This study investigated the role of mobile applications as aids in solving systems of linear equations with two variables through the graphical method. The use of mobile applications was examined in a group of primary and lower school students to evaluate their effectiveness in learning mathematics and improving their skills in solving systems of linear equations. The main goal of this scientific paper is to investigate and evaluate the role of mobile applications as aids in solving systems of linear equations, involving students in the research process. The research method included a mixed-methods design including quantitative analysis of mobile application results and qualitative analysis of students' experiences and opinions. Data collection was conducted through individual interviews and classroom observations. The results show that the use of these technological tools has a positive impact on the involvement of students, increasing the interest and efficiency of learning. The findings also highlight challenges and suggestions for improving the use of mobile applications in the mathematics teaching context. Unit distributions, exhibiting inherent symmetrical properties, have been extensively studied across various fields. A significant challenge in these studies, particularly evident in parameter estimations, is the existence and uniqueness of estimators. Often, it is challenging to demonstrate the existence of a unique estimator. The major issue with maximum likelihood and other estimator-finding methods that use iterative methods is that they need an initial value to reach the solution. This dependency on initial values can lead to local extremes that fail to represent the global extremities, highlighting a lack of symmetry in solution robustness. This study applies a very simple, and unique, estimation method for unit Weibull and unit Burr XII distributions that both attain the global maximum value. Therefore, we can conclude that the findings from the obtained propositions demonstrate that both the maximum likelihood and graphical methods are symmetrically similar. Stress and deformation analysis of a cavity in an infinite/finite medium is a fundamental applied mechanics problem of interest in multiple physics and engineering disciplines. This paper develops a complete semianalytical solution for the cylindrical cavity expansion in nonassociated Mohr–Coulomb materials, by using the graphical approach and Lagrangian formulation of the cavity boundary value problem (through tracing the responses of a single material point at the cavity wall). The novelty of the new solution framework lies not only in the relaxation of the stringent intermediacy assumption for the vertical stress as usually adopted in the previous analyses, but also in the comprehensive consideration of nonhydrostatic initial stress conditions via arbitrary values of K0 (the coefficient of earth pressure at rest defined as the ratio between the horizontal and vertical initial stresses). The essence of the so-called graphical method, i.e., the unique geometrical analysis and tracking of the deviatoric stress trajectory, is fulfilled by leveraging the deformation requirement that during cavity expansion the progressive development of the radial and tangential strains must maintain to be compressive and tensile, respectively. With the incorporation of the radial equilibrium condition, the problem is formulated to solve a single first-order differential equation for the internal cavity pressure with respect to a pivotal auxiliary variable, for all the distinct scenarios of K0 being covered. Some selected results are presented for the calculated cavity pressure-expansion curve and limit cavity pressure through an example analysis. The definitive semianalytical solution proposed will be not only substantially advancing the current state of knowledge on the fundamental cavity expansion theory, but also able to serve as a unique benchmark for truly verifying the correctness and capability of the classical cornered Mohr–Coulomb constitutive model built in commercial finite element programs. Single-point incremental forming (SPIF) has emerged as a cost-effective and rapid manufacturing method, especially suitable for small-batch production due to its minimal reliance on molds, swift production, and affordability. Nonetheless, SPIF's effectiveness is closely tied to the specific characteristics of the employed sheet materials and the intricacies of the desired shapes. Immediate experimentation with SPIF often leads to numerous product defects. Therefore, the pre-emptive use of numerical simulations to predict these defects is of paramount importance. In this study, we focus on the critical