Abstract: Background: The Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD–Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) is a worldwide non-interventional study of stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular AF. Methods and results: 52,080 patients with newly diagnosed AF were prospectively enrolled from 2010 to 2016. 4121 (7.9%) of these patients were recruited in DACH [Germany (n = 3567), Austria (n = 465) and Switzerland (n = 89) combined], and 47,959 patients were from 32 countries in other regions worldwide (ORW). Hypertension was most prevalent in DACH and ORW (85.3% and 75.6%, respectively). Diabetes, hypercholesterolaemia, carotid occlusive disease and vascular disease were more prevalent in DACH patients vs ORW (27.6%, 49.4%, 5.8% and 29.0% vs 21.7%, 40.9%, 2.8% and 24.5%). The use of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) increased more in DACH over time. Management of vitamin K antagonists was suboptimal in DACH and ORW (time in therapeutic range of INR ≥ 65% in 44.6% and 44.4% of patients or ≥ 70% in 36.9% and 36.0% of patients, respectively). Adjusted rates of cardiovascular mortality and MI/ACS were higher in DACH while non-haemorrhagic stroke/systemic embolism was lower after 2-year follow-up. Conclusions: Similarities and dissimilarities in AF management and clinical outcomes are seen in DACH and ORW. The increased use of NOAC was associated with a mismatch of risk-adapted anticoagulation (over-and-undertreatment) in DACH. Suboptimal control of INR requires educational activities in both regional groups. Higher rates of cardiovascular death in DACH may reflect the higher risk profile of these patients and lower rates of non-haemorrhagic stroke could be associated with increased NOAC use. Abstract: تعد أجهزة التدفئة والتكييف مستهلكاً رئيسياً للطاقة الكهربائية، لذلك تم اتباع تكنولوجيا الطاقات المتجددة لجعل هذه الأجهزة تعمل على مصدر طاقي متجدد ومستدام، كالمضخة الحرارية. ففي دمسرخو أفادت الدراسات السابقة أنه يمكن استخدام مياهها الجوفية في مضخة حرارية لأغراض التدفئة والتكييف وفق شروط هيدروجيولوجية وجيوكيميائية وجيوحرارية محددة. يركز البحث على أداء المبادل الحراري لمضخة حرارية (هواء-مياه جوفية) ذات دارة مغلقة، يوضع المبادل الحراري فيها داخل البئر، فيتم تحسين أداء المبادل من خلال تصميمه بما يناسب الشروط المحددة لاستغلال المياه الجوفية في دمسرخو مع دراسة العوامل المؤثرة على تحسين أدائه من أجل زيادة كفاءة المضخة وتقليل كلفة التصنيع. تم إجراء مجموعة من الحسابات التصميمية شملت: (التدفق الكتلي للهواء والمياه الجوفية، رقم رينولدز، مُعاملي انتقال الحرارة بالحمل للمياه الجوفية والفريون، نسبة زيادة معامل انتقال الحرارة الكلي للمبادل قبل وبعد الزعنفة، نسبة زيادة معامل انتقال الحرارة الكلي مع قيم مختلفة لكل من معامل الموصلية الحرارية للزعانف، ارتفاع المبادل، المسافة بين اللفات وخطوة الحلزون). وبعد الحصول على النتائج، تم وباستخدام برنامج Excel، عرضها في جداول وتمثيلها في رسوم بيانية. تبين النتائج أن العامل ذو التأثير الأكبر على زيادة معامل انتقال الحرارة الكلي من العوامل المدروسة هو عرض الزعنفة بنسبة زيادة 3.9%، ثم يليه العامل قطر الأنبوب الداخلي بنسبة زيادة % 3.8، أما العامل الثالث من حيث الأولوية في التأثير فهو عدد لفات الأنبوب اللفائفي بنسبة زيادة 3.6%، في حين يتساوى العاملين خطوة الحلزنة وارتفاع الأنبوب في التأثير بنسبة زيادة 2.9% لكل منهما، أما العامل الأخير فهو معامل الموصلية الحرارية للزعانف عندما كانت نحاسية بنسبة زيادة 2.7%.

3. The effect of the mentoring model on improving the quality of life, mental health and training skills of newly-recruited teachers

Abstract: Background: Teaching and professional development is one of the vital components in the educational process. The present study aimed to design a mentoring model to train newly recruited teachers to improve their quality of life and mental health. Methods: This explanatory and sequential study was conducted in the education organization of Gilan province in two qualitative and quantitative sections. In the qualitative section of the exploratory method, semi-structured interviews were conducted using purposeful sampling. Teachers with more than 20 years of experience, retired, clerics with more than 20 years of experience, senior managers, and newly recruited teachers were included in the study. Sampling continued until reaching a theoretical saturation (23 people). The statistical population in the quantitative stage included 265 people selected by stratified sampling. In the quantitative section, confirmatory factor analysis and LISREL software were used. Results: The thematic analysis method was used to analyze the interviews and qualitative results were designed as a thematic network, a global theme, 8 organizing themes, and 43 basic themes. The organizing themes included the human elements of mentoring, educational, Islamic, structural, social, research, and mental health. In this section, the fit indices indicate the validity of an effective communication model with a mentoring approach, which was associated with improving teachers' quality of life and mental health. Conclusion: Human elements of mentoring, educational, structural, social, and research are crucial in mentoring newly recruited teachers. Thus, executives and relevant respondents should focus exclusively on implementing the research model.

Abstract: يطلق حرق كميات كبيرة من الوقود الأحفوري لتوليد الكهرباء اللازمة لأجهزة التدفئة والتكييف كميات كبيرة من ثاني أوكسيد الكربون، وهو أحد الغازات التي تلعب دوراً رئيسياً في ظاهرة الاحتباس الحراري لغلافنا الجوي. كما أنه من المتوقع أن يرتفع استهلاك الطاقة في جميع أنحاء العالم لتكييف الهواء وحده 33 ضعفاً بحلول عام 2100، مما يهدد أكثر بنفاد الوقود الأحفوري، ولمعالجة هذا الأمر كان لابد من اتباع تكنولوجيا الطاقات المتجددة، والأهم أن تكون هذه التكنولوجيا ذات كلفة مقبولة، وجدوى اقتصادية عالية، حتى تصبح متاحة للجميع. يركز البحث على الدراسة الهيدرولوجية المتضمنة جيوكيمياء المياه فيما يخص استخدامها في دارة التدفئة والتكييف على اعتبارها كمصدر حراري متجدد ومستدام، وتم لذلك أخذ عينات من 10آبار شملت البارمترات (شوارد البيكربونات، الكبريتات، المغنيزيوم، الصوديوم، الكلور والقساوة العامة). تبين أن المياه الجوفية في دمسرخو من الجيد والممكن استخدامها لتشغيل مضخة حرارية لأغراض التدفئة والتكييف.

