Total suspended solids are an indicator of material constituted by sedimentable solids, suspended solids, and colloidal, whose origin is erosion, wastewater discharges, and agricultural waste. The objective of this research was to determine territorial water erosion, its relation with total suspended solids, and the water quality in the lower basin of the Usumacinta River in Tabasco. Three sampling points were established, located in the municipalities of Tenosique, Emiliano Zapata, and Jonuta, in the state of Tabasco. Water samples were collected during 12 monthly sampling campaigns in an annual cycle, and the total suspended solids were determined according to the provisions of the NMX-AA-034-SCFI-2015 standard. Water erosion was calculated based on the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) and with the use of geographic information systems (GIS). The results obtained were statistically analyzed, finding that the measured maximum TSS concentrations are 130.92 mg.L-1 in Boca del Cerro, 165.28 mg.L-1 in Chablé, and 113.91 mg.L-1 in Jonuta which are within the permissible concentrations for protection of freshwater aquatic life and agricultural irrigation according to ecological criteria of water quality (CE-CCA-001/89), in Mexico. The lower basin of the Usumacinta River has areas with extreme erosion (990 tons.ha-1yr-1), with conditions that accelerate the erosion process, such as annual rainfall between 1805 mm and 2250 mm, clay soils located on slopes greater than 16%, and agricultural soils. These events cause loss of the soil fertile layer where agriculture is developed, also giving rise to the accelerated transport of suspended solids; which negatively alter the quality of the water of the Usumacinta River.

Introducción: La malnutrición en los pacientes hospitalizados tiene implicaciones clínicas y evolutivas, por lo que existe interés en desarrollar métodos de cribado que identifiquen los individuos de riesgo. En la actualidad no existe consenso acerca de la herramienta de cribado nutricional más apropiada para aplicar en población pediátrica. Objetivo: Validar en España la herramienta de cribado nutricional pediátrico STAMP (Screening Tool for the Assessment of Malnutrition in Pediatrics). Métodos: Estudio descriptivo transversal en pacientes ingresados en un hospital pediátrico de tercer nivel con diferentes especialidades médicas y quirúrgicas. En las primeras 24 horas de ingreso se aplicó el método de cribado nutricional STAMP. Para la validación de sus resultados se llevó a cabo una valoración del estado nutricional que incluyó datos clínicos, antropométricos y de composición corporal realizada por personal especializado en nutrición. Resultados: Fueron estudiados 250 niños. La valoración nutricional detectó 64 pacientes (25,6%) considerados de riesgo, de los cuales 40 (16%) estaban ya malnutridos. STAMP clasificó un 48,4% de la muestra como de riesgo nutricional elevado. Dicho método mostró una sensibilidad del 75% y una especificidad del 60,8% para identificar los pacientes considerados de riesgo en la valoración nutricional, y una sensibilidad del 90% y especificidad del 59,5% para detectar los malnutridos. Comentarios: La frecuencia de malnutrición fue algo inferior a la de otros países de nuestro entorno, aunque el método diagnóstico fue diferente. El método STAMP es una herramienta sencilla y útil para el cribado nutricional, que evitaría la necesidad de valorar a todos los pacientes al ingreso para detectar los sujetos de riesgo.Background: Malnutrition among hospitalized patients has clinical implications, and interest has arisen to find screening tools able to identify subjects under risk. At present, there is no consensus about the most suitable nutrition screening tool for pediatric patients. Aim: To validate STAMP (Screening Tool for the Assessment of Malnutrition in Pediatrics) pediatric screening tool in Spain. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study of patients admitted to a 3rd level children's hospital with both medical and surgical specialities. During the first 24 hours of admission, STAMP screening tool was applied. For its validation, results were compared with those obtained from a nutritional assessment performed by specialist staff, which included clinical, anthropometric and body composition data. Results: A sample of 250 children was studied. Nutritional assessment identified 64 patients (25.6%) under risk, 40 of whom were malnourished (16%). STAMP classified 48.4% of the patients as being under nutritional risk. This tool showed 75% sensitivity and 60.8% specificity when identifying patients under risk according to nutritional assessment. It showed 90% sensitivity and 59.5% specificity when identifying malnourished patients. Comments: Malnutrition was less frequent than that reported in other European countries, although diagnosis technique was different. STAMP is a simple and useful tool for nutritional screening, avoiding the need to assess all patients on admission in order to identify those under nutritional risk.