role of the forming limit curve (FLC) in SPIF simulations, specifically in anticipating product fractures. To facilitate this, we first construct the forming limit curve for Al1050 sheet material, leveraging the modified maximum force criterion (MMFC). This criterion, well-established in the field, derives FLCs based on the theory of hardening laws in sheet metal yield curves. In conjunction with the MMFC, we introduce a graphical approach that simplifies the prediction of forming limit curves at fracture (FLCF). Within the context of the SPIF method, FLCF is established through both uniaxial tensile deformation (U.T) and simultaneous uniform tensile deformation in bi-axial tensile (B.T). Subsequently, the FLCF predictions are applied in simulations and experiments focused on forming truncated cone parts. Notably, a substantial deviation in fracture height, amounting to 15.97%, is observed between simulated and experimental samples. To enhance FLCF prediction accuracy in SPIF, we propose a novel method based on simulations of truncated cone parts with variable tool radii. A FLCF is then constructed by determining major/minor strains in simulated samples. To ascertain the validity of this enhanced FLCF model, our study includes simulations and tests of truncated cone samples with varying wall angles, revealing a substantial alignment in fracture height between corresponding samples. This research contributes to the advancement of SPIF by enhancing our ability to predict and mitigate product defects, ultimately expanding the applicability of SPIF in diverse industrial contexts. The armature reaction of the hybrid excitation starter generator (HESG) under load conditions will affect the distribution of the main magnetic field and the output performance. However, using the conventional field-circuit combination method to study the armature reaction has the problem of low accuracy and inaccurate influencing factors. Therefore, this paper proposed a graphical method to analyze the armature reaction and a new type of HESG with a combined-pole permanent magnet (PM) rotor and claw-pole electromagnetic rotor. The analytical formula of the voltage regulation rate under the armature reaction was derived using the graphical method. The main influencing parameters of the armature reaction magnetic field (ARMF) were analyzed, and the overall output performance was analyzed using finite element software. On this basis, comparison analyses before and after optimization and the prototype test were carried out. The results show that the direct-axis armature reaction reactance, quadrature-axis armature reaction reactance, and voltage regulation rate of the optimized HESG were significantly reduced, the output voltage range of the whole machine was wide, and the voltage regulation performance was good. Through data mining, this paper completes collecting and mining information in the database using artificial intelligence. Secondly, the graphical method is analyzed, image normalization calculation is carried out to complete the technical support for green concept packaging design, and a green concept product packaging design system based on artificial intelligence technology is constructed. Finally, the ease of use experiment and user satisfaction test confirmed it. The user satisfaction test showed a satisfaction rate of 95% for response time and 97% for material recycling. The fact that other test options are above 90% indicates that the green concept product packaging design based on artificial intelligence technology is feasible.

The objective is to solve the college physics problem of a block sliding down a movable smooth wedge without friction anywhere using a spatial-numeric perspective. The drawing method used the sum of the normal force and weight of the block to find the wedge acceleration. The drawing method results are equivalent to the algebra method results within drawing accuracy. The result of a geometric construction with regular drawing uncertainly was shown for the case without any horizontal applied force. For the case of a given horizontal applied force, an additional numeric graphing method was shown with additional drawing uncertainty in the result. The geometric construction without graphing resuted in solving the horizontal applied force case via scaling in the concept of modified gravity experienced by the block on the wedge’s slant edge, assuming a pre-requisite knowledge of algebra and trigonometry. The presented spatial numeric method and results imply a Physics First pedagogy of using the spatial numeric abilities, with the inclusion of the pre-projectile problem, pre-traffic-light problem, and post-collision problem in a one-semester syllabus.

