Low temperature, microcube-shaped zinc stannate (ZnSnO3) nanostructures using a low-power microheater sensor platform to detect NO2 gas with high sensitivity and selectivity.

O cancro da próstata é um dos tumores mais prevalecentes nos homens, sendo responsável por cerca de 7,3% das mortes por cancro. Embora existam várias estratégias para o diagnóstico do cancro da próstata, estas só são válidas quando o cancro já se encontra numa fase muito avançada, pelo que o diagnóstico precoce é de extrema importância. A stanniocalcina (STC) é uma glicoproteína segregada, que foi descoberta inicialmente nos corpúsculos de Stannius de peixes teleósteos e que em estudos em humanos indicaram que o aumento da expressão de STC está associado ao desenvolvimento e/ou progressão de diferentes tipos de tumores ma- lignos, o que levou a sugerir que a STC poderia ser usada como marcador tumoral. Neste trabalho, desenvolveu-se um protótipo de uma língua eletrónica (LE) baseada num conjunto de 4 sensores preparados a partir de filmes finos que incluíam anticorpos de STC1 para a de- teção de cancro de próstata. Na preparação dos filmes finos foram usados polieletrólitos de poli hidrocloreto de alilamina, de poli estireno sulfonato de sódio e poli etilenoimina e as bio- moléculas de quitosana, proteína A, e anticorpo de STC1. Estes foram depositados sobre la- melas de quartzo e sobre suportes sólidos usando as técnicas de camada sobre camada e automontagem. A deposição dos filmes foi caracterizada por espectroscopia de ultra-violeta visível e a deteção da presença de STC1 em soluções aquosas de PBS foi caracterizada por espectroscopia de impedância. Os dados de impedância foram posteriormente analisados es- tatisticamente através da técnica de Análise em Componentes Principais. As LEs formadas pe- los 4 sensores e pelos 3 melhores sensores, mostraram ser capaz de detetar concentrações de antigene na gama de concentração de 5 × 10ି ଵଵ à 5 × 10ି ସ (v/v) e apresentaram uma depen- dência linear com o logaritmo da concentração de antigene, exibindo uma sensibilidade de 1617 ± 247 e de 1463 ± 190 por década de concentração, respetivamente. Finalmente, os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que este protótipo pode avançar para a fase de calibra- ção com amostras reais. Prostate cancer is one of the most prevalent tumors in men, accounting for about 7.3% of cancer deaths. Although there are several strategies for diagnosing prostate cancer, these are only valid when the cancer is already at a very advanced stage, so early diagnosis is extremely important. Stanniocalcin (STC) is a secreted glycoprotein, which was initially discovered in the Stannius corpuscles of teleost fish and which in human studies indicated that increased STC expression is associated with the development and/or progression of different types of malig- nant tumors, which led to the suggestion that STC could be used as a tumor marker. In this work, a prototype of an electronic tongue (LE) was developed based on a set of 4 sensors prepared from thin films that included STC1 antibodies for the detection of prostate cancer. In the preparation of thin films, polyelectrolytes of poly allylamine hydrochloride, poly styrene sulfonate of sodium and poly ethyleneimine and the biomolecules chitosan, protein A, and STC1 antibody were used. These films were deposited on quartz lamellae and on solid supports using layer-on-layer and self-assembly techniques. The deposition of the films was character- ized by ultraviolet visible spectroscopy and the detection of the presence of STC1 in aqueous solutions of PBS was characterized by impedance spectroscopy. The impedance data were later statistically analyzed using the Principal Component Analysis technique. The LEs formed by the 4 sensors and the 3 best sensors showed to be able to detect antigen concentrations in the concentration range of 5 × 10ି ଵଵ to 5 × 10ି ସ (v/v) and showed a linear dependence with the logarithm of the antigen concentration, exhibiting a sensitivity of 1617 ± 247 and 1463 ± 190 per decade of concentration, respectively. Finally, the results obtained allow us to conclude that this prototype can advance to the calibration phase with real samples.

Dissertação de Mestrado em Física apresentada à Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia E demonstrado que gating com liquidos iónicos é um método promissor para controlar as propriedades electrónicas de um material, tais como induzir e manipular transiçõoes metal-isolador.Líquidos iónicos, quando usados como dieléctricos de gate numa estrutura de transístor de efeitode campo, permitem transferências de carga até duas ordens de grandeza superiores às permiti das por dielétricos de estado sólido comuns (com tensões de gate menores).Todavia, foi demonstrado que o mecanismo subjacente ao doping de portadores de carga em muitos materiais não é puramente electrostático, sendo, por isso, necessário ter em contamecanismos electroquímicos.Os processos electroquímicos específicos, contudo, ainda estão em debate. Na maioria dosestudos reportados até agora, existe exposição das amostras ou do líquido ao ar em algummomento durante a experiência, tal como durante o fabrico do dispositivo ou a injecção delíquido iónico. Os líquidos iónicos são higroscópicos, pelo que a exposição ao ar pode contaminá-los e alterar as suas propriedades, levando a uma diminuição da janela electroquímica. Talapresenta uma possível justificação para a falta de consenso na comunidade e, por conseguinte,uma motivação para a realização de um estudo inteiramente em condiçõoes de alto váacuo (in-situ) para garantir que a amostra ou o líquido não sejam contaminados. Aqui, apresentamosuma investigação abrangente em condições in-situ e ex-situ relativamente a gating com líquidosiónicos numa variedade de óxidos (SrTiO3, Fe3O4 e EuO1−x), que inclui a preparação da amostrae do dispositivo, a injecção de líquido, e as experiências de gating.As nossas medições em SrTiO3 demonstram que a sua condutividade pode ser aumentada deforma reversível até duas ordens de magnitude e que o nosso setup totalmente in-situ é adequadopara experiências de gating com líquidos iónicos. Além disso, observamos que quando HMIM-TFSI é usado como líquido iónico para gating de Fe3O4, tanto in-situ como ex-situ, apenas épossível causar uma supressão significativa e parcialmente reversível da sua resistência no regimefora da janela electroquímica do líquido iónico, acompanhada de danos nos eléctrodos e aumentoda pressão da câmara de vácuo. Apresentamos também resultados preliminares relativos a gatingde EuO1−x, mostrando que até agora não foram observados efeitos de gating significativos.Observamos que o líquido iónico reage com EuO1−x, levando a um grande aumento da suaresistência. It has been demonstrated that ionic liquid gating offers a promising method for controllingthe electronic properties of a material, such as to induce and manipulate metal to insulatortransitions. Ionic liquids, when used as a gate dielectric in a field effect transistor structure,allow charge transfers that are up to two orders of magnitude larger (at lower gate voltages)than common solid-state dielectrics. However, it has been demonstrated that the mechanismunderlying the charge carrier doping in many materials is not purely electrostatic. Instead,it is necessary to take into account electrochemical mechanisms. The specific electrochemicalprocesses that occur, however, are still up for debate. Most studies reported in the literature,so far, expose the samples or liquids to air at some point during the experiment, such as duringdevice fabrication or ionic liquid injection. Ionic liquids are hygroscopic, thus, exposure to air cancontaminate them and alter their properties by lowering the electrochemical window. This couldexplain the lack of consensus in the community. Therefore, a study conducted entirely underultra-high vacuum conditions (in-situ) is necessary to ensure that the sample or the liquid are notcontaminated. Here, we present a comprehensive in-situ and ex-situ investigation of ionic liquidgating on a variety of oxide materials (SrTiO3, Fe3O4 and EuO1−x), which covers sample anddevice preparation, liquid injection, and gating measurements. Our measurements on SrTiO3demonstrate that its conductivity can be reversibly increased by up to two orders of magnitudeand that our all in-situ setup is suitable for ionic liquid gating experiments. Additionally, wefound that when Fe3O4 is gated with HMIM-TFSI, both in-situ and ex-situ, it is possible tocause a significant partially reversible suppression of its resistance, only in the regime outside ofthe electrochemical window of the ionic liquid, accompanied by damage to the electrodes andincrease of the pressure of the vacuum chamber. We also provide preliminary results on thegating of EuO1−x, showing that no observable gating effects have been seen so far. The imagiology using Narrow Band Light (NBL) is widely employed in detection of mucosa's premature changes of gastrointestinal tract, while taking advantage of light spectral features by enhancing the vascular structures without the application of any type of dye. NBL uses two specific spectral bands centered in blue (415 nm) and green (540 nm). Despite their greater advantages, this technique is not available on intra-corporal imagiology devices yet. Thus, this paper presents a low-cost method to adapt such devices without the need to develop specific and expensive LEDs (Light-Emitting Diodes) centered at 415 nm and 540 nm. The method combines optical filters with commercial LEDs to provide transmitted light with the desired peaks at 415 nm and 540 nm. Two optical filters were designed and fabricated, using 7 thin-films layers of SiO2 and TiO2 deposited by RF sputtering. The measurements showed that the transmitted light through the filters presented relative transmittance peaks located at 414 nm and 542 nm wavelengths with relative transmittances of 31% and 62% and FWHM (Full-Width-Half-Maximum) of 17 nm and 29 nm, respectively. The measurements also showed significant relative transmittances located at NBL central wavelengths of 415 and 540 nm with 30% and 60%.

CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior As nanoestruturas possuem um alto potencial em aplicações tecnológicas que podem ser desde dispositivos de leitura e memória magnéticos até spintrônica. Associar as dimensões e formas dessas nanoestruturas com seu comportamento magnético é o desafio que nos motiva neste trabalho. Um dos materiais magnéticos mais estudados é a magnetita (Fe3O4), que possui comportamento ferrimagnético à temperatura ambiente. Várias pesquisas relacionadas à formação de filmes finos de magnetita crescidos sobre diversos tipos de substratos podem ser encontradas na literatura científica, no entanto, sua deposição sobre superfícies vicinais metálicas é incomum. Nesse trabalho utilizamos a técnica de epitaxia por feixe molecular (MBE) em ambiente de ultra-alto vácuo (UHV) para depositar monocamadas de Fe seguida de posterior oxidação para crescimento de camadas ultra finas de Fe3O4(111) sobre o substrato vicinal Ag(977), que possui alta densidade de degraus. Todas as técnicas de superfície foram realizadas in situ, em temperatura ambiente. Para a análise e caracterização da estrutura de superfície utilizamos microscopia de varredura por tunelamento (STM), enquanto o ordenamento cristalográfico das estruturas formadas foi verificado através de difração de elétrons de baixa energia (LEED). As imagens STM nos mostra certa anisotropia estrutural na formação das nanoestruturas, com auto-ordenamento paralelo à direção dos degraus da superfície vicinal para todas as coberturas. Para 2ML de cobertura de Fe-O, as imagens STM e o padrão LEED revelam a formação de uma superestrutura Moiré indicando a predominância na formação da würstita (FeO). Para coberturas a partir de 3ML nota-se a formação de magnetita. Medidas de resposta magnética foram realizadas através do efeito Kerr magneto-óptico (MOKE) em várias configurações de campo magnético aplicado e mostraram um comportamento superparamagnético entre 4ML e 6ML. Para as coberturas acima de 12ML, as medidas MOKE revelam o surgimento de eixo de magnetização fácil no plano da amostra, paralelo aos degraus, e duro fora do plano. Essa anisotropia magnética uniaxial foi verificada através da dependência da coercividade em relação ao ângulo do campo aplicado no plano. Foi também verificado o limite de cobertura onde ocorre a transição para estado de multidomínios magnéticos. Nanostructures have a high potential for technological application, ranging from magnetic reading and memory devices to spintronics. Associating the dimensions and shapes of these nanostructures with their magnetic behavior is the motivation of this work. One of the most studied magnetic materials is magnetite (Fe3O4), which has ferrimagnetic behavior at room temperature. Several investigations related to the formation of thin films of magnetite grown on various types of substrates can be found in the literature, however, its deposition on metallic vicinal surfaces is uncommon. In this work, we used molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) technique in an ultra-high vacuum (UHV) environment to deposit Fe monolayers followed by oxidation to grow ultra-thin Fe3O4(111) films on Ag(977) vicinal substrate, which has high density of steps. All surface techniques were performed in situ at room temperature. For the analysis and characterization of the surface structure, we used scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), while the crystalographic ordering was verified by Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED). The STM images show some structural anisotropy in the formation of nanostructures, with self-ordering parallel to the steps of the vicinal surface for all coverages. For 2ML Fe-O coverage, the STM images and the LEED pattern reveal the Moiré superstructure formation, indicating the predominance of würstite (FeO). For coverages from 3ML, magnetite formation is observed and magnetic measurements using magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) in various applied magnetic field configurations show a superparamagnetic behavior between 4ML and 6ML. For coverages above 12ML, the MOKE measurements reveal an easy axis of magnetization in the sample plane, parallel to the step edges, and a hard axis out of the plane. That uniaxial magnetic anisotropy was verified from the dependence of the coercivity with respect to the in plane angle of the applied field. We have also verified the coverage limit where the transition to a multidomain magnetic state occurs for magnetite.

Tese de doutoramento em Engenharia dos Materiais, Neste trabalho de doutoramento procurou-se melhorar as propriedades termoelétricas de filmes finos eletricamente condutores, oticamente transparentes, especificamente os de matriz de ZnO, pelo que esta obra centra-se na verificação de uma hipótese teórica: a possibilidade dos átomos de Bi substituírem os átomos de Zn da rede cristalina do ZnO, e consequentemente melhorarem as propriedades termoelétricas dos filmes de ZnO:Al,Bi e ZnO:Ga,Bi face aos não dopados com Bi. Assim, são estudados filmes finos de ZnO não dopados e dopados, designadamente de ZnO, ZnO:Al, ZnO:Ga, ZnO:Bi, ZnO:Al,Bi e ZnO:Ga,Bi, todos produzidos pelo autor por pulverização catódica magnetrão, na configuração planar ou confocal. Primeiramente, foi estimada a gama de parâmetros de deposição que permite obter os filmes de ZnO:Ga e ZnO:Al, com melhor desempenho em termos de transporte de carga, que apresentam uma resistividade de 2,5 × 10−3 Ω· cm, e provou-se que os filmes produzidos estão dopados homogeneamente em profundidade. Em seguida, foi estudado o efeito da introdução de Bi no desempenho elétrico, termoelétrico e ótico dos filmes, e determinada a concentração de Bi, 0,7 % at.,a partir da qual os filmes têm uma transparência inferior à estabelecida como limite. Posteriormente, foram utilizadas técnicas avançadas para determinar a localização dos átomos de Bi: concluiu-se que, ao invés dos átomos de Al e Ga, estes não substituem os átomos de Zn na estrutura cristalina do ZnO, mas que segregavam nas fronteiras de grão do ZnO. Assim, este trabalho contribui para um melhor entendimento do efeito da dopagem, com Bi, nos filmes de ZnO, ZnO:Al e ZnO:Ga, designadamente o seu papel nas propriedades termoelétricas dos mesmos. Mostra-se, indubitavelmente, que os átomos de Bi não entram na estrutura cristalina do ZnO, mas segregam nas fronteiras de grão. Esta observação experimental acerca da estrutura dos filmes permitiu interpretar os resultados obtidos relativamente ao seu desempenho termoelétrico, ZT de 4 × 10−3, e a sua condutividade térmica da ordem dos 3 W·m−1·K−1., In this thesis it is envisaged an improvement of the thermoelectric properties of transparent and electrically conductive modified zinc oxide thin films. Hence, this work is focused on the verification of a theoretical hypothesis: the possibility of Bi atoms replacing Zn atoms in the crystalline lattice of ZnO and consequently improving the thermoelectric properties of ZnO:Al,Bi and ZnO:Ga,Bi films compared to those undoped with Bi. Thus, this work are studies: undoped and doped ZnO thin films, namely ZnO, ZnO:Al, ZnO:Ga, ZnO:Bi, ZnO:Al,Bi and ZnO:Ga,Bi produced by magnetron sputtering, in planar or confocal configuration. Firstly, the range of deposition parameters allowing to obtain the ZnO:Ga and ZnO:Al films with best performance in terms of charge transport was studied, a resistivity of 2,5 × 10−3 Ω· cm, and it was proved that the produced films were homogeneously doped in depth. Then Bi doping the effect on the electrical, thermoelectric and optical performance of the films was studied, and the concentration of Bi, 0,7 % at.,at which the films had a transparency lower than that established as a limit was determined. Subsequently, advanced techniques were used to determine the location of the Bi atoms. It was concluded that, conversely to what happens to Al and Ga atoms, these do not replace the Zn atoms in the crystalline structure of ZnO, but segregate at the grain boundaries of ZnO. Thus, this work contributes to a better understanding of the effect of doping, with Bi, in ZnO, ZnO:Al and ZnO:Ga films, namely its role in their thermoelectric properties. It is shown, undoubtedly, that the Bi atoms do not enter the crystalline structure of ZnO, but segregate at the grain boundaries. No deslizamento de duas superfícies, a seco, a força de atrito depende do par de materiais e das condições de contato. Se o material e as condições de operação permanecerem inalterados, a força de atrito é constante. Técnicas para ajustar as forças de atrito são amplamente conhecidas, porém todas elas são processos irreversíveis. Trabalhos recentes avaliam a influência de campos externos elétricos e magnéticos e, em particular, da radiação nas propriedades tribológicas de materiais. Entretanto, poucos estudos publicados até o momento trazem a análise da contribuição da radiação atuando como um quarto corpo (pois além dos dois corpos que estão em movimento relativo, há um terceiro corpo que seria um lubrificante ou o meio) no atrito entre duas superfícies, tornando essa área, praticamente, inexplorada e, consequentemente, muito atraente. Neste trabalho relatamos o controle ativo das forças de atrito em filmes finos de TiO2 sob luz de comprimento de onda específico dentro do espectro ultravioleta. Concluímos que este é um fenômeno reversível, estável e pode ser ajustado/controlado com o comprimento de onda da luz. A análise dos sinais de microscopia de força atômica por transformada wavelet mostra diferentes mecanismos dissipativos atuando no escuro e sob UV. Simulações Ab Initio em TiO2 exposto à luz UV mostram mudanças na densidade eletrônica que podem vir a resultar numa menor sobreposição de orbitais atômicos na superfície, o que leva a uma redução de atrito de até 60 %. Além disso, verificamos que a intensidade luminosa (a qual apresenta uma relação linear a corrente aplicada ao LED) afeta a redução de força de atrito, ou seja, quanto maior a intensidade luminosa incidindo sobre a amostra maior será a redução de atrito. If the material and operating conditions remain unchanged, the friction force is constant. Techniques for adjusting frictional forces are widely known, but they are all irreversible processes. Recent works analyze the influence of external electric and magnetic fields and, in particular, radiation on the tribological properties of materials. However, very few studies published so far bring the analysis of the contribution of radiation acting as a fourth body (in addition to the two bodies that are in relative motion, there is a third body that would be a lubricant or the medium) in the friction between two surfaces, making this area practically unexplored and, consequently, very attractive. In this work we report the active control of friction forces in TiO2 thin films under light illumination of specific wavelength within the ultraviolet spectrum. We conclude that this is a reversible phenomenon, stable and can be adjusted/controlled with the light wavelength. The analysis of atomic force microscopy signals by wavelet spectrograms reveals different dissipative mechanisms acting in the darkness and under UV. Ab initio simulations on UV light-exposed TiO2 show changes in electron density that may result in a lower atomic orbital overlapping on the surface, which leads to friction reduction of up to 60 %. In addition, we verified that the light intensity (that has a linear ratio with the current applied to the LED) affects the friction force reduction, that is, the greater the light intensity incident on the sample, the greater the friction reduction. CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior Photocatalytic applications of two-dimensional (2D) materials have called great interest due to several electronic and structural advantages. Among these materials, layered niobates are well-known photocatalysts for H2 evolution with a rich surface chemistry. Taking into account the highly exposed active sites of its 2D structure and the morphological flexibility, the properties of the exfoliated hexaniobate as a heterogeneous photocatalyst has been explored in this work, with particular attention to the electronic and interfacial processes involved in the H2 evolution. Firstly, highly efficient photocatalytic surfaces were obtained through the layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition of hexaniobate nanoscrolls on conductive glasses. These films were deposited by using poly(allylamine hydrochloride) as a polyelectrolyte and further thermal treatment leading to films composed of a fuzzy assembly of hexaniobate nanoscrolls. This configuration favored the diffusion of water and methanol molecules thus facilitating an efficient H2 evolution. Moreover, pre-adsorption of [Pt(NH3)4]2+ cations on the niobate layers allowed the production of metallic Pt nanoclusters within the nanoscrolls. The Pt-modified films exhibited apparent quantum yields of (4.0 ± 0.5) % for H2 evolution from water/methanol mixtures under UV-A irradiation. Then, in order to induce novel electronic processes without changing the bulk properties of the hexaniobate, surface modification was performed by grafting with metallic nanoclusters. Exfoliated hexaniobate (K4−xHxNb6O17) composites with metal ions such as Co2+, Fe3+ and Cu2+ were prepared and their photocatalytic properties were fully investigated. Morphological characterization showed that the grafting ions are attached to the hexaniobate surface forming amorphous clusters. These species induce an additional absorption feature in the UV-A region, which is attributed to an interfacial charge transfer from the niobate valence band to the metal ion centers. In the case of Co2+ and Fe3+, enhanced UV-driven photoactivity in plain water was observed for 0.1 wt.% grafted samples, especially for those modified with Co2+ ions, while smaller H2 evolution rates are observed as the concentration of the grafting ions increased. When Pt was added to the photocatalyst, the H2 evolution rate for the 0.1% Co-grafted sample in plain water was 70% higher than that observed for the nongrafted Pt-hexaniobate. For Cu2+-grafted hexaniobates, Cu2+ clusters provided an expressive improvement in the photocatalytic H2 evolution under UV-vis irradiation from methanolic aqueous solution and promising results for partial water splitting, in comparison to the hexaniobate with photodeposited Pt. These species on the hexaniobate surface present a high redox reversibility, being easily reduced to Cu1+/Cu0 and reoxidized to Cu2+. Cu2+ ions work as electron scavenger following band gap excitation while the resulting reduced species act as active sites to produce H2. Thus, the presence of different ions at different concentrations can directly affect the fate of the photogenerated carriers thus triggering the photocatalytic activity in different ways. Overall, the grafted ions contribute to a more efficient charge separation and to higher photocatalytic performances. Aplicações fotocatalíticas de materiais bidimensionais (2D) têm despertado grande interesse devido às diversas vantagens eletrônicas e estruturais desses materiais. Dentre eles, os niobatos lamelares são fotocatalisadores bem conhecidos para a evolução de H2 com uma rica química de superfície. Levando em consideração os sítios ativos altamente expostos de sua estrutura 2D e sua flexibilidade morfológica, as propriedades do hexaniobato esfoliado como fotocatalisador heterogêneo foram exploradas neste trabalho, com particular atenção aos processos eletrônicos e interfaciais envolvidos na evolução de H2. Primeiramente, superfícies fotocatalíticas de alta eficiência foram obtidas através da deposição camada por camada (LbL) de nanoscrolls de hexaniobato em vidros condutores. Esses filmes foram depositados usando poli(cloridrato de alilamina) como polieletrólito, e o posterior tratamento térmico resultou em filmes compostos por uma montagem difusa de nanoscrolls de hexaniobato. Esta configuração favoreceu a difusão das moléculas de água e metanol, facilitando uma evolução eficiente de H2. Além disso, a pré-adsorção de cátions [Pt(NH3)4]2+ nas camadas de niobato permitiu a produção de nanoaglomerados metálicos de Pt nos nanoscrolls. Os filmes modificados com Pt exibiram rendimentos quânticos aparentes de (4,0 ± 0,5)% para a evolução de H2 a partir de misturas de água / metanol sob irraditação UV-A. Em seguência, a fim de induzir novos processos eletrônicos sem alterar as propriedades do hexaniobato, a modificação da superfície foi realizada por grafting com nanoclusters metálicos. Compósitos de hexaniobato esfoliado (K4−xHxNb6O17) com íons metálicos como Co2+, Fe3+ e Cu2+ foram preparados e suas propriedades fotocatalíticas foram extensivamente investigadas. A caracterização morfológica mostrou que os íons adicionados por grafting estão fixados na superfície do hexaniobato formando aglomerados amorfos. Essas espécies induzem uma de absorção adicional característica na região UV-A, que é atribuída a uma transferência de carga interfacial da banda de valência do niobato para os centros de íons metálicos. No caso de Co2+ e Fe3+, a melhor fotoatividade conduzida por UV em água pura foi observada para amostras modificadas a 0,1%, especialmente para aquelas com íons Co2+, enquanto menores taxas de evolução de H2 são observadas conforme a concentração dos íons de grafting aumenta. Quando a Pt foi adicionada ao fotocatalisador, a taxa de evolução de H2 para a amostra modificada a 0,1% em água pura foi 70% maior do que a observada para o Pt-hexaniobato não modificado por grafting. Para hexaniobatos com Cu2+, os clusters de Cu2+ proporcionaram expressiva melhora na evolução fotocatalítica de H2 sob irradiação UV-vis de uma solução aquosa metanólica e resultados promissores para a quebra parcial da água, em comparação ao hexaniobato com Pt fotodepositada. Essas espécies na superfície do hexaniobato apresentam alta reversibilidade redox, que pode ser facilmente reduzida para Cu1+/Cu0 e reoxidada para Cu2+. Os íons Cu2+ funcionam como eliminadores de elétrons após a excitação do bandgap e as espécies reduzidas resultantes atuam como sítio ativo para produzir H2. Assim, a presença de diferentes íons em diferentes concentrações pode afetar diretamente o destino dos portadores fotogerados, desencadeando a atividade fotocatalítica de diferentes maneiras. Os íons adicionados por grafting contribuem para uma separação de carga mais eficiente e desempenhos fotocatalíticos mais elevados. Tese (Doutorado)

