Objective: Work performed outside of standard working hours is considered shift work. Shift work is beneficial to organizations, but individuals working in these organizations are at risk of various health problems, especially sleep disorders. The aim of the study was to evaluate the relationship between sleep, quality of life, and nutritional status of shift and non-shift workers. Materials and Methods: One hundred twenty-four male personnel between the age 18-65 years were included in the study. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index and short form-36 quality of life assessment scale were used to assess the participants. In addition, demographic characteristics, 3-day food consumption records, and anthropometric measurements were also recorded and an evaluation was made with these data. Results: Smoking rate was higher in the shift working group (64.6%, p=0.002) while the education level was higher (p=0.001) in non-shift workers. There was no difference between the groups regarding sleep quality (p>0.05). Energy, carbohydrate, and protein consumption was higher in the shift working group (p<0.001). Non-shift workers consumed more saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fatty acids and fat (p<0.001). There was no difference between the cholesterol consumption between the groups but fiber consumption was higher for shift workers (p<0.05). Conclusion: No difference was found between the groups in terms of sleep and quality of life and anthropometric measurements. It was determined that the shift workers consumed more energy, carbohydrates, and some micronutrients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIETARY patterns , *FOOD habits , *DRINKING behavior , *HADITH , *HUNGER - Abstract
Wasting and overeating, which means excessive extravagance and overconsumption of the blessings one has, are two important issues that have almost reached the level of disease today. It is seen that the Prophet made some recommendations that would lead to blessing in eating and drinking behaviors. The aim of this study is to offer suggestions for perceiving the Prophet's recommendations in this regard as measures that can prevent these two diseases. Today, while some people suffer from overeating and the diseases caused by it, others struggle with hunger and the diseases caused by hunger. Moreover, there are thousands of people who are not even aware of such an imbalance. Understanding that the Prophet's recommendations, which he said would lead to abundance in eating and drinking behaviors and turn eating and drinking into an act of worship, are related to the spiritual nourishment and saturation of the person will help prevent overeating and waste, which are important behavioral disorders. This is because a person needs to feed not only his body but also his soul and mind. Providing this spiritual saturation will contribute to overcoming the psychosocial problems that today's people complain about and to reduce the amount and limit of eating. In the narration that states that the believer eats with one stomach and the disbeliever with seven stomachs, it is reported that the believers eat less, but they are satiated more easily and quickly. Although the majority of hadith scholars interpret this as a metaphor, in our opinion, this news is an indication that a person's spiritual state is related to his eating habits. - Abstract
Nutrition is an essential behavior that all living things, especially humans, need to grow, develop, be healthy and productive. While other living creatures show this behavior in order to survive and continue their generation, humans, as an intelligent being, have developed a selective eating habit in order to live a healthy life. Because scientific studies have shown that the nutrients consumed directly shape the chemical structure of the brain. It is stated by scientists that the intestines have a functional potential in the body like the second brain. Foods affect behavior and cognitive functions by providing information flow in nerve cells. Studies in the field of medicine have determined that the food consumed affects not only the physical health of people, but also their mental health and personality structure. For example, it is known to everyone that sadness causes ulcer disease. The Religion of Islam, which makes provisions for all areas of life, from worship to morality, from commercial life to social order, has also given guidance on how nutrition should be. There are explanations and provisions in the verses and hadiths about nutrition culture, the effects of foods on personality, foods that are recommended and prohibited to be eaten, consumption patterns, table manners, and the positive and negative effects of foods on health. Both scientists and Islamic scholars give warnings and recommendations regarding the physiological, psychological and spiritual effects of nutrition styles. In order to receive a productive education, a person must be in good mental, physical and spiritual health. When health is impaired, working, worshiping and even having fun are not enjoyable. This situation is important in terms of both general education and religious education. One of the important conditions for having a fit mind and body is proper and halal nutrition. Eating haram and questionable foods not only causes physical harm, but also has moral harm. Diseases occur not only in the body but also in the personality and soul of a person who makes a habit of eating ways that are not suitable for his nature. According to the Quran and Sunnah, eating habits directly affect many factors in human life. It has been determined that there are strong connections between people's frequency of eating and drinking and the changes in their emotions and thoughts. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of nutrition on human character from a gastronomic perspective in the light of scientific and religious data. As a method, first of all, the general framework of the Islamic religion's perspective on the subject is given. Then, the scientific literature of psychology and medicine on this subject was examined. Finally, the relationship between food and morality, both in various narrations and in the views of some Islamic scholars, has been tried to be evaluated with scientific data. This study focuses on how nutrition styles negatively affect people's characters and educational activities. In the article, the consequences of unhealthy and non-halal nutrition in terms of religious education are discussed. The subject was limited to nutrition, and the negative effects of other haram actions were not mentioned. Document review and content analysis methods were used in the research. - Abstract
