We investigate third-order strongly nonlinear differential equations of the type (Φ(k(t)u″(t)))′=f(t,u(t),u′(t),u″(t)),a.e. on[0,T],\left(\Phi \left(k\left(t){u}^{^{\prime\prime} }\left(t)))^{\prime} =f\left(t,u\left(t),u^{\prime} \left(t),{u}^{^{\prime\prime} }\left(t)),\hspace{1em}\hspace{0.1em}\text{a.e. on}\hspace{0.1em}\hspace{0.33em}\left[0,T], where Φ\Phi is a strictly increasing homeomorphism, and the non-negative function kk may vanish on a set of measure zero. Using the upper and lower solution method, we prove existence results for some boundary value problems associated with the aforementioned equation. Moreover, we also consider second-order integro-differential equations like (Φ(k(t)v′(t)))′=ft,∫0tv(s)ds,v(t),v′(t),a.e. on[0,T],\left(\Phi \left(k\left(t)v^{\prime} \left(t)))^{\prime} =f\left(t,\underset{0}{\overset{t}{\int }}v\left(s){\rm{d}}s,v\left(t),v^{\prime} \left(t)\right),\hspace{1em}\hspace{0.1em}\text{a.e. on}\hspace{0.1em}\hspace{0.33em}\left[0,T], for which we provide existence results for various types of boundary conditions, including periodic, Sturm-Liouville, and Neumann-type conditions.

ABSTRACT Objective: To perform the cross-cultural adaptation of CALCULATE for Brazilian Portuguese. Method: A methodological study conducted from January to December 2021, divided into six stages: translation, synthesis, back-translation, expert committee with the application of the content validity index, pre-testing in 40 adult patients, and submission to the authors. The study took place in the intensive care units of a public tertiary teaching hospital in the interior of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The original CALCULATE has eight risk assessment items and is stratified with a score of 0-3 (high risk) and 4-8 (very high risk). Results: After expert evaluation, the final content validity was 0.9. They suggested words and phrases that should undergo changes regarding textual equivalences, as well as definitions of acronyms and terminologies. In the pre-test, the items were assessed as suitable for understanding; only one item required additional explanation for adequacy. Conclusion: The cross-cultural adaptation of CALCULATE for Brazilian Portuguese was successfully performed, revealing a good content validity index, confirming the relevance and appropriateness of its items. CALCULATE is suitable for use in intensive care units and research and teaching centers.

Abstract Background Improvement of psychosocial-spiritual well-being in patients with life-threatening or life-limiting illness is desirable. Resilience and mindfulness are considered to be helpful for enhancing psychosocial-spiritual well-being. Mindfulness-based interventions have been shown to promote resilience to stress and enhance well-being. However, in medical patients, evidence for the associations between mindfulness and resilience is lacking. We hypothesize patients with higher levels of psychosocial-spiritual well-being demonstrate greater resilience and mindfulness. Methods 200 patients (mean age = 50.2, SD = 15.5) with serious and or life-limiting illnesses were recruited from the NIH Clinical Center. Patients completed a demographic questionnaire, the NIH-HEALS measure of psychosocial-spiritual well-being, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10), and the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS). O artigo propõe uma explicação para as variações das taxas de homicídios no Brasil nas duas últimas décadas. A partir da comparação de experiências etnográficas vividas no universo faccional de quatro capitais (São Paulo, Porto Alegre, São Luís e Maceió), propomos duas estratégias analíticas: 1) a desagregação de séries quantitativas de taxas de homicídios por perfis de vítimas e 2) a construção de sinopses históricas dos conflitos faccionais locais. Demonstramos como as taxas de homicídio, em perfis sociodemográficos específicos, oscilam a partir das mudanças nos conflitos faccionais locais e puxam as variações das taxas agregadas.

This paper proposes an explanation for the variations in homicide rates in Brazil in the past two decades. Based on the comparison of ethnographic experiences lived in the criminal universe of four capital cities (São Paulo, Porto Alegre, São Luís and Maceió), we propose two analytical strategies: 1) the breakdown of quantitative homicide rate data by victim profile, and 2) the construction of historical synopses of conflicts between factions at the local level. We demonstrate how homicide rates, in specific socio-demographic profiles, oscillate based on changes in conflicts between factions at the local level conflicts, and influence variations in the aggregate rates.

