Engaging with a spectrum of intermodal and intermedial translation, the primary aim of this study is to present and apply a holistic multimodal approach to song translation through which the interaction of the potential meaning of semiotic resources can be considered as a composite and indivisible whole. The focus of this study is Fiddler on the Roof, chosen because it has been translated for both stage and film musicals in Turkiye. With this purpose, we adopted a triple model which operationalized Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG), Kress and van Leeuwen’s integrated approach by combining textual and visual grammar, and Leeuwen’s (1999) framework of musical analysis. Our historical approach to the Turkish musical landscape proposes that translation strategies for songs in film musicals reflect a consistent pattern of choice (mainly mixed translation) arising from state-monopolized TV impositions; while in contrast, for stage musicals, the wider range of translation strategies shed light on fluctuations in multi-semiotic popular arts entertainment, caused by ideologically- and economically-driven practices. Our in-depth multimodal analysis revealed that an integrated approach can bring to the surface the potential density of interacting semiosis in the performative and narrative dimensions of musicals. These new dimensions, enabled through a multimodal analysis, require new skills, knowledge and literacies, thus, expanding the boundaries of translation studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study's aim was to document the rates of declared and hidden erectile dysfunction (ED) at urology outpatient clinic while attempting to develop a method to encourage patients to talk about ED. A total of 506 patients, all of whom underwent the same procedure by the same clinician with a standard algorithm, were prospectively evaluated. The patients who declared ED as their primary or secondary symptom were grouped as 'very early treatment seekers' (VETS) and 'early treatment seekers' (ETS) respectively. The patients who hid their ED until directly questioned and the patients whose ED was diagnosed with an IIEF‐5 questionnaire were grouped as 'late treatment seekers' (LTS) and 'very late treatment seekers' (VLTS) respectively. The total number of ED was 291 (57.5%), comprised of 54 (18.6%) patients in the VETS, 48 (16.5%) in the ETS, 143 (49.1%) in the LTS and 46 (15.8%) in the VLTS groups. The rate of severe ED was significantly higher in the VETS group, whereas the rate of mild ED was significantly higher in the VLTS group (p <.001). Most of the patients would not seek help for their ED until the clinician directly or indirectly questioned them. Simple manipulations uncovered the hidden ED patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction Increases in spontaneous activity in the neurons of the auditory cortex are presumed as the pathophysiology of tinnitus. Objective To investigate the effectiveness of transcranialmagnetic stimulation (TMS) in the treatment of tinnitus. Methods A total of 62 patients between the ages of 22 and 74 with chronic subjective tinnitus were enrolled in the study. The inclusion criteria were normal findings on an otolaryngologic examination and normal ranges of complete blood count, routine biochemical parameter levels, thyroid function, air-bone gap on pure-tone audiometry, and middle-ear pressure and stapedial reflex on tympanometry. The patients were randomized into 2 groups: 40 patients were placed in the treatment for TMS (tTMS) group, and the rest (22 patients) were placed in the sham TMS group. The frequency and severity of the tinnitus, as well as the tinnitus handicap inventory (THI) score of each patient weremeasured before and onemonth after the treatment, and the values were statistically evaluated. Results We observed a statistically significant improvement in the tTMS group (p < 0.05 and p < 0.05 respectively) regarding the THI and tinnitus severity scores. The sham TMS group showed no significant improvement in terms of the THI (p > 0.05). However, the tinnitus severity showed a significant increase in this group (p < 0.05). The comparison of differences in the changes in the THI and the tinnitus severity scores showed a significant statistical improvement in the tTMS group compared with the sham TMS group (p < 0.05 and p < 0.05 respectively). Conclusion Transcranial magnetic stimulation was found to be effective in the treatment of tinnitus, and may be adopted as a treatment for tinnitus after further comprehensive studies. Tianxia is considered as an alternative institutionalization to govern the international system. It refers to world governance that is regulated by a world institution. Accordingly, a world institution plays the harmonizer role under this system. States, on the other hand, choose their economic models and the leader organizes the relations among different units. This paper thus argues that Tianxia is an alternative framework to Western-oriented IR theories. In that sense, this article aims to explore the similarities between the philosophical idea of Tianxia and Western-oriented IR Theory. More specifically, the article