Introducción y objetivo: Los estándares poblacionales de crecimiento intrauterino son necesarios para evaluar si el recién nacido (RN) ha crecido bien, si su estado nutricional es adecuado y para identificar grupos de riesgo como los pequeños para su edad gestacional (PEG). Se analizan las diferencias entre las curvas de crecimiento intrauterino utilizadas habitualmente en nuestro medio y el número de RN que cada una de ellas identifica como PEG. Material y métodos: Estudio transversal en 4.486 RN caucásicos (2.361 niños y 2.125 niñas), con una edad gestacional entre 35 y 41 semanas. La valoración antropométrica del RN (peso y longitud) se realizó siguiendo la metodología estándar. Se comparó el porcentaje de RN que quedaba con un peso y una longitud por debajo del percentil 10 (P10) para su edad gestacional a partir de cuatro curvas de crecimiento intrauterino (Olsen et al. 2010, Lubchenco et al. 1966, Delgado et al. 1996, Carrascosa et al. 2008), siendo diagnosticado de PEG. Resultados: El peso y longitud de los niños eran significativamente mayores que los de las niñas en todas las edades estudiadas. Los valores para el P10 en cada edad gestacional son globalmente similares entre las curvas analizadas y superponibles a los de nuestra población, con la clara excepción de la gráfica de Lubchenco et al. cuyos valores para el P10 son de hasta 300 g. menos en los RN de mayor edad gestacional. Las gráficas de Lubchenco et al. identifican un menor número de PEG que las otras. El porcentaje de niños PEG de nuestra muestra osciló entre un 1,7% y 14% en dependencia del estándar, sexo y edad gestacional considerados. Conclusión: El número de niños clasificados como PEG varía según el estándar utilizado. Las gráficas de Lubchenco, pese a su amplio uso, se alejan del patrón de crecimiento de nuestra población e identifican un menor número de PEG. El resto de curvas son similares entre ellas y parecen adecuadas para nuestro medio. La correcta identificación de los PEG permitirá valorar con mejor criterio los riesgos a corto y largo plazo de estos RN.Introduction and objective: Population standards of intrauterine growth are necessary to evaluate if the newborn has grown well, if their nutritional conditions are appropriate and to identify groups at risk as those small for gestational age (SGA). Differences in the number of SGA newborns identified, depending on the standard applied, have been analyzed in this study. Material and methods: Cross-sectional study conducted in 4,486 Caucasian newborns (2,361 boys and 2,125 girls), born between 35 and 41 weeks. Weight and length valuation was performed following the standard methodology. Percentage of children under the 10th percentile for weight and length was calculated depending on the standard used (Olsen et al. 2010, Lubchenco et al. 1966, Delgado et al. 1996, Carrascosa et al. 2008), being diagnosed of SGA. Results: Weight and length were significantly higher in boys than in girls at all ages. 10th percentile values defined for every gestational age are globally similar among the different standards and our population, with the clear exception of Lubchenco curves whose 10th percentile values are even 300 g. lower for the newborns at the highest gestational ages. Lubchenco charts do not fit the pattern of intrauterine growth of our population and identify a smaller number of SGA. The percentage of SGA of our sample ranged between 1.7% and 14% in depending on the standard, sex and gestational age considered. Conclusion: The number of children classified as SGA is different according to each standard used. Lubchenco charts identify a smaller number of SGA than the others. The rest of curves show similar values and seem to be well adapted for our population. The correct identification of SGA will allow a better assessment of short and long-term risks of these newborns.

