This essay discusses issues the author encountered while constructing a house in 2020 using traditional methods of the Amis, one of the officially recognised Indigenous groups in Taiwan. The author dealt with many obstacles including legal, environmental, and resource issues. These problems point to the historically disadvantaged status of Indigenous Taiwanese people in terms of land rights. With the help of others in his village, the author completed the construction of the house, an achievement that highlights the challenges faced by Indigenous Taiwanese people wishing to implement traditional building practices and lifestyle in the contemporary context.

[Objective] Intermittent irrigation has become an important water-saving irrigation method to conserve water and improve rice yield in southern China. This paper presents the results of an experimental study of the combined effect of intermittent irrigation and silicon fertilization at different stages on rice growth and yield, to find the optimal timing for silicon fertilization. [Method] The experiment was conducted in a field with the Jinyuan 85 variety used as the experimental plant. There were six silicon applications: no silicon fertilizer (CK), applying silicon fertilizer at tillering stage (F1), jointing stage (F2), booting stage (F3), heading stage (F4), or blooming and filling period (F5). Growth traits and yield of the rice in each treatment were measured. [Result] Silicon fertilizer application combined with intermittent irrigation not only promoted rice growth and development, but also improved its yield and water use efficiency. Compared with CK, silicon fertilization increased leaf area index, dry matter, yield, and irrigation water use efficiency of the rice by 1.15% to 11.36%, 9.17% to 24.24%, 2.05% to 8.63%, and 2.16% to 8.63%, respectively, depending on fertilization timing. The best effect was observed when the silicon fertilizer was applied at the tillering stage. [Conclusion] Combining intermittent irrigation with silicon fertilization can promote rice growth and development, thereby improving yield and irrigation water use efficiency of the rice. Objective·To analyze the association between T cell receptor repertoire diversity in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients and clinical characteristics and Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn) abundance. Methods·Sixty-three surgical CRC specimens and adjacent normal mucosa tissues were collected from the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Totally 53-paired qualified samples were subsequently sequenced on an Illumina HiSeq 4000 for paired-end 150 bp (PE150) sequencing. Quality control and genome annotation were carried out for the original sequencing data. Then a TRUST4 algorithm was further used to acquire TCR repertoire information from RNA sequencing results of tumor tissues and adjacent normal tissues. Meanwhile, the specific sequences of all samples' 16S rDNA were selected for high-throughput sequencing analysis. Clustered from the sequencing data after quality control, the operational taxonomic units (OTU) information was annotated based on rdp&lowbar;16s&lowbar;v16.fa taxonomic database to acquire bacterial abundance information, especially Fn. Immunarch R package was utilized to evaluate the characteristics of TCR repertoire clonotypes and diversity. Chao1 index, inverse Simpson index and Hill numerical curve were then conducted to assess the TCR repertoire diversity. Clinical features, such as gender, age, tumor location, and TNM stage, and biological factors like Fn load, were included to dichotomize patients into different groups, and repertoire diversity comparison between subgroups within different clinical features and Fn loads was conducted by Wilcoxon test subsequently. Results·The number of TCR repertoire clonotypes in CRC tissues was lower compared to that in adjacent normal tissues (P=0.000). Chao1 index, inverse Simpson index and Hill number in tumor tissues were significantly lower than those in adjacent normal tissues (P=0.000). The Chao1 indexes, and inverse Simpson indexes between different gender, age (≥65 years vs < 65 years) or TNM stage (I/II stage vs III/IV stage) group showed no statistically significant difference (P>0.05). Tumors located in rectum had higher TCR clonotypes than those located in non-rectum (P=0.040). In addition, CRC patients with high Fn load demonstrated lower Chao1 indexes than those with low Fn load (P=0.030). Conclusion·The TCR repertoire diversity is correlated with multiple clinical features as well as the abundance of Fn, indicating that the analysis based on TCR repertoire diversity of CRC patients can provide potential value for CRC tumorigenesis and development. Two major traditional modalities of posterior circulation revascularization are extracranial-intracranial low-flow bypass with