Our methodology encompasses a comprehensive evaluation of seven distinct parameter estimation techniques, with a particular focus on the Anderson-Darling and maximum product spacing methods. These were selected based on their performance in minimizing bias and mean square error, assessed through a rigorous Monte-Carlo simulation study. Additionally, the study utilizes rainfall data from various geographical regions to validate the model's efficacy. The major conclusion of our investigation is the demonstrable superiority of NEED over traditional models in fitting rainfall data, as evidenced by its enhanced predictive accuracy. Background: Assisted death, including euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide (PAS), is under debate worldwide, and these practices are adopted in many Western countries. Physicians' attitudes toward assisted death vary across the globe, but little is known about physicians' actual reactions when facing a request for assisted death. There is a clear gap in evidence on how physicians act and respond to patients' requests for assisted death in countries where these actions are not legal. Methods: A survey including statements concerning euthanasia and PAS and an open question about their actions when facing a request for assisted death was sent to all Finnish physicians. Quantitative data are presented as numbers and percentages. Statistical significance was tested by using the Pearson chi-square test, when appropriate. The qualitative analysis was performed by using an inductive content analysis approach, where categories emerge from the data. Results: Altogether, 6889 physicians or medical students answered the survey, yielding a response rate of 26%. One-third of participants agreed or partly agreed that they could assist a patient in a suicide. The majority (69%) of the participants fully or partly agreed that euthanasia should only be accepted due to difficult physical symptoms, while 12% fully or partly agreed that life turning into a burden should be an acceptable reason for euthanasia. Of the participants, 16% had faced a request for euthanasia or PAS, and 3033 answers from 2565 respondents were achieved to the open questions concerning their actions regarding the request and ethical aspects of assisted death. In the qualitative analysis, six main categories, including 22 subcategories, were formed regarding the phenomenon of how physicians act when facing this request. The six main categories were as follows: providing an alternative to the request, enabling care and support, ignoring the request, giving a reasoned refusal, complying with the request, and seeing the request as a possibility. Conclusions: Finnish physicians' actions regarding the requests for assisted death, and attitudes toward euthanasia and PAS vary substantially. Open discussion, education, and recommendations concerning a request for assisted death and ethics around it are also highly needed in countries where euthanasia and PAS are not legal. Introduction: Healthcare workforce diversity is essential for increasing access and reducing racial/ethnic health disparities. We examined the growth and trends in physician assistant/associate (PA) workforce demographic composition by initial year of certification. Methods: Drawing on data from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, we aggregated gender, age (1975-2020), race/ethnicity, and underrepresented in medicine (URiM) (2000-2020). Descriptive statistics of demographics were calculated by the initial certification year and assessed for trends using the Cochran-Armitage test. Results: Analyses revealed an 11.7% annual growth rate in PAs earning initial certification and a change in gender composition (23.9% to 74.2% female) from 1975 to 2020. Between 2000 and 2020, we observed significant increases (all p<0.001) in the proportions of PAs who self-identify as Asian (5.7 percentage points), Hispanic/Latino(a) (3.5 percentage points), and multiracial (2.4 percentage points). However, there was a decline (all p<0.001) in the proportions of PAs who self-identify as Black/African American (1.2 percentage points), American Indian/Alaska Native (0.1 percentage points), Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (0.1 percentage points), and other race (1.1 percentage points). Trend analyses revealed that the proportion of PAs identifying as URiM decreased over the past 21 years. Air pollution is a growing concern in today's urbanized world, necessitating efficient and accurate methods for air quality monitoring. The proliferation of IoT devices has led to a surge in the generation of time-series data. With its high volume and complexity, this surge in time-series data necessitates cloud-based solutions for handling and analyzing this data effectively. However, existing methods for air quality monitoring face challenges in capturing the complex patterns and dynamics of air pollution, which often exhibit both linear and nonlinear characteristics. Air pollution data often exhibit both linear and nonlinear characteristics. Linearity and nonlinearity refer to the nature of the relationships within the data. Some aspects of air quality, such as pollutant concentrations, may follow linear patterns, while other factors, like the interaction of multiple pollutants and environmental conditions, exhibit nonlinear relationships. This complexity arises from the multifaceted nature of air quality dynamics, which various factors and interactions can influence. To address these challenges, this study introduces a novel hybrid time-series approach that combines the proven strengths of two well-established techniques: traditional time-series autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) and soft computing adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The hybrid model is designed to provide a comprehensive solution that accommodates the diverse characteristics of air quality time-series data. To assess the efficacy of our proposed model, we conducted extensive experiments using real-world air pollution datasets obtained from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India, covering the period from January 2015 to July 2020. Our evaluation includes a range of performance metrics such as root-mean-square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and mean squared logarithmic error (MSLE). Specifically, our model demonstrates exceptional accuracy, with notably low error values for key metrics such as air quality index (AQI) and PM2.5. Furthermore, we subjected our innovative hybrid model to rigorous statistical testing using the Diebold-Mariano test, establishing the significance and superiority of our approach. This research advances our understanding of air quality prediction and offers a valuable solution for mitigating the detrimental effects of air pollution on public health and the environment. Ecologists and evolutionary biologists are regularly tasked with the comparison of binary data across groups. There is, however, some discussion in the biostatistics literature about the best methodology for the analysis of data comprising binary explanatory and response variables forming a 2 × 2 contingency table.We assess several methodologies for the analysis of 2 × 2 contingency tables using a simulation scheme of different sample sizes with outcomes evenly or unevenly distributed between groups. Specifically, we assess the commonly recommended logistic (generalised linear model [GLM]) regression analysis, the classical Pearson chi‐squared test and four conventional alternatives (Yates' correction, Fisher's exact, exact unconditional and mid‐p), as well as the widely discouraged linear model (LM) regression.We found that both LM and GLM analyses provided unbiased estimates of the difference in proportions between groups. LM and GLM analyses also provided accurate standard errors and confidence intervals when the experimental design was balanced. When the experimental design was unbalanced, sample size was small, and one of the two groups had a probability close to 1 or 0, LM analysis could substantially over‐ or under‐represent statistical uncertainty. For null hypothesis significance testing, the performance of the chi‐squared test and LM analysis were almost identical. Across all scenarios, both had high power to detect non‐null effects and reject false positives. By contrast, the GLM analysis was underpowered when using z‐based p‐values, in particular when one