Search

There is mounting evidence that a second quantum revolution based on the technological capabilities to detect and manipulate single quantum particles (e.g., electrons, photons, ions, etc), a feat not achieved during the first quantum revolution, is progressing fast. It is expected that in less than 10 years, this second quantum revolution shall have a significant impact over numerous industries, including finance, medicine, energy, transportation, etc. Quantum computers threaten the status quo of cybersecurity, due to known quantum algorithms that can break asymmetric encryption, which is what gives us the ability to communicate securely using a public channel. Considering the world's dependence on digital communication through data exchange and processing, retaining the ability to communicate securely even once quantum computers come into play, cannot be stressed enough. Two solutions are available: Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC); which, we emphasise, are not mutually exclusive. The EuroQCI initiative, of which EQUO is a part of, focuses on QKD and aims to build a network whereby EU countries can communicate securely through QKD. KM3NeT/ORCA is a water Cherenkov neutrino detector under construction and anchored at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The detector is designed to study oscillations of atmospheric neutrinos and determine the neutrino mass ordering. This paper focuses on an initial configuration of ORCA, referred to as ORCA6, which comprises six out of the foreseen 115 detection units of photo-sensors. A high-purity neutrino sample was extracted, corresponding to an exposure of 433 kton-years. The sample of 5828 neutrino candidates is analysed following a binned log-likelihood method in the reconstructed energy and cosine of the zenith angle. The atmospheric oscillation parameters are measured to be $\sin^2\theta_{23}= 0.51^{+0.04}_{-0.05}$, and $ \Delta m^2_{31} = 2.14^{+0.25}_{-0.35}\times 10^{-3}~\mathrm{eV^2} \cup \{-2.25,-1.76\}\times 10^{-3}~\mathrm{eV^2}$ at 68\% CL. A new gravitational action is presented that could be a fair minimal description of the effective gravitational action in the context of Asymptotic Safety. It generates consistent modified Einstein equations where $\Lambda$ and $G$ are functions of spacetime. In addition, these equations respect, without any ad hoc choices, the Bianchi identities. We analyse this action in a quantum cosmology scenario. Furthermore, assuming homogeneous and isotropic spacetime, the action gives a non singular cosmology with power law inflation. Tensor and scalar perturbations have been used to constraint the free parameters.

This study focuses on the validation of high-resolution regional reanalyses to understand their effectiveness in reproducing precipitation patterns over Italy, a climate change hotspot characterized by coastal sea-land interaction and complex orography. Nine reanalysis products were evaluated, with the ECMWF global reanalysis ERA5 serving as a benchmark. These included both European (COSMO-REA6, CERRA) and Italy-specific (BOLAM, MERIDA, MERIDA-HRES, MOLOCH, SPHERA, VHR-REA\_IT) datasets, using different models and parametrizations. The inter-comparison involved determining the effective resolution of daily precipitation fields using wavelet techniques and assessing intense precipitation statistics through frequency distributions. In-situ observations and observational gridded datasets were used to independently validate reanalysis precipitation fields. The capability of reanalyses to depict daily precipitation patterns was assessed, highlighting a maximum radius of precipitation misplacement of about 15 km, with notably lower skills during summer. An overall overestimation of precipitation was identified in the reanalysis climatological fields over the Po Valley and the Alps, whereas multiple products showed an underestimation of precipitations across the North-West coast, the Apennines, and Southern Italy. Finally, a comparison with a time-consistent observational dataset (UniMi/ISAC-CNR) revealed a non-stable deviation from observations in the annual precipitation cumulate of the reanalysis products analyzed. This should be taken into account when interpreting precipitation trends over Italy.

Long-range dipole-dipole interactions in subwavelength arrays of quantum emitters involve virtual photon exchange processes that impart forces on the emitters due to the imposed photon recoil. We perform a semi-classical analysis of the dynamics of an impurity allowed to freely move through a subwavelength array of atoms in different parameter regimes. We numerically solve the coupled set of equations between motional and spin degrees of freedom to elucidate the possible impurity trajectories realizable in this system. We find that the impurity can maintain quasi-stable orbits within the plaquette for long times. The regions through which these orbits pass are strongly dependent on the chosen atomic transition dipole moment. We further provide intuition for our findings based on a simplified model, where the lattice dynamics is adiabatically eliminated. As a final point of analysis, we also take the motional degrees of freedom of the lattice atoms into account, and study the polaron-like excitation induced in the kinetic state of the lattice by the impurity., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

