The ecosystem system services framework has potential to help clarify wildlife management challenges at the single species scale, but existing methods struggle to capture the complex values and tradeoffs at play in human–wildlife interactions. We worked with community scientists to gather and use stories (n = 150) as a source of ecosystem services data about living alongside eastern coyotes (Canis latrans var) in rural Vermont, United States. Our a priori ecosystem service assessment showed that human–coyote interactions can have simultaneous positive and negative human well‐being impacts at both the sample scale and for individual interviewees. Our research identified emergent themes that lent insight into how interviewees justified different kinds of relationships with coyotes. We applied a tradeoffs lens to evaluate three policy options based on their potential to mitigate ecosystem disservices and maximize ecosystem services from human–coyote interactions. We found that ecosystem services assessment rooted in a dataset of stories revealed policy‐relevant understanding of value conflicts and alignments at the sample scale without overshadowing the nuances of individual interviewees' experiences. This article reflects on the assumptions we make in the design of faculty and graduate student orientations and on the implementation of redesigned orientations that foreground participant narrative. When educational developers purposefully make space for participant stories at their orientations, it is a way not only to share power with graduate students and faculty but also to create a more inclusive environment and sense of belonging. We offer a reflection on educational developer and participant experiences of small narrative interventions in graduate student and faculty orientations at our university in 2021. We find that through foregrounding story sharing we were able to shift from assimilation to acculturation by including, cultivating, and honoring diverse views, creating community, and promoting agency. In the Netherlands, there was always a clear distinction between Protestant and Catholic folklore. That is visible in witchcraft accusations, but it is also visible in ghost lore. This lore is here reconstructed applying a not always used source, to wit newspaper articles. Here, I will discuss how accounts of hoaxing on the one hand and misinterpreted experiences on the other, help to understand how, in this case people in the Netherlands of roughly a century to a century and a half ago, realized their imagination of the dead. Not in a paradisical kind of afterlife, or as rotten corpses in the ground, but as specific entities which permeated the boundaries between the living and the dead. These newspaper reports are confronted with the stories (or jokes) collected by folklorists. I will also discuss content, with a special focus on the phenomenon of the hoax. Hoaxsters, however, allow the researcher to engage with an extra dimension in the encounter, between the ghost and the observer there is now a third party interacting with both. (How this involves the researcher, is always a problem in historical research.) Was there an overall ghost picture? What was the reaction of bystanders? Moreover, this essay will move between story and history, between the past as it was experienced and as it was related to contemporaries, between 'fact' and 'fiction' to give it another name. This study examines the phases and dynamics of workplace bullying (WB) as a social positioning phenomenon within moral orders. Applying the positioning theory (PT) and the relational model of WB, the study analyses 136 written online stories of WB, utilizing narrative analysis of positioning in self-other relationships. The findings, limited to the perspective of the bullied (targets), identify four distinct storylines of WB that involve different forms of positioning: (1) the loss of health and ability to work, (2) passive acceptance of bullying, (3) unresolved conflict, and (4) active opponent in bullying. These findings shed light on the development and variations in WB storylines regarding the target, perpetrator, and work community, with a focus on the organizational and interpersonal power dynamics associated with WB. Furthermore, each WB storyline emphasizes the diverse strategies employed in response to WB and the various paths WB can follow over time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many scholars have cautioned that the use of Western research methods is problematic in studies with Indigenous communities given colonialist histories that have exploited Indigenous populations. One solution has been to utilize a Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach to enhance equity in research partnerships. Employing a CBPR approach, however, does not necessitate the inclusion of Indigenous Research Methods, an additional step that can further benefit studies with their explicit alignment with Indigenous worldviews and values. In a CBPR project aiming to understand Indigenous harm reduction clients' perspectives of barriers and facilitators to opioid use disorder treatment, our research group assembled a multidisciplinary qualitative data analysis team that included diverse tribal community members and academics. Sparse literature was available to guide the use of Indigenous Research Methods for the qualitative data analysis phase of the research. To address this gap, the aims of this process paper are: (1) to describe the implementation of the Collaborative Story Analysis method, and (2) in the Indigenous tradition of honoring and sharing stories, describe our analysis team's experiences and perceptions of implementing this Indigenous Research Method. Through a series of process discussions, the analysis team found that applying the Collaborative Story Analysis method: (1) honored relationships and story, (2) strengthened the depth of analysis, and (3) exhibited tensions when working in a dominant Western culture. Through sharing our team's experiences, the aspiration is that others can use these insights in their own consideration and implementation of an Indigenous Research Method for qualitative data analysis.