of the two groups had a probability near 1 or 0. The GLM using the LRT had better power to detect non‐null results.Our simulation results suggest that, wherever a chi‐squared test would be recommended, a linear regression is a suitable alternative for the analysis of 2 × 2 contingency table data. When researchers opt for more sophisticated procedures, we provide R functions to calculate the standard error of a difference between two probabilities from a Bernoulli GLM output using the delta method. We also explore approaches to compliment GLM analysis of 2 × 2 contingency tables with credible intervals on the probability scale. Objective: The objective of this pilot study was to explore the impact of interpreter format (virtual vs in person) on clinical outcomes in patients with non-English language preference (NELP) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in a primary care setting. We hypothesized that NELP patients utilizing in person interpreters would have improved HbA1c values, better follow-up rate, and more complex care plans compared to patients utilizing virtual interpreters. Methods: We completed a retrospective chart review of 137 NELP patients with T2DM who required a medical interpreter (February to June 2021). We calculated univariate and bivariate statistics to characterize the sample and assess the extent to which measures of continuity (follow-up visit rate and time to follow-up visit), quality (change in HbA1c), and complexity (medication intervention complexity) were associated with interpreter type. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in follow-up rate or average days to follow-up visit for NELP patients with in person as opposed to virtual interpreters. Patients with virtual interpreters demonstrated a non-statistically significant decrease in HbA1c compared to those with in person interpreters. Finally, there was no statistically significant association between interpreter format and intervention complexity. Conclusions: Quality medical interpretation contributes to optimal health outcomes in NELP patients with diabetes. Our study suggests that both in person and virtual interpreters can be effective in providing care for NELP patients, especially for chronic disease management in the context of a primary care relationship. It also highlights the importance of pursuing additional qualitative and mixed method studies to better understand the benefits of various interpreter formats across different visit types. The escalating process of urbanization has raised concerns about incidents arising from overcrowding, necessitating a deep understanding of large human crowd behavior and the development of effective crowd management strategies. This study employs computational methods to analyze real-world crowd behaviors, emphasizing self-organizing patterns. Notably, the intersection of two streams of individuals triggers the spontaneous emergence of striped patterns, validated through both simulations and live human experiments. Addressing a gap in computational methods for studying these patterns, previous research utilized the pattern-matching technique, employing the Nelder-Mead Simplex algorithm for fitting a two-dimensional sinusoidal function to pedestrian coordinates. This paper advances the pattern-matching procedure by introducing Simulated Annealing as the optimization algorithm and employing a two-dimensional square wave for data fitting. The amalgamation of Simulated Annealing and the square wave significantly enhances pattern fitting quality, validated through statistical hypothesis tests. Background: Misconceptions about male nurses not only exacerbate the gender imbalance in the nursing profession but also negatively impact male nurses embarking on their careers. Currently, no tool exists to measure the gender biases toward males in nursing among nursing students in China. Consequently, the primary objective of this study is to assess the validity and reliability of the Chinese translation of the Gender Misconceptions of Men in Nursing (GEMINI) scale among nursing students. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 1,102 nursing students from China who participated online. We utilized the Brislin translation technique with a forward-backward approach. To determine the factor structure within the Men in Nursing Gender Misconceptions Scale's Chinese version, both exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were applied. The scale's internal consistency was measured through the Cronbach's alpha coefficient, corrected item-total correlation, and a retest reliability assessment. Results: The scale showed a content validity index of 0.938 and a retest reliability of 0.844. EFA indicated a two-factor structure for the translated instrument. CFA revealed a chi-square/degree of freedom of 3.837, an incremental fit index (IFI) of 0.952, a goodness-of-fit index (GFI) of 0.910, a comparative fit index (CFI) of 0.952, and an RMSEA of 0.073, all of which were within acceptable limits. The scale's Cronbach's α was 0.953, and the corrected item-total correlations ranged between 0.539 and 0.838. Gender-based misconceptions about men in nursing among students appeared to be influenced by their gender and whether they considered a nursing program as their first choice when applying for a major. Misconceptions about male nurses are greater among men and those who do not consider nursing programs as their first choice when applying for a major. Conclusions: The Chinese adaptation of the GEMINI scale showcased high reliability and validity. Introduction: Tai Chi has proved to be an effective therapy for balance performance and cognition. However, non-consistency exists in the results of the effect of Tai Chi training on standing balance control in older adults. This study aimed to use traditional and non-traditional methods to investigate the effect of Tai Chi on standing balance in older adults. Methods: Thirty-six Tai Chi practitioners (TC group) and thirty-six older adults with no Tai Chi practice (control group) were recruited in this study. A Nintendo Wii Balance Board was used to record the center of pressure (COP) during standing balance over 20 s in the condition of eyes closed with three repetitions. The wavelet analysis, multiscale entropy, recurrence quantification analysis, and traditional methods were used to evaluate the standing balance control in the anterior-posterior (AP) and mediolateral (ML) directions. Results: (1) Greater sway mean velocity in the AP direction and sway Path length were found in the TC group compared with the control group; (2) lower Very-low frequency band (0.10-0.39Hz) and higher Moderate frequency band (1.56-6.25Hz) in the AP andML directions were found in the TC group compared with the control group; (3) greater complexity index (CI) and lower determinism (DET) in the AP and ML directions were observed in the TC group compared with control group; (4) greater path length linked with smaller Very-low frequency band in the AP and ML directions and higher Moderate frequency band in the AP direction in both groups; (5) greater path length linked with lower DET and higher CI in the AP direction only in the TC group. Conclusion: Long-term Tai Chi practice improved sensory reweighting (more reliance on the proprioception systemand less reliance on the vestibular system) and complexity of standing balance control in older adults. In addition, greater sway velocity may be as an exploratory role in standing balance control of TC older adults, which correlated with greater complexity, but no such significant relationship in the control group. Therefore, the effects of Tai Chi practice on standing balance control in older adults may be attributed to the improvement of sensory reweighting and complexity rather than reduced sway velocity or amplitude. Detecting epistatic drivers of human phenotypes is a considerable challenge. Traditional approaches use regression to sequentially test multiplicative interaction terms involving pairs of genetic variants. For higher-order interactions and genome-wide large-scale data, this strategy is computationally intractable. Moreover, multiplicative terms used in regression modeling may not capture the form of biological interactions. Building on the Predictability, Computability, Stability (PCS) framework, we introduce the epiTree pipeline to extract higher-order interactions from genomic data using tree-based models. The epiTree pipeline first