Bisphenol A (BPA) is considered an endocrine-disrupting compound and can cause toxicological effects, even at low doses. The development of sensitive and reliable sensors that would allow the detection of such contaminant is highly pursued. Herein, we report an electrochemical sensing strategy based on a simple and low-cost nanocomposite film sensor platform for BPA detection. The platform was developed by modifying a fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) electrode with layer-by-layer (LbL) films of chitosan (Chi) and gold nanoparticles functionalized with a polythiophene derivative (AuNPs:PTS). The growth of the Chi/AuNPs:PTS LbL films was monitored by UV–Vis spectroscopy. Electrochemical characterization revealed that the three-bilayer film exhibited the highest electrocatalytic performance and differential-pulse voltammetry (DPV) measurements demonstrated that the modified electrode was suitable for BPA detection through a quasi-reversible and adsorption-controlled electrochemical oxidation and reduction process. The developed sensor exhibited a linear response range from 0.4 to 20 μmol L−1, with a detection limit of 0.32 μmol L−1. The sensor showed good reproducibility with relative standard deviations of 2.12% and 3.73% to intra- and inter-electrode, respectively. Furthermore, the platform demonstrated to be suitable to detect BPA in real water samples, as well as selective for BPA detection in solutions with 100-fold excess of common interfering compounds.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) Bismuth-diluted III-V are interesting materials for possible applications in optoeletronic and spintronic devices. If we add a small amount of Bi in III-V materials, we observe a strong reduction in the band gap energy. In addition, it is expected that these materials present an important attenuation of Auger recombination for Bi concentrations higher than 10%. Therefore, these materials are good candidates for the development of optoelectronic devices in the near-infrared region. In this work, we have performed a systematic study of III-V materials with different Bi concentrations grown by molecular beam expitaxy (MBE) in different substrates. Particularly, we have investigated films GaSb(1-x) Bix grown on (100) GaSb substrates and n- and p-doped GaAs(1-x) Bix films grown on (100) and (311)B GaAs substrates. The GaSb(1-x) Bix films were investigated using high resolution XRD (HRXRD), AFM and Raman spectroscopy. We have observed that the GaSb(1-x) Bix films have a good crystalline quality. In addition, we have observed several Raman modes associated with GaSb, Bi clusters and GaBi. We have observed an important increase of Raman intensity depending on the Bi concentration and laser wavelength. This result was attributed to the resonant Raman effect. We have also investigated the GaAsBi samples using different techniques such as: HRXRD, Raman and low temperature photoluminescence (PL). We have observed that the incorporation of Bi in the n- and p-type doped samples were similar. However, these samples have shown important difference in the density of structural defects and non-radiative centers. This result indicates that the density of defects depends on the type of doping in GaAs(1-x) Bix and on the substrate orientation. In addition, we have observed that the sample grown on the GaAs (100) substrate has a compressive strain 2.7 times higher than the samples grown on the substrate GaAs (311)B. In general, our results evidence that both the amount of compressive strain and the density of defects depend on the substrate orientation and type of doping, which affects considerable the optical properties of GaAsBi thin films. Os semicondutores III-V diluídos com bismuto têm apresentado um grande interesse tanto do ponto de visita de física fundamental como para possíveis aplicações em optoeletrônica e spintrônica. Quando adicionamos uma pequena quantidade de Bi nos materiais III-V, observamos uma redução importante na energia do band gap. Além disso, é esperada uma redução significativa na recombinação Auger para concentrações de Bi acima de 10%, tornando tais materiais promissores para possíveis aplicações em dispositivos optoeletrônicos na região do infravermelho próximo. Neste trabalho, realizamos um estudo sistemático das propriedades ópticas e estruturais de filme semicondutores contendo Bi, crescidos pela técnica de Epitaxia por Feixe Molecular (MBE). Em particular, investigamos: (i) filmes de GaSb(1-x) Bix crescidos em substratos GaSb (100) com diferentes concentrações de Bi e (ii) filmes de GaAs(1-x) Bix dopados tipo n e tipo p crescidos por substratos GaAs (100) e (311)B. Os filmes GaSb(1-x)Bix foram caracterizados por difração de raio X de alta resolução (HRXRD), microscopia de força atômica (AFM) e efeito Raman em temperatura ambiente e para lasers com diferentes comprimentos de onda. De forma geral, observamos que as amostras possuem uma alta qualidade cristalina. Observamos diversos modos Raman que foram associados aos modos Raman do GaSb, aglomerados de Bi e modos do GaBi. Dependendo da concentração de Bi e do comprimento de onda do laser, observamos que alguns picos Raman tiveram um aumento importante de intensidade do pico. Esse resultado foi atribuído ao efeito Raman ressonante. Os filmes de GaAsBi também foram investigados por diferentes técnicas experimentais tais como: HRXRD, micro-Raman à temperatura ambiente e fotoluminescência (PL) em baixa temperatura. Observamos que as amostras GaAsBi possuem concentração de Bi similares, mas com uma diferença importante na densidade de defeitos estruturais e de centros não radiativos. Este resultado indica que a densidade de defeitos depende consideravelmente do tipo de dopagem do GaAs(1-x) Bix e do tipo de orientação do substrato. Além disso, observamos que a amostra crescida no substrato GaAs (100) possui tensão mecânica compressiva 2.7 vezes maior do que as amostras crescidas no substrato GaAs (311)B. De forma geral, os resultados obtidos evidenciam que tanto presença de tensões compressivas como contribuições de defeitos associados com o Bi dependem do tipo de dopagem e orientação cristalina do substrato utilizado, afetando consideravelmente as propriedades ópticas dos filmes de GaAsBi.

