the concept of melancholy, which has accompanied genius since ancient times, is also included in the analysis. These concepts have a deeprooted unity that frames the medical, epistemological and philosophical norms of the Western tradition of thought. The closeness between these two concepts, which were mainly established on a medical and philosophical level in ancient Greek thought, is discussed in a wide range of symbols within the framework of the Saturn myth in Renaissance cosmology. By revising the ancient belief that the planets have a certain influence on the character and moral qualities of people, the personification of the melancholic genius is added to the myth of Saturn in the astrological context of Renaissance cosmology. Thus, it paves the way for the maturation of a separate poetic experience of melancholy that focuses on the existential dimension of melancholy as well as its physical symptoms. Romanticism intensifies the perception of melancholy as a sign of selfreflexivity that allows contemplation on the deepest aspects of existence and often symbolizes creative genius. It creates a context in which Cemil Bey can be read, like C. Baudelaire and W. Benjamin, who see themselves as residents of this unique field of subjectivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INDIANS (Asians) ,INDIAN women (Asians) ,CASTE ,BETTERMENTS ,GENIUS - Abstract
India is a country of vast diversity, immersed in various traditional institutions that pose a challenge for the country. Though all cultures with time are open for transitions, yet some rigid norms do not let the time govern itself. Every society, religion, region, class continuously strive to emerge, without even noticing the same need for the female folks. Resultantly, Indian women have always faced the societal oppressions in multi-dimensional ways, this class, undoubtedly, is a part of the marginalized India. The society is further partitioned on the basis of caste, creed, and sex. In the light of new free India, the paper intends to depict the pitiable condition of the Dalit women in free India with special reference to Meena Kandasamy's poetic excellence in The Touch and Ms. Militancy. She has effectively been the spokeswoman for her sex in dalit society. She has not left any stone unturned to bring in the changes in the lives of the marginalized class of the society through her works. Her portrayal of the lower strata is an eye opener for the so-called civilized country. Meena writes for a magical transformation with in the country that can only be possible in the "dreams of our India". She discusses the plight of the women and reasons behind the unjust treatment given to them. Meena cleverly uses her literary genius to explore the darker side of society for the betterment of dalit. The paper is an attempt to study the writings of dalit female writers for better understanding of the marginalized section's universal sufferings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SACRED vocal music ,SACRED music ,CHURCH music ,GENIUS ,CONCORD - Abstract
This article examines the stylistic influences shaping Mozart's sacred music, offering an in-depth analysis of its evolution. It identifies two distinct styles: the Salzburgian and contemporary approaches. The Salzburgian style is defined by brevity, counterpoint, and tonal unity, adhering to traditional liturgical requirements. Meanwhile, the contemporary style reflects the influence of secular music, with larger structures, concertante melodies, and thematic contrasts drawn from symphonic and operatic works. A comparison between Mozart's two Lauretian litanies, Litaniae Lauretanae KV 109 and KV 195, illustrates his compositional development. The earlier litany demonstrates simplicity and compactness, while the later piece shows increased complexity, operatic influence, and a more intricate orchestral role. The analysis highlights how Mozart blended sacred music's formal rigor with expressive elements from operatic and instrumental traditions, creating a distinctive style that paved the way for future innovations in liturgical music. By drawing from contrapuntal traditions and integrating operatic expressiveness, Mozart's sacred works reflect his genius in synthesizing diverse influences into a cohesive and innovative musical language. Cultural heritage gives places meaning and an atmosphere called genius loci based on tangible and intangible values. Nowadays, we can observe a commercial and consumerist approach to the spirit of place: it is used as a promotional tool and a tourism product, reduced to a cliché satisfying popular consumers tastes. The aim of this study is to identify the values which determine the identity of a place and the dangers they face, trying to answer the question: how can genius loci be protected? We analyse the problem based on the example of selected open-air museums at defensive castles in Poland's Jurassic Belt. These museums have become a field of commercial entertainment and fallen victim to irreversible transformations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Throughout his academic and pontifical teachings, Karol Wojtyla/John Paul II’s reference to the three transcendentals –the verum, the bonum, and the pulchrum– has been constant. This article exposes the thought of Pope Wojtyla regarding beauty from a triple perspective: first, beauty as splendor, both of the glory of God and of truth and goodness. Second, beauty as a gift or participation, manifested in the case of creative genius and human love. Finally, and as a synthesis of the previous two, beauty as a way to delve into the mystery of man, the world and God (the via pulchritudinis). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Chinese academia's old friend, the world's leading scholar of avant-garde poetry, Marjorie Perloff died on March 24. Perloff was celebrated for her ability to explain difficult experimental poetry. This ability is seen in her early work on Yeats, middle works on 20
