- Abstract
Information technology (IT) is used in numerous fields today, from health to education. This situation has brought about the need to train individuals toward using technological knowledge efficiently. IT education plays an important role in training individuals to become qualified in this field. Therefore, the IT curriculum should be designed to meet the said needs of students. This study then aims to provide a program development model for the information technologies curriculum at the secondary school level that can be adapted to the conditions of the day. To develop the model, the authors examined the relevant literature and information technologies program development processes and teaching programs of different countries. In addition, the opinions of academicians and teachers were obtained/taken into account. The results of the research led to the design of the "Development Model for a Sustainable Information Technologies Curriculum (DEMSITEC)". This model includes the planning and sustainability of an information technology curriculum with a dynamic structure that allows for continuous development. The model will provide teachers with a detailed road map for shaping the curriculum for their teaching environment. The study findings demonstrate that the model is useful for information technology education. It is suggested that this model be used for other grades alongside secondary schools for longer periods and the repetitive process be tested.

The importance and impact of distance education are increasing thereby making it imperative to study its effectiveness and efficiency as regards student success. In this study, we focused on the importance of factors related to student success and priorities in distance education according to experts. We conducted a literature review for developing a spectrum of variables, as well as a survey method for collecting expert views to determine their order of importance. We scanned WoS-indexed journals in the Web of Science database using these variables, adding the keywords “online learning” and “distance education” between 2010 and 2022 to calculate the frequencies of the variables in research papers to confirm our proposed variables. We took the views of 15 academics working in the field of distance education to determine their priorities. According to the results, self-regulation was the most important learner characteristic for success in distance education. This variable was followed by learning self-efficacy, motivation, technology self-efficacy, cognitive learning strategies, goal setting, metacognitive skills, attitude towards e-learning, locus of control, and academic self-concept. These variables should be considered in instructional design processes, and be monitored and developed in distance learners for success.

- Abstract
The aim of this study is to adapt the Gamification User Types Hexad Scale (GUTHS) created based on Marczewski's(2015) user type hexad framework and validated by Tondello et al. (2016) into the Turkish context. The original scale consists of six dimensions, each of which has four items. The dimensions -- and the user types that they refer to -- are "Free spirit," "Socializer," "Achiever," "Philanthropist," "Player," and "Disruptor." It is the motive of this study that identifying and studying these user types may prove useful for understanding the effects of gamification dynamics and mechanics and assist in designing specific gamification techniques corresponding to each user type. The adaptation of the instrument began with translation, continued with an examination of the linguistic equivalence, and finalized with analyses of validity and reliability. The scale items were initially translated by the researchers. The translation was examined by seven experts with good English proficiency to finalize the Turkish version. To verify the linguistic equivalence, both the Turkish and English versions were then administered to 30 English Language Education (ELE) students. The correlation findings showed a high degree of correlation between the Turkish and English versions. Next, the Turkish version was administered to 452 university students studying at the Faculty of Education, Sakarya University, to check its validity and reliability. The results obtained from a confirmatory factor analysis and the reliability analysis indicate that the Turkish version of the scale is valid and reliable. It is recommended to use the translated scale in research especially on determining the effects of factors related to user types and on designing more affective gamification strategies.

Objective: The aim of our study was to assess the impact of the combination of HALP score with TTCR score on OS and PFS in PC patients who developed castration resistance. Patients and methods: The study enrolled 152 patients with metastatic disease who had received either ARTAs or docetaxel as first-line treatment. The median cut-off was 30.83 months for the HALP score and 16.1 months for TTCR determined by ROC analysis. Based on these cut-off values, patients were categorized into low-high HALP score and TTCR <16.1 months-TTCR ≥16.1 months groups. The combination of HALP score and TTCR was then stratified by risk into three new groups: Factor 0, Factor 1, and Factor 2. Results: PFS was significantly shorter in the TTCR <16.1 months group compared to the TTCR ≥16.1 months group, as well as in the low-HALP score group compared to the high-HALP score group. Furthermore, as the number of factors increased, a significant increase in OS and PFS was observed in the groups formed by the combination of HALP score and TTCR. Conclusion: We have validated the predictive capability of combining low HALP score (<30.38) and short TTCR (<16.1 months) parameters in estimating the OS and PFS durations of mCRPC patients, both recognized as unfavorable prognostic indicators. In this study the views of graduate thesis advisors at Sakarya University, Institute of Educational Sciences (5 Male, 4 Female) are analysed regarding their students’ knowledge on scientific research ethics (SRE). This was done via phenomenology, one of the qualitative research methods. The data were collected with structured interview questions and also additional probe questions when needed. The questions were written by the researchers after performing a comprehensive literature study. Expert opinions were asked for after the interview form was prepared. The experts evaluated the suitability of the questions in terms of scope and language and found them to be sufficient. Moreover, three advisors were chosen randomly among the target group to be asked the questions in order to check clarity and expediency before data collection. The findings of the research showed that knowledge about the SRE of most of the students was insufficient, and the educational need for this matter was provided by the advisors. It was also reported by the advisors that most of the students’ knowledge about the SRE was learnt by direct experiences while preparing their thesis and their levels of awareness about the importance of the subject were very low before the thesis stage. The advisors also mentioned that the curricula do not directly include a course on the scientific research ethics; a limited content is taught within the research methods course. It was stated that real life cases, examples and experiences might be effective in enhancing students' awareness levels regarding the SRE. Developing empathy was mentioned as an important technique for creating awareness. Consequently it is thought that taking the findings of this study into account may improve students' levels of awareness on codes of ethics. Research teams could be created within universities and they could focus on providing research and writing support to the students who are at thesis stage. Regarding systematic approach, the awareness regarding plagiarism should be increased from the undergraduate level to post graduate studies.

