In this paper, a novel composite phase change material (CPCM) is prepared with inorganic PCM through impregnation and dispersion method which can be used for thermal management applications. Inorganic PCMs have high latent heat and good thermal conductivity and are non-flammable, but there exist leakage (shape stability) and corrosion problems. To overcome these issues, a porous structured material is impregnated with the inorganic PCM (disodium hydrogen orthophosphate dodecahydrate). The CPCM is prepared by loading various wt% of expanded graphite and boron nitride nanoparticles with the PCM, and characterization is performed to find the thermal properties and stability. The findings from FTIR and XRD analyses validate both the chemical compatibility and crystalline nature of the samples. DSC thermographs reveal the CPCM5 sample has a latent heat value of 168.05 J/g during the heating process, an encapsulation efficiency of 78.8% and a thermal conductivity of 4.69 W/mK. The thermal stability and resistance to corrosion of the composite samples are also enhanced. The best composite PCM sample is then selected, and subsequently, the thermal performance of the heat sink is experimentally investigated. Highlights A fluorinated polyimide (PI‐FTD) was synthesized for preparing a thermally conductive PI matrix and composites. Additionally, surface‐treated boron nitride (BN) was incorporated into the PI‐FTD via the solution casting method to form efficient heat paths along the through‐plane direction. The resultant composite demonstrated remarkable characteristics, including an impressive through‐plane thermal conductivity of 3.6 W mK−1, a substantial tensile strength of 69.4 MPa, and excellent thermal stability. When this composite was applied to light‐emitting diodes, it effectively managed heat, reducing the operating temperature by 29°C. The PI‐FTD/BN‐OH composites can potentially improve thermal management in electronic devices. A novel fluorinated polyimide (PI‐FTD) was fabricated. Introducing CF3 functionalities in the PI‐FTD provides high thermal stability. BN‐OH reinforced the thermal and mechanical properties of the composites. PDMS-based aerogel layers were synthesized as insulation layers by adopting mullite fiber (MF), hollow glass microspheres (HGM) and silica aerogel (SA) as the main fillers, and their loading amounts and content ratios were checked to investigate their effects on the thermal insulation properties in PDMS composites by thermal conductivity, thermal stability, and thermal insulation. The loading amount of nanofillers can significantly influence the insulation-layer performance, and the best performance with the lowest thermal conductivity of 0.0568 W/(m·K) was obtained by 10 wt% loading in PDMS with MF:SA:HGM = 2:2:1, which can achieve a temperature difference (∆T) of 67 °C on a 200 °C hotplate. Moreover, the variation of the filler content ratios can also affect the thermal insulation behavior when the loading amount is fixed at 10 wt%, and the best thermal barrier performance can be found for the sample with more SA as the filler (MF:SA:HGM = 1:3:1). The formed sample had the best thermal stability and thermal insulation property, which can stand a 9 min flame test without burning by butane spray gun, and the backside of the sample showed ∆T > 500 °C for the whole test. Highlights Increasing the thermal stability and thermal conductivity of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is a crucial issue for thermal applications. This paper focuses on enhancing PDMS's thermal and structural properties by incorporating nanocomposite into the PDMS matrix. An investigation of the impact of rGO‐CaCO3 nanocomposite on the thermal and structural properties of PDMS was performed using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), the thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis (TGA‐DTA), and thermal analyzer tests. It was observed that PDMS doped with rGO‐CaCO3 nanocomposite shows better thermal stability, thermal conductivity, and higher crystallinity. The thermal stability was enhanced significantly by adding a 5% rGO‐CaCO3 nanocomposite, and the initial and end degradation temperatures rose to 492°C and 605°C, respectively. The thermal conductivity of pure PDMS is approximately 0.17 W/mK, whereas a conductive elastomer filled with 5% rGO‐CaCO3 nanocomposite exhibits a thermal conductivity of 0.44 W/mK at a temperature of 20°C. In contrast, the thermal diffusivity is enhanced from 0.13 mm2/s to 0.366 mm2/s. Additionally, the Fourier Transform Infra‐Red (FTIR) spectrum at 1411 cm−1 becomes sharp and noisy, and an additional peak arises at 1398 cm−1, corresponding to the vibrational rocking of the CC bond and COC bond in CaCO3 and rGO. The manuscript focuses on the development of conductive elastomer by incorporating rGO‐CaCO3 doped and its effect on the morphology, structure, and thermal properties of PDMS. The variation in peak intensity observed in XRD attributed to disparities in the crystalline structure of PDMS due to the inclusion of nanocomposite. The thermal degradation range is observed to shift toward the upper end. The degradation temperature at the beginning and end of the process is observed to move to 492°C and 605°C, respectively, upon introducing a 5% rGO‐CaCO3 nanocomposite. In recent years, the packaging industry has utilized electronic packaging materials with epoxy resin (EP) and high‐performance fillers, exhibiting superior mechanical properties and thermal conductivity. Spherical silica micro‐powder (SSP) is a critical thermal conductive filler but faces challenges due to its inorganic nature. Surface modification is essential to improve SSP's compatibility and dispersion in organic matrices for effective use in EP‐based composites. In this paper, the effects of the following four modification methods on SSP/EP composites were studied: (1) the processes include co‐modification with dimethyldimethoxysilane (DMDMS) and trimethylethoxysilane (MTES), (2) modification with NaOH, (3) co‐modification with DMDMS and MTES in an alkaline environment after NaOH modification, and (4) co‐modification with methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and propyltrimethoxysilane (PTMOS). Through comprehensive characterization and evaluation, it is evident that modification schemes 1, 3, and 4 significantly enhance SSP's hydrophobicity, dispersibility, and compatibility with EP. This led to the improvement of thermal conductivity and stability of the composite, and modification scheme 4 showed the highest enhancement, with a 42.6% increase in thermal conductivity. Moreover, the mechanical properties of modified composite materials, such as bending strength, impact resistance, and tensile strength, surpass those of unmodified SSP/EP composite materials. In this study, a highly dense GdB 6 bulk ceramic material was fabricated using one-step in-situ reaction spark plasma sintering technology. The sample with a relative density of 96.7 % and a purity of 96.9 wt% was