Um exemplo de destaque desta classe é o ZIF-8 formado por íons zinco e o ligante 2-metilimidazol. Este material apresenta alta estabilidade química, além das características comuns dos MOFs. Quando aquecido acima de ~450 °C, a oxidação dos íons Zn do ZIF-8 gera ZnO com alta porosidade devido a estrutura do precursor, enquanto a degradação do ligante orgânico leva a formação de uma matriz de carbono condutor. A presença do carbono condutor pode melhorar as propriedades elétricas deste material resultante, o que pode auxiliar em diversas aplicações deste semicondutor. Por este motivo, neste trabalho foram testados três métodos para a formação de ZnO derivado de ZIF-8 de forma localizada, com boa resolução espacial, visando sua aplicação em dispositivos baseados em filmes finos. Os métodos utilizados foram: a Oxidação Anódica Local, utilizando um microscópio de AFM, o tratamento com laser acoplado a um espectrômetro Raman e o tratamento térmico baseado no Efeito Joule em dispositivos fabricados usando técnicas de microfabricação e deposição de filmes finos. A estrutura cristalina dos filmes depositados foi avaliada por DRX, confirmando a formação de ZIF-8. Após o tratamento térmico, houve um grande encolhimento da estrutura, como visto em imagens de topografia obtidas por AFM. Os grupos funcionais presentes no filme também sofreram mudanças, como observado por espectroscopia Raman, com o surgimento de dois picos característicos do ZnO. Foi observada uma grande mudança no comportamento elétrico dos filmes, com um aumento de pelo menos cinco ordens de grandeza na corrente máxima alcançada em curvas I vs V de 0 a 2 V realizadas em um analisador de semicondutores. Metal Organic Frameworks (MOF) are a class of materials that have attracted great attention in recent decades due to its characteristic’s high porosity, crystallinity, and versatility with wide possibilities of functionalization. These compounds are formed by a metallic center, composed of an ion or cluster, coordinated to organic ligands. A prominent example of this class is ZIF-8, which is formed by zinc ions and 2-methylimidazole as ligand. This material has high chemical and physical stability in addition to the most common characteristics of MOFs. When heated above ~450 °C, Zn ions oxidation leads to ZnO formation, with high porosity due to precursor structure, while organic ligand degradation leads to a conductive carbon matrix formation. Conductive carbon presence can improve the electrical properties of the resulting material, which can be an advantage in several applications of this semiconductor. In this work, three methods for the formation of ZnO derived from ZIF-8 with spatial resolution were tested, aiming its application in thin-film-based devices. The treatment methods were: Local Anodic Oxidation (LAO) using an atomic force microscope (AFM), laser treatment coupled to a Raman spectrometer and thermal treatment based on Joule Heating on devices manufactured by photolithography. The films’ crystalline structure was analyzed by XRD, and the formation of ZIF-8 was confirmed. After thermal treatment a large structure shrinkage was observed in topography images obtained by AFM. The functional groups present in the films suffered changes as observed through Raman spectroscopy. After treatment two peaks belonging to ZnO were seen. Electrical behavior of the films was compared before and after thermal treatment using a semiconductor analyzer and a probe station. An increase of at least five orders of magnitude was observed for the maximum current obtained in IvsV curves from 0 to 2V.

O conhecimento e aplicação de diferentes métodos permite maior controle sobre as propriedades do produto final. Dentre os diversos métodos de preparação, os métodos sol-gel são simples e requerem baixo investimento em equipamento e treinamento na produção de filmes óxidos, o que torna este método interessante para preparação de filmes em diversas escalas, de industrial à acadêmica. Os resultados apresentados aqui, focaram na preparação de filmes de TiO2 , assim como heteroestruturas deste óxido acoplado a SnO2 . A literatura existente sobre esses materiais é extensa e forneceu ampla base a partir da qual foi desenvolvido o método proposto. O método proposto envolveu o controle de parâmetros como escolha de solventes, composição e concentração das fases, viscosidade, pH, velocidade de deposição, tipo de substrato, entre outros para preparação do sistema de duas fases, e o estudo dos efeitos desse método sobre as características elétricas e estruturais dos filmes produzidos são inéditos. Na aplicação de filmes de TiO2 em fotocatálise, filmes depositados pelo método proposto atingiram uma maior eficiência na degradação de azul de metileno devido a mudança em mecânismos de drenagem e à formação de canais eletrônicos em heterojunções formadas, observadas também em heteroestruturas. Investigações de filmes de TiO2 dopados com lantanídeos revelaram novo mecanismo de controle da transição anatase-rutilo assim como um aumento da energia de Urbach relacionado à presença de estados intrabandgap. O método de deposição proposto ainda complementa o método convencional com nova gama de parâmetros para elaboração e desenvolvimento em áreas de sensoriamento de gás, com melhor manipulação de sua superfície, dispositivos eletrônicos transparentes tais como transistores de efeito de campo (FETs) e capacitores. Thin films posses a variety of applications in many fields and technologies and a multitude of methods to prepare such films for these applications. The sol-gel methods have as advantages its simplicity in the production of oxide films and a lower budget requirement for equipment, becoming interesting as deposition method for films in an industrial scale as well as in academic research. The goal of this work was to study the effects and possible advantages and disadvantages of dip-coating deposition via a two-phase system, applying this proposed method to prepare TiO2 films as well as heterostructures comprised of SnO2 and TiO2 as well as explore this method as a doping procedure. The existing literature developed around these materials is extensive and provides ample base from which to experiment with the proposed method. Aiming for the development of a deposition method that may allow for greater control of thin film properties, several parameters were varied such as: solvent choice, composition and concentration of material in phases, viscosity, pH, deposition speed, substrate, and others. The study of the effects of such method in the films electrical and morphological properties is new and results have shown an increased efficiency on the photocatalitical degradation of methylene blue, with draining regimen changing without a change in deposition speed. The investigation of TiO2 thin films doped with lanthanides has shown a control mechanism in the anatase-rutile transition as well as an increase in the Urbach energy related to intrabandgap states. The proposed deposition method aims to complement the conventional deposition method with a new array of parameters to further develop areas such as gas sensing, with better surface control, and transparent electronic devices, such as field effect transistors (FETs) and capacitors. 2019/00683-7

Sendo este material amplamente utilizado para aplicações fotocatalíticas, filmes de TiO2 depositados por RF sputtering reativo foram submetidos a testes de fotocatálise e avaliados. Com o objetivo de avaliar a estabilidade da atividade fotocatalítica, um primeiro com conjunto de filmes de TiO2 foi escolhido. Os filmes correspondentes foram submetidos a 16 ciclos de fotocatálise, totalizando-se mais de 100 horas de exposição. Não foram observadas perdas sistemáticas na atividade fotocatalítica dessas amostras. Esses resultados indicam que as amostras de TiO2 depositadas pela técnica de sputtering são estáveis quanto à exposição à irradiação UV em solução contendo azul de metileno. Com o intuito de promover melhoras na eficiência da atividade fotocatalítica, um segundo conjunto de filmes de TiO2 foi analisado. Amostras foram feitas sob regime de interrupção do fluxo de O2 durante as deposições por sputtering reativo. Essas interrupções duraram 10 s, 38 s, 45 s e 70 s, produzindo filmes que contém uma modulação do conteúdo de oxigênio ao longo do eixo de crescimento. Nos testes de fotocatálise, foi utilizada uma solução aquosa de azul de metileno e lâmpadas UV de vapor de mercúrio. Verificou-se uma melhora da atividade fotocatalítica em amostras desse segundo conjunto de filmes, que foram depositados sob regime de interrupções do fluxo de O2, quando comparadas com o TiO2 homogêneo, ou seja, que foi depositado sob fluxo contínuo de O2. A melhor resposta fotocatalítica foi observada na amostra correspondente a interrupções de 10 s. Os resultados mostram que a quantidade de corante degradado aumentou em média 1,67 vezes na amostra de fluxo interrompido por 10 s em comparação com o filme homogêneo de TiO2 depositado em condições semelhantes. Nesse sentido, pôde-se concluir que os filmes depositados por sputtering são quimicamente estáveis e que o procedimento de depositar os filmes sob interrupções do fluxo de O2 pode produzir melhorias significativas na atividade dos fotocatalisadores à base de TiO2. Titanium dioxide, TiO2, is a semiconductor used in different types of applications, such as gas sensors, solar cells and especially in photocatalysis, the object of study in this work. Since this material is widely used for photocatalytic applications, TiO2 films deposited by reactive RF sputtering were subjected to photocatalysis tests and evaluated. A first set of TiO2 films was chosen and evaluated according to the stability of the photocatalytic activity and submitted to several cycles of photocatalysis. After 16 cycles of photocatalysis, totaling more than 100 hours of exposure, no systematic losses were observed in the photocatalytic activity of these samples. These results indicate that the TiO2 samples deposited by the sputtering technique are stable concerning the exposure to UV irradiation in a solution containing methylene blue dye. The second set of TiO2 films was deposited under O2 flow interruption regime during depositions by reactive sputtering. These interruptions lasted 10 s, 38 s, 45 s, and 70 s, producing films that contain a modulation of the oxygen content along the growth axis. In the photocatalysis tests, an aqueous solution of methylene blue and UV mercury vapor lamps were used. There was an improvement in the photocatalytic activity in samples of this second set of films, which were deposited under the O2 flow interruption regime, when compared with the homogeneous TiO2, that is, which was deposited under continuous O2 flow. The best photocatalytic response was observed in the sample corresponding to 10 s interruptions. The results show that the amount of degraded dye increased by an average of 1.67 times in the flow interrupted sample for 10 s compared to the homogeneous TiO2 film deposited under similar conditions. In this sense, it was concluded that the films deposited by sputtering are chemically stable and that the simple procedure of depositing the films under O2 interruptions flow can produce significant improvements in the photocatalytic activity of the TiO2-based photocatalysts.

Electroactive materials based on conductive polymers are promising options for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. In the present work, the conducting copolymers of poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) and poly (d, l-lactic acid) (PEDOT-co-PDLLA) with PEDOT:PDLLA molar ratios of 1:50, 1:25, and 1:5 were synthesized and compared to the insulating macromonomer of EDOT-PDLLA as an experimental control. Bone marrow-derived human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC-BM) were cultured on the copolymers and the macromonomer thin films inside a bioreactor that induced a capacitive electrical stimulation (CES) with an electric field of 100 mV/mm for 2 h per day for 21 days. Under CES, the copolymers exhibited good cell viability and promoted the differentiation from hMSC-BM to osteogenic lineages, revealed by higher mineralization mainly when the contents of conducting segments of PEDOT (i.e., copolymer with 1:25 and 1:5 PEDOT:PDLLA ratios) were increased. The results indicate that the intrinsic electrical conductivity of the substrates is an important key point for the effectiveness of the electric field generated by the CES, intending to promote the differentiation effect for bone cells.