The study focuses on exploring the effects of three variables -- gender, age, and gamification user types -- on digital game addiction. The study enrolled a total of 422 first-year students - freshman- of a Turkish university in the Fall semester of the 2018-2019. The study employed two scales: The Turkish version of the "Gamification User Types Hexad Scale" (GUTHS) and the "Computer Game Addiction Scale" (CGAS). Data were analyzed by means of hierarchical regression analysis. In the first model, gender was found to be a significant predictor of digital game addiction. In the second model it was found that gender and being a "philanthropist" or a "player" according to the GUTHS were the significant predictors of digital game addiction. Being a male and being a "player" positively predicted digital game addition whereas being a "philanthropist" negatively predicted digital game addiction. In brief, males and "players" are more prone to digital game addiction than females and "philanthropists.". Further research is needed to investigate the persistence or variation of these profiles in people, the sub-variables associated or not associated with game addiction, the relationship of these variables with gaming addiction and positive psychological factors such as socialization, and the impact of career or other environmental variables on these relationships. This study was carried out to examine the contribution of the undergraduate program of a Computer Education and Instructional Technologies (CEIT) to students' various professional competencies. For this purpose, CEIT preservice teachers' views on the adequacy of their undergraduate education to develop their competencies for various professions offering potential employment and the effect of the CEIT undergraduate courses on these competencies were investigated. The participants were enrolled in the CEIT Undergraduate Program of the Faculty of Education at Sakarya University. The study was conducted with 108 senior students in the fall semester of 2014-2015 by applying the cross-sectional survey model, as part of a self-assessment and continuous development of the program. A questionnaire was used for the data collection that included questions about target professions of preservice teachers, efficacy beliefs as an indicator of their competencies related to the profession, their perceptions about the CEIT program, and their perceptions about the contribution of the undergraduate courses to their professional competencies. The data were analyzed via inferential statistics. The results indicate that the preservice teachers felt the most qualified in working as a computer teacher, information technology counsellor, formative teacher, and an educational technologist. The professions in which the participants saw themselves the least qualified were server systems specialist, software developer, network systems specialist, and web software developer. Moreover, it was reported that the courses in the CEIT curriculum providing the highest benefit for improving their competencies were "measurement and evaluation", "special teaching methods", "multimedia design", and "ndividual differences in education". Furthermore, the participants did not know much about the jobs that they can work except for those in the public sector, such as working as a teacher or information technology counsellor. Additionally, the software courses in the CEIT curriculum did not contribute enough to develop their competencies to work in software-related jobs. To interpret the results of the current study in a more appropriate way, it is important to take into account the time lost before the publication of the study. However, it is strongly recommended to conduct further research to find out the effects of the CEIT undergraduate program curricula on developing job-related competencies and to conduct self-evaluation studies for continuous development. Besides, establishing career guidance services in universities may help CEIT students to be aware of the potential job prospects related to their competencies, and help them gain better knowledge and skills regarding their major.