Introducción: El crecimiento es un fenómeno complejo que en pediatría tiene especial relevancia por constituir un indicador fundamental del estado nutricional. Objetivo: Evaluar las diferencias en la interpretación del peso en una muestra de niños de nuestro medio, desde el nacimiento hasta los 18 meses, según los estándares nacionales e internacionales existentes. Métodos: Estudio longitudinal del peso y longitud en una cohorte de 383 niños de 0 a 18 meses representativa de la población aragonesa. This work presents a microwave resonant multi-parameter sensor devoted to the simultaneous extraction of three characteristics of a homogeneous solid sample: its dielectric permittivity, its loss tangent and its thickness. The device is composed of three coupled resonators in two different substrate boards, having the sample between the boards, in a sandwich configuration. Presence of the sample impacts the electrical response of the device, not only influencing resonators, but also by affecting inter-resonator couplings. A method to analyse the response of the device, allowing for the extraction of the desired characteristics of the sample is proposed, as well as an experimental calibration procedure. The model is built upon 990 simulations, calibrated with three reference-samples measurements and then tested over 18 experimental measurements, with good results, thereby validating the multi-parameter sensing approach. Fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing has the advantages of a simple molding principle, convenient operation, and low cost, making it suitable for the production and fabrication of complex structural parts. Moving forward to mass production using 3D printing, the major hurdle to overcome is the achievement of high dimensional stability and adequate mechanical properties. In particular, engineering plastics require precise dimensional accuracy. In this study, we overcame the issues of FDM 3D printing in terms of ternary material compounds for polyamides with gradient structures. Using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and boron nitride (BN) as fillers, polyamide 6 (PA6)-based 3D-printed parts with high dimensional stability were prepared using a single-nozzle, two-component composite fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing technology to construct a gradient structure. The ternary composites were characterized via DSC and XRD to determine the optimal crystallinity. The warpage and shrinkage of the printed samples were measured to ensure the dimensional properties. The mechanical properties were analyzed to determine the influence of the gradient structures on the composites. The experimental results show that the warpage of pure polymer 3D-printed parts is as high as 72.64%, and the introduction of a gradient structure can reduce the warpage to 3.40% by offsetting the shrinkage internal stress between layers. In addition, the tensile strength of the gradient material reaches up to 42.91 MPa, and the increasing filler content improves the interlayer bonding of the composites, with the bending strength reaching up to 60.91 MPa and the interlayer shear strength reaching up to 10.23 MPa. Therefore, gradient structure design can be used to produce PA6 3D-printed composites with high dimensional stability without sacrificing the mechanical properties of PA6 composites. This work revisits the notion of complex step derivative approximation (CSDA) and presents its use in constitutive model of a class of nonlinear viscoelastic materials. The effectiveness of a CSDA is evaluated by putting it through a series of straightforward examples. After that, the idea of the CSDA is put to use in order to carry out a numerical evaluation of the algorithmic tangent moduli of a viscoelastic constitutive model. The performance of the constitutive models is evaluated through the use of three different numerical tests, and the results are compared to those that were achieved by the application of an analytical method. In comparison to other numerical differentiation techniques, It has been found that the CSDA scheme is the most computationally efficient and robust method of numerical differentiation, regardless of the size of the finite difference interval. Background: In recent years, with benefits from the continuous improvement of clinical technology and the advantage of fertility preservation, the application of embryo cryopreservation has been growing rapidly worldwide. However, amidst this growth, concerns about its safety persist. Numerous studies have highlighted the elevated risk of perinatal complications linked to frozen embryo transfer (FET), such as large for gestational age (LGA) and hypertensive disorders during pregnancy. Thus, it is imperative to explore the potential risk of embryo cryopreservation and its related mechanisms. Methods: Given the strict ethical constraints on clinical samples, we employed mouse models in this study. Three experimental groups were established: the naturally conceived (NC) group, the fresh embryo