Orientador: Ângela Maria Moraes Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Química Resumo: Neste trabalho propõe-se a formulação de filmes mucoadesivos polissacarídicos contendo extrato da planta Arrabidaea chica (Ac), um agente bioativo com propriedades anti-inflamatórias e antimicrobianas, para o tratamento de lesões na mucosa. Foram produzidas matrizes na forma de blendas pela combinação de quitosana (Q) ao alginato (A), goma de cajueiro purificada (GC) e goma xantana (X), reticuladas com cloreto de cálcio, avaliando-se a influência da composição polissacarídica, da presença do extrato de Ac e da reticulação em características relevantes para a aplicação desejada, como ângulo de contato, propriedades mecânicas, grau de intumescimento, eficiência de incorporação e liberação do agente bioativo. Foram produzidas formulações com diferentes proporções em massa: QA (1:1), QAGC (1:0,5:0,5), QAX (1:0,5:0,5), QX (1:1), sendo que as duas primeiras foram testadas com o extrato de Ac incorporado à sua estrutura, na proporção de 10% de extrato em relação à massa polimérica, sendo denominadas de QAAc e QAGCAc, e para esta última foram analisadas amostras sem reticulação secundária, denominada QAGCAc-SRS. Os resultados demonstraram que a adição de Ac ao filme de QA levou a um aumento do ângulo de contato do filme, de 40,2° e para 70,4°. O extrato também reduziu a resistência à tração e elasticidade do filme de QA, provavelmente devido às suas interações com os grupos hidroxila dos polímeros, reduzindo o número de ligações de hidrogênio entre as cadeias polissacarídicas. A substituição parcial do A pela GC alterou o mecanismo de liberação dos filmes de QAAc de transporte de caso II, em que o desprendimento das cadeias e a erosão da matriz governam a cinética de liberação, para difusão Fickiana, para a qual a difusão é o principal fenômeno. A X, por outro lado, não se mostrou eficiente como substituinte parcial do A, pois reduziu a resistência à tração e o módulo de elasticidade do biomaterial e não possibilitou a obtenção de filmes estáveis com QA contendo Ac. Por fim, a reticulação secundária, uma das etapas da formação dos filmes, mostrou-se relevante na cinética de liberação, já que a única formulação que não passou por esta etapa foi a que apresentou maior percentual de Ac liberada, cerca de 68% Abstract: This work proposes the formulation of polysaccharide mucoadhesive films containing extract of the plant Arrabidaea chica (Ac), a bioactive agent that has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, for the treatment of mucosal lesions. Different blends combining chitosan (Q), alginate (A), purified cashew gum (GC) and xanthan gum (X) were analyzed, cross-linked with calcium chloride, to evaluate the influence of polysaccharide composition, the presence of Ac extract and cross-linking conditions on characteristics relevant to the desired application, such as contact angle, mechanical properties, degree of swelling, efficiency of incorporation and release of the bioactive agent. The following formulations were produced, with different proportions by mass: QA (1:1), QAGC (1:0.5:0.5), QAX (1:0.5:0.5), QX (1:1). The two first were tested with the Ac extract incorporated into its structure, in the proportion of 10% of extract in relation to the polymeric mass, being called QAAc and QAGCAc, and, for the QAGCAc, a formulation without secondary crosslinking called QAGCAc-SRS was produced. The results showed that the addition of Ac to the QA film led to an increase in the membrane contact angle, which raised from 40.2° to 70.4°. The plant extract also reduced the tensile strength and elasticity of the QA film, probably due to its interactions with the hydroxyl groups of the polymers, reducing the number of hydrogen bonds formed between the polysaccharide chains. The partial replacement of A by GC was able to change the release mechanism of QAAc films from case II transport, in which chain detachment and matrix erosion are the phenomena that drive the release kinetics, to Fickian diffusion, in which diffusion is the main phenomenon. X, on the other hand, was not efficient as a partial substituent of A, since it reduced the biomaterial tensile strength and elastic modulus and did not allow the obtaining of stable films with QA containing Ac. Finally, secondary crosslinking, one of the steps in the formation of the films, proved to be an important factor for the release kinetics, since the only formulation that did not go through this step was the one with the highest percentage of Ac released, about 68% Mestrado Engenharia Química Mestre em Engenharia Química CNPQ 130574/2020-1

Dessa forma, pesquisas têm avaliado o desenvolvimento de filmes de amido e carboximetilcelulose (CMC), contudo suas propriedades resultantes ainda precisam ser aprimoradas. Neste contexto, este trabalho teve o objetivo de avaliar a incorporação de Óleo de Buriti (OB) e Yucca schidigera (YS) em filme a base de amido de mandioca, carboximetilcelulose (CMC) e glicerol para a produção de filmes emulsionados. Executou-se um planejamento experimental central composto rotacional (DCCR) como ferramenta para selecionar um dos protocolos de síntese de filmes emulsionados, em que as variáveis dependentes (respostas) estudadas foram a espessura, resistência à tensão, elasticidade, solubilidade em água, permeabilidade ao vapor de água, opacidade e cor, e as variáveis independentes foram os teores de OB e YS (variando entre 0,138 a 0,562 g/100mL e 0,034 a 0,346 g/100mL, respectivamente). As formulações que apresentaram melhor resistência à tensão, solubilidade em água e permeabilidade ao vapor de água foram selecionadas e caracterizadas quanto suas propriedades estruturais, sendo elas microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e espectroscopia de absorção no infravermelho (ATR-FTIR). Os principais efeitos observados foram a diminuição da elasticidade e melhora do reforço físico, confirmado pelos resultados obtidos para resistência à tensão, solubilidade e permeabilidade ao vapor de água. Os filmes emulsionados apresentaram uma diminuição da elasticidade e solubilidade em aproximadamente 68% e 70%, respectivamente, quando comparado ao filme base. Por outro lado, nota-se o aumento significativo (p < 0,05) da resistência à tensão que se elevou de 0,86 MPa (filme base) para até 10,31 MPa (filme 8). Para mais, comparados ao filme base, os filmes emulsionados apresentaram uma diminuição da permeabilidade ao vapor de água em até 46%. Com relação aos resultados obtidos para cor e opacidade, apresentaram aumento de acordo com a elevação da composição de OB e YS na composição do filme. As análises de MEV e ATR-FTIR confirmaram modificações estruturais nos filmes emulsionados em relação ao filme base, principalmente a formação de uma estrutura coesa e uniforme que influenciou nas propriedades físicas e mecânicas discutidas. Portanto, os resultados obtidos apontaram para capacidade de OB e YS de aprimorar as características dos filmes de amido e CMC, sugerindo aplicabilidade desses filmes emulsionados em embalagens primárias e secundárias de alimentos, utilizando fontes renováveis. Abstract: Environmental problems related to the use of packaging made from synthetic polymers have driven the search for raw materials from natural resources to produce these materials. Thus, researches have evaluated the development of starch and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) films, however their resulting properties still need to be improved. In this context, this work aimed to evaluate the incorporation of Buriti Oil (OB) and Yucca schidigera (YS) in cassava starch, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and glycerol-based film for the production of emulsified films. A rotational composite central experimental design (CCRD) was performed as a tool to select one of the emulsified film synthesis protocols, in which the dependent variables (responses) studied were thickness, tensile strength, elasticity, water solubility, permeability to water vapor, opacity and color, and the independent variables were the levels of OB and YS (ranging from 0.138 to 0.562 g/100mL and 0.034 to 0.346 g/100mL, respectively). The formulations that showed the best tensile strength, water solubility and water vapor permeability were selected and characterized in terms of their structural properties, namely scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and infrared absorption spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR). The main effects observed were the reduction of elasticity and improvement of the physical reinforcement, confirmed by the results obtained for resistance to tension, solubility and permeability to water vapor. The emulsified films showed a decrease in elasticity and solubility of approximately 68% and 70%, respectively, when compared to the base film. On the other hand, there was a significant increase (p < 0.05) in tensile strength, which rose from 0.86 MPa (base film) to up to 10.31 MPa (film 8). In addition, compared to the base film, the emulsified films showed a decrease in water vapor permeability by up to 46%. Regarding the results obtained for color and opacity, they showed an increase according to the increase in the composition of OB and YS in the composition of the film. The SEM and ATR-FTIR analyzes confirmed structural changes in the emulsified films in relation to the base film, mainly the formation of a cohesive and uniform structure that influenced the physical and mechanical properties discussed. Therefore, the results obtained pointed to the ability of OB and YS to improve the characteristics of starch and CMC films, suggesting the applicability of these emulsified films in primary and secondary food packaging, using renewable sources.

Esta dissertação tem como objetivo investigar as propriedades magnéticas estáticas e dinâmicas em filmes de CoZr com diferentes espessuras e concentrações de Zr. Os filmes, fabricados pelo método de magnetron sputtering, têm suas propriedades dinâmicas investigadas através da técnica de ressonância ferromagnética por analisador de rede vetorial (VNA-FMR) numa faixa de frequências entre 10 MHz e 8 GHz e para campos estáticos entre ±300 Oe. Essa técnica foi realizada com a aplicação de dois diferentes métodos de detecção de ressonância: a análise do espectro de potência eletromagnética absorvida e a análise do espectro de permeabilidade magnética efetiva complexa. Os resultados de ambos os métodos são obtidos em função da frequência e campo aplicado através da implementação de algoritmos de tratamento de dados. Posteriormente, simulações micromagnéticas de ressonância são realizadas para a verificação dos resultados obtidos e são comparadas aos resultados experimentais. Foram fabricadas uma série de filmes com concentração de 4% de Zr e outra com 8% de Zr. As espessuras dos filmes variaram entre 13,2 nm e 112,7 nm. Esses valores de espessuras foram escolhidos devido à falta de estudos sobre a dinâmica de magnetização de filmes de CoZr para espessuras inferiores a 100 nm. Foram obtidos os campos de anisotropia, as magnetizações de saturação e os parâmetros de amortecimento de precessão dos filmes investigados e esses resultados foram comparados para as diferentes espessuras e concentrações. This dissertation aims to investigate the static and dynamic magnetic properties of CoZr films with different thicknesses and concentrations of Zr. The films, deposited using magnetron sputtering, were investigated using the vector network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance technique (VNA-FMR) with frequencies ranging from 10 MHz to 8 GHz and applied fields in the range of ±300 Oe. This technique was used with two different methods of resonance measurements: analysis of the absorbed electromagnetic power spectra and analysis of the complex effective magnetic permeability spectra. Both methods are used to obtain data as a function of frequency and applied field through the implementation of data treatment algorithms. Later, micromagnetic simulations of resonance will be made to verify and compare the experimentally obtained results. Two sets of films were fabricated, one with a concentration of 4% of Zr and the other with 8% of Zr. The film thicknesses ranged from 13.2 nm up to 112.7 nm. Those thicknesses were chosen because of the lack of magnetization dynamics studies for CoZr films with thicknesses smaller than 100 nm. Anisotropy fields, saturation magnetizations and the precession damping parameters were obtained for the studied films and the results were compared for the different thicknesses and concentrations.

