This study was carried out to test the effect of vacuum and open-air storage on seed germination, oil content, and sugar contents of four pepper cultivars. Seeds were stored at 13°C with 35% relative humidity over 48 months in vacuum packets or in perforated cheese cloth in a storage room. Seed samples were examined at 12, 24, 36 and 48 months. In the literature, the drying mechanism were generally analyzed in terms of effective diffusivity through the pseudo first order diffusion model. This process was revisited through the modified Peleg model, assuming the drying as a moisture desorption versus drying time. The leaves of Corymbia citriodora acclimatized in the Congo Brazzaville “Plateau des Cataractes” were dried in open air and under shade thanks to a domestic scale of essential oil production. One obtains following model parameters: kinetic constant k1: 0.8555 - 2.1355 d.(g/g)-1, extraction capacity constant K2: 1.5255 - 1.8733 (g/g)-1; end equilibrium moisture X∞ = 0.53 - 0.66 g/g. and first order drying kinetic constant k = K2/k1: 1.71 - 1.78 d-1. Pseudo first order diffusion model fits experimental data with k = 0.368 - 0.587 d-1 and t1/2 = 1,18 - 1,88 d.. These results needed for the optimization of proccess and sizing equipments came from a fast graphic data processing, with low computer inputs.

A new and practical protocol for the synthesis of medicinally privileged azolo[1,3,5]triazines by simply heating under air has been presented. The in situ generated N-azolo amidines from commercially available aromatic aldehydes and 3-aminoazoles with ammonium iodide undergo the second diamination to accomplish the [3 + 1 + 1 + 1] heteroannulation reaction. This convenient process is appreciated by high efficiency, broad substrate scope, gram-scale synthesis, and operational simplicity under reagent-free conditions.

The Kayutangan Corridor is one of the areas in Malang that holds many historical values, namely as a shopping center in the Dutch colonial era. However, the glory and history of kayutangan began to fade with the times. This research's general objective is to provide a design proposal for the Kayutangan corridor that can present historical stories of the buildings along the corridor, such as an open-air museum, with the building as its object. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research with a signage theory approach. The final result of this study is the proposed signage and pedestrian design in the Kayutangan corridor.

Aims: Flies are known to spread antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB), especially from farms to cities; but they may also play a role in the intra-urban dispersion of ARB, in conjunction with poor sanitary conditions. Here, we characterized gram-negative ARB isolated from urban flies (Lucilia and Sarcophaga spp.), and the co-relation with the periodic installation of two open-air markets in Mexico City. Methodology: Forty-two flies were individually captured, and 116 gram-negatives (68 of them Escherichia coli) were isolated from them. Resistance prevalence, and the presence of class 1 integrons was assessed. Results: The isolates were resistant to an average of 2.26 antibiotics (2.6 for E. coli), and 33% of E. coli isolates carried the intI1 gene. Thirteen percent of E. coli isolates produced extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL), all of them CTX-M, alone or, mostly, along TEM enzymes. Comparing data from market-free days vs. days when open-air markets were installed, the average number of resistance phenotypes per E. coli isolate went from 2.14 to 3.09; the number of resistance phenotypes per fly from 4.62 to 8.88; the average number of resistances per isolate per fly from 1.25 to 2.43; and the ESBL-producing carriage rate per fly from 0.08 to 0.38, respectively (P

Gold(III)-catalyzed activation of alkynes has been applied for the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted furans from substituted 5-methoxy-hex-3-yn-2-ols. Mechanistically, the reaction proceeds via an allenyl carbocation intermediate followed by 5-endo-dig cyclization. The high-yielding, open-air, room temperature reaction conditions applied to synthesize a series of alkyl, aryl, and hetero aryl-substituted furans provide uniqueness to the strategy.

