- Abstract
Economic inequality has a huge impact on well-being, also affecting adolescents, who are the future agents of our societies. Nevertheless, research often overlooks their perspectives on economic inequality, poverty, and their attitudes towards its reduction. The present research evaluates adolescents’ perceived and ideal economic inequality, causal attributions of poverty, support for collective action against economic inequality and meritocratic beliefs (in school or in general). Findings from this cross-sectional study involving Spanish adolescents (N = 942) reveal age-related differences being older teenagers who had higher ideal economic inequality, more general meritocratic beliefs and made more external causal attributions of poverty. Younger teenagers show greater endorsement of belief in school meritocracy. Beliefs in school meritocracy moderate perceived economic inequality, with stronger endorsement correlating with increased economic inequality tolerance and lesser support for collective action as perceived economic inequality rises. External causal attributions of poverty and ideal economic inequality partially mediate the relationship between perceived economic inequality and support for collective action, shaping attitudes towards economic inequality and its reduction. Our research contributes to understanding adolescents’ comprehension of inequality and their motivation to reduce it. By shedding light on the mechanisms underlying adolescent perceptions of economic inequality and their implications for collective action, our findings pave the way for interventions and policies aimed at promoting social justice and well-being among adolescents and the rest of society., La desigualdad económica afecta al bienestar de las personas, incluyendo los/as adolescentes, los futuros agentes de nuestras sociedades.

Perceptions of gender inequality may motivate people to take action against inequality given its negative impact on various domains of people's everyday lives. Thus, it is crucial to develop reliable measures that consider the multidimensional nature of gender inequalities. In this research, we propose and assess the psychometric properties of the Multidimensional Gender Inequality Perception Scale (MuGIPS). This is a self-reported measure of perceived gender inequality in four domains: health, violence, household work and caregiving, and public sphere and power. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to test the validity and reliability of the MuGIPS with Spanish participants in three samples (N = 1733). The analyses revealed that the MuGIPS had a good internal consistency and showed four factors associated with gender inequality in the four specified domains. Moreover, scores in all the dimensions positively correlated with feminist identity and feminist ideology, as much as with some attitudinal variables. In contrast, results showed a negative correlation with system-justifying ideologies. The MuGIPS shows adequate reliability and validity for measuring the perception of gender inequality in the health, violence, household work and caregiving, and public sphere and power domains among Spanish university and general population samples. - Abstract
Past research has shown that economic inequality shapes individuals’ self-construals. However, it has been unclear which dimensions of self-construal are associated with and affected by economic inequality. A correlational (Study 1: N = 264) and an experimental study (Study 2: N = 532) provided converging evidence linking perceived economic inequality with two forms of independent (vs. interdependent) self-construal: Difference from Others and SelfReliance. In Study 3 (N = 12,634) societal differences in objective economic inequality across 48 nations predicted feelings of Difference from Others, but not Self-Reliance. Importantly, we found no significant associations of economic inequality with the other six dimensions of self-construal. Our findings help extend previous results linking economic inequality to forms of “social distance.”

- Abstract
In this study we tested whether economic inequality and democratic choices affected individuals' cooperative behavior. We expected two main effects: First one of inequality on cooperation and another of democratic choice on cooperation. We used the public goods game (N = 479), in which participants were given a certain number of tokens and decided how many they wanted to keep in their private fund and how many they wanted to share in the public goods. To manipulate economic inequality, we distributed participants’ initial tokens either equally, unequally or very unequally. To manipulation democratic choice, we presented a prescriptive norm to punish the free-riders, either chosen by the participants or imposed. Cooperative behavior was measured by the number of tokens that participants invested in the public goods ark. A mix design was used, including one between participants manipulated factor (democratic choice) and other one manipulated within participants (inequality distribution). As predicted, our findings showed a significant difference between the high and the low inequality condition on cooperative behavior. Participants cooperate with more tokens in the low (vs. high) inequality condition. However, when the prescriptive norm was introduced, this difference between inequality conditions disappeared. No differences in cooperation were found when the prescriptive norm was either democratically voted or imposed. Our findings showed evidence about the reduction of cooperation in unequal contexts. Additionally, prescriptive norms could reduce differences in cooperative behavior independently of inequality levels. The results show that the study of prescriptive norms could contribute to foment redistribution and tax compliance.

