1. The Impact of the COVID 19 Pandemic on Psychiatric Hospitalizations in a Portuguese Department: A Retrospective Observacional Study

Abstract: Introduction The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic on March 11th 2020. Since then, the containment measures were leading to increasing mental health problems in the general population and worsening of some pre‑existing psychiatric conditions. To our knowledge, there are few studies characterizing the impact of the COVID‑19 pandemic on psychiatric hospitalizations across the world. Objectives We aimed to compare the number and characteristics of the hospitalizations in the mental health department of a Portuguese psychiatric hospital from March 2nd 2019 to October 31st 2019 with those that occurred in the same period in 2020. Methods We conducted a retrospective observational study including all patients admitted to hospital during these periods (n=805). Sociodemographic data, clinical characteristics and information about the context of hospitalization were collected. Statistical analysis was performed using t Student Test, Mann‑Whitney and Chi‑square. Results In the pandemic period there was a marked reduction in the number of psychiatric hospitalizations. There was a statistically significant difference in the median length of stay and in the percentage of involuntary hospitalizations between the two periods. In 2019, the most frequent International Classification of Diseases (10th Revision) diagnostic categories were F30‑F39 (mood disorders) and in 2020 were F20‑F29 (schizophrenia, schizotypal and delusional disorders). Conclusions The reorganization of services and the decrease in admissions through the emergency department may explain these results. Disclosure of Interest None Declared

2. Neurohormonal modulation: The new paradigm of pharmacological treatment of heart failure

Abstract: The current paradigm of medical therapy for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is triple neurohormonal blockade with an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI), a beta-blocker (BB) and a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA). However, three-year mortality remains over 30%.Stimulation of counter-regulatory systems in addition to neurohormonal blockade constitutes a new paradigm, termed neurohormonal modulation. Sacubitril/valsartan is the first element of this new strategy.PARADIGM-HF was the largest randomized clinical trial conducted in HFrEF. It included 8442 patients and compared the efficacy and safety of sacubitril/valsartan versus enalapril. The primary endpoint was the composite of cardiovascular mortality and hospitalization due to HF, which occurred in 914 (21.8%) patients receiving sacubitril/valsartan and in 1117 (26.5%) patients receiving enalapril (HR 0.8, 95% CI 0.73-0.87, p=0.0000002; NNT 21). Sacubitril/valsartan reduced both primary endpoint components, as well as sudden cardiac death, death due to worsening HF, and death from all causes. Patients on sacubitril/valsartan reported less frequent deterioration of HF and of quality of life, and discontinued study medication less frequently because of an adverse event.PARADIGM-HF demonstrated the superiority of sacubitril/valsartan over enalapril, with a 20% greater impact on cardiovascular mortality compared to ACEIs. Accordingly, in 2016, the European (ESC) and American (ACC/AHA/HFSA) cardiology societies simultaneously issued a class I recommendation for the replacement of ACEIs by sacubitril/valsartan in patients resembling PARADIGM-HF trial participants. Resumo: O paradigma atual da terapêutica médica da insuficiência cardíaca com fração de ejeção reduzida (ICFEr) é o triplo bloqueio neuro-hormonal com inibidores da enzima conversora da angiotensina (IECA), bloqueadores beta-adrenérgicos (BB) e antagonistas dos recetores mineralocorticóides (ARM). Contudo, a mortalidade a três anos destes doentes mantém-se superior a 30%.A estimulação de sistemas contra-reguladores em adição ao bloqueio neuro-hormonal constitui um novo paradigma designado por modulação neuro-hormonal. O sacubitril/valsartan é o primeiro passo desta nova estratégia.O PARADIGM-HF foi o maior estudo aleatorizado realizado na ICFEr, tendo incluído 8442 doentes. Comparou a eficácia e segurança do sacubitril/valsartan versus enalapril. O objetivo primário foi o composto mortalidade cardiovascular/hospitalização por IC. Este ocorreu em 914 (21,8%) doentes sob sacubitril/valsartan e 1117 (26,5%) doentes sob enalapril (hazard ratio (HR) 0,8, IC95% [0,73-0,87], p=0,0000002, número de doentes necessário para prevenir um evento [NNT]=21). O sacubitril/valsartan reduziu ambos os componentes do objetivo primário. Diminuiu a morte súbita cardíaca, a devida a agravamento da IC e também a morte por todas as causas. Nos doentes sob sacubitril/valsartan ocorreu menos frequentemente agravamento da IC, deterioração da qualidade de vida e interrupção da medicação em consequência de um efeito adverso.O PARADIGM-HF demonstrou superioridade do sacubitril/valsartan relativamente ao enalapril, sendo o seu efeito sobre a mortalidade cardiovascular 20% superior ao dos IECAs. Assim, as Sociedades Europeia (ESC) e Americanas (ACC/AHA/HFSA) de Cardiologia incluíram, simultaneamente, em 2016 uma recomendação de Classe I para substituição dos IECAs pelo sacubitril/valsartan em doentes com características semelhantes aos participantes do ensaio PARADIGM-HF. 3. White matter disconnection and decreased functional connectivity between orbitofrontal cortex and the contralateral temporo-occipital cortex in adults with obsessive compulsive disorder