donor arteries from anterior circulation and supply mainly for local perforators and distal vascular territories. V3 bypass characterized by profound and simultaneous vascular reconstruction of posterior circulation, achieved by intracranial-intracranial or multiple bypasses in conjunction with skull base techniques. These posterior circulation vessels not only play a pivotal role in bypass modality design for vertebrobasilar lesions, but also be implemented to revascularize the anterior circulation. In this article, we review the exposure techniques of the important related vessels, designed philosophy, indications and surgical techniques of the available innovative modalities of V3 bypass. Evaluating urban water security is good for finding shortcomings that constrain urban development. This paper introduces the information substitutability index selection method to refine the index system, reducing the 24 indicators to 10 indicators, and using constant weights to check the index system before and after selection. Constant weight modified by the idea of variable weight, and the model is validated with Xi'an City as an example. The results show that the urban water safety level in Xi'an increases year after year and finally stabilizes at level II. The shortcomings are the amount of water resources per capita, the amount of groundwater recharge, the proportion of secondary industry, and the effective irrigation area. There is no change in water security level before and after index selection. After simplifying the index system, the method of information substitutability index selection can retain much of the information of the original index system. The method of variable weight can more realistically reflect the role played by each indicator in different states. Objective Summarize the clinical characteristics and treatment plan of 2 cases of abnormal anastomosis at the origin of the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) complicated with aneurysm. Methods and Results Two cases of abnormal anastomosis of the PICA complicated with aneurysms all showed spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). MRI showed abnormal anastomosis of the PICA, accompanied by multiple small aneurysms at the anastomotic vessel or anastomotic site. All patients underwent occipital artery (OA) -PICA bypass graft and electrocoagulation of the aneurysms at the same time. Use "PICA anastomosis" as the key words to search PubMed (January 1, 2000 to June 30, 2021) 8 articles in English, 8 patients, combined with 2 cases in this article cases, a total of 10 patients with abnormal anastomosis at the origin of the PICA complicated with aneurysm. All cases occurred as spontaneous SAH; 8 cases of aneurysms occurred at the anastomosis site, one case occurred at the distal end of the PICA, and one case occurred in a branch of the original artery. Five cases underwent craniotomy, 3 cases of OA-PICA bypass surgery and concurrent electrocoagulation (2 cases) or clipping (one case) of the aneurysms, one case of simple aneurysm clipping, and one case of aneurysm clipping combined with cutting off anastomotic artery, and there were no clear complications after surgery; 4 cases underwent endovascular interventional treatment, 2 cases of coil embolization of aneurysms, 2 cases of Glubran glue embolization of aneurysms, of which 3 cases had postoperative complications, manifested as mild brainstem infarction (2 cases) or disturbance of consciousness (one case). Conclusions Abnormal anastomosis at the origin of the PICA complicated with aneurysm is rare, and the risk of rupture and hemorrhage is high. Objective To assess the efficacy of occipital artery (OA)-posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) bypass for the treatment of vertebral aneurysms involving PICA. Methods and Results A total of 6 patients with vertebral aneurysms involving PICA treated by OA-PICA bypass in Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology from January 2016 to December 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Complications were recorded and outcomes were assessed by modified Rankin Scale (mRS). OA-PICA bypass was successfully performed in 6 patients and bypass patency was confirmed by intraoperative indocyanine green angiography (ICGA). OA-PICA bypass and surgical trapping were performed in the same session in one patient (Case 4). Elective endovascular trapping was applied after bypass in 3 cases (Case 1, Case 3, Case 5). Elective stent implantation was conducted in one patient (Case 2) after the bypass surgery. One patient (Case 6) died of aneurysm rehemorrhage 10 h after OA-PICA bypass. No complications were observed during the hospitalization in the remaining 5 patients. Bypass patency was achieved in a mean follow-up time of 37 months and outcome was favorable (mRS was 1, for all) one year after the final surgery.