Atletas, o público fisicamente ativo e portadores de doenças crônicas buscam cada vez mais por suplementos alimentares proteicos para aumento de massa muscular. Este estudo tem como objetivo verificar a densidade energética, carboidratos, proteí­nas, sádio e aminoácidos essenciais nos rótulos de produtos de whey protein disponí­veis no mercado brasileiro, qualitativa e quantitativamente. Trata-se de um estudo observacional descritivo. Os valores considerados adequados para cada aminoácido essencial avaliado foram baseados na Instrução Normativa nº 28, de 26 de julho de 2018. Foram analisados 75 rótulos de produtos de whey protein, tanto em lojas fí­sicas quanto virtuais, dos quais todos apresentavam descritos valores de macronutrientes nos rótulos. A partir dos dados coletados no estudo, foi possí­vel quantificar o total de fabricantes e, a partir dos rótulos, a avaliação dos produtos com valores dentro do esperado pela legislação. Os dados obtidos têm relevância para a população no ato da escolha do suplemento nutricional. Os resultados mostram que a comunicação nos rótulos não alcança a recomendação má­nima exigida pela Legislação, a qual è fundamental para análise da qualidade dos produtos disponí­veis, não somente pela população em geral que os consume, mas também pelos profissionais que os indicam.

Introduction: the classification systems with standardized languages are established in a set of structured knowledge, concepts founded in a logical and coherent way, based on their similarities. In this sense, identifying a profile with the populations can cooperate for a better definition and situational understanding for that unit and/or patients. Objectives: to perform cross-mapping between the nursing diagnoses of NANDA-I with the manual nursing records in the post-anesthetic recovery room; and, to propose interventions and outcomes, according to standardized language. Method: exploratory, descriptive and retrospective analysis of the nursing records of 187 patients hospitalized from June to July 2018, in the post-anesthetic recovery room of an oncology hospital. Cross-mapping was carried out in three stages: identification of diagnostic indicators; proposition of interventions and activities; and outcomes indicators. The data were analyzed and described in absolute and relative frequencies. Results: of the 13 NANDA-I domains, five were highlighted; were identified five risk diagnoses and 11 focused on the problem; 100% frequency was observed for the diagnoses of: Aspiration, infection and falling risk; Impaired transfer capacity; Impaired bed mobility; Impaired skin/tissue integrity and impaired comfort. Conclusions: from the 16 nursing diagnoses mapped, were selected 22 interventions and 58 activities; 23 results and 48 outcomes indicators.

This article aims at approaching some of the possible intersections between sociocultural representations of crime and violence in contemporary Brasil. In this sense, it is presented reflections about the spreading of collective fear, highlighting its relationship with socio-spatial segregation. Then, it analyzes the constitution of different sociabilities in segregated spaces, as an element that influences the representations that are collectively produced. Finally, it investigates some of the social responses to the generalization of fear, which are related to the production of discourses that are reactive to violence but are also often violent themselves. Thus, it intends to address aspects where contemporary criminal phenomena are interwoven in sociocultural manifestations – what is articulated by pointing to broader tendencies of the historical moment – represented by postmodernity – from the way they are expressed in the Brazilian context.

Objective: to describe the methodological process of cultural adaptation of the Glamorgan Scale to Brazilian Portuguese. Method: a methodological study of translation and cultural adaptation of the Glamorgan Scale, following the six stages: initial translation, synthesis of translations, back-translation, committee of experts, pre-test, and submission of the adapted version to the author for approval. The committee of experts was composed of five physicians and, during evaluation, a semantic, idiomatic, cultural and conceptual analysis was carried out. The agreement and representativeness of the items were assessed using the Content Validity Index. A minimum value of 80% agreement was considered. Results: all stages of the translation and cross-cultural adaptation process were satisfactory. In the evaluation made by the committee of experts, all items obtained an agreement greater than 80% in the first evaluation round. The pre-test stage allowed for a critical overview of the instrument, where few modifications were suggested by the participants. Conclusion: the Glamorgan Scale was translated and culturally adapted to Brazilian Portuguese. Future psychometric studies are necessary to validate the scale.