Food, which has been handled from many aspects such as production, consumption, transportation, presentation and sanctity since the beginning of humanity, is one of the cultural elements imposed on a person by the society he/she was born into. The vital importance of food as a cultural element has determined the various turning points in human history. Accordingly, all the things that consist of the transformation of humans from consuming seafood as their primary food to hunter-gatherer and the transition from huntergatherer to herding/stockbreeding and agriculture point to the human effort to survive in the provision of food. The planned hunting has compelled people to move as a community. Respectively the use of fire, the domestication of animals and the emergence of agriculture have led to the development of various religious beliefs and practices, lighting, eating meat by cooking, shepherd/feeder revolution, the emergence of the order of society, writing, urbanization and social classes. When we consider these developments as a break, each of these breaks directly affected both the physical evolution of human beings and their social organizations. It is possible to say that the eating habits for survival lose their vitality after a point. It is also possible to collect various information about the place of food in cultural history from historical documents (cookbooks, registries etc.), archeological excavations and the studies prepared by the anthropologists which have examined indigenous communities. In addition to these, the texts that have survived from the past to the present and are regarded in the history of literature today also contain information about food cultures. Since such works are a mirror of the society in which they emerged, they give information about the structure of society, whether they are fed from oral sources or written ones. In this study, the literary works of Dede Korkut (DK) and Kutadgu Bilig (KB) will be evaluated through food culture. The reason for choosing these two literary works is that they represent two different social organization models of Turkish culture. When DK and KB are handled literarily, they differ in terms of their types, contents, styles, the formation of works and most importantly transmission medias. These differences in works are a result of their different models of social organization. DK is a nomadic society and KB is a mirror of a state-based society. What is remarkable here is that these two different forms of social organization continued to exist among the Turks for a long time. In addition to the state structures such as the Karakhanid State in Central Asia, where settled order, urbanization and social stratification were observed due to agricultural production, it is seen that there were nomadic communities such as the Oghuzes at about the same time. It is understood, not only by the texts associated with the discipline of history, but also through the written sources evaluated in terms of both language and literary characteristics within the history of literature today, that Turkish history cannot be positioned on the same developmental and homogeneous evolution model. In this sense, it is possible to say that the foods in the texts, the tables set and the meals that are eaten or excluded can be evaluated together with their repetitive and changing meanings within their historical social organization contexts. Through the texts mentioned in the study, it will be focused on what shapes the food culture, how eating organizes the network of social relations and how it determines the authoritarian structure and social status both in the nomadic lifestyle and in the settled social order. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between school children's sleep problems and their nutrition habits and anthropometric measurements. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 484 children aged 7-14 years attending three primary schools and three secondary schools in the city center of Muğla province. Data were collected using the child data form and the child sleeping habit questionnaire. The obtained results were analyzed using Student's t-test, chi-square test, and Pearson correlation analysis. Results: It was determined that 72.9% of the children participating in this study had sleep problems, among which 83% of the underweight and normal weight children and 17% of the overweight and obese children had sleep problems. It was determined that children who ate or drank drinks in the last two hours before going to sleep had more sleep problems (p<0.05). There was a low level of positive and significant correlation between body mass index (BMI) and sleep duration and parasomnia, waist circumference and sleep duration, and neck circumference and sleep duration and parasomnia. Conclusion: In this study, no difference was found between the sleep problems of children who consumed healthy or unhealthy food, whereas those who ate close to sleep or consumed liquid had more sleep problems. While children's BMI, waist circumference and neck circumference increased, their sleep duration also increased. More parasomnia was observed in children with higher BMI and neck circumference. - Abstract
