This study aims to determine whether ESG funds can be used as an effective tool for environmental sustainability. ESG funds, which first appeared in the 2000s and were exported by environmentally friendly companies, are among the most effective tools for increasing firm value and managing environmental degradation. The causality relationship between the ESG funds, one of the environmentally friendly investment instruments, and the CO
2 emission values, which are used as an environmental degradation criterion, was investigated in this study. The study used 209 daily data sets from July 31, 2020, to May 28, 2021. The symmetric developed by Hacker and Hatemi-J (Appl Econ 38:1489–1500, 2006), the asymmetric developed by Hatemi-J (Empir Econ 43:447–456, 2012), and time-varying asymmetric causality tests were used as models. According to the study results, while there is no symmetric causality between CO2 emissions and ESG funds, there is causality between CO2 emissions and ESG funds prices for negative shocks and between CO2 emissions and ESG funds trade volume for positive shocks. The results of a time-varying asymmetric causality test also support that this causality relationship varies by period. As a result, ESG funds can be used as a strategic financial tool to improve environmental quality during the COVID-19 period; however, this may vary for different sub-sample periods. MEDICINAL plants , *TRADITIONAL medicine , *IMMUNOLOGIC diseases - Abstract
Medicinal plants have been widely used for immune system disorders in different cultures and traditional medicine systems around the world from antiquity to the present day. With the discovery of antibiotics, antibiotics cured infections in patients. However, with the overuse of antibiotics, many antibiotics have become ineffective even in simple infections. This has created a serious public health problem today and has increased the importance of the use of medicinal plants. Interest in natural and organic approaches, traditional knowledge and cultural heritage, alternative and complementary therapies, easy accessibility and the potential for fewer side effects are the main reasons for the use of medicinal plants. Some plants contain natural compounds with antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, immunostimulant, adaptogenic and immune-enhancing properties. The use of medicinal plants based on scientific data briefly tries to determine the therapeutic potential and appropriate use of plants. In this study, plants used effectively on the immune system and diseases were reviewed in the literature and their effects on the immune system were investigated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SPECKLE tracking echocardiography , *GLOBAL longitudinal strain , *ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY , *COVID-19 pandemic , *CARDIAC patients - Abstract
Objective: In recent years, coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has been the primary health problem and because of the virus affinity to endothelial cells, it has become an important reason of vascular problems and cardiac injury. After mild COVID-19 infection, patients frequently attend cardiology clinics with cardiac symptoms and their primary cardiac tests are mostly normal. In this study we aimed to analyze if two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography shows any difference between symptomatic and asymptomatic post-COVID- 19 patients when transthoracic echocardiography parameters are normal. Material and Methods: In this retrospective single center study, 2,741 transthoracic echocardiography records were assessed and 108 post-COVID-19 patients were detected and divided into symptomatic and asymptomatic patient groups and left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LV-GLS) values were compared. Results: The number of patients with normal LV-GLS values were equal in the groups and there were 4 patients whose values were borderline in the asymptomatic group, while there was none in the symptomatic group. The number of patients with impaired GLS values in the symptomatic group were higher than the asymptomatic group (15 vs 4 patients) and the difference was statistically different (p=0.008). The average LV-GLS values were -18.88±2.50 in the asymptomatic group and -17.40±3.68 in symptomatic group but the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.098). Conclusion: More symptomatic patients than the asymptomatic ones have impaired LV-GLS values according to the results of this study. Even if it is not statistically significant, the mean LV-GLS values are also reduced in symptomatic patients after mild COVID-19 infection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The principle purpose of this study is to synthesize some Schiff base derivatives with a new microwave irradiation technique and investigate their enzyme inhibition effects. Related Schiff base compounds (1 a–1 h) were synthesized from 4‐fluoro aniline and some substituted benzaldehyde derivatives (3 a–3 h). The chemical structures of Schiff bases were elucidated by various spectroscopic methods (1H NMR, 13C NMR). The inhibitory effects of the synthesized compounds against acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase and glutathione S‐transferase were investigated. The in vitro enzyme study determined the best enzyme inhibitors for AChE, BChE, and GST enzymes as 3 h, 3 b, and 3 e compounds, respectively. The results were compared with the standard drugs tacrine for cholinesterase and ethacrynic acid for GST enzymes. Molecular docking results demonstrated the low binding energy values between −5.8 kcal/mol and −8.7 kcal/mol with hydrogen bonding, hydrophilic, and hydrophobic interactions at the active catalytic sites of the enzymes. Adolescence is a period when many physiological, social, and psychological changes take place. During this period, some differences occur in the duration and timing of adolescents' sleep. Recognized as a condition associated with the duration and timing of sleep during the week, social jetlag describes the mismatch between the social clock and the circadian clock. Social jetlag causes cardiovascular and metabolic problems and obesity and behavioral problems in adolescents. However, it negatively affects not only their physical health but also their mental health. Reflecting on this information, this review was conducted to reveal the effects of social jetlag on mental health in adolescents and to discuss the role of health professionals in its management in the light of the literature. Accordingly, the content of the study was presented under the headings of circadian rhythm, chronotype, social jetlag, adolescents and social jetlag, social jetlag and adolescent mental health, and the role of the nurse in the management of social jetlag. This review revealed that social jetlag affected the mental health of adolescents in the areas of anxiety, depression, smoking