Drawing upon the Schiffrin’s analytical model of footing, positioning, and stances as mechanisms for reframing and re-voicing experiences, this study (as a qualitative approach) investigates the contextualization of an event through the narration of stories in the practical domain of political discourse, specifically presidential speeches. To accomplish this goal, a discourse analysis is conducted on four stories in four political speeches delivered by Barack Obama, the former president of the United States to identify the evolution in their structural composition. The model of attitudinal stance proposed by Qaiwer is integrated into the analysis. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the concept of hegemony seeking within the framework of narrative-based discourse analysis. The focus is on the correlation between the narrative and the formation of attitudes, rather than on the narrative itself. The analysis reveals variations in the four recounted versions presented by Obama in different contexts. These noticeable changes and discrepancies may be attributed to the specific objectives of each speech, whether focused on self/other campaigning or policy advocacy.

On arrival in a host country, asylum‐seeking children face uncertainty and stress that may compound past traumatic experiences of war and violence. This article is based on a participatory action research project, Welcome Haven, that aims to promote the wellbeing and mental health of asylum‐seeking families in Montreal, Canada, through psychosocial workshops. Since 2023, our interdisciplinary team has conducted arts‐based workshops to support asylum‐seeking children lodged in hotels that function as temporary accommodations, funded by the federal government. This study examines the drawings and narratives of participating children (ages 5–17) to understand how children communicate and make sense of their experiences through artmaking. Following a participatory action research framework using arts‐based approaches, we use narrative and thematic analysis to analyze our (a) ethnographic field notes, (b) notes from our intervention team meetings, which functioned as peer supervision for facilitators, and (c) photographs of children’s artwork. Our findings suggest that children use drawings to share and externalize their personal stories and to express fears and hopes for the future. Importantly, children’s expression happened not only on the page and through stories, but in the space between facilitators and children, and in their manner of sharing or protecting their art. The challenges of conducting research and creating therapeutic alliances in these spaces are explored. This research has important implications for understanding children affected by war and those in humanitarian crisis settings, including reception centers and shelters in high‐income countries.

On the island of Fuvahmulah, Maldives, community members have learned to co-exist with resident tiger sharks. Rapidly becoming a premier destination for shark tourism, Fuvahmulah demonstrates a novel circumstance for how this often-polarizing industry can both bolster the local economy and strengthen shark conservation efforts. Focusing on personal storytelling, this project delivers a 5-part video series and interactive website featuring video portraitures of locals involved in and impacted by the industry. The impact of human-induced climate change poses a significant danger to both the natural environment and societies worldwide. Despite being widely acknowledged, the situation persists and continues to deteriorate. Communicating this issue beyond the scientific community is a complex and difficult endeavor. Climate change is unfolding on a time scale that is difficult for humans to grasp and comprehend. My Capstone project is an example of using storytelling, rather than scientific results, to create a bridge that connects people to the world of climate change science and those who dedicate themselves to its pursuit. Storytelling has the power to invoke emotions, increase knowledge, and inspire action. It serves as a vital method of passing down wisdom from one generation to the next. By embracing storytelling across generations, we can preserve a baseline of what is considered normal and prevent it from shifting. My short film, "Climate Stories From Generations of Changemakers”, shares the personal stories and emotions of young students and senior professors at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, whose work is highly impacted by climate change. Through a series of interviews and conversations, the film offers glimpses into the life stories of these changemakers, showcasing their actions and hoping to inspire others to take action as well. Urban households are an intimate nexus of food and food waste, connecting people to challenges of sustainability and inequality, in wider food systems. Household food waste (HFW) studies, including those which explored consumption practices during COVID-19, have tended to emphasize the reduction in food waste as part of behaviour change. In 2018/19 an exploratory, interdisciplinary, mixed method study was conducted of HFW perceptions and practices of urban residents in The Hague (Netherlands) with purposeful sampling (n = 19), speaking either Dutch, English or Arabic. Participants took photographs of their HFW for photovoice interviews and focus group HFW stories. The research provided a space for participants to become self-aware of the explicit and implicit understanding of their food practices and their household food waste and its related practices (i.e. food-related packaging). This finding resonated across all hierarchical levels of waste management from best practices, such as, reduction to mixed waste least preferred options. Performing HFW appears to lack comprehensive ecological contextualisation as per the latter part of the urban food system. Dutch and English-speaking focus groups seemed mostly unaware of ‘what happened next’ to their disposed HFW and food-related packaging, whilst the Arabic speaking focus group appeared more comprehensively ecosystem attuned. Given the impetus to a zero-waste more sustainable lifestyle, the transitory implications of knowing more explicitly about ‘what happens next’ to different forms of urban HFW disposal, once it is ‘out of sight’, could potentially offer insights into reconfigured routine HFW performance and therefore require further research.