This article examines the role of C-reactive protein/albumin ratio (CAR) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) in diagnosing complicated acute appendicitis (AA). The study analyzed the medical records of 187 patients with AA and found that CAR levels were higher in the complicated AA group, but neither CAR nor PNI were independent predictors of complicated AA. The article also discusses other diagnostic tools and factors that have been studied in relation to complicated AA, but no significant relationships were found. The study has limitations and further research is needed to determine the clinical significance of CAR and PNI in diagnosing complicated AA. [Extracted from the article]

- Abstract
One of the main parameters of the successful conclusion of a war is the establishment of an effective organizational network. Organization is a way of managing the whole in a controlled way by bringing together different parts. This intricate structure covers the process from the army’s departure from Istanbul to its return. There are many situations in this organization network, such as feeding the army, supplying beast of burden and sea vehicles, arranging roads and bridges, preparing materials needed by the army at range points, supplying ammunition, equal sharing of campaign financing in a controlled manner and not burdening the treasury. On the other hand, another factor that covers the organizational network is the health status of the soldier participating in the campaign. For this purpose, it was necessary to provide the physicians, surgeons, doctors, and their assistants to participate in the campaign and make them ready for war by making up for their deficiencies (pharmaceutical materials, tents, kitchen tools, and beasts of burden). Like other factors, preparations in the health field are among the factors that affect the war’s outcome. This research is conducted based on this information and will focus on how the health organization in the Ottoman army was carried out in the 18th century. Moreover, it will discuss who the medical personnel who participated in the war were, how their needs were met, what materials were provided, what the medicines were, and which diseases these medicines were used to treat. Healthy eating is not a pathological situation, but when it becomes a long-term and excessive preoccupation and causes negativities in daily life, it can cause personality and behavioural disorders. The study is aimed to determine the prevalence of orthorexia among tourism students with and without a nutrition education background and to develop recommendations accordingly. The research population consists of tourism students in associate degree programs (from junior colleges) at various public and private universities and the sample group consists of 581 volunteers. The measurement scale is composed of five constituents, namely, the demographics, nutrition properties, eating under emotional conditions (emotional eating), eating attitudes test and orthorexia test. In the light of the findings it is concluded that the prevalence of orthorexia is higher among tourism students who have nutrition education than those who have not. Eating attitudes test results have shown that tourism students who get nutrition education are at a moderate level compared to those who do not. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LEMON balm , *SAFFRON crocus , *TYPE 2 diabetes , *HERBAL medicine , *DIABETES , *HYPERGLYCEMIA - Abstract
Aim: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic medical condition characterized by an accumulation of glucose in the bloodstream. Specifically, type 2 diabetes occurs when the body's cells are unable to efficiently respond to insulin, the hormone responsible for transporting circulatory glucose into cells. In the advanced stages of the disease, the body may also not produce sufficient amounts of insulin. As the disease progresses, the symptoms become more severe and potentially lead to a series of comorbidities. Although several medications are used to treat and control type 2 diabetes, these medications may have serious side effects. Hence, the use of herbal medicine to alleviate type 2 diabetes has been studied and has attracted widespread interest. Our major goal is to examine these herbs' effectiveness and related mechanisms of action in treating type 2 diabetes. Method: We studied worldwide traditional medicines, old texts, and published literature for anti-diabetic effect of Melissa officinalis and saffron. Electronic databases comprising PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct, Scopus and Google Scholar were searched to collect articles published between 1990 and 2022 years. Results: We confirmed that a variety of herbal therapies, including saffron and lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), had anti-diabetic activities based on the findings of various research. Conclusion: Saffron and Melissa officinalis have anti-diabetic properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TEETH , *NUTRITION - Abstract
Undoubtedly, the most important thing that every living thing needs and struggles to survive is food. Apart from survival, nutrition is of great importance for the proper performance of body functions. Skeletal materials and teeth, which are the most basic materials of anthropology and enable us to learn about ancient societies, give us a lot of information about the society we study. In particular, teeth are the most preferred materials in studies in this field, as they can often maintain their integrity even under difficult conditions due to their structure. With the development of technologies used in the developing field of medicine today, studies have shown that most diseases are directly linked to the nutritional regime. For this reason, studies on nutrition are increasing. Especially with the advancement of technology, new working methods emerge and one of the most preferred among them is the micro abrasion method. Studies conducted to reveal the nutritional regime of ancient societies not only provide information about diet, but also provide important data about the health status, socio-cultural structure and lifestyle of the society or societies examined. At the same time, thanks to the data obtained from studies on nutrition, it is possible to obtain information about the similarities and differences between the society or societies examined, as well as the products they grow, climatic conditions, migrations, and periodic changes. SURGICAL intensive care , *INTENSIVE care patients , *INTENSIVE care units , *ENERGY consumption , *CONSUMPTION (Economics) - Abstract