Abstract: Introduction Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) affects 2-3% of the general population. The neurobiology of OCD has been linked to dysfunction of cortico-striatal circuits connecting the orbitofrontal (OFC) to the striatum. Recently, this loop has become an approved target for non-invasive neuromodulatory treatment of OCD. Objectives To explore structural and functional connectivity of the OFC in OCD subjects and healthy controls. Methods 14 OCD patients and 12 age/sex-matched controls underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (3T-Philips scanner) for diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and resting state functional connectivity (rsFC). DTI images were brain extracted and corrected for movement and eddy currents. A diffusion tensor model was fitted to each voxel and used to generate Fractional Anisotropy (FA) maps. Voxel-wise statistical analysis of FA was performed using Tract-Based Spatial Statistics. RsFC images were preprocessed and seed-based correlation (SBC) analysis was performed using Data Processing Assistant for Resting-State fMRI. Results We found decreased values of FA in the body of the Corpus Callosum bilaterally (MNI_coordinates: x= 16, y= -16, z= 33 and x= -19, y= -16, z= 42) and left superior longitudinal fasciculus in OCD patients (fig 1, left), as well as decreased rsFC of the right superior orbitofrontal seed with the left inferior frontal gyrus and left middle occipital gyrus (fig 2, right). Conclusions Using an exploratory multimodal approach we found evidence of abnormal structural and functional long-range connectivity of the OFC in OCD. If confirmed in a larger sample these connectivity abnormalities could be explored as potential predictors of response to OFC-targeted non-invasive neuromodulatory interventions. Abstract: Background: The Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD–Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) is an ongoing prospective noninterventional registry, which is providing important information on the baseline characteristics, treatment patterns, and 1-year outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). This report describes data from Indian patients recruited in this registry. Methods and results: A total of 52,014 patients with newly diagnosed AF were enrolled globally; of these, 1388 patients were recruited from 26 sites within India (2012–2016). Abstract: La orbitopatía tiroidea es una patología potencialmente grave que amenaza la visión. Es la manifestación extratiroidea más frecuente de la enfermedad de Graves y, aunque la prevalencia no está evaluada en Colombia, puede producir pérdida de la visión, con consecuencias catastróficas. Teniendo en cuenta lo anterior, se realizó este trabajo con el objetivo de describir su enfoque diagnóstico y terapéutico basado en la mejor evidencia disponible. Se elaboró un protocolo de manejo aplicable a nuestro medio y se realizó una evaluación y adaptación de la guía European Group on Graves’ Orbitopathy (EUGOGO) del 2016 (1). Para la evaluación se usó la herramienta AGREE IIy se utilizó la metodología GRADE para la graduación de la calidad de la evidencia y formulación de las recomendaciones (2). Adicionalmente, se hizo una revisión sistemática de la literatura con el objetivo de evaluar la eficacia de la terapia biológica en el manejo de la orbitopatía de Graves. Se presentan las recomendaciones para el diagnóstico, tratamiento y seguimiento. Se recalca la importancia de contar con un equipo multidisciplinario con experiencia en el manejo de la orbitopatía tiroidea (endocrinología, oftalmología, cirugía de órbita, radioterapia y reumatología), idealmente en un centro de tercer nivel de atención. Es esencial la clasificación adecuada para determinar qué pacientes se benefician del tratamiento inmunosupresor. 6. Estimating red deer abundance using the pellet-based distance sampling method

Abstract: Many European agricultural landscapes have been abandoned facilitating the comeback of large ungulates. In Portugal, the increase in red deer numbers caused local conflicts with landowners reporting economic losses in forest and agricultural plantations. A great effort is needed to mitigate human-red deer conflicts through management strategies. Successful management strategies require reliable information on population trends. Here we propose an easy and readily applied method to estimate an increasing ungulate population. We estimated the red deer population density in a Mediterranean environment located in northeastern Portugal: Lombada National Hunting Area (LNHA) and Serra de Montesinho (SM), using pellet group counts coupled with distance sampling to account for pellet detectability. The estimated red deer density using a stratified detection function was 5.81 indd per 100 ha for LNHA and 1.34 indd per 100 ha for SM (95% CI: 3.65-9.25 and 0.74-2.42, respectively). For the entire area, the estimated density was 3.38 deer per 100 ha (95% CI: 2.18-5.24). Monitoring population trends is crucial to assess the impact of methods aimed at reducing the population size or impact and here we provided an example of a robust method that can be implemented to continuously monitor expanding populations.

Abstract: Acute high-altitude (HA) exposure can induce several pathologies. Dexamethasone (DEX) can be taken prophylactically to prevent HA disease, but the mechanism by which it acts in this setting is unclear. We studied the transcriptome of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from 16 subjects at low altitude (LA, 225 m) and then 3 days after acute travel to HA (3500 m) during the India-Leh-Dexamethasone-Expedition-2020 (INDEX2020). Half of the participants received oral DEX prophylaxis 4 mg twice daily in an unblinded manner, starting 1 day prior to travel to HA, and 12 h prior to the first PBMC collection. PBMC transcriptome data were obtained from 16 subjects, half of whom received DEX. The principal component analysis demonstrated a clear separation of the groups by altitude and treatment. HA exposure resulted in a large number of gene expression changes, particularly in pathways of inflammation or the regulation of cell division, translation, or transcription. DEX prophylaxis resulted in changes in fewer genes, particularly in immune pathways. The gene sets modulated by HA and DEX were distinct. Deconvolution analysis to assess PBMC subpopulations suggested changes in B-cell, T-cell, dendritic cell, and myeloid cell numbers with HA and DEX exposures. Acute HA travel and DEX prophylaxis induce significant changes in the PBMC transcriptome. The observed benefit of DEX prophylaxis against HA disease may be mediated by suppression of inflammatory pathways and changing leukocyte population distributions.

8. The use of accelerometers to assess upper limb function in patients with obstetric brachial plexus palsy

Abstract: Abstract For half a century, the Mallet Scale (MS) has been utilized to assess upper limb function in patients with obstetric brachial plexus palsy (OBPP). However, the correct use of the MS requires trained personnel and the MS does not measure compensatory movements. For this reason, new methods are needed to compensate for these weaknesses. This study introduces an innovative method for objective functional motion analysis using accelerometers to measure upper limb movements in thirty patients with obstetric brachial plexus lesions. Five triaxial accelerometers were positioned on the chest and each upper limb. They recorded acceleration signals during repetitive everyday tasks: hand-to-mouth (HM), hand-to-neck (HN), and hand-to-spine (HS). From these signals, 54 features were extracted and subjected to linear correlation tests to identify 5 suitable features. An algorithm was then developed to categorize patients into five groups and compute an individual movement performance score (iMPScore) assessing the patient’s upper extremity function. By using the iMPScore more than 75% of all participants have been classified correctly with respect to their MS category. Identification of MS I category patients in general and assessing upper extremity function of MS I to III in HS tasks were most challenging. We conclude that the introduced approach is a valuable tool for gauging movement limitation of upper limbs in patients with obstetric brachial plexus palsy. Compared to other clinically established methods, it becomes possible to record and even quantify the extent of compensatory movements. In this way, an objective, user- and patient-friendly method is offered, which supports significantly physicians and therapists in their evaluation of OBPP.

Abstract: BackgroundPulmonary hypertension (PH) can occur as a complication of schistosomiasis. In humans, schistosomiasis-PH persists despite antihelminthic therapy and parasite eradication. We hypothesized that persistent disease arises as a consequence of exposure repetition.MethodsFollowing intraperitoneal sensitization, mice were experimentally exposed to Schistosoma eggs by intravenous injection, either once or three times repeatedly. The phenotype was characterized by right heart catheterization and tissue analysis.ResultsFollowing intraperitoneal sensitization, a single intravenous Schistosoma egg exposure resulted in a PH phenotype that peaked at 7-14 days, followed by spontaneous resolution. Three sequential exposures resulted in a persistent PH phenotype. Inflammatory cytokines were not significantly different between mice exposed to one or three egg doses, but there was an increase in perivascular fibrosis in those who received three egg doses. Significant perivascular fibrosis was also observed in autopsy specimens from patients who died of this condition.ConclusionsRepeatedly exposing mice to schistosomiasis causes a persistent PH phenotype, accompanied by perivascular fibrosis. Perivascular fibrosis may contribute to the persistent schistosomiasis-PH observed in humans with this disease.