We present the first non-perturbative large-$N$ calculation of the $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric (SUSY) $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ Yang-Mills gluino condensate, obtained by means of numerical simulations of the lattice-discretized theory, and exploiting large-$N$ twisted volume reduction. We present two different determinations based, respectively, on the Banks-Casher formula and on the Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relation, both giving perfectly consistent results. By matching the lattice and the Novikov-Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov (NSVZ) regularization schemes, we are able for the first time to compare numerical and analytic computations. Our most accurate determination gives $\Sigma_{\rm RGI} /\Lambda_{\rm NSVZ}^3 = 1.55(57)$, in very good agreement with the $N$-dependence and the value predicted by the weak coupling instanton-based approach $\Sigma_{\rm RGI} /\Lambda_{\rm NSVZ}^3 = 1$., Comment: Main text: 5 pages, 3 figures. PLATO (PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars) is ESA's M3 mission designed to detect and characterise extrasolar planets and perform asteroseismic monitoring of a large number of stars. PLATO will detect small planets (down to <2 R_(Earth)) around bright stars (<11 mag), including terrestrial planets in the habitable zone of solar-like stars. With the complement of radial velocity observations from the ground, planets will be characterised for their radius, mass, and age with high accuracy (5 %, 10 %, 10 % for an Earth-Sun combination respectively). PLATO will provide us with a large-scale catalogue of well-characterised small planets up to intermediate orbital periods, relevant for a meaningful comparison to planet formation theories and to better understand planet evolution. It will make possible comparative exoplanetology to place our Solar System planets in a broader context. In parallel, PLATO will study (host) stars using asteroseismology, allowing us to determine the stellar properties with high accuracy, substantially enhancing our knowledge of stellar structure and evolution. The payload instrument consists of 26 cameras with 12cm aperture each. For at least four years, the mission will perform high-precision photometric measurements. Here we review the science objectives, present PLATO's target samples and fields, provide an overview of expected core science performance as well as a description of the instrument and the mission profile at the beginning of the serial production of the flight cameras. PLATO is scheduled for a launch date end 2026. This overview therefore provides a summary of the mission to the community in preparation of the upcoming operational phases.

When dealing with an orbit determination problem, uncertainties naturally arise from intrinsic errors related to observation devices and approximation models. Following the least squares method and applying approximation schemes such as the differential correction, uncertainties can be geometrically summarized in confidence regions and estimated by confidence ellipsoids. We investigate the asymptotic behaviour of the confidence ellipsoids while the number of observations and the time span over which they are performed simultaneously increase. Numerical evidences suggest that, in the chaotic scenario, the uncertainties decay at different rates whether the orbit determination is set up to recover the initial conditions alone or along with a dynamical or kinematical parameter, while in the regular case there is no distinction. We show how to improve some of the results in \cite{maro.bonanno}, providing conditions that imply a non-faster-than-polynomial rate of decay in the chaotic case with the parameter, in accordance with the numerical experiments. We also apply these findings to well known examples of chaotic maps, such as piecewise expanding maps of the unit interval or affine hyperbolic toral transformations. We also discuss the applicability to intermittent maps.

The strong sphaleron rate, i.e., the rate of real time QCD topological transitions, is a key phenomenological quantity, playing a fundamental role in several physical contexts. In heavy-ion collisions, a non-vanishing rate can lead to the so-called Chiral Magnetic Effect. In early-Universe cosmology, instead, it can be related to the rate of thermal production of QCD axions. In this talk, we present the first reliable fully non-perturbative computation of the strong sphaleron rate in $N_f=2+1$ QCD at the physical point by means of lattice simulations, in a range of temperatures going from 200 MeV to 600 MeV. We propose an emergent cosmological model rooted in the Asymptotically Safe antiscreening behavior of the Newton constant at Planckian energies. Distinguishing itself from prior approaches, our model encapsulates the variable nature of $G$ through a multiplicative coupling within the matter Lagrangian, characterized by a conserved energy-momentum tensor. The universe emerges from a quasi-de Sitter phase, transitioning to standard cosmological evolution post-Planck Era. Our analysis demonstrates the feasibility of constraining the transition scale to nearly classical cosmology using Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) data and the potential to empirically probe the antiscreening trait of Newton's constant, as predicted by Asymptotic Safety., Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures, comments welcome

