The last two decades saw multiple attempts to explain how the self is represented in the brain within the framework of the Bayesian brain. However, these attempts largely focused on describing a developed, adult self-representation. The current paper argues that looking at the developmental trajectory is crucial for understanding the structure of self-representation. It argues that emergence of self-representations should be understood as an instance of the process of acquisition of new internal models of hidden causes of sensory input. The paper proposes how such models emerge and develop over the course of life by looking at different stages of development of bodily and extra-bodily self-representations. It argues that the self arises gradually in a series of discrete steps: from first-person multisensory representations of one's body to third-person multisensory body representation, and from basic forms of the extended and social selves to progressively more complex forms of abstract self-representation. It discusses how each of them might emerge based on domain-general learning mechanisms, while also taking into account the potential role of innate representations. Label distribution learning is an effective learning approach for addressing label polysemy in the field of machine learning. In contrast to multi-label learning, label distribution learning can accurately represent the relative importance of labels and has richer semantic information about labels. Presently label distribution learning algorithms frequently integrate label correlation into their models to narrow down the assumption space of the model. However, existing label distribution learning works on label correlation use one-to-one or many-to-one correlation which has limitations in representing more complex correlation relationships. To address this issue, we attempt to extend the existing correlation relationships to many-to-many relationships. Specifically, we first construct a many-to-many correlation mining framework based on self-representation. Then by using the learned many-to-many correlation, a label distribution learning algorithm is designed. Our algorithm achieved the best performance in 78.21 % of cases across all datasets and all performance metrics with the algorithm having the best average ranking. It also demonstrated statistical superiority compared to the comparison algorithms in pairwise two-tailed t-tests. This paper introduces a novel approach to representing and applying label correlations in label distribution learning. The article explores the role of private archives through the case study of the Tasca d’Almerita papers. It focuses, specifically, on how these archives can be used for mythopoetic and identity-building purposes, both familial and entrepreneurial. At the center, there is Giuseppe Mastrogiovanni Tasca’s operation of remodeling and organizing the Tasca d’Almerita archives, an aristocratic Sicilian family dedicated to wine production for generations, emphasizing how his work at the same time responds to needs of management and self-representation. The contribution, therefore, aims to highlight the importance of archives also as narrative devices, considering the implications of the ex post selection and organization of archives by the producers themselves, archivists of themselves.

Speech emotion recognition (SER) methods rely on frames to analyze the speech data. However, the existing methods typically divide a speech sample into smaller speech frames and label them with a single emotional tag, which fails to consider the possibility of multiple emotion tags coexisting within a speech sample. To deal with this limitation, we present a novel approach called self-labeling learning ensemble via DRNN and self-representation (En-DRNN-SR) for SER. This method automatically segments speech sample into speech frames, and then the deep recurrent neural network (DRNN) is applied to learn the deep features, and next the self-representation is built to get a relational degree matrix, finally the speech frames is divided into three parts using a relational degree matrix: the key emotional frames, the compatible emotional frames and the noise frames. The emotion tags of the compatible emotional frames are adaptive cyclic learned based on the key emotion frames vias the relational degree matrix, while also checking the emotion tags associated with the key compatible frames. Additionally, we introduce a new self-labeling criterion based on fuzzy membership degree for SER. To evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed En-DRNN-SR, we conducted extensive experiments on IEMOCAP, EMODB, and SAVEE database, the proposed En-DRNN-SR obtains 69.13%, 82.83%, and 52.31% results on IEMOCAP, EMODB, and SAVEE database, which outperformed all competing algorithms. The experimental results clearly demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art SER methods, achieving superior performance on feature learning and classification. Lack of diversity in IDD research is typically conceptualized only in terms of (1) recruitment of samples that do not appropriately represent the sociodemographics of the population, or (2) the limited number of researchers from historically marginalized backgrounds. Critically, the field also suffers from over-reliance on perspectives and social systems of dominant culture-both in how disability is regarded and in relation to other dimensions of identity and culture. These lenses lead to research findings that reinforce, rather than reduce, social inequities. We propose a framework that minimizes reliance on diagnostic categories, shifts from deficit- to person-centered models, acknowledges people's multiple identities, and includes self-advocates and diverse communities as partners in the research enterprise. The systems change necessary to support this framework is described.