Objective: Indirect calorimetry (IC) is considered the gold standard in the accurate determination of energy consumption in intensive care patients. This study compared measured energy expenditure (MEE) with estimated energy expenditure (EEE), calculated from predictive equations, in mechanically ventilated patients. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 40 patients hospitalized in our medical/ surgical intensive care unit. Twenty four-hour energy consumption measured by IC and energy consumption calculated by adding correction factors for actual and corrected weights using HarrisBenedict, Schofield, Ireton-Jones and Swinamer equations were compared. Results: MEE was 2697.9±606.0 kcal/day. All of the EEE values, calculated using equations were moderately correlated with MEE and correlations were stronger with adjusted body weights, however, Bland-Altman statistics represent wide limits of agreement. From another perspective, EEE corresponding to between 80% and 110% of MEE was considered an adequate feeding range and provided the best levels of proficiency using adjusted body weight and Long factors; however, at least, 20% of patients remained at under-or overfeeding risk. Conclusion: It was concluded that the estimation equations are unreliable in determining energy consumption in mechanically ventilated intensive care patients due to wide limits of agreement. Estimates falling in the range of 80-110% of MEE also indicate the possibility of malnutrition. Our study supports previous studies, which indicated that nutrition management requires an individual approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by abnormally high blood sugar levels and has been known for centuries to be closely related to nutrition. The first scientific approaches to medical nutrition therapy regarding diabetes intensified at the beginning of the 20th century. However, the literature on dietary recommendations and clinical practices for this disease is quite limited. This study investigates medical nutrition therapy regarding diabetes from a century ago in light of information obtained from a booklet titled What Should Diabetics Eat? (Istanbul, 1929), which was published in Ottoman Turkish while the Alphabet Reform being implemented in the early years of the Turkish Republic. The booklet was written by Dr. Mehmet Kâmil, an internist at Şişli Etfal Hospital, and by Dr. Muzaffer, the physician at Galatasaray High School. The work was prepared as a diabetes booklet and includes nutritional recommendations that diabetic individuals should follow within the framework of the medical experience of that period. This study compares the recommendations given in the booklet both with the scientific literature of the period and with current practices and evaluates the changes that have occurred in clinical nutrition therapy regarding diabetes up until the present day. The present article also includes information about the authors of the booklet, as well as its full text in Latin characters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PREDATION - Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the functional response of the ladybird beetle Harmonia axyridis Pallas, 1773 (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), which feeds on the bean aphid Aphis fabae Scopoli, 1763 (Hemiptera: Aphididae). Bean plants were cultivated for the study, and the predator beetle was provided with different numbers of prey (5, 10, 20, 40, and 80) during its 5 stages (4 larvae and adult stage). The experiments were conducted with 5 replicates. Petri dishes with a diameter of 14 cm were used for the experiments, and a specific number of second and third instar aphids (5, 10, 20, 20, and 80 individuals) were transferred onto bean leaves to serve as food for the predator. After 24 hours, the amount of prey consumed by the predator was counted and recorded. The experiments were conducted under conditions of 27±1°C temperature, 65±5% relative humidity, and long-day photoperiod (16:8). Statistical differences were found in the prey consumption of Harmonia axyridis among its different biological stages. It was observed that the predator consumed fewer prey during the first larval stage compared to the other stages, and this difference was statistically significant. When examined in terms of prey consumption, it was recorded that predators in the third and fourth larval stages consumed a larger number of aphids. The predator's consumption response showed a linear progression depending on the number of preys. The percentage of the relationship between these two variables was calculated using regression equations, and the regression coefficient was above 90% except for the first larval stage. COVID-19 , *DEATH rate , *INTENSIVE care units , *HOSPITAL mortality , *RATINGS of hospitals - Abstract