explores the issue from the international system perspective. The epistemological gaps and ontological similarities between the two frameworks will be demonstrated. Aural atresia is a congenital disease that is characterized by an embryologic developmental defect of the external auditory canal (EAC). There is an erythematous, bulging tympanic membrane by otoscope in physical examination of acute otitis media (AOM). Children with aural atresia experience AOM as children have normal anatomy. However, its diagnosis is hard due to the absence of EAC. Facial paralysis is an intratemporal complication of AOM. If this complication develops in a child with aural atresia and otitis media, it makes the condition even more complicated. A 10-month old child who had such a condition is presented in this paper. The purpose of this study is to examine the political economy of Schumpeter's elite model. The Schumpeterian approach that seeks to understand the elites in capitalism will be examined in the context of democracy theories. Having narrated democracy theories, Schumpeter's economic and political analyses will take place respectively. This will be followed by narrating how he influenced contemporary political economy literature by linking one another. The main theme of the study is to demonstrate that the role of elites in political analysis corresponds to the role of entrepreneurs in economic analysis and consequently the elite analysis can't be discussed separately in Schumpeter who approaches capitalism as an evolutionary and dynamic system. Also it will be argued that the Accountability Model and the Authorization Model of democracies roots to the Schumpeterian tradition. Thus, these models should be explained not only by sole political theories but also by economic models. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the developments in the last 20 years regarding abdominal wall hernia repairments by examining the surgery records performed in the General Surgery Clinics of two large hospitals in Adana. Method: This cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted in two stages. In the first stage, abdominal wall hernia repairments performed in Adana Numune Training and Research Hospital between 01.01.1999-31.12.1999 were analyzed. In the second stage, operations performed in Adana Seyhan State Hospital between 01.01.2019-31.12.2019 were analyzed by using medical records. The following parameters were compared for 1999 and 2019: age, gender, type of hernia, being unilateral or bilateral, emergency or elective operation, recurrence constellation, operation technique and type of mesh. Results: In the first stage of the study, 391 operations were performed with bilateral repairs on 379 cases. The mean age of the patients was 49.0(±3.7) and median was 43 years, 62.2% (n=263) were male, 41.4% (n=157) were between 45-64 years of age. The most common type of hernia was inguinal hernia with 72.0% (n=273) and the rate was 7.8 times higher in male than in female. The most common surgical technique was Bassini repair (42.4%, n=166). In the second stage of the study, 1719 operations were performed with bilateral repairs on 1680 cases. The mean age of the patients was 49.4(±3.3) and median was 51 years, 65.9% (n=1107) of them were male, 48.6% (n=816) were between 45-64 years of age. The most common type of hernia was inguinal hernia with 50.4% (n=848) and the rate was 16.6 times higher in male than in female. The most common surgical technique was Prolene Mesh Herniorrhaphy (73.1%, n=1257). Conclusion: In the last 20 years, it was determined that surgical repair techniques in abdominal wall hernias have changed a lot, and techniques such as Bassini, Shouldice, Halsted, Mc Vay have been replaced by prosthetic mesh and laparoscopic repairs that provide less recurrence, less chronic pain and faster recovery time. Objective: We aimed to compare the tuberculin skin test (TST) and the interferon gamma release test (IGRT) for latent tuberculosis (LTBI) screening in patient with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) that have two different pathophysiological pathways and the immunosuppressive therapies used. Material-Method: 85 AS and 75 RA patients were included in the study. TST and IGRT for LTBI were performed in patients who were planned biological therapy due to disease activation. TST was applied using the Mantoux method. QuantiFERON-TB Gold PLUS (QFT-GP) was used for IGRT, a fourth version and a ELISA-based test. Results: In the RA group, TST was positive in 27 (36%) patients and negative in 48 (64%) patients. In the QuantiFERON-TB gold test of 27 patients who were found to be positive with TST, 1 (3.7%) was uncertain, 15 (55.5%) patients were negative, and 11 (40.7%) patients were positive. The kappa value of both tests in RA patients was determined to be 0.440 and was considered to be moderate. In the AS group, TST was positive in 44 (51.8) patients and negative in 41 (48.2%) patients. In this group, 34 (77.3%) patients who were found to be positive by TST were evaluated as negative by the QuantiFERON-TB gold test. Agreement of the two tests in AS patients (kappa) was found to be low (0.184). Conclusion: TST and