Abstract: The effect of environmental and genetic effects on the farrowing interval in Dalland (C-40) sows in the Southeast of Brazil was studied. Data consisting of 1,013 farrowing intervals recorded in two herds were analyzed, using a model that included the sire and the dam as random effects and the year of farrowing, the herd and the farrowing season as fixed effects, plus the covariables sow's age at farrowing, litter size at birth, lactation length and weaning-estrus interval. For the farrowing interval first only, variance components were estimated by REML, with an animal model that included, as fixed effect, a contemporary group and, as random effects, the additive genetic variance and the error. The mean farrowing interval was 140.9+5.7 days, with a 4.0% coefficient of variation. Variance analysis showed no effect of either year, season of farrowing or herd on the farrowing interval. The sire effect was not important for the farrowing interval, but the dam represented an important source of variation. The total number of piglets born and the sow's age at farrowing had no influence on the farrowing interval. The length of lactation exerted an influence on the farrowing interval, accounting for 19.4% of the total variation of this trait. Likewise, the linear regression of the weaning-estrus interval in relation to the farrowing interval was highly significant, accounting for 51.7% of the total variation. The heritability estimate was 0.00, suggesting that no genetic gain can be obtained by selection for a shorter farrowing interval.

La ardilla roja (Sciurus vulgaris), que estaba extinta en Portugal desde el s. XVI, fue reintroducida en varios parques urbanos en la década de los años 90, principalmente con fines estéticos y recreativos. Evaluamos la eficacia de esta reintroducción en dos parques urbanos y describimos los pasos fundamentales de la misma. Se evaluaron la utilización del hábitat, la densidad y abundancia de la población y las medidas de gestión adoptadas durante los proyectos de reintroducción. Las reintroducciones fueron relativamente eficaces dado a que las ardillas seguían presentes 20 años después de la liberación. No obstante, las poblaciones en ambos parques están disminuyendo debido a la falta de una gestión activa y a la mala calidad del hábitat. La reintroducción eficaz de la ardilla roja en zonas donde no hay ardillas arborícolas exóticas conlleva tres etapas fundamentales. La etapa previa al proyecto comprende estudios sobre la calidad del hábitat; la proximidad genética entre los donantes y la población silvestre más cercana, y la salud de las poblaciones donantes. En la etapa de liberación, el número de individuos liberados dependerá de la variabilidad de los recursos disponibles; asimismo, se ha observado que la técnica de liberación dura es un método eficaz y viable desde el punto de vista económico. Las actividades posteriores a la liberación deberían analizar la adaptación, mitigar la mortalidad, hacer un seguimiento de la necesidad de aportar alimentación complementaria, prestar apoyo veterinario y fomentar la sensibilización pública y la educación.

En este trabajo se evaluó el potencial que tienen las egagrópilas del aguilucho lagunero (Circus aeruginosus) como un método no invasivo para estudiar las comunidades de pequeños mamíferos, mediante la comparación de los resultados con los obtenidos en las trampas de tipo Sherman y las de caída (pitfall). Los tres métodos se utilizaron simultáneamente en un complejo formado por tierras agrícolas y humedales en el noroeste de Portugal. Las estimaciones de la riqueza, la diversidad, la uniformidad y la abundancia de especies y la proporción de cada una de ellas dentro de la comunidad mostraron diferencias significativas entre los tres métodos. Nuestros resultados sugieren que la utilización de las egagrópilas del aguilucho lagunero es más eficaz para inventariar las especies de pequeños mamíferos que cualquiera de los dos tipos de trampas, al mismo tiempo que evita la muerte involuntaria de animales asociada con el muestreo de pequeños mamíferos no voladores. Además, el análisis de las egagrópilas fue el método más rentable. Entre los dos métodos de captura, la muerte involuntaria de animales fue mayor en las trampas de caída que en las trampas de tipo Sherman. Se discuten las ventajas y los inconvenientes de los tres métodos tanto desde una perspectiva técnica como conservacionista.

In this constructive solution, the insulation is placed over the waterproofing material as a protection. It is believed that this solution provides a longer life cycle; given the fact that it limits the thermal variation the waterproofing material bears up to the end of its life cycle. Consequently, the result will be providing a longer life to the waterproofing membrane. This constructive solution always incorporates polymers or other materials with a thermoplastic addition in their composition. Some polymers show interactions between them that can affect their integrity, and, at the same time, the bulk of the polymeric materials are incompatible. The extruded polystyrene board is always present in the inverted flat roof, and although it is an unbeatable product for this use, it presents incompatibilities and interactions with other materials, and these can affect their properties and therefore the durability of them.

Para resolver este sesgo, recientemente se han elaborado modelos de captura y recaptura espacialmente explícitos (SECR). Estos modelos incorporan el movimiento y pueden determinar las zonas en la que es más probable que los individuos concentren su actividad. En el presente estudio, utilizamos datos obtenidos con cámaras de trampeo en estudios sobre la jineta común (Genetta genetta) en Serra da Malcata (Portugal) concebidos para comparar las estimaciones de abundancia producidas por los modelos de SECR y los modelos tradicionales de captura para una población cerrada. Utilizando los modelos de SECR, observamos la existencia de heterogeneidad espacial en la distribución de la jineta y las estimaciones de la densidad fueron aproximadamente dos veces inferiores a las obtenidas en los modelos para poblaciones cerradas. Las estimaciones del modelo no espacial se limitaron al tamaño de la cuadrícula de muestreo y probablemente infravaloraron los movimientos, lo que conllevaría que se sobreestimara la densidad. Los estudios futuros deberían sopesar la incorporación de modelos de carga–distancia que puedan incluir hipótesis explícitas sobre la forma en que las variables medioambientales influyen en la métrica de la distancia.