5. Outbreak Investigation of Typhoid Fever in the District of Gabes, South of Tunisia

Abstract: Typhoid fever is a significant public health concern in many parts of the world, particularly in developing countries with poor sanitation and hygiene conditions. In July 2016, an outbreak of typhoid fever occurred in Ghannouche, located in the south of Tunisia. This paper reports the results of a field investigation undertaken to identify possible transmission pathways and risk factors in order to propose control and preventive measures. A retrospective cohort study including a passive and active case finding, as well as an environmental and bacteriological investigation was conducted from July to September 2016. A case was defined as a person residing or having stayed in Ghannouche and having presented from the beginning of June clinical signs suggestive of typhoid fever, with, for a confirmed case, laboratory isolation of S.Tyhi, and for a probable case, an epidemiological link with a confirmed case. Attack rates were determined, and risk ratios were estimated with respect to exposures. Unadjusted and adjusted odds ratios were estimated using binary logistic regression. Among the 628 subjects investigated, 102 cases of typhoid fever were identified (74 confirmed and 28 probable) with an overall attack rate of 16.24%. Over 56% of cases were male and those under 10 years old were most affected (38.2%% of cases) with a median age of 12 years (interquartile range 5 to 25 years). The main clinical signs were fever (95%) and diarrhea (57%). Young age (adjusted OR = 0.95 and 95% CI = 0.93–0.97), low level of education (adjusted OR = 4.76 and 95% CI = 1.34–16.81), and the habitat type Arab or rudimentary house (adjusted OR = 4.93 and 95% CI = 2.61–8.27) were the socio-demographic factors independently associated with typhoid fever. Typhoid fever was found to be associated with drinking softened water (adjusted OR = 2.64 and 95% CI = 1.16–4.82), eating raw fruit and vegetables from family gardens (adjusted OR = 6.13 and 95% CI = 3.66–11.06), and using uncontrolled waste disposal (adjusted OR = 3.52 and 95% CI = 2.03–6.94). A total of 110 drinking water samples were analyzed; out of the 38 samples of softened water, 12 were non-compliant and 5 were positive for Salmonella. The screening activity identified two asymptomatic carriers, one of whom was a softened water seller. We concluded that drinking softened water from informal or unauthorized sale units, consuming fruit and vegetables from family gardens, uncontrolled dumping of household waste, and poor socio-economic conditions increase the risk of typhoid fever in this region. Many recommendations were implemented to stop this outbreak and to prevent further episodes.

6. An efficient protocol for the synthesis of pyridines and hydroquinolones using IRMOF-3/GO/CuFe2O4 composite as a magnetically separable heterogeneous catalyst

Abstract: Abstract This study reports a facile and cost-effective technique for preparing magnetic copper ferrite nanoparticles supported on IRMOF-3/GO [IRMOF-3/GO/CuFe2O4]. The synthesized IRMOF-3/GO/CuFe2O4 was characterized with IR, SEM, TGA, XRD, BET, EDX, VSM, and elemental mapping. The prepared catalyst revealed higher catalytic behavior in synthesizing heterocyclic compounds through a one-pot reaction between various aromatic aldehydes, diverse primary amines, malononitrile, and dimedone under ultrasound irradiations. Among the notable features of this technique are higher efficiency, easy recovery from the reaction mixture, removal of a heterogeneous catalyst, and uncomplicated route. In this catalytic system, the activity level was almost constant after various stages of reuse and recovery.

Managing these conditions can be challenging due to the potential for seizures associated with certain antipsychotic medications, as well as exacerbating psychosis resulting from some antiepileptic medications. Our objective in this study was to assess the occurrence of psychosis among patients with epilepsy, as well as identify the factors linked to the presence and severity of psychosis in this population. Method: In this study, we included a total of 514 subjects diagnosed with epilepsy referring to our neuropsychiatry clinic affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences from April 2011 to December 2021, among whom 57 patients showed psychotic presentations. We compared baseline and clinical characteristics between patients with psychosis of epilepsy and non-psychosis patients who also had epilepsy. Results: Marital status was the sole demographic factor that displayed a statistically significant difference between the psychosis and non-psychosis groups (P = 0.019). There was no significant difference observed between the two groups regarding family history of epilepsy and age at the onset of the epilepsy. Patients with psychosis experienced significantly more frequent seizures and generalized type (P < 0.001). Participants were matched for demographics and other clinical factors between the refractory and controlled psychosis groups, except for the psychosis frequency (P = 0.007). The type of epilepsy was significantly associated with psychosis when adjusted for the covariates (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Patients with psychosis of epilepsy experienced more episodes of epilepsy than non-psychotics. We identified generalized epilepsy as an independent risk factor for the development of psychosis. Additional cohorts are warranted to explore the factors associated with epilepsy-related psychosis across diverse populations.

Abstract: Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is undoubtedly the most challenging pandemic in the current century with more than 293,241 deaths worldwide since its emergence in late 2019 (updated May 13, 2020). COVID-19 is caused by a novel emerged coronavirus named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Today, the world needs crucially to develop a prophylactic vaccine scheme for such emerged and emerging infectious pathogens. Methods: In this study, we have targeted spike (S) glycoprotein, as an important surface antigen to identify its B- and T-cell immunodominant regions. We have conducted a multi-method B-cell epitope (BCE) prediction approach using different predictor algorithms to discover the most potential BCEs. Besides, we sought among a pool of MHC class I and II-associated peptide binders provided by the IEDB server through the strict cut-off values. To design a broad-coverage vaccine, we carried out a population coverage analysis for a set of candidate T-cell epitopes and based on the HLA allele frequency in the top most-affected countries by COVID-19 (update 02 April 2020). Results: The final determined B- and T-cell epitopes were mapped on the S glycoprotein sequence, and three potential hub regions covering the largest number of overlapping epitopes were identified for the vaccine designing (I531–N711; T717–C877; and V883–E973). Here, we have designed two domain-based constructs to be produced and delivered through the recombinant protein- and gene-based approaches, including (i) an adjuvanted domain-based protein vaccine construct (DPVC), and (ii) a self-amplifying mRNA vaccine (SAMV) construct. The safety, stability, and immunogenicity of the DPVC were validated using the integrated sequential (i.e. allergenicity, autoimmunity, and physicochemical features) and structural (i.e. molecular docking between the vaccine and human Toll-like receptors (TLRs) 4 and 5) analysis. The stability of the docked complexes was evaluated using the molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Conclusion: These rigorous in silico validations supported the potential of the DPVC and SAMV to promote both innate and specific immune responses in preclinical studies.

Abstract: Introduction: Attributable to some critical features especially the similarity of the protein synthesis machinery between humans and microalgae, these microorganisms can be utilized for the expression of many recombinant proteins. However, low and unstable gene expression levels prevent the further development of microalgae biotechnology towards protein production. Methods: Here, we designed a novel "Gained Agrobacterium-2A plasmid for microalgae expression" (named GAME plasmid) for the production of the human interleukin-2 using three model microalgae, including Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, Chlorella vulgaris, and Dunaliella salina. The GAME plasmid harbors a native chimeric hsp70/Int-1/rbcS2 promoter, the microalgae specific Kozak sequence, a novel hybrid 2A peptide, and Int-1 and Int-3 of the rbcS2 gene in its expression cassette. Results: The obtained data confirmed that the GAME plasmid can transform the microalgae with high transformation frequency. Molecular and proteomic analyses revealed the stable and robust production of the hIL-2 by the GAME plasmid in the microalgae. According to the densimetric analysis, the microalgae can accumulate the produced protein about 0.94% of the total soluble protein content. The ELISA data confirmed that the produced hIL-2 possesses the same conformation pattern with the acceptable biological activity found naturally in humans. Conclusion: Most therapeutic proteins need post-translational modifications for their correct conformation, biological function, and half-life. Accordingly, microalgae could be considered as a cost-effective and more powerful platform for the production of a wide range of recombinant proteins such as antibodies, enzymes, hormones, and vaccines.