IGRT are not tests with high agreement with each other. Therefore, although TST is recommended primarily in LTBI screening, IGST may be preferred in selected patient groups such as rheumatologic patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Anatolian newt, Neurergus strauchii, is an endemic Anatolian species. Until recently, N. strauchii was represented by three subspecies. It has been discussed within a recent phylogenetic study in which the subspecies N. s. barani is recommended to be evaluated as a cryptic but distinct species. To address this subject, we aimed to discuss the niche differentiation between N. barani and N. strauchii using geographical and bioclimatic aspects. All georeferenced data of N. barani and N. strauchii were used to estimate the potential distributions of these species in the Anatolian Peninsula. To evaluate their ecological niche differentiation, point-based analysis and niche similarity tests were done. Ecological niche modeling outcomes demonstrated a significant niche differentiation between N. barani and N. strauchii. Moreover, since these species are distributed in the east and west of the Euphrates Basin, this river might be considered as a geographic barrier that can cause isolation for these species. Lastly, we demonstrated their potential distributions for future with several scenarios. Our findings strengthened the results of the recent phylogenetic study and indicated the necessity of handling "barani" taxa at the species level. Moreover, these results contribute, as a piece of evidence, to the biodiversity of Anatolia where another endemic species lives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: This study aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of 2 single-incision mini-sling (SIMS) systems with different designs of anchoring mechanism.Methods: The records of patients who have been operated for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI) with 2 different SIMS systems were retrospectively evaluated. Patient characteristics, physical examination results, and quality of life (QoL) questionnaires were used to evaluate the patients. Primary efficacy endpoints were the cure and failure rates. Secondary efficacy endpoints were complications and differences in QoL questionnaires.Results: Eighty-three patients from group 1 (Ophira SIMS system) and 77 patients from group 2 (Gallini SIMS system) were evaluated. There was no significant difference between the 2 groups regarding patient characteristics. The objective cure rates were found to be 83.1 and 79.2% in group 1 and group 2, respectively (p = 0.09). Mesh-related complications, such as anchor displacement, bladder erosion, vaginal erosion, and groin pain, were more common in group 1. No severe complications were observed. For both groups, a significant improvement in all scores of QoL questionnaires was observed after surgery; however, the differences between 2 groups were not significant.Conclusions: The present study showed that the treatment of female SUI with 2 different SIMS systems had similar efficacy, complication rates, and scores in QoL questionnaires. This article is an attempt to understand one of the paradoxical statements of Max Weber in his famous Science as Vocation lecture: "Heute aber ist es religiöser »Alltag«". In this article, I argue that Weber's idea of "alltag" is the fundamental problem of sociological thought, which stands at the intersection of theoretical analysis and conceptual abstraction on the one hand, and a kind of unbegrifflichkeit, pretheoretical and non-conceptual on the other. Thus, from Weber's rationality types to forms of domination (herrschaft), routinization (veralltaglichung) and charisma (charisma) to the question of method in social sciences (ideal-type and value independence) and Weber's controversial Freiburg lecture in 1895 I think many of the key concepts and questions can be re-read through Weber's idiom of "everyday", from his famous Politics and Science as Vocation lectures to his politics that were oddly consistent. Within the scope of this article, we will try to answer these questions only in the context of the sociology of domination and religion. Countries struggling to overcome the profound and devastating effects of COVID-19 have started taking steps to return to the "new normal." Any accurate forecasting can help countries and decision-makers make plans and decisions in returning to normal life. In this regard, it is needless to mention the criticality and importance of accurate forecasting. In this study, daily cases of COVID-19 are estimated based on mobility data, considering the proven human-tohuman transmission factor. The data of seven countries, namely Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United States of America (USA), are used to train and test the models. These countries represent around 57% of the total cases in the whole world. In this context, various machine learning algorithms are implemented to obtain accurate predictions. Unlike most studies, the predicted case numbers are evaluated against the actual values to reveal the methods' real performance and determine the most effective methods. The results