Abstract

Berberis microphylla G. Forst. is a Patagonian native shrub commonly named “calafate”, which has a growing economic potential due to its dark blue berries that are consumed fresh, as jams and preserves, and are used for the production of soft drinks and ice cream. Moreover, the fruits have a high content of carbohydrates, phenols and antioxidants. The objective of this work was to show the changes observed in the flower from the emergence in relation to the floral phases and the importance that they have on pollination and fertilization. During the anthesis, the nectar is excreted inside and outside of the petal through the epidermis of the secretory tissue. The epidermis of the stigma is papillae with cells of greater length in the periphery of this structure simulating an additional ring. Secretory tissue is also present on the area of the fusion carpel. During anthesis, the epidermis glands of the stigma showed active secretion and these conditions favor pollen grain germination. Germinated pollen grains were observed after 12 hours of pollination and ten days later the pollen tube reached the ovule area. Pollen tube grew surrounded the ovules and probably some of them already accomplished the fertilization.

Abstract

Berberis microphylla, commonly known as “calafate”, is a non-timber forest product native from Patagonia, and its berries possess highlighted nutraceutical value. The objective of this research was to describe the morphology and anatomy of pollen grains of Berberis microphylla G. Forst genotypes growing spontaneously on the island of Tierra del Fuego (Argentina), and evaluate their vitality and germination. Pollen grain diameter varied from 40 to 47.26 µm, the pollen grains of 124 and 201 genotypes being significantly smaller than the others. Vitality measured by DAPI methodol-ogy was also variable among genotypes, although always about 50%. In vitro germination of pollen grains measured one day after the flowers were collected was very high for some genotypes (near 80%), and then decreased after 21 days of storage, except for genotype 123 whose germination value increased from 44.34 to 69%. The significant variability found in pollen performance (size, viability and germination) among B. microphylla genotypes from a natural population could be interpreted as an enhanced survival strategy to maximize reproduction fitness, with a marked capacity of response to environmental changes. High viable pollen frequency together with germination percentages observed in all the geno-types tested could indicate a good fertilization process. The correlation observed between size and germination percent-age could be used as markers of pollen grain performance, paving the way for possible B. microphylla breeding.

Abstract

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the objective and subjective midterm outcomes of transobturator tape (TOT) in the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 114 consecutive patients affected by stress urinary incontinence (mean age 59±10 years), who underwent the TOT procedure between July 2004 and May 2008 (46 patients received the Safyre, 30 patients the PelviLace, 20 patients the Monarc, 10 patients the DynaMesh and 8 the Align sling), were assessed in June 2008. An evaluation of the patients, based on history, physical examination, stress test, urodynamic tests, and the compilation of two specific quality of life questionnaires, was performed before and after surgery. RESULTS: The therapeutic midterm failure rate for the TOT procedure was 4.4% (5 of 114 patients). The midterm cure rate was 95.6% (109 of 114 patients), 7 (6.1%) of those patients only improved, still with minimal residual urinary leakage. Clinical signs for bowel, urethral, or bladder injuries were undetectable. Intraoperative bleeding, postoperative field infections, or postoperative pelvic floor relaxations were not noted. Three patients (2.6%) presented a little small area of mesh erosion within 6 months from surgery. 6. P134 RECURRENT SCAD IN A PATIENT WITH BICUSPID AORTIC VALVE AND ANOMALOUS CORONARY ORIGIN

