The aurora arc is a separate auroral structure from the aurora oval, whose location and morphology are related to various solar-terrestrial circumstances. However, because of the low occurring frequency of aurora arc and the lack of the automatic identification technique, it can only be manually distinguished from a huge number of observed images, which is very inefficient. In order to improve the identification efficiency, we propose an identification algorithm based on YOLOX network and Convolutional Block Attention Module attention mechanism. Using the aurora images observed by Special Sensor Ultraviolet Spectrographic Imager carried by the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program F16-F19 satellites from 2013 to 2019, the automatic detection models for global and local areas were trained separately. The identification outputs will be integrated by calculating the intersection. According to the test results, the event identification precision is 86% and the position identification precision is 79%, both of which are greater than the results before integration. Therefore, the proposed method is not only able to identify whether the image contains the aurora arcs, but also accurately locate them, making it a highly effective tool for the advancement of future study.

The organism's normal physiological function is greatly impacted in a febrile environment, leading to the manifestation of pathological conditions including elevated body temperature, dehydration, gastric bleeding, and spermatogenic dysfunction. Numerous lines of evidence indicate that heat stress significantly impacts the brain's structure and function. Previous studies have demonstrated that both animals and humans experience cognitive impairment as a result of exposure to high temperatures. However, there is a lack of research on the effects of prolonged exposure to high-temperature environments on learning and memory function, as well as the underlying molecular regulatory mechanisms. In this study, we examined the impact of long-term heat stress exposure on spatial memory function in rats and conducted transcriptome sequencing analysis of rat hippocampal tissues to identify the crucial molecular targets affected by prolonged heat stress exposure. It was found that the long-term heat stress impaired rats' spatial memory function due to the pathological damages and apoptosis of hippocampal neurons at the CA3 region, which is accompanied with the decrease of growth hormone level in peripheral blood. RNA sequencing analysis revealed the signaling pathways related to positive regulation of external stimulation response and innate immune response were dramatically affected by heat stress. Among the verified differentially expressed genes, the knockdown of Arhgap36 in neuronal cell line HT22 significantly enhances the cell apoptosis, suggesting the impaired spatial memory induced by long-term heat stress may at least partially be mediated by the dysregulation of Arhgap36 in hippocampal neurons. The uncovered relationship between molecular changes in the hippocampus and behavioral alterations induced by long-term heat stress may offer valuable insights for the development of therapeutic targets and protective drugs to enhance memory function in heat-exposed individuals.

Abstract Background The relationship between adenomyomatous hyperplasia of the Vaterian system(AV) and cancer is unclear, some reports suggest that AV is often combined with mucosal glandular dysplasia, but it is not clear whether mucosal glandular dysplasia is a risk factor for carcinogenesis of AV. The aim of this study was to retrospective analysis of role of ductal glandular dysplasia as a risk factor in the development of carcinoma in AV. Methods A total of 328 cases who underwent surgery with a final pathological diagnosis of adenomyomatous hyperplasia (AH) in the Chinese PLA General Hospital in BeiJing, China, between January 2005 and December 2021 were retrospectively collected. There were Seventeen cases(5%) in which the lesions were located in the common bile duct as well as the ampulla of Vater, and their clinical (age, sex, etc.), imaging (cholelithiasis, etc.) and pathological data (mucosal glandular dysplasia, etc.) were collected. Clinical data and pathological features of AV with or without mucosal glandular dysplasia were analyzed. Results There were 17 out of 328 cases of AH occurring in the Vaterian system (5%). Three of seventeen AV cases were associated with carcinoma (18%). Of three cases, two (12%) with the tumor lesions in the mucosal glands adjacent to the AH (biliary tract cancer and ampullary cancer), and one (6%) with carcinoma developed from AH itself in the ampulla of Vater. All carcinomas had adenomyomatous hyperplasia with nearby mucosal glandular dysplasia (MGD). The percentage of BTC or AC was higher in patients with concurrent AH and MGD compared to AH patients without MGD. The results show tendency toward statistical significance (P = 0.082). This difference was more obvious among AH with severe dysplasia compared to adenomyomatous hyperplasia with mild-moderate dysplasia (P = 0.018). Conclusion This study is the first to find that AV is associated with biliary tract cancer and ampullary cancer. In AV, the mucosal glandular dysplasia may be a risk factor for the development of malignancy. The underlying mechanism for carcinogenesis of AV could be AH itself or its secretions stimulating mucosal glands hyperplasia, then mucosal glands dysplasia. AV may be a precancerous lesion.