Abstract Alexander von Humboldt has been praised and criticized throughout history depending on different readings and interests. The account of his encounters during his American voyage can shed light on the foundations for criticism and praise. This essay addresses the critical attitude of botanist and astronomer Francisco José de Caldas towards Alexander von Humboldt in years 1801 to 1803. Resumen Alexander von Humboldt ha sido exaltado y criticado a través de la historia en función de lecturas e intereses diversos. La relación de sus encuentros en el curso de su viaje americano puede dar luces sobre el fundamento de las críticas y los elogios. Este ensayo aborda la actitud crítica del botánico y astrónomo Francisco José de Caldas hacia Alexander von Humboldt en los años 1801 a 1803. Résumé Alexander von Humboldt a été loué et critiqué tout au long de l'histoire, en fonction des lectures et des intérêts particuliers. Le récit de ses rencontres lors de son voyage en Amérique peut éclairer les fondements des critiques et des éloges. This paper analyses the self-representations of Portuguese media professionals and their work practices. Utilizing data from a broader empirical study, this paper delves into the dynamics of influence among various actors within newsrooms. Based on journalists’ perceptions of the content, the methods they use to assess the quality of the news are also identified. To address these enquiries, a survey was conducted among professionals engaged in the news production process. This sample comprised 72 individuals from various sectors of newsrooms, including photographers, designers, IT professionals, social media managers, and videographers. The main results indicate that seven out of ten respondents acknowledged their reliance on colleagues in newsrooms for success. Furthermore, the data suggest that there are no significant disparities among different professionals, with personal satisfaction emerging as the primary criterion for assessing the work quality. It is notable that almost twice as many women tend to indicate the low impact of the journalist on their work compared to male respondents. Moreover, most respondents stated that there is space for hybrid professionals in newsrooms.

Due to the development of social networks and the Internet of things, we recently have faced with large datasets. High-dimensional data is mixed with redundant and irrelevant features, so the performance of machine learning methods is reduced. Feature selection is a common way to tackle this issue with the aim of choosing a small subset of relevant and non-redundant features. Most of the existing feature selection works are for supervised applications, which assume that the information on class labels is available. While in many real-world applications, it is not possible to provide complete knowledge of class labels. To overcome this shortcoming, an unsupervised feature selection method is proposed in this paper. The proposed method uses the matrix factorization-based regularized self-representation model to weight features based on their importance. Here, we initialize the weights of features based on the correlation among features. Several experiments are performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Then the results are compared with several baselines and state-of-the-art methods, which show the superiority of the proposed method in most cases.

Although prior research has implied that emotional contagion occurs automatically and unconsciously, convincing evidence suggests that it is significantly influenced by individuals' perceptions of their relationships with others or with collectives within specific social contexts. This implies a role for self-representation in the process. The present study aimed to offer a novel explanation of the interplay between social contexts and emotional contagion, focusing on the contextualized nature of self-representation and exploring the social factors that shape emotional contagion. It further posits a causal loop among social contexts, self-representation, and emotional contagion. Drawing from the lens of self-representation, this study concludes with a discussion on potential research directions in this field, commencing with an exploration of the antecedents and consequences of emotional contagion and selfrepresentation. "Listing the Body: Embodied Experience and Identity in Autobiographical Graphic Illness Narratives" examines the popular use of lists in autobiographical graphic illness narratives to determine how they are used to address the subject's embodied experience of illness. After a brief discussion of what lists are and how they have been said to function in literary texts, attention is given to examining how the verbal and visual lists included in several autobiographical graphic illness narratives narrate identity as understood across the body, in the mind of the self, and in the mind of others. Asking how lists function within autobiographical graphic illness narratives to address the ill subject's fluctuating understanding of self as an embodied being, the article concludes that lists narrate the subject's lived experience of illness. This article addresses the notion of the web as a mirrored sphere. The debate about the primacy of a psychomorphic vision of reality, associated with the use of the new technologies of connectivity, is here related with the practices of self-representation and hipervisibilisation that are characteristic of the new communicative and social habits that take place in the network-system.