selects a set of variants derived from tissue-specific estimates of gene expression. Next, it uses iterative random forests (iRF) to search training data for candidate Boolean interactions (pairwise and higher-order). We derive significance tests for interactions, based on a stabilized likelihood ratio test, by simulating Boolean tree-structured null (no epistasis) and alternative (epistasis) distributions on hold-out test data. Finally, our pipeline computes PCS epistasis p-values that probabilisticly quantify improvement in prediction accuracy via bootstrap sampling on the test set. We validate the epiTree pipeline in two case studies using data from the UK Biobank: predicting red hair and multiple sclerosis (MS). In the case of predicting red hair, epiTree recovers known epistatic interactions surrounding MC1R and novel interactions, representing non-linearities not captured by logistic regression models. In the case of predicting MS, a more complex phenotype than red hair, epiTree rankings prioritize novel interactions surrounding HLA-DRB1, a variant previously associated with MS in several populations. Memory-related impairments in type 2 diabetes may be mediated by insulin resistance and hyperglycemia. Previous cross-sectional studies have controversially suggested a relationship between metabolic control and a decrease in hippocampal volumes, but only longitudinal studies can test this hypothesis directly. We performed a longitudinal morphometric study to provide a direct test of a possible role of higher levels of glycated hemoglobin with long term brain structural integrity in key regions of the memory system – hippocampus, parahippocampal gyrus and fusiform gyrus. Grey matter volume was measured at two different times – baseline and after ~7  years. We found an association between higher initial levels of HbA1C and grey matter volume loss in all three core memory regions, even in the absence of mild cognitive impairment. Importantly, these neural effects persisted in spite of the fact that patients had significantly improved their glycemic control. This suggests that early high levels of HbA1c might be irreversibly associated with subsequent long-term atrophy in the medial temporal cortex and that early intensive management is critical. Objective The objective of this study was to describe the utilization of physical therapist and occupational therapist services after rotator cuff repair (RCR) and examine variation in rehabilitation characteristics by profession. Methods This retrospective cohort study used the IBM MarketScan Commercial Claims and Encounters database. Eligible patients were 18 to 64 years old and had undergone outpatient RCR between 2017 and 2020. Physical therapist and occupational therapist services were identified using evaluation and treatment codes with profession-specific modifiers ("GP" or "GO"). Factors predicting utilization of formal rehabilitation and physical therapist versus occupational therapist services were examined; and univariable and multivariable analyses of days to initiate therapy, number of visits, and episode length by profession were completed. Results Among 53,497 patients with an RCR, 81.2% initiated formal rehabilitation (93.8% physical therapist, 5.2% occupational therapist, 1.0% both services). Patients in the Northeast and West (vs the South) were less likely to receive rehabilitation (odds ratio [OR] = 0.67 to 0.70) and less likely to receive occupational therapist services (OR = 0.39). Patients living in the Midwest (versus the South) were less likely to receive rehabilitation (OR = 0.79) but more likely to receive occupational therapist services (OR = 1.51). Similarly, those living in a rural (versus urban) area were less likely to utilize rehabilitation (OR = 0.89) but more likely to receive occupational therapist services (OR = 2.21). Additionally, receiving occupational therapist instead of physical therapist services was associated with decreased therapist visits (−16.89%), days to initiate therapy (−13.43%), and episode length (−13.78%). Conclusion Most patients in our commercially insured cohort utilized rehabilitation services, with a small percentage receiving occupational therapist services. We identified profession-specific variation in utilization characteristics that warrants further examination to understand predictors and associated outcomes. Impact Variation in rehabilitation utilization after RCR, including profession-specific and regional differences, may indicate opportunities to improve standardization and quality of care. Introduction: Urolithiasis is one of the most common urological problems worldwide. The fastest treatment modality to achieve stone clearance of ureteral stones is Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy (URSL). However, it is negated by both the cost burden and potential risk to the patient. Medical Expulsive Therapy (MET) is a treatment option for upto 10 mm stones but has failure rates of 40-60% in the literature. Aim: To analyse the various indications for surgery, whether MET was used or not, if used-its details, operative findings at ureteroscopy including the reason for the failure of MET. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study consisting of 72 patients with ureteric calculi undergoing URSL was analysed from June 2017 to December 2018 at Mazumdar Shaw Medical Centre, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Indications were assessed at the time of admission. During ureteroscopy, factors like impaction, distal obstruction, and unusual findings were studied, which could have contributed to the failure of MET. The Chi-square test was used as a test of significance for categorical data. The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test was used as a test of significance to identify the mean difference between continuous variables. The p-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean age in the study was 41.65±13.4 years (range 20-69 years), and the mean stone size was 10.03±3.34 mm. Large stone was the most common indication (41, 56.9%, p=0.004), followed by failed MET (35, 48.6%). Even though MET could have been continued for four weeks in 17 patients (23.6%), they were taken up for surgery. The impaction rate was 70.8% (51), with 48.6% (35) being large impacted stones and 22.2% (16) being small impacted stones. The overall stone clearance rate was 68 out of 72 (94.4%). Conclusion: Large stone size (=10 mm) and failed MET were the main indications for surgery. One reason for the failure of MET was not waiting for a duration of four weeks. During ureteroscopy, impaction of the stone, irrespective of size, was the most common finding and was the reason for the failure of MET. Ureteric stones on MET should not be neglected as there are reasons for the failure of MET, and they will require URSL after four weeks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Parkinsonism‐dystonia‐2 PKDYS2 is an autosomal‐recessive disorder, caused by pathogenic biallelic variants in SLC18A2 which encodes the vesicular monoamine transporter (VMAT2) protein. PKDYS2 is a treatable neurotransmitter disease, and the rate of diagnosis of this disorder has increased significantly with the advance of genomic technologies. Our report highlights a novel pathologic variant in one case and a novel finding on MRI Brain, consisting of a normal symmetrical signal intensity in the dorsal brainstem and pons, and it substantiates the significance of genetic testing in the evaluation of children with developmental delays, which influences clinical decisions to enhance patient outcomes. This research discusses the correlation between the results of socialization of child-friendly pesantren program by the ministry of religion and the ministry of women's empowerment and protection on the program implementation in pesantrens in Padangpanjg City, West Sumatra. The purpose of the research was to obtain information about the correlation between the results of socialization on the implementation of the childfriendly pesantren program. The hypothesis in this study is that there is a correlation between the results of socialization and the on the implementation of child-friendly pesantren programs in Pesantrens in Padangpanjang City. The research method is descriptive method. The technique used in this research is proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The results showed that the proposed hypothesis was accepted that there