successfully obtained by sintering at 1800 °C for 30 min under a uniaxial pressure of 50 MPa. The Vickers hardness, elastic modulus and fracture toughness of the as-obtained GdB 6 bulk ceramics were 18.9 GPa, 209 GPa and 1.6 MPa·m1/2, respectively. The thermal conductivity of GdB 6 at room temperature was 28.68 W·m−1·K−1, 70 % of which was mainly attributed to phonon vibration, while the remaining 30 % to the electrical thermal conductivity. In addition, the as-obtained GdB 6 ceramics showed no phase transformation after heat treatment at a relatively high temperature of 2100 °C for 20 min in Ar atmosphere. The highly covalent octahedral boron framework played a critical role in maintaining the phase stability of the GdB 6 crystal lattice. This suggested that GdB 6 ceramics could be used as potential ultra-high temperature ceramics for aerospace applications and high-power vacuum electronic devices operated at high temperatures. In this study, the thermal characterisation of natural rock samples from Zimbabwe for low‐temperature industrial thermal energy storage (TES) applications was carried out. Thermal stability, specific heat capacity, thermal diffusivity, thermal conductivity and density were determined. Variations in these parameters were evaluated and their impact on thermal storage performance was analysed. Basalt and dolerite samples from different locations were found to have average specific heat capacities of 826 and 853 J/kg K, respectively, at room temperature. Insignificant variations were observed with differences of 3.4% for basalt and 1.7% for dolerite samples. Also, negligible differences of 0.3% and 0.7% in densities for rocks of the same type but of different origins were obtained for basalt and dolerite samples, respectively. However, significant variations in thermal diffusivity of all the igneous and metamorphic samples were observed with quartzite rock exhibiting the highest value of 2.1 × 10−6 m2/s, while the values for the other samples range from 0.9 × 10−6 to 1.6 × 10−6 m2/s. This implies that the thermal efficiency of sensible TES systems that use different or the same rock types from different locations can be significantly high to be overlooked. The effect of T4 and T6 treatment on the microstructures, precipitates, thermal expansion and thermal conductivity properties of Mg-2Nd-4Zn alloys was systemically investigated. The number of NdZn2 phase increased subjected to T6 treatment. The coherent relationship between the NdZn2 phase and Mg matrix was observed in the Mg-2Nd-4Zn alloys, which plays a great influence on improving the thermal expansion, thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of Mg-2Nd-4Zn alloys. The decrease in the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and the thermal conductivity of Mg alloys were ascribed to the existence of solute atoms in alloys after the T4 treatment. It was also found that the T6-treated alloy has smaller area of the hysteresis loop, which has better thermal stability. Therefore, the high performance was mainly due to T6 treatment, the thermal conductivity of T6-treated Mg-2Nd-4Zn alloy is 124.4 K·m−1·K−1 at room temperature, and TYS of 235.5 MPa, CYS of 393.7 MPa, elongation of tension and compression are 31 and 27%, respectively. The long-term operation of motors induces substantial alterations in the surface conductivity and nonlinear coefficient of anti-corona paint, diminishing its efficacy and jeopardizing the longevity of large motors. Hence, the development of high-performance anti-corona paint holds paramount importance in ensuring motor safety. In this study, we integrate two nano-fillers, namely silicon carbide (SiC) and organic montmorillonite (O-MMT), into a composite matrix comprising micron silicon carbide and epoxy resin (SiC/EP). Subsequently, three distinct types of anti-corona paint are formulated: SiC/EP, Nano-SiC/EP, and O-MMT/SiC/EP. Remarkably, O-MMT/SiC/EP exhibits a glass transition temperature about 25 °C higher than that of SiC/EP, underscoring its superior thermal properties. Moreover, the introduction of nano-fillers markedly augments the surface conductivity of the anti-corona paint. Aging tests, conducted across varying temperatures, unveil a notable reduction in the fluctuation range of surface conductivity post-aging. Initially, the nonlinear coefficients exhibit a declining trend, succeeded by an ascending trajectory. The O-MMT/SiC/EP composite displays a maximum nonlinearity coefficient of 1.465 and a minimum of 1.382. Furthermore, the incorporation of nanofillers amplifies the dielectric thermal stability of epoxy resin composites, with O-MMT/SiC/EP showcasing the pinnacle of thermal endurance. Overall, our findings elucidate the efficacy of nano-fillers in enhancing the performance and longevity of anti-corona paint, particularly highlighting the exceptional attributes of the O-MMT/SiC/EP composite in bolstering motor safety through improved thermal stability and electrical properties. The potential cooling solutions for the next generation are represented by nanofluids, offering several advantages for various technological applications. The intriguing realm of glycine-based acetone-based Al 2 O 3 nanofluids was explored in the present investigation, with meticulous attention to details given to scrutinizing their stability and thermophysical properties. The stability of the nanofluids was determined through a trifecta of analytical methods, namely visual inspection, UV absorbance measurement, and zeta potential analysis, all applied with caution. The results revealed that stability was observed for a duration of 3 days without glycine, and an impressive 6 week period was achieved when supplemented with the surfactant. The incorporation of glycine enhanced the stability of the colloidal suspension without compromising its thermophysical attributes. Furthermore, the study involved an in-depth examination of the density, viscosity, specific heat, and thermal conductivity of the prepared nanofluids, yielding interesting outcomes. The data showed a marked increase in nanofluid density, viscosity, and thermal conductivity with a corresponding rise in volume concentration, while specific heat exhibited a noticeable reduction. These significant observations were meticulously compared to various existing theoretical models and proposed correlations in the literature. The heat transfer performance of the nanofluid in the context of pulsating heat pipes was evaluated and the results proved riveting. Current highly integrated devices require heat interface materials with excellent heat conductivity. A simple approach was employed to synthesize thermally conductive and outstanding thermal stability nanocomposite. Calcium carbonate nanoparticles (nano CaCO 3) reinforced with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanoparticles (rGO/CaCO 3) are synthesized using a novel process, and the effect of rGO in CaCO 3 structure is examined by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope, X-ray diffraction, TGA-DTA, and thermal conductivity. The experimental results show that adding rGO resulted in higher crystallinity and thermal stability. As the wt.