- Abstract
The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has entailed a radical change in teaching, which occurred suddenly and without the possibility to adequately train university professors. Factors such as personal situation, prior training in digital competencies for online teaching, or sex can play an important role in the stress levels of professors. The objective of this study was to understand how these factors affected professors’ stress levels during a period of the pandemic. Through a survey carried out via email, a total of 123 teachers from different Spanish universities were contacted, 96 of whom responded. The results obtained establish a positive correlation between the stress felt by professors and sex, number of children, prior knowledge of online teaching systems, as well as the use of social networks. These preliminary findings could serve to establish preventive protocols that would help to improve the quality of life of professors and, consequently, the quality of university teaching in similar situations that may arise in the future., La pandemia provocada por el COVID-19 ha supuesto un cambio radical en la docencia, acaecido de forma súbita y sin posibilidad de formar adecuadamente a los docentes universitarios.

- Abstract
In this study, we analyze the perception of economic inequality in everyday life in Spain based on political ideology. Using content analysis techniques, we processed 705 open-ended responses from 290 people and used network analysis to examine the relationships between the categories identified. We found that economic inequality is perceived primarily as social comparison and relative deprivation between individuals/groups. However, it is perceived more in terms of social justice when people are situated on the left (vs. the right) of the political spectrum. We discuss the perception of economic inequality as a multidimensional phenomenon situated in everyday life, which influences how we understand and react to social disparities., Resumo: Neste estudo, analisamos a percepção da desigualdade econômica na vida cotidiana de jovens na Espanha de acordo com a ideologia política. Economic inequality is related to multiple social and psychological consequences. The main objective of this research is to identify the relationship between objective economic inequality (GINI) and perceived economic inequality (PEI) with status consumption, materialism and indebtedness. Furthermore, the status seeking is analyzed as a possible mediator between inequality (objective/perceived) and statutory consumption; and the role of the perception of justice in the distribution of resources is explored. The research uses a ex post facto, retrospective design with multiple measures. Data were collected using a selfadministered questionnaire in two different contexts: Colombia (N = 217) and Spain (N = 119). The results shown that the relationship between objective inequality and the status consumption preferences is mediated by the status seeking (B = 0.10, SE = 0.03, 95 % IC = [0.0441, 0.1683]) and moderated by the perception of justice in the resources distribution (B = -0.25, SE = 0.10, t(322) = -2.49, p < 0.005). These results show how consumption preferences are defined not only by individual psychological variables, but also by ideological and social variables and economic conditions, being important to manipulate economic inequality in different scenarios to analyze if the results are maintained at the causal level.

- Abstract
Economic reality is an essential element in the life of individuals. Thus, it is relevant to understand the psychological and cultural effects of economic activity. We developed an integrated theory based on an ecocultural perspective, rooted in historical materialism and symbolic interactionism, that shows how certain psychological and cultural dynamics are impacted by economic activity. Specifically, we individually analysed the different stages of economic activity (i.e. production, distribution, and consumption) and how each one promotes individualist-collectivist dynamics.

People’s desired levels of inequality are informed by the levels of inequality they perceive to exist. Perceived economic inequality is used as a reference point in determining people’s ideal level of inequality. However, recent research has suggested that the strength of this relationship depends on people’s endorsement of system-justifying beliefs. The current article extends this body of research by replicating these findings across 41 countries (N = 42,078), showing the impact of system-justifying beliefs at both the individual and the societal levels. We conducted a multilevel analysis and found that the higher the endorsement of equality of opportunity beliefs—both at the individual and the societal levels—and meritocratic beliefs—at the individual level—the stronger the relationship between perceived and ideal economic inequality. These findings are in support of a motivated account of the perceived legitimacy of economic inequality.