Precipitation is the most critical element of the hydrological cycle that might influence the frequency of floods or drought. Therefore, for drought and flood forecasting, knowing the precipitation pattern and its trend is mandatory. The research aims to estimate the monthly, seasonal, and annual precipitation trend using statistical (Mann Kendall test & Sen's Slope estimator) and graphical (Innovative Trend Analysis method) for the Hanumangarh district of N-E Rajasthan. The mean monthly precipitation data were gathered from the India-WRIS from 1901 to 2022 (122 years). Seasonal and annual precipitation trend variations were examined by statistical methods and compared with the graphical method. The study results conclude that precipitation trends showed variability for the SW monsoon season from the graphical to the statistical method. For the SW monsoon season, the decreasing trend was seen using statistical methods. In contrast, the graphical method revealed an increasing trend. During the annual precipitation, increasing trends were seen using statistical and graphical methods. It is found that the ITA method is more efficient in finding trends because it does not assume any assumptions like that of the MK test. This study will help water resources engineers and local people with sustainable management, planning, and development of water resources in the Hanumangarh district. Ellipsometrically obtained spectral dependences of ordinary αxy and extra-ordinary αz extinction/attenuation coefficients within the spectral range λ = 300…980 nm of uniaxially anisotropic polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) films were analyzed. We considered the capabilities and specific features of the graphical representation technique for determining the contribution of Rayleigh scattering and Urbach absorption to light attenuation in the spectral range beyond fundamental absorption. It has been shown that the graphical approach enables to estimate these contributions qualitatively, semi-quantitatively or quantitatively, depending on the situation. The conclusions made using the analysis of graphical representation are confirmed by numerical solution of the inverse problem via simulation of the αxy (λ), αz (λ) experimental dependences within the framework of a best-fit procedure. Being based on both of these approaches, we have ascertained that, in the as-prepared PTFE films, the so-called anomalous light scattering (ALS) with the spectral dependence of scattering coefficient αs ≈ as λ–p (p > 4) takes place. Transformation of scattering from ALS to the Rayleigh one with p ≅ 4 due to annealing is accompanied by an increase of Urbach (subband) absorption. Both of these factors cause narrowing the dynamic range of extinction coefficient values. Both scattering and absorption coefficients are higher for the component of light polarized along the normal to the substrate as compared to the component polarized in parallel to it. The Bayesian approach is applied to estimation of the Weibull-power law process (WPLP) parameters as an alternative to the maximum likelihood (ML) method in the case when the number of events is small. For the process model considered we propose to apply the independent Jeffreys prior distribution and we argue that this is a useful choice. Comparisons were also made between the accuracy of the estimators obtained and those obtained by using other priors—informative and weakly informative. The investigations show that the Bayesian approach in many cases of a fairly broad collection of WPLP models can lead to the Bayes estimators that are more accurate than the corresponding ML ones, when the number of events is small. The problem of fitting the WPLP models, based on ML and Bayes estimators, to some real data is also considered. It is shown that the TTT-concept, used in the reliability theory, is not fully useful for the WPLP models, and it may be so for some other trend-renewal processes. One of the main reasons for the decline of urban historic areas in China is the co-existence of multiple property rights. It also deeply affects conservation and regeneration practice. This paper aims to propose a graphical method that illustrates the association between property rights, space, and resident behavior. Based on typological maps and justified graphs, a three-step method was proposed to visualize the relationships between these three elements. The final graph and quantitative data were used to observe the evolution of the courtyard building from a diachronic perspective, as well as to compare the residential behavior in different types from a synchronic perspective. The results show that following the subdivision of property rights, the building layout become more diverse due to various illegal additions, while the residential behavior within different building types tends to be consistent. Moreover, the study observed the traditional Chinese courtyard buildings’ adaptability. The findings contribute to understand the evolution of Chinese urban historic areas and internal motivation, and provide guidance for the conservation and regeneration practice.

Rainfall is an important part of the hydrological cycle, as well as its variability, and is relevant to drought and floods. Long-term changes in hydrological processes are referred to as climate change for an area. Urbanization, population growth, and economic growth are all having negative effects on the environment. The study of trends in the long term is essential from climatic change and socioeconomic perspectives. Examining the temporal variations in rainfall is crucial because changes in rainfall patterns and distribution can have a significant impact on the amount of water available in a watershed. The objective of the study is to assess the long-term (1902–2021) temporal trends in seasonal (winter, pre-monsoon, monsoon, and post-monsoon) and annual rainfall for the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan state using the innovative trend analysis (ITA) technique. Due to its ability to provide results in graphical form, the ITA approach is a very useful tool for detecting patterns in rainfall time series data. This technique is also used to detect trends as ‘low,’ ‘medium,’ and ‘high,’ which should be considered in future studies on floods ‘high’ and drought ‘low’, respectively. Based on the above study, it is observed that no trend is detected for the annual season, a