% of rGO increases from 1 to 5%, the crystallite size was suppressed by 21.06%, 27.39%, 32.48%, 41.5%, and 45.30%, respectively, compared to the pure nano-CaCO 3. This study aims to explore the viability of adding a hybrid blend of eggshell and banana fibers treated with NaOH to improve the structural characteristics of epoxy composites. In order to determine their appropriateness for different applications, the study includes assessments of mechanical performance, water permeability, and heat transfer properties. Chicken eggshell was used to make calcined eggshell particulate (CEP), and bananas were used to obtain processed banana fibers (TBF). For the creation of bio-composites, NaOH-treated banana fiber (30 wt.%) was integrated into an epoxy matrix with different weight percentages of CEP (like 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 wt.%) through the hand layup with a vacuum backing technique. Examination of the data revealed that, in comparison to epoxy with no reinforcement, the addition of bio-fillers improved the thermal insulation (4 wt.% of CEP exhibits 0.052 W/mk), water absorption (4 wt.% of CEP produced 5.31%), flexural strength (20 wt.% of CEP exhibit 36.57 MPa), and modulus (12 wt.% of CEP exhibit 300.12 MPa) of the hybrids. This suggests that by lowering the conductivity of the bio-based composites, the inclusion of these bio-based reinforcements improved their thermal insulation ability. This study focused on an important global issue containing both environmental pollution control and energy storage. Polyaniline has been utilized as a supporting material to load paraffin in order to form highly thermal conducting and shape-stable phase change material (PCM). Three different weight percentages (wt%), i.e., 10, 15, and 20 wt%, of polyaniline have been used to obtain shape-stable composite materials. The paraffin leakage of the prepared samples PPCM1, PPCM2, and PPCM3 has been examined by 500 thermal cycles in a hot air oven at 80 °C. Among three samples, the PPCM3 composite with 20 wt% of polyaniline in paraffin has shown excellent leakage-bearing properties with only ~ 0.06% leakage after 500 thermal cycles. Further, the chemical, structural, and morphological analyses of the PPCM3 composite have been carried out by FTIR, XRD, and FESEM. The thermal performance of the prepared sample has been studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis, which revealed that the impregnation of polyaniline polymer has improved the thermal stability and thermal conductivity of paraffin with a small decrement in latent heat capacity of the PPCM3 composite. The latent heat of the composite decreased by 18.36% and thermal conductivity increased by ~ 65.45% for a 20 wt% concentration of polyaniline in paraffin with the maximum latent heat capacity. To check the thermal reliability of the formulated PPCM3 composite, the composite has been subjected to thermal cycling of 500 thermal cycles. With increased thermal conductivity, high latent heat capacity, good shape stability, excellent leakage-bearing capability, and improved thermal reliability, paraffin/polyaniline composite PCMs look promising for application in thermal energy storage areas. In this study, new proton conducting membranes were prepared using poly-2,2'-(m-phenylene)-5,5'-bibenzimidazole (PBI) and varying amounts of methylimidazoliumtriflate[MeIm/TfO], a protic ionic liquid, by the solution casting method. The thermal properties and conductivity of these membranes were investigated. The obtained parameters, such as high thermal stability (235–255°C) and the conductivity of 0.7–1.6 mS/cm at 145°C, indicate that PBI membranes doped with either MeIm/TfO or BuIm/TfO, which were previously studied by our group, are quite interesting for further investigation as potential electrolytes for PEMFCs. Composites with excellent flame retardant and mechanical properties are in high demand in the aerospace and various industrial fields. Glass fiber (GF) reinforced polyimide (PI) composites (GFRPCs) were fabricated using a simple ball milling and hot pressing technique. The effect of GF content on the thermal stability, mechanical and flame retardant properties of composites has been systematically studied. The Rockwell hardness of GFRPCs increase with increasing GF content, while the compressive strength, impact strength and flexural strength initially show an increase followed by a decrease due to the excellent dispersibility of the fillers and the strong interfacial interaction between the one‐dimensional GF and PI matrix. Thermogravimetric analysis results show that the addition of GF with very low thermal conductivity and excellent temperature resistance can effectively improve the thermal stability of PI. Adding GF into PI can obviously improve the limiting oxygen index value. Moreover, as the GF content increased, the time to ignition of the composites prolonged while total heat release decreased. These findings suggest a viable solution for enhancing both the flame retardance and mechanical properties of PI‐based composites. The development of lightweight composites with desirable thermo‐mechanical properties is progressively increasing. Phthalonitrile (PN) based composites have shown great potential in this regard. However, the basic thermal properties of PN composites required for engineering design are not yet fully understood. In this work, we investigated the thermal stability, thermal expansion behavior and thermal conductivity of PN composites reinforced with carbon fiber (CF) and high silicon fiberglass (HSF) via combined experimental studies and numerical simulations. The results indicated that CF/PN performs better in thermostability than HSF/PN at temperatures below 500°C. Moreover, the incorporation of CF and HSF lowered the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and thermal insulation of PN. At room temperature, the in‐plane CTE of CF/PN and HSF/PN were 1.97E‐6 and 9.24E‐6°C−1, respectively, while the out‐plane thermal conductivities of CF/PN and HSF/PN were 0.65 and 0.34 W/(m K). It is worth noting that an excessively high fiber volume fraction would lead to poor thermal insulation and lightweight properties of the PN composites, while a low fiber volume fraction would result in poor stiffness and thermal dimensional stability. Silicone foam (SF) is a porous silicone rubber with a lower density, higher elasticity, and good thermal stability. In this work, we selected aluminum spheres and carbon fiber (CF) as thermally conductive fillers to prepare hybrid SF. After optimization, we found that Al and CF hybrid SF (Al-CF-SF) has a higher thermal conductivity (1.37 W·m-1·K-1) than the single-filler filled SF (CF-SF, 1.2 W·m-1·K-1 or Al-SF, 0.52 W·m-1·K-1) under the same filling amount of 60 wt%. The finite element simulation was used further to explore the thermal conductive