Complex analysis is a subfield of mathematical analysis that focuses on the operations of complex numbers. The theory of functions of a complex variable is another name for it. Holomorphic functions, is the key object studied in the filed of complex analysis. These functions can be differentiated, have negative values, and are defined on the complex plane. Some of the ideas, concepts, and techniques frequently utilized in research include the residue theorem, Cauchy integral formula, Laurent series expansion, etc.In particular, algebraic geometry, fluid dynamics, quantum mechanics, and other related sciences have made substantial use of complex analysis in mathematics, physics, and engineering over the years. Girolamo Cardano and Raphael Bombelli, two Italian mathematicians, initially recognized complex numbers while attempting to solve a particular algebra in the 16th century, while Cauchy and Riemann further improved it in the 19th century.This essay explores the arithmetic features of complex numbers firstly. Secondly, a thorough interpretation of the characteristics of holomorphic functions is provided. Finally, using power series methods, the holomorphic function on the disc is characterized.

Spatio-temporal information processing is fundamental in both brain functions and AI applications. Current strategies for spatio-temporal pattern recognition usually involve explicit feature extraction followed by feature aggregation, which requires a large amount of labeled data. In the present study, motivated by the subcortical visual pathway and early stages of the auditory pathway for motion and sound processing, we propose a novel brain-inspired computational model for generic spatio-temporal pattern recognition. The model consists of two modules, a reservoir module and a decision-making module. The former projects complex spatio-temporal patterns into spatially separated neural representations via its recurrent dynamics, the latter reads out neural representations via integrating information over time, and the two modules are linked together using known examples. Using synthetic data, we demonstrate that the model can extract the frequency and order information of temporal inputs. We apply the model to reproduce the looming pattern discrimination behavior as observed in experiments successfully. Furthermore, we apply the model to the gait recognition task, and demonstrate that our model accomplishes the recognition in an event-based manner and outperforms deep learning counterparts when training data is limited.

5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) exists in a wide range of sugar-rich foods and traditional Chinese medicines. The role of 5-HMF in antiviral innate immunity and its mechanism have not been reported previously. In this study, we reveal for the first time that 5-HMF upregulates the production of retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I)-mediated type I interferon (IFN) as a response to viral infection. IFN-β and IFN-stimulated chemokine gene expressions induced by the vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) are upregulated in RAW264.7 cells and primary peritoneal macrophages after treatment with 5-HMF, a natural product that appears to inhibit the efficiency of viral replication. Meanwhile, 5-HMF-pretreated mice show enhanced innate antiviral immunity, increased serum levels of IFN-β, and reduced morbidity and viral loads upon infection with VSV. Thus, 5-HMF can be seen to have a positive effect on enhancing type I IFN production. Mechanistically, 5-HMF upregulates the expression of RIG-I in macrophages, resulting in an acceleration of the RIG-I signaling pathway activation. Additionally, STAT1 and STAT2 phosphorylations, along with the expression of IFN-stimulated chemokine genes induced by IFN-α/β, were also enhanced in macrophages cotreated with 5-HMF. In summary, these findings indicate that 5-HMF not only can induce type I IFN production but also can enhance IFN-JAK/STAT signaling, leading to a novel immunomodulatory mechanism against viral infection. In conclusion, our study reveals a previously unrecognized effect of 5-HMF in the antiviral innate immune response and suggests new potential of utilizing 5-HMF for controlling viral infection.

Background: The objective of this study was to assess the clinical efficacy of radiotherapy combined with surgery for locally advanced gastric signet-ring-cell carcinoma (GSRCC). Methods: Clinical data of patients with locally advanced GSRCC diagnosed by postoperative pathology from 2000-2016 were collected from the US Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database. All the enrolled patients were divided into three groups according to treatment type: surgery alone (S; N=727), surgery with preoperative radiotherapy (RT+S; N=138), surgery with postoperative radiotherapy (S+RT; N=548). Results: The median overall survival (OS) time in S, RT+S and S+RT group was 19, 26 and 33 months, respectively; the overall survival (OS) rate was 19.5%, 26.9% and 34.0%, respectively; the median cancer-specific survival (CSS) time was 29, 31 and 43 months, respectively; and the CSS rate was 32,4%, 35.3% and 43.6%, respectively. After performing propensity score matching (PSM), it was found that the OS rate was significantly lower in S group than in RT+S or S+RT group (all PConclusions: Compared to surgery alone, surgery combined with preoperative or postoperative radiotherapy is beneficial to the long-term survival of patients with locally advanced GSRCC.

In this paper, the fast integral terminal sliding mode control for spacecraft formation flying system is concerned subjected to external disturbances and parametric uncertainties. First, a novel modified fast integral terminal sliding mode control law is designed, which contains the advantages of fast terminal sliding mode. Then, for estimating the external disturbances in the system, the control law based on the reduced-order disturbance observer is proposed which not only reduce the order of the observer but also guarantee the tracking errors converge in finite time. Further, to identify the unknown parameters accurately, by introducing an adaptive parametric updating law, the adaptive fast integral terminal sliding mode control law is proposed, which has better robustness against external disturbances and parameter uncertainties simultaneously. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control laws is demonstrated by the simulation results.