positive trend is detected in the winter season and a negative trend is detected for pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons in some regimes respectively. The ITA of the S-W monsoon also specifies that in the low regime the nature of the trend is increasing and in the high regime nature of the trend is decreasing. This research will serve as a scientific foundation for assessing and mitigating the effect of climate change on the environment to reduce the risk of weather patterns. This paper presents timber lamella structures applied to the circular cylinder surface when all lamellae axes intersect at the nodes. To achieve the uniformity of all elements in this structure, the geometry of the structure must be carefully designed. The main methods for the research are graphical and numerical methods for geometric design and a prototype construction for a specific geometric pattern. The methods are discussed for their ease of replication, as well as the possibility of reinterpretation on other surfaces, while the prototype design and construction give insight into the process from design to execution. The combination of these methods allows for a thorough analysis of the geometry for lamella structures. The analysis shows that geometrical design must begin from the whole to the lamella, and that the number of element types in the structure depends on the disposition of the elements and the angle of the pattern. The discussion shows the advantages and limitations of the proposed methods, while the conclusions give the guidelines for the implementation of lamella structures into new design projects. This study presents a method for finite element (FE) simulation of a deep drawing process of a cold-rolled carbon steel (SPCC) sheet material based on the graphical method. First, uniaxial tensile specimens were prepared and experimental tests were conducted to determine the flow stress curves. The calculation of the fracture points at special strain modes (plane strain, uniaxial tensile strain, and biaxial tensile strain) was presented using the modified maximum force criterion (MMFC). After that, the graphical method was adopted for the estimation of the forming limit curve (FLC) based on several hardening laws. FE models for a deep drawing process of the SPCC sheet were then built using the calculated FLCs. Using FE simulations, the fracture heights of cylinder cups formed by the deep drawing process were finally determined and compared with those from experiments. The results showed a good agreement between simulated and measured fracture height with a maximum of 3.6 % deviation. Additionally, simulations and corresponding experiments were performed to investigate the effects of the blank holder force, punch corner radius, and drawing ratio on the fracture height of cylinder cups.

This study presents an improvement of the graphical method for plotting the shear and moment diagrams for the structural members under linearly varying loads (triangular and trapezoidal loads). Based on the parabolic nature of the shear function, when the loading varies linearly, and on the relations among load, shear, and moment, a mathematical equation is developed to locate the zero-shear point, while a geometric technique is presented to calculate the parabolic shear area. Five comprehensive examples of beams loaded with linearly varying loads are selected to illustrate the steps of the solution for the proposed techniques. The results demonstrated the applicability of the presented method, and gave exact diagrams compared with the basic graphical method. It is concluded that the proposed improved method is generally more convenient, less time-consuming, and has less computational efforts because it does not require sectioning, solving equilibrium equations, and quadratic formulas compared with the basic graphical method.

The article proposes a refined method for calculating the width of the conductors of printed circuit boards on a metal base for the onboard devices of spacecraft, depending on the current flowing. The constructed refined mathematical model of the process of conductive heat exchange between the conductors and the metal base is described. The results of calculations of various, most common, locations of layers of printed circuit boards are presented. An analysis was carried out and a refined methodology was developed based on the results obtained. It allows you to easily (without complicate calculations) calculate the necessary values of the width of conductors. This technique is based on graphical methods, but allows you to perform technical calculations with sufficient accuracy. Accuracy is achieved by using special formulas that simplify the determination of the value of a physical quantity on a logarithmic scale. The disadvantages of the proposed method are indicated.

Energy integration in petrochemical and refining industries is an effective concept to minimize dependence on heating and cooling utilities through networks of exchanger equipment. Pinch Analysis is very popular and successful technique to optimize heat recovery between heat sources and sinks. Yet, design of networks of exchangers is challenging and requires careful attention to energy consumption and exchanger areas. This work presents a graphical methodology to design exchanger networks taking into account both heat loads and transfer areas of exchanger units in one single information. A new parameter is introduced for design that is the ratio between the heat load and the exchanger area, and is determined in kW/m2. It is defined as an energy-area parameter expressing how much heat the exchanger would transfer per every meter square of area. Such parameter will be valuable key in design to screen matches of exchangers providing that both the heat and area are considered. The higher the value of the parameter, the better the performance of the exchanger, i.e. maximum heat transfer rate for minimum exchanger area. The design methodology embedding the energy-area parameter guarantees HEN designs with energy targets and minimum areas. A case is studied for the production of 100,000 t/y of dimethyl ether. An optimum network is generated by applying the new parameter with less exchanger areas and hot utility of 25% and 30%, respectively compared with an automated design by Aspen Energy Analyzer®. Also, substantial savings of about 47% in the total cost of the network are earned.