Abstract

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is recently emerging as an increasingly frequent cause of myocardial infarction and among the main triggering factors we found hypertension, pregnancy, fibromuscular dysplasia and connective tissue diseases (e.g. Marfan syndrome). Recent studies also suggest that even bicuspid aortic valve may be a predisposing condition for the development of spontaneous coronary artery dissection. We report the case of a 45–year–old Caucasian man with no cardiovascular risk factors; his clinical history begins in August 2019, when he was hospitalized for acute coronary syndrome (NSTEMI). Echocardiography showed preserved left ventricular ejection fraction, bicuspid aortic valve (fusion of right and left cusps) with mild to moderate regurgitation without stenosis and mild dilatation of the aortic bulb (38 mm). The coronary angiography showed no significant stenoses and an anomalous origin of the right coronary artery from the common trunk. The patient was discharged two days later with a diagnosis of MINOCA and an indication to perform a coronary CT scan, which confirmed the anomalous origin of the right coronary artery with a retro–aortic course, and a cardiac MRI, which showed myocardial edema of the infero–lateral wall, mainly with sub–endocardial distribution and LGE in the same sites, compatible with ischemic damage. In September 2022 there was a new hospitalization for inferior–posterior–lateral STEMI with coronarographic finding of a large marginal branch collateral stenosis, with recovery of distal caliber. The angiographic pattern was consistent with type II SCAD (no intracoronary imaging has been performed because of vascular tortuosity and lesion distality). A retrospective comparative analysis of the 2019 angiography allowed to find a distal occlusion of the same branch, now healed, also compatible with SCAD. The patient was discharged on single antiplatelet therapy after one week of DAPT with acetylsalicylic acid and clopidogrel and indication to perform a genetic test for connective tissue diseases. The case described prompts the cardiologists to suspect an uncommon etiology (connective tissue disease, bicuspid aortic valve) in case of SCAD detection, especially if associated with anomalous origin of the coronary arteries.

Abstract

Background Even if pilot studies have been conducted to validate Intravascular Lithotripsy, most challenging cases were excluded, including unprotected Left Main (LM) coronary stenosis. Methods We retrospectively enrolled patients treated with IVL in a real–world multicenter registry from 21 centers among Italy and Spain from January 2020 to November 2021. The primary safety endpoint was freedom from major adverse cardiovascular events (cardiac death, target vessel revascularization, stent thrombosis) at 30 days. The primary effectiveness endpoint was procedural success (defined as stent delivery with a residual stenosis Results From a total amount of 470 patients enrolled in our registry, 41 underwent IVL to LM stenosis. Most of them were males (78.0%). The clinical presentation was acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in 41.4% of cases. Mechanical circulatory support was necessary in 4 cases (9.7%). IVL before stent implantation was planned in 90% of cases. The primary safety endpoint occurred in 97.6%. of patients. The primary effectiveness endpoint was achieved in 97.6% of cases. Interestingly, at 6 months and 12 months, no MACE was recorded. Conclusions Intravascular lithotripsy for the treatment of severely calcified Left Main stenosis seems to be a safe and effective option with very high procedural success rate and low MACE rate at follow–up.

Abstract

Objective: Sensory deficits are important risk factors for delirium but have been investigated in single-center studies and single clinical settings. This multicenter study aims to evaluate the association between hearing and visual impairment or bi-sensory impairment (visual and hearing impairment) and delirium. Design: Cross-sectional study nested in the 2017 "Delirium Day" project. Setting and participants: Patients 65 years and older admitted to acute hospital medical wards, emergency departments, rehabilitation wards, nursing homes, and hospices in Italy. Methods: Delirium was assessed with the 4AT (a short tool for delirium assessment) and sensory deficits with a clinical evaluation. We assessed the association between delirium, hearing and visual impairment in multivariable logistic regression models, adjusting for: Model 1, we included predisposing factors for delirium (ie, dementia, weight loss and autonomy in the activities of daily living); Model 2, we added to Model 1 variables, which could be considered precipitating factors for delirium (ie, psychoactive drugs and urinary catheters). Results: A total of 3038 patients were included; delirium prevalence was 25%. Patients with delirium had a higher prevalence of hearing impairment (30.5% vs 18%; P < .001), visual impairment (24.2% vs 15.7%; P < .01) and bi-sensory impairment (16.2% vs 7.5%) compared with those without delirium. In the multivariable logistic regression analysis, the presence of bi-sensory impairment was associated with delirium in Model 1 [odds ratio (OR) 1.5, confidence interval (CI) 1.2-2.1; P = .00] and in Model 2 (OR 1.4; CI 1.1-1.9; P = .02), whereas the presence of visual and hearing impairment alone was not associated with delirium either in Model 1 (OR 0.8; CI 0.6-1.2, P = .36; OR 1.1; CI 0.8-1.4; P = .42) or in Model 2 (OR 0.8, CI 0.6-1.2, P = .27; OR 1.1, CI 0.8-1.4, P = .63). Conclusions and implications: Our findings support the importance of routine screening and specific interventions by a multidisciplinary team to implement optimal management of sensory impairments and hence prevention and the management of the patients with delirium.