was a significant correlation between the results of socialization on the implementation of the child-friendly pesantren program with he correlation coefficient calculation known that r hitung is 0,660 wheres r table with significant degree 5% for N = 62 and df = N-2 = 62 - 2 = 60 is 0,254. Leishmania infantum, a zoonotic vector-born parasite, is endemic in the Mediterranean region, presenting mostly as visceral (VL), but also as cutaneous (CL) and mucosal leishmaniasis (ML). This study aimed to describe the epidemiological and clinical aspects of the CL and ML cases diagnosed in mainland Portugal between 2010 and 2020. Collaboration was requested from every hospital of the Portuguese National Health System. Cases were screened through a search of diagnostic discharge codes or positive laboratory results for Leishmania infection. Simultaneously, a comprehensive literature search was performed. Descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing were performed using IBM® SPSS® Statistics. A total of 43 CL and 7 ML cases were identified, with a predominance of autochthonous cases (86%). In CL, immunosuppressed individuals constituted a significant proportion of patients (48%), and in this group, disseminated CL (22%) and simultaneous VL (54%) were common. In autochthonous cases, lesions, mostly papules/nodules (62%), were frequently observed on the head (48%). The approach to treatment was very heterogeneous. ML cases were all autochthonous, were diagnosed primarily in older immunosuppressed individuals, and were generally treated with liposomal amphotericin B. The findings suggest a need for enhanced surveillance and reporting, clinical awareness, and diagnostic capacity of these forms of leishmaniasis to mitigate underdiagnosis and improve patient outcomes. Background: With CAD-CAM, dental models are often fabricated by additive manufacturing (AM) methods. Dental models for implant prostheses involve the manual placement of analogs, which could affect their final fit. Therefore, in this experimental in vitro study, the accuracy of the analogs' position in models printed using AM methods was examined by comparing three different printing orientations. Methods: An STL file was obtained by scanning a master model with an implant placed in the maxillary left central incisor position. Three study groups (n = 10) with varying printing orientation parameters were obtained (0, 45, and 90 degrees). They were digitalized with a laboratory scanner and evaluated with an analysis metrology program. Differences between 3D datasets were measured using the RMS for trueness and SD RMS for precision. The data were statistically analyzed using the ANOVA test at a significance level of p < 0.05, followed by the Bonferroni post hoc test. Results: The 45-degrees group showed the best results. Regarding trueness, statistically significant differences were found between the 45- and 90-degrees groups (p < 0.005). In terms of precision, statistically significant differences appeared between the 45- and 0-degrees groups (p < 0.011) and between the 45- and 90-degrees groups (0.003). Conclusions: The printing angulation parameter affects the accuracy of 3D-printed models. Implant models manufactured at 45 degrees of printing angulation are more accurate than those printed at 0 or 90 degrees. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The existence of an asymmetric empirical Lorenz curve requires a measure of asymmetry that directly involves the geometry of the Lorenz curve as a component of its formulation. Therefore, establishing hypothesis testing for Lorenz curve asymmetry is necessary to conclude whether the Lorenz curve exhibits symmetry in actual data. Consequently, this study aims to construct a measure of Lorenz curve asymmetry that utilizes the area and perimeter elements of the inequality subzones as its components and establish a procedure for hypothesis testing the symmetry of the Lorenz curve. This study proposes two types of asymmetry measures, RA and RP, constructed based on the ratio of area and perimeter obtained from the inequality subzone. These measures effectively capture the asymmetric phenomenon of the Lorenz curve and provide an economic interpretation of the values of RA and RP. Background: In Iran, there is a lack of information and studies on acute rheumatic fever (ARF), a global health issue. The limited understanding of ARF's prevalence and primary clinical symptoms has led to confusion. This research investigates the characteristics of children aged 3-17 years who experience ARF with monoarthritis as their initial symptom. Methods: A retrospective evaluation of medical records of children diagnosed with ARF was conducted. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of monoarthritis as the first manifestation of ARF and its association with age, gender, family history, and cardiac involvement. Categorical variables were analyzed using the chi-square test with a significance level of < 0.05 and a confidence interval of 95%, using SPSS software (Version 23). Results: The study included 62 patients with ARF, comprising 41 (66.1%) boys with an average age of 8.48±3.27 years. Among these patients, 12 exhibited cardiac involvement according to the revised Jones criteria, with 5 clinical carditis and 7 cases of subclinical carditis. Monoarthritis was the initial symptom in seven patients (11.29%); five (71.4%) also had carditis. There was a significant association (p<0.001) between monoarthritis and carditis. Conclusion: The study concludes that monoarthritis may be an early sign of ARF in children and correlates significantly with cardiac involvement. However, more extensive research with more significant participant numbers is necessary to understand ARF in Iran comprehensively. Background: Doppler ultrasonography is essential to provide insights into hemodynamic alterations and liver function changes in pre-cirrhotic and cirrhotic patients. Utilizing Doppler examinations, this study aims to explore the correlation between hepatic arterial hemodynamics and Model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) scores in chronic liver disease patients. Methods: A study of 50 chronic liver disease patients included sonographic assessments, measuring liver, portal vein size, and flow. Hepatic artery velocity, resistive index (RI), pulsatility index (PI), and acceleration time (AT) were evaluated. Biochemical parameters (serum bilirubin, creatinine, INR) were used to calculate MELD scores, compared with different Doppler sonographic parameters. Results: The study found a mean peak systolic velocity (PSV) of 107.42 ± 48.10, with end-diastolic velocity (EDV) of 26.40 ± 14.68, RI of 0.74 ± 0.06, and PI of 1.47 ± 0.24. The mean MELD score was 19.28 ± 6.09. Correlations between MELD scores and PSV, EDV, RI, PI, and AT did not yield statistically significant correlations. 80% of subjects displayed high RI (> 0.7) values in the hepatic artery, and a significant correlation was found between portal vein thrombosis and hepatic artery PSV and RI (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Hepatic artery RI and PSV show a significant correlation with portal vein thrombosis. Doppler ultrasonography, while not directly tied to MELD scores, is valuable for non-invasive liver disease monitoring when invasive methods are impractical. Background: The rapidly rising average age of the older adults has brought various global healthcare challenges. A core challenge is how to enhance their quality of life (QoL). Objective: The objective of the current study was to test the significance of biopsychosocial determinants of quality of life of older adults in Pakistan and Canada. Methodology: A cross-sectional survey was carried out on a conveniently approached purposive sample of 1,005 older adults (Pakistani = 557 and Canadian = 448) of age range between 60 years and 80 years. The data were collected via demographic datasheet, World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Scale, Health and Lifestyle Questionnaire, General Self-Efficacy Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and Berlin Social Support Scale. Results: The results of hierarchical regression analysis showed that biopsychosocial factors (viz., health and lifestyle, chronic illness, self-efficacy, self-esteem, and social support) significantly predicted (R² = .27, and.68) quality of life of older adults in Pakistan and Canada, respectively, after controlling the