Abstract: Introduction: Gastric cancer is considered the second prevalent cause of death around the world. This type of cancer is generally induced by Helicobacter pylori which could colonize within the gastric mucosa of the infected cases. To date, triple antibiotic therapy has routinely been utilized for controlling the H. pylori-induced infection. However, this strategy has been unsuccessful, in large part because of issues such as occurring point mutations in the H. pylori genome that can induce resistance to the antibiotics administered. Recently, it has been shown that different probiotics may have strong anti-cancer effects, in which they are capable of inhibiting H. pylori by both immunological and non-immunological mechanisms. Here, we aimed at finding possible anti-cancer impacts of the probiotic bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum on gastric cancer, AGS cells. Methods: The anti-cancer effects of the conditioned media of the locally isolated L. plantarum on the AGS cells were evaluated by different analyses such as flow cytometry, DNA ladder assay, DAPI staining, and RT-PCR. Results: Our findings showed that the conditioned media of L. plantarum can inhibit both H. pylori and AGS cells through up-/down-regulation of PTEN, Bax, TLR4, and AKT genes. The exudates of the probiotic L. plantarum bacteria can increase the expression of PTEN, Bax, and TLR4, and also decrease the expression of AKT gene. Conclusion: In agreement with different reports, our results proved the anti-cancer effects of the locally isolated L. plantarum through some immunological cell signaling pathways. Accordingly, it seems the probiotics could be considered as at least a complementary treatment for different types of malignancies.

16. Microalgae as an Efficient Vehicle for the Production and Targeted Delivery of Therapeutic Glycoproteins against SARS-CoV-2 Variants

Abstract: Severe acute respiratory syndrome–Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) can infect various human organs, including the respiratory, circulatory, nervous, and gastrointestinal ones. The virus is internalized into human cells by binding to the human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor through its spike protein (S-glycoprotein). As S-glycoprotein is required for the attachment and entry into the human target cells, it is the primary mediator of SARS-CoV-2 infectivity. Currently, this glycoprotein has received considerable attention as a key component for the development of antiviral vaccines or biologics against SARS-CoV-2. Moreover, since the ACE2 receptor constitutes the main entry route for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, its soluble form could be considered as a promising approach for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 infection (COVID-19). Both S-glycoprotein and ACE2 are highly glycosylated molecules containing 22 and 7 consensus N-glycosylation sites, respectively. The N-glycan structures attached to these specific sites are required for the folding, conformation, recycling, and biological activity of both glycoproteins. Thus far, recombinant S-glycoprotein and ACE2 have been produced primarily in mammalian cells, which is an expensive process. Therefore, benefiting from a cheaper cell-based biofactory would be a good value added to the development of cost-effective recombinant vaccines and biopharmaceuticals directed against COVID-19. To this end, efficient protein synthesis machinery and the ability to properly impose post-translational modifications make microalgae an eco-friendly platform for the production of pharmaceutical glycoproteins. Notably, several microalgae (e.g., Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, Dunaliella bardawil, and Chlorella species) are already approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as safe human food. Because microalgal cells contain a rigid cell wall that could act as a natural encapsulation to protect the recombinant proteins from the aggressive environment of the stomach, this feature could be used for the rapid production and edible targeted delivery of S-glycoprotein and soluble ACE2 for the treatment/inhibition of SARS-CoV-2. Herein, we have reviewed the pathogenesis mechanism of SARS-CoV-2 and then highlighted the potential of microalgae for the treatment/inhibition of COVID-19 infection.

Abstract: تشكل الطاقة الكهربائية المستخدمة لتغطية استطاعة تكييف الهواء جزءاً هاماً وكبيراً من اجمالي استهلاك الطاقة، خاصةً مع تزايد استخدام أنظمة تكييف الهواء الانضغاطية" VCR". لذا كان لابد من البحث عن تقنيات تسمح بتخفيض استهلاك الطاقة لهذه الأنظمة، أو استبدالها بأنظمة أكثر كفاءةً واقل استهلاكاً. تبين الدراسة المقدمة والتي تناولت نظام التكييف المركزي في مشفى تشرين الجامعي باللاذقية، الكمية الكبيرة للمياه التي تنتجها أنظمة التكييف في المناخات الرطبة كمدينة اللاذقية والتي غالباً ما يتم هدرها دون الاستفادة منها، حيث تظهر الدراسة ان ما يزيد عن 11,000 [m3] من المياه المتكاثفة يتم انتاجها من وحدات معالجة الهواء خلال الموسم الصيفي. تظهر الدراسة أهمية استغلال هذه المياه في عملية التبريد المسبق مما يسمح بخفض استهلاك الطاقة لاسيما في المنشآت التي لا تسمح الشروط الصحية فيها باستغلال الهواء الراجع في عملية خفض الاستطاعة عبر حجرة المزج ضمن وحدات المعالجة، حيث تبين النتائج إمكانية تحقيق خفض في الاستطاعة المطلوبة لوحدة المعالجة بنسبة 12.23% وخفض الاستطاعة التشغيلية للمنشأة بنسبة تصل حوالي1.3% عبر استغلال هذه المياه.

In practice, the deposit contamination on the insulator surface is not uniform completely and is non-uniform contamination. So far, comprehensive research has not been carried out on the effects of different forms of non-uniform contamination on the performance of the insulators. In this paper, the effect of uniform contamination, longitudinal non-uniform pollution and fan-shaped non-uniform pollution in three levels of light, medium and heavy contamination on the potential and electrical field distribution of a 20 kV polymeric insulator using Comsol Multiphysics software have been done and the results have been Analyzed. In longitudinal non-uniform pollution, the severity of pollution in the near of high voltage and ground electrodes regions is heavier than the middle region, and in fan-shaped non-uniform pollution, the severity of pollution in the leeward side region is heavier than the windward side region. The results show that in slightly uniform pollution, the electric field decreases and its amplitude increases with increasing the pollution intensity. In longitudinal non-uniform pollution, electrical potential is almost constant in the near of electrodes and the electric field intensity has been decreased. Also, in the fan-shaped non-uniform pollution, the electric field intensity has been increased in the leeward side region.

Abstract: Background: In this study, some microsporidial and coccidian parasites were isolated from 103 domestic cats in the Meshkin Shahr area, northwestern Iran during the Jun 2014 to Jun 2015, and their genera were identified using parasitological methods with emphasis on their zoonotic importance. Methods: One hundred and three fecal samples of domestic cats were collected and preserved in formalin (10%) and conserved in phosphate buffer saline solution, finally examined by microscopy after formalin-ether concentration and specific staining. Preservation in dichromate potassium (2.5%) was performed for all coccidian positive samples and then sporulated coccidian oocysts were investigated. Results: The detected parasites were Isospora spp. 6/103(5.8%). Microsporidian spores were identified in 46/103 (44.6%) of all samples post-stained by the aniline blue staining method. Conclusion: Microsporidial infections were more prevalent in domestic cats. Further studies are needed in the identification of microsporidial spores isolated from infected cats.