Dijksterhuis and van Knippenberg (1998) reported that participants primed with an intelligentcategory (“professor”) subsequently performed 13.1% better on a trivia test than participantsprimed with an unintelligent category (“soccer hooligans”). Two unpublished replications of thisstudy by the original authors, designed to verify the appropriate testing procedures, observed asmaller difference between conditions (2-3%) as well as a gender difference: men showed theeffect (9.3% and 7.6%) but women did not (0.3% and -0.3%). The procedure used in thosereplications served as the basis for this multi-lab Registered Replication Report (RRR). A total of40 laboratories collected data for this project, with 23 laboratories meeting all inclusion criteria. Here we report the meta-analytic result of those 23 direct replications (total N = 4,493) of theupdated version of the original study, examining the difference between priming with professorand hooligan on a 30-item general knowledge trivia task (a supplementary analysis reportsresults with all 40 labs, N = 6,454). We observed no overall difference in trivia performancebetween participants primed with professor and those primed with hooligan (0.14%) and nomoderation by gender., 0, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract

Two studies investigated the process of emotion regulation in powerless groups. We predicted that members of powerless groups would reduce negative emotions when they perceived status differences as illegitimate and ascribed stereotypes to the outgroup. In Study 1 the opportunity to attribute outgroup stereotypes after reading about an illegitimate power distribution reduced negative emotions. By contrast, in socially legitimized powerless conditions participants maintained negative emotions over time, and supported more negative action tendencies towards the outgroup after expressing outgroup stereotypes. In Study 2 we increased the threat imposed by a powerful outgroup and found fear reduction in the illegitimate and maintenance of fear in the legitimate conditions. Additionally, the effect of legitimacy on group efficacy was mediated by threat appraisals. The impact of perceived legitimacy of asymmetric power relations and the salience of outgroup stereotypes on emotional and behavioral reactions to powerlessness is discussed

Abstract The study of dehumanization began just over a decade. Since then many studies have shown how people perceive outgroup members as less human than ingroup members. In the present work, we firstly analyze how people define humanity is and how we consequently understand what dehumanization is. Secondly, we will present the two main forms of dehumanization: Animalistic (perceiving others as if they were animals) and mechanistic (perceiving others as robots and machines). Thirdly, the main measures of dehumanization as well as the main approaches in the area are presented: the attribute- and the metaphor-based dehumanization. Finally, we examine the main consequences of dehumanization and its impact on intergroup and interpersonal relationships.

- Abstract
Dijksterhuis and van Knippenberg (1998) reported that participants primed with a category associated with intelligence (“professor”) subsequently performed 13% better on a trivia test than participants primed with a category associated with a lack of intelligence (“soccer hooligans”). In two unpublished replications of this study designed to verify the appropriate testing procedures, Dijksterhuis, van Knippenberg, and Holland observed a smaller difference between conditions (2%–3%) as well as a gender difference: Men showed the effect (9.3% and 7.6%), but women did not (0.3% and −0.3%). The procedure used in those replications served as the basis for this multilab Registered Replication Report. A total of 40 laboratories collected data for this project, and 23 of these laboratories met all inclusion criteria. Here we report the meta-analytic results for those 23 direct replications (total N = 4,493), which tested whether performance on a 30-item general-knowledge trivia task differed between these two priming conditions (results of supplementary analyses of the data from all 40 labs, N = 6,454, are also reported). We observed no overall difference in trivia performance between participants primed with the “professor” category and those primed with the “hooligan” category (0.14%) and no moderation by gender.

The structural model of deservingness (Feather, 1996) posits that entitlement and deservingness are two different predictors of perceptions of legitimacy. Specifically, entitlement refers to the accomplishment of established social rules, whereas deservingness relates to the outcomes that individuals earn as products of their actions. Although both factors are good predictors of perceived legitimacy, previous works show different conclusions about their relevance. The aim of this paper is to further examine the influence of entitlement and deservingness on legitimacy perceptions and on the consequences expected for a candidate who has been elected for a power position. Results showed that whereas a high-entitlement candidate is perceived as more legitimate, a high-deservingness candidate is expected to perform better. Besides, results hint that the level of personal implication with the candidate election plays also a relevant role in combination with entitlement and deservingness, when individuals evaluate the expectedconsequences of the decision.