demographic variables. Significant differences were found between Pakistani and Canadian older adults on biopsychosocial factors: Canadian older adults scored significantly higher on health and lifestyle, self-efficacy, and quality of life, and older adults in Pakistan scored significantly higher on self-esteem and social support. Introduction: Aging studies in humans and mice have played a key role in understanding the intestinal microbiome and an increased abundance of “inflammaging” Gram-negative (Gn) bacteria. The mechanisms underlying this inflammatory profile in the aging microbiome are unknown. We tested the hypothesis that an aging-related decrease in colonic crypt epithelial cell anti)microbial peptide (AMP) gene expression could promote colonic microbiome inflammatory Gn dysbiosis and inflammaging. Methods: As a model of aging, C57BL/6J mice fecal (colonic) microbiota (16S) and isolated colonic crypt epithelial cell gene expression (RNA-seq) were assessed at 2 months (mth) (human: 18 years old; yo), 15 mth (human: 50 yo), and 25 mth (human: 84 yo). Informatics examined aging-related microbial compositions, differential colonic crypt epithelial cell gene expressions, and correlations between colonic bacteria and colonic crypt epithelial cell gene expressions. Results: Fecal microbiota exhibited significantly increased relative abundances of pro-inflammatory Gn bacteria with aging. Colonic crypt epithelial cell gene expression analysis showed significant age-related downregulation of key AMP genes that repress the growth of Gn bacteria. The aging-related decrease in AMP gene expressions is significantly correlated with an increased abundance in Gn bacteria (dysbiosis), loss of colonic barrier gene expression, and senescence- and inflammation-related gene expression. Conclusion: This study supports the proposed model that aging-related loss of colonic crypt epithelial cell AMP gene expression promotes increased relative abundances of Gn inflammaging-associated bacteria and gene expression markers of colonic inflammaging. Background: Cancer, a disease with high morbidity and mortality rates, poses a significant threat to human health. Driver genes, which harbor mutations accountable for the initiation and progression of tumors, play a crucial role in cancer development. Identifying driver genes stands as a paramount objective in cancer research and precision medicine. Results: In the present work, we propose a method for identifying driver genes using a Generalized Linear Regression Model (GLM) with Shrinkage and double-Weighted strategies based on Functional Impact, which is named GSW-FI. Firstly, an estimating model is proposed for assessing the background functional impacts of genes based on GLM, utilizing gene features as predictors. Secondly, the shrinkage and double-weighted strategies as two revising approaches are integrated to ensure the rationality of the identified driver genes. Lastly, a statistical method of hypothesis testing is designed to identify driver genes by leveraging the estimated background function impacts. Experimental results conducted on 31 The Cancer Genome Altas datasets demonstrate that GSW-FI outperforms ten other prediction methods in terms of the overlap fraction with well-known databases and consensus predictions among different methods. Cronbach's alpha, widely used for measuring reliability, often operates within studies with sample information, suffering insufficient sample sizes to have sufficient statistical power or precise estimation. To address this challenge and incorporate considerations of both confidence intervals and cost-effectiveness into statistical inferences, our study introduces a novel framework. This framework aims to determine the optimal configuration of measurements and subjects for Cronbach's alpha by integrating hypothesis testing and confidence intervals. We have developed two R Shiny apps capable of considering up to nine probabilities, which encompass width, validity, and/or rejection events. These apps facilitate obtaining the required number of measurements/subjects, either by minimizing overall cost for a desired probability or by maximizing probability for a predefined cost. This study examines the relationships between state-provided paid-leave availability and enrollment in public health and nutrition programs (SNAP, Medicaid, WIC) among single low-income women following a birth in the U.S. We hypothesize that women in paid leave states will be less likely to participate in publicly available health and nutrition programs. Data are from the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), a nationally representative panel survey data set (N = 1168). Descriptive tests of significance and probit regression models are used to examine the relationship between paid-leave availability and participation in SNAP, Medicaid, and WIC following a birth. A descriptive analysis suggests significantly lower enrollment in SNAP but not Medicaid or WIC for single low-income women in paid-leave states compared to those in non-paid-leave states. The finding of significantly lower post-birth SNAP participation in paid-leave states holds in probit models that include potentially relevant mother, household, and state controls. The Omicron variants BA.1, BA.2, and BA.5 caused several waves of SARS-CoV-2 in Germany in 2022. In this comparative study, public health data on SARS-CoV-2 infections from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany, between January and October 2022 were examined retrospectively using Pearson's chi-squared tests and Fisher's exact tests for testing for statistical significance. Compared to BA.5 infections, BA.1 and BA.2 infections affected younger individuals aged up to 19 years significantly more often, whereas BA.5 infections occurred significantly more frequently in patients between 40 and 59 years of age when compared to BA.1 and BA.2. Infections with all three variants predominantly caused flu-like symptoms; nevertheless, there were significant differences between the reported symptoms of BA.1, BA.2, and BA.5 infections. Especially, the symptoms of 'fever', 'severe feeling of sickness', 'loss of taste', and 'loss of smell' were significantly more often present in patients with BA.5 infections compared to BA.1 and BA.2 cases. Additionally, BA.2 and BA.5 cases reported significantly more often the symptoms of 'runny nose' and 'cough' than BA.1-infected cases. Our findings indicate remarkable differences in the clinical presentations among the sub-lineages, especially in BA.5 infections. Payment cards offer a simple and convenient method for making purchases. Owing to the increase in the usage of payment cards, especially in online purchases, fraud cases are on the rise. The rise creates financial risk and uncertainty, as in the commercial sector, it incurs billions of losses each year. However, real transaction records that can facilitate the development of effective predictive models for fraud detection are difficult to obtain, mainly because of issues related to confidentially of customer information. In this paper, we apply a total of 13 statistical and machine learning models for payment card fraud detection using both publicly available and real transaction records. The results from both original features and aggregated features are analyzed and compared. A statistical hypothesis test is conducted to evaluate whether the aggregated features identified by a genetic algorithm can offer a better discriminative power, as compared with the original features, in fraud detection. Concerns with educational quality have led to the implementation of external school evaluation (ESE), based on the premise that these processes can provide valuable information about schools and, consequently, create conditions for improvement. Improvement is based on the feedback, commonly in the form of an evaluation report, resulting from evaluations, describing the reality of each school, and providing clues and guidance for action and progress. Nonetheless, ESE still has a relatively weak impact on overall school improvement. With this in mind, this paper focuses on the potential of evaluation reports to promote improvement, aiming to answer the question: What kind of feedback on school self-evaluation (SSE) does ESE provide to schools? Focusing on the Portuguese case, the paper analyses the feedback regarding school self-evaluation provided in evaluation reports from the northern region of