Abstract: The current study aims to explain recent developments in the synthesis of Pb(II)-azido metal-organic coordination polymers. Coordination polymers are defined as hybrid materials encompassing metal-ion-based, organic linkers, vertices, and ligands, serving to link the vertices to 1D, 2D, or 3D periodic configurations. The coordination polymers have many applications and potential properties in many research fields, primarily dependent on particular host–guest interactions. Metal coordination polymers (CPs) and complexes have fascinating structural topologies. Therefore, they have found numerous applications in different areas over the past two decades. Azido-bridged complexes are inorganic coordination ligands with higher fascination that have been the subject of intense research because of their coordination adaptability and magnetic diversity. Several sonochemical methods have been developed to synthesize nanostructures. Researchers have recently been interested in using ultrasound in organic chemistry synthetics, since ultrasonic waves in liquids accelerate chemical reactions in heterogeneous and homogeneous systems. The sonochemical synthesis of lead–azide coordination compounds resulted from very fantastic morphologies, and some of these compounds are used as precursors for preparing nano lead oxide. The ultrasonic sonochemistry approach has been extensively applied in different research fields, such as medical imaging, biological cell disruption, thermoplastic welding, food processing, and waste treatment. CPs serve as appropriate precursors for preparing favorable materials at the nanoscale. Using these polymers as precursors is beneficial for preparing inorganic nanomaterials such as metal oxides.

Abstract: In this work, we report the synthesis of a magnetically recoverable catalyst through immobilizing copper (II) over the Fe3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) surface [Fe3O4@SiO2-L–Cu(II)] (L = pyridine-4-carbaldehyde thiosemicarbazide). Accordingly, synthesized catalysts were determined and characterized by energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) procedures. The [Fe3O4@SiO2-L–Cu(II)] was used for the reduction of Cr(VI), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and organic dyes such as Congo Red (CR) and methylene blue (MB) in aqueous media. Catalytic performance studies showed that the [Fe3O4@SiO2–L–Cu(II)] has excellent activity toward reduction reactions under mild conditions. Remarkable attributes of this method are high efficiency, removal of a homogeneous catalyst, easy recovery from the reaction mixture, and uncomplicated route. The amount of activity in this catalytic system was almost constant after several stages of recovery and reuse. The results show that the catalyst was easily separated and retained 83% of its efficiency after five cycles without considerable loss of activity and stability.

The structure determined using single-crystal X-ray crystallography indicates that the coordination compound is a 1D polymer in solid state and that the coordination number of bismuth (III) ions is six, (BiSCl5), with one S donor from the organic ligand and five Cl donors from anions. It is equipped with a hemidirectional coordination sphere. It is interesting that the ligand has been protonated in the course of the reaction with a Cl- ion balancing the charge. This compound’s supramolecular properties are directed and regulated by weak directional intermolecular interactions. Through π–π stacking interactions, the chains interact with one another, forming a 3D framework. Thermolysis of the compound at 170 °C with oleic acid resulted in the formation of pure phase nanosized Bi (III) oxide. SEM technique was used to examine the morphology and size of the bismuth (III) oxide product produced.

Abstract: Introduction: Several platforms including mammalian, plant and insect cells as well as bacteria, yeasts, and microalgae are available for the production of recombinant proteins. Low efficiency of delivery systems, extracellular and intracellular degradation of foreign genes during transformation, difficulties in targeting and importing into the nucleus, and finally problems in integration into nuclear genome are the most bottlenecks of classical plasmids for producing recombinant proteins. Owing to high growth rate, no common pathogen with humans, being utilized as humans’ food, and capability to perform N-glycosylation, microalgae are proposed as an ideal system for such biotechnological approaches. Here, Agrobacterium tumefaciens is introduced as an alternative tool for transformation of the microalga Dunaliella pseudosalina. Methods: The transformation of gfp gene into the D. pseudosalina was evaluated by three strains including EHA101, GV3301 and GV3850 of A. tumefaciens. The integrating and expression of gfp gene were determined by PCR, RT-PCR, Q-PCR and SDS-PAGE analyses. Results: The T-DNA of pCAMBIA1304 plasmid was successfully integrated into the genome of the microalgal cells. Although all of the strains were able to transform the algal cells, GV3301 possessed higher potential to transform the microalgal cells in comparison to EHA101 and GV3850 strains. Moreover, the stability of gfp gene was successfully established during a course of two months period in the microalgal genome. Conclusion: Agrobacterium is introduced as a competent system for stable transformation of Dunaliella strains in order to produce eukaryotic recombinant proteins.

24. Comparison anti-giardia activity of Satureja hortensis alcoholic extract and metronidazole in vitro

Abstract: Background and aims: Giardiasis is known as intestinal infection and created by the flagellate protozoan Giardia lamblia. Some studies showed that phenolic components, present in plant extracts and essential oils, have anti-Giardia activity. The current study was performed to compare anti-Giardia activity of Satureja hortensis (SH) alcoholic extract and metronidazole in vitro.Methods: In this Laboratory-experimental study, it was separated cysts from the feces by Bingham procedure with minor modification. The numbers of cysts were calculated with Hemusytumetr and the purified cysts of Giardia lamblia (500 µl) were exposed with 500 µl of extract at concentrations of 10, 100 and 200 mg/ml and 125 mg/kg of metronidazole for 30, 60 and 120 min. The numbers of dead and live cysts was enumerated with a microscope.Results: Findings in the currnt studyshowed an increase in anti-Giardia activity of extract at high concentrations with increasing time. SH, at 100 mg/ml killed 53% in 30 min, 68% in 60 min and 78% in 120 min. Also, the extract killed by 62% in 30 min, about 88% in 60 minutes and 92% in 120 minutes. The drug had similar effects in 60 and 120 minutes, but it killed 83% in 30 minutes.Conclusion: SH alcoholic extract showed anti-Giardia activity at high rates and more time. Thus, SH extract at 200 mg may be suitable alternative for Metronidazole, without side effects. However, anti-Giardia activity of SH needs to more attentions, especially clinical investigations.

Abstract: In the present work, using a sonochemical method, a new lead (II) coordination 1D polymer, [Pb(L)2(CH3COO)]n (L = pyridine-4-carbaldehyde thiosemicarbazone) (1) was prepared. It was characterized structurally with different spectroscopic methods, such as SEM, IR spectroscopy, XRD, and elemental analysis. The coordination compound becomes a stair-step one-dimensional polymer in solid mode. The lead (II) ions have the coordination number of six (PbNS3O2) with two oxygen atoms from acetate anion and three sulfur atoms and one nitrogen atom from organic ligand. It contains a stereo-chemically active lone electron pair and the hemidirected coordination sphere. The high-intensity ultrasound is considered a flexible, environmentally friendly, and easy synthetic tool for the coordination compounds. PbO clusters was achieved with thermolyzing 1 at 180 ˚C with oleic acid (as a surfactant). Furthermore, the size and morphology of the created PbO clusters were assessed via SEM. The estimated gap of HOMO and LUMO is 3.275 eV based on DFT calculations.