th -century modernist movements as well as in her last books, 21st -Century Modernism: (2002), Unoriginal Genius (2010) and Infrathin (2021), comparing the new century's experimental poetry with early modernism. This paper, focused on the books of her later years, demonstrates her responses to the 21st -Century modernism and foregrounding the ideas and legacy in poetics of her later years, and reveals one of her major ideas that modernism is back in the forms of Eliot's verbivocalvisual complex and Duchamp's ready-mades, delays in glass, and the infrathin. This article reveals some secrets hidden behind this ancestral hydro-agricultural development which has been operating for more than 30 centuries. During the period 1992-2024, several missions were carried out in the foggaras oases. Investigations and surveys were carried out among the owners of the foggaras and the Ksourian population. The results obtained show that the know-how acquired on foggaras is immense. For the first time, new notions about foggaras have been introduced into the technical bibliography. This is how in Algeria, there are two types of foggaras: volumetric and hourly. Part 2 of this article highlighted the diversity of the foggara. Eight (8) models of foggaras have been highlighted in the Algerian Sahara. These are the Tademaït foggara, the Erg foggara, the garden foggara, the wadi foggara, the Ouakda foggara, the Kenadsa foggara, the Ain foggara and the Mzab foggara. An acquisition of significant know-how has given rise to a diversity of foggaras, thus justifying the originality of the Algerian foggara. A proof which demonstrates the greatness of the Know-how and the oasis genius. So, should we let a heritage of this magnitude die out in the short term? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the concept of "Greek genius" from various perspectives and its connection to economic success, education, and cultural stereotypes. The essays argue that the Greek genius is rooted in the resourcefulness of characters like Odysseus and Sinon, and that shipping and commerce played a crucial role in spreading Enlightenment ideas and fostering political emancipation in Greece. The volume also examines how other cultures perceived the Greek genius, with some focusing on negative stereotypes of Greeks as cunning and deceitful. The article discusses the evolution of the Greek genius concept over time and its impact on Greek national identity. The text also delves into the discourse surrounding Greek genius in late nineteenth-century public discussions and its prevalence in the interwar period. It concludes by discussing the instrumentalization of the Greek genius during the recent Greek economic crisis. The collection highlights the consistency of the core traits associated with Greek genius while also showing the varying interpretations of it. [Extracted from the article]

Ray Perman's book, "James Hutton: The Genius of Time," explores the life and work of James Hutton, the pioneer of the concept of "deep time" and the father of modern geology. The biography aims to shed light on Hutton's significance and place him among the polymaths of the Scottish Enlightenment. However, the book falls short in fully justifying Hutton's title as the "genius of time" and fails to provide a clear understanding of his theory and its weaknesses. Additionally, the book does not adequately address Hutton's religious beliefs and their impact on his views. Despite these shortcomings, the book serves as a useful roadmap to Hutton's theory and provides insights into his life and intellectual milieu. [Extracted from the article]

The identification of early-stage colorectal cancers (CRC) and the resection of pre-cancerous neoplastic lesions through colonoscopy allows to decrease both CRC incidence and mortality. However, colonoscopy miss rates up to 26% for adenomas and 9% for advanced adenomas have been reported. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) systems have been emerging as easy-to-use tools, potentially lowering the risk of missing lesions. This review paper focuses on GI Genius device (Medtronic Co. Minneapolis, MN, U.S.A.) a computer-assisted tool designed to assist endoscopists during standard white-light colonoscopies in detecting mucosal lesions. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) suggest that GI Genius is a safe and effective tool for improving adenoma detection, especially in CRC screening and surveillance colonoscopies. However, its impact seems to be less significant among experienced endoscopists and in real-world clinical scenarios compared to the controlled conditions of RCTs. Furthermore, it appears that GI Genius mainly enhances the detection of non-advanced, small polyps, but does not significantly impact the identification of advanced and difficult-to-detect adenoma. When using GI Genius, no complications were documented. Only a small number of studies reported an increased in withdrawal time or the removal of non-neoplastic lesions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this article is to show how Vincent van Gogh developed a theological reflection that is mainly present in his paintings with religious motifs. This reflection is the fruit of his religious experience, which combines his spirituality with a social commitment to the miners in Borinage, Belgium, which can be seen as an option for the poor avant la lettre in the 19th century. This experience, far from strengthening his institutional relationship, rather provoked a critical attitude towards the theological discourse of the ecclesial context in which he lived and led the aspiring pastor to become a genius in painting. His theological interpretation as a critical reader of the Bible can be translated into what will be called here a theological chromatology, to be