transfer (Fresh-ET) group, and the FET group. Blastocyst formation rates and implantation rates were calculated post-embryo cryopreservation. The impact of FET on fetal growth was evaluated upon fetal and placental weight. Placental RNA-seq was conducted, encompassing comprehensive analyses of various comparisons (Fresh-ET vs. NC, FET vs. NC, and FET vs. Fresh-ET). Results: Reduced rates of blastocyst formation and implantation were observed post-embryo cryopreservation. Fresh-ET resulted in a significant decrease in fetal weight compared to NC group, whereas FET reversed this decline. RNA-seq analysis indicated that the majority of the expression changes in FET were inherited from Fresh-ET, and alterations solely attributed to embryo cryopreservation were moderate. Unexpectedly, certain genes that showed alterations in Fresh-ET tended to be restored in FET. Further analysis suggested that this regression may underlie the improvement of fetal growth restriction in FET. The expression of imprinted genes was disrupted in both FET and Fresh-ET groups. Conclusion: Based on our experimental data on mouse models, the impact of embryo cryopreservation is less pronounced than other in vitro manipulations in Fresh-ET. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains, the decreased effectiveness of conventional therapies, and the side effects have led researchers to seek a safer, more cost-effective, patient-friendly, and effective method that does not develop antibiotic resistance. With progress in synthetic biology and genetic engineering, genetically engineered microorganisms effective in treatment, prophylaxis, drug delivery, and diagnosis have been developed. The present study reviews the types of genetically engineered bacteria and phages, their impacts on diseases, cancer, and metabolic and inflammatory disorders, the biosynthesis of these modified strains, the route of administration, and their effects on the environment. How to accelerate the pace and reduce the costs of new drug discovery has long been a key concern for the pharmaceutical industry. Different factors, including antimicrobial resistance, may diminish the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy, challenging the management of post-transplant urinary tract infection (UTI). The association of acidic urine pH with microbiological and clinical outcomes was evaluated after fosfomycin or ciprofloxacin therapy in 184 kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) with UTI episodes by Escherichia coli (N = 115) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (N = 69). Initial urine pH, antimicrobial therapy, and clinical and microbiological outcomes, and one- and six-month follow-up were assessed. Fosfomycin was prescribed in 88 (76.5%) E. coli and 46 (66.7%) K. pneumoniae UTI episodes in the total cohort. When the urine pH ≤ 6, fosfomycin was prescribed in 60 (52.2%) E. coli and 29 (42.0%) K. pneumoniae. Initial urine pH ≤ 6 in E. coli UTI was associated with symptomatic episodes (8/60 vs. 0/55, p = 0.04) at one-month follow-up, with a similar trend in those patients receiving fosfomycin (7/47 vs. 0/41, p = 0.09). Acidic urine pH was not associated with microbiological or clinical cure in K. pneumoniae UTI. At pH 5, the ciprofloxacin MIC90 increased from 8 to >8 mg/L in E. coli and from 4 to >8 mg/L in K. pneumoniae. At pH 5, the fosfomycin MIC90 decreased from 8 to 4 mg/L in E. coli and from 512 to 128 mg/L in K. pneumoniae. Acidic urine is not associated with the microbiological efficacy of fosfomycin and ciprofloxacin in KTRs with UTI, but it is associated with symptomatic UTI episodes at one-month follow-up in E. coli episodes. Previous examinations of fully convective M-dwarf stars have highlighted enhanced rates of nanoflare activity on these distant stellar sources. However, the specific role the convective boundary, which is believed to be present for spectral types earlier than M2.5V, plays on the observed nanoflare rates is not yet known. Here, we utilize a combination of statistical and Fourier techniques to examine M-dwarf stellar lightcurves that lie on either side of the convective boundary. We find that fully convective M2.5V (and later subtypes) stars have greatly enhanced nanoflare rates compared with their pre-dynamo mode-transition counterparts. Specifically, we derive a flaring power-law index in the region of 3.00 ± 0.20, alongside a decay timescale of 200 ± 100 s for M2.5V and M3V stars, matching those seen in prior observations of similar stellar subtypes. Interestingly, M4V stars exhibit longer decay timescales of 450 ± 50 s, along with an increased power-law index of 3.10 ± 