Orientador: Fernando Alvarez Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Física Gleb Wataghin Resumo: Nitreto de boro hexagonal (h-BN) é formado pela alternância de átomos de nitrogênio e boro em uma rede hexagonal, onde os átomos estão ligados por ligações covalentes e as camadas por forças de interação de van der Waals (vdW). Este material, na forma de monocamada, possui alta energia de bandgap (~6 eV), enquanto que, como filme fino esse valor fica ~4,5 eV. Devido à essa propriedade, ele é comumente usado em heteroestruturas para aplicações eletrônicas e ópticas, como dispositivos emissores e detectores de UV profundo. h-BN também serve como uma interface para redução da flutuação de cargas, camada de passivação, camada dielétrica e é considerado a interface mais compatível para ancorar o grafeno. Neste estudo, filmes finos de h-BN nanoestruturados foram obtidos por pulverização catódica de rádio frequência e amostras selecionadas foram depositadas com auxílio da técnica de deposição dinâmica angular (do inglês, dinamic glancing angle deposition, DGLAD), na qual o substrato oscila em frente ao alvo numa função definida por um sistema de controlador lógico programável. Através da alteração dos parâmetros de deposição, como polarização do substrato, teor de hidrogênio na mistura gasosa constituinte do plasma e oscilação do substrato, as propriedades ópticas e estruturais desses materiais são adaptadas, o que é desejado para diferentes aplicações, como dispositivos de captura de luz e heterojunções. Os resultados obtidos mostraram a formação de filmes com estrutura turbostratic e policristalina (nanocristais). A inserção de hidrogênio no plasma durante as deposições resultou na diminuição do teor de oxigênio residual dos filmes de ~12–5% e, consequente aumento do tamanho do cristalito de ~6–16 nm, uma vez que, a diminuição do conteúdo de oxigênio favorece a formação de ligações entre boro e nitrogênio. Os valores de energia de bandgap amorfo aumentaram de ~3,7–4,2 eV para as amostras depositadas com uso de DGLAD indicando que existe uma relação direta entre o ângulo de incidência das espécies constituintes do filme na reestruturação do material, mudando as distâncias interatômicas e, consequentemente, a estrutura eletrônica de bandas. Alterações nas características morfológicas foram visíveis por microscopia eletrônica de varredura e imagens topográficas de microscopia de força atômica, indicando um perfil de crescimento típico de nanowalls. Enfim, conclui-se que a técnica DGLAD é uma rota alternativa eficaz na obtenção de materiais inovadores como h-BN permitindo um fino ajuste de suas propriedades estruturais e energia de bandgap Abstract: Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) is formed by alternating nitrogen and boron atoms in a hexagonal lattice, where the atoms are linked by strong covalent bonds and the layers by van der Waals (vdW) interactions forces. This material, in monolayers form has a high bandgap energy (~6 eV), while as thin films it has ~4.5 eV. Due to this property, it is commonly used in heterostructures for electronic and optical applications such as deep UV emitting devices and detectors. h-BN also serves as an interface for charge fluctuation reduction, passivation layers, dielectric layer, tunnel barrier, and it is considered the most compatible interface to anchor graphene. In this study, nanostructured h-BN thin films were obtained by radio frequency magnetron sputtering and select samples were deposited by Dynamics Glazing Angle Deposition (DGLAD) technique, in which substrate oscillates in front of sputtering target in a function defined by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system. Through changing deposition parameters such as substrate polarization, hydrogen content in the gas mixture that constitutes the plasma, and substrate oscillation, optical and structural properties of these materials are adapted. That is desired for different applications, such as light capture devices and heterojunctions. The obtained results showed the formation of films with turbostratic and polycrystalline structures (nanocrystals). Hydrogen insertion into the plasma during depositions resulted in a decrease of residual oxygen content of the films by ~12–5% and, consequently, an increase in crystallite size from 6–16 nm. Decreasing oxygen content favors the formation of bonds between boron and nitrogen. Amorphous bandgap energy values increased from ~3.7 –4.2 eV for samples deposited using DGLAD indicating that there is a direct relationship between the angle of incidence of the films constituent species casing a restructuring of the material, changing interatomic distances and, consequently, the electronic band structure. Changes in morphological characteristics were visible by scanning electron microscopy and topographic images by atomic force microscopy, indicating a typical growth profile of nanowalls. Finally, it is concluded that the DGLAD technique is an effective and alternative route to obtain innovative materials such as h-BN allowing a fine tuning of their structural properties and bandgap energy Mestrado Física Aplicada Mestra em Física CAPES 88887.473650/2020-00

JAY, CAF and FA are CNPq fellows Abstract: This study combines the brand new concept of high-entropy designed materials with the superior properties of metallic glasses to obtain a NbTaTiVZr high-entropy metallic glass (HEMG) coating for biomedical applications. The amorphous structure is achieved by a room temperature magnetron sputtering deposition, whereas a bcc crystalline phase, typical of high-entropy alloys (HEA), is obtained at 400 degrees C. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that the oxygen concentration on the coatings surface is > 50% and significantly higher than in the bulk (similar to 5%). The NbTaTiVZr(O) HEMG surface is completely passivated, in contrast to the metallic + oxide outermost layer found for the HEA. Potentiodynamic polarization tests attested an improved corrosion resistance of the HEMG surface, which showed also increased hydrophilicity compared to the crystalline sample. In vitro biocompatibility investigations using both the hTERT-immortalized bone marrow mesenchymal cells and MG-63 osteosarcoma cells showed excellent viability (similar to 98% and similar to 96%, respectively) and adhesion onto the HEMG coating after 96 h of incubation, indicating the integrity and biosafety of this surface. The cell viability and proliferation on the HEA and Ti (used as a benchmark) surfaces were much inferior. Orientador: Carlos César Bof Bufon Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Química Resumo: Estruturas metal-orgânicas (MOFs) são materiais porosos híbridos formados pela ligação de ligantes orgânicos com clusters metálicos via química de coordenação. Sua estrutura apresenta propriedades únicas, como alta cristalinidade, área superficial e porosidade. Nas últimas décadas, a expansão do campo da nanotecnologia vem destacando as vantagens da miniaturização de dispositivos, microfabricação e deposição de filmes finos. Da mesma forma, o interesse em integrar filme finos de MOFs em plataformas é crescente, o que permite explorar suas propriedades e aplicá-los como dispositivos funcionais. As Estruturas Metal-orgânicas Suportadas em Superfície (SURMOFs) surgiram como uma solução para sintetizar um filme homogêneo, uniforme e com espessura controlada. Embora os SURMOFs tenham sido criados visando a integração de dispositivos, pouco foi feito visando explorá-los em dispositivos eletrônicos, principalmente espessuras inferiores a 100 nm. Nesse trabalho, exploramos a integração e caracterização elétrica de SURMOFs em dispositivos eletrônicos. O HKUST-1 SURMOF foi a estrutura aplicada, devido a sua vasta informação na literatura. Aqui, um estudo completo é realizado, incluindo como a natureza do substrato e o comprimento da cadeia de monocamadas automontadas (SAM) podem influenciar no crescimento do filme de HKUST-1. Relatamos aqui a primeira abordagem experimental para síntese de filmes finos SURMOF homogêneos ancorados por SAM em uma superfície isolante. Além disso, o crescimento do HKUST-1 SURMOF foi parametrizado e adaptado ao processo de microfabricação e integração em heterojunções verticais baseados em nanomembranas. Estabelecemos uma parametrização completa do crescimento dos filmes finos dos SURMOFs, atingindo filmes homogêneos com espessura de aproximadamente 10 nm. O HKUST-1 SURMOF integrado nas heterojunções verticais foi aplicado como template para a reação de polimerização controlada do PPy dentro de seus poros, resultando em um filme homogêneo e totalmente dopado. O desempenho do dispositivo atingiu uma condutividade elétrica de cerca de 5,10-6 S/m sob 24h de exposição ao vapor de monômero, aumentando 7 ordens de magnitude da corrente elétrica em comparação com as junções verticais HKUST-1 SURMOF puro. Realizamos uma investigação adicional dos mecanismos de transporte elétrico sob baixas temperaturas. Os trabalhos desenvolvidos durante o doutorado estabeleceram um campo de pesquisa consolidado sobre SURMOFs em dispositivos eletrônicos, e os achados aqui relatados expandiram o uso desses materiais na área da eletrônica Abstract: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are hybrid porous materials formed by assembling organic linkers and metal clusters via coordination chemistry. Their structure exhibits unique properties, like high crystallinity, surface area, and porosity. In the last decades, the expansion of the nanotechnology field has highlighted the advantages of devices miniaturization, microfabrication, and thin film deposition. In the same direction, the interest in integrating MOFs into platforms as thin films has grown, which allows exploring their properties and applying them as functional devices. The Surface-supported Metal-Organic Frameworks (SURMOFs) have come up as a solution to apply a homogeneous, uniform film with controlled thickness. Although SURMOFs were created aiming for devices integration, there is a lack of effort in exploring them in electrical devices, especially aiming thicknesses less than 100 nm. This Ph.D. thesis focus on the integration and electrical characterization of SURMOFs on electrical devices. The HKUST-1 SURMOF was the applied structure, due to its vast information in the literature. Here, a complete study is carried out, including how substrate nature and self-assembled monolayer (SAM) chain length can influence HKUST-1 growth. To the best of our knowledge, we reported the first experimental approach to grow homogeneous SURMOF thin films anchored by SAM on an insulating surface with precise control. Moreover, the HKUST-1 SURMOF growth was controlled to match the microfabrication process and integration on nanomembrane vertical heterojunctions. We established a full parametrization of SURMOFs thin-films growth, reaching homogeneous, low-roughness films with thickness of around 10 nm. The HKUST-1 SURMOF integrated on the vertical heterojunctions were applied as templates for controlled polymerization reaction of PPy inside their pores, leading to a homogeneous and full doped film. The device performance reached an electrical conductivity of about 5.10-6 S/m under 24h of exposure to monomer vapor, showing an increment of electrical current about 7 orders of magnitude compared to pristine HKUST-1 SURMOF vertical junctions. We performed a further investigation of electrical transport mechanisms under low temperatures. The work developed during the Ph.D. has established a consolidated research field about SURMOFs on electronic devices, and the findings reported here expanded the use of MOFs/SURMOFs materials in the electronics Doutorado Físico-Química Doutora em Ciências FAPESP 2016/25346-5; 2019/01561-2

Acceptor copolymers with low lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels are key materials for organic electronics. In the present work, quaternization of pyridine-flanked diketopyrrolopyrrole (PyDPPPy) is used to lower the LUMO energy level of the resulting monomer (MePyDPPPy) by as much as 0.7 eV. The drastically changed electronic properties of MePyDPPPy hinder a second methylation step even in an excess of trimethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate and thereby give access to the asymmetric functionalization of N-heterocycle-flanked DPP building blocks. The corresponding n-type polymeric ionene PMePyDPPPyT2 with bithiophene as comonomer forms thixotropic organogels with the p-type polythiophene P(g42T-TT), indicative of specific cross-interactions between this couple of copolymers. Gelation of polymer blend solutions, which is absent for other couples of p-type/ n-type polymers, is of general interest for (co)processing and orientation of different electronic polymers simultaneously into films or filaments. Detailed optical and electronic characterization reveals that films processed from organogels exhibit ground-state electron transfer (GSET) enabled by suitably positioned highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and LUMO energy levels of P(g42T-TT) (−4.07 eV) and PMePyDPPPyT2 (−4.20 eV), respectively. Furthermore, molecular interactions related to gelation and GSET do not appear to significantly influence the morphology of the polymer blend films.