Abstract: Objective: Insulin release from pancreatic islet β cells should be tightly controlled to avoid hypoglycemia and insulin resistance. The cortical actin cytoskeleton is a gate for regulated exocytosis of insulin secretory granules (SGs) by restricting their mobility and access to the plasma membrane. Prior studies suggest that SGs interact with F-actin through their transmembrane cargo islet cell autoantigen 512 (Ica512) (also known as islet antigen 2/Ptprn). Here we investigated how Ica512 modulates SG trafficking and exocytosis. Methods: Transcriptomic changes in Ica512−/− mouse islets were analyzed. Imaging as well as biophysical and biochemical methods were used to validate if and how the Ica512-regulated gene villin modulates insulin secretion in mouse islets and insulinoma cells. Results: The F-actin modifier villin was consistently downregulated in Ica512−/− mouse islets and in Ica512-depleted insulinoma cells. Villin was enriched at the cell cortex of β cells and dispersed villin−/− islet cells were less round and less deformable. Basal mobility of SGs in villin-depleted cells was enhanced. Moreover, in cells depleted either of villin or Ica512 F-actin cages restraining cortical SGs were enlarged, basal secretion was increased while glucose-stimulated insulin release was blunted. The latter changes were reverted by overexpressing villin in Ica512-depleted cells, but not vice versa. Conclusion: Our findings show that villin controls the size of the F-actin cages restricting SGs and, thus, regulates their dynamics and availability for exocytosis. Evidence that villin acts downstream of Ica512 also indicates that SGs directly influence the remodeling properties of the cortical actin cytoskeleton for tight control of insulin secretion. Abstract: Background & objectives: Pars Abad Moghan city, due to the mild weather and numerous Pastures for animals feeding, is a suitable place for breeding sheep and goat. Babesiosis is one of the most important parasitic infection in animals, especially ruminants. Babesia is a protozoa living inside the red blood cells and transmitted to the host by hard Tick especially Rhipicephalus, Hyalomma, Dermacentor and Haemaphysalis. The aim of this study was to consider Babesia infection in sheep of Pars Abad Moghan city. Methods: In order to investigate the prevalence of babesia, 105 sheep in two different seasons of spring and summer were prepared and blood sample was taken and thin and thick smears were done. Thin blood smear was fixed with methanol and in order to determine the presence of the protozoan parasite, Giemsa with ratio of 1 to 14 in distilled water was used for staining. Results: The results showed that the number of 33 samples (31.42%) were infected with Babesia. Among these, 18 samples (17.14%) were infected with Babesia ovis, 9 (8.57%) with babesia motasi and 6 samples (5.71%) were infected simultaneously with both species of Babesia ovis and Babesia motasi. Conclusion: The rate of infection to Babesia among the sheep in Pars Abad Moghan city is remarkable. Early diagnosis and early treatment can prevent spread of the disease in this area.

The effect of Origanum vulgare (OV) hydroalcoholic extract is still uninvestigated. Thus, this study was conducted to evaluate the effect of OV hydroalcoholic extract on Giardia lamblia cysts compared with metronidazole in vitro. Methods: The present experimental study was conducted in 2015-2016 in the Laboratory of Department of Parasitology of Islamic Azad University (Abhar Branch, Abhar, Iran). Cysts separated from feces by Bingham procedure were calculated by using the Hemusytumetr method. Five hundred µl of concentrations of 10, 100 and 200 mg/ml of OV hydroalcoholic extract and also125 mg/kg of metronidazole were added to the purified cysts of giardia. Control group was treated with normal saline. Anti-Giardia activity was calculated by using the light microscope for 30, 60 and 120 min and after exposure to eosin stain. Results: The results indicated anti-Giardia activity of OV hydroalcoholic extract and the best response was achieved at higher levels so that there were no significant differences among OV groups at levels of 200 mg/kg with metronidazole (P>0.05). Conclusion: The anti-Giardia activity of Origanum vulgare extract is may due to the presence of phenolic compounds present in it.

Abstract: Background: Majority of parasitic infections in rodents have zoonotic importance. This study aimed to determine the frequency and intensity of intestinal protozoa infections of rodents including Meriones persicus, Mus musculus and, Cricetulus migratorius. Methods: This survey was conducted in Meshkin Shahr district in northwestern Iran from Mar. to Dec. of 2014. Intestinal samples of 204 rodents including M. persicus (n=117), M. musculus (n=63) and C. migratorius (n=24) were parasitologically examined. Formalin-ether concentration method was done for all of rodents stool samples and observed with light microscope. All of suspected cases were stained with trichorome staining Method. Cultivation in dichromate potassium 2.5% was carried out for all of coccidian positive samples. Acid fast and aniline blue staining methods were used for detecting of coccidian oocysts and intestinal microsporidial spores, respectively. Results: About 121(59.3%) of the caught rodents were generally infected with intestinal protozoa. Entamoeba muris 14(6.9%), Trichomonas muris 55(27.0%), Chilomastix betencourtti 17 (8.3%), Giardia muris 19(9.3%), Eimeria spp. 46(22.5%), Isospora spp. 4(2%) and Cryptosporidium spp. 1(0.5%) were found from the collected rodents. Microsporidian spores were identified in 63 (31%) out of the 204 collected rodents using aniline blue staining method. Conclusion: Since some of the infections are zoonotic importance thus, control of rodents can be decreased new cases of the parasitic zoonoses in humans.

Abstract: Background: Rodents play an important role as reservoir of some pathogens, and the host of some ectoparasites as well. These ectoparasites can transmit rodents’ pathogens to human or animals. The aim of this study was to assess the distribution and infestation load of ectoparasites on rodents in Meshkin-Shahr District, northwestern Iran. Method: Rodents were captured using baited live traps in spring 2014 from Meshkin-Shahr District and were transferred to the laboratory for identification to the species level. Their ectoparasites were collected, mounted and identified. Results: Three rodent species including Meriones persicus (74%), Mus musculus (16.9%) and Cricetulus migratorius (9%) were identified. Among all rodents, 185 specimens (90.69%) were infested with a total of 521 ectoparasites. Overall, 10 arthropods species were collected, including fleas (97.6%), one mite (1.6%) and one louse species (0.6%) as follows: Xenopsylla nubica, X. astia, X. buxtoni, X. cheopis, Nosopsyllus fasciatus, N. iranus, Ctenocephalides felis, Ctenophthalmus rettigismiti, Ornithonyssus sp and one species of genus Polyplax. The most prevalent ectoparasites species was X. nubica (89%). Conclusion: Nearly all rodent species were infested with Xenopsylla species. Monitoring of ectoparasites on infested rodents is very important for awareness and early warning towards control of arthropod-borne diseases.