10. Numerical simulation modeling of the irreversible electroporation treatment zone for focal therapy of prostate cancer, correlation with whole-mount pathology and T2-weighted MRI sequences

Background: At present, it is not possible to predict the ablation zone volume following irreversible electroporation (IRE) for prostate cancer (PCa). This study aimed to determine the necessary electrical field threshold to ablate human prostate tissue in vivo with IRE. Methods: In this prospective multicenter trial, patients with localized PCa were treated with IRE 4 weeks before their scheduled radical prostatectomy. In 13 patients, numerical models of the electrical field were generated and compared with the ablation zone volume on whole-mount pathology and T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences. Volume-generating software was used to calculate the ablation zone volumes on histology and MRI. The electric field threshold to ablate prostate tissue was determined for each patient. Results: A total of 13 patients were included for histological and simulation analysis. The median electrical field threshold was 550 V/cm (interquartile range 383-750 V/cm) for the software-generated histology volumes. The median electrical field threshold was 500 V/cm (interquartile range 386-580 V/cm) when the ablation zone volumes were used from the follow-up MRI. Conclusions: The electrical field threshold to ablate human prostate tissue in vivo was determined using whole-mount pathology and MRI. These thresholds may be used to develop treatment planning or monitoring software for IRE prostate ablation; however, further optimization of simulation methods are required to decrease the variance that was observed between patients.

Abstract

The improvement of interior comfort is becoming an increasingly required target in the transport engineering field, with particular attention to the aviation one. Generally, an aircraft is affected by several noise sources, from the engine power unit to the broadband components, related to the turbulent boundary layer (TBL). In this contest, the leading industries, in cooperation with research centers and universities, are actually employed in the development of innovative passive/active solutions for the internal noise as well as vibrations control: such technological implications must, on the one hand, satisfy these design requirements as well as meet the current airworthiness regulations. The paper deals with the vibro-acoustic testing activity on a typical turboprop fuselage subjected to different external load conditions: the damping ratio and the transmission loss characterization has been performed for several materials, including two innovative viscoelastic treatments too. The results highlighted a very good behaviour of the novel viscoelastic foams in terms of both acoustic and thermal performance when compared to standard blanket supported by extra viscoelastic treatments offering a very interesting self-embedded solution with a good weight to performance ratio.

12. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the treatment of acute cholecystitis: comparison of outcomes and costs between early and delayed cholecystectomy

Abstract

Several trials showed that early laparoscopic cholecystectomy is superior to delayed laparoscopic cholecystectomy for the treatment of acute cholecystitis. However actual practice does not conform to current evidence. The aim of this study is to compare outcomes and total hospital costs between early and delayed laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis.A retrospective analysis of patients with acute cholecystitis that underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy at our institutions was performed. Patients were divided into 2 groups on the basis of the treatment received and statistical analysis was performed.The study included 91 patients, 52 female and 39 male, with a mean age of 55. Early surgery was performed in 32 cases and delayed surgery in 59 cases. The two groups were comparable for demographics data and severity of disease on admission. There was a no significant difference (p = 0.174) in the mean operative time between early (54.8 min) and delayed group (47.8 min). Conversion rate was higher in the early group (34.3% vs. 20.3%), but difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.223). The overall complications rate was comparable (18.7% early vs. 16.9% delayed, p = 0.941). Length of postoperative stay (4.3 vs. 3.8 days) was similar (p = 0.437), but total hospital stay was significantly 4 days shorter in the early group (p0.0001). The mean total cost was higher for the delayed group (4171 vs. 6041), with a significant difference of 1870 Euro (p0.0001).Early laparoscopic cholecystectomy has an outcome comparable to the delayed procedure, with a shorter total hospital stay and lower total costs, and it should be considered as the preferred approach in treatment of acute cholecystitis.