Sufficient dissolved oxygen is required for helpful water quality. Natural stream cleansing procedures need enough oxygen levels for the purpose of supply for aerobic life systems. The happening of oxygen and water mixing together is titled aeration. There are several techniques to add air or oxygen to water, for instance open air reservoirs, submergible pumps, domestic aeration systems, compressor systems and air pump systems. However, the Venturi system, relied on the easiness of Ejectors, gives a easy, preservation free aeration solution. venturi system permits air to be injected inside running water from air inlet orifices and so rises oxygen levels in the water. The main objective of this research is to evaluate effect of geometric characteristics on the aeration efficiency in the venturi system. To achieve this goal, the venturi is designed and carried out, from transparent polycarbonate. Experiments were conducted under clear-water conditions at different discharges (Qwater): 44.16, 58.88, 73.59 and 88.31 lit/min which correspond to four inlet velocities (v): 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 m/s. The study involved selecting three different throat lengths (Lt): 12, 24 and 36 mm, and three different air inlets orifices diameters (ds): 3, 5 and 8 mm. Five different outlets angles have been used (β): 7o, 10o, 15o, 21o, and 25o with inlet angle (α) stabilization at 7o. The inlet and the outlet diameter (D) and throat diameter (dt) in all the experiments were constants and equals to 25 and 10 mm, respectively. The results of the study demonstrated that the geometric characteristics of the venturi system affects the aeration efficiency. Objectives To evaluate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on myopia progression (MP) in school age children. Methods A total of 115 children aged 8–17 years with a diagnosis of myopia who had been followed-up for at least 3 years, were included in this study with a retrospective and single-center design. The subjects’ age, the history of myopia in the family, the time spent in front of a screen, the digital devices used during home education (computer, tablet, smartphone, television), the time spent in open air (hours/day), the refractive error (RE) (spherical equivalent value) detected before the home education period and the changes in the myopia over the years, were recorded. Results The mean age was 12.06(± 2.29) years. Only the right eyes were included. The glasses use duration was 3.57(± 0.74) years. The annual MP amount 0.49(± 0.26), 0.41(± 0.36) and 0.54(± 0.43) diopters (D) for the 2017, 2018, and 2019 years before home education, respectively, (p > 0,05), and 0.71(± 0.46) D in 2020, during home education. Background: The microwave technique of drying dental stone to achieve improved hardness and strength has been suggested in recent years. However, its effect on the wear properties of dental stone has not been thoroughly examined. Aim: The present study was conducted in vitro to determine the abrasion resistance of three commercially available Type IV dental stones using three different drying techniques. Materials and Methods: A total of 180 samples were prepared from 3 Type IV dental stones; namely Eliterock, Zhermack (Italy), Kalrock, Kalabhai industries (India), and Gyprock (Rajkot, India). Samples were subjected to drying in open air for 2 h, hot air oven at a temp of 230°C for 1 h and microwave oven for 5 min at 900Watts. Abrasion resistance was determined using a customized metallic abrasion resistance tester. Results: Microwave oven drying produced samples with increased abrasion resistance values when compared to samples dried in hot air oven and air-dried specimens. Eliterock showed significantly higher mean abrasion resistance values followed by Kalrock and Gyprock. Conclusion: Drying type IV dental stone in a microwave oven at 900W for 5 min increased the abrasion resistance within short time.

Caffeine is a well-known central nervous system stimulant, which can cause anxiety, insomnia and nervousness. Domestic wastes of caffeinated drinks, beverages and chocolates are the major sources for entry of caffeine in the environmental system. Caffeine has been widely detected in natural water resources. The current study describes a method for efficient removal of caffeine from aqueous solution by a laboratory scale dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) in open air. Caffeine concentrations in various sample solutions were monitored by high-performance liquid chromatography, and the degradation products were identified by directly injecting the sample to mass spectrometer. The consequences of varied parameters such as input power, initial concentration and initial pH of the solution on the degradation of caffeine were investigated. Removal efficiency of caffeine from aqueous solution was 72.6% and 96.6% for the initial concentrations of 100 and 1 µg/mL, respectively, at initial pH 7 after 4 min treatment in DBD plasma system with 60 W input powers. Caffeine removal efficiency was less in acidic solutions (initial pH 4), and insignificant degradation was observed in alkaline solutions (initial pH 10). Furthermore, the degradation of caffeine was also enhanced by increasing the input power in DBD system. The DBD system used in this study has been considered to be fast, effective and economical. It was operated at atmospheric condition in open air without using catalyst, expensive gases or organic solvents, and significant degradation of caffeine was achieved in a short (4 min) treatment time.