Background: Integrated care is based around values of involvement and shared decision‐making, but these are not often reflected within planning and implementation. Barriers include continued emphasis on professional and managerial perspectives, skills gaps on how best to engage people and communities and insufficient investment in involvement infrastructure. Despite such challenges, people with lived experience have still led changes in policy and services. Design: Qualitative study involving 25 participants with lived experience from 12 countries. Participants shared their background stories and engaged in semistructured interviews relating to leadership identity, experience of influencing and personal learning. Transcripts were analysed through a framework approach informed by narrative principles. Results: Participants were motivated by their own experiences and a wish to improve care for future individuals and communities. Sharing their story was often the entry point for such influencing. Participants gained skills and confidence in story telling despite a lack of support and development. Many felt comfortable being described as a leader while others rejected this identity and preferred a different title. No common alternative term to leader was identified. Influencing services required considerable personal cost but also led to new networks, skills development and satisfaction when change was achieved. Discussion: Leadership within integrated care is often awarded to those with structural power related to management or clinical seniority. People with lived experience are though uniquely placed to identify what needs to change and can develop inspiring visions based around their personal stories. Claiming identity as leader can be challenging due to traditional notions of who is eligible to lead and unwillingness by professionals and managers to grant such identity. Conclusions: People with lived experience should be recognised as leaders of integrated care and have access to developmental opportunities and practical support to strengthen their skills, including that of storytelling. Patient and Public Contribution: The research was instigated on the request of a community advisory board of people with lived experience who shaped its design, contributed to the analysis and informed the conclusions and implications. The book under review is a study of manuscript texts from Warring States and early imperial China (approximately the 5th to 2nd centuries BCE); its specific topic is “manuscript collections,” that is, “single manuscripts containing multiple (originally) distinct texts”. In this book, Rens Krijgsman explores what happened when multiple texts came to be combined on the same material carrier: How were texts selected, organized, and integrated into individual collections? What relationships obtained among these different texts? And how did collections affect reception, including interpretation and perceptions of genre? Cautious not to overstep the evidence, Krijgsman acknowledges that certain basic information about production and use of early manuscript collections is wanting: we do not (and cannot) know who collected the texts and produced the manuscripts, nor can we know who used collections. Wielding impressive command of the technical aspects of early manuscripts and of a broad range of texts, he seeks to extract as much information as possible through a careful yet comprehensive analysis of the material aspects of manuscript collections, their content, and their organization.

The power of stories in both the mother tongue and a foreign language is equal, as there is something universal about stories. They are familiar to children and use patterns that can easily help them learn. They exalt the imagination and are very helpful for both parents and educators/teachers. The special characteristics of young learners are at the same time cognitive, affective and social. Stories used in teaching address all three with great success. This article aims at looking at some practical aspects of using stories in teaching English as a foreign language to students of young ages.

