Interface engineering in complex oxide superlattices is a growing field, enabling manipulation of the exceptional properties of these materials, and also providing access to new phases and emergent physical phenomena. Here we demonstrate how interfacial interactions can induce a complex charge and spin structure in a bulk paramagnetic material. We investigate a superlattice (SLs) consisting of paramagnetic LaNiO3 (LNO) and highly spin-polarized ferromagnetic La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 (LCMO), grown on SrTiO3 (001) substrate. We observed emerging magnetism in LNO through an exchange bias mechanism at the interfaces in X-ray resonant magnetic reflectivity. We find non-symmetric interface induced magnetization profiles in LNO and LCMO which we relate to a periodic complex charge and spin superstructure. High resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy images reveal that the upper and lower interfaces exhibit no significant structural variations. The different long range magnetic order emerging in LNO layers demonstrates the enormous potential of interfacial reconstruction as a tool for tailored electronic properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A MgB2 film was deposited on an Al2O3 substrate (1102) using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and in situ annealing at 700 °C for 30 min. The thickness of the film was 600 nm. The film was investigated using a PPMS system from Quantum Design. The film presented a critical temperature of 36 K, and XRD analysis showed that the film is preferentially c-oriented. Transport properties that were measured or estimated included the following: upper critical field, HC2, irreversibility field, Hirr, activation energy, Uo, magnetoresistance, MR and I-V characteristics. We completed investigations under different magnetic fields (0-7 T) applied perpendicular to the film at different temperatures. The results showed the remarkable dependence of both TC and ΔTC on the field. ΔTC increased continually from 1.6 K at no field up to 3.8 K for 7 T. The strong dependence of Uo on the magnetic field was observed, but Uo decreased faster for high fields from 451 meV at 0 T down to 210 meV at 7 T. The sharp decrease of Uo indicated that the weakening of the effective pinning forces is more rapid at higher fields. HC2 and Hirr were estimated using the Arrhenius law, and the HC2(0) value was 21 T. The current-voltage (I-V) characteristics measurements at different conditions showed hysteresis in the critical current, IC, which was temperature- and magnetic field-dependent. Although the critical current degraded linearly with increasing magnetic field, the hysteresis width, ΔI, tended to decrease in value more quickly at higher temperatures. Hysteresis has been attributed to weaker intergrain coupling and larger effective fields at the grain boundaries in the film. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Gestational diabetes is a type of carbohydrate intolerance that is diagnosed for the first time during pregnancy. Researches have shown that gestational diabetes is associated with many negative prenatal and birth outcomes. Because of the complications such as infant death, several diabetics' mothers plan to stop breastfeeding. Research findings indicate a decrease in breastfeeding in mothers with gestational diabetes/ or contradictory tissues regarding the factors affecting the breastfeeding behavior of mothers with gestational diabetes and a special program to promote breastfeeding for these mothers based on the social and cultural conditions of Iranian society. The present study aims to design an interventional program with a mixed qualitative study based on the theory of planned behavior (PBT) to prevent the decrease of breastfeeding in diabetic mothers., Methods/design: A mixed methods exploratory design will be used to conduct this study in 3 phases. The first phase (qualitative): The purpose of the first phase is to understand the experience of breastfeeding mothers who had gestational diabetes, which will be done using the directed content analysis method. The purposive sampling will be used on pregnant mothers with gestational diabetes 30-34 weeks and mothers with infants (up to 6 months) with a history of gestational diabetes. The second phase include designing and implementing an educational program based on the PBT: Education will be conducted based on the needs assessment of the qualitative phase, the opinions of the focus group, and the literature review, then the breastfeeding behavior will be measured using the survey tool of "breastfeeding drop". The third phase: Interventional quantitative phase: The sample size will be carried out by a pilot study, then a designed program as an educational intervention for teaching breastfeeding behavior based on the PBT for 30-34 weeks pregnant mothers with gestational diabetes will be implemented during 3-4 sessions and breastfeeding behavior will be evaluated after delivery., Discussion: This is the first mixed-method study in Iran that led to implement an interventional program based on the theory of planned behavior. Because of the complications such as infant death, several diabetics' mothers plan to stop breastfeeding. The deposition of a ferromagnetic layer can affect the properties of high-temperature superconductors underneath. We investigated the influence of ferromagnetic CaRuO 3 on the properties of YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7-x (YBCO) superconducting thin films when the layers are either in direct contact or separated by a barrier layer of 5 nm SrTiO 3 . Detailed measurements of the magnetic moment of the superconductor and ferromagnet as a function of temperature and magnetic field have been performed using SQUID magnetometry. Magnetometry and relaxation measurements show that the modification of the superconducting properties of YBCO strongly depends on the interaction with the ferromagnetic layer on top. The barrier layer has a significant impact on both the supercon-ducting properties of the YBCO film and the ferromagnetic ordering of CaRuO 3 . The physical properties mentioned above were discussed in correlation with the materials' structure determined by XRD analysis.

Introduction: Identifying a potent biomarker for smoking cessation can play a key role in predicting prognosis and improving treatment outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of new biomarkers based on the levels of Cotinine (Cot) and carbon monoxide (CO) to the short- and long-term quit rates of nicotine replacement therapies (Nicotine Patch [NP] and Nicotine Lozenge [NL])., Methods: In this prospective interventional study, 124 smokers under treatment with the 5A's method were selected from an outpatient smoking cessation center in district 18 of Tehran City, Iran. The study was conducted from April 2016 to December 2018. They were divided into NP (n=56) and NL (n=61) intervention groups. The levels of Cot and CO were measured using ELISA and breath analysis at the beginning of the study. Three markers were calculated: Cot/CO, Cot to cigarette per day ratio (Cot/CPD), and CO/CPD. Binary logistic regression models and generalized estimating equations models were analyzed by SPSS software, version 21 to determine the chances of quitting smoking., Results: Of the NP participants, 30.4% and 19.6% were abstinent after 2 and 6 months, respectively, while NL was found less effective with 19.7% for 2-month follow-up and 13.1% for 6-month follow-up. The 6-month success of quitting attempts was significantly different for the NP participants at the second half of Cot/CO (P=0.029). Of the NL participants, CO/CPD would be a superior predictor for smoking cessation success (P>0.05)., Conclusion: The findings of this study suggested two markers of Cot/CO and CO/CPD in this order for the optimum treatment outcomes of NP and NL., Competing Interests: Conflict of interest The authors declared no conflict of interest., (Copyright© 2021 Iranian Neuroscience Society.)

Nowadays, fossil fuel is the most important source of energy. However, the sulfur oxide release through oxidation of the available sulfur and the resultant air pollution has turned into an issue. In biodesulfurization (BDS) process, the sulfur from the recalcitrant organic compounds dissolved in crude oil fractions will be removed biologically. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) exhibit good catalytic performance in dibenzothiophene (DBT) oxidation. Molecular dynamic simulation is the best and the only way to reach this end. Through this study, molecular dynamic simulations are applied to compute the effects of starch/CNTs on BDS process of DBT during 5 ns. The changes of cell length, energy, dynamic temperature, relative concentration of DBT, and radial distribution function (RDF) in the absence and presence of starch/CNTs were investigated. Regarding to the energy diagram, the fluctuation because of temperature fluctuations reaches the stable state. The high level of the first peak in RDF diagram showed the high and long desulfurization by microorganism. All the results showed stable and reasonable equilibrium state of the system. According to the graphs, the simultaneous in the presence of starch/CNT and Rhodococcus erythropolis increase the removal efficiency of nitrate reached 85% and in the absence of nanoparticle was 35.44%.
