This paper discusses the content of the cadre file of Henri H. Stahl preserved in the Archives of the University of Bucharest’s Rectorate. In the form in which it has been preserved after 1989, the personnel file of H.H. Stahl seems, from several points of view, atypical. If we compare it with the cadre files of the 1950s, it surprises by the apparent “goodwill” of the communist cadres towards H.H. Stahl. This ideological solicitude is manifested in the interpretation given to main cultural and political events in H.H. Stahl’s life. In other circumstances such political past could be labeled as unusable in a communist context. Equally curious and noteworthy is the issue of the ethnic origin attributed (and not necessarily real or assumed by the one described in the file), more precisely the issue of Stahl’s nationality ( Jewish) which was recorded in the file. Analyzing Stahl cadre file we can wonder if the integrity of this dossier has not been compromised by removing, extracting or modifying documents by the personel staff services or by someone else. INDUSTRIAL buildings ,DOCUMENTATION ,CULTURAL activities ,SMART cities ,MOBILE apps - Abstract
In Greece, the appreciation of industrial buildings is relatively recent, with the legal authorities having recognized their historical value by listing them as monuments. Nineteenth century industrial buildings can be identified as cultural monuments of the past, as well as assist in the reconstruction of urban landscapes. Additionally, individual initiatives, organized by volunteers, present the necessity for documentation through relevant research projects. The reuse of industrial buildings for cultural activities has lately become a common practice. In Athens, a large number of buildings dated to the industrial revolution and that present historical and architectural features worthy of being preserved have been recorded. Following the philosophy of smart cities, this paper presents a digital inventory of the industrial buildings located in the historical center of Athens; many of which have recently been adapted to host cultural activities. Τhe use of smart technology, by creating a digital application for smart phones, will provide access to a continuously enriched registry, via interactive maps. This initiative will promote the buildings' past and present use and, moreover, the creative concept of their multiple functions. The suggested model of cultural management is applicable to every industrial building in Athens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyzes the development of female-friendly employment and labor market policies, focusing on the case of South Korea, whose government has pursued an increase in women's employment in the labor market over the past decade under the pressure of social, economic, and demographic challenges. It examines the three policy cases — Affirmative Action, the creation of good quality part-time employment, and the flexible work arrangement system —, all of which have been actively promoted by the government to assist female workers participating in the labor market. In this paper, I argue that South Korean policy-makers have made various efforts to boost female labor force participation as p art of its economic growth strategy, but have achieved very limited outcomes in the improvement of the quality and quantity of women's employment. Discussions of the Korean Wave all too often assume that the export of Korean cultural products is a one-way flow with beneficial consequences and that it is uncontested and unstoppable, destined to fill cultural spaces in East Asia and the world. This paper argues that Hallyu is not occurring in a vacuum, for it exists in the context of national, economic, and increasingly cultural competition. The paper first examines how the South Korean government is actively seeking to enhance its soft power through Hallyu, especially through the development of creative industries and the export of cultural products. The paper also shows how Korea’s head start in fostering creative industries and developing soft power has prompted its neighboring countries, especially China and Japan, to broaden and accelerate their own cultural industrial policies to enhance their soft power. Thus, the phenomenon of Hallyu is as much a cause to take heed as it is to celebrate. Not only does this upsurge in cultural exports encourage the Korean government towards an even more instrumental use of the Korean Wave, but its ongoing success also shows Korea’s competitors how to structure and promote their own cultural industries. It is a blueprint just waiting to be recycled and duplicated and twisted into new shapes and forms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COLLEGE students , *HISTORICAL fiction , *CENSORSHIP , *PUBLIC spaces , *RACISM , *CULTURAL activities - Abstract