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has revived the debate about the routes of virus transmission and their likelihoods. It is of utmost importance to assess the risks of contamination of susceptible people by infectious individuals and to evaluate the level of SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses transmission in the community. Most countries have imposed non-pharmaceutical measures to contain SARS-CoV-2 transmission, including physical distancing and mask wearing. Here we evaluated the spreading of viruses in open air using harmless Escherichia coli bacteriophages as a surrogate. Phages were sprayed towards Petri dishes seeded with bacteria at different lengths and angles. Our results showed that the transmission rate decreased exponentially with distance. Cattle are animals that stay in the herd for a large period of the day in the open air pasture. This daily routine leaves them exposed and susceptible to infectious diseases. One of them is the Bovine Parasitic Sadness which is considered one of the greatest cattle health problems due its high rate of mortality and morbidity. In this work preliminary results are presented from calf inoculated with anaplasmosis. Blood samples were collected and analyzed through Fourier Transform Near Infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIR). The animal was monitored for 60 days until its recovery. This exploratory work shows the potentiality of the FT-NIR in the detection, follow-up and recovery of the anaplasmosis. The possibility of prevention of this disease in the herd via a fast optical analysis may bring a great breakthrough in disease control in dairy and beef cattle.

Palace and garden complexes located at suburbs of Leningrad (Leningrad Oblast, the USSR) rapidly reconstructed after ruinous German occupation during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 became popular places for open air celebrations among Soviet citizens. The author outlines historic specifics of open air celebrations considered as a form of organization of leisure time, topics and content of cultural programs, analyses an evolution of forms of museum communication with visitors in early post-war time drawing on the example of Pavlovsk of the 1950s. The article gives the author's view on a role of integration historical and cultural resources (including monuments of architecture and decorative art) into the context of solution of personal growth, educational, recreational tasks of Soviet social pedagogics, measures aimed at state support to domestic tourism sector.

Province, which is located in the south-eastern corner of Poland. At the beginning of the 1970s, as the result of an initiative drawing attention to the need for documentation of the rapidly disappearing traditional Rzeszowiacy vernacular wooden architecture (and that of the neighboring ethnographic group, the Lasowiacy), the Folk Culture Open-Air Museum in Kolbuszowa was created. This paper presents a short overview of the open-air museum’s establishment and describes in detail its role in the study and protection of the wooden architectural heritage of the Rzeszowiacy ethnographic group, based on the museum’s research, carried out over fifty years, and its collection of buildings.

The article deals with estimation on project level the possibilities of creating several outdoor classrooms for the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The aim of the work was to summarize the materials of photo and video recording of mass media, initiatives of educational institutions in relation to organization of outdoor training, analyze phytotherapeutic properties of plants for the development of functional spaces in the educational complexes of Kyiv National University to reduce anticipated pandemic risks. Given the natural conditions of Ukraine, which allow for outdoor classes for about one-third of the time in semesters, the organization of the educational process in the open air is promising. Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv has the opportunity to create a number of classrooms in open spaces. For creating "green" auditoriums there were proposed to use spaces in front of the western facade of the Red Building of the Taras Shevchenko National University and the roofs of the ESC "Institute of Biology and Medicine". The projects comply with the quarantine requirement for social distancing and government recommendations. Each outdoor educational space according to the project is equipped with elbow awnings and removable trellises. Phytotherapeutic effect within the green auditoriums can be provided with plants-repellents, which were commend to use in order to create color fulspots on the lawns in front of the western facade of the Red Building, the design of the stemcircle sand decorating the barebushesat the bottom part. For land scaping of a site with a firm covering (classroom on roofs) use of modular container culture with participation of plants – repellents is being offered.

This article focuses on how the demand for social and political meanings, generated by nation-building processes and competence between nationalisms in Central Europe, has determined the protection and heritagisation of vernacular architecture. The problem has been analysed using the example of the wooden churches in Upper Silesia—the region contested by Germany and Poland. These monuments gained unprecedented importance as they were believed to testify to ancient architectural traditions and were used to prove the Germanic or Slavic roots of regional culture. The article reveals the evolution of churches’ meanings and the ways they have affected the monument protection and functioning of open-air museums.