Objective: Our aim in this study was to examine whether critically ill patients with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) achieved the targeted calories (ATC) while being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) and their relationship with the modified nitric score (mNUTRIC) and mortality. Materials and Methods: The patients were categorized into two cohorts based on the attainment of the intended caloric intake during their stay in the ICU: the ATC group and the not achieved target calorie (NATC) group. A comparative analysis was conducted on the mNUTRIC scores, as well as the ICU and hospital mortality rates, between these two groups. Results: The number of patients in the ATC group was 59 (63.4%) and the number of patients in the group that could NATC was 34 (36.6%). mNUTRIC scores on admission were 3 (2-4) in the ATC group and 5 (4-6) in the NATC group. In multivariate regression analysis, a mNUTRIC score of 5 and higher (p<0.01), hemodynamic instability (p=0.02) and male gender (p=0.04) were found to be significant as independent risk factors for NATC. ICU and hospital mortality was higher in the NATC group than in the ACT group (p<0.01, p<0.03 respectively). Conclusion: Inability to reach the targeted calories and high mNUTRIC score might relate to mortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients treated in the ICU. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CHILD development , *MENTAL illness , *MENTAL health , *WELL-being , *CHILDREN'S health , *BREASTFEEDING promotion - Abstract
Early childhood (ECC) is the main period of cognitive development, physical and mental health in children. The well-being of future generations depends on early childhood development and care. Poverty, malnutrition, violence, gender inequality, environmental pollution and caregiver mental health problems threaten the development of young children and prevent them from being physically and mentally healthy, being happy, having positive relationships and being productive adults. Nurturing Care (NC) is a policy framework proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and other stakeholders, aimed at achieving national and global goals to help children survive and thrive, in order to transform health and human potential. Its components are health, adequate nutrition, responsive care, early learning opportunities and safety. NC aims to provide family-centered, holistic services to each child, especially in the first three years of life, starting from pregnancy. The aim of this review is to increase the awareness of NC in Turkey and to share studies from other countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CHEESEMAKING , *NUTRITIONAL value , *RAW milk , *LOCAL foods , *CULTURAL values - Abstract
Herby cheese, one of the brand values of Van province, is a registered local food. There are many academic studies and publications on herby cheese. In this study, the historical and cultural story of herby cheese is evaluated. In this article based on the narratives of the participants, not only the qualities and cultural values that make herby cheese significant are highlighted but also the lifestyles shaped around herby cheese are revealed. It is the aim of this study to reveal the meanings attributed to herby cheese in Van. In addition to that, the scientific studies on the subject were reviewed and herby cheese was also tried to be evaluated in a historical context. In this context; Discussions on how traditional nutrition practices are recreated by the cultural changes and and how the practices shaped around herby cheese are constructed as a tradition have also been analyzed. The herbs that are added to the herby cheese produced in Van, some of which are endemic, distinguish the herby cheese from other cheeses in terms of the smell, taste and nutritional value they add to the cheese. As in the production of some cheeses in the world, making herby cheese with raw milk poses some risks during the preservation phase, and the ongoing preservation practices to prevent these risks become important in themselves. In the study considering the production, maturation and preservation method of herby cheese, a cultural story shaped by the consumption and economic value will be tried to put forward. Besides, its privileged position in the eating habits and practices in the region will also be discussed. Not only the expressions of the similarities and differences with other cheeses produced in different geographies are emphasized, but also the continuity and change of the practices developed around herby cheese in terms of the lives of the people in the region, will also be taken into consideration. This study aims to evaluate the demographic characteristics, indication of PEG and early ( days) complications of PEG patients performed in our hospital over four years. Material and Method: The study is a retrospective study. This study includes patients who underwent percutaneous endoscopy gastrostomy between 2016-2020 in the endoscopy unit and intensive care units in the general surgery clinic of our hospital. The age, gender, comorbidities, length of hospital stay, PEG indications, the day of hospitalization, the complications, if any, and the day the complications developed were recorded on the computer. Complications before 30 days were divided into groups as early complications and those developing after 30 days of late complications. Results: A total of 207 patients the PEG procedure. When PEG indications were examined, it was observed that the most common cause was cerebrovascular events with a rate of 44.93%. Complications were observed in 19 (9.18%) of the patients after the procedure. 68.42% (13) of complications were seen before 30 days. In the evaluation, which was grouped as non-complicated and complicated patients, no significant difference was observed between age, gender, systemic diseases, time to PEG procedure, endoscopic or surgical opening, and mortality rates. Conclusion: Although PEG is a more invasive method compared to other methods in terms of enteral nutrition, it is the most preferred feeding method due to its low complication rate, fast and easy application, and low cost. PEG is recommended for eligible patients who are scheduled for long-term enteral nutrition.