The main aim of this paper is to examine the perceptions from a group of university students about a series of events related to cultural cancellation. PREVIOUS STUDIES. The concept of censorship has been analysed from different perspectives like the ones from Bourdieu (1990) or Foucult (1999), which turned first into political correcteness (Manfredi, 2018) and then into cultural cancellation (Fourest, 2021; Ochieng, 2022). METHOD. A questionnaire was designed and filled out by 298 subjects, through which they were inquired about their stance on the following events: (1) the elimination of 200 folk tales from a library because of the sexist message attributed to them (2019); (2) the attempt to exclude the film Gone with the Wind from some broadcast platforms and the cancellation of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird in the USA, since both were said to have racist connotations (2020); (3) the removal of statues from public spaces for bolstering racism (2020). RESULTS. Results reveal that most participants are against cancellation, although to a different degree if the events are related to fiction or to historical representation of reality. Likewise, those that oppose cancellation display a larger cultural knowledge about the incidents under consideration. Another remarkable result is the high rate of indecisiveness amongst the group of participants. DISCUSSION. The two essential findings of the present study are: 1) the wide array of perceptions about cancel culture and 2) the significant influence that cultural knowledge exerts on those perceptions. INDIAN cooking (South Asian) ,TRADITIONAL knowledge ,CULTURAL activities ,THEMATIC analysis ,RITES & ceremonies ,SEMI-structured interviews ,PARTICIPATION - Abstract
Chetti or Peranakan Indian cuisine is a historical creolized minority ethnic cuisine of Malaysia that carries the gene of the country's multi-ethnic sociocultural development. Its culinary heritage is a unique blend of South Indian, Malay, and Nyonya cuisines. Despite its unique role in symbolizing Malaysia's status as a multicultural nation, little is documented about the ethnic cuisine. The fact that the Chetti ethnic population is extremely small and continually shrinking means that the future of Chetti cuisine is uncertain. In this context, this paper aims to investigate the role of the younger Chetti generation in reviving the ethnic culinary heritage and the transmission of Chetti traditional food knowledge (TFK) in the contemporary setting. There is evidence that the younger Chetti generation are straying from their culture's traditional cuisine due to migration, modernization, and urbanization, among other reasons. There are concerns that this may lead to the extinction of Chetti culinary heritage. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight younger Chetti participants in the Chetti village of Gajah Berang, Melaka. The qualitative data obtained from the interviews was analyzed using thematic analysis and revealed four relevant themes. The study found that the younger Chetti generation is relatively knowledgeable about their ethnic culinary heritage but overall unskilled. Whilst they predominantly learn about their culture's cuisine from their mothers, it was found that Chetti ceremonies and festivals, as well as participation in other cultural events, also contribute to TFK transfer among the younger Chetti generation. The paper, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Czech author Jan Vladislav, describes his literary activities in the field of poetry, prose, translation, literary criticism, essays and literary work for children and youth. The author describes Vladislav's work as an editor and publisher through which he co-created a parallel model of culture and literature during the normalization process in Czechoslovakia. One of the aims of the paper is to promote Vladislav's Slovak roots reflected in numerous literary works in which he returns to his childhood in Hlohovec. In addition to his broad literary, artistic, cultural and intellectual activities, and despite the fact that he is considered a figure of Czech literature, the paper comments on the generally overlooked inspiration which he drew from his birthplace. Therefore his name is not well-known in our cultural context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CULTURAL activities ,LEISURE ,CONSUMER goods ,CULTURAL capital ,CONSUMER attitudes - Abstract
This article reports the results of an analysis of participation across a range of leisure activities in the UK. This work follows that of Chris Hand and Jay Singh in the January 2014 issue of IJMR, which analysed participation and partitioning in the UK betting market using the same UK government DCMS Taking Part database. Our paper uses a duplication technique, widely used in other consumer goods markets, which gives a clear understanding of the polygamous portfolio structure of leisure choices, revealing for the first time how choice processes for free-time activities are similar to those for other consumer goods. The results show that leisure activities of all kinds compete for the free-time choices of all consumers. The market has some partitioning - for example, 'cultural' activities attract more overlapping customers than expected. However, those in this group do not participate in these activities to the exclusion of more populist ones they are at least as likely to participate in those too. We contrast this with the extant literature, much of which suggests more marked segmentation between leisure activities. This has major implications for the purveyors of competitive offerings; in particular it means that whether marketing 'cultural' or 'leisure' activities, strategies that emphasise reaching the largest possible number of occasional customers are most likely to succeed. BUILDING design & construction ,FLEXIBILITY (Mechanics) ,CULTURAL activities - Abstract