Aim: C1q/TNF-related protein 6 (CTRP6) is a novel adipokine involved in insulin resistance. Thus, we aim to investigate the expression profile of CTRP6 in the plasma, adipose tissue and placenta of GDM patients and mice. Methods: Chinese Han pregnant women (GDM n = 9, control n = 10) with a scheduled caesarean section delivery were recruited. A number of high-fat diet (HFD) induced-pregnancy C57BL/6 mice were chosen as an animal model of GDM. Circulating levels of CTRP6 and adiponectin were examined by ELISA. CTRP6 expression in adipose tissue and placenta were detected by real-time qPCR and WB. Result: Plasma CTRP6 levels were decreased during the first and second trimesters in mice, as well as the second and third trimesters in patients, while they were increased at delivery in GDM patients and mice. Plasma CTRP6 levels were significantly correlated with WBC, systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and fasting blood glucose. Moreover, CTRP6 mRNA expression in the subcutaneous (sWAT) and omental white adipose tissue (oWAT), as well as in the placenta, was significantly higher in GDM human patients at cesarean delivery. Furthermore, the mRNA expression of Ctrp6 was increased in the sWAT and visceral WAT (vWAT), whilst decreased in the interscapular brown adipose tissue (iBAT), of GDM mice at cesarean delivery. Conclusion: Dynamically expressed CTRP6 may be served as a candidate target for treatment of GDM.

Abstract Aurora is an important manifestation of solar‐terrestrial physical processes. The aurora activities have rapid changes in spatial and intensity distribution during a substorm, especially the expansion phase. In this paper, a newly developed aurora evolution model is built based on the Convolutional Long Short‐Term Memory network, using the aurora images captured by the ultraviolet imager on the Polar satellite during the substorm expansion phases. Given the images after the onset, the model can predict the evolution of aurora with reasonable accuracy. The structure similarity, Peak Signal‐to‐Noise Ratio (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio), and Root Mean Square Error are used to evaluate the similarity between the predicted and observed images. The results demonstrate that the model performs well at different scales of evolution. Additionally, the model can estimate the evolution of both the aurora intensities and the movement of the poleward boundary. Furthermore, three cases are displayed to illustrate the behavior of the model and its limitation.

Abstract Background Ex vivo production of induced megakaryocytes (MKs) and platelets from stem cells is an alternative approach for supplying transfusible platelets. However, it is difficult to generate large numbers of MKs and platelets from hematopoietic stem cells and progenitor cells (HSPCs). Methods To optimize the differentiation efficiency of megakaryocytic cells from HSPCs, we first employed a platelet factor 4 (PF4)-promoter reporter and high-throughput screening strategy to screen for small molecules. We also investigated the effects and possible mechanisms of candidate small molecules on megakaryocytic differentiation of human HSPCs. Results The small molecule Ricolinostat remarkably promoted the expression of PF4-promoter reporter in the megakaryocytic cell line. Notably, Ricolinostat significantly enhanced the cell fate commitment of MK progenitors (MkPs) from cord blood HSPCs and promoted the proliferation of MkPs based on cell surface marker detection, colony-forming unit-MK assay, and quantitative real-time PCR analyses. MkPs generated from Ricolinostat-induced HSPCs differentiated into mature MKs and platelets. Mechanistically, we found that Ricolinostat enhanced MkP fate mainly by inhibiting the secretion of IL-8 and decreasing the expression of the IL-8 receptor CXCR2. Conclusion The addition of Ricolinostat to the culture medium promoted MkP differentiation from HSPCs and enhanced the proliferation of MkPs mainly by suppressing the IL-8/CXCR2 pathway. Our results can help the development of manufacturing protocols for the efficient generation of MKs and platelets from stem cells in vitro.