identified through the intersection of letters and paintings of Vincent van Gogh. Given the influence of the Dutch painter genius on contemporary culture, the process through which his reflection on the religious and theological issue emerges can be seen as a significant element in understanding the present in post-secular societies. This article examines the life and work of Phillis Wheatley and her interlocutors to consider how African-descended people conceptualized liberty and formed an intellectual community during the American Revolution. Her poetry and epistolary exchanges, shared with a range of acquaintances in the Atlantic World, reveal an intellectual universe that she created for herself and one that drew her into the political spotlight. Leaders of the founding generation began to question the intellectual possibilities for an African girl in ways that held political implications for the future of slavery. I argue that Wheatley's life and work opens critical avenues for exploring intellectualism as an aspiration of Black life in early America, and that her world of ideas sheds light on the possibilities of Black girlhood in the late eighteenth century. The Egyptian novelist Najīb Maḥfūẓ has proved himself to be a genius author at incorporating a variety of academic and intercultural sources in his works. He uses many forms of Islam-related references, such as the Qur'anic and Prophetic ones, to convey his intended meanings. In the present study, we attempt to assess the translation of Qur'anic and prophetic intertextuality in Maḥfūẓ's "Cairo Trilogy" using the criteria proposed by Larson's Model(1984). This study follows a qualitative approach to analysis, i.e., the data is not in the form of numbers but in the form of texts. This study aims to discover the tactics utilized in translating Arabic Qur'anic and prophetic intertextuality into English, as well as to identify the obstacles faced by the subject translators and the reasons behind such challenges. The study concludes that irrespective of what method the translators adopt to translate Qur'anic and prophetic intertextuality, their religious and cultural background seriously influences the output of the translation process. 26. Understanding the Roles of Genius and Taste in the Production of Beauty: A Kantian Approach to Artistic Intention.

- Abstract
The intention of achieving objectives through art seemingly conflicts with Kant's tenet that judgments of taste should be devoid of conceptual determinations. According to Kant, beautiful art must be viewed as the product of genius, a rare gift of nature that operates through the work of aesthetic ideas. This prompts inquiries into the respective roles of genius and taste in the production of beautiful art. It has been proposed that genius is a mere concept, a universal capacity, or a collaborator with taste, but these accounts are found to be deficient. Drawing upon Kant's distinction between free beauty and adherent beauty, this paper demonstrates that genius is neither sufficient nor necessary to produce beautiful art. Furthermore, this paper investigates the significance of taste in artistic production, taking into consideration the autonomy and refinement of taste over time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dr. Georg Karl Felix Preiser was a German surgeon who specialized in orthopedic surgery, particularly trauma and joint diseases. He published several works, including a monograph on static joint diseases and articles on topics such as idiopathic juvenile osteoarthritis deformans coxae and tennis elbow. In 1910, Preiser described a new entity called "traumatic nutritional disorders of the short bones of the hand and foot," which he believed was caused by vascular and nutritional disorders in the bones. However, later analysis of his radiographs revealed that these cases were likely misinterpreted fractures of the scaphoid bone. Despite this misinterpretation, Preiser's work on the vascularization of carpal bones remains influential in understanding the healing of fractures and osteonecrosis. [Extracted from the article]

A political pamphlet entitled Calvino-praedicantium Ungarorum Genius malus (The Devil of the Hungarian Calvinist Preachers) was published in Vienna in 1620, without the author’s name being given. The 21-page work is one of the pieces of the pamphlet war of 1620 started by the also anonymously published Secretissima instructio. The Secretissima instructio, which served as the propaganda of Habsburgs against the Bohemian Revolt (1618–1620), is a travesty of the literary genre of the mirrors for princes. Its fictional narrative framework and ironic tone may have reminded Péter Alvinczi of Öt szép levél (1609) written by Péter Pázmány against him. In his conviction that the Instructio was also Pázmány’s work, Alvinczi wrote the Machiavellizatio as a response to this and repeatedly addressed the Archbishop of Esztergom on the title page of his book and in the work itself. Two responses to the Machivellizatio were written, Tamás Balásfi’s Castigatio and the anonymous Genius malus mentioned above. Alvinczi refuted only Balásfi’s pamphlet, the Genius malus remained unanswered. Looking through the opusculum, its text is reminiscent of Pázmány Péter’s earlier Latin-language treatises. The style of the work, its passionate tone, certain characteristic phrases, the special forms of address of the opponents, and the numerous neologisms remind us of Pázmány’s Peniculus papporum and its extended version, the Logi alogi. A closer reading of Genius malus also reveals further textual parallels with Pázmány’s Diatriba theologica (1605) and Vindiciae ecclesiasticae (1620), writings based on rational rather than emotional argumentation. As my research progressed, it became apparent that Pázmány’s authorship had already been suggested. Kálmán Révész, reformed bishop and church historian declared with absolute certainty that the pamphlet was the work of the Archbishop of Esztergom. However, Révész formulated this claim only incidentally, and since his article was essentially about the works of Péter Alvinczi, he did not provide any specific evidence to support Pázmány’s authorship. The present study undertakes to carry out this task. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer is in awe of physics and the power it can bestow. Its central character is both mythic and human, and the film critiques and constructs the mythology surrounding him. The film presents science and technology as the individualized work of masculine genius, though it is ultimately more interested in nuclear weapons as political objects than as technological ones. Its nuclear imaginaries contain personal anxieties and stunning spectacle but also forget the nuclear uncanny and the human scale of nuclear weapons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this essay, I consider whether it makes sense to say that our cognitive capacities—remembering, imagining, intending, hoping, expecting and so on—manifest as inner, subpersonal processes. Given whether something makes sense is a grammatical rather than theoretical or empirical issue, it cannot be explained but can only be better understood by describing and reflecting on situations in which it arises. As such, I approach this issue using the descriptive method of O.K. Bouwsma, which is a development of Wittgenstein's latter methodological approach of conceptually clarifying our bounds of sense. In the course of my investigation, I come to the realisation that cognitive capacities do not, as much psychology and cognitive science imply, make sense as inner, subpersonal processes. Instead, they make sense as personal capacities, which manifest in many ways of acting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Girls' initiation contributes to cultural representations in Western folk fairy tales. This study examines girls' initiation in three contemporary versions of "Little Red Riding Hood", Angela Carter's "The Company of Wolves" and "Wolf-Alice" (1979), and Märta Tikkanen's Rödluvan (Little Red Riding Hood, 1986), in relation to "The Story of Grandmother", popularized by Paul Delarue (1956). Combining fairy-tale research with Kristevan theories on subjectivity, the feminine, and the genius, it examines how initiation assigns to the girl in Delarue's tale a social identity and role as a woman and how the contemporary tales negotiate this through the heroines' wooing of werewolves. The findings, presented in both written and visual forms, show the reach of the heroines' feminine psychosexual maturity, here called the girl genius, in Carter's and Tikkanen's versions, representing an alternative to traditional assumptions of girls' psychosexuality within normative heterosexuality. From ancient times to the present day, the question of faith and unbelief has troubled all mankind, from the common man to his greatest geniuses. In expressing belief and/or non-belief, the notion of „atheist“ is frequently used, which has many different meanings. There are frequent cases in which, in a conversation, people use, each distinctly, the notion of „atheist“, (1) either with the most different meanings, (2) or with ambiguous, unclear meanings, and in one case and in another, reaching the situation of „talking together and understanding each other separately“. Despite decades of directed efforts gender equality is still a challenge in many university level STEM institutions. Key reasons for this are found in disciplinary and institutional cultures. A crucial cultural element is professional identity. In this article, an ethnographic study of a gender equality program in a technical university in Sweden underpins the identification of a professional identity that we name: the 'sole engineering genius'. This cultural figure displays features that run counter to measures promoting gender equality. As a component of engineering faculty's self-perception as well as views of others, this figure provides rationales for rejecting the changes required to end gender inequality. Against the backdrop of research literature, we argue that this professional identity is not a local or national phenomenon, but likely a key factor in academic engineering culture transnationally that may continue to undermine gender equality strategies in STEM institutions. In this work, framed in the research project "Positions of psychosis in social ground: symptoms, discourses, bonds" (UNLP, Buenos Aires, Argentina) we will present the case o "Ludwig Wittgenstein", considered one of the most important philosophers of the XXI century Methodologically, we build the case starting from the reading of his journals, letters and published works, adding a series of biographies. On one hand, we get to know how his work frames closely with the answers found by him to treat the melancholic feeling of life that he experienced. Different moments of his works articulate ways of taking a position in life and make the overwhelming dilemma bearable: to be a genius or to be a scum. In that fight with his "inner demons", he searched to isolate from everyone, being the bond with God the only one that he always kept. On the other hand, we set the conditions to explain the subversive impact on universitary discourse, in spite of Wittgenstein's own rejection of it. We develop this as an uncalculated effect that some psychotic positions have. We sustain, as an hypothesis, that the effectiveness of his solutions, with which he made life bearable, corresponds with the move from one initial asceticism position to a position coping with desire, including structure inconsistency. His impact on universitary discourse was necessary, although not enough to relieve his pain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Work on Stanley Cavell in contemporary