Flexibility overtime has been known to enhance the peculiarity of a space, making spaces adaptable to multipurpose use, without altering the functional requirements. The design features and techniques that allow for changing situations in the use and operation of spaces are the focus of this paper. Components such as walls, floors and roofs are the design features that affect space in any building. Event centres being hubs for cultural and social activities, attract an unpredictable population, hence the need for flexible venues for event centres which are fast becoming stable and developing features of any city. The study assessed available event centres and the design features used to achieve flexibility, examining their adaptation to inadequacy of event spaces in selected event centres in Minna Niger state. Observation schedules was used as instrument to obtain data, the data collected was then analysed using Microsoft excel. It was observed from the study that all event centres had adaptability as their flexible design approach and this is as a result of the use of large open spaces, however 80% of event centres in Minna, Niger state failed to have flexible design features. The 20% that provided few of these features used curtain as flexible design elements. The paper recommended that design features for flexibility such as moveable walls, retractable roofs and sitting should be used in event centre designs to achieve an effective flexible design. Tourists who visit a city for the first time may find it difficult to decide on places to visit, as the amount of information in the Web about cultural and leisure activities may be large. Recommender systems address this problem by suggesting the points of interest that fit better with the user's preferences. This paper presents a novel recommender system that leverages tweets to build user profiles, taking into account not only their personal preferences but also their travel habits. Association rules, which are mined from the previous visits of users documented on Twitter, are used to make the final recommendations of places to visit. The system has been applied to data of the city of Barcelona, and the results show that the use of the social media-based clustering procedure increases its performance according to several relevant metrics. Tourism based on myths, legends and folk tales which is regarded as a subset of Cultural tourism has received less attention as compared to cultural events based on documented history. Journeying to places based on their literary association is highly researched; this paper however, explores the relationship between tourism and myths, legends and folk tales. It seeks to explore the link between myths, legends and folk tales of the Hynñiew Treps/Khasis, a tribal/indigenous community of Meghalaya in North-East India and tourism. This present piece of research aims to study the extent to which myths, legends and folk tales are considered by the Hynñiew Treps of Meghalaya to contribute to meaning making and identity transmission to tourists visiting the place. The Hynñiew Treps of Meghalaya are a story telling people and have a strong oral tradition and practices. The study was based on an in-depth interview method to a sample of local stakeholders comprising village and provincial heads, members of village council, tourism practitioners, and members of cultural organizations, state government officials from tourism and culture department. The results showed 50% participants are only moderately aware about myths, legends and folk tales, although at the same time they tend to assign a market value to this type of oral tradition which is associated with cultural tourism. It is then suggested that the valuing of oral traditions such as myths, legends and folk tales as a tourist resource should therefore be re-assessed to allow local people, to integrate this form of popular cultural expression as their own rather than being for others (visitors). This in turn leads us to the need to rethink current culture development dynamics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Kantujira is an initiative which, once a month, convokes a substantial number of people in order to sing traditional songs in Basque in the streets of the Old Quarter of Donostia (as well as in different neighbourhoods in the city). There are similar initiatives in towns and cities throughout the Basque Country. In this paper, I analyse the multiple dimensions of the Kantujira, which is much more than a cultural event and a way of maintaining tradition, since it plays a significant role in sociability and in shaping collective identity, while at the same time it is a form of resistance and of protest; a resistance with a particular feature, that it is made up and expressed on the basis of shared pleasure, the pleasure of singing in a group in the street, so we can consider it as a playful form of resistance. My aim is to show that we cannot understand the satisfaction of group singing without alluding to all these other dimensions. In order to achieve that, I base the study on information gathered during my ethnographic participation in the Kantujira since early 2017 to present. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CULTURAL property ,CULTURAL pluralism ,BUILT environment ,THEMATIC analysis ,CULTURAL activities ,USER-generated content - Abstract