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the impact of the lexico-phonological diglossic distance of story reading (a scaffolded storybook intervention, informed by Vygotsky’s theory of scaffolding and fading) on Arabic-speaking preschool children’s comprehension and receptive and productive vocabulary.MethodThe participants were 139 Israeli-Palestinian kindergartners: 71 composed an intervention group and 68 composed a comparison group. The intervention group heard stories gradually from the SpA, identical, cognate, and unique word forms, whereas the comparison group heard traditional stories unrelated to their lexico-phonological distances. Story 1 was read in unique spoken Arabic (SpA) form, stories 2 and 3 were read in 58 and 45% identical and cognate word forms, respectively, and story 4 was read in 70% unique word forms.ResultsThe results clearly showed that children’s vocabulary and story understanding was significantly higher after the intervention, especially noticeable in stories that contained a higher proportion of Standard Arabic (StA). Interestingly, the stories told entirely in Spoken Arabic (SpA) were the most effective, yielding the highest scores in both comprehension and vocabulary. Stories that mixed different word forms also performed well, though not as strongly as the SpA stories, while those solely in StA were the least effective.ConclusionThe findings of the study suggest that scaffolded storybook intervention may enhance the receptive vocabulary and comprehension skills of children. This study shows that, in the context of diglossia, stories should be read to children systematically and gradually according to the lexical-phonological distance of words in the stories.

Purpose: Does collecting and publishing rural nurse stories have impact? This article evaluates the impact of the design and content of a rural book capturing rural nurse stories across Aotearoa New Zealand. Did reading the book alter reader perception of rural nursing or have wider effects? Sample: Readers of a narrative book including rural nurses' stories and imagery from across Aotearoa New Zealand were invited to complete a survey of their impressions. There were 42 responses received, a 22 per cent response rate. Of these, four did not read the book, leaving 38 responses for analysis of impact. These included seven of the original nurse storytellers, other nurses, and non-nurses. Method: The primary method was a survey of recipients of the book. This included quantitative demographic data and qualitative open question responses. Surveys were sent via email using Qualtrics with a link for completion with two automated reminders. Findings: Reading and viewing the narratives in this book impacted positively on nurses and non-nurses' awareness of the breadth and complexity of rural nurse practice in Aotearoa New Zealand. The distribution of the book as a physical copy meant that on average each book was viewed by at least six people. The presentation of the book was important, with readers valuing the wide variety of narratives including images, maps, poetry, and stories. Over half of respondents identified that the Maori (indigenous peoples of New Zealand) content reinforced the importance of Maori health particularly in the rural setting. This narrative resource will continue to impact future health professionals' awareness of rural nursing as over one third of participants intended to use the book as a teaching resource. Conclusion: There is intrinsic and extrinsic value to rural nurses telling their stories to both nurses and a broader audience. These stories increase awareness and can influence future policy and action. To add value to the stories, include multiple narratives of place and context, including visual images. People see the world and convey their perception of it with narratives. In an information system context, stories are told and collected when the systems are developed. Requirements elicitation is largely dependent on communication between systems designers and users. Thus, stories have a significant impact on conceptualizing future users' needs. This paper presents a literature review on how stories and narratives have been considered in central IS literature. Narrative-theoretical parameters are used as a lens to analyze the literature. This shows that explicit discussion is non-existent, and the characteristics are considered partially. The result is a biased and narrow understanding of the informants' needs and wishes. This may be significant in the requirements because narratives are not as simple a form of communication as is usually assumed. It is proposed that better understanding narratives would equip systems analysts with an in-depth understanding about the nuances inherent in communication when communicating with users. Objective: Methods for characterizing mental health recovery narratives are needed to enable the selection of helpful narratives which can support the recovery processes of other people. The Inventory of Characteristics of Recovery Stories (INCRESE) is an existing English-language tool to characterize recovery narratives, which is not available in Dutch. The aims of this study were to create a Dutch translation of INCRESE and to evaluate the feasibility of sustained and routine use, as well as its validity and reliability. Research design and methods: INCRESE was translated into Dutch (INCRESE-NL) using an established translation methodology. Six coders with different professional backgrounds rated 30 purposively selected Dutch narratives using INCRESE-NL and then completed an evaluation survey. Feasibility was assessed qualitatively and content validity both qualitatively and quantitatively. Gwet's AC1 agreement coefficient was used to calculate intercoder reliability. Results: Coders evaluated INCRESE-NL as a suitable instrument to capture important characteristics of recovery narratives with an acceptable administrative burden. The content validity index was sufficient for 5/7 sections of INCRESE-NL. Most items were found to be clear and suitable for capturing the corresponding characteristic, although some missed strict coding rules or clear descriptions, especially in section 4 on narrative characteristics. Gwet's AC1 could be calculated for 67/77 items, of which 62 scored sufficient and five scored below threshold. Gwet's AC1 coefficients corresponded well with the original INCRESE Fleiss Kappa values. Conclusions: INCRESE-NL has sufficient feasibility, validity, and reliability and can be used to characterize Dutch recovery narratives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The master narrative of Apartheid South Africa created a specific identity for white boys and men and, together with this identity, a very particular role and place within the South African context. This identity was exemplified in the men who were conscripted into the military from 1967 until 1994, and who participated in operations on the border regions of Namibia and Angola as well as within local townships in the war of liberation against apartheid and minority rule. Many veterans have been left grappling not only with the traumas associated with combat but also with the loss of their identities as war heroes in a country under changed political control. As a result, many of their personal stories and experiences of combat have been silenced by society at large and also, to varying degrees, within their own families, the Church, and among the younger generation who have grown up under a different dispensation. The conflict between vacillating narratives of villains who fought on the wrong side of history and victims of a closed socialisation system has supported the identity struggle faced by many veterans today. Against this backstory, this article explores the effects of storytelling as a trauma release using a narrative approach. Contribution: This article offers a contribution to the use of storytelling in pastoral conversations as a trauma release for untold stories. This insight links to the focus and scope of the journal as a pastoral narrative approach has been used under the umbrella of Practical Theology.