The paper provides an overview of the domestic experience of creating ethnographic museums in the open air. It traces stages and chronological periodization of the foundation of such museums in the world and studies historical conditions for the creation of open-air museums in Russia. The first experience of creating such a museum was demonstrated at the All-Russian Agricultural and Artisanal-Industrial Exhibition in Moscow in 1923. In the park-museum of Kolomenskoye village near Moscow, monuments of wooden architecture of the 17th–18th centuries were placed. For the first time, this paper comes up with a comprehensive classification of the open-air museums according to various grounds: the status of the museum complex (federal, regional, local), the specificity of the exposition, the architectural and urban planning principle of the organization; the principle of organizing the exposition and others. The study determined that most of the open-air museums are concentrated in the central part of Russia. The authors also explored potential for developing an open-air museum in the Tyumen region. The experience and examples of the functioning of museums allow for developing give “ground” for the development of ethnographic museums in all regions of the country. The creation of this complex is interesting not only from the point of view of implementing educational function for the population, but also in terms of developing the region's economy — the creation of the most diverse tourist product (landscape — architecture — ethnography).

The article is devoted to the analysis of archaeological materials obtained during the excavations of the Tara fortress / town Tara by Omsk archaeologists. In the more than four-meter cultural layer, seven building horizons have been preserved, in which all of its history has been contained. The peculiarities of the cultural layer contributed to the unique preservation of large objects (dwellings, outbuildings, defensive structures, pavements), as well as cultural and household items made of leather (shoes, belts, covers), wood (plates and cups, tues, whorls, shovels). Perfectly preserved foundations of churches and lower crowns (up to the ninth) of fortress and prison towers, powder magazines, lower crowns of huts with furniture and stoves make it possible not only to study data on material culture not reflected in written materials, but to raise the question of creating museum complexes «under open air», combining them with full-fledged reconstruction of these buildings. The temples of the 18th — 19th centuries, of which only one has survived, and are still known from excavations of foundations, merchant mansions and residential buildings of the late 19th century complement archaeological materials and allow studying the culture of the Tara population for four centuries. From 1981 to 2009, Maria Lai created a series of site-specific outdoor artworks made of different materials (above all cement, then painted with acrylic colour) located in her hometown Ulassai (Sardinia), which became an open-air museum. This paper focuses on a project regarding each artwork, with the creation of a documentation record on their history and conservation issues. Over the years, retouching and repainting interventions were realized by the artist and local workers without any conservator-restorer being involved in the process. The paper also aims to provide a description of these interventions with a focus on three case-studies, exploring the challenges related to maintenance, particularly the ones involving retouching and repainting.

The article covers the history of landscape development – one of the most emotional genres of fine arts, which has a special impact on the human personality. The object of the artist's image is architecture and its natural surroundings on the plains, in the mountains and at sea. The practice of painting outdoors (open air) has long been a mandatory component of the training of artists-teachers. At the same time, the painting of plants (flowers, trees), clouds, huts and the landscape in general is provided by the program of fine arts of primary school.

In recent times, retail buildings in tropical areas have started to evolve from fully enclosed air-conditioned designs towards designs featuring open-air naturally ventilated malls. This paper discusses influential factors that can be used to help achieve thermal comfort conditions in the semi-outdoor spaces of open-air malls within the Bangkok Metropolitan Area in Thailand. The researchers surveyed 23 buildings and categorised them into three groups according to their configurations. Six representative projects were selected and assessed using a computational fluid dynamics program. The results revealed that the percentages of thermal comfort hours varied from 34.7% to 80.8% of the annual occupation time and were highly dependent on the design decisions taken for individual projects. The study found that among five important design factors, which are position of openings in accordance to the prevailing wind, distribution of openings, window-to-wall ratio, building shape, and openings that encourage cross-ventilation, the first factor was the most influential. Buildings that have their position of openings in good accordance to the prevailing winds can achieve the number of hours 2.0 times greater than those that do not.

In Ukraine, there is no holistic perception of historical and cultural environments of monumental ensembles and complexes as an object of protection and use today. Their preservation will be effective only when the understanding of the object of protection is extended to the boundaries of the cultural landscape, including all its valuable elements. The best way to implement this concept is to include cultural landscapes in the open-air museum exhibition as its integral, active, and living element.