This paper reports on the exploration of potential design opportunities for social media and technology to identify issues and challenges in involving people in generating content within a cultural heritage context. The work is divided into two parts. In the first part, arguments are informed by findings from 22 in-depth semi-structured interviews with representatives of cultural institutions and with people from a general audience who recently participated in a cultural activity. The key findings show that social media could be used more extensively to achieve a deeper understanding of cultural diversity, with opportunities in redefining the expert, extending the experience space, and decentralising collaboration. To further support these findings, a case study was set up evaluating the experience of a mini audio tour with user-generated (i.e., personal stories from a local audience) vs. non user-generated (i.e., professional stories including facts) narratives. These were delivered using text and 3D sound on a mobile device. The narratives were related to a built environment in central London near world-renown museums, cultural buildings, and a royal park. Observations, a standardised spatial presence questionnaire, and a short open interview at the end of the tour were used to gain insights about participants preferences and overall experience. Thematic analysis and triangulation were used as a means for understanding and articulating opportunities for social media to better involve and engage people using user-generated narratives presented through 3D sound. The article is focused on the mobility of museum collections today in Slovakia and Czechia. The paper begins with a brief overview of the first specialist conferences to focus on the issue of collections mobility in Europe. It continues with an overview of present-day information support for sharing collections between museums in Slovakia and Czechia. It analyses the online activities of museums and cultural institutions and currently literature on the issue, as well as changes to legislation which affect the awareness of collections mobility and facilitate the process of loaning collection objects between museums. In particular, it summarises changes to the Slovak Law no. 207/2009 on conditions pertaining to the export and import of objects of cultural significance, which was amended in 2018. The conclusion includes a brief list of the most basic and, at the same time, the latest approaches to collections mobility in Europe. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This chapter shares assessment results from a 4-year undergraduate Ignatian leadership program. The Haddix Dean's Fellows program consists of several curricular and co-curricular elements, including cohort-based seminars, a common summer read, an annual retreat, social and cultural activities, and a concluding leadership immersion experience. Learning formats throughout the four years included lectures, small and large group discussions, and workshops. For the immersion experience, the Dean's Fellows participated in preparatory lectures that included information on cultural intelligence, anticipatory reflection, Ignatian leadership, and discernment, as well as topical information. In order to ensure and improve program outcomes, assessment processes were developed, and data included both quantitative and qualitative measures. Rothausen provided a theoretical framework that aligns secular leadership development models with Ignatian leadership.1 Unfortunately, validated measures of Ignatian leadership do not exist to date. To address this limitation, we utilized instruments drawn from the field of leadership studies that logically approximate values and practices found within the Ignatian leadership paradigm. We also conducted a focus group with students completing the 4-year experience and collected pre- and post- program reflection papers. Results from both quantitative and qualitative approaches along with both practical and pedagogical suggestions are offered for those seeking to build a similar program. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The infrastructure contains a supporting element, with a special importance to support all economic, social and cultural activities in the rural area. The infrastructure covers both structural area giving unity to the system and space area, thus creating a viable territorial configuration, which is reflected by different levels of accessibility. It is actually the circulatory framework of the economic and social system, individualized in a well determined space, as the regional one. South Muntenia region is characterized by a well defined infrastructure as a result of its advantageous geographical position. Its location in a peripheral area of Romania favored the emergence of major road ways, which allowed the development of its relations not only with neighboring national regions, but also with neighboring country Bulgaria. The present paper analyses the educational and medical infrastructure in the region, showing thus the discrepancies in the education and medical system and equipment across the region. It is pertinent analysis allowing the make improvements in this area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Globalization belongs to a global financial and political structure and is achieved through regionalization. Regions are far easier to be managed than countries, thus coming into prominence states division into regions, the action having a strong impact politically and financially. The decisions can be made for developing an interest in a certain region belonging to two or more countries, but each having its own history. Thus, Member States are required a new territorial organization and the formation of provinces with historic