We simulate $N_f=2+1$ QCD at the physical point combining open and periodic boundary conditions in a parallel tempering framework, following the original proposal by M. Hasenbusch for $2d$ $\mathrm{CP}^{N-1}$ models, which has been recently implemented and widely employed in $4d$ $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ pure Yang-Mills theories too. We show that using this algorithm it is possible to achieve a sizable reduction of the auto-correlation time of the topological charge in dynamical fermions simulations both at zero and finite temperature, allowing to avoid topology freezing down to lattice spacings as fine as $a \sim 0.02$ fm. We compute the renormalized Dirac spectral density in $N_f = 2+1$ QCD at physical quark masses, temperature $T = 230$ MeV and system size $L_s = 3.4$ fm. To that end, we perform a point-wise continuum limit of the staggered density in lattice QCD with staggered quarks. We find, for the first time, that a clear infrared structure (IR peak) emerges in the density of Dirac operator describing dynamical quarks. Features of this structure are consistent with those previously attributed to the recently-proposed IR phase of thermal QCD. Our results (i) provide solid evidence that these IR features are stable and physical; (ii) improve the upper bound for IR-phase transition temperature $T_{\mathrm{IR}}$ so that the new window is $200 < T_{\mathrm{IR}} < 230\,$MeV; (iii) support non-restoration of anomalous U$_{\mathrm A}$(1) symmetry (chiral limit) below $T \!=\! 230\,$MeV., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures

Heart rate variability (HRV) series reflects the dynamical variation of heartbeat-to-heartbeat intervals in time and is one of the outputs of the cardiovascular system. Over the years, this system has been recognized for generating nonlinear and complex heartbeat dynamics, with the latter referring to a high sensitivity to small -- theoretically infinitesimal -- input changes. While early research associated chaotic behavior with the cardiovascular system, evidence of stochastic inputs to the system, i.e., a physiological noise, invalidated those conclusions. To date, a comprehensive characterization of the cardiovascular system dynamics, accounting for dynamical noise input, has not been undertaken. In this study, we propose a novel methodological framework for evaluating the presence of regular or chaotic dynamics in noisy dynamical systems. The method relies on the estimation of asymptotic growth rate of noisy mean square displacement series in a two-dimensional phase space. We validated the proposed method using synthetic series comprising well-known regular and chaotic maps. We applied the method to real HRV series from healthy subjects, as well as patients with atrial fibrillation and congestive heart failure, during unstructured long-term activity. Results indicate that HRV series are consistently generated by a regular system driven by dynamical noise.

The thalamus is a subcortical structure of central importance to brain function, which is organized in smaller nuclei with specialized roles. Despite significant functional and clinical relevance, locating and distinguishing the different thalamic nuclei in vivo, non-invasively, has proved challenging with conventional imaging techniques, such as T$_{1}$ and T$_{2}$-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This key limitation has prompted extensive research efforts, and several new candidate MRI sequences for thalamic imaging have been proposed, especially at 7T. However, studies to date have mainly been centered on individual techniques, and often focused on subsets of specific nuclei. It is now critical to evaluate which options are best for which nuclei, and which are globally the most informative. This work addresses these questions through a comprehensive evaluation of thalamic structural imaging techniques in humans at 7T, including several variants of T$_{1}$, T$_{2}$, T$_{2}$* and magnetic susceptibility-based contrasts. All images were obtained from the same participants, to allow direct comparisons without anatomical variability confounds. The different contrasts were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed with dedicated approaches, referenced to well-established thalamic atlases. Overall, the analyses showed that quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) and T$_{1}$-weighted MP2RAGE tuned to maximize gray-to-white matter contrast are currently the most valuable options. The two contrasts display unique, complementary features and, together, enable the distinction of the majority of known nuclei. Likewise, their combined information could provide a powerful input for automatic segmentation approaches. Gamma-ray bursts are promising candidate sources of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos. The recent GRB 221009A event, identified as the brightest gamma-ray burst ever detected, provides a unique opportunity to investigate hadronic emissions involving neutrinos. The KM3NeT undersea neutrino detectors participated in the worldwide follow-up effort triggered by the event, searching for neutrino events. In this letter, we summarize subsequent searches, in a wide energy range from MeV up to a few PeVs. No neutrino events are found in any of the searches performed. This paper explores the domain of meromorphic extension for the dynamical zeta function associated to a class of one-dimensional differentiable parabolic maps featuring an indifferent fixed point. We establish the connection between this domain and the spectrum of the weighted transfer operators of the induced map. Furthermore, we discuss scenarios where meromorphic extensions occur beyond the confines of the natural disc of convergence of the dynamical zeta function.