18. The Role of Disk Tearing and Precession in the Observed Variability of Pleione

Abstract: We acquired H$\alpha$ spectroscopic observations from 2005 to 2019 showing Pleione has transitioned from a Be phase to a Be-shell phase during this period. Using the radiative transfer code \hdust\ we created a grid of $\sim100,000$ disk models for Pleione. We successfully reproduced the observed transition with a disk model that varies in inclination while maintaining an equatorial density of $\rho_0(r) = 3\times 10^{-11} (r/R_{eq})^{-2.7}~\rm{g~cm^{-3}}$, and an H$\alpha$ emitting region extending to $15~\rm{R_{eq}}$. We use a precessing disk model to extrapolate the changing disk inclination over $120$ years and follow the variability in archival observations. The best-fit disk model precesses over a line of sight inclination between $\sim25\rm{^{\circ}}$ and $\sim144\rm{^{\circ}}$ with a precessional period of $\sim80.5$ years. Our precessing models match some of the observed variability but fail to reproduce all of the historical data available. Therefore, we propose an ad-hoc model based on our precessing disk model inspired by recent SPH simulations of similar systems, where the disk tears due to the tidal influence of a companion star. In this model, a single disk is slowly tilted to an angle of $30^{\circ}$ from the stellar equator over $34$ years. Then, the disk is torn by the companion's tidal torque, with the outer region separating from the innermost disk. The small inner disk returns to the stellar equator as mass injection remains constant. The outer disk precesses for $\sim15$ years before gradually dissipating. 21. Chondrogenesis of Adipose-Derived Stem Cells Using an Arrayed Spheroid Format

Abstract: The chondrogenic response of adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) is often assessed using 3D micromass protocols that use upwards of hundreds of thousands of cells. Scaling these systems up for high-throughput testing is technically challenging and wasteful given the necessary cell numbers and reagent volumes. However, adopting microscale spheroid cultures for this purpose shows promise. Spheroid systems work with only thousands of cells and microliters of medium.Molded agarose microwells were fabricated using 2% w/v molten agarose and then equilibrated in medium prior to introducing cells. ASCs were seeded at 50, 500, 5k cells/microwell; 5k, 50k, cells/well plate; and 50k and 250k cells/15 mL centrifuge tube to compare chondrogenic responses across spheroid and micromass sizes. Cells were cultured in control or chondrogenic induction media. ASCs coalesced into spheroids/pellets and were cultured at 37 °C and 5% COAll culture conditions supported growth of ASCs and formation of viable cell spheroids/micromasses. More robust growth was observed in chondrogenic conditions. Sulfated glycosaminoglycans and collagen II, molecules characteristics of chondrogenesis, were prevalent in both 5000-cell spheroids and 250,000-cell micromasses. Deposition of collagen I, characteristic of fibrocartilage, was more prevalent in the large micromasses than small spheroids.Chondrogenic differentiation was consistently induced using high-throughput spheroid formats, particularly when seeding at cell densities of 5000 cells/spheroid. Abstract: COVID-19 was responsible for devastating social, economic, and political effects all over the world. Although the health authorities imposed restrictions provided relief and assisted with trying to return society to normal life, it is imperative to monitor people’s behavior and risk factors to keep virus transmission levels as low as possible. This article focuses on the application of deep learning algorithms to detect the presence of masks on people in public spaces (using RGB cameras), as well as the detection of the caruncle in the human eye area to make an accurate measurement of body temperature (using thermal cameras). For this task, synthetic data generation techniques were used to create hybrid datasets from public ones to train state-of-the-art algorithms, such as YOLOv5 object detector and a keypoint detector based on Resnet-50. For RGB mask detection, YOLOv5 achieved an average precision of 82.4%. For thermal masks, glasses, and caruncle detection, YOLOv5 and keypoint detector achieved an average precision of 96.65% and 78.7%, respectively. Moreover, RGB and thermal datasets were made publicly available.

The development of these polysaccharides as new drugs involves several important steps, among them, demonstration of the effectiveness of these compounds after oral administration. The oral route is the more practical, comfortable and preferred by patients for long-term treatments. In the past 20 years, reports of various pharmacological effects of these polysaccharides orally administered in several animal experimental models and some trials in humans have sparked the possibility for the development of drugs based on sulfated polysaccharides and/or the use of these marine organisms as functional food. This review focuses on the main pharmacological effects of sulfated fucose-rich polysaccharides, with an emphasis on the antidislipidemic, immunomodulatory, antitumor, hypoglycemic and hemostatic effects.

Abstract: Resumo: A obra de Paulo Freire é bastante lembrada a partir de trabalhos centrais no conjunto de suas produções, a exemplo de "Pedagogia do oprimido"; "Professora sim, tia não"; "Pedagogia da esperança" e "Pedagogia da autonomia", além de diversos outros títulos de sua autoria não menos importantes, porém, nem tão exitosos em termos de edições, traduções e publicações em outros países. Ademais, uma espécie de jargão freireano tem como fonte "Pedagogia do oprimido", a exemplo das expressões opressor, oprimido, educação bancária e educação libertadora. Em contraposição a essa fama vinda do início dos anos 1970, o propósito deste artigo é demonstrar que alguns conceitos e termos importantes como democracia, personalidade democrática, organicidade, fase de trânsito e rachadura foram elaborados por Paulo Freire em textos de sua juventude intelectual e que, além disso, foram importantes por contribuírem com as primeiras camadas de conceituação para obras que registraram a estabilização de alguns princípios importantes e constantes de Pedagogia do oprimido. Para tanto, foram tomadas como fonte uma série de artigos assinados por Paulo Freire e publicados no Diário de Pernambuco, em 1957, bem como sua tese doutoral "Educação e atualidade brasileira", de 1959, e "Educação como prática da liberdade", de 1967, com indicação em prefácio de elaboração em 1965. In addition, a kind of Freirean jargon has as its source "Pedagogy of the oppressed", using expressions like oppressor, oppressed, banking model of education and liberating education. In contrast to this fame built in the early 1970s, the purpose of this article is to demonstrate that some important concepts and terms such as democracy, democratic personality, organicity, transit phase and crack were elaborated by Paulo Freire in his early texts, which were important for contributing to the first layers of conceptualization for works that consolidate some important principles of Pedagogy of the oppressed. Abstract: Incongruent beliefs about self-localization in space markedly disturb patients' behavior. Spatial delusions, or reduplicative paramnesias, are characterized by a firm conviction of place reduplication, transformation, or mislocation. Evidence suggests they are frequent after right hemisphere lesions, but comprehensive information about their clinical features is lacking.We prospectively screened 504 acute right-hemisphere stroke patients for the presence of spatial delusions. Their behavioral and clinical features were systematically assessed. Then, we analyzed the correlation of their duration with the magnitude of structural disruption of belief-associated functional networks. Finally, we described the syndrome subtypes and evaluated whether the clinical categorization would be predicted by the structural disruption of familiarity-associated functional networks using an unsupervised k-means clustering algorithm.Sixty patients with spatial delusions were identified and fully characterized. Most (93%) localized the misidentified places closer to home than the hospital. The median time duration was 3 days (interquartile range = 1-7 days), and it was moderately correlated with the magnitude of structural-functional decoupling of belief-associated functional networks (r = 0.39, p = 0.02; beta coefficient regressing for lesion volume = 3.18, p = 0.04). Each clinical subtype had characteristic response patterns, which were reported, and representative examples were provided. Clustering based on structural disruption of familiarity- and unfamiliarity-associated functional networks poorly matched the clinical categorization (lesion: Rand index = 0.47; structural disconnection: Rand index = 0.51).The systematic characterization of the peculiar clinical features of stroke-associated spatial delusions may improve the syndrome diagnosis and clinical approaches. The novel evidence about their neural correlates fosters the clarification of the pathophysiology of delusional misidentifications.