name in the countries where the interest has to be developed. Various economic and cultural activities are financed so as to be developed the common regional spirit. Thus, countries will be included in a union and this leads to the disappearance of borders, thereby contributing, through regionalization, to the achievement of globalization process. This paper aims to provide insights in globalization process by comparing the evolutions in the USA, Japan, EU and China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a new line of inquiry into when and how music as a semiotic system was born. Eleven principal expressive aspects of music each contains specific structural patterns whose configuration signifies a certain affective state. This distinguishes the tonal organization of music from the phonetic and prosodic organization of natural languages and animal communication. The question of music's origin can therefore be answered by establishing the point in human history at which all eleven expressive aspects might have been abstracted from the instinct-driven primate calls and used to express human psycho-emotional states. Etic analysis of acoustic parameters is the prime means of cross-examination of the typical patterns of expression of the basic emotions in human music versus animal vocal communication. A new method of such analysis is proposed here. Formation of such expressive aspects as meter, tempo, melodic intervals, and articulation can be explained by the influence of bipedal locomotion, breathing cycle, and heartbeat, long before Homo sapiens. However, two aspects, rhythm and melodic contour, most crucial for music as we know it, lack proxies in the Paleolithic lifestyle. The available ethnographic and developmental data leads one to believe that rhythmic and directional patterns of melody became involved in conveying emotion-related information in the process of frequent switching from one call-type to another within the limited repertory of calls. Such calls are usually adopted for the ongoing caretaking of human youngsters and domestic animals. The efficacy of rhythm and pitch contour in affective communication must have been spontaneously discovered in new important cultural activities. The most likely scenario for music to have become fully semiotically functional and to have spread wide enough to avoid extinctions is the formation of cross-specific communication between humans and domesticated animals during the Neolithic demographic explosion and the subsequent cultural revolution. Changes in distance during such communication must have promoted the integration between different expressive aspects and generated the basic musical grammar. The model of such communication can be found in the surviving tradition of Scandinavian pastoral music - kulning. This article discusses the most likely ways in which such music evolved. The global integration of economic, social and cultural activities has pushed the importance of translation to a new level. With the sheer volume of translation, and the increased demand for near instantaneous translation, there is a growing reliance on technological systems. This paper begins from the assumption that an examination of the conceptual foundations of translation is needed to understand the growing reliance on technological systems. The philosophy of language in later Wittgenstein provides a rich resource for reconsidering current translation theories and practice, especially his ideas concerning "language games" and his theory of meaning. This paper discusses translation from a Wittgensteinian perspective and urges caution against over-reliance on technological systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this paper is to contribute to further clarifying the characteristics of marine culture in the Northeast of Vietnam from the theory of cultural ecology. The research results of the article will also be a scientific basis to contribute to the study of Vietnam's sea and islands from the science of culture. In order to carry out this research, the author uses an analytical-synthesis method, which is used to deeply understand the research object, combining a comparative approach to show the similarities and differences between the marine culture of Northeast Sea and some other areas in Vietnam. The author attaches special importance to the practical survey method: participating in cultural activities of residents of some localities in the Northeast Sea of Vietnam (such as Quan Lan Island, Co To Island, Cat Ba Island...), and conducting interviews with people for the purpose of truly describing phenomena related to marine culture. Previous studies in Vietnam only focused on describing the appearance. They stated the values of Vietnamese coastal culture and some localities in the Northeast, but the theory of approach in marine culture research is unclear. This research uses the theoretical framework of cultural ecology to affirm: the people in the Northeastern region of Vietnam with their thinking have created ways to adapt to the natural environment and always creating material and spiritual values that bring about the highest adaptation to nature to benefit their life activities. The research results of this article can be used as a reference for the culture of the islands in the Northeast in particular and the Vietnamese culture in general, including theoretical research on marine culture, as well as the analysis of marine cultural characteristics from