0.18, suggesting an interplay between the rate of nanoflare occurrence and the intrinsic plasma parameters, e.g., the underlying Lundquist number. In contrast, partially convective (i.e., earlier subtypes from M0V to M2V) M-dwarf stars exhibit very weak nanoflare activity, which is not easily identifiable using statistical or Fourier techniques. This suggests that fully convective stellar atmospheres favor small-scale magnetic reconnection, leading to implications for the flare-energy budgets of these stars. Understanding why small-scale reconnection is enhanced in fully convective atmospheres may help solve questions relating to the dynamo behavior of these stellar sources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: Although the use of antimicrobials and the related selection of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) pathogens are recognized worldwide, limited or no information is available on the effect of the antibiotic treatment on the genetic structure as well as the dissemination and persistence of plasmids carrying AMR genetic determinants. This is of particular interest for bacterial pathogens like Avian Pathogenic Escherica coli (APEC), which have the potential to persist and be transmitted from broilers to humans through the food chain as well as for their AMR genetic determinants, which have the potential to be mobilized and spread. With a genomic approach, results of the present study revealed that during the enrofloxacin treatment of broilers, initial strains of extraintestinal E. coli disappeared, being substituted by new clones. Plasmid-mediated fluoroquinolone resistance did not appear to disseminate or persist among observed genomes, confirming that QRDR mutations rather than plasmids are the main drivers of quinolone resistance. Interestingly, plasmids carrying other AMR genes than quinolone-determinant ones were disseminated and persistent since they were found in different clones both before and after the treatment. The persistence of plasmids without a direct antimicrobial selective pressure, if confirmed with further studies, might give insights on the so-called plasmid paradox. The aim of the present study was to investigate the genetic diversity and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of E. coli during enrofloxacin therapy in broilers affected by colisepticemia. Three unrelated farms with ongoing colibacillosis outbreaks were sampled at day 1 before treatment and at days 5, 10 and 24 post-treatment. A total of 179 E. coli isolates were collected from extraintestinal organs and submitted to serotyping, PFGE and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against enrofloxacin. PFGE clusters shifted from 3–6 at D1 to 10–16 at D5, D10 and D24, suggesting an increased population diversity after the treatment. The majority of strains belonged to NT or O78 and to ST117 or ST23. PFGE results were confirmed with SNP calling: no persistent isolates were identified. An increase in resistance to fluoroquinolones in E. coli isolates was observed along the treatment. Resistome analyses revealed qnrB19 and qnrS1 genes along with mutations in the gyrA, parC and parE genes. Interestingly, despite a fluoroquinolone selective pressure, qnr-carrying plasmids did not persist. On the contrary, two conjugative AMR plasmid clusters (AB233 and AA474) harboring AMR genes other than qnr were persistent since they were identified in both D1 and D10 genomes in two farms. Stem cell-based therapies are promising tools for regenerative medicine and require bulk numbers of high-quality cells. Currently, cells are produced on demand and have a limited shelf-life as conventional cryopreservation is primarily designed for stock keeping. We present a study on bulk cryopreservation of the human iPSC lines UKKi011-A and BIONi010-C-41. By increasing cell concentration and volume, compared to conventional cryopreservation routines in cryo vials, one billion cells were frozen in 50 mL cryo bags. Upon thawing, the cells were immediately seeded in scalable suspension-based bioreactors for expansion to assess the stemness maintenance and for neural differentiation to assess their differentiation potential on the gene and protein levels. Both the conventional and bulk cryo approach show comparative results regarding viability and aggregation upon thawing and bioreactor inoculation. Reduced performance compared to the non-frozen control was compensated within 3 days regarding biomass yield. Stemness was maintained upon thawing in expansion. In neural differentiation, a delay of the neural marker expression on day 4 was compensated at day 9. We conclude that cryopreservation