and alcohol addiction, aggression, quality of life, and menstrual symptoms and that the literature on the subject was limited. Anahtar Kelimeler: Türk Kadını İmgesi, Toplumsal Cinsiyet Rolleri, Sosyal Bilgiler Ders Kitapları The REFLECTIONS of TURKISH WOMAN’S IMAGE on the CURRENT SOCIAL STUDIES TEXTBOOKSAbstract: In this study, it is aimed to determine the image of Turkish woman by examining the status of her in historical process and gender roles in the current Social Studies textbooks. The sample of this study, based on documentary analyses is three 6th grade Social Studies current textbooks with different publications. At the end of the research, it seems to be discourse of the status of woman in the first Turkish states based on emphasis of equality. Some sources assert that with Islam woman were not isolated from the social life completely. There also some other sources saying women are mostly at homes for carrying their children. In the late Ottoman period, women movements are mentioned. During the National Struggle term, women are emphasized as sacrifice and warrior. With the Republic of Turkey, the Turkish women’s right in education, law, social and political life paved the way to be equal with men.In the historical process, the gender roles of Turkish woman also show differences according to her status. They are described as queen (khatun) in the first Turkish states, valide sultan (king’s mother) as the owner of endowment, queen, princess and mother caring with children. In the late Ottoman period, Turkish woman is mentioned in different gender roles like midwife, teacher, government official, writer, worker, party member. While the National Struggle period, they are known as warrior identity, in the Republican period, they are mostly mentioned with their deputy roles in textbooks. Keywords: Turkish Woman İmage, Gender Roles, Social Studies Textbooks

• Hydroxychloroquine use increases the risk of QT prolongation among patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). • Using concomitant oseltamivir and hydroxychloroquine increased the risk of QT prolongation. • Having diabetes mellitus increased the risk of QT prolongation. • Patients receiving hydroxychloroquine should be monitored closely. The aim of this study was to describe the QTc prolongation and related adverse cardiac events during the administration of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and its combinations for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Hospitalized patients infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) who received HCQ and had initial and follow-up electrocardiograms performed between March 10 and May 30, 2020 were included. Critical QTc prolongation was detected in 12% of the patients. On multivariate analysis, diabetes mellitus (odds ratio 5.8, 95% confidence interval 1.11–30.32, p = 0.037) and the use of oseltamivir (odds ratio 5.3, 95% confidence interval 1.02–28, p = 0.047) were found to be associated with critical QTc prolongation. - Abstract
In this study, it is aimed at determining the problems of the teachers, who are working as a Social Sciences Teacher and studying as a Graduate student as well, during their Graduate study. For this purpose, it is tried to develop solution offer intended for abolishing the problems by determining the factors which affect the teachers negatively to have their Graduate studies. In study carried out in qualitative research method, sampling for defining the participants has been determined according to the typical case sampling. Thus, participants have been chosen among the teachers who are studying as a Graduate student in the related institutions of three state universities. In this context, being on the point of 8 participants from the related institutions of each university, totally 24 participants have been interviewed. Expert opinion has been taken for preparing semi-structured interview forms which have been used in this activity. By analyzing the data gained through the interviews, it has been determined that the teachers who are studying in the field of Social Sciences Teaching as Graduate students, are facing with the problems such as obtaining the sources/accessing the sources, research planning/eventuation, course contents are not up to date, given courses from different fields, research subjects are imaginary/the problems do not coincide with the real world and attending the courses. Solutions intended for abolishing these problems have been offered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The first total synthesis of (4E,6E)-1,7-bis(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-hepta-4,6-dien-3-one and an alternative synthesis of (4E,6E)-1,7-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-hepta-4,6-dien-3-one, two natural diarylheptanoids, mainly based on Claisen-Schmidt condensation were described. The crucial steps of the syntheses were the condensation of OH-protected 4-aryl-2-butanones with OH-protected 3-aryl-acrylaldehydes by the in situ enamination and then deprotection of OH groups to give the corresponding natural diarylheptanoids. Abstract: A novel proton transfer compound, pyridin-2-ylmethanaminium 2,4-dichloro-5-sulfamoylbenzoate (1), and a mixed-ligand Zn(II) complex, bis(2,4-dichloro-5-sulfamoylbenzoate)(2-aminomethylpyridine)aquazinc(II) monohydrate (2), have been synthesized from the same free ligands, which are 2,4-dichloro-5-sulfamoylbenzoic acid (Hsba) and 2-aminomethylpyridine (amp). They have been characterized by elemental, spectral (1H NMR, IR and UV–vis.) and thermal analyses. Additionally, magnetic measurement and single crystal X-ray diffraction technique were applied to compound 2. In the complex, Zn(II) ion exhibits a distorted octahedral configuration coordinated by O1 and O1i atoms of two mono dentante sba anions and N1, N2, N2i atoms of bidentante amp anion and a water molecule (O1w). The free ligands Hsba and amp, and the products 1 and 2, and acetazolamide (AAZ) as the control compound, were also evaluated for their in vitro inhibitor effects on human Carbonic Anhydrase isoenzymes (hCA I and hCA II) purified from erythrocyte cell by affinity chromatography for their hydratase and esterase activities. The IC50 values of products 1 and 2 for hydratase activity are 0.26 and 0.13μM for hCA I and 0.30 and 0.15μM for hCA II, respectively. The IC50 values of the same inhibitors for esterase activity are 0.32 and 0.045μM for hCA I and 0.29 and 0.23μM for hCA II, respectively. In relation to esterase activities, the inhibition equilibrium constants (K i) were also determined and found 0.25 and 0.058μM on hCA I and 0.22 and 0.24μM on hCA II for 1 and 2, respectively. The comparison of the inhibition studies of newly synthesized compounds 1 and 2 to parent compounds Hsba and amp and to AAZ indicated that 1 and 2 have effective inhibitory activity on hCA I and II, and might be used potential inhibitors.