Abstract: Background: Rodents have important role as reservoirs of different parasites. The aim of this study was to determine helminth parasites of abundant rodents in Meshkin-Shahr, Ardabil Province northwest Iran. Methods: From April 2014 to March 2015; 205 rodents including 118 Meriones persicus, 63 Mus musculus and 24 Cricetulus migratorius were collected, using live traps. All rodents were dissected and their different tissues examined for infectivity with helminth parasites. Results: Overall, 74.2% of rodents were infected with helminth parasites. The rate of infectivity in M. persicus, M. musculus and C. migratorius was 82.2%, 61.9%, 66.7%, respectively. In general, among all 205 rodents, the species and infection rates of helminthes were as follows: Nematoda: Trichuris sp. (46.8 %), Capillaria hepatica (18.1%), Syphacia frederici (14.2%), Aspicularis tetraptera (3.4%), Trichuris rhombomidis (2%), Heligmosomom sp. (2%), Streptopharagus kuntzi (0.5%), Spiruridae gen. sp. (0.5%); Cestoda: Hymenolepis nana fraterna (16.6%) Hymenolepis diminuta (7.3%) tetratiridium of Mesocestoides sp. (1%), Paranoplocephala sp. (0.5%), Cysticercus fasciolaris (0.5%), Taenia endothoracicus larva (0.5%), and Acanthocephala: Moniliformis moniliformis (18.5%). Conclusions: Variable species of helminthes circulate in the rodents of the study area. Presence of several zoonotic species highlights the potential risk of infections for public health.

Abstract: The effect of the addition of methionine to rice protein on the levels of plasma and lipoproteins cholesterol in relation to the casein were investigated in rats. Rats were fed diets containing casein (C), rice protein (RP), casein and colfibrate (CC), and rice protein with methionine (RPM). Serum total cholesterol concentrations were lower in rats fed RP, CC, and RPM diets than those fed C diet. The concentration of liver cholesterol was also lower in rats fed the RP diet.The serum high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol level and fecal bile acids were higher in rats fed (RP) diet than in those fed (C) or RPM diets.These results indicated that increased fecal bile acids excretion may be responsible for the antihypercholesterolemic effect of rice protein compared with casein.

Abstract: The pharmacy practice landscape is undergoing a significant transformation with the increasing integration of artificial intelligence (AI). As essential members of the healthcare team, pharmacists' readiness and willingness to adopt AI technologies is critical. This cross-sectional study explores pharmacists' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding AI in various practice settings. Utilizing a descriptive survey methodology, we collected data through a structured questionnaire targeting pharmacists across diverse working environments. Statistical analyses were conducted to calculate KAP scores. Results revealed that 44.8 % of participants possessed a moderate level of knowledge about AI, while 49.1 % expressed positive attitudes toward its potential applications in pharmacy. However, their current practices related to AI were rated as adequate (57.3 %). Notably, a significant association was found between knowledge, attitudes, and practices (p < 0.001). This study provides valuable insights into pharmacists' readiness to incorporate AI into their practice, emphasizing the need for targeted educational interventions to enhance knowledge and promote positive attitudes. Typically diagnosed in individuals aged 20 to 40 years with a male predominance, Behçet disease poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges., Case Presentation: We present a case concerning a 26-year-old female who was diagnosed with Behçet's disease nine years ago. This presentation is atypical for her age and gender. The patient has experienced recurrent thrombotic events, such as pulmonary embolism, a right pulmonary artery aneurysm, and right atrium intracardiac thrombosis., Clinical Discussion: This case underscores the atypical presentation of Behçet disease in a young female and highlights its potential for serious thrombotic complications. The recurrent thrombotic events observed in this patient necessitate a comprehensive understanding of the disease's pathophysiology and tailored therapeutic approaches., Conclusion: Behçet disease can manifest with significant thrombotic complications, even in atypical patient populations. Early detection of Nocturnal enuresis is critical due to its high frequency and the consequences for families and children regarding psychological and behavioral aspects., Objectives: This study aims to determine the prevalence of voiding disorder in Palestine and its relationship to demographic, family, and behavioral risk factors., Design: A cross-sectional study., Methods: This study administered a 2-part validated questionnaire to the mothers of primary school-age children who had no history of urological disease between December 2022 and March 2023., Results: Out of 169 children; daytime incontinence was found in 39 (23.2%) of the sample, whereas nocturnal enuresis was found in 49 (28.4%). Age was significantly correlated with voiding dysfunction, in which 25 (55.6%) were under the age of 7 years ( P = .025)., Conclusion: According to our data, VD is a widespread health issue in primary school. Expanding our understanding of voiding dysfunction is important to eliminate the social stigma associated with voiding disorder and encourage parents and children to seek treatments and therapies. Furthermore, raising awareness will aid in early diagnosis, resulting in fewer long-term problems and earlier treatments. 38. Congenital hydrocephalus and ligneous conjunctivitis in two children with severe type I plasminogen deficiency: A case report and literature review.

Abstract: Type I plasminogen (PLG I) deficiency is a genetic disorder inherited in an autosomal recessive mode and carries high mortality and morbidity. This case report discusses two babies, aged 2 and 3 months, who were diagnosed with ligneous conjunctivitis and congenital hydrocephalus. They had progressive macrocephaly, which led to the insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. However, there was no significant improvement. During the course of the disease, they underwent genetic testing and were diagnosed with PLG I deficiency. One of the babies underwent ventriculocholecystic shunt insertion as part of palliative care and management, since this disease has poor absorption in the peritoneal cavity. Unfortunately, there was no improvement observed, and he died at 18 months. The other baby received intravenous plasma (10 ml/kg) three times a week, plus using several eye drops daily, with moderate improvement. Promising results are expected with the approved plasminogen, human-tvmh, by the Food and Drug Administration. A 12-item online questionnaire assessed ethical concerns related to the adoption of AI in pharmacy practice. Demographic factors associated with ethical concerns were analyzed via SPSS v.27 software using appropriate statistical tests., Results: Participants expressed concerns about patient data privacy (58.9%), cybersecurity threats (58.9%), potential job displacement (62.9%), and lack of legal regulation (67.0%). Tech-savviness and basic AI understanding were correlated with higher concern scores (p < 0.001). Abstract: Background: Modern patient care depends on the continuous improvement of community and clinical pharmacy services, and artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to play a key role in this evolution. Although AI has been increasingly implemented in various fields of pharmacy, little is known about the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of pharmacy students and faculty members towards this technology., Objectives: The primary objective of this study was to investigate the KAP of pharmacy students and faculty members regarding AI in six countries in the Middle East as well as to identify the predictive factors behind the understanding of the principles and practical applications of AI in healthcare processes., Material and Methods: This study was a descriptive cross-sectional survey. A total of 875 pharmacy students and faculty members in the faculty of pharmacy in Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Libya participated in the study. Data was collected through an online electronic questionnaire. The data collected included information about socio-demographics, understanding of AI basic principles, participants' attitudes toward AI, the participants' AI practices., Results: Most participants (92.6%) reported having heard of AI technology in their practice, but only a small proportion (39.5%) had a good understanding of its concepts. The overall level of knowledge about AI among the study participants was moderate, with the mean knowledge score being 42.3 ± 21.8 out of 100 and students having a significantly higher knowledge score than faculty members. The attitude towards AI among pharmacy students and faculty members was positive, but there were still concerns about the impact of AI on job security and patient safety. Pharmacy students and faculty members had limited experience using AI tools in their practice. The majority of respondents (96.2%) believed that AI could improve patient care and pharmacy services. However, only a minority (18.6%) reported having received education or training on AI technology. High income, a strong educational level and background, and previous experience with technologies were predictors of KAP toward using AI in pharmacy practice. 41. The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Loneliness Among University Students: A Cross-Sectional Study in Jordan.