Abstract

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become the standard treatment for symptomatic gallstones. However, a conversion to open surgery is sometimes still required to complete the procedure safely. The aim of this study is to identify the predictive factors of conversion from laparoscopic to open cholecystectomy in both elective and emergency cases.A retrospective review of all patients underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy for symptomatic gallstones from January 2011 to October 2013 was performed. Data considered for analysis were: demographic data, comorbidities, preoperative laboratory values, preoperative ERCP, indication for surgery, and the timing of the intervention in acute cholecystitis. Conversion to open cholecystectomy was chosen as the dependent variable for both, univariate and multivariate analysis.414 patients underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. 245 were female (59.1%) and 169 (40.8%) male, with a mean age of 51.7±16.4 years. The indication for surgery was acute cholecystitis in 91 cases (21.9%). Lithiasis of the bile duct was found in 40 patients (9.6%), and it was identified preoperatively in 37 patients, all treated with a preoperative ERCP. Conversion to open occurred in 33 cases (7.9%). Univariate analysis revealed as risk factor for conversion: increased age, acute cholecystitis, comorbidities, elevated white blood cell count, increased level of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, gamma glutamyl transpeptidase, C-reactive protein, and fibrinogen. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that acute cholecystitis (OR 5.63) and age65 years (OR 3.025) were independent predictive factors for conversion.These patients should be properly informed of their increased risk of conversion and should be operated by surgeons skilled in laparoscopic procedures to reduce this risk.

Abstract

Background: COVID-19 is a highly contagious viral infection with high morbidity that is draining health resources. The biggest complication is pneumonia, which has a serious inflammatory component, with no standardized treatment. Low-dose radiation therapy (LD-RT) is non-invasive and has anti-inflammatory effects that can interfere with the inflammatory cascade, thus reducing the severity of associated cytokine release and might be useful in the treatment of respiratory complications caused by COVID-19. Study design and methods: This multicentric prospective clinical trial seeks to evaluate the efficacy of bilateral lung LD-RT therapy as a treatment for interstitial pneumonia in patients with COVID-19 for improving respiratory function.This prospective study will have 2 phases: I) an exploratory phase enrolling 10 patients, which will assess the feasibility and efficacy of low-dose lung irradiation, evaluated according to an increase in the PaO2/FiO2 ratio of at least 20% at 48–72 h with respect to the pre-irradiation value. If a minimum efficiency of 30% of the patients is not achieved, the study will not be continued. II) Non-randomized comparative phase in two groups: a control group, which will only receive pharmacological treatment, and an experimental arm with pharmacological treatment and LD-RT. It will include 96 patients, the allocation will be 1: 2, that is, 32 in the control arm and 64 in the experimental arm. The primary end-point will be the efficacy of LD-RT in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia according to an improvement in PaO2/FiO2. Abstract

The non-profit sector in Italy is very articulate: associations, foundations, social enterprises, cooperatives, nongovernmental organizations operate to meet needs that the public administration is not able to cover. The organisations types are very different in terms of governance, organization, activity, financing models, mission and stakeholder reference. In this context, the first experiences of reporting, both financial, social and environmental were very different. Many organizations as part of a single network took step to adopt guidelines to encourage greater accountability of those realities, through the possibility of comparisons. The same accounting organizations have intervened, proposing guidelines for the preparation of documents and their control. The issue of standardization of the social and environmental reporting had been considered by the profit sector, where international organizations (GRI) and national (GBS) have proceeded to outline guidelines to facilitate comparison and analysis between different realities. The increasing importance of non-profit sector in Italy suggested the introduction of new rules and accounting principles, in order to require not only Financial Statements, but also “Sustainability Reports” for some sectors of non-profit organizations. It’s very important to inform about mission’s realization, whenever the social dimension of the mission is more important than the economic one.

Abstract

Aim of the study was to identify the different hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes in chronic hepatitis patients living in the districts of Messina and Catania (Sicily, Italy), for epidemiological reasons but also to determine the effect of interferon therapy on therapeutic response of different viral genotypes. Genotyping was carried out by reverse-hybridization after amplification by polymerase chain reaction. The study was conducted on 271 patients with HCV-RNA positive chronic liver disease belonging to categories at risk or not for infection. HCV genotype sub-type 1b was the most common viral genotype identified.