Portugal. The study concludes that the feedback provided in the reports is mainly descriptive and generic, referencing issues that apply to all schools rather than targeting issues specific to each school. This leads to the hypothesis that the vagueness of ESE feedback can explain the limited contribution external evaluations make towards SSE improvement in particular, and school improvement overall. We survey 20,439 estimates from 64 distinct research areas to assess power, bias and statistical significance in industrial relations research. The average estimate published in industrial relations research lacks adequate power; average power is 33 per cent, and median power is only 14 per cent, much lower than the conventional 80 per cent standard. Low power means that industrial relations researchers will find it more difficult to detect important associations pertaining to workplace relations. Low power also leads to exaggerated research findings. We find substantial publication bias in industrial relations research, though nearly half of the research areas have little or no bias. BACKGROUND: Poor sleep quality and sleep disorders are more prevalent in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) than in the general population. Poor sleep has been correlated with worse MS outcomes. Sleep efficiency (SE) is one of the most sensitive markers of sleep quality. There is very little written about SE and other polysomnography (PSG) parameters and MS measures. METHODS: This is a retrospective review of 280 consecutive individuals with MS evaluated by PSGs and other standardized MS measures over 13 years at a comprehensive MS center. In addition, the cohort was assessed with 2 fatigue scales, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and the Expanded Disability Status Scale. A comparison of means test (independent t test) and a correlation coefficient (r) were used. RESULTS: The PSG measures of SE and Total Sleep Time were significantly different between a group of individuals with MS with a disease duration of more than 5 years vs a group of individuals with MS with a disease duration less than or equal to 5 years. Prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea was 63%, higher than reported in the literature while the prevalence of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea was 33.4%, which was lower than reported. Women are at increased risk of trauma exposure and of experiencing prolonged posttraumatic stress. Maternal trauma exposure and associated impairment may adversely impact mother–infant interaction quality, which may in turn be associated with infant temperament difficulties. More research is needed to identify which maternal trauma predictors are most robustly related to infant temperament outcomes. The present study aimed to address this gap by examining maternal sensitivity as a mediator of relations between maternal trauma and infant temperament in a longitudinal study of a rural cohort of mother–infant dyads. Mediation via maternal sensitivity was not supported in any of the primary analyses. Greater maternal trauma exposure was found to predict greater infant regulation behavior, a finding that was in opposition to expected results and which may be explained by protective factors found within the sample. The present sample was skewed toward married, educated women who reported high social support satisfaction and low trauma-associated impairment. The findings elucidate protective factors that may mitigate adverse outcomes for both mothers and infants. Future research models should include additional maternal trauma variables (e.g., recency, type, revictimization/polyvictimization), in utero maternal cortisol exposure, maternal insensitivity/ambiguous response patterns during caregiver tasks, and analysis of the IBQ-R subscales. Background: Palliative care (PC) focuses on relieving pain and difficult symptoms rather than treating disease or delaying its progress. Palliative care views death as a natural process and allows patients to live the last phase of their existence in the best possible way, encouraging them to express their opinions and wishes for a good death. Interventions are advocated to control symptoms and distress and promote wellbeing and social functioning. A multidisciplinary approach to support patients receiving palliative care is encouraged. Objective: The aims of this study were to investigate the facilitators and barriers to PC in people with kidney disease from a nursing perspective and to explore predictive factors associated with nurse-perceived facilitators and barriers to PC in people with kidney disease. Design: This study is a survey that adopted a questionnaire created in 2021 with Delphi methology, which included 73 statements divided into 37 facilitators and 36 barriers to PC in patients with kidney disease, to be scored using a Likert scale. Participants and Measurements: Participants were obtained through the membership database of the European Dialysis and Transplant Nurses Association/European Renal Care Association (EDTNA/ERCA) of 2020. Inclusion criteria included being registered as a nurse, an EDTNA/ERCA member and understanding of the English language. The questionnaire was sent via email. Results: Three profiles of respondents were found: the first group was characterized by the highest agreement percentages of facilitators and with an average value of 53.7% in barriers; the second was characterized by a lower endorsement of facilitators and similar agreement to the first group for barriers; the third group had a high probability (>80%) of items endorsing both barriers and facilitators. Predictive variables were significantly associated with "Years in nephrology" and "macro geographic area". Conclusions: This study demonstrates variation in PC practice across Europe. Some professionals identified fewer barriers to PC and appeared more confident when dealing with difficult situations in a patient's care pathway, while others identified more barriers as obstacles to the implementation of adequate treatment. Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) is a technique used to optimize energy consumption in ultra-low-power embedded systems. To ensure sufficient computational capacity, the system must scale up its performance settings. The objective is to conserve energy in times of reduced computational demand and/or when battery power is used. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), Cyclic Redundancy Check 32 (CRC32), Secure Hash Algorithm 256 (SHA256), and Message-Digest Algorithm 5 (MD5) are focused functions that demand computational power to achieve energy-efficient performance. Selected operations are analyzed from the energy consumption perspective. In this manner, the energy required to perform a specific function is observed, thereby mitigating the influence of the instruction set or system architecture. For stable operating voltage scaling, an exponential model for voltage calculation is presented. Statistical significance tests are conducted to validate and support the findings. A grid-based approach to exploratory data analysis is described wherein the size of a grid's cells may be altered. The primary tool of exploratory data analysis described here is cluster analysis. Background information is provided regarding the different types of clustering algorithms and their effectiveness. A grid-based approach for exploratory and cluster analysis is then described. Both exploratory and cluster analyses are performed for a series of different sizes of grid cells. Two marketing data sets are utilized to illustrate research questions often faced by market researchers. The first is a cluster analysis of cities used to create strata for selecting a representative probability sample. The second example is a segmentation of customers into groups for the purpose of targeting advertising and product insight. These examples illustrate related issues such as the elimination of "background noise" observations, significance tests for departures from uniform density, and metrics for the shape of a cluster. Background: Cortico-Steroid Injections (CSI) are commonly used to treat patients with Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS) but it is unclear which patients will experience improvements in pain. Objectives: To identify factors that influence improvements in pain for patients with GTPS treated with CSI. Design: Systematic review. Methods: A