in cryo bags, using high cell concentrations and volumes, does not alter the cells' fate and is a suitable technology to avoid pre-cultivation and enable time- and cost-efficient therapeutic approaches with bulk cell numbers. The latest guideline from the American Academy of Pediatrics for the management of bronchiolitis has helped reduce unnecessary interventions and costs. However, data on patients still receiving interventions are missing. In patients with acute bronchiolitis whose management was assessed and compared with current achievable benchmarks of care, we aimed to identify factors associated with nonadherence to guideline recommendations. In this single-centre retrospective study the management of bronchiolitis pre-guideline (Period 1: 2010 to 2012) was compared with two periods post-guideline (Period 2: 2015 to 2016, early post-guideline; and Period 3: 2017 to 2018, late post-guideline) in otherwise healthy infants aged less than 1 year presenting at the Children's University Hospitals of Geneva (Switzerland). Post-guideline, bronchodilators were more frequently administered to older (>6 months; OR 25.8, 95%CI 12.6–52.6), and atopic (OR 3.5, 95%CI 1.5–7.5) children with wheezing (OR 5.4, 95%CI 3.3–8.7). Oral corticosteroids were prescribed more frequently to older (>6 months; OR 5.2, 95%CI 1.4–18.7) infants with wheezing (OR 4.9, 95% CI 1.3–17.8). Antibiotics and chest X-ray were more frequently prescribed to children admitted to the intensive care unit (antibiotics: OR 4.2, 95%CI 1.3–13.5; chest X-ray: OR 19.4, 95%CI 7.4–50.6). Latest prescription rates were all below the achievable benchmarks of care. In summary, following the latest American Academy of Pediatrics guideline, older, atopic children with wheezing and infants admitted to the intensive care unit were more likely to receive nonevidence-based interventions during an episode of bronchiolitis. These patient profiles are generally excluded from bronchiolitis trials, and therefore not specifically covered by the current guideline. This study investigates the effects of the antiperspirant aluminum chlorohydrate on the development of antibiotic resistance in commensal Staphylococcus epidermidis isolates. The isolates were exposed to aluminum chlorohydrate for 30 days. The bacteria that developed resistance to oxacillin and ciprofloxacin were isolated, and the expression levels of some antibiotic resistance genes were determined using quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR. Before and after exposure, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of the bacteria were determined using the microdilution method. A time-dependent increase was observed in the number of bacteria that developed resistance and increased MIC values. Consistent with the ciprofloxacin resistance observed after exposure, an increase in norA, norB/C, gyrA, gyrB, parC, and parE gene expression was observed. In addition to aluminum chlorohydrate exposure, oxacillin resistance was observed in all test bacteria in the group only subcultured in the medium, suggesting that phenotypic resistance cannot be correlated with chemical exposure in light of these data. The increase in mecA gene expression in selected test bacteria that acquired resistance to oxacillin after exposure compared with control groups suggests that the observed resistance may have been related to aluminum chlorohydrate exposure. To our knowledge, this is the first time in the literature that the effects of aluminum chlorohydrate as an antiperspirant on the development of antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus epidermidis have been reported. Aiming at the problems of complex processing technology, uneven deformation, and poor forming accuracy of multi-curvature positive Gaussian slewing egg-shaped shells, it is proposed to use unidirectional loading rubber flexible medium bulging technology to improve the tube deformation distribution and enhance the processing accuracy of plastic forming of bionic egg-shaped shells. By analyzing the structure and manufacturing method of egg-shaped shells, this paper explores the optimization problems in the rubber bulging technology of non-homogeneous deformation egg-shaped shells. The simulation analysis and experimental verification methods are used to study the different technological parameters and forming accuracy of rubber bulging of egg-shaped shells under unidirectional loading and to master the deformation mechanism of rubber bulging of egg-shaped shell structural components under unidirectional loading. The study shows that optimizing technological parameters in unidirectional loading mode can effectively