Nesse sentido, este artigo objetiva problematizar o eixo comum que confere sentido às permanentes reformas educacionais promovidas no Brasil. Para tanto, pautamo-nos em uma investigação qualitativa amparada em pesquisa bibliográfica e documental. Consideramos que a reestruturação do mundo do trabalho, ressalvadas as particularidades dos respectivos contextos históricos, é uma questão presente no Manifesto dos Pioneiros, nas reformas Capanema, na teoria do capital humano e, mais recentemente, na Lei de Diretrizes de Bases da Educação Nacional, de 1996, e na Lei 13.415/2017, bem como na Base Nacional Comum Curricular do Ensino Médio. Desse modo, a busca pela superação da dependência econômica agroexportadora por meio da industrialização e as metamorfoses mais recentes do trabalho implicam a criação de uma força de trabalho correlata, o que enseja um modelo de ensino tecnicista condizente ao mercado de emprego. As reformas, portanto, como será discutido no presente artigo, coadunam-se ao pragmatismo educacional típico do ensino dual, cujo desafio de contra tendência implica pensar a escola como ambiente indispensável com vistas à formação humana plena.

Abstract: In the context of Shared Autonomous Vehicles, the need to monitor the environment inside the car will be crucial. This article focuses on the application of deep learning algorithms to present a fusion monitoring solution which was three different algorithms: a violent action detection system, which recognizes violent behaviors between passengers, a violent object detection system, and a lost items detection system. Public datasets were used for object detection algorithms (COCO and TAO) to train state-of-the-art algorithms such as YOLOv5. For violent action detection, the MoLa InCar dataset was used to train on state-of-the-art algorithms such as I3D, R(2+1)D, SlowFast, TSN, and TSM. Finally, an embedded automotive solution was used to demonstrate that both methods are running in real-time.

Abstract: This study investigates the osteogenic differentiation of umbilical-cord-derived human mesenchymal stromal cells (hUC-MSCs) on biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) scaffolds derived from cuttlefish bone doped with metal ions and coated with polymers. First, the in vitro cytocompatibility of the undoped and ion-doped (Sr2+, Mg2+ and/or Zn2+) BCP scaffolds was evaluated for 72 h using Live/Dead staining and viability assays. From these tests, the most promising composition was found to be the BCP scaffold doped with strontium (Sr2+), magnesium (Mg2+) and zinc (Zn2+) (BCP-6Sr2Mg2Zn). Then, samples from the BCP-6Sr2Mg2Zn were coated with poly(ԑ-caprolactone) (PCL) or poly(ester urea) (PEU). The results showed that hUC-MSCs can differentiate into osteoblasts, and hUC-MSCs seeded on the PEU-coated scaffolds proliferated well, adhered to the scaffold surfaces, and enhanced their differentiation capabilities without negative effects on cell proliferation under in vitro conditions. Overall, these results suggest that PEU-coated scaffolds are an alternative to PCL for use in bone regeneration, providing a suitable environment to maximally induce osteogenesis.

Abstract: Chronic Venous Disorders (CVD) of the lower limbs are one of the most prevalent medical conditions, affecting 35% of adults in Europe and North America. Due to the exponential growth of the aging population and the worsening of CVD with age, it is expected that the healthcare costs and the resources needed for the treatment of CVD will increase in the coming years. The early diagnosis of CVD is fundamental in treatment planning, while the monitoring of its treatment is fundamental to assess a patient’s condition and quantify the evolution of CVD. However, correct diagnosis relies on a qualitative approach through visual recognition of the various venous disorders, being time-consuming and highly dependent on the physician’s expertise. In this paper, we propose a novel automatic strategy for the joint segmentation and classification of CVDs. The strategy relies on a multi-task deep learning network, denominated VENet, that simultaneously solves segmentation and classification tasks, exploiting the information of both tasks to increase learning efficiency, ultimately improving their performance. The proposed method was compared against state-of-the-art strategies in a dataset of 1376 CVD images. Experiments showed that the VENet achieved a classification performance of 96.4%, 96.4%, and 97.2% for accuracy, precision, and recall, respectively, and a segmentation performance of 75.4%, 76.7.0%, 76.7% for the Dice coefficient, precision, and recall, respectively. The joint formulation increased the robustness of both tasks when compared to the conventional classification or segmentation strategies, proving its added value, mainly for the segmentation of small lesions.

Abstract: Online judges (OJ) are a popular tool to support programming learning. However, one major issue with OJs is that problems are often put together without any associated meta-information that could, for example, be used to help classify problems. This meta-information could be extremely valuable to help users quickly find what types of problems they need most. To face this problem, several OJ administrators have recently begun manually annotating the topics of problems based on computer science-related subjects, such as dynamic programming, graphs, and data structures. Initially, these topics were used to support programming competitions and experienced learners. However, with OJs being increasingly used to support CS1 classes, such topic annotation needs to be extended to suit CS1 learners and instructors. In this work, for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, we propose and validate a predictive model that can automatically detect fine-grained topics of problems based on the CS1 syllabus. After experimenting with many shallow and deep learning models with different word representations based on cutting-edge NLP techniques, our best model is a CNN, achieving an F1-score of 88.9%. We then present how our model can be used for various applications, including (i) facilitating the search process of problems for CS1 learners and instructors and (ii) how it can be integrated into a system to recommend problems in OJs.

