Abstract

Frame interpolation attempts to synthesise frames given one or more consecutive video frames. In recent years, deep learning approaches, and notably convolutional neural networks, have succeeded at tackling low- and high-level computer vision problems including frame interpolation. These techniques often tackle two problems, namely algorithm efficiency and reconstruction quality. In this paper, we present a multi-scale generative adversarial network for frame interpolation (\mbox{FIGAN}). To maximise the efficiency of our network, we propose a novel multi-scale residual estimation module where the predicted flow and synthesised frame are constructed in a coarse-to-fine fashion. To improve the quality of synthesised intermediate video frames, our network is jointly supervised at different levels with a perceptual loss function that consists of an adversarial and two content losses. We evaluate the proposed approach using a collection of 60fps videos from YouTube-8m. Our results improve the state-of-the-art accuracy and provide subjective visual quality comparable to the best performing interpolation method at x47 faster runtime.

Abstract

Convolutional neural networks have enabled accurate image super-resolution in real-time. However, recent attempts to benefit from temporal correlations in video super-resolution have been limited to naive or inefficient architectures. In this paper, we introduce spatio-temporal sub-pixel convolution networks that effectively exploit temporal redundancies and improve reconstruction accuracy while maintaining real-time speed. Specifically, we discuss the use of early fusion, slow fusion and 3D convolutions for the joint processing of multiple consecutive video frames. We also propose a novel joint motion compensation and video super-resolution algorithm that is orders of magnitude more efficient than competing methods, relying on a fast multi-resolution spatial transformer module that is end-to-end trainable. These contributions provide both higher accuracy and temporally more consistent videos, which we confirm qualitatively and quantitatively. Relative to single-frame models, spatio-temporal networks can either reduce the computational cost by 30% whilst maintaining the same quality or provide a 0.2dB gain for a similar computational cost. Abstract

Despite the breakthroughs in accuracy and speed of single image super-resolution using faster and deeper convolutional neural networks, one central problem remains largely unsolved: how do we recover the finer texture details when we super-resolve at large upscaling factors? The behavior of optimization-based super-resolution methods is principally driven by the choice of the objective function. Recent work has largely focused on minimizing the mean squared reconstruction error. The resulting estimates have high peak signal-to-noise ratios, but they are often lacking high-frequency details and are perceptually unsatisfying in the sense that they fail to match the fidelity expected at the higher resolution. In this paper, we present SRGAN, a generative adversarial network (GAN) for image super-resolution (SR). To our knowledge, it is the first framework capable of inferring photo-realistic natural images for 4x upscaling factors. To achieve this, we propose a perceptual loss function which consists of an adversarial loss and a content loss. The adversarial loss pushes our solution to the natural image manifold using a discriminator network that is trained to differentiate between the super-resolved images and original photo-realistic images. In addition, we use a content loss motivated by perceptual similarity instead of similarity in pixel space. Our deep residual network is able to recover photo-realistic textures from heavily downsampled images on public benchmarks. An extensive mean-opinion-score (MOS) test shows hugely significant gains in perceptual quality using SRGAN. Abstract

El delirium es uno de los grandes síndromes geriátricos, siendo un trastorno cognitivo que aparece en los pacientes ancianos durante la hospitalización y se manifiesta con síntomas transitorios similares a los de una demencia. Esta afección se ha convertido en un problema generalizado en ancianos y supone una complicación en el tratamiento del paciente y un alargamiento en el tiempo de su estancia hospitalaria, lo que supone un coste humano y material para la sanidad. Los hospitales actuales son concebidos como máquinas de curar, eficientes pero inhumanas. En la actualidad, se proyectan espacios sanitarios que poco tienen que ver con aquellos pensados bajo la influencia de las ideas higienistas y de humanización de la arquitectura que caracterizan al Movimiento Moderno. Estos ambientes físicos, evocadores y preludios de experiencias negativas, se han convertido en factores predisponentes y desencadenantes de trastornos como el delirium. Este trabajo aborda la intervención en los centros sanitarios hacia espacios de hospitalización más humanos y amables con el paciente geriátrico, abordando el tratamiento y la prevención del delirium a través de la arquitectura. Se lleva a cabo una revisión bibliográfica sobre el delirium y los factores que influyen en su desarrollo, así como un estudio cuantitativo y cualitativo de casos de hospitales, con el fin de generar unas pautas para buenas prácticas de humanización en hospitales.