The school institution works following some characteristic principles of a colonial epistemology. In this work we have related, in three voices, the experiences of a child (Lucas, 11 years old), an adolescent (Diego, 16 years old) and a father (Enrique, 44 years old) who moved from Chile to the city of Granada, Spain, and began the school experience in a public and traditional school. Based on qualitative methodological work with a narrative approach foundation and in which we have used testimonial narratives, we show the epistemological limitations of this Eurocentric school and the depoliticization of teaching work. The school narrated and experienced by Diego, Lucas and Enrique is a racialized institution characterized by: excessive homework, denial of differences, dichotomous epistemology, constant fears and adultcentrism. But in that same school there are also pedagogical spaces and times in which acknowledgement, sincerity and trust allow these institutions to be inhabited.

The failure of public health to achieve its objective is ingrained partly in its inability to adapt to change and partly to its preference for evidence-only models. The arrival and elevated emphasis on statistics and calculus as defining the success of systems and the extension of the same to public health has only worked toward strengthening its overreliance on evidence-only implementation strategies and models. However, public health, unlike medicine and more like social sciences gains from its application to the broader public good and takes its lessons more from the success stories among the public than from the calculation based on a few datasets. There is no public health without public and since stories are central to the construction of the public, there underutilization in the delivery of public health needs a relook.

The article describes the circumstances of the discovery and the methods of reordering the archive of «Il semplice. Almanacco delle prose». Giving the physiognomy of the fund, consisting mainly of correspon- dence and stories, some exemplary documents are presented, including an unpublished text by Gianni Celati and another one likely to be attributed.

In this edition of Stories, we have collected several significant case studies on the research and education front around the relationship between design cultures and Artificial Intelligence, seeking to emphasise the need to investigate the deeper meanings of this relationship.

Online stories posted in domestic and foreign social networks are a special case of storytelling, i.e., a method of transmitting information as a visual or audio-visual personal and subjective narrative that presupposes no mutual correspondence between this subjective knowledge and reality. The article describes theoretical approaches to the study of online narrative as a tool for influencing public consciousness. The authors used such methods as the analysis of secondary sources, empirical observation, and description to study online stories published in Russian and foreign social networks. Interdisciplinary scientific literature made it possible to draw a number of conclusions about the significant influencing potential of this type of storytelling. The genre relies on emotional impact: stories are short, convenient, and clear enough to represent large amounts of information and axiological attitudes. The narrative nature of the phenomenon provides both the fascination of the content consumed and the depth of its cognitive and behavioral influence on the imaginary communities of modern society and their individual representatives.