Although respective research has proliferated, little attention has been given to the processual nature of festivals. By drawing upon the concept of host event zones, we examine how different spectators perceive the development of the heavy metal festival Wacken Open Air (WOA) with respect to the dynamics between the festival as a temporary place in which visitors enjoy spectacle and ritual, a commercial site and the everyday living space of local inhabitants. WOA has grown in 30 years from an initiative by a few friends for devoted metal fans into an internationally renowned music mega-event. WOA represents a consumption mediated 'peaceful utopia' where festivalgoers find social meaningfulness in neo-tribes. However, the accelerating mainstream appeal of Wacken Open Air for a non-metal fan audience, which significantly spurt by the media, challenges both regular attendees' experience of this idealized space and the relationship between the host community and the festival.

In this work, an innovative non-destructive monitoring methodology based on the analysis over time of open-air rock art sites is presented. This approach is based on the combination of in situ spectroscopic and chemometric studies to diagnose and monitor the state of conservation of rock art sites. Data acquired over a period of time by non-invasive analytical techniques such as portable Raman spectrometry (RS) and handheld energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (HH-EDXRF) spectrometry are compared to detect physicochemical changes that could affect the rock painting integrity. To demonstrate the applicability of the proposed procedure, three analysis campaigns (between 2013 and 2016) were carried out, analyzing Levantine rock pictographs preserved in the rock shelter of Solana de las Covachas VI (Albacete, Spain; see Electronic Supplementary Material (ESM) Fig. S1). The analyzed areas showed different types of active weathering processes such as gypsum and calcium oxalate formation, giving rise to conservation issues such as painting fading, surface loss, microbial colonizations, and formation of crusts. Results evidence that the proposed methodology can be very useful to monitor chemical changes in the surface of the walls where the rock art is located, thus obtaining crucial information for its preservation and management.

This paper presents the results of research on the history of the protection of mills as objects of cultural heritage on Polish lands. First, the spatial distribution of over 20,000 mills at the beginning of the previous century is characterized, then the main actions undertaken for their protection in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries are discussed. Merely 3.4% of mills that worked in the past are now protected as monuments and recorded in the national register. Most of them remain in their original locations (in situ), and another 71 windmills and 22 watermills have been relocated to open-air museums. These specific institutions face a particularly important task involving the necessity to retain the original functionality of the mills.

The objective of this study is to investigate the factors that control event runoff characteristics at the small catchment scale. The study area is the Hydrological Open Air Laboratory, Lower Austria. Event runoff coefficient (Rc), recession time constant (Tc) and peak discharge (Qp) are estimated from hourly discharge and precipitation data for 298 events in the period 2013–2015. The results show that the Rc and their variability tend to be largest for the tile drainages (mean Rc = 0.09) and the main outlet (mean Rc = 0.08) showing larger Rc in January/February and smaller Rc in July/August. Tc does not vary much between the systems and tends to be largest at the main outlet (mean Tc = 6.5 h) and smallest for the tile drainages (mean Tc = 4.5 h). Groundwater levels explain the temporal variability of Rc and Tc more than soil moisture or precipitation, suggesting a role of shallow flow paths.

This also highlights dearth of research capacity forestimation of virus content from the open air samples and the need tostrengthen it through potential/ proposed technologies.

Stones of historical monuments exposed to the open air deteriorate over the course of time depending on physical, chemical, and biological factors acting in co-association. Among the biological factors, microorganisms play a key role in the deterioration process of stones. Detecting the level of microbial activity on stones is an essential step in diagnostic and monitoring studies of stone biodeterioration, and aids in controlling the performance of treatments applied to the stones. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a practical and rapid method for the determination of microbial activity on historical stones and use this method on the Mount Nemrut monuments (MNMs) (Adiyaman, Turkey). For that purpose, the fluorescein diacetate (FDA) hydrolysis method, frequently employed for soil environments, was adapted for the estimation and assessment of total microbial activity to understand whether microorganisms posed a potential risk for the biodeterioration of the limestones and sandstones of the MNMs. The traditional plate count method was also applied simultaneously to the same stone samples to compare and assist in the interpretation of the results of the FDA hydrolysis method, which relies on the quantitative determination of bacterial and fungal colonies in nutrient agar and malt extract agar medium, respectively. The results of the FDA hydrolysis and plate count methods showed consistency. The total microbial activity determined by the FDA hydrolysis method was low for both types of stone samples. In addition, the plate count method showed low bacterial and fungal counts on all of the samples. This revealed that microbial activity did not play an important role in the stone deterioration process on the MNMs, although different lichen species were frequently observed on both the sandstones and the limestones. Hence, further investigation must be undertaken for determination of their long-term behavior and effects on the stones of the MNMs. On the other hand, the results of the FDA hydrolysis and plate count methods showed correlation. Lower bacterial counts were observed when lower enzymatic activity was observed in the stone samples, and likewise, higher bacterial counts were observed when higher enzymatic activity was observed. Consequently, the application of the FDA hydrolysis method was determined to be reliable for the estimation of total microbial activity on historical stones. The method had obvious advantages in terms of its rapid measurement rate and sensitivity, even on small samples.