Abstract In order to investigate the interaction of genotype × trait and relationships among agronomic traits on 12 maize hybrids, an experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replicates in four regions of Karaj, Birjand, Shiraz, and Arak. Results of analysis of variance indicated that most of the genotypes were significantly different in terms of agronomic traits. Mean comparison by Duncan's method showed that KSC705 genotype was more favorable than other genotypes in all studied regions. SC604 genotype in Birjand and Karaj regions and KSC707 genotype in Shiraz region have higher rank than other genotypes. Correlation analysis was used to investigate the relationships between traits. In most of the studied regions, traits of number of grains in row and number of rows per ear were positively and significantly correlated with grain width and grain weight with grain yield. Graphical analysis was used to further investigate. Genotypes–trait interaction graph explained 59.27%, 61.22%, 59.17%, and 61.95% of total variance in Karaj, Birjand, Shiraz, and Arak, respectively. Based on the multivariate graph, KSC705, KSC706, and SC647 genotypes were identified as superior genotypes in all studied regions and KSC400 genotype did not show much response to change in traits. Correlation between grain width and number of rows in ear, plant height and grain length, one thousand grain weight and grain thickness, and ear diameter with number of grains in row was positive and significant. The results of classification graph of genotypes also divided the cultivars in to three groups as follows: KSC703, KSC400, and KSC706 genotypes in the first group; DC370, SC604, and SC301 in the second group; and KSC260, KSC704, KSC707, and SC301 in the third group.

This paper presents timber lamella structures applied to the circular cylinder surface when all lamellae axes intersect at the nodes. The methods are discussed for their ease of replication, as well as the possibility of reinterpretation on other surfaces, while the prototype design and construction give insight into the process from design to execution. The combination of these methods allows for a thorough analysis of the geometry for lamella structures. The analysis shows that geometrical design must begin from the whole to the lamella, and that the number of element types in the structure depends on the disposition of the elements and the angle of the pattern. The discussion shows the advantages and limitations of the proposed methods, while the conclusions give the guidelines for the implementation of lamella structures into new design projects.

One of the damages caused by earthquakes in engineering structures is soil liquefaction-induced damages. Because of the many factors that affect the liquefaction mechanism of soils, the assessment of liquefaction potential is a rather complex problem. In the earthquake, it is the necessary to determine the liquefaction sensitivity of soils and take precautions by estimating possible effects. The stress-based liquefaction analysis, which is the commonly used to determine the liquefaction susceptibility of the soils, has been included in the new Turkish Building Earthquake Code (TBEC). In the usage of this method, the numerous parameters such as the earthquake characteristics, the soil properties, the in-situ and underground water conditions, the properties of equipment used during field studies are needed. Due to the excessive number of parameters and empirical expressions used in the analysis, significant errors can sometimes cause in the soil investigation reports in practice. In this study, in order to make practical use of liquefaction analysis based on standard penetration test defined in TBEC, and to control quickly the performed analyses, the graphics that give the factor of safety against liquefaction of sandy soils were prepared for different depths, groundwater levels, fine contents, and SPT-N values. In addition, cards were developed to determine design parameters such as the stiffness of the columns to be used in the column formation method and the column spacing to be used for the improvement of the liquefiable soils.