mechanism of the hybrid SF. Meanwhile, the compressive and tensile modulus of the material (CF-SF) was increased to 10.8 and 3.3 MPa compared with pure SF, respectively, and the mechanical properties were improved. In our investigation of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) films embedded with Au-BaTiO3 (AuBT) nanoparticles, we noted a synergistic improvement in both thermal stability and dielectric properties. PVDF films with varying concentrations of AuBT were expertly fabricated. Remarkably, the films retained their flexibility even at a high volume fraction of filler (fAuBT = 0.5). The predominant phases of PVDF (α, β, and γ) were observed. An increase in fAuBT resulted in a modest decrease in the melting temperature, while simultaneously causing a significant 40% increase in thermal conductivity compared to pure PVDF. The dielectric permittivity reached ∼160 at 1 kHz, while maintaining a loss tangent of ∼0.05. These improvements were attributed to discrete Au growth on BT particles, hindering conduction in PVDF. ZIF-L, a metal-organic framework (MOF) material, has a two-dimensional (2D) foliation, a large specific surface area, excellent thermal stability and CO 2 adsorption performance, respectively. In this work, in order to further improve the thermal insulation performance of SiO 2 aerogel composite fabrics, ZIF-L powder was first prepared as a reinforcing particle, and then added to silica aerogel. Finally, SiO 2 /AF/ZIF-L composites were obtained by solution impregnation method. The influence of different ZIF-L concentrations on the insulation performance of composites and their influencing factors were studied. Furthermore, these composites were fully characterized using BET measurement, Instron 5967, precision transient thermal performance tester, infrared thermal imager, insulation performance test, thermogravimetric analyzer, and dynamic thermomechanical analyzer. The results showed that 0.12% SiO 2 /AF/ZIF-L composites had excellent thermal insulation performance, with a thermal conductivity as low as 0.029 W/(m·K). In addition, SiO 2 /AF/ZIF-L composites fabricated by atmospheric drying method had the best thermal insulation performance under the conditions of gel time of 24 h, hydrolysis time of 5 h, and polycondensation pH value of 5–6. Novel phenolic resin/silicone aerogels (PR-Si) were prepared through a facile sol-gel polymerization and ambient pressure drying process without solvent exchange. Without the addition of an additional catalyst, the hydroxyl condensation reaction between the siloxane oligomer and the phenolic resin resulted in the silicon being incorporated into the PR. The obtained aerogels exhibited high compressive strength (0.84–21.11 MPa) and low thermal conductivities [0.046–0.077 W/(m·K)]. The introduction of a Si–O network structure in the PR effectively improved the mechanical properties and thermal stability of aerogels. It is clear from the TGA plot that the mass loss temperature of the PR-Si aerogel was increased by 73 and 79 °C for the weight loss temperatures of 5 and 10% compared to cured pure PR. Herein, a direct comparison of the thermal conductivity and stability of different silica‐fiber‐reinforced silica aerogels is presented. The thermal performance under high‐temperature exposure within an arc‐heated facility is evaluated by means of thermal propagation and stability. All aerogel materials, tested within this study, outperform the high‐temperature fiber‐based insulation mat in terms of thermal protection. Modification of the aerogels in the composition and opacification leads to an improvement of thermal insulation properties as well as of thermal stability against the high temperature. All materials are prepared in the form of cylindrical disks of 100 mm diameter having a thickness of 20 mm. Based on classic silica aerogel, an opacified silica aerogel and an aerogel in mullite composition, inorganic fiber‐reinforce composites have been prepared and tested, and their performance is discussed comparatively. Inorganic aerogels have exhibited many superior characteristics with extensive applications, but are still plagued by a nearly century-old tradeoff between their mechanical and thermal properties. When reducing thermal conductivity by ultralow density, inorganic aerogels generally suffer from large fragility due to their brittle nature or weak joint crosslinking, while enhancing the mechanical robustness by material design and structural engineering, they easily sacrifice thermal insulation and stability. Here, we report a chemically bonded multi-nanolayer design and synthesis of a graphene/amorphous boron nitride aerogel to address this typical tradeoff to further enhance mechanical and thermal properties. Attributed to the chemically bonded interface and coupled toughening effect, our aerogels display a low density of 0.8 mg cm−3 with ultrahigh flexibility (elastic compressive strain up to 99% and bending strain up to 90%), and exceptional thermostability (strength degradation <3% after sharp thermal shocks), as well as the lowest thermal conductivities in a vacuum (only 1.57 mW m−1 K−1 at room temperature and 10.39 mW m−1 K−1 at 500°C) among solid materials to date. Layered materials exhibit competitively low thermal conductivity along the out-of-plane direction. The solution process is a promising method for preparing stacked structures. However, the thermal stability of the layered materials is poor after processing in solution, thus hindering their applications at high temperatures. One of the solutions to improve the thermal stability of layered structures is to expand the interlayer distance by inserting large-size metal ions. In this work, we studied the thermal properties of Cs+ intercalated layered niobate obtained by the ion-exchanged process. The layered structure of the Cs+ intercalated layered niobate survives after thermal treatment even at 1200 °C. The room temperature thermal conductivity of as prepared stacked Cs–HCa 2 Nb 3 O 10 is as low as 0.11 W m−1 k−1. Upon thermal annealing, the thermal conductivity increases. After annealing at 1200 °C, the value is 0.90 W m−1 k−1. The finding suggests Cs+ intercalated layered niobate is a promising material for high-temperature insulation applications. In recent years, the integration of Nanoclay (NC) into concrete has garnered significant global attention due to its potential added benefits and importance in the construction industry. However, the existing literature lacks sufficient experimental validation and empirical analysis pertaining to several unexplored key properties, such as thermal resistance, conductivity, diffusivity, and fire resistance. This study aims to address these knowledge gaps and contribute to the current body of literature by providing a comprehensive review of the advantageous effects of NC incorporation on the aforementioned properties of concrete. A thorough examination of available data was conducted, focusing on the mechanical and thermal characteristics of concrete