In a simple time of flight experiment, the speed of sound is observed to travel about 5% slower inside a corrugated irrigation pipe as compared with measurements conducted in open air. Although some theoretical understanding for this retardation is provided, the focus of this paper concerns how this finding might be incorporated into an undergraduate lab activity that challenges student understanding of error analysis and its significance. We propose an inquiry-based format, recently championed by others, wherein students are challenged to decide how to resolve their observation of a slower speed in a second round of investigations.

Otomycosis is an inflammatory process in the ear canal caused by a fungal infection. The activity of fishermen on the high seas at night or during the day is often at risk of contracting fungal diseases, because their workplaces are in the open air and in wet and humid areas favored by fungi. Work as a fisherman also makes them often exposed to direct sunlight so that the body's temperature rises, the body will produce sweat and cause the ear wax to be disturbed. Semi-synthetic media such as PDAs have sufficient carbohydrate content so that they are good for fungal growth. This media is pretty much needed in fungal breeding both in the laboratory and in agriculture. But the price of this media is quite expensive besides that not all chemical shops provide it, while the needs of PDA media are increasing so that another alternative is needed to replace the fungal culture media. This research is instrumental with a cross sectional approach and aims to find out the level of significance of the differences in the growth of Candida albicans against alternative media for agar dextrose agar and semi-synthetic Potato Dextrose agar (PDA). The sampling technique was non-random with a purposive sampling design of 46 people. The sample was then isolated on a semi-synthetic PDA media and alternative media to see differences in the growth of Candida albicans. Based on the research that has been carried out, it is concluded that there are 38 samples of respondents detected positively Candida albicans on semi-synthetic media (PDA) and alternative media, and based on the results of data processing obtained p value 0,000

Waste tires are internationally recognized as hazardous waste. Many waste tires storing in the open air for a long time will not only waste the land resources but also pollute the environment after the incineration. Meanwhile, the cumulative accumulation of fly ash in China has also been one of the largest sources of solid waste in coal mines. Under the action of high winds, the accumulated fly ash forms flying dust, which pollutes the environment and endangers human health. Herein, a new type of grouting material for floor reinforcement was developed based on solid waste products using the waste tire rubber particles and fly ash. Using this new material, disaster accidents such as flooding and casualties caused by the inrush of the floor-confined water due to floor fractures, activation, and expansion in the mining process can be greatly reduced, thereby ensuring the safety of coal mine production. The grout body was prepared using a large amount of fly ash, waste tire rubber particles and clay, and mixing additives. The ratio optimization test, uniaxial compressive strength test, permeability characteristic test, stability test, and microanalysis of mine water environment were performed. From the test results, the macrophysical and chemical properties including optimal mix ratio, compressive strength, permeability coefficient, and stability of mine water environment were obtained. The microstructural properties of the grouts were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy microanalysis methods. Considering the situation of the coal floor and attempting to use as many solid waste products as possible, the optimized proportion that can meet the requirements of low cost, high bonds, and dense filling is as follows: 20% of rubber particles, 65% of fly ash, 15% of clay, and 1% of nanosilica. Furthermore, this study can provide scientific reference for large-scale floor grouting reinforcement and large-scale utilization of solid waste products.