We propose a powerful graphical method for evaluating the natural complex frequencies and amplitudes of the layered structures for their electromagnetic characterization. Its advantage is to show a pattern of the location of the natural complex frequencies so that it would be possible to examine how they can move for a possible error in the measurement system. The method is validated by a two-layered structure by comparing the natural complex frequencies and amplitudes computed by the proposed method and the inverse Fourier transform. Actuator rate limit phenomenon is ubiquitous in control systems, but it has always been neglected in practical engineering. Especially, few papers are published to investigate the system identification while considering the rate limit. Step function is commonly used in parameter estimation and its first‐order derivative at the step time goes to infinity, which is not affordable by real actuators. As a result, the rate limit slows down the system response speed, misleads the parameter identification, and subsequently affects the controller design and deteriorates the control performance. This study proposes both graphical method and curve fitting method to identify the first‐order plus time‐delay (FOPTD) systems with consideration of the actuator rate limit effect whose limit value is unknown. Quantitative analyses of the parameter mismatch in the traditional FOPTD model and parameter sensitivity analyses are also carried out. In order to investigate the interaction of genotype × trait and relationships among agronomic traits on 12 maize hybrids, an experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replicates in four regions of Karaj, Birjand, Shiraz, and Arak. Results of analysis of variance indicated that most of the genotypes were significantly different in terms of agronomic traits. Mean comparison by Duncan's method showed that KSC705 genotype was more favorable than other genotypes in all studied regions. SC604 genotype in Birjand and Karaj regions and KSC707 genotype in Shiraz region have higher rank than other genotypes. Correlation analysis was used to investigate the relationships between traits. In most of the studied regions, traits of number of grains in row and number of rows per ear were positively and significantly correlated with grain width and grain weight with grain yield. Graphical analysis was used to further investigate. Genotypes–trait interaction graph explained 59.27%, 61.22%, 59.17%, and 61.95% of total variance in Karaj, Birjand, Shiraz, and Arak, respectively. Based on the multivariate graph, KSC705, KSC706, and SC647 genotypes were identified as superior genotypes in all studied regions and KSC400 genotype did not show much response to change in traits. Correlation between grain width and number of rows in ear, plant height and grain length, one thousand grain weight and grain thickness, and ear diameter with number of grains in row was positive and significant. The results of classification graph of genotypes also divided the cultivars in to three groups as follows: KSC703, KSC400, and KSC706 genotypes in the first group; DC370, SC604, and SC301 in the second group; and KSC260, KSC704, KSC707, and SC301 in the third group. The packaging carton papers of products need to be checked by quality control machine after printing. Thus,a stack of carton papers shall be taken out one by one and placed onto conveyor belt. A paper picking mechanism composed of two cams and five links（including vacuum suction cups） is designed. By alternate use of inversion-graphic method and fitting of analytical formula,the profile of two cams is obtained.With a higher revolution speed,the proposed paper-picking mechanism can steadily pick 1200 carton papers every minute. Driven by the cam-linkage mechanism,its paper-picking suction cup can move in complex trajectories. Instead of interfering with paper bin,the suction cup is completely fitted to paper bin during paper picking and pauses at the right time to provide negative pressure in harmony with gas path. In this way,a smooth and reliable paper picking process is guaranteed.