after the inclusion of NC in the mix design. The findings of this critical review indicate that the incorporation of NC into concrete can reduce building energy consumption and enhance thermal insulation properties. Moreover, the integration of NC in concrete was found to improve various thermal features, including thermal stability, fire resistance, thermal performance, thermal behavior, resistance to thermal cracking, and resistance to thermal degradation. In addition, the inclusion of NC in concrete was observed to decrease thermal conductivity, thereby facilitating effective thermal insulation and resulting in lower energy consumption during heating and cooling periods. Simultaneously, the integration of NC was found to bolster the compressive, flexural, and tensile mechanical properties of concrete. Furthermore, the incorporation of NC into concrete materials has the potential to mitigate negative environmental impacts, such as pollution and poor air quality. This comprehensive review provides valuable insights into the benefits of NC integration in concrete, paving the way for further research and innovative applications in the construction industry. Nanocellulose derived from cellulose, the abundant natural polymer, is used in various applications due to its superior chemical, mechanical and thermal properties along with good biocompatibility and biodegradability. This paper reports an investigation of the extraction of nanocellulose from two freely available natural precursors-watermelon rinds and water hyacinth leaves. Cellulose isolation was carried out through chemical methods, including acid and alkali treatments followed by bleaching. The chemical composition, percentage crystallinity and particle size were studied using various characterization techniques. FTIR spectra indicate the removal of hemicelluloses, pectin, and lignin resulting in the effective isolation of cellulose from both precursors. Results of XRD indicate a high concentration of Cellulose Nanocrystals (CNCs) in the treated sample. The FESEM and SEM-EDAX images also confirm the formation of CNCs. TGA and DSC results show excellent thermal stability for both CNCs. Investigations on the properties of a CNC-reinforced epoxy composite are also reported. Recently, most of the commercial polyols used in the production of rigid polyurethane foams (RPUFs) have been derived from petrochemicals. Therefore, the introduction of modified palm oil derivatives-based polyol as a renewable material into the formulation of RPUFs is the focus of this study. A palm oil derivative—namely, methyl oleate (MO)—was successfully modified through three steps of reactions: epoxidation reaction, ring-opened with glycerol, followed by amidation reaction to produce a bio-based polyol named alkanolamide polyol. Physicochemical properties of the alkanolamide polyol were analyzed. The hydroxyl value of alkanolamide polyol was 313 mg KOH/g, which is suitable for producing RPUFs. Therefore, RPUFs were produced by replacing petrochemical polyol with alkanolamide polyol. The effects of alkanolamide polyol on the physical, mechanical and thermal properties were evaluated. The results showed that the apparent density and compressive strength increased, and cell size decreased, upon introducing alkanolamide polyol. All the RPUFs exhibited low water absorption and excellent dimensional stability. The RPUFs made with increased amounts of alkanolamide polyol showed higher thermal conductivity. Nevertheless, the thermal conductivities of RPUFs made with alkanolamide polyol are still within the range for thermal insulating materials (<0.1 W/m.K). The thermal stability of RPUFs was improved with the addition of alkanolamide polyol into the system. A contorted hexabenzocorone (HBC) mesogen based epoxy was synthesized and characterized for high thermal stability and thermal conductivity. Since HBC has a nano‐graphene like structure, which would have strong pi–pi interactions, it was expected that HBC epoxy would have superior heat resistance and thermal conductivity. Based on this hypothesis, HBC containing four epoxy groups at edges was synthesized and confirmed by NMR and mass spectrum. HBC epoxy was cured with diaminophenolsulfone and their thermal stability and thermal conductivity were investigated. As expected, the decomposition of 5 wt% occurred at 323.44°C, and thermal conductivity was 0.32 W/mK where the general thermal conductivity of epoxy resins is around 0.2 W/mK. With the rapid development of electronic devices and rubber tires, the industry has put forward new requirements for the heat dissipation of rubber components. With excellent thermal conductivity, oxidation resistance, and thermal stability, hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) is often added to plastics or rubber as a thermally conductive filler, but is less effective when used directly. In this study, h-BN-K was prepared by direct modification of the mixed solution of KH-550, and KH-570, while h-BN-PK was prepared by co-modification of dopamine, KH-550, and KH-570. Two modified h-BN were added to natural rubber (NR) to improve the vulcanization properties, mechanical properties, and thermal conductivity. It was found that the tensile strength and thermal conductivity of 20 wt% h-BN-PK/NR composites were 30.6 MPa and 0.335 W/mK, which were 39.1% and 110.7% higher compared to pure NR (22.0 MPa and 0.159 W/mK), respectively. In addition, the addition of h-BN improved the thermal stability performance of NR to some extent. In conclusion, the h-BN-PK/NR composites provide a certain reference for the use of thermally conductive NR and suggest new ideas for heat dissipation of electronic devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Here, in this work, acid-activated bentonite and its nanocomposite with hematite nanoparticles were synthesized using the simple chemithermal and thermal coupling methods, respectively. The synthesized samples were investigated for morphological, compositional, structural, and thermal properties. Results suggested distortion in clay structure on acid activation and nanocomposite formation with improved thermal stability. It is very important to develop a new method of preparing high-performance liquid silicone rubber-reinforcing filler. Herein, the hydrophilic surface of silica (SiO2) particles was modified by a vinyl silazane coupling agent to prepare a new type of hydrophobic reinforcing filler. The structures and properties of modified SiO2 particles were confirmed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS), specific surface area and particle size distribution and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), the results of which demonstrated that the aggregation of hydrophobic particles is greatly reduced. Additionally, the effects of the vinyl-modified SiO2 particle (f-SiO2) content on the dispersibility, rheology, and thermal and mechanical properties of liquid silicone rubber (SR) composites were studied for application toward high-performance SR