Abstract: Introduction: Loneliness is characterized by a sense of melancholy, emptiness, and despair, as well as a higher risk of both psychological and physical problems. Numerous post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) sequela, both physically and mentally, have been caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic that has affected many people. Memory issues and loneliness were found to be uniquely correlated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how the COVID-19 epidemic affected the levels of loneliness among Jordanian university students., Methods: This is a cross-sectional questionnaire-based study. Google Forms were used for data collection, utilizing a three-item loneliness scale developed by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), United States, which accounts for the following items: (1) how often does the participant feel about lacking companionship, (2) how often does the participant feel being left out, and (3) how often does the participant feel isolated from others. Each item was marked for three frequency levels of experience: (1) hardly ever, (2) some of the time, and (3) often. Responses to the three loneliness questions were graded on a scale of 3-9, with scores between 3 and 5 indicating "not lonely" and scores between 6 and 9 indicating "lonely.", Results: The study included 802 participating students. Specifically, 75.4% of the participants were females, 58% were aged 20-25, and 39% were 17-19. In addition, 37% were from the capital city, while 28% lived in the middle area. Seventy nine percent were from public universities, and 74% were studying in their second year. According to UCLA's three-item loneliness scale, 411 (51.2%) participants were lonely, while 391 (48.8%) participants were not feeling lonely. According to direct question answers, 576 (71.8%) participants were lonely, and 226 (28.2%) were not lonely., Conclusion: The study concluded that the frequency of loneliness was high among Jordanian university students. 42. Assessment of Jordanian pharmacists' knowledge and perception regarding sexual and reproductive health and their practice in providing sexual counseling to patients.

Abstract: Objective: In this quantitative study, we intended to explore sexual/ reproductive counseling between Jordanian pharmacists by addressing pharmacists' knowledge regarding sexual/ reproductive health and their perception and practice in providing counseling to patients., Method: This study adopted a survey methodology using a self-completed validated and administered unnamed survey. Participants were asked to fill-out the electronic survey after providing their electronic consent. Social media was utilized to extend the survey to facilitate contact multiple parts of pharmacists' community., Results: In this study, 200 pharmacists agreed to participate in this study. Most of the pharmacists knew that depression (n= 182, 91%) and alcohol (n=171, 85.5%) were among the main factors that my decrease sexual performance. Also, only 38.5% of the pharmacists (n= 77) agreed that discussing sexual issues is the responsibility pf pharmacists, and only 55% of them (n= 110) felt comfortable discussing patients' sexual matters as any medical issue. Moreover, more than two-third of the pharmacist (n= 146, 73%) reported that if they were consulted about sexual problem, they may explore patients' problem. On the other side, only half of pharmacists (n= 102, 51%) revealed that they may discuss the side effects of prescribed drug if it might affect sexual performance., Conclusion: Education on sexuality/ reproduction is the key to help Jordanian pharmacists to advance patients' sexual/ reproductive health. In general, research on sexual/ reproductive health in conservative societies is limited. 43. Factors Influencing Public Willingness to Reuse the Unused Stored Medications in Jordan: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Abstract: The reissuing, redispensing, redistributing, or even recycling of the returned unused stored medicines is referred to as medicine reuse. A few studies have examined people's willingness to reuse unused stored medicines. This study aims primarily to explore the public's willingness to reuse unused stored medicines in the future and the factors affecting their decisions, and to assess the pharmacological types and formulations of the unused stored medicines by the public. A cross-sectional study was conducted using a convenient sampling technique over three weeks (February-March 2022) among Jordanian populations. Data were collected from 681 participants who agreed to fill out a questionnaire, which was distributed online. Participants showed a positive perception of reusing any of the unused stored medicines in the future; of those, 79.6% ( n = 400) believed that reusing "unused medicines" has economic benefits and 50% ( n = 251) believe there are environmental benefits. Moreover, more than half of the participants believed that reusing "unused medicines" is safe ( n = 256, 51%), but provided that a pharmacist or a doctor evaluates their quality or that the unused medicines are stored well. Results from this study show that the public positively endorses the idea of reusing unused stored medicines if the quality and safety are assured. However, future studies are needed to evaluate the Jordanian healthcare professionals' perceptions towards medicine reuse and pharmaceutical companies' willingness to be a part or facilitator of medicine reuse.

Abstract: Analysis of internet search queries (ISQ) could be useful to study public interest and medical need for corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery. To date, there are preliminary data on seasonal trends in ophthalmic conditions, but only few studies correlate these data with real data from healthcare systems. The aim of this study is to analyze ISQ and correlate it with real healthcare system data. Data were retrieved from the KBV registry of patients who underwent outpatient ophthalmic surgery in Germany from 2017 to 2019 and from Statista GmbH from 2010 to 2020 for corneal refractive surgery. Time Series analysis of ISQ was analyzed from 2004 to 2020 and correlated with healthcare system data using bivariate correlation analysis. ISQ correlated significantly with the incidence of ophthalmic procedures such as corneal transplantations (r = 0.69, p < 0.05), cataract- (r = 0.59, p < 0.05) and refractive laser surgery (r = 0.83, p < 0.05) in Germany. In addition, specific trends were observed with respect to individual surgical procedures. The correlation between search intensities and surgical procedures varied significantly. Thus, interests in surgical procedures can be tracked by observing changes in ISQ over time. 45. Synchrotron-Radiation-Based Fourier Transform Infrared Microspectroscopy as a Tool for the Differentiation between Staphylococcal Small Colony Variants.

Abstract: Small colony variants (SCVs) are clinically significant and linked to persistent infections. In this study, synchrotron-radiation-based Fourier transform infrared (SR-FTIR) is used to investigate the microspectroscopic differences between the SCVs of Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) and diabetic foot Staphylococcus epidermidis ( S. epidermidis ) in two main IR spectral regions: (3050-2800 cm -1 ), corresponding to the distribution of lipids, and (1855-1500 cm -1 ), corresponding to the distribution of protein amide I and amide II and carbonyl vibrations. SR-FTIR successfully discriminated between the two staphylococcal species and between the SCV and the non-SCV strains within the two IR spectral regions. Combined S. aureus SCVs (SCVhMu) showed a higher protein content relative to the non-SCV wild type. Complemented S. aureus SCV showed distinguishable differences from the SCVhMu and the wild type, including a higher content of unsaturated fatty acids. An increase in the CH 2 /CH 3 ratio was detected in S. epidermidis SCV samples compared to the standard control. Protein secondary structure in standard S. epidermidis and SCVs consisted mainly of an α-helix; however, a new shoulder at 1635 cm -1 , assigned to β-sheets, was evident in the SCV. In conclusion, SR-FTIR is a powerful method that can discriminate between staphylococci species and to differentiate between SCVs and their corresponding natural strains.