High dairy performance of adult animals is directly dependent on the conditions of calves growing and feeding during the preweaning period. Since cattle has a low so-called “critical temperature”, it is advisable to use this property of the body when rearing calves in the open air year-round in individual houses. It is known that among the entire complex of factors affecting the intensive growth of calves, the quality of food and the method of calves feeding in the first periods of postembryonic development of young animals from birth to 12 months deserve the most attention. In order to reduce consumption of whole milk for feeding calves and accelerate development of digestive tract in calves in early life period with high body weight gains, in practice specialists try to achieve it by introducing plant foods into diets for calves. However, plant feeds, even high-energy ones (cereals and legumes), containing large amount of protein, carbohydrates, starch, etc., are digested by calves very slowly and in small quantities. It is shown that to eliminate these drawbacks it is advisable to extrude all the plant feeds. The paper describes in detail the technology and equipment for preparing easily digestible feeds based on legumes for calves feeding during preweaning period, allowing to accelerate the development of digestive tract in the early life period of calves with high body weight gains, reduce consumption of whole milk or its replacers and energy costs for its production. Studies on the effect of feeding young cattle with feed concentrate during preweaning period showed increase in performance by 6.6 % and a decrease in feed costs by 5.73 %.

In spite of the popularity of open-air waste dumping in Nigeria, it remains a relatively less effective waste management option across the globe because of its associated environmental impacts which includes the release of green house gases (GHGs), persistent organic pollutants (POPs), and metal micro-pollutants amongst others. This study aims to assess the potential environmental risks associated to metals released and vertically delineated across the soil profile within surroundings of dumpsite. Heavy metals in soil samples were acid-digested using the aqua-regia mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acid, followed by instrumentation analysis using the GBC 908 PBMT model atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Contaminated sites showed metal concentrations ranging from 1.493 to 109.460 mg/kg, 0.133 to 4.237 mg/kg, and 5.200 to 25.367 mg/kg for lead, cadmium and chromium respectively, with location 1 land area showing the most contamination. Only soil chromium was observed within regulatory stipulations in all cases. There was significant variation (p < 0.05) between the different sample locations, thereby indicating variations in composition of dumped wastes. Lead and cadmium showed the strongest positive correlation (r = 0.855, p < 0.01) and the application of some heavy metal pollution indicators revealed relatively higher metal loads and degree of contamination, as well as depicting potential ecological risk for soils of location 1. The significant heavy metal contamination of soils in the Tombia-Amassoma waste dumpsite requires that the local environmental sanitation and regulatory authorities take necessary remedial action to forestall the escalation of public health concerns that may emanate from this open-air dump.

Characteristics of wild peas and their habitats at the periphery of the range are interesting with respect to their potential importance for pre-breeding programs aimed at selection for different environmental conditions. However, wild pea diversity in peripheral regions is insufficiently represented in the existing germplasm collections. In such regions, wild pea populations are rare, small in size and suffer from climatic change and land exploitation, hence their focused search is strongly desirable. A two-week-long expedition to Iran in May 2017 revealed two small populations of the wild pea (Pisum sativum subsp. elatius) in the Zagros Mts, in Aligudarz and Khorramabad Districts of Lorestan Province, Iran, at elevations of 1841 and 1971 m a.s.l., respectively. Their habitats are briefly described. Two pea accessions derived from them, CE9 and CE10, were characterised for some visible and molecular characters. These peas appeared to belong to the evolutionary lineage B, recognised by us earlier in P. sativum as opposed to the so-called lineage AC. They contain a unique non-conservative substitution in subtype 5 of histone H1 and turned to be most related to some wild pea accessions originating from southern and south-eastern Turkey and Golan Heights. Scarce information available on wild pea occurrence in Iran suggests their existence in the south-western principal slope of Zagros Mts and southern principal slopes of Elborz and Kopet Dagh Mts. It was found that wild peas representing the evolutionary lineage B produce poorly open and poorly coloured flowers (as reported by us earlier) only in the greenhouse conditions but normally pigmented and open flowers in the wild and mesh houses at open air in Israel. Some issues of pea taxonomy are discussed.