Entre as décadas de 80 e 90, a Cadeia Pública de Porto Alegre, principal prisão do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, foi palco de intensas turbulências: fugas, homicídios, motins e rebeliões. Em 1995, após uma rebelião, a gestão do presídio foi assumida pela polícia militar, que permanece até hoje. A partir dos anos 2000, as instabilidades começaram a arrefecer, tornando-se, atualmente, eventos pontuais e isolados, apesar da superlotação. Com base em entrevistas feitas com presos, policiais em ofício no presídio e atores do sistema de justiça ocupados com a execução penal, propõe-se analisar a passagem entre esses dois momentos, enfatizando-se a relação entre os coletivos de presos e a administração prisional. Argumenta-se que o equilíbrio precário alcançado nessa prisão decorre da acomodação dos antagonismos existentes entre presos e policiais que gerem o presídio, alcançado por meio de concessões mútuas e assegurando a concretização de pretensões de ambas as partes.

O objeto deste artigo é a criação da galeria das travestis no Presídio Central de Porto Alegre, ocorrida no ano de 2012. Tem-se como objetivo analisar o espaço conhecido como “3a do H” a partir do tema da estrutura e da ação na teoria social contemporânea, conferindo-se ênfase às contribuições de dois autores que buscaram sintetizar essas dimensões do social: Anthony Giddens e Pierre Bourdieu. Os dados utilizados advêm da participação em duas pesquisas – a primeira, envolvendo as experiências de travestis com o sistema de segurança pública do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, e a segunda ocupada com a compreensão das relações de poder internas ao PCPA. Argumenta-se que a galeria resultou das práticas sociais de variados atores – que, de modos distintos, repercutiram em um mesmo resultado. Ademais, embora a galeria tenha flexibilizado as regras estruturais referentes à transfobia no espaço carcerário, tal mudança coexistiu com sua reprodução no univ erso prisional.

OBJECTIVE: Continuous treatment with the anti-tumor necrosis factor alpha (anti-TNFalpha) antibody infliximab is efficacious in ankylosing spondylitis (AS), whereas treatment discontinuation results in disease relapse, with variable delay. This study was undertaken to compare the efficacy of continuous treatment with infliximab with that of a treatment regimen adapted to symptom recurrence. Methotrexate (MTX) in combination with infliximab was also tested. METHODS: Patients with active AS were randomly assigned at week 0 to receive infliximab every 6 weeks (continuous treatment) or upon symptom recurrence (on-demand treatment), following infusions at weeks 4, 6, and 10. Patients in the on-demand group were randomly assigned to receive either MTX in combination with infliximab or infliximab alone. Patients were monitored for 1 year. The primary end point was the proportion of patients who met the ASsessment in AS International Working Group criteria for 20% improvement (ASAS20) at week 58. RESULTS: Of 247 patients, 124 were assigned to receive infliximab every 6 weeks and 123 to receive on-demand treatment. Among the latter, 62 received MTX, and 61 received infliximab alone. A greater proportion of patients receiving infliximab every 6 weeks fulfilled ASAS20 response criteria at week 58 than did patients receiving on-demand treatment (75% versus 46%; P < 0.0001). Patients in the continuous treatment group received more infliximab infusions after week 10 than did those in the on-demand group (mean +/- SD 5.8 +/- 2.2 versus 3.5 +/- 2; P < 0.0001). Addition of MTX did not significantly affect the proportion of patients with an ASAS20 response at week 58, nor the number of infliximab infusions administered. CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that continuous treatment of AS with infliximab is more efficacious than on-demand treatment, and that the addition of MTX to infliximab provides no significant benefit. Em tal cenário, no qual a atomização do agente é intensa e o individualismo se expressa ao extremo, sugere-se que a busca pela identidade coletiva surge como alternativa à demanda porpertencimento, que pode equilibrar a perda de sentido pessoal advinda doperíodocontemporâneo. Diante disso, essa investigação é vinculada a umtipo de identidade em ascensão na sociedade em rede: a feminista, que é, no trabalho, analisada em sua manifestação virtual no Brasil. Para o desenvolvimento da presente reflexão, são trazidas duas táticas corriqueiras aos feminismos virtuais contemporâneos, a partir das quais procura-se indicar a construção de um eixo de similitudes que podem sustentar sua coesão via consciência coletiva, e enfatizar o tipo de repressão que a forma de solidariedade por eles articuladas suscita.