Abstract

To evaluate whether, in the forearm of hypertensive patients with different circulating renin profiles, local beta-adrenergic receptor-induced production of active renin, plasma renin activity, angiotensin I (Ang I), and angiotensin II (Ang II) was or was not related to the renin profile, we studied four groups of patients: 1) hypertensive patients with primary aldosteronism and suppressed circulating plasma renin activity values (0.15 +/- 0.1 ng Ang I/mL per hour; n = 7), 2) essential hypertensive patients with low (0.47 +/- 0.1 ng Ang I/mL per hour; n = 8) circulating plasma renin activity values, 3) essential hypertensive patients with normal (2.48 +/- 0.52 ng Ang I/mL per hour; n = 8) circulating plasma renin activity value, and 4) renovascular hypertensive patients with high circulating plasma renin activity values (4.16 +/- 2.1 ng Ang I/mL per hour; n = 10). Isoproterenol was infused into the brachial artery, and active renin, plasma renin activity, and Ang I and Ang II forearm balance (venous-arterial differences corrected for forearm blood flow by strain-gauge plethysmography) were measured. Despite a comparable vasodilation, beta-adrenergic stimulation failed to release active renin, plasma renin activity, and Ang I and Ang II in primary aldosteronism. It slightly increased them (except for Ang I) in low renin patients but determined a local production in normal renin and renovascular hypertensive patients. The individual increments in plasma renin activity and Ang II release induced by isoproterenol showed a correlation with the renin profile.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract

Two cases of neuroleptic malignant syndrome presenting an unusual clinical course are reported. The first patient was untreated for the syndrome and recovered completely only after four months, while the other one was given dopaminergic and myorelaxing drugs only 10 days after the onset of the symptoms and died about six months later with an unmodified clinical picture. In both cases the treatment seemed to influence the clinical course, a delay or lack of drug intake worsening the prognosis.

Nuclear magnetic resonance (n.m.r.) studies show that the exchange between fluorochromate(VI) and fluoride in dimethylsulfoxide is slow, in agreement with previous work on oxygen exchange between water and chromates(VI). No substitution was detected in the system CrO3F−/Cl− in acetonitrile. Mixtures of chromyl fluoride and chromyl chloride show rapid fluorine exchange, both as the pure compounds, and in solution in trichlorofluoromethane. Possible mechanistic implications of these results are discussed.

Abstract

Background: Delirium is thought to be common across various settings of care; however, still little research has been conducted in rehabilitation. Aim: We investigated the prevalence of delirium, its features and motor subtypes in older patients admitted to rehabilitation facilities during the three editions of the “Delirium Day project”. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in which 1237 older patients (age ≥ 65 years old) admitted to 50 Italian rehabilitation wards during the three editions of the “Delirium Day project” (2015 to 2017) were included. Delirium was evaluated through the 4AT and its motor subtype with the Delirium Motor Subtype Scale. Results: Delirium was detected in 226 patients (18%), and the most recurrent motor subtype was mixed (37%), followed by hypoactive (26%), hyperactive (21%) and non-motor one (16%). In a multivariate Poisson regression model with robust variance, factors associated with delirium were: disability in basic (PR 1.48, 95%CI: 1.17–1.9, p value 0.001) and instrumental activities of daily living (PR 1.58, 95%CI: 1.08–2.32, p value 0.018), dementia (PR 2.10, 95%CI: 1.62–2.73, p value < 0.0001), typical antipsychotics (PR 1.47, 95%CI: 1.10–1.95, p value 0.008), antidepressants other than selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (PR 1.3, 95%CI: 1.02–1.66, p value 0.035), and physical restraints (PR 2.37, 95%CI: 1.68–3.36, p value < 0.0001). Conclusion: This multicenter study reports that 2 out 10 patients admitted to rehabilitations had delirium on the index day. Mixed delirium was the most prevalent subtype. Delirium was associated with unmodifiable (dementia, disability) and modifiable (physical restraints, medications) factors. Identification of these factors should prompt specific interventions aimed to prevent or mitigate delirium.