The construction of heritage is an ongoing process, with numerous voices involved in it. Physical remains of the past frequently—though not always—play a significant role as focal points that heritage narratives attach to. As resources, these remains can be used to draw both domestic and foreign tourism, providing economic benefit to states and providing a platform from which heritage narratives may be told. Such narratives can be economically, socially, and politically powerful. They have been previously examined through the authorized heritage discourse, wherein only certain ‘pasts’ are explored, or as heritage brands. In a world of change in society and in tourism, the authority of archaeologist/historian/scholar, governing bodies, tourism agencies, passionate ‘non-specialists’, and multiple publics over heritages is one of contestation. Each is a weaver of heritage. This article examines the creation of archaeological open-air museums (AOAMs) as renewable resources for tourism within a fragmenting market. It explores the authorities and threads of heritage that result in different capacities to actively address visitor perceptions of the ‘past’ and present they are touring. This paper concludes with viewing the use of an AOAM as a location of contestation, as any other heritage property can become, though one more malleable to the changing needs of heritage weavers due to its existence in conflict with understandings of linear time.

Arylated building blocks or heterocycles are key to myriad applications, including pharmaceutical drug discovery, materials sciences, and many more. Herein, we have reported a mild and efficient strategy for generation of aryl radicals by reacting appropriate aryl hydrazines with catalytic iodine in open air. The aryl radicals were quenched by diversely substituted 1,4-napthoquinones present in the reaction mixture to afford diversely substituted 2,3-napthoquinones in moderate to excellent yield. Control experiments provided insights into the putative reaction mechanism.

Özet: Van Kalesi'nin kuzeydoğu yamaçlarında, ova düzeyine yakın bir yükseltide Analıkız veya Hazine Kapısı olarak adlandırılan kaya anıtı yer almaktadır. Anıt ana kayaya işlenmiş bir platform ve gerisinde yine ana kayaya açılmış iki adet anıtsal nişten oluşur. Marr ve Orbeli'nin 1916 yılında gerçekleştirdikleri kazılardan bu yana Analıkız alanının işlevi, sitadelle ilişkisi, krallık açısından önemi, inşa evreleri ve mimari tasarımı hakkında ayrıntılı bir değerlendirme yapılmamıştır. Literatürde bu alan genel olarak Açık Hava Kutsal Alanı olarak tanımlanmıştır. Lehmann-Haup'tun 1898'lerde alanın kuzeyinde yer alan drenaj kanallarını kurban kanalı olarak tanımlaması açık hava kutsal alanı tanımını yerleştirmiş ve sonraki çalışmalara referans olmuştur. Bu makalede alanla ilgili literatür ve hikayeleri ve kazı sonuçları tekrar değerlendirilerek yeniden tanımlanmaya çalışılmıştır. Minua ile başlamış olması muhtemel inşa faaliyetlerinin I. Argişti ve II. Sarduri ile devam ettiği yönündeki tespitler, bu alanın yapım evreleri de göz önüne alınarak değerlendirilmiştir. Analıkız yapısının aslında açık hava kutsal alanı olmayabileceği, krallık için sadece başkente özel ünik bir anıtsal birim olabileceği ele alınmıştır. Söz konusu birimin kralların kroniklerinin yazılı olduğu stellerinin toplu olarak bulunduğu bir alan olabileceği ve bütün çevresel özellikleriyle beraber kapalı bir alan olabileceği arkeolojik ve filolojik kanıtlar üzerinden tartışılmıştır. Abstract: On the northeast sides of the Van Fortress, an elevation nearby, stands a rock monument on the plain named Analıkız or also called Hazine Kapısı. The monument consists of a platform engraved into the rock and two monumental niches. Yet ever since the excavations conducted by Marr and Orbeli in 1916, there have been no detailed examinations or evaluations of the functions of the field, the relationship to the citadel, its importance for the kingdom, the levels of construction or architectural design. In literature, this field is generally recognized as Open Air Sanctuary or the way Lehmann-Haupt defined in 1898. In this study, we attempted to reevaluate and redefine the literature, stories and excavation outcomes. The deductions suggesting construction activities initiating with Minua then continuing with Argishti I and Sarduri II have been made considering the construction levels of the field. The possibilities of Analıkız structure not being an open-air sanctuary but rather a monumental site for the kingdom, a field in which the steles with king’s chronicles carved onto them are gathered or a closed field with all of its surroundings have been discussed with the aid of archeological and philological proofs.