We investigate the role of topology on the lattice determination of the $\mathrm{SU}(3)$ strong coupling renormalized via gradient flow. To deal with the topological freezing of standard local algorithms, the definition of the coupling is usually projected onto the zero topological sector. However, it is not obvious that this definition is not biased by the loss of ergodicity. We instead avoid the topological freezing using a novel algorithm, the Parallel Tempering on Boundary Conditions. The comparison with a standard algorithm shows that, even in the case where the latter is severely frozen, one obtains the same projected coupling. Moreover, we show that the two definitions of the coupling, projected and non-projected, lead to the same flow of the renormalization scale. The KM3NeT/ARCA neutrino detector is currently under construction at 3500 m depth offshore Capo Passero, Sicily, in the Mediterranean Sea. The main science objectives are the detection of high-energy cosmic neutrinos and the discovery of their sources. Simulations were conducted for the full KM3NeT/ARCA detector, instrumenting a volume of 1 km$^3$, to estimate the sensitivity and discovery potential to point-like neutrino sources and an all-sky diffuse neutrino flux. This paper covers the reconstruction of track- and shower-like signatures, as well as the criteria employed for neutrino event selection. By leveraging both the track and shower observation channels, the KM3NeT/ARCA detector demonstrates the capability to detect the diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux within half a year of operation, achieving a 5$\sigma$ statistical significance. Motivated by the recently-established connection between Jarzynski's equality and the theoretical framework of Stochastic Normalizing Flows, we investigate a protocol relying on out-of-equilibrium lattice Monte Carlo simulations to mitigate the infamous computational problem of topological freezing. We test our proposal on $2d$ $\mathrm{CP}^{N-1}$ models and compare our results with those obtained adopting the Parallel Tempering on Boundary Conditions proposed by M. Hasenbusch, obtaining comparable performances. We study the $\theta$-dependence of the string tension and of the lightest glueball mass in four-dimensional $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ Yang-Mills theories. More precisely, we focus on the coefficients parametrizing the $\mathcal{O}(\theta^2)$ dependence of these quantities, which we investigate by means of numerical simulations of the lattice-discretized theory, carried out using imaginary values of the $\theta$ parameter. Topological freezing at large $N$ is avoided using the Parallel Tempering on Boundary Conditions algorithm. We present a new catalog of stars for which detected solar-like oscillations and magnetic activity measurements are both available from chromospheric spectroscopic observations. Our results were obtained by exploiting NASA TESS mission light curves for active stars observed within the Mount Wilson Observatory HK project and the HK survey of the Hamburg Robotic Telescope TIGRE. We analyzed the light curves for a total of 191 stars by adopting recent techniques based on Bayesian analysis and model comparison to assess the detection of a power excess originating from solar-like oscillations. We characterized the oscillations in a total of 34 targets, for which we provide estimates for the global asteroseismic parameters of $\nu_\mathrm{max}$ (the frequency of maximum oscillation power), $\Delta\nu$ (the large frequency separation), and for the amplitude of the solar-like oscillation envelope $A_\mathrm{max}$. We provide strong statistical evidence for the detection of solar-like oscillations in 15 stars of our sample, identify six further stars where a detection is likely, and 13 stars for which oscillations cannot be ruled out. The key parameters extracted in this work will be exploited for a detailed stellar modeling of the targets and to calibrate relations that connect the level of the measured magnetic activity to the suppression induced on the global oscillation amplitudes. This opens the possibility of shedding light on the interplay between magnetic fields and oscillations. We compute the sphaleron rate on the lattice. We adopt a novel strategy based on the extraction of the spectral density via a modified version of the Backus-Gilbert method from finite-lattice-spacing and finite-smoothing-radius Euclidean topological charge density correlators. The physical sphaleron rate is computed by performing controlled continuum limit and zero-smoothing extrapolations both in pure gauge and, for the first time, in full QCD.