cultural ecology theory. Culinary tourism, like any type of tourism is an economic activity, but it is part of the culture of the defined region. Therefore, practicing culinary tourism should be perceived primarily as a cultural enrichment of the individual person. The aim of the research is to establish the degree of interest in the practice of culinary tourism in Bulgaria; Preferences in a particular culinary area; Expectations from practicing culinary tourism. In order to achieve this objective, it is necessary to carry out the following tasks: To prepare an inquiry card; To conduct the survey among consumers; To carry out statistical treatment and analyse the results of the survey; To summarize conclusions. To achieve the purpose of the survey was conducted questionnaires - in person and through online form (inquiry card), in the period 05.11.2018 - 22.12.2018 year, among 104 people aged 18 to 51 years. The questionnaire contains 20 questions of different types - open, closed, multivariate. From the analysis of the results of the study, the following are summarized: respondents practice different types of tourism, and culinary is also present in their preferences. Through an appropriate advertising and marketing strategy, this interest can be strengthened and more actors attract. Respondents would visit each of the tourist areas in Bulgaria for culinary tourism, but as the most preferred they have defined the Rhodopi region. Respondents would be motivated to travel if it offered them a new, different experience; has a good quality/price ratio; It is related to the consumption of traditional as well as unique food and drinks. They are interested in local traditions, lifestyle and culture and would visit festivals, holidays, and domestic/traditional restaurants. The vast majority of respondents believe that the best advertising of culinary tourism can be accomplished through specialized sites, radio and television. They like long weekends outside their own location; The most preferred period for participation in culinary tourism is from 1 to 3 days. For a period of such a duration would allocate between 150 and 300 BGN, this amount does not include the cost of transport and accommodation. Respondents are young people, mostly women, most - family, highly educated and most of them live in a big city; Decide to participate in culinary tourism independently. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents the importance of using Earth observation to assess the impact of fire events on monitoring cultural heritage sites. The use of sensors such as Sentinel 2 can detect burnt areas in order to determine the extent of fire events on cultural heritage sites, using the fire event in Arakapas, Cyprus as a case study. Sentinel-2 is a multispectral optical sensor acquiring information in a range extending from the visible up to the short-wave infrared, which is the most sensitive spectral range for the detection of damages caused by fire. Sentinel-2 can support cultural heritage monitoring and assessment allowing rapid revisit of any site of interest using pre- and post-event images, where burned areas can be detected with change detection techniques coupled with suitable, spectral indices. Such derived products assist in quickly raising awareness on the endangerment of cultural and natural heritage sites and landscapes, emphasising the importance of Earth observation data for monitoring natural hazards for the protection of valuable cultural heritage sites. Rudolf Matz (1901-1988) was a versatile Croatian musician, known and recognized in the domestic and international cultural community primarily as a cellist pedagogue and composer. This paper provides insight on his lesser-known organizational and conducting activity in the Croatian Singing Association (Hrvatski pjevački savez) during the particularly significant period of the reorganization of the Association’s work in 1924 and 1925. In 1919, Matz founded the Musical Society of Intellectuals in Zagreb with whom, as its artistic leader, he achieved a rapid artistic rise. In 1924 he was elected general secretary and conductor of the Association of Croatian Singing Societies or the Croatian Singing Association. At that time, the Association was already a respected institution with a fifty-year history and would remain active in Zagreb until 1947. As a well-organized umbrella organization, the Association made a significant contribution to Croatian musical culture by encouraging the activities of a large number of Croatian singing societies, which functioned as centers of cultural activity in their respective communities. During the period of Matz’s involvement (1924-1941), the Association notably strengthened its activities in the organization of compositional, publishing and ethnomusicological work, created strong connections with other European Slavic nations, and acted as a representative of Croatian cultural identity in the field of music. Due to unstable Croatian political conditions, the work of the Croatian Singing Association was difficult. At the beginning of 1924, during a period of crisis caused by pressure from Belgrade, the center of political power at the time, a young Rudolf Matz, then a student of composition at the Royal Academy of Music in Zagreb, was given the prominent role of general secretary and then choirmaster of the Croatian Singing Association. After he actively participated in opposing the pressure from Belgrade to create a centralized Yugoslav