OBJECTIVE: The COVID-19 pandemic has been affecting our world and all people for 2 years and It has been the subject of many studies that have been published in the literature. Common result of these studies is that the pandemic has increased people's stress levels and also many papers report the negative impact of the pandemic on private patient populations, such as those with chronic diseases, but there are no clinical studies in Turkey that have revealed the effects of pandemic restrictions on patients with rheumatic diseases yet. Our study aims to evaluate the effects of quarantine and restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic on patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis. METHOD: This study was carried out in the USAK province of Turkey with patients with ankylosing spondylitis aged 18-65 years. After a detailed literature review, a 35-question questionnaire was prepared. This survey was aimed at determining the treatment routines and habits of patients during the COVID-19 restriction period, such as exercise and nutritional status. At the same time, the effects of the closure and restriction period on the mental health of patients were investigated.During this period, the availability of doctors and medicines of patients was questioned. RESULTS: All participants reported an impact of lockdown. 43.7% reported lesser exercising levels than before the lockdown. These patients mainly consumed more vitamin C (65.7), as media advice for the public. However, despite specialist advice, some patients consumed more alcohol (21.4%). 78% of the patients reported sleep-wake rhythms markedly changed under restriction and the majority of patients could not go to a rheumatologist for follow-up. CONCLUSION: The majority of the AS did not consult specialists or physicians during the lockdown period but most of them continued their medications to control the disease activity.

Food and nutrition are subjects that religions have focused on meticulously throughout history. As in traditional religions, new religious movements that have started to operate in different parts of the world since the second half of the twentieth century include prohibition, release, or advisory rules regarding foods and beverages. When the new religious movements are examined, it is seen that some of them have developed various food rules in accordance with the healthy life philosophy and others within the framework of ritual practices. Based on these and similar issues, in this study, it is aimed to determine what kind of eating and drinking rules or practices are encountered in new religious movements. In this direction, qualitative research techniques were used in the study; rather, descriptive and comparative methods were used. It is obvious that it is an almost impossible attempt to reach the entire problem area in research. For this reason, instead of attempting the difficult task of determining the thoughts of all the new religious movements on the subject, reference was made to the prominent groups in terms of the rules they determined and the rituals and practices they developed. As a result, the subject has been dealt with under the headings of i) prohibitions on food and beverages, ii) provisions and practices regarding vegetarian nutrition, iii) attitudes and activities based on natural nutrition, iv) use of food and beverages in religious rituals, and v) abstinence or fasting. FOOD habits , *NUTRITIONAL status , *FOOD consumption , *AGE groups , *DIET therapy - Abstract
Objective: Initiation of nutritional therapy from an early age in patients with phenylketonuria may cause abnormal nutritional behaviors. The aim of the study is to evaluate the food consumption levels of phenylketonuria patients by determining their dietary habits and the amount of energy and nutrients they consume. Material and Methods: An online questionnaire including their dietary habits and 24-hour food consumption records was applied to the patients between December 2018-March 2019. Results: A statistically significant relationship was found between age groups and the most commonly consumed cooking methods. As the age increases, the use of frying cooking method increases compared to healthy cooking methods. A statistically significant relationship was found between age groups and the frequency of french fries consumption. An inverse correlation was found between the number of formula meals and blood phenylalanine levels. As the number of meals increases, the blood phenylalanine values of the patients decrease. It was determined that the average energy consumption was insufficient for all age groups and patients aged 10-18 and over 18 years old received insufficient protein. It has been observed that the amount of phenylalanine taken at 0-4 and 4-10 years of age is higher than the amount of phenylalanine that should be taken. It has been found that each age group receives tyrosine and protein at safe rates carbohydrate consumption rates are higher than recommendations and fat rates are lower. Conclusion: Diet therapy affects nutritional habits and nutrient intake. Life-long follow-up of nutrition is important in order to prevent chronic diseases that may be caused by these effects for a long time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MORPHOLOGY , *DENTAL hygiene , *DECIDUOUS teeth , *TOOTH loss , *INFANT dental care , *ARCHAEOLOGICAL excavations , *DENTAL anthropology , *INFANTS - Abstract