Abstract

Introducción: Las competencias que todo ser humano debe reunir para estar plenamente alfabetizado en información están relacionadas con la capacidad para hacer ciencia. Los profesores universitarios no son la excepción. Objetivo:Determinar, a través de sus publicaciones en las revistas de la vertiente principal aparecidas en el periodo 1994-2001, el grado en que el personal académico de la Universidad de Murcia está alfabetizado en información Métodos:Se utilizaron las tres bases de datos de la Web of Science para identificar las revistas centrales en las que los profesores de la Universidad de Murcia comunican los resultados de sus investigaciones, así como en el Journal Citation Reports para asignar las disciplinas en que publicaron. Resultados:Los artículos indizados en A&CI fueron escasos, mientras que los cubiertos por el SSCI permanecieron constantes en el periodo estudiado. El SCI indizó 1,923 artículos de 1994 a 2001 y el 72% de ellos fue citado. Los artículos fueron publicados principalmente en idioma inglés y de la autoría de profesores adscritos a centros relacionados con las ciencias biológicas. Las disciplinas con mayor actividad fueron la química, bioquímica y biología molecular, así como las neurociencias.Conclusion. s:Las bases de datos que utilizamos son criticadas por sus sesgos, sin embargo, reunimos evidencia de que los académicos de la Universidad realizan investigación principalmente en ciencias. También, que ellos están alfabetizados en información: su producción científica aparece en las revistas visibles, es decir, han vencido barreras de producción de conocimiento y comunicación de la ciencia.

Abstract

Introduction Delirium and sarcopenia are common, although underdiagnosed, geriatric syndromes. Several pathological mechanisms can link delirium and low skeletal muscle mass, but few studies have investigated their association. We aimed to investigate (1) the association between delirium and low skeletal muscle mass and (2) the possible role of calf circumference mass in finding cases with delirium. Methods The analyses were conducted employing the cross-sectional “Delirium Day” initiative, on patient 65 years and older admitted to acute hospital medical wards, emergency departments, rehabilitation wards, nursing homes and hospices in Italy in 2017. Delirium was diagnosed as a 4 + score at the 4-AT scale. Low skeletal muscle mass was operationally defined as calf circumference ≤ 34 cm in males and ≤ 33 cm in females. Logistic regression models were used to investigate the association between low skeletal muscle mass and delirium. The discriminative ability of calf circumference was evaluated using non-parametric ROC analyses. Results A sample of 1675 patients was analyzed. In total, 73.6% of participants had low skeletal muscle mass and 24.1% exhibited delirium. Low skeletal muscle mass and delirium showed an independent association (OR: 1.50; 95% CI 1.09–2.08). In the subsample of patients without a diagnosis of dementia, the inclusion of calf circumference in a model based on age and sex significantly improved its discriminative accuracy [area under the curve (AUC) 0.69 vs 0.57, p Discussion and conclusion Low muscle mass is independently associated with delirium. In patients without a previous diagnosis of dementia, calf circumference may help to better identify those who develop delirium.

Abstract

Gli studi condotti sull’antica città di Nola anche nella comparazione con il territorio urbano contem- poraneo sono illustrati nel presente paper attraverso una ricerca condotta su dueTavole tra le quat- tro allegate al De Nola di Ambrogio Leone (1514). L’apparato grafico del trattato è un’importante testimonianza documentale delle permanenze della città antica in età rinascimentale nonché delle conoscenze teorico-geometriche dello stesso Leone e che qui saranno discusse. L’analisi prende avvio da alcuni studi grafici condotti sulla Tavola II intitolata Nola Vetus e ne declina gli aspetti geometrico-dimensionali, fondando tanto la sua rilettura che l’analisi delle tracce tuttora pre- senti alla scienza del Disegno. La presente ricerca, unitamente ai contributi di Argenziano e Avella in tale volume e in continuità con lo studio già presentato al Convegno UID 2020, consolida il carattere poliedrico dell’autore quale disegnatore, topografo e tipografo, oltre quelle note di erudito umanista.