In this paper, an investigation of the temporal rainfall variability in the South Island of New Zealand has been carried out using a high-quality monthly dataset of 152 rain gages with more than 50 years of observation. Possible trends in seasonal and annual rainfall values have been detected by means of the Mann–Kendall test and of a new graphical technique, Şen's method, which allows the trend identification of the low, medium, and high values of a series. As a result, different behaviors emerged in the South Island, with a rainfall increase in the southwest regions and a decrease in northeast areas. Moreover, the comparison of the trend methodologies has revealed different trend results (increasing, decreasing, or trendless time series). In particular, this study shows that Şen's method could be successfully used in the evaluation of peak and low values of data for the trend analysis of seasonal and annual rainfall values. The AE AOD – ΔAE AOD grid proposed by Gobbi et al. (2007) is a graphical method used to visually represent the spectral characterization of aerosol optical depth (AOD), i.e. Angström exponent (AE) and its curvature, in order to infer the fine mode contribution (η) to the total AOD and the size of the fine mode aerosol particles. Perrone et al. (2014) applied this method for the wavelengths widely used in lidar measurements. However, in neither case does the method allow for a direct relationship between η and the fine mode fraction contribution to the total aerosol population. Some discussions are made regarding the effect of shape and composition to the classical AE-ΔAE plot. The potential use of particle backscatter measurements, widely used in aerosol characterization methods together with extinction measurements, is also discussed in the AE-ΔAE grid context. A modification is proposed that yields the submicron contribution to the total volume concentration by using particle extinction data, and a comparison to experimental measurements is made. Our results indicate that the use of a modified AE-ΔAE grid plot to directly obtain submicrometric and micrometric mode fraction to the total aerosol population is feasible if a volume-based bimodal particle size distribution is used instead of a number-based one. • AE AOD – ΔAE AOD graphical grid plots (Gobbi) yield fine-mode contribution to AOD. • A modified Gobbi plot is proposed that links fine-mode volume contribution to AOD. • The use of particle backscatter measurements is discussed in the AE-ΔAE grid context. At gauged watersheds, the time of concentration can be estimated using rainfall-runoff data; however, at ungauged watersheds, empirical methods are used instead. Large errors in the application of empirical methods may cause inaccurate modeling of floods and unreliable structure design. In this paper, methods for calculating the time of concentration (Tc) were compared to identify the best equation for estimating Tc in ungauged watersheds of an arid region. The graphical method, based on measured data, was compared to 15 empirical methods to determine which empirical method returned the best results. The graphical method was applied to 33 rainfall-runoff events in four rural sub-watersheds located in the central parts of Hormozgan province, Iran. A ranking-based procedure was used to select the best performing empirical methods. To minimize bias and improve accuracy, the best performing empirical methods were modified by adjusting their formulas. According to the study, three empirical methods: (1) Williams, (2) Pilgrim and Mac Dermott, and (3) Arizona DOT, performed the best in the study areas. The results also showed that the modified Williams and Arizona DOT’s formulas were able to estimate the time of concentration in ungauged watersheds with an error lower than 1%.