indicated that it is unlikely to propose the same algorithm for forecasting COVID-19 cases for all countries. Also, mobility data can be enough the predict the COVID-19 cases in the USA. This article aims to puzzle why the leading military power of the world, namely the United States, was pushed back from the negotiating table in the Syrian Civil War, and conversely, how and why the world's declining power, namely Russia, became the sole actor in that conflict. The article will try to answer this question from the neoclassical realist perspective. In this perspective, states do not always act rationally. Instead, they can fail because of miscalculations. The United States, in this respect, miscalculated on the Syrian Civil War as well as its domestic politics. In contrast, Russia behaved in accordance with its strategic culture, which resulted in its dominance both in the field and in diplomacy. The systemic stimulus, which is the independent variable, forces both countries to form alliances in the civil war. The domestic actors of both countries, which are the intervening variables, diversified the systemic stimuli in opposite directions. While the US political elite was misguided due to the divided structure, the Russian elite was more unified, which resulted in outcomes in favor of the latter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main purpose of this study is to demonstrate the realist foreign policy of Iran. Unlike conventional wisdom, the article aims to show that Shiite identity is not the primary concern of Iranian foreign policy towards the Middle East. The Shiite identity is only instrumentalized against its rivals. The primary concern is to balance the regional rivals Saudi Arabia and Israel as well as the USA by allying with Russia. Objective: The aim of this study was to quantitatively and qualitatively analyze the abstracts presented at Turkish National Otorhinolaryngology Congresses in the years from 2009 to 2018. Methods: Abstracts were defined and grouped according to their field of study, design, level of evidence, number of authors, the main institution in which they were held, and whether they were uni- or multi-centric. Frequency and percentage tables were prepared. Results: In total, 5,463 studies, of which 1,431 (26.2%) were oral presentations and 4,032 (73.8%) were poster presentations were reviewed. The highest number of studies was in the field of otology and in the form of oral presentations (32%), and in the field of head and neck surgery in the form of poster presentations (37%). Fifty-seven percent of all studies were conducted in university hospitals, and 34% in Training and Research Hospitals. Eighty-three percent of oral presentations and 99% of poster presentations were clinical studies. The rate of experimental animal studies was 16% in oral presentations. The most commonly used design of orally presented clinical studies was descriptive (31%), whereas prospective randomized controlled design was the least common (3%). No study with a level 1 of evidence was found. The rate of oral papers presented with evidence levels 2, 3, 4, and 5 among all oral presentations were 22%, 13%, 11%, and 54%, respectively. Conclusion: The findings indicated that the abstracts were satisfactory in quantity, but overall scientific quality was not sufficient. The data obtained may serve as a basis for future studies, and follow-up studies may guide individuals and institutions that steer the Turkish ENT community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we have investigated the inter-sublevel optical properties of a core/shell/well/shell spherical quantum dot (QD) with the form of quantum dot-quantum well heterostructure. In order to determine the energy eigenvalues and corresponding wave functions, the Schrödinger equation has been solved full numerically by using shooting method in the effective mass approximation for a finite confining potential. The inter-sublevel optical absorption and the oscillator strength between ground (1 s) and excited (1 p) states have been examined based on the computed energies and wave functions. Also, the effect of a hydrogenic donor impurity, located at the center of the multi-shell spherical quantum dot (MSQD), has been researched for different core radii (R1), shell thicknesses (Ts), and well widths (Tw) in certain potential. It is observed that the oscillator strengths and the absorption coefficients are strongly depend on the core radii and layer thicknesses of the MSQD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we have performed a detailed investigation of the electronic properties of a core/shell/well/shell multilayered spherical quantum dot, such as energy eigenvalues, wave functions, electron probability distribution, and binding energies. The energy eigenvalues and their wave functions of the considered structure have been calculated for cases with and without an on-center impurity. For this purpose, the Schrödinger equation has been numerically solved by using the shooting method in the effective mass approximation for a finite confining potential. The electronic properties have been examined for different core radii, barrier