BackgroundFreshmen were found to use social networking sites (SNS) as a useful medium to effectively adjust to college life, which hints at a tendency to resort to SNS for social compensation. However, the compensatory use of SNS is usually problematic. ObjectiveThis study explores why a subgroup of freshmen developed depressive symptoms while socially adjusting to college by investigating the antecedent role of introversion, the explanatory role of compensatory use of SNS, and the protective role of perceived family support. The study is among the first to point out the relevance of the compensatory use of SNS in explaining the indirect association between introversion and depression with a longitudinal design. MethodsA 3-wave panel sample of freshmen (N=1137) is used to examine the moderated mediation model. AIM:To compare the differences, correlations and consistency of IOL Master 700 or Lenstar LS900 in preoperative ocular biometry and the accuracy of intraocular lens(IOL)degree calculation of cataract patients with high myopia.METHODS: Retrospective study. A total of 136 cases(136 eyes)of high myopia and cataract patients who underwent phacoemulsification at the ophthalmology department of Army Medical Center of PLA from March 2021 to March 2023 were collected, with a mean age of 57.38±8.08 years. Patients were divided into 3 groups based on axial length(AL): 41 eyes in group A(26 mm≤ AL ≤28 mm), 43 eyes in group B(28 mm< AL ≤30 mm)and 52 eyes in group C(AL >30 mm). AL, mean keratometry(Km), anterior chamber depth(ACD), lens thickness(LT)and white-to-white(WTW)were preoperatively measured by two instruments, respectively. Barrett Universal II formula was used to calculate the IOL degrees of all patients, the appropriate reserved diopter was decided individually, and the prediction error(PE)and absolute error(AE)of the two instruments were compared.RESULTS:The AL and ACD of patients in the three groups measured by Lenstar LS900 were higher than the AL measurd by IOL Master 700(all Pgroup B>group A. However, there was no statistical significance in LT, Km, and WTW measured by the two instruments(all P>0.05). There is a heated debate on a learning paradigm known as "fast mapping" for its early neocortical dependence and retained memory over time for amnesic patients with hippocampal system damage. Whether the fast mapping allows hippocampus independent learning and induces rapid integration is poorly understood. The present study aims to investigate the effect of fast mapping on very long-term retention, which to our knowledge has not been previously explored. We tested memory retention ranging from 10 min to 1.5 years, for novel word-object associations learned from fast mapping or explicit encoding procedures. The three-alternative forced choice recognition task was employed to assess memory performance. Besides the slight adjustment of the testing schedule, other settings remained the same in Experiment 2 to replicate and verify the findings of Experiment 1. Results showed that overall memory retrieval performance was higher after explicit encoding as compared to fast mapping. However, retrieval performance after explicit encoding dropped after 1.5 years, but remained stable in the fast mapping condition. Furthermore, matching the semantic category of the known and the novel items during the fast mapping paradigm might affect long-term retention. These results suggest that fast mapping creates more stable long-term memory representations as compared to the explicit encoding strategy.

This study delves into Ulcerative colitis (UC), a persistent gastrointestinal disorder marked by inflammation and ulcers, significantly elevating colorectal cancer risk. The emergence of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology has opened new avenues for dissecting the intricate cellular dynamics and molecular mechanisms at play in UC pathology. By analyzing scRNA-seq data from individuals with UC, our study has revealed a consistent enhancement of inflammatory response pathways throughout the course of the disease, alongside detailing the characteristics of endothelial cell damage within colitis environments. A noteworthy finding is the downregulation of Phospholysine Phosphohistidine Inorganic Pyrophosphate Phosphatase (LHPP), which exhibited a inversely correlate with STAT3 expression levels. The markedly reduced expression of LHPP in both the tissues and plasma of UC patients positions LHPP as a compelling target for therapeutic intervention. Our findings highlight the pivotal role LHPP could play in moderating inflammation, spotlighting its potential as a crucial molecular target in the quest to understand and treat UC.