Income inequality undermines societies: The more inequality, the more health problems, social tensions, and the lower social mobility, trust, life expectancy. Given people’s tendency to legitimate existing social arrangements, the stereotype content model (SCM) argues that ambivalence―perceiving many groups as either warm or competent, but not both―may help maintain socio-economic disparities. The association between stereo- type ambivalence and income inequality in 37 cross-national samples from Europe, the Americas, Oceania, Asia, and Africa investigates how groups’ overall warmth-compe- tence, status-competence, and competition-warmth correlations vary across societies, and whether these variations associate with income inequality (Gini index). More unequal societies report more ambivalent stereotypes, whereas more equal ones dislike competitive groups and do not necessarily respect them as competent. Unequal societies may need ambivalence for system stability: Income inequality compensates groups with partially positive social images. Akinetic mutism is considered as a disturbance of a person´s motivational state, therefore the patient is unable to initiate verbal or motor responses, although they continue to maintain sensorimotor and vigi-lant functions. The lesion can be vascular or it can be caused by infections, cerebral degeneration and toxicity. Lesions can influence the functions of two cerebral circuits: the Frontal medial cortex affecting to cingulated cortex, or it can damage the thalamic and mesencephalic regions related to the ascending reticular activating system. It is difficult to diagnose Akinetic Mutism since it can be confused with some types of aphasia and altered states of consciousness, which require different interventions. In order to complete a clinical protocol we recommend a brief neuropsychological evaluation of functions such as attention, praxis and language, all of which could be affected by the syndromes previously named. We expound a case of akinetic mutism evaluated with this protocol in order to show its specificity distinguishing akinetic mustism from other syndromes.

The main goal of this research is to analyze the impact of power in the causal attribution. More especifically, we analyze the attributions made by the observer about people's success and failure who differ in the power that they have in their workplace. Results show that both the success and failure obtained by people with high power are explained by controlable, internal attributions, specifically, referring to the effort made by the powerful person. However, the explanation of the outcomes achieved by people with low power show a different pattern. While the success is attributed to the subordinate's effort, the failure is attributed to his or her low skill. The results were analyzed in relation to previous findings and their involvement in maintaining the status quo.

- Abstract
Social inequality has been widespread throughout human history. Nevertheless, some members of disadvantaged groups have challenged the prevailing social order with the aim of improving their group position in the social hierarchy. However, not every individual is willing to take part in this struggle. The question is, what factors lead to the fight against social inequality? In this study, we focus on the role of the perception of legitimacy and group identification in this process, as well as on collective action as one of the most direct strategies to fight inequality., La desigualdad social ha estado presente a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad, pero en ocasiones algunos miembros de los grupos desaventajados han desafiado el orden social establecido con el objetivo de obtener una posición mejor para el grupo en la jerarquía social.

- Abstract
Income inequality undermines societies: The more inequality, the more health problems, social tensions, and the lower social mobility, trust, life expectancy. Given people's tendency to legitimate existing social arrangements, the stereotype content model (SCM) argues that ambivalence―perceiving many groups as either warm or competent, but not both―may help maintain socio-economic disparities. The association between stereotype ambivalence and income inequality in 37 cross-national samples from Europe, the Americas, Oceania, Asia, and Africa investigates how groups' overall warmth-competence, status-competence, and competition-warmth correlations vary across societies, and whether these variations associate with income inequality (Gini index). More unequal societies report more ambivalent stereotypes, whereas more equal ones dislike competitive groups and do not necessarily respect them as competent. Unequal societies may need ambivalence for system stability: Income inequality compensates groups with partially positive social images.