improve the uniformity of strain distribution and thickness distribution during the forming of egg-shaped shells, thus improving the processing accuracy of plastic deformation of bionic egg-shaped thin-walled parts. Furthermore, the simulation of the rubber bulging technology of the egg-shaped shell after the optimization of technological parameters is in good agreement with the experiment. Flavor is the focal point in the flavor industry, which follows social tendencies and behaviors. The research and development of new flavoring agents and molecules are essential in this field. However, the development of natural flavors plays a critical role in modern society. Considering this, the present work proposes a novel framework based on scientific machine learning to undertake an emerging problem in flavor engineering and industry. It proposes a combining system composed of generative and reinforcement learning models. Therefore, this work brings an innovative methodology to design new flavor molecules. The molecules were evaluated regarding synthetic accessibility, the number of atoms, and the likeness to a natural or pseudo-natural product. This work brings as contributions the implementation of a web scraper code to sample a flavors database and the integration of two scientific machine learning techniques in a complex system as a framework. The implementation of the complex system instead of the generative model by itself obtained 10% more molecules within the optimal results. The designed molecules obtained as an output of the reinforcement learning model's generation were assessed regarding their existence or not in the market and whether they are already used in the flavor industry or not. Simple Summary: An inhibitor of the NF-κB (IκB) family is involved in regulating innate immune responses. In this study, early pregnancy induces upregulation of IκBα, but changes and downregulates the expression of BCL-3, IκBε, IKKγ and IκBNS, and changes expression of IκBβ and IκBζ in the maternal liver, which are related to maternal peripheral tolerance and pregnancy establishment. During normal pregnancy, there is a dynamic regulation of the maternal immune system, including the liver, to accommodate the presence of the allogeneic foetus in the uterus. However, it was unclear that the expression of the IkappaB (IκB) family was regulated in the ovine maternal liver during early pregnancy. In this study, sheep livers were collected at day 16 of the oestrous cycle (NP16), and days 13, 16 and 25 of gestation (DP13, DP16 and DP25), and RT-qPCR, Western blot and immunohistochemistry analysis were used to analyse the expression of the IκB family, including B cell leukemia-3 (BCL-3), IκBα, IκBβ, IκBε, IKKγ, IκBNS and IκBζ. The results revealed that expression of BCL-3, IκBβ, IκBε and IKKγ peaked at DP16, and the expression of IκBα was increased during early pregnancy. In addition, the expression of IκBζ peaked at DP13 and DP16, and IκBNS peaked at DP13. IκBβ and IKKγ proteins were located in the endothelial cells of the proper hepatic arteries and portal veins, and hepatocytes. In conclusion, early pregnancy changed the expression of the IκB family, suggesting that the modulation of the IκB family may be related to the regulation of maternal hepatic functions, which may be favourable for pregnancy establishment in sheep. Additive manufacturing (AM) is a rapidly growing branch of manufacturing techniques used, among others, in the medical industry. New machines and materials and additional processing methods are improved or developed. Due to the dynamic development of post-processing and its relative novelty, it has not yet been widely described in the literature. This study focuses on the surface topography (parameters Sa, Sz, Sdq, Sds, Str, Sdr) of biocompatible polyamide 12 (PA12) samples made by selective laser sintering (SLS) and multi jet fusion (MJF). The surfaces of the samples were modified by commercial methods: four types of smoothing treatments (two mechanical and two chemical), and two antibacterial coatings. The smoothing treatment decreased the values of all analyzed topography parameters. On average, the Sa of the SLS samples was 33% higher than that of the MJF samples. After mechanical treatment, Sa decreased by 42% and after chemical treatment by 80%. The reduction in Sdq and Sdr is reflected in a higher surface gloss. One antibacterial coating did not significantly modify the surface topography. The other coating had a smoothing effect on the surface. The results of the study can help in the development of manufacturing methodologies for parts made of PA12, e.g., in the medical industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bacteriophages, also known as phages, are viruses that selectively target and infect bacteria. In addition to bacterial dysbiosis, dermatologic conditions such as acne, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis are characterized by a relative reduction in the abundance of phages and the overgrowth of the corresponding bacteria. Phages often exhibit high specificity for their targeted bacteria, making phage-replacement therapy a promising therapeutic strategy for the control of pathogenic bacteria in dermatologic disease. Novel therapeutic strategies regulating pathogenic bacteria are especially necessary in light of growing antibiotic resistance. In this review, we aimed to review the medical literature assessing phage dysbiosis and therapeutic trials in dermatology. Ultimately, studies have depicted promising results for the treatment of acne, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis but are limited by low sample sizes and the omission of control groups in some trials. Additional work is necessary to validate the efficacy depicted in proof-of-concept trials and to further determine optimal treatment vehicles, administration mechanisms, and dosing schedules. Anti-cancer drug design has been acknowledged as a complicated, expensive, time-consuming, and challenging task. How to reduce the research costs and speed up the development process of anti-cancer drug designs has become a challenging and urgent question for the pharmaceutical industry. Computer-aided drug design methods have played a major role in the development of cancer treatments for over three decades. Recently, artificial intelligence has emerged as a powerful and promising technology for faster, cheaper, and more effective anti-cancer drug designs. This study is a narrative review that reviews a wide range of applications of artificial intelligence-based methods in anti-cancer drug design. We further clarify the fundamental principles of these methods, along with their advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, we collate a large number of databases, including the omics database, the epigenomics database, the chemical compound database, and drug databases. Threatened abortion (TA) is the most common complication in early pregnancy and is caused by anxiety and depressive symptoms. The Zishen Yutai Pill (ZYP) is a traditional herbal formula that is commonly used to treat TA. However, the pharmacological mechanisms underlying the effect of ZYP have yet to be elucidated. To disclose the mechanism of ZYP in the treatment of TA, first, we identified the chemical constituents of ZYP from multiple databases and then predicted the potential targets of TA by applying the GeneCards database. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was then constructed to allow the screening of hub targets. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGGs) enrichment analyses were also performed and the Database for Annotation Visualization and Integrated Discovery server was used to identify critical biological processes and signaling pathways. Cytoscape software was used to construct a Compound-Target-Pathway. Furthermore, we analyzed ZYP by UPLC-Q-TOF/MS, then the RU486-induced TA rat model was established, and the reliability of the network pharmacology prediction results was verified. Finally, the mechanisms responsible for the action of ZYP on TA were revealed by qRT-PCR and molecular docking. Database screening identified a total of 161 active compounds in ZYP and 324 TA-related targets. And, we identified 42 compounds from ZYP by UPLC-Q-TOF/MS. Inflammation and apoptosis were identified as the main biological processes. GO and KEGG analyses identified that the MAPK and PI3K/Akt pathways were the key functional pathways that respond to ZYP. The results showed that ZYP treatment significantly increased maternal weight, significantly increased the levels of estradiol and progesterone, and attenuated histopathological changes in a rat model of TA. Data indicated that ZYP treatment improved pregnancy outcomes in the rat model of TA. QRT-PCR data showed that ZYP reduced inflammation and apoptosis by regulating the MAPK and PI3K/Akt pathways. In addition, molecule docking results identified a range of key compounds, including Pik3a, Mapk14, Mapk1, Mapk3, Mapk8 Tnf, Il6, and Cas8. In summary, we performed network pharmacological analysis and experimental validation and identified that ZYP exerts an effect on TA by regulating the MAPK and PI3K/Akt pathways and by inhibiting the expression levels of proinflammatory cytokines and genes related to apoptosis.