Abstract

All’interno della Cattedrale di Murcia si trova un importante repertorio di sistemi voltati, di grande raffinatezza strutturale e decorativa, realizzati con tecniche stereotomiche. Tra le figure coinvolte in questa vicenda troviamo il pittore e architetto Jacopo Torni (1476-1526) e il trattatista Alonso de Vandelvira (1544-1626). Una campagna di rilievo con tecniche fotogrammetriche ha permesso di ottenere i cloni digitali delle principali volte a copertura delle numerose cappelle presenti all’interno della cattedrale. Il contributo si concentra sull’analisi dei tracciati presenti nel trattato di Vandelvira di due casi studio piuttosto desueti nel repertorio legato a tale tecnica costruttiva: la volta a copertura della Capilla de Junteron e quella che interessa lo spazio dell’anti sagrestia. I disegni del trattatista spagnolo (in parte confrontati con soluzioni analoghe proposte da Philibert de L’Orme) verranno impiegati, assieme ai cloni digitali ottenuti attraverso il rilievo delle due coperture, per lo studio geometrico e la relativa modellazione 3D degli apparati stereotomici dei due manufatti. Quanto dedotto dai casi studio propone alcune riflessioni sul rapporto tra la pratica del trait e l’effettiva realizzazione di strutture stereotomiche.

Abstract

(1642-1709), con riferimento alle opere di quadratura: la sensibilità al contesto architettonico preesistente, ravvisabile nella modulazione di precisi parametri percettivi e progettuali. Vengono presentati in questa sede i primi risultati delle indagini condotte su tre opere, di diversa tipologia architettonica e scala, riferibili al periodo romano di Andrea Pozzo: la Cappella della Vigna del Collegio Romano presso S. Balbina, il Corridoio delle stanze di Sant’Ignazio presso la chiesa del Gesù a Roma e la chiesa del Gesù di Frascati. I rilievi fotogrammetrici e le conseguenti restituzioni prospettiche hanno permesso di individuare i punti di vista utilizzati da Pozzo e la volumetria delle architetture illusorie. Particolare attenzione è stata posta nel rintracciare, a partire dalle analisi geometriche, gli approcci progettuali alla base delle scelte percettive e architettoniche dell’artista sintetizzabili in tre categorie: allestimento con partiture architettoniche in prospettiva, sfondamento e addizione spaziale, trasmutazione anamorfica della forma. I primi risultati della ricerca, da ampliare con l’analisi di ulteriori opere, restituiscono la figura di Andrea Pozzo progettista, capace di modulare le scelte progettuali sulla base delle caratteristiche spaziali e dei valori lessicali dell’architettura preesistente.

Abstract

This paper presents the analysis of the sixteenth-century city of Nola through the comparative study of four drawings attached in De Nola treatise by Ambrogio Leone (1514), also in comparison with the contemporary city.These drawings are an important graphic-documentary testimony of the city as they not only represent the morphology of the places at the time of their elaboration but also for the methods and techniques used for their execution, therefore offering themselves to considerable evaluations, some of which are collected in this paper. Starting from graphic and geometric analyzes and metric estimates of the drawings in the Treatise, this research makes use of the methodological approaches of the science of Drawing not only for their critical reinterpretation but also to connect the Renaissance city to traces still existing in the contemporary city.The comparison with the contemporary city is not only aimed at identifying the permanence in the road network but also at some considerations on the representations of Nola by Leone.The drawings, in fact, are different not only for the spatial context represented in them, but also for the methods of representation adopted, sometimes to simulate the three-dimensionality of the orographic reality, in other cases to offer a visual verisimilitude to the architectures and city walls to demonstrate a general control of the designer on the image of the scene represented.

34. Late Recurrence of C3 Glomerulopathy After SARS-CoV-2 Infection in a Long-Term Kidney Transplant Recipient: A Case Report.