Pure organic room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials have attracted wide attention for their easy preparation, low toxicity and applications in professional fields such as bioimaging and anti-counterfeiting. Developing phosphorescent systems with more universality and less difficulty in synthesis has long been the pursuit of materials scientists. By employing polymeric quaternary ammonium salt with an ionic bonding matrix and heavy atoms, commercial fluorescent dyes are directly endowed with phosphorescence emission. In a single amorphous polymer, the external heavy-atom effect generates excited triplet states, which are further stabilized by the rigid polymer matrix. This study proposed a new general strategy to design and develop pure organic RTP materials starting from the vast library of organic dyes without complicated chemical synthesis.

Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) affects 1% of men. However, the unknowns of NOA pathogenesis and even normal spermatogenic microenvironment establishment severely limit the clinical efficacy of NOA treatment. We profiled > 80,000 human testicular single-cell transcriptomes from 10 healthy donors spanning the range from infant to adult and 7 NOA patients. Sertoli cells, which form the scaffold in the testicular microenvironment, exhibited the most obvious damages in NOA patients. We identified the roadmap of Sertoli cell maturation. Notably, Sertoli cells of patients with congenital causes (Klinefelter syndrome and Y chromosome microdeletions) are mature but with abnormal immune response, while the cells in idiopathic NOA (iNOA) are basically physiologically immature. Furthermore, inhibition of Wnt signaling promotes the maturation of Sertoli cells from iNOA patients, allowing these cells to regain their ability to support germ cell survival. We provide a novel perspective on the development of diagnostic methods and therapeutic targets for NOA.

In this paper, a nonsingular fast terminal adaptive neurosliding mode control for spacecraft formation flying systems is investigated. First, a supertwisting disturbance observer is employed to estimate external disturbances in the system. Second, a fast nonsingular terminal sliding mode control law is proposed to guarantee the tracking errors of the spacecraft formation converge to zero in finite time. Third, for the unknown parts in the spacecraft formation flying dynamics, we proposed an adaptive neurosliding mode control law to compensate them. The proposed sliding mode control laws not only achieve the formation but also alleviate the effect of the chattering. Finally, simulations are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control laws.

This article investigates optimal cooperative control algorithms for spacecraft formation flying system that can guarantee collision avoidance between spacecrafts. By selecting potential functions to avoid collisions and constructing index cost functions to describe optimal control, the optimal control algorithms based on the state-dependent Riccati equations, which only require local information vectors, are presented that can guarantee the formation spacecraft to track the reference trajectory without collisions and achieve optimal performance states. Finally, the corresponding proof analysis by Lyapunov stability theory shows that the closed-loop system for spacecraft formation flying is asymptotically stable. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed optimal cooperative control algorithms with desired control objectives, including trajectory tracking, formation optimality, and collision avoidance.

Neural systems display rich short-term dynamics at various levels, e.g., spike-frequency adaptation (SFA) at the single-neuron level, and short-term facilitation (STF) and depression (STD) at the synapse level. These dynamical features typically cover a broad range of time scales and exhibit large diversity in different brain regions. It remains unclear what is the computational benefit for the brain to have such variability in short-term dynamics. In this study, we propose that the brain can exploit such dynamical features to implement multiple seemingly contradictory computations in a single neural circuit. To demonstrate this idea, we use continuous attractor neural network (CANN) as a working model and include STF, SFA and STD with increasing time constants in its dynamics. Three computational tasks are considered, which are persistent activity, adaptation, and anticipative tracking. These tasks require conflicting neural mechanisms, and hence cannot be implemented by a single dynamical feature or any combination with similar time constants. However, with properly coordinated STF, SFA and STD, we show that the network is able to implement the three computational tasks concurrently. We hope this study will shed light on the understanding of how the brain orchestrates its rich dynamics at various levels to realize diverse cognitive functions.

Background The complete sequences of chloroplast genomes provide wealthy information regarding the evolutionary history of species. With the advance of next-generation sequencing technology, the number of completely sequenced chloroplast genomes is expected to increase exponentially, powerful computational tools annotating the genome sequences are in urgent need. Results We have developed a web server CPGAVAS. The server accepts a complete chloroplast genome sequence as input. First, it predicts protein-coding and rRNA genes based on the identification and mapping of the most similar, full-length protein, cDNA and rRNA sequences by integrating results from Blastx, Blastn, protein2genome and est2genome programs. Second, tRNA genes and inverted repeats (IR) are identified using tRNAscan, ARAGORN and vmatch respectively. Third, it calculates the summary statistics for the annotated genome. Fourth, it generates a circular map ready for publication. Fifth, it can create a Sequin file for GenBank submission. Last, it allows the extractions of protein and mRNA sequences for given list of genes and species. The annotation results in GFF3 format can be edited using any compatible annotation editing tools. The edited annotations can then be uploaded to CPGAVAS for update and re-analyses repeatedly. Using known chloroplast genome sequences as test set, we show that CPGAVAS performs comparably to another application DOGMA, while having several superior functionalities. Conclusions CPGAVAS allows the semi-automatic and complete annotation of a chloroplast genome sequence, and the visualization, editing and analysis of the annotation results. It will become an indispensible tool for researchers studying chloroplast genomes. The software is freely accessible from http://www.herbalgenomics.org/cpgavas.