Singing Association, thereby ensuring the survival of the Association as an independent organization, Matz became enthusiastically active in the organization of the work of the Association and the singing societies, creating important documents and regulations. The minutes of the meetings of the presidency and the central board of the Association from 1924 and 1925 contain valuable information about his central role in designing the »Rules of the Association of Croatian Singing Societies’ Counties in Zagreb«, which formed the basis for the organization of thirteen regional singing centers with a total of 100 Croatian singing societies. Also important are the documents created by Matz, which enabled the classification of choirs according to their artistic level. In addition to conducting, Rudolf Matz played a key role in the reorganization of the work of the Croatian Singing Association, while at the same time encouraging an orientation toward the national style in programming. He had an overall impact on the improvement of the artistic work of the Croatian Singing Association and the performance practice of numerous Croatian singing societies, evident as early as 1925 at concerts celebrating the 1000th anniversary of the Croatian kingdom and the 50th anniversary of the Association. This was just the beginning of the strong momentum that Rudolf Matz gave to the Croatian choral movement in the period between the two world wars, resulting in a valuable longterm contribution to musical and cultural development in Croatia. Stop the presses! Or should that be, restart the presses? On Monday, the theater said that a stage version of ''Newsies'' would be the opening production at the 2011-12 season of the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J., and would feature music by Alan Menken (the film's original composer) and Jack Feldman (its original lyricist) as well as a new book by Harvey Fierstein. Tourism represents in Romania one of the economic sectors with real possibilities for long-term development, also being a means of creating and improving the image of our country abroad. A dominant feature of tourism activity is seasonality, which must be taken into account when proposing and formulating marketing policies. This is also one of the difficulties faced by tourism companies. In order to be able to make forecasts but also lay the foundations for strategies of evolution and sustainable development of a tourist area, it is necessary to take into account all the environmental characteristics of the area in which it is desired to carry out a tourist activity, but also the evolution of its components. Seasonality in tourism can be influenced by various factors such as: the natural ones (the change of seasons or climate), the periodicity of cultural activities and manifestations, but also the organizational factors related to the periods of holidays, holidays, holidays. The main purpose of this paper was to determine the seasonality of the tourist demand and implicitly its degree of concentration throughout Tulcea County, taking into consideration the period 2010-2018. The study of the phenomenon of concentrating the tourist activity in certain months and implicitly the need to attenuate the seasonality curve in the tourist reception structures is a way to understand the evolution of the tourist activity over a period of time. The identification of the tendency of this curve for the following periods can lead to the elaboration of solutions that can eliminate the factors that influence the seasonality of the tourist activity. The main purpose of the research is to examine selected demand factors for cultural events in tourism in the Czech Republic. Eight hypotheses are formulated. The primary research was carried out in the form of a questionnaire. There were 1666 respondents interviewed in various tourist destinations in the Czech Republic. While testing the hypotheses the Friedman test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, the Mann-Whitney U test, and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient are used. We confirm the hypotheses that the residents of the Czech Republic think that cultural events are organized more frequently than sports events, shopping events (e.g. markets, trades), exhibitions and fairs, and religious events in the Czech Republic, the motives for participation in cultural events are mainly experience and entertainment, women more often participate in cultural events than men, men more often attend sports events than women, and people take the greatest pleasure to participate in cultural events and not in the other events (sports events, shopping events, exhibitions and fairs, and religious events). We reject the hypotheses that summer is the best season for organizing events, that families are more likely to participate in cultural events than single people or people with friends, and that advertising in mass media has the greatest influence on the decision to visit cultural events. The benefit of the paper is to focus the research on a new area of tourism development in the Czech Republic – organizing events at tourist destinations and trying to reveal the impact of various factors on demand for cultural events. Organization of events in tourism is a relatively large area, therefore, it opens further possibilities of exploring this issue in terms of the organized events' impact on tourist destinations, the offering of organized events, managing organized events.