Background/aim: In our study, we aimed to investigate the protective effects of Saccharomyces boulardii on abemaciclib-induced diarrhea model, which is a commonly used drug in breast cancer. Materials and methods: Thirty rats were divided into 3 groups as control (Group 1), abemaciclib (Group 2), and abemaciclib + Saccharomyces boulardii (Group 3) groups. The clinical status, body weight, and defecation status were monitored daily. At the end of the 15-day experiment period, the rats were killed with high-dose anesthesia and the resected small intestine segments were evaluated histopathologically. Lesions were classified according to thickening of the villus, inflammation and edema of mucosa and intraepithelial leukocyte accumulation. Then, mean values of both crypt depths and villi thicknesses were calculated for each rat. Normal distribution assumption was controlled with the Shapiro-Wilk test. One-way analysis of variance for normally distributed variables in the comparisons of more than two independent groups and Kruskal-Wallis test for nonnormally distributed variables were used. The significance value was accepted as 0.05. Results: There was one death in Group 3, but none in the others. There were no findings of mucositis in Group I. There was mild diarrhea and weight loss in only one rat in Group 1. For the comparison of the severity of diarrhea (72.5%/39%) and weight loss (72.5%/45%), a decrease was found in Group 3 according to Group 2 (p < 0.01). Histopathological findings such as edema, inflammation, and intraepithelial leukocyte accumulation also showed a decrease in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p < 0.01). Conclusion: Saccharomyces boulardii should be considered as a treatment option in abaemaciclib (chemotherapy)-induced diarrhea. Further comparative studies and in vivo human randomized controlled studies can be conducted in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bu öneriler karşılaştırmalı çalışmalarda incelenerek yerine göre en uygulanabilir çözümler belirlenmeli ve uygulamaya konulmalıdır., In this study, we aimed to investigate graduate students’ scientific research competencies according to their advisors’ views. The participants of the study were 43 graduate advisors working in Universities in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. In order to collect their views, we used Graduate Students Competencies of Scientific Research Skills Scale, developed by Büyüköztürk and Köklü (1999). There are 33 questions in this three-point Likert type scale. The points are: None, partially, and fully. The study was conducted in survey model. TRIPLE-negative breast cancer ,NEOADJUVANT chemotherapy ,HAND-foot syndrome - Abstract
Triple-negative-breast-cancer (TNBC) has a poor prognosis if pathologic complete response (pCR) cannot be achieved following neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). The group of patients that benefit most from adjuvant capecitabine remains unclear. We analyzed data of 160 consecutive patients with residual TNBC from eight cancer-center. Pathologic response was defined into two groups as having good-pathologic-response (MillerPayneGrading (MPG) IV–III) or poor-pathologic-response (MPG I–II). The characteristics of patients were compared regarding adjuvant capecitabine usage. Univariate-analysis revealed that age, histology, clinical-stage, tumor-size, lymph-nodes number, menopausal status, and pathological-stage were significantly different between two groups. In multivariate-analysis, menopausal status (p = 0.043) and residual tumor-size (p < 0.001) were found to be independent prognostic factors for pathological response. The hazard-ratio for disease recurrence and death in the poor-response group with adjuvant capecitabine was 2.94 (95% confidence-interval (CI), 1.21 to 7.10; p = 0.016) and 4.080 (95% CI, 1.22 to 13.64; p = 0.022), respectively. DFS (p = 0.58) and OS (p = 0.89) improvements with adjuvant capecitabine were not demonstrated in good-response groups. This multicenter-study suggested that only the poor-response group to NAC achieved benefit from adjuvant capecitabine. Postmenopausal status and residual tumor-size were related to poor prognosis. - Abstract
Background: Several potential benefits have been attributed to the platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), including enhanced tissue healing properties. In this study, we hypothesized that the application of PRF as an adjunct to conventional scaling and root planing (ScRp) would enhance the outcomes of non-surgical periodontal therapy. Methods: The present study was a split-mouth randomized controlled clinical trial design in 24 deep periodontal pockets in 12 patients with periodontitis. The pockets were randomly assigned as test or control. The test group received PRF as an adjunct to ScRp, whereas the control group received ScRp only. We measured periodontal clinical parameters at baseline, 3, and 6 months after the treatments. To study the initial healing in response to treatment, transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and collagen-1 (Col-1) in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay at baseline, third, seventh, and 14th days. Results: The test group showed a significantly greater pocket reduction, higher clinical attachment gain, and less gingival recession than the control group at 3 and 6 months. The test Col-1 levels (1.27 ± 1.05, 1.35 ± 0.76, 0.97 ± 0.53 ng/site) and TGF-β levels (11.93 ± 2.68, 12.54 ± 3.66, 17.19 ± 11.66 pg/site) were higher than the control Col-1 levels (0.76 ± 0.20, 0.84 ± 0.24, 0.57 ± 0.19 ng/site) and TGF-β levels (6.34 ± 1.67, 6.35 ± 3.44, 7.51 ± 2.85 pg/site) at all measurement days respectively. Conclusions: Non-surgical application of the PRF as an adjunct to conventional ScRp may effectively improve the periodontal clinical parameters via increasing expression of the GCF TGF-β and Col-1 levels. Aim: Some immunological changes occurring in mothers during pregnancy increase their susceptibility to infections, including periodontal infections. Sheehan syndrome (SS) is a disease that occurs because of severe postpartum hemorrhage causing ischemic pituitary necrosis. The presence of multiple hormonal deficiencies leads to the impairment of bone microarchitecture, which can cause osteopenia and even osteoporosis. Osteoporosis and periodontitis