political theory tends to foreground Cavell's reading of Emersonian moral perfectionism, but this aspect of Cavell's thought is often left out of feminist readings of his work. In this paper, I give an overview of Cavell's importance to political theory, and I also trace two Cavellian-inspired feminisms: Sandra Laugier's ordinary language inflected ethics of care and Toril Moi's understanding of feminist theory as the close and careful reading of examples. I argue that Cavellian-Emersonian moral perfectionism enhances these feminist readings of Cavell because it helps us explain certain practices in feminist activism, such as resisting conformity, acknowledging the limits of our understanding and being receptive to other members of our feminist community. In cities, public spaces are shaped by the encounters they make possible the historical memory and the uses and customs that propitiate their "symbolic appropriation" and the constitution of the genius loci. Political mobilizations appropriate public spaces, which are momentarily transformed into "political spaces" whose strength, character and symbolic weight are assimilated to projects of identity, capacity for mobilization and political action. In Mexico City, two cases of politization of the public space are the Ángel de la Independencia and the Estadio Azteca. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Novelty--the value of saying something new--appears to be a good-making feature of a philosophical contribution. Beyond this, however, novelty functions as a metric of success. This paper challenges the presumption and expectation that a successful philosophical contribution will be a novel one. As I show, the pursuit of novelty is neither as desirable nor as feasible as it might initially seem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MATERNAL mortality ,GENIUS ,POETS ,ART ,NOMADS - Abstract
Following renewed efforts to reclaim Loy's legacy and to contribute to an emerging archive of scholarship on her work, this article addresses the perplexing lack of attention to her poetry that was often lauded by iconic poets of her time. We focus on selected poems that took shape not only within the mélange of Loy's writings, visual design and art but also within the context of her fascinating and tragic life experiences. Here the body in all its materiality – from childbirth to death – plays a significant role in Loy's work, particularly in the context of her expressions of complex entanglements of the corporeal/spiritual, human/non-human, self/other, words/sounds and individual/collective in her oeuvre. Although Loy's work was shaped by modernism, feminism, avant-gardism and Christianity it also transcended these influences – her work ultimately reaches toward a broader focus on those who are abject in society, and on the role of aesthetic consciousness in formulations of a more humane world. Schelling's goal is to find a total consciousness for human; therefore, in the philosophy of nature, he tries to reach from the real to the ideal. On the other hand, the conscious spirit is a product of human subjectivity, so, an unconscious spirit manages things. Therefore, Schelling's transition from natural philosophy to the system of transcendental idealism occurs. Reaching this level of consciousness is possible when [I] goes through different stages. The first stage is sensation, then reflection and after that comes praxis. But since the will of the subject of and the will of nature are the same, and ethics is in the realm of practical reason, then the subject of action does not have free will. Therefore, there is a gap between theoretical philosophy and practical philosophy that Schelling must somehow fill. He solves this problem with the free and creative will of an artist, a will that acts not out of necessity but freely. Schelling reaches the absolute from the identity of natural philosophy and transcendental idealism. The absolute is the result of identity of the real and the ideal. It is crystal clear that expounding how to objectify the absolute leads to a better comprehension of Schelling's philosophical system. In this article, it is investigated that among theoretical wisdom, practical wisdom and art, which one Schelling deems the most functional mechanism to objectify the absolute, and what are the roles of genius and the beauty through this path.

The text discusses two books: "The Maniac" by Benjamin Labatut and "R.U.R. and the Vision of Artificial Life" edited by Jitka Čejková. "The Maniac" explores the life of mathematician John von Neumann and his pursuit of order and rationality in the face of chaos and technological advancements. The book raises questions about the relationship between humans and machines and the potential dangers of artificial intelligence. "R.U.R." is a play by Karel Čapek that depicts a future where humans create robots to serve them, but eventually, the robots rebel against their human creators. Both books offer insights into the impact of technology on society and the ethical implications of artificial intelligence. [Extracted from the article]

James Hutton, often considered the inventor of modern geology, is a significant figure of the Scottish enlightenment. However, previous biographies have focused primarily on his Theory of the Earth, neglecting his wide-ranging interests and pursuits. In "James Hutton: The Genius of Time," journalist Ray Perman aims to demonstrate that Hutton was a polymath worthy of standing alongside David Hume and Adam Smith. Perman presents Hutton as a serious scientist and challenges the myth that he was a simple farmer. The biography also explores Hutton's writing style, his treatment by contemporaries, and his place in the intellectual life of Scotland. Despite limited archival materials, Perman provides an enjoyable and detailed account of Hutton's life and times. [Extracted from the article]