thicknesses, and well widths in a certain potential. The results have been analyzed in detail as a function of the layer thicknesses and their physical reasons have been interpreted. In this study, we have investigated the photoionization cross section of an on-center hydrogenic impurity in a multi-layered spherical quantum dot. The electronic energy levels and their wave functions have been determined fully numerically by shooting method. Also, we have calculated the binding energy of the impurity by using these energy values. The photoionization cross section has also been computed as a function of the layer thickness and normalized photon energies. We have discussed in detail the possible physical reasons behind the changes in the binding energies and photoionization cross section. It is observed that both the binding energies and the photoionization cross sections depend strongly on the layer thickness and photon energies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on self-consistent computational modeling of quantum dot-quantum well (QDQW) heteronanocrystals, we propose and demonstrate that conduction-electron and valence-hole orbitals can be reordered by controlling shell thicknesses, unlike widely known core/shell quantum dots (QDs). Multi-shell nanocrystals of CdSe/ZnS/CdSe, which exhibit an electronic structure of 1s-1p-2s-2p-1d-1f for electrons and 1s-1p-2s-2p-1d-2d for holes using thin ZnS and CdSe shells (each with two monolayers), lead to 1s-2s-1p-1d-1f-2p electron-orbitals and 1s-2s-1p-1d-2p-1f hole orbitals upon increasing the shell thicknesses while keeping the same core. This is characteristically different from the only CdSe core and CdSe/ZnS core/shell QDs, both exhibiting only 1s-1p-1d-2s-1f-2p ordering for electrons and holes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, a detailed investigation of the nonlinear optical properties of a spherical quantum dot (QD) containing one and two electrons has been carried out. First, intersublevel linear, third-order, and total absorptions of both single- and double-electron QDs have been investigated for cases with (i.e., D0 and D- donor) and without impurity. Second, linear, third-order, and total refractive indices have been examined in the same structure. In the calculation of optical properties, for the density of electrons in the QD considered, some symbolic values chosen are not similar to those in previous studies. The full numeric matrix diagonalization technique has been employed in determining sublevel energy eigenvalues and their wave functions. The Poisson–Schrödinger equations have been solved self-consistently in the Hartree approximation. In addition, the quantum mechanical many-body effects have been taken into account in local density approximation. The results are presented as a function of QD radii, photon intensities, and photon energies. It is found out that although magnitudes of the linear absorption coefficients are the same for cases with and without impurity, the third-order ones are larger, and so the total absorption coefficients are smaller in the case without impurity. It is also observed that the size of the QD and the intensity of the illumination have drastic effects on nonlinear optical properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we develop and demonstrate an efficient self-consistent calculation schema that computes the electronic structure and optical properties of a single exciton in a spherical quantum dot (QD) with an interacting pair of electron and hole wave functions. To observe modifications on bands, wave functions, and energies due to the attractive Coulomb potential, the full numeric matrix diagonalization technique is employed to determine sublevel energy eigenvalues and their wave functions in effective mass approximation. This treatment allows to observe that the conduction and valance band edges bend, that the electron and hole wave functions strongly localize in the QD, and that the excitonic energy level exhibits redshift. In our approach for the Coulomb term between electron and hole, the Poisson–Schrödinger equations are solved self-consistently in the Hartree approximation. Subsequently, exciton binding energies and associated optical properties are computed. The results are presented as a function of QD radii and photon energies. In our study titled "How Does The Media Show The FIFA", it is aimed to determine that do the newspapers different or not in terms of quality and quantity according to their political views about news on corruption and match-fixing activities in FIFA. In this study it is applied a descriptive scannig model with the aim of researching how is the match- fixing and corruption news in FIFA narrated by media; which is frequently used in media analyzes and to be described the existing facts as bare facts. Scanned data is analyzed with content analysis method. The news is scanned from newspapers published between 27th of May and 30th of August. As a result in this study, it is determined that news on corruption and match-fixing activities parttaking in national newspapers differ from eachotherin terms of quality and quantity according to newspapers' political view.