25. Subsistencia y movilidad de los grupos cazadores-recolectores complejos de la margen izquierda del bajo río Uruguay analizada a través de isótopos estables

Abstract

En este trabajo presentamos los valores isotópicos (δ13C, δ15N y δ18O) de once individuos recuperados en los sitios arqueológicos Cañada Saldaña, Yaguareté y El Cerro (margen izquierda del curso inferior del río Uruguay), cuyos contextos fueron generados por grupos de cazadores-recolectores complejos del Holoceno Tardío. Asimismo, incluimos los resultados isotópicos de dos cánidos domésticos y de las principales presas. Los valores obtenidos muestran que los humanos desarrollaron dietas monoisotópicas C3, con un aporte marginal de alimentos C4, los cuales estuvieron alojados principalmente en las proteínas. Estos resultados indican que, si estos grupos cultivaron o manipularon maíz, su ingesta fue muy pequeña dado que es isotópicamente indetectable. Los valores de nitrógeno muestran una posición trófica general omnívora, con un importante componente carnívoro, que incluyó el consumo regular de peces fluviales. Este resultado es coherente con la importancia que tienen los peces dentro de los conjuntos arqueofaunísticos. Los cánidos domésticos presentan el mismo patrón fotosintético que los humanos, pero con un nivel trófico algo inferior, exhibiendo una dieta igualmente omnívora, pero con un mayor componente de vegetales, también C3. Las principales presas terrestres herbívoras exhiben dietas monoisotópicas C3, o preponderantemente C3, con valores de δ15N y Δ13C que son típicos para este gremio. Myocastor coypus y Pterodoras granulosus presentan un patrón mixto, similar al observado en otros ejemplares de la región, y que parecen haber sido, en alguna medida, parte de los taxones que transfirieron proteínas C4 a los humanos. Los resultados del oxígeno-18 señalan que los cazadores-recolectores y las presas principales desarrollaron sus ciclos de vida de manera exclusiva o preponderante en el valle del río Uruguay. No obstante, se identificaron dos humanos con valores atípicos, que, si bien caen dentro del rango esperado para los organismos de la región, se comportan como outliers extremos (fuera del rango 3.IQR) en relación con el resto de los humanos. Esto podría reflejar una movilidad más reducida, un estilo de vida particular, o un área de procedencia que no corresponde estrictamente al valle del río Uruguay.

30. Evaluación del decaimiento volumétrico en probetas de piedra sometidas a ciclos de cristalización de sales, registrado mediante fotogrametría digital

Abstract

The possibility of monitoring the volume of stones deteriorated by accelerated aging cycles has been formulated, as a complement to the records using dry weight, since the latter is altered in the first cycles by up to 10% due to the formation of internal crystals, in the porous network of the samples. For this, five samples of volcanic Tuff stones have been deteriorated through crystallization cycles with a 12% concentrated sodium sulfate brine at room temperature ranging between 18 and 20 ° C. Data collection occurs in two categories: first in “cycles” involving dry weight and volume by photogrammetry; and second in “periods” that involves dry weight, volume by Archimedes’ principle and volume by photogrammetry. With this, it has been observed that the volume is also affected by the crystallization of salts, presenting an increase in the first three cycles, in addition, the ability of photogrammetry to acquire the volume of small-scale objects has been demonstrated, achieving a percentage error lower than that of 4%., Foi apresentada a possibilidade de acompanhar o volume de pedras deterioradas por ciclos de envelhecimento acelerado, como um complemento para os registos através do peso seco, pois este último vê-se alterado nos primeiros ciclos até 10% pela formação de cristais internos na rede porosa das amostras. Para isso, cinco amostras de pedras Tobas vulcânicas foram deterioradas por ciclos de cristalização com uma salmoura de sulfato de sódio concentrada a 12% à temperatura ambiente que oscila entre 18 e 20 °C. A coleta dos dados ocorre em duas categorias: primeiro em “ciclos” que envolvem peso seco e volume por fotogrametria; e segundo em “períodos” que envolve peso seco, volume por princípio de Arquimedes e volume por fotogrametria. Observou-se que o volume também é afectado pela cristalização de sais, com um aumento nos primeiros três ciclos. Foi demonstrada a capacidade da fotogrametria para adquirir o volume de objetos de pequena escala, obtendo um erro percentual inferior a 4%., Se ha formulado la posibilidad de dar seguimiento al volumen de piedras deterioradas por ciclos de envejecimiento acelerado, como un complemento para los registros mediante el peso seco, pues este último se ve alterado en los primeros ciclos hasta un 10% por la formación de cristales internos en la red porosa de las muestras. Para esto, cinco muestras de piedras Tobas volcánicas se han deteriorado mediante ciclos de cristalización con una salmuera de sulfato de sodio concentrada al 12% a temperatura ambiente que oscila entre los 18 y 20 °C. Abstract

Background Immune checkpoint inhibitors and targeted therapies have dramatically improved outcomes in patients with advanced melanoma, but approximately half these patients will not have a durable benefit. Phase 1-2 trials of adoptive cell therapy with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) have shown promising responses, but data from phase 3 trials are lacking to determine the role of TILs in treating advanced melanoma. Methods In this phase 3, multicenter, open-label trial, we randomly assigned patients with unresectable stage IIIC or IV melanoma in a 1:1 ratio to receive TIL or anti-cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 therapy (ipilimumab at 3 mg per kilogram of body weight). Infusion of at least 5×109 TILs was preceded by nonmyeloablative, lymphodepleting chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide plus fludarabine) and followed by high-dose interleukin-2. The primary end point was progression-free survival. Results A total of 168 patients (86% with disease refractory to anti-programmed death 1 treatment) were assigned to receive TILs (84 patients) or ipilimumab (84 patients). In the intention-to-treat population, median progression-free survival was 7.2 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 4.2 to 13.1) in the TIL group and 3.1 months (95% CI, 3.0 to 4.3) in the ipilimumab group (hazard ratio for progression or death, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.35 to 0.72; P<0.001); 49% (95% CI, 38 to 60) and 21% (95% CI, 13 to 32) of the patients, respectively, had an objective response. Median overall survival was 25.8 months (95% CI, 18.2 to not reached) in the TIL group and 18.9 months (95% CI, 13.8 to 32.6) in the ipilimumab group. Treatment-related adverse events of grade 3 or higher occurred in all patients who received TILs and in 57% of those who received ipilimumab; in the TIL group, these events were mainly chemotherapy-related myelosuppression. Abstract