search was undertaken of AMED, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Medline and PEDro databases. Studies were eligible for inclusion if they investigated factors that influenced changes in pain experienced by patients with GTPS who received a CSI. Studies needed to include relevant summary statistics and tests of clinical significance. Risk Of Bias in Non-randomised Trials Of Interventions (ROBINS-I) and Risk Of Bias 2 (ROB2) tools were used to assess bias. Results: The search identified 466 studies, 8 were included in the final review with a total of 643 participants. There was no association between demographic variables such as age, sex, symptom duration or obesity and pain outcomes post-CSI. Having a co-existing musculoskeletal (MSK) condition such as knee osteoarthritis or sacroiliac/lumbar spine pain was associated with less pain reduction post-CSI. Injections into the Trochanteric Bursa were associated with longer lasting pain reduction than Gluteus Medius Bursa or extra-bursal injections. Image guidance of CSI maintained lower pain scores at six months but did not increase the duration of the therapeutic effect past six months. The presence of specific ultrasound scan features was not associated with differences in pain scores. Conclusions: Patients with co-existing MSK conditions may not respond to CSI as well as those without. Injections into the Greater Trochanteric Bursa may have longer lasting benefit. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder with a prolonged prodromal phase. Higher urinary bis(monoacylglycerol)phosphate (BMP) levels associate with LRRK2 (leucine-rich repeat kinase 2) and GBA1 (glucocerebrosidase) mutations, and are considered as potential noninvasive biomarkers for predicting those mutations and PD progression. However, their reliability has been questioned, with inadequately investigated genetics, cohorts, and population. In this study, multiple statistical hypothesis tests were employed on urinary BMP levels and sequences of 90 PD-risk single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from Parkinson's Progression Markers Institution (PPMI) participants. Those SNPs were categorized into four groups based on their impact on BMP levels in various cohorts. Variants rs34637584 G/A and rs34637584 A/A (LRRK2 G2019S) were identified as the most relevant on increasing urinary BMP levels in the PD cohort. Meanwhile, rs76763715 T/T (GBA1) was the primary factor elevating BMP levels in the prodromal cohort compared to its T/C and C/C variants (N370S) and the PD cohort. Proteomics analysis indicated the changed transport pathways may be the reasons for elevated BMP levels in prodromal patients. Our findings demonstrated that higher urinary BMP levels alone were not reliable biomarkers for PD progression or gene mutations but might serve as supplementary indicators for early diagnosis and treatment. Adverse weather conditions at night are very fatal to drivers, causing serious traffic accidents. Road lighting is a facility that can alleviate these dangerous situations. Nevertheless, road lighting has only rarely been studied during adverse weather. The reason is that the current road lighting performance evaluation method is presented based on normal weather. The current road lighting performance evaluation method uses a luminance meter to measure the road surface, which is not suitable due to scattering during adverse weather such as rain and fog. Therefore, this study proposes obstacle recognition distance as a measure of effectiveness to evaluate the performance of road lighting during adverse weather. There is a lack of actual research on whether obstacle recognition distance can be used as a measure of effectiveness for road lighting during adverse weather. Therefore, in this study, 30 subjects were used to measure the subjects' obstacle recognition distance according to changes in weather conditions, road lighting grade, and road lighting color temperature. As a result, it was analyzed that there was a clear trend of change in obstacle recognition distance depending on the change in each condition. It was found that, under the same road lighting performance conditions, there was a difference of up to 72.86% by weather condition; under the same weather conditions, there was a difference of up to 22.75% by road lighting grade; and by color temperature, there was a difference of up to 21.87%. In addition, a statistical significance test was performed to support the existence of a difference, and the results were synthesized to suggest that obstacle recognition distance can be used as a performance measure of effectiveness of road lighting in adverse weather. Comparative sequence analysis permits unraveling the molecular processes underlying gene evolution. Many statistical methods generate candidate positions within genes, such as fast or slowly evolving sites, coevolving groups of residues, sites undergoing positive selection, or changes in evolutionary rates. Understanding the functional causes of these evolutionary patterns requires combining the results of these analyses and mapping them onto molecular structures, a complex task involving distinct coordinate referential systems. To ease this task, we introduce the site/group extended data format, a simple text format to store (groups of) site annotations. We developed a toolset, the SgedTools, which permits site/group extended data file manipulation, creating them from various software outputs and translating coordinates between individual sequences, alignments, and three-dimensional structures. The package also includes a Monte-Carlo procedure to generate random site samples, possibly conditioning on site-specific features. En-bloc retraction is a common procedure in orthodontic therapy. The application of palatal root torque moments is required to control incisor inclination during retraction, yet studies comparing forces and moments with respect to different mechanics are lacking. This study aimed to investigate the forces and moments during orthodontic en-bloc retraction using a robotic biomechanical simulation system, comparing two distinct approaches: (I) compound technique [stainless steel (SS) combined with nickel-titanium (NiTi)] using industrially pretorqued retraction-torque-archwires (RTA) in combination with NiTi closed coil springs; (II) conventional sliding mechanics using SS archwires with manually applied anterior twist bends in combination with elastic chains. Two dimensions (0.017" × 0.025" and 0.018" × 0.025") and ten archwires per group were investigated using 0.022" slot self-ligating brackets. The biomechanical simulation showed that en-bloc retraction was characterized by a series of tipping and uprighting movements, differing significantly regarding the examined mechanics. Collateral forces and moments occurred in all groups. Notably, RTA exhibited fewer extrusive forces. The most bodily movement was achieved with the compound technique and the 0.018" × 0.025" RTA. The internal validity of a causal inference made based on an observational study is often subject to debate. The potential outcomes framework of causal inference stipulates that causal inference is essentially a missing data problem, and we follow this spirit to define the ideal sample as the combination of the observed data and the missing/counterfactual data for regression models. The robustness of a causal inference can be quantified by the probability of a robust inference for internal validity in regression, i.e., the PIVR, which is the probability of rejecting the null hypothesis again for the ideal sample provided the same null hypothesis has been already rejected for the observed sample. Drawing on the relationship between the PIVR and the mean counterfactual outcomes, we formalize a conceptual framework of quantifying the robustness of a regression-based causal inference based on a joint distribution about the mean counterfactual outcomes, holding the observed sample fixed. Interpretatively, the PIVR is the statistical power of the null hypothesis significance testing that is thought to be built on the ideal sample. Data-driven most powerful tests are statistical hypothesis decision-making tools that deliver the greatest power against a fixed null hypothesis among all corresponding data-based tests of a given size. When the underlying data distributions are known, the likelihood ratio principle can be applied to conduct most powerful tests. Reversing this