matrix. The results showed that the f-SiO2/SR composites possessed low viscosity and higher thermal stability, conductivity, and mechanical strength than of SiO2/SR composites. A composite was prepared by in‐situ polymerization of liquid crystal epoxy (LCE4) with a low dielectric and high thermal conductivity boron nitride (BN) filler, which the filler (f‐BN) was surface‐functionalized by γ‐glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH560) and aminopropylisobutyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (NH2‐POSS). The surface‐functionalized BN was more uniformly dispersed in LCE4, which improved the interfacial compatibility between inorganic and organic phases. Compared with pure LCE4, KH560, and NH2‐POSS modified f‐BN/LCE4 composites exhibited a higher glass transition temperature, better thermal stability, and higher thermal conductivity. For example, when the f‐BN content reached 30 wt%, the energy storage modulus of the composite increased to 2580 MPa, and the glass transition temperature was 103°C. The thermal conductivity of this 30 wt% f‐BN composite was 0.48 W m−1 K−1, 128.6% higher than that of pure LCE4. In addition, thermal stability, low hygroscopicity, and dielectric properties of the composites were characterized and analyzed to explore the application prospects of f‐BN/LCE4 composites in electronic packaging and in high‐performance microelectronic devices. The major challenge of the current and future miniature compact high-tech electronic devices is thermal management. Micro-scale cooling is one of the promising thermo-fluidic implications possess a great potential in this cutting-edge research area. In this research work, newly emerged MXene (Ti 3 C 2) and functionalized graphene (f-Gr) hybrid nanoflake is implied for the first time in the preparation of Silicon oil (Si-oil) based heat transfer media (MXene:f-Gr/Si-oil hybrid nanofluid) for the micro-scale cooling application. This research concentrates on development, characterization, thermal stability and thermal properties evaluations of new class of hybrid (MXene:f-Gr/Si-oil) nanofluids of three different concentrations of MXene and f-Gr hybrid nanoflakes. The thermal conductivity of the as produced MXene:f-Gr/Si-oil hybrid nanofluids is measured (up to 250 °C) by a Transient Hot Bridge (THB) 500 (Linseis, Germany, current 5 mA, heater-power 18 mW) with Hot Point Sensor (HPS). The measurement is conducted in a newly customized designed industrial grade hotplate heat loss protection chamber with a PID controller. Viscosity is evaluated by a Rheometer with varying temperature of 25 °C from 25 to 125 °C. Optical absorbance is measure using PerkinElmer Lambda 750. The optimum thermal conductivity enhancement is acquired about ∼68% for the MXene and f-Gr hybrid nanoflakes concentration of 0.02 wt% over the pure Si-oil base fluid at 200 °C. The viscosity of MXene:f-Gr/Si-oil hybrid nanofluids is revealed to be autonomous of adding the MXene and f-Gr hybrid nanoflakes into the Si-oil base fluid. However, viscosity of hybrid nanofluid samples is decreased by ∼36% within the increase of temperature from 25 to 50 °C. MXene:f-Gr/Si-oil hybrid nanofluid sample of concentration 0.02 wt% shows the thermal stability up to ∼393 °C (∼14% enhancement over the Si-oil). This significant improvement is advantageous for the cooling of future high-tech electronic systems. A silane coupling agent was used to modify the surface of expanded graphite (EG), which was subsequently used as a thermally conductive filler to fabricate diglycidylether of bisphenol‐A (DGEBA)/EG composites with high thermal conductivity via hot blending and compression‐curing processes. The surface characteristics of silane coupling agent‐modified EG (Si@EG) were characterized by a variety of analytical techniques. The effects of the Si@EG content on the thermal conductivity, thermal stability, impact strength, and morphology of the DGEBA/Si@EG composites were investigated. The results revealed that the addition of 80 wt.% Si@EG increased the thermal conductivity of the composites from 0.17 to 10.56 W/m K, which was 61.1 times higher than that of pristine DGEBA. The initial decomposition temperature of the composite containing 80 wt.% Si@EG was 60.6°C higher than that of pristine DGEBA. The impact strength of the composites decreased from 2.0 to 0.87 kJ/m2 when the Si@EG content increased from 0 to 80 wt.%. The scanning electron microscopy images of the fractured surfaces revealed that the EG sheets in the DGEBA matrix formed a continuous thermally conductive path at high Si@EG contents. For the purpose of developing high-performance and high functional rubber composites, the recent progress of modified graphene in improving the properties of rubber composites was reviewed, involving mechanical properties, thermal conductivity, barrier properties, electrical properties and thermal stability. The application prospects and problems of modified graphene as a new type of functional filler in rubber composites were prospected and analyzed. Improving the interface compatibility between modified graphene and rubber matrix is a technical problem and main direction to be solved in this field at present, and is also the key to prepare high-performance functional rubber materials. Myristic acid (MA) was used as the phase change material (PCM) and expanded graphite (EG) was used as the additive substrate. 21 kinds of EG/MA shaped composite PCM samples with different ratios were prepared by means of "melt blending-press forming" method with different molding pressure and pressing technology. The microstructure of the samples was characterized and analyzed, and then the samples were subjected to thermal property testing and thermal stability analysis to explore the relationship between the microstructure and thermal properties. Relevant experiments showed that EGII with high expansion degree not only improved the distribution uniformity of MA, but also significantly improved the liquid phase encapsulation during the phase transition. Better thermal stability was shown in the 50-cycle stability test. The melting point and enthalpy of the shaped composite PCM sample (24 wt% EGΙΙ/MA) were 53.98 ℃ and 199.1 J g−1, respectively. The addition of EG and the change of the pressing process can adjust the radial thermal conductivity and axial thermal conductivity of the samples. The radial thermal conductivity of the 16 wt% and 24 wt% EGII/MA samples consistently increased with increasing pressure in the molding pressure range of 10 MPa to 50 MPa, which is due to the larger pore volume of the more expansive EGII and the higher compressibility of the graphite flake layer in the composites. When the pressure was increased to 50 MPa, the radial thermal conductivity of 24 wt% EGII/MA slightly increased to 26.21 W m−1·K−1, which was about 140 times higher than the thermal conductivity value of 0.18 W m−1·K−1 for pure MA. Thermal conductivity (TC) and thermal stability are the basic requirements and highly desirable