Edward Said advocated for Palestinians to tell their own stories, emphasizing the need of self-representation in literature, politics, and cultural discourse. He believed that by reclaiming their narratives, Palestinians might combat inaccurate portrayals, counter negative stereotypes, and assert their autonomy in constructing their history and identity. This study argues that Susan Abulhawa's Mornings in Jenin echoes Said's call for self-representation by using storytelling to communicate a Palestinian perspective. Abulhawa's method provides an alternative narrative to external portrayals, which may perpetuate misunderstandings or oversimplify complex reality. This study focuses exclusively on Edward Said's concept of self-representation while examining Susan Abulhawa's Mornings in Jenin. The question was raised using a postcolonial methodology. The data for the study was obtained from Susan Abulhawa's novel Mornings in Jenin, which was published by Bloomsbury Publishing in 2010. So, this study investigates the Palestinian perspective on the conflict as a decolonial strategy aimed at developing a political platform for Palestinians through a focus on their experiences and struggles under Israeli occupation. In sum, the author`s narrative contributes to a broader conversation on Palestinian identity, dispossession, and resistance.

Objective/Context: With a modernizing discourse and business partners, former Peruvian president Alan García led the sale of indigenous Amazonian lands to oil companies. The Awajun and Wampis peoples responded, alongside national and international allies, by demanding the application of ILO Convention 169 through various mobilizations known as “el Baguazo” (2007-2009). This study analyzes, from a deliberative perspective, how the visibility of the arguments and cultural representations of indigenous peoples influenced their self-representation in the public sphere. Methodology: Based on the review of journalistic sources, government reports, statements from national and international organizations, and literature on social conflict and indigenous peoples, the chronology and discourses of the conflict were reconstructed. Conclusions: The mobilized indigenous communities self-represented, expressing their demands and cultural identities (cosmogonies, notions of territory, and development), opposing the sale of their lands. In this way, public spaces emerged, breaking into the national imagination, where sectors of the Peruvian citizenship recognized them for the first time. A network of allies reproduced and supported the indigenous arguments, lending them credibility to those who were unfamiliar with them. However, it was a partial advance as it remained limited to the cultural sphere without translating into the political realm, which is evident in the obtained Law of Prior Consultation (2011), which disregarded their sovereignty. Originality: While the literature on socio-environmental conflicts focuses on actors and strategies, this article emphasizes the arguments of indigenous peoples, their deliberation, dissemination, and power of persuasion in the face of the rest of the Peruvian citizenry.

The concept of vertex geography is proposed as the space in which executive mothers are simultaneously present in the domestic and work environments through the virtuality facilitated by technological devices (cell phone, computer, tablet). 16 mothers in Monterrey between 36 and 45 years old with a managerial position were interviewed to detect what the dynamics are like within the vertex geography and what are its spatial and discursive limits. The results are exposed from narratives of self-representation in this space, which allow to conclude that the use of technological devices perpetuates the double shift of the interviewees; but also, that its use defies the rule of physical closeness as the only way to exercise motherhood. В статье представлен анализ метафор, используемых руководителями и сотрудниками организаций, для выявления особенностей их самопредставления и профессиональной идентичности. На основании теорий когнитивной лингвистики, теории габитуса Пьера Бурдьё, социолингвистики, критического дискурс-анализа проведен опрос руководителей и сотрудников различных организаций (336 человек), позволяющий членам коллектива оценить свою социальную роль в организации через метафору. В результате исследования были выявлены ключевые категории организационных метафор (лидерство, командная работа, самооценка), представлена типология метафор с позиций когнитивистики. Осуществлен анализ метафор в корпоративной культуре в отношении эмоционального отклика и самоидентификации, социокогнитивных аспектов корпоративной культуры. Проведенное исследование организационных метафор позволяет понять, как руководители и сотрудники воспринимают и интерпретируют различные аспекты своей работы и профессиональной среды, а также с какой степенью они принимают или ассимилируют корпоративную культуру.

This article argues in favour of the recognition of biometric harm, which is a specific type of harm arising from the use of biometrics to identify and classify people without a valid legal justification. The importance and pervasiveness of biometric technologies have increased. The development of biometric systems is rapidly advancing; however, their potential negative implications for individuals and society are routinely dismissed or willingly ignored. Biometrics deeply affects some of the basic needs of humans, including the need to step out of one’s social identities to enjoy unobserved time and the need to self-represent oneself in all social relationships. Such necessities are preserved by the legal system via high-ranked provisions that protect personhood, dignity, the right to private life and the right to express one’s personality. Because of these negative effects on core human necessities and legal values, this paper submits that biometric identification should be considered harmful, unless justified by another equally fundamental legal value. In line with other restrictions of the involved fundamental values, necessity and law enforcement purposes may justify biometric identification. Conversely, it is submitted that consent, while essential, does not fulfil the requirements of a stand-alone justification for biometric harm.