The aim of the study is to adapt modern business terminology used in social networks (media) to the legislative framework of accounting and taxation. By drawing a parallel between terms in social media and terms (objects) used in accounting and taxation, it became possible to quickly adapt the legislative framework of accounting to the modern language of business. The works of domestic and foreign scholars related to accountance of business in social networks were studied, allowing to understand the identity of this problem both in Ukraine and over the world. As a result of the study, the problems of synchronization of terminology in social networks with accounting objects are allocated. Among the main ones are: differences in interpretation of terms, lack of standardization, limited context of information, rapid change of terminology, and cultural differences. It is determined that in order to successfully solve these problems, it is necessary to maintain clear communication, improve the accountants’ knowledge of digital technologies and relevant terminology in various spheres and spaces (either offline or online). An analysis of business terminology in social media in the context of accounting objects was carried out, which necessitates changes in the legislative framework of Ukraine, including accounting and taxation; the regulatory documents that require mandatory changes have been considered. The proposed changes in regulatory documents, first of all, will avoid many errors in accounting and reduce the time for studying specific accounting objects. This research is important for accountants and accounting and tax professionals because it will help them use social media effectively in the context of accountance and will help improve communication and understanding between different business sectors using different terms and approaches.

What if there is a way to transform society and create a more caring, equitable, and connected world? Internet-delivered Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (ICBT) aims to support people with mental health concerns using online treatment materials. Client stories (either real or a composite based on many clients) are often used in ICBT to facilitate learning. However, these stories remain understudied in terms of how they are perceived by clients, as well as their relationship to ICBT engagement, satisfaction, and outcomes. Among a sample of 324 clients enrolled in transdiagnostic ICBT targeting symptoms of depression and anxiety, we examined client perceptions of stories through mixed-method qualitative (open-ended) and quantitative (closed-ended) data collection. Specifically, 234 (72.22 %) clients responded to questions about stories at 4 weeks and 221 (68.21 %) responded to questions at 8 weeks. Most clients who responded to questions endorsed reviewing at least some stories (79.06 % at 4 weeks, 71.95 % at 8 weeks). Moreover, they rated stories positively in terms of being relatable, making clients feel less alone, increasing knowledge, providing ideas for how to use skills, and motivating clients to use skills. These perceptions of stories remained stable over the course of treatment. Stories were perceived more positively among those with lower symptom severity at 8 weeks as well as those who were more satisfied with ICBT at 8 weeks. Story perceptions at 4 weeks were predictive of decreased post-treatment anxiety symptom severity but not depression while controlling for baseline scores, age, and education. 26.49 % of clients at 4 weeks who reviewed stories and 33.33 % at 8 weeks provided suggestions about how to improve stories. In a qualitative analysis, we found 5 categories of suggestions including increasing the variety of issues and relatability of stories, ensuring the stories are realistic, refining the formatting, and making the stories shorter. Overall, this study provides insights into how client stories could be improved to play a more significant role in future ICBT programs.

Stories can be a powerful method of exploring complexity, and the factors affecting everyday physical activity within a modern urban setting are nothing if not complex. The first part of our How Do You Move? study focused on the communication of physical activity guidelines to under-served communities. A key finding was that adults especially wanted physical activity messages to come from ‘everyday people, people like us’. This finding also reflects a wider move to use more relatable imagery in health promotion campaigns. Using a portrait vignette approach to create monologues, we set out to explore the experiences of people from diverse backgrounds living in Bristol, all of whom took part in varied leisure time physical activities but would also be considered to lead ‘normal’ lives. We aim to demonstrate that stories of such ‘experts by experience’ can contribute to how physical activity is perceived and elucidate the complex interplay of barriers and enablers in everyday experiences of physical activity.