properties in thermal management, heat storage and heat transfer applications. This work is regarding the fabrication of polystyrene/boron nitride composites and melt extruded to produce good thermal stability, increased thermal conductivity and enhanced mechanical properties. Our strategy is potentially applicable to produce thermally conductive composites of low cost over large scale. Boron nitride powder is bath sonicated in 10% NH3 solution to avoid its agglomeration and tendency toward entanglement in a polymer matrix. An approximately 67.43% increase in thermal conductivity and 69.37% increase in tensile strength as well as 56 multiple increases in thermal stability of the optimum samples were achieved. The developed polymeric composites are potentially applicable in the electronic industry, especially in electronic devices used for 5G, heat sink and several other aviation applications. Stable nanolubricant mixtures are interrelated with thermal conductivity enhancement, thus improving heat transfer performance in automotive air conditioning (AAC) systems. This paper studies the stability and thermal conductivity of double-end capped polyalkylene glycol (PAG)-based nanolubricants specially designed for R1234yf refrigerant. Mono nanolubricants (Al2O3/PAG and SiO2/PAG) and hybrid nanolubricants (Al2O3–SiO2/PAG) were prepared using a two-step preparation method at different volume concentrations of 0.01 to 0.05%. The stability of these nanolubricants was observed by visual, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, and zeta potential. Thermal conductivity (k) was measured from 30 to 70 °C using a C-Therm thermal properties analyser. The results from the stability analysis show that all nanolubricants were confirmed in excellent stability conditions for more than six months with minimum visual sedimentation, more than 70% concentration ratio, and zeta potentials greater than 60 mV. The Al2O3–SiO2/PAG samples recorded the highest values of thermal conductivity increment, followed by the Al2O3/PAG and SiO2/PAG samples with 2.0%, 1.7%, and 1.5% enhancement. Hybrid nanolubricants have been shown to have greater potential in the AAC system because of their excellent stability and better property enhancement in thermal conductivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hydrogels, as a series of three-dimensional, crosslinked, hydrophilic network polymers, exhibit extraordinary properties in softness, mechanical robustness and biocompatibility, which have been extensively utilized in various fields, especially for electronic devices. However, since hydrogels contain plenty of water, the mechanical and electrochemical properties are susceptible to temperature. The thermal characteristics of hydrogels can significantly affect the performance of flexible electronic devices. In this review, recent research on the thermal characteristics of hydrogels and their applications in electronic devices is summarized. The focus of future work is also proposed. The thermal stability, thermoresponsiveness and thermal conductivity of hydrogels are discussed in detail. Anti-freezing and anti-drying properties are the critical points for the thermal stability of hydrogels. Methods such as introducing soluble ions and organic solvents into hydrogels, forming ionogels, modifying polymer chains and incorporating nanomaterials can improve the thermal stability of hydrogels under extreme environments. In addition, the critical solution temperature is crucial for thermoresponsive hydrogels. The thermoresponsive capacity of hydrogels is usually affected by the composition, concentration, crosslinking degree and hydrophilic/hydrophobic characteristics of copolymers. In addition, the thermal conductivity of hydrogels plays a vital role in the electronics applications. Herein, a comprehensive computational investigation of the stability and mechanical, electronic, and thermal transport properties of two new Tl‐based MAX‐phase compounds Ta2TlC and Ta2TlN is presented. The negative values of the formation energy ensure the chemical stability of the materials. Moreover, the analysis of phonon dispersion and elastic constants shows that the compounds are dynamically and mechanically stable. From the electronic structures, the miss of bandgap at the Fermi level reveals the metallic nature of the compounds, and state densities indicate the difference between the conductivities of the two compounds. Furthermore, interestingly low thermal conductivities are obtained for both compounds. The reputation of nanofluids as a convenient heat transfer media has grown in recent years. The synthesis of nanofluids is often challenging, particularly carbon-based nanofluids, due to the rapid agglomeration of the nanoparticles and the instability of the nanofluids. In this regard, surface modification and surfactant addition are potential approaches to improve the physical and thermal properties of carbon-based nanofluids that have been studied and the structural, morphological, and thermal characteristics of surface-oxidised carbon nanofibre (CNF)-based nanofluids has been characterised. Commercial CNF was first subjected to three different acid treatments to introduce surface oxygen functional groups on the CNF surface. Following the physical and thermal characterisation of the three surface-oxidised CNFs (CNF-MA, CNF-MB, and CNF-MC), including Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), the CNF-MB was selected as the best method to synthesise the surface-oxidised CNF-based nanofluid. A total of 40 mL of ultrapure water was used as a pure base fluid and mixed with the surface-oxidised CNF at a concentration range of 0.1–1.0 wt.%, with a fixed of 10 wt.% amount of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). The thermal conductivity of CNF-based nanofluid was then characterised at different temperatures (6, 25, and 40 °C). Based on the results, surface oxidation via Method B significantly affected the extent of surface defects and effectively enhanced the group functionality on the CNF surface. Aside from the partially defective and rough surface of CNF-MB surfaces from the FESEM analysis, the presence of surface oxygen functional groups on the CNF wall was confirmed via the Raman analysis, TGA curve, and FTIR analysis. The visual sedimentation observation also showed that the surface-oxidised CNF particles remained dispersed in the nanofluid due to the weakened van der Waals interaction. The dispersion of CNF particles was improved by the presence of PVP, which further stabilised the CNF-based nanofluids. Ultimately, the thermal conductivity of the surface-oxidised CNF-based nanofluid with PVP was significantly improved with the highest enhancement percentage of 18.50, 16.84, and 19.83% at 6, 25, and 40 °C, respectively, at an optimum CNF concentration of 0.7 wt.