The problem of inadequate media representation of disabled people has been changed in recent years by social media, owing to which disabled people can gain at least partial control over their image in public space and thus influence how non-disabled people see them. The article aims to discuss the results of the research on how disabled people use social media to create their image and how this image is different from the one present in traditional media. The study used a qualitative content analysis of the most popular Instagram profiles created by disabled people and addressing disability-related issues. The analysis shows that disabled Instagram users create their image effectively and actively, and the portrayal that emerges from their narratives differs significantly from the dominant ways of presenting disabled people in the mass media, i.e. as “victims” and “supercrips”.

In recent years, multi-view spectral clustering has become a research hotspot of multi-view learning. However, it cannot directly handle incomplete multi-view data, while such data is very common in the real world. Besides, the adjacent graph is the key for multi-view spectral clustering and the artificial graph construction methods cannot obtain satisfactory performance. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a novel incomplete multi-view spectral clustering method called Incomplete Multi-view Clustering based on Self-representation (IMCS). To accurately represent the relation between data samples, IMCS constructs the adjacent graph of each view by self-representation. To obtain the consistency of multiple views, IMCS fuses the adjacent graphs from different views and utilizes the fused graph to perform spectral clustering. To reduce the negative effect of missing data, IMCS utilizes existing data to reconstruct incomplete data and integrates the reconstruction objective with self-representation based spectral clustering. IMCS is compared with several state-of-the-art multi-view clustering approaches on benchmark multi-view datasets. Experimental results demonstrate the superior effectiveness of IMCS. An Comunn Gaidhealach, as the main representative of the Scottish Gaelic Movement in the late nineteenth century, pursued the essential objectives of cultivating, teaching, and promoting Gaelic language, literature, music, and culture. Its members closely collaborated with their counterparts from other so-called Celtic countries, which subsequently resulted in the formation of other pan-Celtic institutions around 1900. The countries involved supported each other in achieving similar goals through common initiatives. This article explores the nature of Celtic connections through the study of the self-representation of the Gaelic language movement. It defines the most articulated topics for An Comunn Gaidhealach and identifies to what extent Celticism was part of the society’s self-representation. An Comunn Gaidhealach looked at the experience of other Celtic countries as a source of inspiration. While Celtic identity formed a negligible part of An Comunn Gaidhealach’s self-representation, a strong Celtic element was present in its discursive strategies and in the argumentation processes, both inspired by Welsh and Irish revivalist movements. The society defended Gaelic language rights, presented itself as a patron to Gaelic education, and organised the Mòd festival, all the while embracing all political and religious beliefs. The methodology of the research, inspired by Israeli sociologist Ruth Amossy, analyzes the discourse of An Deo-Gréine, the official magazine of An Comunn Gaidhealach. This perspective highlights how An Comunn Gaidhealach intended to be perceived, what discursive strategies it employed, and subsequently, how and to what extent there was a pan-Celtic aspect to its work. The results of the analysis are complemented by archival research. The conceptual framework of the study is embedded in comparative and transnational approaches to historical research. This approach is reflected in understanding the formation of collective identities from a perspective that transcends nation-states rather than focusing solely on a national context. The film elements, especially in documentary or essay films, carry the director's point of view more prominently. A Dog Called Money (2019) is a film with essayistic and documentary features by photographer Seamus Murphy about the creation process of English musician PJ Harvey's album, The Hope Six Demolition Project. The film focuses on the artists' journey in Afghanistan, Kosovo, and Washington, DC, and the album's production process, which takes place in a live museum exhibition. Murphy uses visual narrative, while Harvey takes on the textual and auditory narrator role with voice-over, text, and music. Therefore, this study analyses the textual and audio-visual features of the documentary film that reflect the self-representation of both artists. The representation form created by the multiple narrators that the film's narrative varies between the essay and the documentary genre is interpreted in the context of image, sound, and text. In this article, I analyse how the COVID-19 crisis crystalised and fuelled the vigorous role of Amazonian indigenous artists as, what I call, "agents of interface", enabling connectivity, translation, networking and bridging information, ontologies, claims, and aesthetics. With the pandemic's spatial restrictions and the reduction of global activity in the arts with a return to focusing on the local, I argue that it is important to look at interfaces as arenas from which to understand further reconfigurations, actions, and values in the arts. Based on the project and exhibition Ite!/Neno!/Here!: Responses to COVID-19 co-curated by the indigenous artist Rember Yahuarcani and me, and on other various initiatives, this paper explores how Amazonian indigenous artists became crucial agents of the interface in four main arenas providing first-hand, real-time information of the impact of COVID-19 at Amazonian urban and rural settings, channelling networks of aid and curation, connecting different agents and worlds, and engaging in curatorial collaborations. I argue that by acting at the interface, artists have reinforced their voices, while pushing for redefinitions of and positions in the art system and suggest that the COVID-19 crisis has introduced a new moment in the configuration of Peru's art scene. Dictionary learning is an effective feature learning method, leading to many remarkable results in data representation and classification tasks. However, dictionary learning is performed on the original data representation. In some cases, the capability of representation and discriminability of the learned dictionaries may need to be performed better, i.e., with only sparse but not low rank. In this paper, we propose a novel efficient