Abstract: Introduction: Lesions of the salivary glands are uncommon, representing 2% to 6.5% of all neoplasms of head and neck, and because of the difference in treatment between them, an accurate diagnosis is essential. The cytological study by fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy is a highly accurate method used to diagnose lesions of the salivary glands. Intraoperative consultation (IOC), in its turn, is a test that provides diagnosis during surgery, aiming to differentiate malignant from benign lesions and to enable the most appropriate surgical approach. Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of IOC in salivary gland lesions. Material and methods: A survey was conducted in the database of Instituto Nacional de Câncer (Inca) into IOC for diagnosis of salivary gland lesions from January 2001 to December 2012, and found 748 cases. Diagnosis made at IOC (IOCD) was compared with the gold standard histopathological diagnosis and classified into: 1) consenting; 2) discordant; and 3) indeterminate. From these data, sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were calculated. Results: Among the 748 IOCs, results were concordant in 656 cases (88%), discordant in 56 (7%), and indeterminate in 36 (5%). Sensitivity was 78%, specificity 99% and accuracy 92%. Conclusion: Our results indicate that IOC in salivary gland lesions is highly accurate and can contribute to the surgical approach.

Abstract: Mussels secrete protein-based byssal threads to tether to rocks, ships, and other organisms underwater. The secreted marine mussel adhesive proteins (MAPs) contain the peculiar amino acid L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA), whose catechol group content contributes greatly to their outstanding adhesive properties. Inspired by such mussel bioadhesion, we demonstrate that catechol-modified polysaccharides can be used to obtain adhesive membranes using the compaction of polyelectrolyte complexes (CoPEC) method. It is a simple and versatile approach that uses polyelectrolyte complexes as building blocks that coalesce and dry as membrane constructs simply as a result of sedimentation and mild temperature. We used two natural and biocompatible polymers: chitosan (CHI) as a polycation and hyaluronic acid (HA) as a polyanion. The CoPEC technique also allowed the entrapment of ternary bioactive glass nanoparticles to stimulate mineralization. Moreover, combinations of these polymers modified with catechol groups were made to enhance the adhesive properties of the assembled membranes. Extensive physico-chemical characterization was performed to investigate the successful production of composite CoPEC membranes in terms of surface morphology, wettability, stability, mechanical performance, in vitro bioactivity, and cellular behavior. 37. Training Effects on the Stress Predictors for Young Lusitano Horses Used in Dressage

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate stressful responses during a 6-week training protocol in young Lusitano horses used for dressage. The hypothesis was that the proposed training protocol would improve fitness and ensure the welfare of the animals by reducing stress predictors. Nine 4-year-old horses were evaluated before (M1) and six weeks after (M2) beginning a training protocol. The training program was performed six times per week and included 40–80 min of individually intensity-adjusted preparatory exercises for dressage. For both moments, the horses were examined before (T0) and after (T1) dressage simulation tests (DST), and at 30 (T2) and 240 min (T3) during the recovery period. Blood samples were taken to determine the horses’ cortisol levels, total WBC, and neutrophil and lymphocyte counts. All variables were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey tests, with p ≤ 0.05. After training, there was a significant reduction in cortisol (p = 0.0133), HR (p = 0.0283), total WBC (p < 0.0001), and neutrophil (p < 0.0001) and lymphocyte (p = 0.0341) counts. Other findings included an increase in HRV parameters related to a cardiac vagal modulation. In conclusion, the chosen training protocol led to better fitness as the horses worked more intensively with lower cardiovascular requirements, and they showed blunted cortisol responses at M2. Such data can be used to evaluate performance, but also to predict the welfare of athletic horses.

38. Predictors of left ventricular dysfunction in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: results from a nationwide registry

Abstract: Introduction Progression of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) with incident left ventricular (LV) dysfunction (HCM-LVSD) is associated with poor prognosis and advanced heart failure (HF). Prevalence ranges from 5–10% in previous studies. Identification of predictors of adverse remodeling may improve risk stratification and prognostication in HCM. Purpose To identify predictors of HCM-LVSD in a nationwide cohort of HCM patients (pts). Methods Retrospective study including all HCM pts enrolled in a European country-based nationwide registry. HCM-LVSD group included pts with LV ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤50% at baseline and pts who developed LV dysfunction/dilated phenotype during follow-up. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify predictors of HCM-LVSD. Results 1042 HCM patients (57.8% male, mean age at diagnosis 52 years) were included, of whom 81 (8%) belonged to the HCM-LVSD group. HCM-LVSD pts were mostly male (60.5%) and tended to be older at the time of diagnosis than those without LVSD (55 vs 52 years, p=0.054). HCM-LVSD pts were more often symptomatic at the index visit (84.1% vs 65.2%, p After multivariate analysis, higher LA volume (odds ratio [OR] 1.03, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.01–1.05, p=0.003) and nonobstructive HCM (OR 2.74, 95% CI 1.03–7.27, p=0.043) were independent predictors of HCM-LVSD. Conclusions In this large nationwide cohort of HCM pts, prevalence of LVSD was 8%, in line with existing literature. 39. Representativeness of EXPLORER-HCM trial and prevalence of eligibility criteria for Mavacamten in a nationwide cohort

Abstract: Introduction The EXPLORER-HCM trial evaluated the safety and efficacy of Mavacamten, a cardiac myosin inhibitor, in symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Mavacamten improved symptoms, exercise capacity and left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction. However, the proportion of patients eligible for this therapy in real practice remains unclear. Purpose To determine the prevalence of eligibility criteria for Mavacamten and to describe the profile of patients complying with EXPLORER-HCM criteria in a nationwide cohort. Methods Cross-sectional study including all HCM patients enrolled in a European country-based nationwide registry. Presence of EXPLORER-HCM inclusion [≥18 years, obstructive HCM (LVOT gradient ≥50 mmHg), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≥55%, New York Heart Association (NYHA) class II–III] and exclusion criteria [syncope or sustained ventricular tachycardia with exercise] were analyzed. Results Of 1042 patients included in this analysis (57.8% male, mean age at diagnosis 52 years, 39.6% obstructive HCM), 45 met the EXPLORER-HCM inclusion criteria and, after applying exclusion criteria, 30 patients were eligible for therapy with Mavacamten. Eligible patients were all Caucasian, mostly female (63.3%), with a mean age at diagnosis of 58±14 years. All patients presented with heart failure symptoms, and were mostly in NYHA class II (83.3%); 4 patients (13.3%) presented with atrial fibrillation. In the baseline echocardiogram, mean LVEF was 68±9%; mean interventricular septum thickness was 20±4 mm; most patients presented with systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve (96.7%) and mitral regurgitation (96.7%). In cardiac magnetic resonance imaging evaluation, maximal wall thickness was 22±4 mm and 76.9% had late gadolinium enhancement. A pathogenic or likely pathogenic HCM gene variant was identified in 5 patients (MYH7 and MYBPC3 gene mutations). In this group, 86.2% of patients were treated with beta-blockers and 34.5% with calcium channel antagonists. Only 1 patient was on Disopyramide. Septal reduction techniques were used in 43.3% of patients: alcohol septal ablation and septal myectomy were performed in 7 (23.3%) and 6 (20.0%) patients, respectively. Cardioverter-defibrillators were implanted in 2 patients for primary prevention of sudden cardiac death, and 6 patients received a pacemaker for bradycardia indications. Conclusion Specific therapies remain an unmet need in HCM. In this large nationwide cohort, only 2.9% of patients were eligible for therapy with Mavacamten according to EXPLORER-HCM criteria. Among patients complying with the study criteria, invasive septal reduction therapies were offered to a high proportion of patients. 40. High-pressure phase relations in the system Fe–Ni–Cu–S up to 14 GPa: implications for the stability of sulfides in the earth’s upper mantle