Abstract

BACKGROUND Kidney transplantation is the optimal treatment for end-stage kidney disease. Over the last decades, the long-term survival of renal allografts has significantly increased. Nevertheless, several causes, including the recurrence of native kidney disease, can impair the allograft function over time. C3 glomerulopathy (C3GN) is a rare disease, characterized by an abnormal activation of the alternative complement pathway that leads to the accumulation of C3 complement component in the glomeruli. C3GN frequently recurs after kidney transplantation during the first years, leading to graft failure. Recently, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the outcome of kidney transplant patients generally worsened, and several studies showed the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on renal function. CASE REPORT Here, we present the clinical case of a female kidney transplant recipient whose renal function worsened after 28 years of transplantation concurrently with two SARS-CoV-2 infections (in October 2020 and March 2022). In 1994, the patient received a diagnosis of acute post-infectious glomerulonephritis, leading to end-stage kidney disease and a living-donor kidney. The most recent allograft biopsy and laboratory test results showed chronic rejection and features of C3GN. Thus, given the possibility of a recurrent glomerulopathy, we reanalyzed the previous patient's renal biopsies performed in 1982 and 1988 and found that both suggested C3GN. CONCLUSIONS Based on these data and the current evidence, we could conclude that in this case, C3GN occurred as a late recurrence disease caused by complement activation after SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Abstract

The conclusions of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) following the peer review of the initial risk assessments carried out by the competent authorities of the rapporteur Member State Slovenia and co-rapporteur Member State Slovakia for the pesticide active substance gibberellins (GA4/GA7) and the considerations as regards the inclusion of the substance in Annex IV of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 are reported. Abstract

This article provides a panel dataset on four capital dimensions (economic, human, social and physical) to study and promote the attractiveness and resilience of Italian territories. The dataset is articulated at the provincial and municipal level for the period 2010-2022. Data have been sourced from different open data repositories or collected through scraping downloads and have been elaborated in order to generate novel territorial indicators. While traditional datasets are commonly available at the regional and provincial levels, territorial analyses necessitate more granular data. Hence, this dataset allows researchers to study territorial characteristics of Italy at the NUTS3 and municipal levels, granting different degrees of spatial granularity and potentially supporting policymakers in evaluating the effectiveness of territorial policies implemented over the years., (© 2024 The Author(s).)

48. Exploring drivers of overnight stays and same-day visits in the tourism sector.

Abstract

We employ mobile network data referred to the area of Lombardy in Italy to investigate alternative touristic behaviours, such as same-day visits and overnight stays in Italy. We show that larger availability of tourism accommodations, cultural and natural endowments are relevant factors explaining overnight stays. Conversely, temporary entertainment and transportation facilities increase municipalities attractiveness for same-day visits. The results also highlight a trade-off in the capability of municipalities of being attractive in connection to both the tourism behaviours. For instance, higher tourists arrivals are observed in areas receiving limited visitors, coming from municipalities with low same-day visits outflows. We highlight mobile data offer an adequate level of spatial and temporal granularity and can be thus employed to support policy makers in the design of effective tourist management strategies., (© 2024. Abstract

The conclusions of the EFSA following the peer review of the initial risk assessments carried out by the competent authority of the rapporteur Member State, Malta, for the pesticide active substance clove oil are reported. The context of the peer review was that required by Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council. The conclusions for the amendment of approval were reached on the basis of the evaluation of the representative use of clove oil as a preharvest nematicide on tomatoes and cucumbers (permanent greenhouse use). The representative use evaluated for the renewal of approval of clove oil was as post-harvest fungicide and bactericide on apples, pears and peaches (indoor uses). The reliable endpoints appropriate for use in regulatory risk assessment are presented. Endpoints not relevant to the scope of the proposed amendment of approval conditions will be addressed in the context of the renewal of approval procedure of clove oil running in parallel (AIR IV, EFSA Q-2016-00809). Abstract

The conclusions of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) following the peer review of the initial risk assessments carried out by the competent authorities of the rapporteur Member State, Spain, and co-rapporteur Member State, the Netherlands, for the pesticide active substance quinolin-8-ol are reported. The context of the peer review was that required by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 844/2012. The conclusions were reached on the basis of the evaluation of the representative use of quinolin-8-ol as a fungicide and bactericide against soil-borne pathogens in tomato cultivation in permanent greenhouses applied by drip irrigation. The reliable end points, appropriate for use in regulatory risk assessment are presented. Missing information identified as being required by the regulatory framework is listed.