In remote-sensing image processing tasks, images with higher resolution always result in better performance on downstream tasks, such as scene classification and object segmentation. However, objects in remote-sensing images often have low resolution and complex textures due to the imaging environment. Therefore, effectively reconstructing high-resolution remote-sensing images remains challenging. To address this concern, we investigate embedding context information and object priors from remote-sensing images into current deep learning super-resolution models. Hence, this paper proposes a novel remote-sensing image super-resolution method called Context-Guided Constrained Network (CGC-Net). In CGC-Net, we first design a simple but effective method to generate inverse distance maps from the remote-sensing image segmentation maps as prior information. Combined with prior information, we propose a Global Context-Constrained Layer (GCCL) to extract high-quality features with global context constraints. Furthermore, we introduce a Guided Local Feature Enhancement Block (GLFE) to enhance the local texture context via a learnable guided filter. Additionally, we design a High-Frequency Consistency Loss (HFC Loss) to ensure gradient consistency between the reconstructed image (HR) and the original high-quality image (HQ). Unlike existing remote-sensing image super-resolution methods, the proposed CGC-Net achieves superior visual results and reports new state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on three popular remote-sensing image datasets, demonstrating its effectiveness in remote-sensing image super-resolution (RSI-SR) tasks.

Ulva prolifera, the main causative species of green tide, has drawn much attention. Spore reproduction was one of the main reproduction strategies that could be induced by changing environmental factors, but the mechanism of spore formation remains obscure. Here, we cultured U. prolifera (segments) under the optimal sporulation condition, and four states in total from vegetative to reproductive were defined. Additionally, the chlorophyll fluorescence and transcriptome analysis were determined at these four states. The results showed that: (1) Compared with state I, the photosynthetic capacity (Fv/Fm, Fv′/Fm′, rETRmax) and chlorophyll content (Chl a, Chl b, carotenoids) were enhanced in state II, whereas it decreased in state III and IV (the spore formation period); (2) a total of 41,058 unigenes were expressed during the spore formation process; (3) compared with state I, the genes related with photosynthesis, terpenoid backbone biosynthesis, and carotenoid biosynthesis were significantly upregulated in states II, III, and IV whereas glycolysis was downregulated in state I; (4) some genes of the transcription factors families, such as the C3H family, may be one of the key factors that regulate genes in the spore formation; (5) 574 of the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with flagella biosynthesis were annotated according to Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes Orthology, including 20 unigenes encoding intraflagellar transport proteins (IFTs) which had not been reported in previous transcriptome analysis in U. prolifera. This study provides a new perspective of spore formation at the gene transcriptional level, although the detailed transcription regulatory spore formation network remains to be unveiled.

The use of polysaccharides to produce functional micro- or nanoscale fibrous mats has attracted growing interest for their food-grade applications. In this study, the characterization and electro-spinnability of guar gum (GG) solutions loaded with tannic acid (TA) was demonstrated. Food-grade antioxidant materials were successfully produced by electrospinning while incorporating different loads of TA into GG fibers. Bead-free GG-TA fibers could be fabricated from GG solution (2 wt %) with 10 wt % TA. Increasing the amount of TA led to fibers with defects and larger diameter sizes. Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy and X-ray Diffraction of neat GG and TA loaded GG fibrous mats suggested that inclusion of TA interrupted the hydrogen bonding and that a higher density of the ordered junction zones formed with the increased TA. The high TA incorporation efficiency and retained antioxidant activity of the fibrous mats afford a potential application in active edible film or drug delivery system.

When flight vehicles (e.g., aerospace vehicles, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, near-space aircrafts, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and drones) fly at high speed, their surfaces suffer the micro-pressure from high-altitude thin air. The long-term effect of this pressure causes the surface components of flight vehicle to deform or fall off, which can lead to a serious accident. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a sensitivity-compensated micro-pressure flexible sensor based on hyper-elastic plastic material and plate parallel capacitance. The sensor is able to measure a range of 0–6 kPa micro-pressure suffered by the flight vehicle’s surface with high sensitivity and flexible devices. In this paper, we propose the principle, structure design and fabrication of the sensitivity-compensated micro-pressure flexible sensor. We carried out experiments to obtain the static characteristic curve between micro-pressure and the output capacitance of the sensor devices, and investigated the relationship between sensitivity and geometric parameters. We also compared the performance of the flexible sensor before and after sensitivity compensation. The result shows that the sensor can measure a range of 0–2 kPa and 2–6 kPa with a sensitivity of 0.27 kPa−1 and 0.021 kPa−1, which are 80% and 141.38% higher than the sensor before compensation; a linearity of 1.39% and 2.88%, which are 51.7% and 13.1% higher than the sensor before compensation; and a hysteresis and repeatability of 4.95% and 2.38%, respectively. The sensor has potential applications in flight vehicles to measure the micro-pressure with high sensitivity and flexibility.