The practical purpose of teaching a foreign language in this field is to master the types of speech activities and to form the skills and abilities of oral (speaking and listening comprehension) and written (reading and writing) communication in a foreign language. The purpose of receiving or giving information creates the need for communication. Stories are considered to be the most popular form of lore, which can facilitate the moral and ethical deliberation of sustainability for our children. It is evident that children respond better to stories than any other form of communication. Once the stories end, the lessons remain. The values tangled with the lesson transmit as they grow. Stories have always been instrumental and the most conventional way of teaching values by using illustrations from our lives. The major aim of this paper is to explore the values expressed in Bengali childlore through stories and tales and develop a framework by using a scaffolding and mapping approach. This framework attempts to analyse two commonly recognised stories, namely "Shukhu and Dukhu" and "Jackal, The Judge", by scaffolding them with the generally acknowledged principles of sustainability and mapping them to investigate how stories can influence children to build a pro-sustainability attitude. This approach has been chosen, as recent research already points out the issues in implementing sustainability in education, but no one has yet found the way forward. The premise at the core of this theoretical article is that an interdisciplinary approach and different pedagogical tools could help build the bridge towards implementing sustainability in education as well as in society. Purpose – The natural environment is facing unprecedented times owing to rising temperatures from carbon emissions, which travel-related industries contribute significantly towards. The recent global COVID-19 outbreak should be a wake-up call for the industry, as vulnerabilities have been laid bare. The current challenges should be used as a motivation to change the meaning of travel to support the global warming crisis. This paper aims emphasis that, by means of new stories, new values, beliefs and ultimately travel behaviours can be rewritten. Design/methodology/approach/ – This study embraces a pragmatic approach to research. To ensure plausibility, credibility and relevance, the research carried out multi-disciplinary analysis of secondary data, information, knowledge and draws on current developing trends. Findings – The travel community needs to take responsibility and start reducing its carbon footprint and as carbon neutrality is increasingly a global priority. Accordingly, this research considers potential future travel-related behaviours that could support more carbon-neutral travel. Significantly, it notes how the COVID-19 outbreak has offered insights into potential positive changes. To benefit from these changes, new stories for industry providers are necessary to encourage more carbon-neutral travel practices. Originality/value – This paper offers timely and original discussions on the future of travel as a result of COVID-19 impacts. It draws on the power of storytelling as a means of achieving behavioural change in the travel community to support the challenge of climate change.

Sosyal paylaşım ağları, konvansiyonel medya işlevlerini üstlenmesinin yanı sıra hareketli görüntü içeriklerinin dolaşıma girdiği bir kamusallık yaratmıştır. Anılan kamusallık sinemanın ontolojik olarak tarihsel süreç içerisindeki evrimiyle kesişen bir nitelik taşımakta ve dijital sinemayı aşan bir sinematik imge kavrayışını gerekli kılmaktadır. Buradan hareketle çalışmada sinematik imgenin yeni medya ortamlarındaki seyri, süreli gönderi paylaşımı özelinde tartışılmakta ve biçimsel çözümleme tekniği benimsenmektedir. Yeni medya ortamlarından biri olan sosyal paylaşım ağlarının araştırma evreni seçildiği çalışmada, güdümlü olarak Instagram örneklem belirlenmiştir. Ağ bünyesindeki Hikâye uygulaması çözümleme birimi olarak seçilmiştir. Buna göre yeni medya ortamlarında dolaşıma sokulan görsel işitsel metinler olarak Hikâyelerin sinematik niteliği sorgulanmış ve yeni medya dolayımlı sinematik imge tamlaması, anılan imgenin kalıcı olmayan ve kaybolan niteliği üzerinden tanımlanmıştır. Bu niteliğin sinematik imgenin yeni medya dolayımında edindiği yeni bir ontolojik özellik olduğu savunulmuştur. “Uçuculuk” olarak tanımlanan bu özelliğin sinema ile yeni medya etkileşiminden doğduğu tartışılmıştır. Böylece yeni medya ve sinematik imge bağlamlı tartışmaların genel uğrakları ortaya konulmuş ve bu tartışmaların sosyal teoriden beslendiği düşünsel izleklere başvurulmuştur. Sonuç olarak yeni medya dolayımlı sinematik imgenin, zaman referanslı uçucu özelliğinin geleceğe dönük vaat ve endişelere yansıması değerlendirilmiştir.
