Abstract

Complex objects are usually with multiple labels, and can be represented by multiple modal representations, e.g., the complex articles contain text and image information as well as multiple annotations. Previous methods assume that the homogeneous multi-modal data are consistent, while in real applications, the raw data are disordered, e.g., the article constitutes with variable number of inconsistent text and image instances. Therefore, Multi-modal Multi-instance Multi-label (M3) learning provides a framework for handling such task and has exhibited excellent performance. However, M3 learning is facing two main challenges: 1) how to effectively utilize label correlation; 2) how to take advantage of multi-modal learning to process unlabeled instances. To solve these problems, we first propose a novel Multi-modal Multi-instance Multi-label Deep Network (M3DN), which considers M3 learning in an end-to-end multi-modal deep network and utilizes consistency principle among different modal bag-level predictions. Based on the M3DN, we learn the latent ground label metric with the optimal transport. Moreover, we introduce the extrinsic unlabeled multi-modal multi-instance data, and propose the M3DNS, which considers the instance-level auto-encoder for single modality and modified bag-level optimal transport to strengthen the consistency among modalities. Thereby M3DNS can better predict label and exploit label correlation simultaneously. Experiments on benchmark datasets and real world WKG Game-Hub dataset validate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

3. Microstructure, interfacial reaction behavior, and mechanical properties of Ti3AlC2reinforced Al6061 composites

Abstract

The interfacial reaction behavior of Al and Ti3AlC2at different pouring temperatures and its effect on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated. The results show that the addition of 3.0 wt.% Ti3AlC2refines the average grain size of α(Al) in the composite by 50.1% compared to Al6061 alloy. Morphological analyses indicate that an in-situ Al3Ti transition layer of ~180 nm in thickness is generated around the edge of Ti3AlC2at 720 °C, forming a well-bonded Al−Al3Ti interface. At this processing temperature, the ultimate tensile strength of Al6061−3.0 wt.%Ti3AlC2composite is 199.2 MPa, an improvement of 41.5% over the Al6061 matrix. Mechanism analyses further elucidate that 720 °C is favourable for forming the nano-sized transition layer at the Ti3AlC2edges. And, the thermal mismatch strengthening plays a dominant role in this state, with a strengthening contribution of about 74.8%.

Abstract

Abstract In this paper, a scalarization result of ε-weak efficient solution for a vector equilibrium problem (VEP) is given. Using this scalarization result, the connectedness of ε-weak efficient and ε-efficient solutions sets for the VEPs are proved under some suitable conditions in real Hausdorff topological vector spaces. The main results presented in this paper improve and generalize some known results in the literature.

Abstract

Abstract We consider the weakly efficient solution for a class of nonconvex and nonsmooth vector optimization problems in Banach spaces. We show the equivalence between the nonconvex and nonsmooth vector optimization problem and the vector variational-like inequality involving set-valued mappings. We prove some existence results concerned with the weakly efficient solution for the nonconvex and nonsmooth vector optimization problems by using the equivalence and Fan-KKM theorem under some suitable conditions.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a novel Semi-supervised Learning with Incomplete Modality (SLIM) method considering the modal consistency and complementarity simultaneously, and Kernel SLIM (SLIM-K) based on matrix completion for further solving the modal incompleteness. As is well known, most realistic data have multi-modal representations, multi-modal learning refers to the process of learning a precise model for complete modalities. However, due to the failures of data collection, self-deficiencies, or other various reasons, multi-modal examples are usually with incomplete modalities, which generate utility obstacle using previous methods. In this paper, SLIM integrates the intrinsic consistency and extrinsic complementary information for prediction and cluster simultaneously. In detail, SLIM forms different modal classifiers and clustering learner consistently in a unified framework, while using the extrinsic complementary information from unlabeled data against the insufficiencies brought by the incomplete modal issue. Moreover, in order to deal with missing modality in essence, we propose the SLIM-K, which takes the complemented kernel matrix into the classifiers and the cluster learner respectively. Thus, SLIM-K can solve the defects of missing modality in result. Finally, we give the discussion of generalization of incomplete modalities. Experiments on 13 benchmark multi-modal datasets and two real-world incomplete multi-modal datasets validate the effectiveness of our methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

For the purpose of understanding the influence of stabilizing agents on the internal structure of aggregates in treated soils, seven soil samples were prepared for tests according to type and quantity of stabilization agents, as well as sampling location. In nitrogen adsorption and desorption tests, HK and BJH methods are, respectively, adopted to analyze the diameter distributions of micropores and mesopores within aggregates in samples with diverse treatment. The results indicate that: (1) micropores with the diameter of approximately 8.4 A in aggregates are prominent in both untreated and treated expansive soil samples; (2) mesopores with the diameter of greater than 30 A are mainly distributed in four ranges of 30–40, 70–75, 90–95, and 450–500 A , and the stabilization agent has significant effect on the structure of mesopores with the diameter of greater than 200 A ; and (3) both lime and cement are able to decrease the volumes of micropores while increasing those of mesopores and macropores in expan...

Abstract

Background: Metaplastic breast cancer is one of the most therapeutically challenging forms of breast cancer because of its highly heterogeneous and chemoresistant nature. We have previously demonstrated that ribosomal protein L39 (RPL39) and its gain-of-function mutation A14V have oncogenic activity in triple-negative breast cancer and this activity may be mediated through inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). The function of RPL39 and A14V in other breast cancer subtypes is currently unknown. The objective of this study was to determine the role and mechanism of action of RPL39 in metaplastic breast cancer.Methods: Both competitive allele-specific and droplet digital polymerase chain reaction were used to determine the RPL39 A14V mutation rate in metaplastic breast cancer patient samples. The impact of RPL39 and iNOS expression on patient overall survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Co-immunoprecipitation and immunoblot analyses were used for mechanistic evaluation of RPL39.Results: The RPL39 A14V mutation rate was 97.5% (39/40 tumor samples). High RPL39 (hazard ratio = 0.71, 95% confidence interval = 0.55 to 0.91, P = 006) and iNOS expression (P = 003) were associated with reduced patient overall survival. iNOS inhibition with the pan-NOS inhibitor NG-methyl-L-arginine acetate decreased in vitro proliferation and migration, in vivo tumor growth in both BCM-4664 and BCM-3807 patient-derived xenograft models (P = 04 and P = 02, respectively), and in vitro and in vivo chemoresistance. Mechanistically, RPL39 mediated its cancer-promoting actions through iNOS signaling, which was driven by the RNA editing enzyme adenosine deaminase acting on RNA 1.Conclusion: NOS inhibitors and RNA editing modulators may offer novel treatment options for metaplastic breast cancer.