Background Immune checkpoint inhibitors and targeted therapies have dramatically improved outcomes in patients with advanced melanoma, but approximately half these patients will not have a durable benefit. Phase 1-2 trials of adoptive cell therapy with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) have shown promising responses, but data from phase 3 trials are lacking to determine the role of TILs in treating advanced melanoma. Methods In this phase 3, multicenter, open-label trial, we randomly assigned patients with unresectable stage IIIC or IV melanoma in a 1:1 ratio to receive TIL or anti-cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 therapy (ipilimumab at 3 mg per kilogram of body weight). Infusion of at least 5×109 TILs was preceded by nonmyeloablative, lymphodepleting chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide plus fludarabine) and followed by high-dose interleukin-2. The primary end point was progression-free survival. Results A total of 168 patients (86% with disease refractory to anti-programmed death 1 treatment) were assigned to receive TILs (84 patients) or ipilimumab (84 patients). In the intention-to-treat population, median progression-free survival was 7.2 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 4.2 to 13.1) in the TIL group and 3.1 months (95% CI, 3.0 to 4.3) in the ipilimumab group (hazard ratio for progression or death, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.35 to 0.72; P<0.001); 49% (95% CI, 38 to 60) and 21% (95% CI, 13 to 32) of the patients, respectively, had an objective response. Median overall survival was 25.8 months (95% CI, 18.2 to not reached) in the TIL group and 18.9 months (95% CI, 13.8 to 32.6) in the ipilimumab group. Treatment-related adverse events of grade 3 or higher occurred in all patients who received TILs and in 57% of those who received ipilimumab; in the TIL group, these events were mainly chemotherapy-related myelosuppression. Abstract

El articulo realiza un posible análisis teórico sobre la creación del salariado estable en Uruguay hasta la actualidad. Desde un rápido recorrido de las primeras etapas, intentando dar fondo a un presente con características dispares, con avances en el reconocimiento de derechos y retrocesos en la transformación de las condiciones. La fragilidad del mercado laboral nacional, lo hace dependiente a determinaciones externas, logrando que la informalidad haya sido una característica del mercado de trabajo. Sin embargo, en los últimos quince años esto tuvo una sensible mejora, con generación de empleo privado formal y la ampliación del empleo público o en convenio con el Estado. Junto a este avance, en ese mismo período también avanzó el capitalismo de plataforma que lentamente ha venido erosionando la formalidad laboral de algunos sectores, a partir de la contratación por medio de plataformas de trabajos digitales. The article makes a possible theoretical analysis on the creation of stable salaries in Uruguay up to the present time. From a quick tour of the early stages, trying to give substance to a present with disparate characteristics, with advances in the recognition of rights and setbacks in the transformation of conditions. The fragility of the national labour market makes it dependent on external determinations, making informality a characteristic of the labour market. However, in the last fifteen years this had a noticeable improvement, with the creation of formal private employment and the expansion of public employment or in agreement with the State. Along with this advance, in the same period, platform capitalism also advanced, which has slowly been eroding the labour formality of some sectors, based on hiring through digital job platforms.

Abstract

La combinación de datos del Complejo Temperatura-Humedad relativa atmosférico (CT-HR) juega un papel muy importante en el desarrollo de experimentos y procesos físicos, químicos o biológicos. Los cambios diarios del CT-HR, así como el tiempo de humectación de diferentes ambientes permiten realizar un análisis detallado para explicar el proceso y la velocidad de degradación de materiales, particularmente metales y aleaciones. En este trabajo se presenta un estudio estadístico y sistemático del CT-HR, basado en la correlación de datos históricos de horarios diarios de Temperatura (T) y Humedad relativa (HR), para el período 2000-2003 de dos ambientes del clima tropical húmedo, localizados en el estado de Tabasco. Estas dos regiones son consideradas como urbana (Villahermosa) y marina-costera (Paraíso). El análisis estadístico del CT-HR mostró un comportamiento diferente para las dos regiones. En el caso de la atmósfera urbana, los valores de HR y T presentaron notables cambios a lo largo del día, manteniéndose este patrón durante todo el año, con variaciones típicas debido a los periodos secos y lluviosos. La atmósfera marina-costera mostró un comportamiento de HR y T parecido al de la atmósfera urbana durante los meses secos, sin embargo, para el periodo de lluvias, el comportamiento del CT-HR no desplegó cambios apreciables.