We investigate, by means of numerical lattice simulations, the $\theta$-dependence of the critical deconfinement temperature of $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ gauge theories at large $N$: $T_c(\theta) = T_c(0)[1-R\theta^2+O(\theta^4)]$, with $R\sim O(1/N^2)$. We follow two different strategies to determine $R$, one based on the calculation of the latent heat of the transition and on the jump of the topological susceptibility at the $\theta=0$ critical point, the other relying on a direct probe of $T_c(\theta)$ by means of imaginary-$\theta$ Monte Carlo simulations. We present a proposal for calculating the running of the coupling constant of the $\mathrm{SU}(3)$ pure-gauge theory, which combines the Twisted Gradient Flow (TGF) renormalization scheme with Parallel Tempering on Boundary Conditions (PTBC). The TGF is a gradient flow-based renormalization scheme formulated in an asymmetric lattice with twisted boundary conditions. Combined with step scaling, it has been successfully used to calculate the $\mathrm{SU}(3)$ $\Lambda$ parameter. As with all gradient flow-based schemes, the coupling constant is highly correlated with the topological charge and affected by topology freezing, an issue addressed by projecting the determination of the coupling onto the zero topological sector. As an alternative to the zero-charge projection, we combine TGF with PTBC, by replicating multiple copies of the same lattice, interpolating between periodic and open boundary conditions in a parallel-tempered manner. We study the effects of taste degeneracy on the continuum scaling of the localization properties of the staggered Dirac operator in high-temperature QCD using numerical simulations on the lattice, focusing in particular on the position of the mobility edge separating localized and delocalized modes at the low end of the spectrum. We find that, if the continuum limit is approached at fixed spatial volume, the restoration of taste symmetry leads to sizeable systematic effects on estimates for the mobility edge obtained from spectral statistics, which become larger and larger as the lattice spacing is decreased. Such systematics, however, are found to decrease if the volume is increased at fixed lattice spacing. We argue that spectral statistics estimate correctly the position of the mobility edge in the thermodynamic limit at fixed spacing, and support this with an independent numerical analysis based directly on the properties of the Dirac eigenvectors, that are unaffected by taste degeneracy. We then provide a theoretical argument justifying the exchange of the thermodynamic and continuum limits when studying localization. We determine the pure-gauge $\mathrm{SU}(3)$ topological susceptibility slope $\chi^\prime$, related to the next-to-leading-order term of the momentum expansion of the topological charge density 2-point correlator, from numerical lattice Monte Carlo simulations. Our strategy consists in performing a double-limit extrapolation: first we take the continuum limit at fixed smoothing radius, then we take the zero-smoothing-radius limit. Our final result is $\chi^\prime = [17.1(2.1)~\mathrm{MeV}]^2$. The KM3NeT neutrino telescope is currently being deployed at two different sites in the Mediterranean Sea. First searches for astrophysical neutrinos have been performed using data taken with the partial detector configuration already in operation. The paper presents the results of two independent searches for neutrinos from compact binary mergers detected during the third observing run of the LIGO and Virgo gravitational wave interferometers. The first search looks for a global increase in the detector counting rates that could be associated with inverse beta decay events generated by MeV-scale electron anti-neutrinos. The second one focuses on upgoing track-like events mainly induced by muon (anti-)neutrinos in the GeV--TeV energy range. Both searches yield no significant excess for the sources in the gravitational wave catalogs. For each source, upper limits on the neutrino flux and on the total energy emitted in neutrinos in the respective energy ranges have been set. Calculations of topological observables in lattice gauge theories with traditional Monte Carlo algorithms have long been known to be a difficult task, owing to the effects of long autocorrelations times. Several mitigation strategies have been put forward, including the use of open boundary conditions and methods such as parallel tempering. In this contribution we examine a new approach based on out-of-equilibrium Monte Carlo simulations. Starting from thermalized configurations with open boundary conditions on a line defect, periodic boundary conditions are gradually switched on. A sampling of topological observables is then shown to be possible with a specific reweighting-like technique inspired by Jarzynski's equality. We discuss the efficiency of this approach using results obtained for the 2-dimensional $\mathrm{CP}^{N-1}$ models. We provide a new characterization of both belief update and belief revision in terms of a Kripke-Lewis semantics. We consider frames consisting of a set of states, a Kripke belief relation and a Lewis selection function. Adding a valuation to a frame yields a model. Given a model and a state, we identify the initial belief set K with the set of formulas that are believed at that state and we identify either the updated belief set or the revised belief set, prompted by the input represented by formula A, as the set of formulas that are the consequent of conditionals that (1) are believed at that state and (2) have A as antecedent. We show that this class of models characterizes both the Katsuno-Mendelzon (KM) belief update functions and the AGM belief revision functions, in the following sense: (1) each model gives rise to a partial belief function that can be completed into a full KM/AGM update/revision function, and (2) for every KM/AGM update/revision function there is a model whose associated belief function coincides with it. The difference between update and revision can be reduced to two semantic properties that appear in a stronger form in revision relative to update, thus confirming the finding by Peppas et al. (1996) that, "for a fixed theory K, revising K is much the same as updating K", Comment: 37 pages