Defesa : Curitiba, 24/02/2022 Inclui referências Resumo: Nanocompósitos formados por nanocristais de NiSi2 em Si monocristalino têm atraído a atenção de diversos pesquisadores devido ao potencial deste material para aplicações em nanotecnologia. No entanto, os métodos atualmente aplicados em sua preparação às vezes não impedem a aglomeração desses nanocristais e requerem instrumentação sofisticada. Esta tese teve como objetivos: (i) desenvolver um método original e alternativo para a preparação de nanocristais de NiSi2 isolados e ordenados, endotaxialmente crescidos em wafers de silício e (ii) o estudo deste nanocompósito utilizando diversas técnicas experimentais para determinar sua morfologia, estrutura, composição química e a cinética de crescimento das nanopartículas. No método proposto, um filme fino de SiO2 dopado com Ni, preparado pelo processo sol-gel, foi depositado sobre a superfície de wafers de Si(001) nos quais a camada de óxido nativo havia sido removida. Os tratamentos térmicos durante a preparação da amostra permitiram a difusão dos átomos de Ni e através da interface filme-wafer, que reagiram com os átomos de Si do wafer para formar os nanocristais de siliceto. Amostras submetidas a tratamentos térmicos a 500 °C por 40 min foram estudadas por AFM, SEM, XEDS, XRR, STEM e GISAXS. As técnicas de AFM e SEM/XEDS foram utilizadas para investigar a morfologia da superfície, bem como a composição do filme fino. A técnica de XRR foi usada para determinar a porosidade do filme fino. Imagens de STEM permitiram determinar o tamanho e a forma das nanopartículas incorporadas no filme fino e no wafer de Si, próximo à sua superfície externa. As imagens de STEM mostraram que nanoplacas, com a forma de hexágonos quase regulares, estão enterradas em uma fina camada abaixo da superfície do wafer de Si. As faces hexagonais dessas nanoplacas eram sempre paralelas a um dos quatro planos da forma cristalográfica {111} do Si com os valores médios da espessura e diâmetro diagonal máximo de 12,9 e 146 nm, respectivamente. As imagens de HR-STEM mostraram que as nanoplacas eram silicetos de Ni, todos da fase NiSi2. As interfaces entre as nanoplacas e a matriz hospedeira de Si são planas e têm configuração do tipo 7A. Imagens de STEM e HR-STEM também mostraram que nanopartículas esféricas, apresentando alguma dispersão de tamanho e raio médio igual a 1,56 nm, se formam no filme fino de SiO2 dopado com Ni e em uma camada corroída do wafer de Si próximo à sua superfície externa. A análise por FFT das imagens de HR-STEM dessas regiões mostrou que essas nanoesferas são nanocristais de Ni aleatoriamente orientadas, cuja presença já era esperada devido à difusão dos átomos de Ni inicialmente dispersos no filme fino. Também realizamos um estudo in situ por GISAXS para investigar a cinética de formação e crescimento das nanopartículas durante um tratamento isotérmico a 405 °C. Os resultados mostraram que as nanoplacas de NiSi2 crescem muito rapidamente, atingindo o seu tamanho final após cerca de 15 minutos de tratamento. Por outro lado, a formação de novas nanoplacas ocorre durante um tempo muito maior (~1 hora). No que se refere aos nanocristais esféricos de Ni, os resultados de GISAXS in situ sugerem que o seu crescimento ocorre nos poros do filme fino de SiO2 e na camada corroída com o seu tamanho final limitado pelo tamanho desses poros. Abstract: Nanocomposites formed by NiSi2 nanocrystals embedded in single-crystalline Si have attracted the attention of several researchers due to the potential of this material for applications in nanotechnology. However, current methods applied in their preparation sometimes do not prevent the agglomeration of these nanocrystals and require sophisticated instrumentation. This thesis aimed: (i) to propose an original and alternative method for the preparation of isolated and ordered NiSi2 nanocrystals that grown on silicon wafers and (ii) the study of this nanocomposite using several experimental techniques to determine its morphology, structure, composition, and kinetics of the nanoparticles growth. In the proposed method a Ni-doped SiO2 thin film, prepared by the sol-gel process, was deposited on the bare surface of Si(001) wafers. Thermal treatments during the sample preparation allow the Ni atoms to diffuse across the film-wafer interface, reacting with the Si atoms in the wafer to form the silicide nanocrystals. Samples submitted to thermal treatments at 500 °C for 40 minutes were studied by AFM, SEM, XEDS, XRR, STEM, and GISAXS. AFM and SEM/XEDS were applied to investigate the surface morphology as well as the composition of the thin film. XRR technique was used to determine the porosity of the thin film. STEM allowed us to determine the size and shape of the nanoparticles embedded in the thin film and Si wafer close to its external surface. The STEM images showed that nanoplates having the shape of near regular hexagons are buried in a thin layer below the surface of the Si wafer. The large surfaces of the nanoplates were always parallel to one of the four planes of the Si{111} crystallographic form. Its average thickness and maximum diagonal diameter are equal to 12.9 and 146 nm, respectively. HR-STEM images showed the hexagonal nanoplates were Ni silicides, all of them of the NiSi2 phase. The interfaces between the nanoplates and the Si host matrix are flat and have a coherent 7A-type configuration. STEM and HR-STEM images also showed that spherical nanoparticles presenting some size dispersion and mean radius equal to 1.56 nm are embedded in the Ni-doped SiO2 thin film and a corroded layer of the Si wafer close to its external surface. FFT analysis of HR-STEM images of these regions showed that these spherical particles are Ni nanocrystals randomly oriented, whose formation is expected as consequence of the Ni atoms initially dispersed in the Ni-doped SiO2 thin film. We also performed an in situ study by GISAXS to investigate the kinetics of formation and growth of the nanoparticles during an isothermal treatment at 405 °C. The results showed the NiSi2 nanoplates grow very rapidly reaching the final size after about 15 minutes of annealing. On the other hand, the formation of new nanoplates takes place during a much longer time (~1 hour). Regarding the spherical Ni nanocrystals, the results from in situ GISAXS suggest these nanoparticles grow in the pores of the SiO2 film and corroded layer with their final maximum size being limited by the size of these pores.

Neste trabalho, utilizamos a técnica de desbastamento iônico para produção de filmes finos ferromagnéticos policristalinos de cobalto, níquel com diferentes espessuras crescidos sobre substrato de Si(100) com óxido natural de silício (SiO2) em sua superfície. Estas amostras foram produzidas com o intuito de estudar a influência das propriedades estruturais e de anisotropias nas curvas de magnetização, ciclos de histereses, laços menores de histereses e curvas de remanência. Como resultados observamos que, para orientações angulares específicas entre o campo magnético aplicado H e o eixo de fácil magnetização das camadas ferromagnéticas, alguns laços menores de histerese (minor loops) tornam-se externos ao ciclo principal de histerese; este fenômeno foi denominado Recoil-Curve Overshoot (RCO) [1]. Para estas curvas, maiores valores de campo coercivo e magnetização remanente podem ser observados, resultando em um produto de energia B x H maior que do ciclo principal de histerese. Também é apresentada uma discussão sobre as causas deste fenômeno, sendo atribuídas ás interações magnéticas e dispersões de anisotropia. In this work we use the magnetron sputtering technique to produce polycrystalline ferromagnetic thin films of cobalt, nickel with different thicknesses, grown on Si(100) substrate with natural silicon oxide (SiO2) on its surface. These samples were produced in order to study the influence of structural and anisotropy properties on magnetization curves, hysteresis cycles, major and minor hysteresis loops and remanence curves. As a result we observe that, for specific angular orientations between the applied magnetic field H and the easy magnetization axis of the ferromagnetic layers, some minor hysteresis loops become external to the major hysteresis loop; this phenomenon was called Recoil-Curve Overshoot (RCO) [1]. For these curves, higher values of coercive field and remanent magnetization can be observe, resulting in an energy product B x H greater than the major hysteresis loop. A discussion about the cause of this phenomenon is also presented, being attributed to the magnetic interactions and anisotropy dispersions.

Polythiophenes can be classified as regioregular or regiorandom, which is determined by the position of their side chains in the polymer backbone, and the regioregular configuration is usually preferred for studies in organic electronic applications. There are few reports in the literature using regiorandom polythiophenes as active layers of devices, all with doped or composite materials. In this context, we have fabricated LangmuirSchaefer films of neutral regiorandom polyalkylthiophenes (P3AT), aiming to evaluate their electrical characteristics compared to the drop-casting technique. The goal was to test whether the Langmuir deposition technique could yield a higher level of organization, while still being mindful of their intrinsic disorder at the molecular level. As a proof-of-concept, the thin films were evaluated as gas sensing devices relying on their resistivity modulation in the presence of ammonia. Orientador: Americo Bortolazzo Correr Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Odontologia de Piracicaba Resumo: O objetivo neste estudo foi investigar a eficácia de filmes de diamante e de dióxido de titânio contra biofilmes de Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans), depositados em superfícies metálicas compatíveis com acessórios ortodônticos. Para isso, foram utilizados os tratamentos experimentais com filme de diamante CVD (DCVD) depositados via CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) e filme de dióxido de titânio (TiO2) depositados pelo Sputtering System. Para a avaliação do DCVD foram utilizados braquetes metálicos (Roth Max 0,022 polegadas, Morelli-BR) e para avaliação do TiO2 foram utilizados discos em aço inox 304 (10 mm de diâmetro e 2 mm de espessura), polidos e esterilizados. Os braquetes e os discos foram divididos em 2 grupos: sem tratamento (controle) e com tratamento (DCVD) ou (TiO2). Os filmes (DCVD e TiO2) foram caracterizados por espectroscopia Raman, microscopia de força atômica (AFM), difração de raios X (XRD), espectroscopia de fotoelétrons excitados por raios X (XPS) e molhabilidade; para o filme de TiO2 também foi realizada a análise eletroquímica. Culturas overnight de S. mutans (UA159) foram incubadas a 37°C em condições microanaeróbicas por 24 h, 48 h, 72 h e 7 dias. Os biofilmes foram analisados por coloração de cristal violeta (CV), contagem de unidades formadoras de colônias (CFU), ensaio de atividade metabólica (XTT), microscopia confocal de varredura a laser (CSLM) e microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV); para os filmes de DCVD, também foi realizada análise por microscopia eletrônica de transmissão (MET). Os resultados mostraram que os filmes de DCVD e TiO2, eram homogêneos e com fases cristalinas. O DCVD apresentou rugosidade quadrática média (RMS) maior do que o controle; no entanto, apresentou característica hidrofóbica. O filme de TiO2 exibiu menor rugosidade e maior característica hidrofóbica que o controle, e resistência ao processo corrosivo. O biofilme tratado com DCVD apresentou formação de maior massa de biofilme, mas com menor viabilidade bacteriana. As imagens de MEV, CLSM e a análise quantitativa confirmam esses resultados e as imagens de MET mostraram alterações morfológicas significativas nas estruturas celulares bacterianas na presença de DCVD. Os biofilmes tratados com TiO2 apresentaram menor crescimento e desenvolvimento do biofilme comparado ao controle para todos os tempos observados, sendo mais efetivos nos tempos de 24h, 48hs. As imagens de MEV, CLSM e a análise quantitativa confirmam esses resultados. Conclui-se que as películas de DCVD e TiO2 foram depositadas de modo eficiente e que os tratamentos com DCVD e TiO2 foram eficazes na inativação do S. mutans Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of diamond and titanium dioxide films against Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) biofilms deposited in orthodontic fixtures. Experimental treatments were used with CVD diamond film (DCVD) deposited via CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) and titanium dioxide film (TiO2) deposited by the Sputtering System. For the evaluation of CVD, metallic brackets (Roth Max 0.022 inches, Morelli-BR) were used and for the evaluation of TiO2 304 stainless steel discs (10 mm in diameter and 2 mm thick), polished and sterilized were used. Discs and brackets were divided into 2 groups: untreated (control) and treated (CVD) or (TiO2). The films (DCVD and TiO2) were characterized by AFM (roughness), Raman, XPS, XRD and wettability; for the TiO2 film, electrochemical analysis was also performed. Overnight cultures of S. mutans (UA159) were incubated at 37°C under anaerobic conditions for 24 h, 48 h, 72 h and 7 days. Biofilms were analyzed by crystal violet staining (CV), colony forming unit count (CFU), metabolic activity assay (XTT), confocal electron microscopy (CSLM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM); for the DCVD films, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis was also performed. The results showed that the films of DCVD and TiO2 were homogeneous and with crystalline phases. The CVD showed a mean square roughness (RMS) greater than the control; however, it presented a hydrophobic characteristic. The TiO2 film exhibited less roughness and greater hydrophobic characteristics than the control, and resistance to corrosive process. The biofilm treated with CVD showed formation of greater biofilm mass, but with lower bacterial viability. SEM, CLSM and quantitative analysis confirm these results and TEM images showed significant morphological changes in bacterial cell structures. Biofilms treated with TiO2 showed lower biofilm growth and development compared to the control, for all times observed, being more effective at times of 24h and 48h. SEM, CLSM and quantitative analysis images confirm these results. The morphological features of these films strongly depend on the growth conditions. Vertical or tilted nanopillars have been fabricated depending on whether the substrate is kept rotating azimuthally during deposition or not, respectively. The magnetic properties of these nanopillars films, such as hysteresis loops squareness, adjustable switching fields, magnetic anisotropy and coercivity, can be tuned with the specific morphology. In particular, the growth performed through a collimator mask mounted onto a not rotating azimuthally substrate produces almost isolated well-defined tilted nanopillars that exhibit a magnetic hardening. The first-order reversal curves diagrams and micromagnetic simulations revealed that a growth-induced uniaxial anisotropy, associated with an anisotropic surface morphology produced by the glancing angle deposition in the direction perpendicular to the atomic flux, plays an important role in the observed magnetic signatures. Granularity is one of the main features restricting the maximum current which a superconductor can carry without losses, persisting as an important research topic when applications are concerned. To directly observe its effects on a typical thin superconducting specimen, we have modeled the simplest possible granular system by fabricating a single artificial weak-link in the center of a high-quality Nb film using the focused ion beam technique. Then, its microstructural, magnetic, and electric properties in both normal and superconducting states were studied. AC susceptibility, DC magnetization, and magneto-transport measurements reveal well-known granularity signatures and how they negatively affect superconductivity. Moreover, we also investigate the normal state electron scattering mechanisms in the Boltzmann theory framework. The results clearly demonstrate the effect of the milling technique, giving rise to an additional quadratic-in-temperature contribution to the usual cubic-in-temperature sd band scattering for the Nb film. Finally, by analyzing samples with varying density of incorporated defects, the emergence of the additional contribution is correlated to a decrease in their critical temperature, in agreement with recent theoretical results.