data representation learning method by combining dictionary learning and self-representation, which utilizes both properties of sparsity in dictionary learning and low-rank in low-rank representation (LRR) simultaneously. Thus both the sparse and low-rank properties of the data representation can be naturally captured by our method. To obtain the solution of our proposed method effectively, we also innovatively introduce a more generalized data representation model in this paper. To our best knowledge, its closed-form solution is first derived analytically through our rigorous mathematical analysis. Experimental results show that our method not only can be used for data pre-processing but also can realize better dictionary learning. This article argues in favour of the recognition of biometric harm, which is a specific type of harm arising from the use of biometrics to identify and classify people without a valid legal justification. The importance and pervasiveness of biometric technologies have increased. The development of biometric systems is rapidly advancing; however, their potential negative implications for individuals and society are routinely dismissed or willingly ignored. Biometrics deeply affects some of the basic needs of humans, including the need to step out of one’s social identities to enjoy unobserved time and the need to self-represent oneself in all social relationships. Such necessities are preserved by the legal system via high-ranked provisions that protect personhood, dignity, the right to private life and the right to express one’s personality. Because of these negative effects on core human necessities and legal values, this paper submits that biometric identification should be considered harmful, unless justified by another equally fundamental legal value. In line with other restrictions of the involved fundamental values, necessity and law enforcement purposes may justify biometric identification. Conversely, it is submitted that consent, while essential, does not fulfil the requirements of a stand-alone justification for biometric harm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Significant demand for biographical and autobiographical works as fiction and scientific reading in recent decades has been accompanied by the so-called “biographical turn” in humanities, in particular philosophy. In this connection, the relevance of determining the scientific-methodological and practical life-creating potential in the selfreflective practice of creating a biography/autobiography is growing. Target setting. There is a controversy surrounding the question of whether the biographical approach has sufficient methodological potential. Biographers see an inseparable connection between the biography of an individual and the socio-cultural conditions of his existence. Anti-biographers separate science from the biography of a scientist, and deny the importance of studying the life circumstances of individuals for a better understanding of their scientific and creative achievements. A significant impetus for understanding and involvement of the scientific potential embedded in the life description practices was given in works of F. Schleiermacher, V. Dilthey, K. Jaspers, J.- P. Menzhulin have especially carefully worked out the biographical discourse within the framework of philosophical science and have derived some thorough, in our opinion, methodological principles The research objective. This research examines biography and autobiography as a socio-cultural and cultural-anthropological phenomenon by identifying the differences and similarities between them. We will also explore fiction and/or falsified biography as a selfreflective practice and explore its methodological potential in relation to reality. Differences between biography and autobiography at the socio-cultural and cultural-anthropological level can be of fundamental importance in the case when the biography serves as a practice of distinguishing between the “I” of the narrator and the Others. The difference between the two genres becomes fundamental at the level of consideration of the character against the background of his social environment, historical and cultural circumstances. An important question for modern researchers is the border that separates the autobiographical narrative, which strives to be as close as possible to reality, from the imaginary or even deliberately constructed. Perhaps the most important work that reflects the transition from ancient memoirs, epistles and self-reflective lyrics, as well as the genre of medieval hagiography to autobiography itself, is the “Confessions” of Augustine Aurelius, in which many researchers see the first complete work built using psychological introspection. Autobiography as a separate genre in the modern sense took shape at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th centuries, standing out from other works that contained elements of self-reflection, subjectivity, and authorial self-identification. In the post-industrial era, biographical/autobiographical collisions take on the most sophisticated form and vividly express the relationship between the individual and society. The conflict on the boundary of Self/Other deepens, the importance of the connection between the author's life and his work increases in public consciousness, which turns into a kind of reaction of the most sensitive authors to the trends of the era. Conclusions. Biography/autobiography in a broad sense can be a practice of awareness, rethinking and mutual reflection of sociocultural, philosophical and culturalanthropological phenomena through the prism of experience and self-reflection practices of an individual. That is, we can consider biography/autobiography as a kind of bridge between narrative and existential dimensions. From the point of view of the methodological potential, the biographical approach cannot build a methodological justification from itself and needs a justification that refers to a higher level of the humanitarian paradigm. The national analysis on how DGASPCs (General Directorates of Social Assistance and Child Protection) facilitate the self-representation process of children under state care is an important and necessary endeavour in the context of child protection. In this regard, the attention given to the accurate representation of children within protective institutions is a key aspect in ensuring their harmonious development. It is important for children’s representation to be formalised, allowing for transparency and accessibility to all those who wish to be involved. Additionally, special attention must be given to developing independent living skills and preparing children for adulthood. This way, children can develop critical thinking abilities and express their opinions, enabling their involvement in decision-making processes.