The skeletal remains obtained from anthropological and archaeological excavations provide a lot of information about the biological structure and socio-cultural behavior of people. The teeth constitute the most important part that lets us unearth the skeleton’s biological character. Provided that the tooth is the hardest substance in the body, it is more resistant to taphonomic processes. Therefore, comprehensive evaluations can be made thanks to dental studies, such as the diets of individuals and societies, the food they consume and the frequency of their consumption, food preparation techniques, oral and dental hygiene, and the diseases they suffered. The subject of this study is the oral and dental health of infant and child skeletons excavated from Börükçü Site of Muğla Province, dating back to the Late Geometric-Roman Period. A total of 823 sockets and teeth belonging to 125 infants and 698 children were examined within the scope of the study. Dental wear, tooth decay, hypoplasia, calculus, abscess, aleolar loss, ante-mortem tooth loss were examined in the study based on jaw and dental pathologies. At the end of the study, wear was 81.7%, caries 3.5%, hypoplasia 25.8%, calculus 10.8% in total milk and permanent teeth; Abscess, antemortem tooth loss and alveolar loss were not found. The data obtained show that Börükçü infants and children are exposed to nutritional deficiencies and factors that will negatively affect their developmental processes. However, the fact that the results of the analysis are in the range of average values shows that the living conditions of Börükçü were not very bad, and that he was included in the general health profile of ancient societies. HEALTH of older people , *PHYSICAL mobility , *AGE , *OLDER people , *QUALITY of life - Abstract
While aging with physiological dimensions refers to the changes seen with chronological age, on the other hand, aging with psychological dimensions refers to the change of humans' capacity to adaptively. Such as learning, psychomotor, problem-solving and personality traits. With the improvement of life quality in recent years, the average life expectancy and therefore the incidence of neurodegenerative diseases among the elderly have also increased. Although the aging process is universal, progressive, gradual and unstoppable, human gut microbiota-targeted aging management is a new approach to health and anti-aging. Nutrition plays a big factor in the elderly population with providing adequate cognitive and physical functions and when taking the right nutrition it also reduces the risk of chronic diseases. When adding functional foods into the diet, it can play a significant role to reduce the risk of diet-related diseases. Such as probiotics and prebiotics. In recent years, a new subclass of probiotics called 'psychobiotics' has emerged. These psychobiotics are defined as probiotics that, when taken in appropriate amounts, it creates positive psychiatric effects in human psychopathology. Examination of this new class of probiotics provides a glimmer of hope for the effective management of neurodegenerative diseases and various psychiatric disorders, especially with increasing life expectancy. Also, recommending the use of probiotics in old age will contribute to the treatment of some health problems related to aging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic has made the quarantine process essential to protect public health and prevent the risk. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the quarantine process applied in Turkish speaking population on nutritional changes. Additionally, the relationship between nutritional and sleep pattern changes, anxiety and happiness status was evaluated. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire form was applied via the Google Forms application. General information was questioned with a socio-demographic form. Changes in nutrition and sleep patterns were obtained with closed-ended questions asked using the self-assessment method, and the levels of anxiety and happiness were obtained using the Likert-type question technique. Results: Total of 900 people who completed the questionnaire were included. Almost half of the participants reported that they experienced nutritional changes and 54.1% did not. Also, it was determined that females experienced more than males (p≤0.001). Participants reported that the quarantine process also caused sleep pattern changes. However, nutritional changes were also found to be significantly higher in participants who experienced sleep pattern changes. It was shown that increased happiness and anxiety levels were associated with nutritional changes (p≤0.001). Regardless of nutrition, sleep pattern changes were more common who reported high anxiety and better happiness status (p≤0.001). It was found that females had more sleep problems than males during the quarantine period (p=0.006). Conclusion: People responsible for public health should be aware of crisis processes such as quarantine may cause short and/or longterm health problems in public health and should try increasing social and individual awareness.