Abstract: Base metal sulfides (Fe–Ni–Cu–S) are ubiquitous phases in mantle and subduction-related lithologies. Sulfides in the mantle often melt incongruently, which leads to the production of a Cu–Ni-rich sulfide melt and leaves a solid residue called monosulfide solid solution (mss). However, the persistence of crystalline sulfide phases like mss in the Earth’s mantle at higher temperatures and pressures deep within the Earth has long been up for debate, as the presence of both mss and sulfide melt in mantle rocks implies the fractionation of chalcophile elements during mantle melting. Recent studies have shown that the average mantle sulfide (45 wt.% Fe, 16 wt.% Ni, 1 wt.% Cu, and 38 wt.% S), is fully molten at average mantle potential temperatures (1300–1400 $$^{\circ }$$ ∘ C) up to 8 GPa (ca. 240 km). However, sulfide inclusions found in diamonds show a broad compositional spectrum, ranging from Ni-poor and Fe-rich (eclogitic), to Ni-rich and Fe-poor sulfides (peridotitic), with their Cu contents being generally low. The wide compositional variety of diamond-hosted sulfide inclusions raises the possibility that results on the melting properties obtained from this average mantle sulfide compositional may not reflect that found in those inclusions. As such, further investigation of the melting properties of sulfides from a wide compositional range is necessary. Here, we present the results of an experimental study where the melting properties of typical sulfide compositions found in diamond inclusions associated with eclogites and peridotites have been determined. Experiments have been carried out between 0.1 MPa and 14 GPa, and between 920 and 1590 $$^{\circ }$$ ∘ C, on box muffle furnaces, end-loaded piston cylinder, and multi-anvil apparatuses. Results show that solid mss in Fe-rich, Ni-poor sulfide inclusions associated with eclogites persist to higher pressures and temperatures compared to their less-refractory, more Ni-rich peridotitic counterparts to the depth of the mantle transition zone (410 km depth). Our results have implications for the recycling of chalcophile elements during subduction-related processes and the entrapment of sulfides in diamonds.

Abstract: In this study, interfacial segregation in Cl−-doped ZnO (0.0, 1.0, 3.0, 4.0, and 6.0 mol%) was explored as a strategy to compensate the space charge layer to decrease the electric potential barrier height at the grain boundaries and increase the overall electrical conductivity of the system. The focus of this work was to evaluate the dopant segregation and provide the first insights into the influence of interfacial segregation on the electrical properties. By using a systematic lixiviation method, we demonstrated that in addition to the bulk solubility, the Cl− anions segregated at both the surface and grain boundaries. Impedance spectroscopy measurements showed a four orders of magnitude reduction in the total electrical resistivity in the Cl−-doped ZnO samples compared to that of undoped ZnO. The calculated value of the electric potential barrier height decreased, as well as the activation energy for conduction, which decreased from 853 meV for undoped ZnO to 168 meV for 1.2 mol% Cl−-doped ZnO.

Abstract: Landmark labeling in 3D head surfaces is an important and routine task in clinical practice to evaluate head shape, namely to analyze cranial deformities or growth evolution. However, manual labeling is still applied, being a tedious and time-consuming task, highly prone to intra-/inter-observer variability, and can mislead the diagnose. Thus, automatic methods for anthropometric landmark detection in 3D models have a high interest in clinical practice. In this paper, a novel framework is proposed to accurately detect landmarks in 3D infant’s head surfaces. The proposed method is divided into two stages: (i) 2D representation of the 3D head surface; and (ii) landmark detection through a deep learning strategy. Moreover, a 3D data augmentation method to create shape models based on the expected head variability is proposed. The proposed framework was evaluated in synthetic and real datasets, achieving accurate detection results. Furthermore, the data augmentation strategy proved its added value, increasing the method’s performance. 46. Metal Saturated Cumulates from Siberia — Lunar Basalt Analogues?

Abstract: It is not well known which chemical differentiation pathways basaltic melts will take when they are iron metal saturated. Thermodynamically, the pathway seems predictable. So long as Fe metal is a stable liquidus phase and relative oxygen fugacity (fO2) is not subject to major fluctuations, the activity of FeO (aFeOmelt) is buffered by the iron–wüstite (IW) equilibrium 2Femetal + O2 → 2FeOmelt. Metallic Fe also stabilizes olivine through the equilibrium 2Femetal + O2 + SiO2 melt → Fe2SiO4 olivine. That equilibrium tends to suppress the enrichment in bulk SiO2 when Fe saturated basaltic melts differentiate. We document the differentiation history of tholeiitic cumulates from the Siberian craton that carry up to 30 modal % metallic Fe. Our study is complemented by differentiation experiments at two redox states, one set in Fe metal capsules at 1.6 log units below IW (IW-1.6) and a second set in graphite capsules at IW + 1.5. Iron saturated differentiation pathways do not show enrichments in FeO nor in bulk SiO2 because olivine remains stable along the entire liquid line of descent. By contrast, melts equilibrated at IW + 1.5, that is, outside metallic Fe saturation, crystallize pigeonite as first silicate and follow a normal (terrestrial) differentiation pathway involving marked SiO2 enrichment. The Fe-saturated path duplicates in detail the liquid line of descent we derive for the cumulates. Iron-saturated experiments have limited applicability to the Earth because there are so few terrestrial basalts saturated with metallic Fe; however, they might apply to the Moon. Many lunar basalts appear to have been saturated with an Fe-Ni phase during their emplacement on the lunar surface, and potentially during generation within the lunar mantle.