are both chronic diseases characterized by bone loss. Moreover, recent studies have shown that there is a relationship between menopause, osteoporosis, alveolar bone resorption, and tooth loss. This case report aims to evaluate the oral and periodontal status of a patient with SS and to raise awareness about dental and periodontal problems that may occur in such patients. Methodology: A 63-year-old female patient diagnosed with SS in the endocrinology clinic was referred to the periodontology clinic with complaints of multiple tooth loss, mobility in her teeth, and gingival bleeding. In the clinical and radiographic examination of the patient, it was determined that all teeth had horizontal bone resorption; moreover, there was mobility in the mandibular anterior teeth and hemorrhage in the gums. When the patient's laboratory results were examined, it was seen that the basal plasma levels of free triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), growth hormone (GH), prolactin (PRL), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), progesterone, and total testosterone values were significantly lower, and the anterior pituitary elevation was significantly decreased in pituitary magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. Conclusion: The periodontium is the target tissue of sex and other hormones. Hormonal changes may affect the inflammatory-immune tissue responses of periodontal tissues. Many studies have shown that thyroid and sex hormones affect oral and especially periodontal tissues. The degradation of hormonal hemostasis may induce a series of pathological events in the oral environment, resulting in inflammatory changes in gingival tissues, periodontal attachment losses, and destruction of the alveolar bone. Systemic diseases that affect hormonal conditions, such as SS, must be considered in the evaluation of oral health. Medical physicians should refer their patients to the dentist for consultation when evaluating patients' hormonal status and planning their treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study is realized because the previous research result shows that prospective teachers have not had an expected level of self-efficacy perceptions towards educational internet use. The purpose of this study is to enhance the level of self-efficacy perceptions of prospective teachers. We have designed, developed and implemented a new education program and investigated the efficacy of the program using one group pre-test post-test pre-experimental design. This study has been conducted with 28 prospective teachers and they were given 8 hours-course. Pre-test and post-test scores were analyzed with t test and also effect size was calculated. According to the findings, there is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores with high effect size in favor of final-test scores. Providing direct experiences, the self-efficacy perceptions of the prospective teachers on internet use for educational purposes are increased. Prospective teachers’ views about the course are also asked. It is recommended that similar programs and trainings can be developed for different target populations, with different needs, and different emerging technologies, Bu araştırmada, son sınıf eğitim fakültesi öğrencilerinin eğitimde internet kullanımı öz-yeterlik algıları geliştirmeye yönelik bir eğitim programı geliştirilmiş ve uygulanarak etkililiği tek grup ön-test-son-test modeli ile değerlendirilmiştir. - Abstract
Background: Adipokines enhance the synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which play a role in extracellular matrix degeneration. The aim of this study is to determine the levels of some adipokines, proinflammatory cytokines, and MMPs in the saliva of patients with periodontitis and healthy individuals and to evaluate the changes after non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT).Methods: Of 32 individuals included in the study, 17 had periodontitis and 15 had healthy gingiva. Saliva samples were obtained from all individuals. In patients with periodontitis, samples were recollected 3 and 6 months after NSPT. Visfatin, chemerin, progranulin, interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-8, MMP-8, and MMP-13 levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: In patients with periodontitis, all of the parameters measured in the saliva were higher than those of healthy individuals. At 3 months, visfatin, progranulin, IL-8, and MMP-8 levels were significantly decreased compared with baseline values. The levels of other biochemical parameters, chemerin and IL-1β, were significantly decreased compared with baseline values at 6 months, and the levels became similar to those in healthy individuals. In the periodontitis group, positive correlations were found among visfatin and IL-8 (r = 0.909, P <0.01), MMP-8 (r = 0.702, P = 0.02), and MMP-13 (r = 0.781, P = 0.01); chemerin and IL-8 (r = 0.913, P <0.01), MMP-8 (r = 0.770, P <0.01), and MMP-13 (r = 0.788, P <0.01); and progranulin and IL-8 (r = 0.762, P <0.01), MMP-8 (r = 0.845, P <0.01), and MMP-13 (r = 0.813, P <0.01).Conclusion: Adipokines may contribute to the breakdown of periodontal tissue in periodontitis by stimulating the expression of proinflammatory cytokines and MMPs. This study was conducted in survey model to determine awareness of information security of the217 prospective teachers from different departments that attending Faculty of Education at SakaryaUniversity. ”Information Security Questionnaire” that developed by authors was used for data collection. The findings of the survey revealed, that there were important number of students at lowlevels of awareness. There were significant differences in some cases about awareness level of information security between gender, average computer-internet usage experience by year. Contraryto expectations there were no significant difference between prospective teachers that had education about information security and prospective teachers that have no education about informationsecurity. It is suggested to give inclusive and effective information security education to prospective teachers attending Educational Faculties, Bu çalışma eğitim fakültelerinde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin bilişim güvenliği farkındalıklarını incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir.