Rapid growth of national and international social networking sites has generated concerns and issues regarding users’ online self-presentation all around the world. Therefore, the present qualitative study seeks to examine the self-disclosure strategies used by Iranian high school students on a national educational social networking site (SNS), called SHAD. For this purpose, a sample of 425 high school students were selected using a random sampling method. The participants’ profile texts expressing themselves on SHAD were collected and analyzed through a thematic coding analysis. Results yielded four overarching themes, including “life management and goal setting”, “religious prayers and beliefs”, “love matters”, and “didactic texts and quotations”. The extracted themes were carefully discussed in line with Bourdieu’s “field”, “habitus”, and “Doxa” notions. Additionally, the findings evidenced that, due to high exposure of modern students to the world culture through the Internet, the “field” through which the students manifested their “habitus”, as situated literacy practices, may be rooted in both the national and international fields. It is evidently clear from the findings that, in order obtain a wider picture of students’ psychological states, incessant investigations into their self-presentation strategies on online spaces are of a high priority for educational psychologists and planners.

What is the future vision of children in a Pupil Referral Unit in North London? How does Budapest’s skateboarding subculture create its own representation? What do Prague residents do on the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution? These are a few of the wide-ranging topics explored by the filmmakers of MyStreet. Launched in the early 2010s, the MyStreet project, modelled on the UK’s Mass Observation movement, expanded traditional academic forms of knowledge production to include broad social groups, researching everyday experiences and publishing the videos on a map-based website. This article presents the history and connections between MyStreet and its historical predecessor, the British Mass Observation movement of the 1930s, and then analyses some videos from the collection to examine how MyStreet enables marginalized groups to represent themselves.1

The film elements, especially in the documentary or essay films, carry the director's point of view more prominently. A Dog Called Money (2019) is a film with essayistic and documentary features by photographer Seamus Murphy about the creation process of British musician PJ Harvey's latest album, The Hope Six Demolition Project. The film focuses on the artists' journey in Afghanistan, Kosovo, and Washington DC and the album's production process, which takes place in a live museum exhibition. Murphy uses visual narrative, while Harvey takes on the role of the textual and auditory narrator with voice-over, text, and music. Therefore, this study analyses the textual and audio-visual features of the documentary film that reflect the self-representation of both artists. The representation form created by the layered narrators that the film's narrative varies between the essay and the documentary genre is interpreted in the context of image, sound, and text.

April 22, 2022 marked the hundredth anniversary of Jacques Stephen Alexis’ birth and the sixty-first anniversary of his tragic death. In the absence of a memorial to honour his memory, the popular and literary imagination has taken hold of him, building a legend or creating a literary myth. This article shows how Alexis has inserted himself in his novels and then examines how various authors have appropriated his story and contributed to the creation of a virtual memorial in the absence of a physical one.

This article is dedicated to discussing how the possibility of producing one's own stories and narrating one's experiences enables the perception of the plurality of experiences of transgender persons. Focusing on the graphic memoir scene, we evaluate the maturity of this medium to, in sequence, present a brief analysis of Monstrans: experiencing horrormones, autobiographical graphic novel by Brazilian comic artist Lino Arruda, addressing both the different ways in which the author visually constructs his self-representation and the way he cuts and structures moments of his life.