46. Prevalence and Predictive Factors of Masked Depression and Anxiety among Jordanian and Palestinian Couples: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Abstract: Although anxiety and depression are among the most prevalent mental disorders worldwide, they continue to gain less attention than their physical counterparts in terms of health care provision and population mentalisation. This cross-sectional study explores and compares the national prevalence of depression and anxiety signs/symptoms and well as identifying associated socio-demographic factors among Jordanian and Palestinian fertile couples. Four-hundred and sixty-nine participants were eligible for inclusion and agreed to participate in the study. The mean score for HAM-A and BDI-II were 12.3 ± 8.2 and 15.30 ± 10.0, respectively. According to the grading of HAM-A and BDI-II, the majority of the participants have graded themselves to be mildly anxious (N = 323, 68.9%) and around one third of participants (N = 148, 31.6%) moderately to severe depressed. The suicidal intent was remarkable and of concern where around 18.6% of participants had suicidal thoughts and wishes. There was a significant correlation between both HAM-score and BDI-II score and age [p = 0.01, p = 0.011, respectively], body weight [p = 0.01, p = 0.006, respectively], and total monthly income [p < 0.001, p < 0.001, respectively]. Our findings ought to alert healthcare professionals and other interested parties that there is a high burden of anxiety and depression symptoms among Jordanian and Palestinian couples. To support Jordanian and Palestinian couples’ mental health, healthcare professionals, researchers, and educators favoured to concentrate on creating efficient and culturally relevant education, preventive, and intervention procedures utilising evidence-based guidelines.

47. The COVID-19 Pandemic and Patient Safety Culture: A Cross-Sectional Study among Community Pharmacies in Jordan.

Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically imposed stressful conditions that may impact the ability of healthcare staff to provide safe and effective care. Research on patient safety culture among community pharmacies during the pandemic is limited. This study aimed to assess the patient safety culture among community pharmacies in Jordan during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pharmacists and pharmacy assistants from 450 community pharmacies were approached through online means, with 378 answering the questionnaire written in Arabic that had been adapted from the Community Pharmacy Survey on Patient Safety Culture (PSOPSC). This study showed that various patient safety standards were addressed to a high degree during the COVID-19 pandemic, as represented by the high positive response rate (PRR) measures that were mainly observed in the dimensions "Teamwork" (90.1%), "Patient Counseling" (85.2%), and "Staff Training and Skills" (82.7%). Furthermore, significantly higher PRR scores for the "Teamwork", "Staffing, Work Pressure, and Pace", "Response to Mistakes", "Organizational Learning-Continuous Improvement", and "Overall Perceptions of Patient Safety" dimensions were observed among participants who worked in independent pharmacies than those who worked in chain pharmacies. Despite an overall positive patient safety culture in the current context of community pharmacies in Jordan during the COVID-19 pandemic, pitfalls were observed in the "Staffing, Work Pressure, and Pace" dimension.

Abstract: Background: Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) is characterised by congenital joint contractures in two or more body areas. AMC exhibits wide phenotypic and genetic heterogeneity. Our goals were to improve the genetic diagnosis rates of AMC, to evaluate the added value of whole exome sequencing (WES) compared with targeted exome sequencing (TES) and to identify new genes in 315 unrelated undiagnosed AMC families., Methods: Several genomic approaches were used including genetic mapping of disease loci in multiplex or consanguineous families, TES then WES. Sanger sequencing was performed to identify or validate variants., Results: We achieved disease gene identification in 52.7% of AMC index patients including nine recently identified genes ( CNTNAP1 , MAGEL2 , ADGRG6 , ADCY6 , GLDN , LGI4 , LMOD3 , UNC50 and SCN1A ). Moreover, we identified pathogenic variants in ASXL3 and STAC3 expanding the phenotypes associated with these genes. The most frequent cause of AMC was a primary involvement of skeletal muscle (40%) followed by brain (22%). The most frequent mode of inheritance is autosomal recessive (66.3% of patients). In sporadic patients born to non-consanguineous parents (n=60), de novo dominant autosomal or X linked variants were observed in 30 of them (50%)., Conclusion: New genes recently identified in AMC represent 21% of causing genes in our cohort. A high proportion of de novo variants were observed indicating that this mechanism plays a prominent part in this developmental disease. 49. Feasibility of using simulated patients for onsite structured practice feedback in Jordanian community pharmacy settings.

Abstract: Simulated patient (SP) visits followed with structured feedback is useful to outline training needs as well as preference for continuing professional education in community pharmacy settings. This study aimed to investigate community pharmacists' management of an over-the-counter (OTC) product request and feasibility of immediate SP feedback in Jordan. Four trained SP visited a sample of pharmacies in three main urban cities in Jordan requesting an antacid. Information request and professional behavior as well as content of information were evaluated. The SP provided structured immediate feedback. The pharmacy staff views on the visit and usefulness of the feedback were collected. A total of 57 visits were conducted. The average duration of SP visits was 1.55 min. The average score (±SD) for information seeking behavior was 16% (±7) and for professional behavior was 56% (±15). The average score for information provision provided spontaneously was 17.1% (±12). Upon demand by the SP; the average score for information improved to 47.6 (±18). Non-pharmacological advice was not offered often; only 6 (10.5%) visits. Written information was provided in 10 (17.5%) visits. Immediate feedback was accepted by all visited pharmacies. Participants expressed positive views about the SP visit and usefulness of the feedback. Community pharmacists supplied OTC drug without carful screening of symptoms and essential information. The SP approach with immediate feedback was shown feasible and well accepted. 50. Assessing content and factors influencing responses to information requests in community pharmacies in Jordan: A simulated patients study.

Abstract: Objectives: To assess the management of requests for information about a prescription only medicine (simvastatin for treatment of dyslipidemia) by pharmacy staff in community settings and explore the factors influencing the information content., Methods: A cross sectional study conducted using the stimulated patient (SP) method between November 2018 and May 2019. The SP conveyed the request at the beginning of the encounter in a standardized way based on predetermined plots and was instructed to ask the pharmacy staff directly if information was not discussed spontaneously. After the visit, the SP provided written feedback including information about the scenario and a copy of individualized feedback. The study was reported according to the checklist for reporting research using simulated patient methodology (CRiSP). Factors influencing information content with or without information demand were investigated., Results: A total of 55 visits were analyzed. The average content score for the information discussed spontaneously was 16.2% with the standard deviation (SD) equal to15.6. The score improved significantly after information was demanded by the SP; the average total information content score became 34.4% (SD = 16) with p < 0.001. The score of information discussed spontaneously was higher for male pharmacy staff, older age, more experience, and a Pharm D degree. When the SP prompted or demanded for information, older pharmacy staff with more experience and with a college degree scored higher. Independent pharmacies, longer visit durations, and less distraction were associated significantly with higher information scores Pharmacy staff aged 35-39 and those with 6-10 years of experience were significant contributors to spontaneous discussion of information with p values = 0.003 and 0.013, respectively. After the SP demanded information, pharmacy staff with less than 5 years of experience and greater confidence as well as longer visits were positively predicting higher information scores with p values of 0.049, 0.04, and 0.04, respectively., Conclusions: Information provided by community pharmacists responding to information requests about prescription only medications was found to be suboptimal. Patient requests for information were found to be a positive driver for better information content. Further research of mixed methodologies is required to clarify the factors and motivators enabling information exchange in community settings and to outline true training needs., Competing Interests: All authors of the manuscript declare no completing or conflict of interests.