47. Redox-dependent Ti stable isotope fractionation on the Moon: implications for current lunar magma ocean models

Abstract: In terrestrial magmas titanium is predominantly tetravalent (Ti4+), in contrast, lunar magmas are more reduced (IW-1) and hence approximately 10% of their bulk Ti content is trivalent (Ti3+). Changes in oxidation state and coordination number are both important parameters that can serve to drive Ti stable isotope fractionation. As such, mineral–mineral and mineral-melt Ti stable isotope fractionation factors determined for terrestrial samples may not be appropriate for lunar samples that formed under more reducing conditions. To address this issue, several experiments were carried out in gas mixing furnaces over a range offO2(air to IW-1) to determine Ti stable isotope fractionation factors for minerals, such as ilmenite, clinopyroxene and rutile that are highly abundant on the Moon. Results show that the extent of Ti stable isotope fractionation significantly increases with decreasingfO2. For example, the isotopic difference between ilmenite and residual melt (Δ49Tiilmenite-melt) is resolvably lower by ~ 0.44 ‰ from terrestrial-like FMQ-0.5 to lunar-like IW-1 at an intermediate precision of ± 0.003 ‰ (95% c.i. OL–Ti). This confirms that fractionation factors determined for terrestrial conditions are indeed not applicable to lunar settings. Our new fractionation factors for ilmenite, clinopyroxene and silicate melt are mostly consistent with those previously determined by ab initio modelling based on density-functional theory. Using our new experimental data in conjunction with previously published high-precision HFSE data and Ti stable isotope data of lunar basalts, we modelled the solidification of the Lunar Magma Ocean (LMO). The model for LMO solidification included fractionation of Ti stable isotopes not only by Ti-oxides, but also by typical lunar silicate minerals as pyroxene or olivine. The resulting δ49Ti for urKREEP and ilmenite-bearing cumulates are within error of previous estimates, but also indicate that ilmenite-bearing cumulates must have contained around 15% ilmenite.

48. TOWARDS SUPPORTING CS1 INSTRUCTORS AND LEARNERS WITH FINE-GRAINED TOPIC DETECTION IN ONLINE JUDGES

Abstract: Online judges (OJs) are a popular tool to support programming learning. However, one major issue with OJs is that problems are often put together without any associated meta-information that could, for example, be used to help classify problems. This meta-information could be extremely valuable to help users quickly find what types of problems they need most. To face this problem, several OJ administrators have recently begun manually annotating the topics of problems based on computer science-related subjects, such as dynamic programming, graphs, and data structures. Initially, the topics were used to support programming competitions and experienced learners. However, with OJs increasingly used to support CS1 classes, such topic annotation needs to be extended to suit CS1 learners and instructors. In this work, for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, we propose and validate a predictive model that can automatically detect fine-grained topics of problems based on the CS1 syllabus. After experimenting with many shallow and deep learning models with different word representations based on cutting-edge NLP techniques, our best model is a CNN, achieving an F1-score of 88.9%. We then present how our model can be used for various applications, including (i) facilitating the search process of problems for CS1 learners and instructors and (ii) how it can be integrated into a system to recommend problems in OJs.

Abstract: The emergence and global dissemination of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants of concern (VOCs) have been described as the main factor driving the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic. In Brazil, the Gamma variant dominated the epidemiological scenario during the first period of 2021. Many Brazilian regions detected the Delta variant after its first description and documented its spread. To monitor the introduction and spread of VOC Delta, we performed Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) genotyping and genome sequencing in ten regional sentinel units from June to October 2021 in the State of Minas Gerais (MG). We documented the introduction and spread of Delta, comprising 70 per cent of the cases 8 weeks later. Comparing the viral loads of the Gamma and Delta dominance periods, we provide additional evidence that the latter is more transmissible. The spread and dominance of Delta did not culminate in the increase in cases and deaths, suggesting that the vaccination may have restrained the epidemic growth. Analysis of 224 novel Delta genomes revealed that Rio de Janeiro state was the primary source for disseminating this variant in the state of MG. We present the establishment of Delta, providing evidence of its enhanced transmissibility and showing that this variant shift did not aggravate the epidemiological scenario in a high immunity setting.

Abstract: The use of renewable energy such as photovoltaic is growing. According to IRENA, these systems are one of the most dynamic generation technologies. The global photovoltaic market has grown rapidly between 2000 and 2016 at an annual average compound rate of 44%, from 0.8 GW to 291 GW. In Colombia, regions with high solar irradiation levels have been identified as emerging markets. The Government's plan is to increase the share of non-conventional energies in the energy matrix from 2% to 8% - 10%. However, the uncertainties associated with technology and sites specific degradation rates make it difficult to calculate accurate electricity generation efficiencies and predicting future performance and material degradation rates, and thus business models exhibit considerable deviations related to the real electricity generation rates. This work studies the performance and early degradation of a 180.8 kWp rooftop on grid connected photovoltaic system, installed in Barranquilla, Colombia. Two methods were used: i) estimation of solar conversion efficiency, and ii) visual inspection. The first method includes a cross analysis of climatic conditions, irradiance levels, and the generated energy downstream the inverters. The second method consists of periodical visual inspections of installed modules to check: discoloration, delamination, busbar corrosion, cracking of solar cell, glass breakage, anti-reflection coating and solder bond. RESUMEN El uso de recursos de energía renovable está creciendo, especialmente la energía solar fotovoltaica. Según IRENA, los sistemas solares fotovoltaicos son una de las tecnologías de generación de energía renovable más dinámicas. El mercado mundial de energía fotovoltaica ha crecido rápidamente entre 2000 y 2016, mostrando una tasa compuesta anual promedio de 44%, de 0.8 GW a 291 GW. En Colombia, las regiones con altos niveles de irradiación solar han sido identificadas como mercados emergentes en este tipo de energía. El plan del Gobierno es aumentar la participación de energías no convencionales en la matriz energética del 2% al 8% y 10%. Sin embargo, las incertidumbres asociadas con las tasas de degradación específicas de la tecnología y los sitios dificultan el cálculo de las eficiencias de generación de electricidad precisas y la predicción del rendimiento futuro y las tasas de degradación de materiales, y por lo tanto los modelos de negocios exhiben desviaciones considerables con respecto a las tasas de generación de electricidad reales. El objetivo de nuestro trabajo es estudiar el rendimiento y la degradación temprana de un techo de 180.8 kWp en un sistema fotovoltaico conectado a la red, instalado en Barranquilla, ciudad ubicada en el norte de Colombia. Se utilizaron dos métodos para evaluar el rendimiento y la degradación temprana: i) Estimación de la eficiencia de conversión solar y ii) inspección visual. El primer método incluye un análisis cruzado entre las condiciones climáticas, los niveles de irradiancia y la energía generada por los inversores aguas abajo. El segundo método consiste en inspecciones visuales periódicas de los módulos instalados para observar si hay alguno de los siguientes modos de degradación: decoloración, delaminación, corrosión de la barra colectora, grietas de la célula solar, rotura de vidrio, revestimiento antirreflectante y unión por soldadura.