notion, we consider the following questions. (a) Assuming a test statistic, say T, is given, how can we transform T to improve the power of the test? (b) Can T be used to generate the most powerful test? (c) How does one compare test statistics with respect to an attribute of the desired most powerful decision-making procedure? To examine these questions, we propose one-to-one mapping of the term "most powerful" to the distribution properties of a given test statistic via matching characterization. This form of characterization has practical applicability and aligns well with the general principle of sufficiency. Findings indicate that to improve a given test, we can employ relevant ancillary statistics that do not have changes in their distributions with respect to tested hypotheses. As an example, the present method is illustrated by modifying the usual t-test under nonparametric settings. Hypothesis Descriptions are a type of manuscript dedicated to the formal description of a hypothesis, as introduced in an accompanying editorial and an examplary Hypothesis Description for the Enemy Release Hypothesis that is used in invasion biology. This questionnaire provides a template for such a Hypothesis Description manuscript. The template's format was designed for simplicity to facilitate adoption, and it can be easily extended to capture additional information, e.g. instructions for falsification or generalization, taxonomic or geographic scope, etymology, or relevant information in other research fields or other languages. The template reflects the recommended structure for a Hypothesis Description manuscript in that each of its sections provides the title for a section in a Hypothesis Description manuscript and indicates whether that section is mandatory or optional. Four sections - Keywords (mandatory), Conflicts of interest (optional), Acknowledgments (optional) and References (mandatory) - are in this template filled in for the template itself but should otherwise be adjusted for the hypothesis at hand. Hypotheses play a central role in the scientific process, yet the way they are introduced often leaves much room for interpretation, which makes it difficult to use them later on: to study and test them, to delineate their scope and to explore the relationships they have to other hypotheses or concepts, to datasets, methodologies or other resources. Here, we introduce a new article type in RIO that is dedicated to them: Hypothesis Descriptions. Such articles combine a specific verbal definition of a hypothesis with a concise description of its components and provide pointers to prior work as well as alignments with formal ways of knowledge representation, optionally including relevant nanopublications. With this format, we aim to facilitate the study of hypotheses in and of themselves, to improve their testability along with the documentation and interpretability of such tests, and to stimulate efforts towards standardization and automation in this space. This paper provides a brief overview of a major hypothesis in invasion biology: the enemy release hypothesis. Building on a summary of different previous definitions, we provide the following revised definition: "A reduced pressure by enemies in the non-native range contributes to invasion success." Further, we suggest formalizing the hypothesis in the basic form 'subject - relationship - object' to allow for disambiguating the different existing meanings and enhancing their usability by machines. This paper empirically evaluates the impact of ownership structure on the cost of credit in US banks. It does so by comparing their grouped option-adjusted credit spreads on the outstanding debt issues. As the overall risk of the creditors is reflected in the yield spread of the firms' outstanding bonds, separately classifying bank-holding companies and stand-alone banks and controlling risk ratings, maturities, and issue sizes enables us to compare the yield spreads tied to ownership structure. After computing the option-adjusted yield spreads of outstanding operating and holding company bonds, we used these values in a master regression equation to test the statistical and economic significance of the binary variable separating the option-adjusted spreads of the two sets. Our work finds that when the S&P ranks and maturities are controlled, US bank-holding companies finances with higher cost of credit compared with stand-alone banks, although holding companies add a layer of liability protection due to the legal separation between the assets and the owners. This suggests that certain characteristics of US bank-holding companies, such as higher leverage and higher systematic risk levels, make them riskier compared with traditional stand-alone banks, offsetting the benefits of forming a holding company. In this article, we propose a multifactorial approach to salience analysis, examining the influence of five factors on the salience of referential entities in discourse. Significance tests and Cramer's V tests were conducted to analyze textual data obtained through manual annotation of four text excerpts in French and in Chinese. The results show that almost all the factors have a significant influence on referents' salience (except the animacy factor in one of the excerpts). While it seems difficult to predict a fixed ranking of salience factors, which depends more on textual characteristics than on differences between the two languages, the different values of each factor under investigation show an identical behavior in terms of the positive/negative contribution to salience. The results also suggest that some factors (syntactic function and syntactic parallelism) may have a more stable influence on referents' salience than other factors (animacy, mobility, and main character), potentially constrained by textual properties such as the main character's nature, its number of occurrences, and the possible existence of competing protagonists. Patient-physician communication has the potential to improve outcomes and satisfaction through the shared decision-making process (SDM). This study aims to assess the relationship between perception of SDM and demographic, clinical, and patient-reported outcomes in patients undergoing Hallux Valgus (HV) correction. A prospective analysis of 306 patients scheduled for HV surgery was completed. The CollaboRATE score was used to measure SDM. Multivariable linear regression model was used to assess whether SDM scores were associated with preoperative characteristics or postoperative outcome scores. The mean CollaboRATE score was 2.9 (SD 0.9) and did not differ by age, socioeconomic status, or sex. Lower CollaboRATE scores were associated with more symptoms of depression, lower socioeconomic status, and lower general health scores (p-value < 0.05). There was no association between SDM scores and postoperative outcome scores. In this study, patients with depressive symptoms and lower socioeconomic status had worse perceptions of SDM. Since the crystallinity of hydroxyapatite created by bioactive sealers could affect their solubility percentage, this study aimed to analyze the degree of crystallinity and mineral maturity of hydroxyapatite crystals formed by bioactive (Cerafil and Endosequence) root canal sealers. Set discs of each sealer were submerged, either in deionized water or phosphate buffer solution (PBS). After 30 days, the crystallinity indices, crystal size, and mineral maturity were determined. The data were statistically analyzed using ANOVA and Student's t tests with significance set at p < 0.05. After immersion in PBS, Endosequence had the most significant value of mineral maturity (1030/1110Raman) and PO4/amide IFTIR ratio. However, the CO3/PO4 ratio was reduced by both solutions, particularly by PBS. There was no significant difference between both bioactive sealers. Compared to Endosequence, Cerafil had the highest crystallinity indices for CIXRD, CIFTIR, and CIRaman. AH-26 had a significantly greater crystal size (p < 0.001). There was no significant difference in the crystal size of the Cerafil and Endosequence bioactive sealers (p > 0.05). Overall, Cerafil and Endosequence successfully formed hydroxyapatite crystals when exposed to PBS, with high CIs obtained by Cerafil. The crystallinity and mineral maturity of Cerafil and Endosequence were comparable. On the other hand, AH-26 failed to produce hydroxyapatite. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