%. The potential PCMs show good thermal properties which makes them a good choice but the low thermal conductivity limits their application. In this study. PCM nanocomposites are prepared with the inclusion of MWCNT and investigated the thermal and chemical stability. As a result, the stability of the prepared PCM with nanoparticles shows no agglomeration during 48 hours by visual inspection. In addition. the Hexadecan-1-ol which is chosen as base PCM has a phase change temperature of 45°C with 230 J/g latent heat of fusion. The thermal conductivity of the base PCM was 0.309 W/m ⋅ K, and it was a 68% enhancement of the thermal conductivity compared to that of the 4wt% nano-enhanced PCM (NEPCM). Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) nanocomposites (TPU/μmAl2O3‐ACA/nmAl2O3) with excellent mechanical, thermal stability and thermal conductivity were fabricated by co‐incorporating aluminate coupling agent DL‐411 chemically functionalized micron Al2O3 (μmAl2O3‐ACA) and nano‐Al2O3 (nmAl2O3) through melt blending method. FTIR analysis indicated that DL‐411 has been successfully grafted on the surface of μmAl2O3, which was beneficial to the homogeneous dispersion of Al2O3 particles and enhancements of interfacial interactions between Al2O3 particles and TPU matrix. Adding μmAl2O3‐ACA and nmAl2O3 simultaneously showed obvious synergistic effects on improving the mechanical properties of TPU nanocomposites. The optimum mechanical properties were obtained at the mass ratio of μmAl2O3‐ACA to nmAl2O3 of 3:1. Both μmAl2O3‐ACA and nmAl2O3 particles were homogeneously dispersed, constructing relatively perfect thermal conductivity networks, as verified by FESEM and PLM observations. The thermal conductivity (k) of TPU nanocomposites increased continuously with the addition of μmAl2O3‐ACA/nmAl2O3 particles, and the optimal k (0.28 W/m K) was achieved when the mass ratio of μmAl2O3‐ACA to nmAl2O3 was 3:1, which increased by 53% compared with pure TPU (k = 0.183 W/m K). TGA showed that, in contrast to those of pure TPU, the maximum decomposition temperature of TPU/μmAl2O3‐ACA/nmAl2O3 nanocomposites increased by 77.77°C, and the decomposition activation energy of TPU nanocomposite enhanced by 178%. The stability of the thermal properties of diamond/Al composites during thermal cycling is crucial to their thermal management applications. In this study, we realize a well-bonded interface in diamond/Al composites by interfacial in situ Al4C3 engineering. As a result, the excellent stability of thermal conductivity in the diamond/Al composites is presented after 200 thermal cycles from 218 to 423 K. The thermal conductivity is decreased by only 2–5%, mainly in the first 50–100 thermal cycles. The reduction of thermal conductivity is ascribed to the residual plastic strain in the Al matrix after thermal cycling. Significantly, the 272 μm-diamond/Al composite maintains a thermal conductivity over 700 W m−1 K−1 after 200 thermal cycles, much higher than the reported values. The discrete in situ Al4C3 phase strengthens the diamond/Al interface and reduces the thermal stress during thermal cycling, which is responsible for the high thermal conductivity stability in the composites. Two types of polyethylenes, the crosslinked high‐density polyethylene (PEX) and the short‐chain branched medium‐density polyethylene (polyethylene of raised temperature resistance [PE‐RT]), are selected as matrices for graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) nanocomposites preparation (PEX/GNPs, PE‐RT/GNPs). The melt‐mixing technique is used to synthesize the nanocomposites containing various loadings of GNPs. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is employed to study the effect of the GNPs on the melting and crystallization behavior of the prepared materials. The thermal stability of the nanocomposites was evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Laser flash analysis (LFA) is used to estimate the thermal conductivity of both PEX and PE‐RT/GNPs nanocomposites. TGA measurements reveal that PEX nanocomposites present decreased thermal stability with increasing filler content. The DSC results show that the crystallinity of both matrices increases with increasing filler content. PEX/GNPs nanocomposites show more significant thermal conductivity augmentation compared to the corresponding PE‐RT nanocomposites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hybrid nanofluids have research potential and value in heat exchange. In this study, the stability, thermal conductivity and viscosity of thermally conductive oil-based silicon carbide-multi-walled carbon nanotube (SiC-MWCNT/Oil) hybrid nanofluids were investigated under different conditions. It was observed that the SiC-MWCNT/Oil hybrid nanofluid with a dispersant content of 3.0 wt% had the best stability. Both temperature and concentration were important factors that affect thermal conductivity. The thermal conductivity increased more significantly with the temperature increasing. At the same time, nanoparticles would not only increase the thermal conductivity of the fluid but also greatly increase the viscosity of the heat transfer oil. Through data analysis, a certain amount of SiC and MWCNT nanoparticles could make the heat transfer oil have better thermophysical properties. The thermal conductivity of the SiC-MWCNT/Oil hybrid nanofluid with a concentration of 1.00 vol% was increased by 22.58% at 80 °C. SiC-MWCNT/Oil hybrid nanofluids have great application potential. The thermal conductivity of silicone rubber is very low and does not meet the required thermal conductive applications, so inorganic fillers are added to increase heat transfer which ultimately improves the thermally conductive path. In this study, silicone rubber/hexagonal boron nitride composite was synthesized by the hydrolysis-polycondensation method to enhance the thermal conductivity of the material while retaining acceptable flexibility properties. The introduction of MQ resin reduced crosslink density, thermal stability, tensile strength, and hardness of the silicone resin composite and improved elongation. The addition of vinyl-based MQT and aluminum-based MQT resins improved the properties of the silicone rubber, while the addition of vinyl-based MQT resin reduced the crosslink density, tensile strength and hardness, and improved its elongation and thermal stability properties. While aluminum-based MQT resin did not have a significant effect on crosslink density, tensile strength, or hardness, it also improved elongation and reduced thermal stability. The high filler concentration of hexagonal boron nitride in the composite enhanced thermal conductivity up to 3.253 Wm−1 K−1, while it reduced tensile strength to 1.248 MPa and elongation to 22% but increased hardness up to 75 shore A. The addition of silicone resin improved the thermal conductivity of all MQ, vinyl-based MQT3 and aluminum-based MQT3 resin composites up to 3.661, 3.962 and 4.817 Wm−1 K−1, respectively. For the same three resins, tensile strength was increased up to 1.274, 1.290, and 1.312 MPa, elongation at break was raised to 125%, 188%, and 150%, and hardness was reduced to 69, 71, and 72 shore A, respectively.