CNPq - Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior Além de ser largamente utilizado em diversos setores da indústria moderna, o dióxido de titânio (TiO2) tem despertado grande interesse tecnológico, sendo vislumbrado como um componente no desenvolvimento de materiais autolimpantes. Diversas são as propriedades que influenciam a capacidade autolimpante de um recobrimento, dentre as quais se destacam uma superfície com molhabilidade adequada, além de uma efetiva atividade fotocatalítica, permitindo um melhor aproveitamento do espectro de radiação solar. Estratégias promissoras na busca pela adequação dessas propriedades morfológicas e estruturais podem envolver a modificação do TiO2 com metais, bem como a funcionalização de sua superfície. A fim de modular a molhabilidade do material final, foi realizada a síntese de filmes finos de TiO2 modificados com dois tipos de polidimetilsiloxanos (PDMS) diferentes, e por meio de duas rotas de modificação distintas. As amostras obtidas foram caracterizadas quanto a sua estrutura, morfologia, propriedades ópticas e de superfície. Variações significativas na molhabilidade e rugosidade foram observadas em alguns casos. Por exemplo, a amostra calcinada a 400 °C, após ser modificada com PDMS de terminação vinílica, teve seu ângulo de contato alterado de 29° para 124°, além de apresentar expressivo aumento de rugosidade, e uma funcionalização não uniforme ao longo da superfície do filme. Isso permitiu que esse recobrimento apresentasse caráter hidrofóbico e fotocatalítico simultaneamente, o que é bastante desejável. Na tentativa de alterar a região de absorção de radiação do TiO2 para energias menores, foram preparados filmes finos de TiO2 modificados com diferentes concentrações de CrCl3. Após a caracterização estrutural, morfológica, óptica, mecânica e de superfície desses filmes, observou-se que a adição de Cr3+ ao sistema causou modificação significativa nas propriedades do material final. A amostra calcinada a 500 °C e contendo 10% mol de Cr apresentou considerável diminuição no valor de band gap, atingindo valores correspondentes à região de radiação visível. A preparação de um filme do TiO2 modificado conjuntamente com CrCl3 e PDMS de terminação vinílica também foi realizada, permitindo a preparação de um recobrimento superhidrofóbico e potencialmente fotocatalítico. Foi realizada também a preparação de filmes finos de TiO2 modificados com dois tipos de precursores de molibdênio diferentes, em diferentes concentrações. Esse estudo se deu de modo a avaliar o impacto do tipo de precursor de molibdênio nas propriedades estruturais, morfológicas, ópticas e de superfície das amostras preparadas. Observou-se que todos os filmes apresentaram superhidrofilicidade mesmo sob luz visível, e que as propriedades estruturais, ópticas e morfológicas se mostraram distintas, a depender do precursor de molibdênio utilizado. Besides being widely used in several segments of modern industry, titanium dioxide (TiO2) has aroused great technological interest, being envisaged as a component of materials used as self-cleaning coatings. Several properties influence the self-cleaning ability of a coating, but a surface with acceptable wettability and an effective photocatalytic activity, allowing a better use of the entire spectrum of solar radiation, are determining factors in the development of a good self-cleaning surface. Promising strategies in the search for the adequacy of these morphological and structural properties may involve the TiO2 modification with metals, as well as the functionalization of its surface. With the purpose of modulating the wettability of the final material, synthesis of TiO2 thin films modified with two different types of polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS), and through two distinct modification routes, was carried out. The samples obtained were characterized in terms of their structure, morphology, optical and surface properties. Significant variations in wettability and roughness were observed in some cases. For example, the sample calcined at 400 °C, after being modified with the vinyl-terminated PDMS, had its contact angle changed from 29° to 124°, in addition to presenting a significant increase in roughness, and a non-uniform functionalization along the surface of the film. This allowed this coating to be simultaneously hydrophobic and photocatalytic, which is very desirable.In order to modify the region of titanium dioxide radiation absorption to lower energies, TiO2 thin films modified with CrCl3 different concentrations were prepared. After structural, morphological, optical, mechanical and surface characterization of these films, it was observed that the insertion of Cr3+ to the system caused a significant modification in the properties of the final material. The sample calcined at 500 °C and containing 10% mol Cr showed a pronounced decrease in the band gap, reaching values corresponding to the region of visible radiation. The preparation of a TiO2 film simultaneously modified with CrCl3 and vinyl-terminated PDMS was also carried out, allowing the preparation of a superhydrophobic and potentially photocatalytic coating. The preparation of TiO2 thin films modified with two different types of molybdenum precursors was also carried out, in order to assess the impact of the type of molybdenum precursor on the structural, morphological, optical and surface properties of the prepared samples. It was observed that all films showed superhydrophilicity even under visible light, and that the structural, optical and morphological properties were different, depending on the molybdenum precursor used.

The present work outlines a simple and novel approach to obtain nanostructured and heterostructured SnS/Sb2S3 thin films. This material showed enhanced photoelectroactivity in comparison to the individual tin (II) sulphide (SnS) and antimony (III) sulphide (Sb2S3) films. These nanostructured films were grown by electrodeposition of antimony tin (SbSn) compound followed by sulphurisation under a sulphur vapour atmosphere. The optimisation of the growth methodology was systematically performed by evaluating the photoelectroactivity of the films prepared at different deposition potentials as well as by characterisation of the as-deposited binary compound and the films after sulphurisation. In comparison to the individual SnS and Sb2S3 films, the SnS/Sb2S3 one presented a photocurrent response increased 10-fold compared to the former and 48-fold compared to the latter. Further studies carried out by Mott-Schottky analysis and band gap determination confirmed that the band edge positions of the single SnS and Sb2S3 phases are suitably aligned, forming a type II heterostructure which facilitates minority carriers’ separation and transportation and therefore improves the photocurrent density values.

In this study, thin films of Eu3+, Tb3+ and Tm3+ doped CeO2 in the proportions of 2 and 4 mol% were obtained by spin coating and calcined at 700 °C. The films were characterized by XRD, SEM, AFM and UV-vis techniques. The photocatalytic activity of the thin films was measured by the degradation of the methylene blue (MB) dye. The thin films were submitted to 4 photocatalytic cycles to analyze the capacity to be reused. XRD patterns showed no secondary phase formation, where all characteristic peaks were related to CeO2. SEM micrographs indicated that doping at 4 mol% promoted the reduction in the thickness and surface porosity of the thin films. AFM images indicated the increase in surface roughness with rare earths doping. Doping with Eu3+, Tb3+ and Tm3+ increased the degradation of the methylene blue dye by at least 15% for thin films doped at 4 mol%. The reuse tests indicated that the photocatalytic activity remained practically constant even with the application of four consecutive cycles. Resumo Neste estudo, filmes finos de CeO2 dopados com Eu3+, Tb3+ e Tm3+ nas proporções de 2 e 4 %mol foram obtidos por spin coating e calcinados em 700 °C. Os filmes foram caracterizados pelas técnicas de DRX, MEV, MFA e UV-vis. As propriedades fotocatalíticas dos filmes finos foram determinadas pela degradação do corante azul de metileno (AM). Os filmes finos foram submetidos a 4 ciclos fotocatalíticos para analisar a capacidade de serem reusados. Os difratogramas de raios X mostraram que não houve a formação de fases secundárias, onde todos os picos foram referentes ao CeO2. As micrografias de MEV indicaram que a dopagem com 4 %mol promoveu a redução da espessura e porosidade superficial dos filmes finos. As imagens de MFA indicaram o aumento da rugosidade superficial com a dopagem utilizando terras raras. A dopagem com Eu3+, Tb3+ e Tm3+ aumentaram a atividade fotocatalítica em pelo menos 15% para os filmes dopados com 4 %mol. Os testes de reuso indicaram que a atividade fotocatalítica se manteve praticamente constante após a aplicação de quatro ciclos consecutivos.