We compute the large-$N$ limit of the QCD chiral condensate on the lattice using twisted reduced models, and performing controlled continuum and chiral extrapolations. We perform two different calculations: one consists in extracting the chiral condensate from the quark mass dependence of the pion mass, and the other consists in extracting the chiral condensate from the behaviour of the mode number of the Wilson-Dirac operator for small eigenvalues. We find consistency between the results of the two methods, giving a joint estimate of $\lim_{N\to\infty}\Sigma(N)/N=[184(13)$ MeV$]^3$ ($\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$, $\mu=2$ GeV, taking the square root of the string tension $\sqrt{\sigma}=440$ MeV to set the scale), in remarkable agreement with the $\mathrm{SU}(3)$ 2-flavor FLAG result., Comment: 25 pages, 11 figures. v2: minor changes, matches accepted version on JHEP

The anomalous scaling of Newton's constant around the Reuter fixed point is dynamically computed using the functional flow equation approach. Specifically, we thoroughly analyze the flow of the most general conformally reduced Einstein-Hilbert action. Our findings reveal that, due to the distinctive nature of gravity, the anomalous dimension $\eta$ of the Newton's constant cannot be constrained to have one single value: the ultraviolet critical manifold is characterized by a line of fixed points $(g_\ast(\eta), \lambda_\ast (\eta))$, with a discrete (infinite) set of eigenoperators associated to each fixed point. More specifically, we find three ranges of $\eta$ corresponding to different properties of both fixed points and eigenoperators and, in particular, the range $ \eta < \eta_c \approx 0.96$ the ultraviolet critical manifolds has finite dimensionality., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

ENIGMA-51 is a new egocentric dataset acquired in a real industrial domain by 19 subjects who followed instructions to complete the repair of electrical boards using industrial tools (e.g., electric screwdriver) and electronic instruments (e.g., oscilloscope). The 51 sequences are densely annotated with a rich set of labels that enable the systematic study of human-object interactions in the industrial domain. We provide benchmarks on four tasks related to human-object interactions: 1) untrimmed action detection, 2) egocentric human-object interaction detection, 3) short-term object interaction anticipation and 4) natural language understanding of intents and entities. Baseline results show that the ENIGMA-51 dataset poses a challenging benchmark to study human-object interactions in industrial scenarios. Regular black hole spacetimes are obtained from an effective Lagrangian for Quantum Einstein Gravity. The interior matter is modeled as a dust fluid, which interacts with the geometry through a multiplicative coupling function denoted as $\chi$. The specific functional form of $\chi$ is deduced from Asymptotically Safe gravity, under the key assumption that the Reuter fixed point remains minimally affected by the presence of matter. As a consequence the gravitational coupling vanishes at high energies. The static exterior geometry of the black hole is entirely determined by the junction conditions at the boundary surface. Consequently, the resulting global spacetime geometry remains devoid of singularities at all times. This result offers a novel perspective on regular black holes in Asymptotically Safe gravity., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Recently, a variety of quantum algorithms have been devised to estimate thermal averages on a genuine quantum processor. In this paper, we consider the practical implementation of the so-called Quantum-Quantum Metropolis algorithm. We compute the chiral condensate of $2+1$ QCD from the mode number of the staggered Dirac operator, performing controlled extrapolations to both the continuum and the chiral limit. We consider also alternative strategies, based on the quark mass dependence of the topological susceptibility and of the pion mass, and obtain consistent results within errors. We compute the sphaleron rate of $N_f=2+1$ QCD at the physical point for a range of temperatures $200$ MeV $\lesssim T \lesssim 600$ MeV. We adopt a strategy recently applied in the quenched case, based on the extraction of the rate via a modified version of the Backus-Gilbert method from finite-lattice-spacing and finite-smoothing-radius Euclidean topological charge density correlators. The physical sphaleron rate is finally computed by performing a continuum limit at fixed physical smoothing radius, followed by a zero-smoothing extrapolation. Dynamical fermions were discretized using the staggered formulation, which is known to yield large lattice artifacts for the topological susceptibility.