Este artigo visa a analisar a interação entre o espaço social e a manifestação das “facções criminais”. Entende-se essa forma contemporânea de vivenciar a criminalidade como fenômeno multifatorial que, por isso, demanda análises que articulem diferentes escalas e dimensões da pesquisa sócio-espacial. No trabalho, explora-se uma dessas possibilidades de investigação, aqui chamada de “eixo territorial” –o que abarca considerar desde os processos de segregação nos espaços urbanos, até a constituição, por grupos criminais, de territórios. Assim, são feitas algumas reflexões sobre os territórios, indicando-se sua articulação com os estudos de violência e criminalidade. Em seguida, analisa-se processos de segregação sócio-espacial tendo como referência alguns estados brasileiros, a fim de se situar o substrato sobre o qual costumam ser constituídos territórios por “facções”. Por fim, são trazidos alguns resultados de uma pesquisa mais ampla feita sobre os grupos criminais de Porto Alegre, pelos quais se busca expor questões que perpassam as territorialidades de “facções” no município.

Abstract We investigate the existence of heteroclinic solutions to a class of nonlinear differential equations ( a ( x ) Φ ( x ′ ( t ) ) ) ′ = f ( t , x ( t ) , x ′ ( t ) ) , a . e . t ∈ ℝ governed by a nonlinear differential operator Φ extending the classical p-Laplacian, with right-hand side f having the critical rate of decay -1 as |t| → +∞, that is f ( t , ⋅ , ⋅ ) ≈ 1 t . We prove general existence and non-existence results, as well as some simple criteria useful for right-hand side having the product structure f(t, x, x') = b(t, x)c(x, x'). ABSTRACT Objectives: to identify vulnerabilities of nurses who work in an intensive care unit. Methods: an integrative review was held from 2006 to 2019, with searches on the platforms/databases LILACS, BDENF, SciELO, MEDLINE, Scopus, CINAHL, and Web of Science. The theoretical framework of ergology, by Schwartz, was used and the guiding question “What are the main vulnerabilities of nurses who work in an intensive care unit”? Results: eleven articles were included. Five topics of vulnerabilities emerged: physical, emotional, communication process, care process, and organizational. We observed that the organizational vulnerability was kept as a common and intersection factor in developing the other four. Conclusions: vulnerabilities found have a relationship to the physical, emotional, communication, care process, and institution organization elements. The organization aspect intersected with the others, configuring itself as the core in this context.

ABSTRACT: Introduction: Brazil has registered more than 62,000 confirmed cases of leptospirosis between 2001 and 2017, with more than 2,000 cases confirmed in the State of Pará. Despite a large number of cases, no study has been conducted to trace the spatio-temporal profile of the disease. Methodology: Confirmed cases of leptospirosis from 2001 to 2017 from the state of Pará were the basis for this space-time study. The database of the Department of Informatics of the Ministry of Health was used to access data on leptospirosis. The spatio-temporal analysis was performed in the SaTScan software for the detection of clusters, and maps were generated in the QGIS software. Results: The municipalities of Belém and Santarém were among the ones with the highest incidence rates of leptospirosis for the whole study period. Increased number of cases in Soure, Inhangapi, São João da Ponta and Magalhães Barata, Ponta de Pedras, Breves, Bragança, Castanhal, and São Domingos do Capim were identified in different time periods. Santarém and Belém are the main foci of leptospirosis because they are the most urbanized and densely populated municipalities in the State. The cases found in smaller municipalities may be associated with periods of more frequent rainfall and circulation of Leptospira sp. in marsupials and cattle, in the northeastern part of the State. Conclusion: Further studies are needed to help identify the risk factors that contribute to the occurrence of leptospirosis in the State of Pará, particularly in areas with lower population density.