مقدمه از تلاقی‌های دای‌آلل جهت بررسی عمل ژن و تعیین گروه‌ها و الگوهای هتروتیک می‌توان استفاده نمود. دردهه‌ی اخیر استفاده از روش گرافیکی یا روش GGE biplot در بررسی اثر متقابل ژنوتیپ × محیط در برنامه‌های به‌نژادی متداول شده است. در این روش اثر ژنوتیپ و اثر متقابل ژنوتیپ و محیط از هم تفکیک‌شده و گزینش ارقام پایدار بر اساس هر دو اثر مذکور صورت می‌گیرد. زمانی که GGE biplot برای داده‌های دای‌آلل استفاده شود هر ژنوتیپ هم به‌عنوان لاین و هم به‌عنوان تستر در نظر گرفته می‌شود. همچنین در این مواقع اصطلاحات میانگین عملکرد و پایداری ژنوتیپ‌ها به ترتیب با ترکیب‌پذیری عمومی و ترکیب‌پذیری خصوصی والدین معادل است. روش بای‌پلات ابزاری بسیار مفید جهت ارزیابی چشمی و تفسیر پاسخ الگوی ارقام، محیط‌ها و اثر متقابل آن‌ها است. هدف از این تحقیق ارائه اطلاعات زیر در رابطه با گندم به‌صورت گرافیکی بود: (1) تعیین ترکیب‌پذیری عمومی والدین؛ (2) برآورد ترکیب‌پذیری خصوصی هیبریدها؛ (3) تعیین تسترهای مناسب برای تحقیقات آینده؛ (4) تعیین بهترین هیبریدها؛ و (5) تعیین گروه‌ها و الگوهای هتروتیک در بین ژنوتیپ‌های مورد ارزیابی. مواد و روش‌ها در این تحقیق هفت رقم گندم نان به نام‌های هامون، الموت، C-84-12، گاسپارد، قدس، مغان 1، ا‌فشار (به ‌عنوان والدین) مورداستفاده قرار گرفتند. این ارقام همراه با 21 ژنوتیپ نسل F1 حاصل از تلاقی دای‌آلل آن‌ها که به‌صورت نیمه دای‌آلل (فاقد تلاقی‌های معکوس) انجام گرفته بود، در سال زراعی 92-1391 در مزرعه تحقیقاتی دانشکده‌ کشاورزی و منابع طبیعی دانشگاه آزاد اسلامی واحد کرج، در شرایط اعمال تنش رطوبتی، کشت گردیدند.طرح آماری مورداستفاده، بلوک‌های کامل تصادفی با سه تکرار بود. تجزیه واریانس داده‌ها با استفاده از نرم‌افزار SAS و تجزیه دای‌آلل توسط نرم‌افزار D2 انجام شد. آنالیزهای گرافیکی توسط نرم‌افزار GGE biplot طبق روش پیشنهادی یان و هانت صورت گرفت. به‌منظور بررسی نتایج حاصل از تلاقی دای‌آلل در گندم نان از روش بای‌پلات استفاده گردید. در این تحقیق دوازده صفت زراعی شامل عملکرد دانه، ارتفاع بوته، طول سنبله، وزن سنبله، قطر ساقه، طول ریشک، طول میانگره‌ دوم، طول پدانکل، بیرون آمدگی پدانکل، طول بذر، قطر بذر و وزن هزار دانه ارزیابی شدند. نتایج و بحث تجزیه واریانس تفاوت معنی‌داری بین ارقام از نظر اکثر صفات مورد بررسی نشان داد. میانگین مربعات ترکیب‌پذیری عمومی برای تمامی صفات به‌جز ارتفاع بوته، طول میانگره دوم و قطر ساقه معنی‌دار بود. میانگین مربعات ترکیب‌پذیری خصوصی برای تمامی صفات به‌جز قطر ساقه در سطح احتمال یک درصد معنی‌دار گردید. بیشترین و کمترین میزان میانگین عملکرد دانه به ترتیب برای والدها در ارقام هامون و افشار و برای تلاقی‌‌‌ها در هیبریدهای هامون×قدس و C-84-12×گاسپارد مشاهده گردید. بیشترین ترکیب‌پذیری عمومی مثبت و معنی‌دار برای صفت عملکرد دانه، مربوط به رقم هامون بود. بیشترینترکیب‌پذیریخصوصیمثبتومعنی‌داربرای صفتعملکرددانهدرمترمربع، مربوطبهتلاقی‌های هامون×قدسو C-84-12×مغان 1 بود. برایصفتوزن سنبله بیشترینمقادیرترکیب‌پذیریخصوصی معنی‌داربه ترتیبمربوطبه تلاقی‌های C-84-12×افشار و الموت×گاسپارد بود. برای صفت وزن هزاردانه بالاترین ترکیب‌پذیری خصوصی را تلاقی‌های الموت×قدس وC-84-12×افشار نشان دادند. برایصفتطولسنبله تلاقی‌های الموت × C-84-12و C-84-12 × قدس، گاسپارد × افشار و قدس× مغان 1 دارای ترکیب‌پذیری خصوصیمثبتومعنی‌داربودند. بر اساس نتایج حاصل از بای‌پلات داده‌های دای‌آلل برای صفت عملکرد دانه، لاین‌های الموت و افشار به ترتیب بیشترین و کمترین میزان ترکیب‌پذیری ‌عمومی را دارا بودند. ارقامC-84-12 ، قدس و گاسپارد دارای ترکیب‌پذیری خصوصی بالاتری نسبت به بقیه‌ی لاین‌ها بودند. ارقام موردبررسی به دو گروه هتروتیک تقسیم‌بندی شدند. گروه اول شامل ارقام گاسپارد، C-84-12 و هامون و گروه دوم شامل ارقام الموت، قدس، مغان 1 و افشار بود. تستر‌های قدس، الموت، C-84-12و گاسپارد از شباهت بیشتری نسبت به سایر تستر‌ها برای صفت عملکرد دانه، برخوردار بودند. ارقام قدس، C-84-12 و الموت نسبت به سایر ارقام قدرت تمیز بیشتری را دارا بودند. نتیجه‌گیری در مجموع، بین ارقام مورد بررسی تنوع ژنتیکی قابل‌توجهی وجود داشت که سبب وجود اثرهای افزایشی و غیرافزایشی برای صفات موردبررسی ازجمله عملکرد می‌شود. مقایسه نتایج تجزیه‌های عددی با نتایج گرافیکی نشان‌دهنده مطابقت خوب نتایج این دو روش بود. با توجه به برتری روش‌های گرافیکی ازنظر تفسیر سریع‌تر و ساده‌تر نتایج، استفاده از این روش‌ها، جهت سهولت در تحقیقات توصیه می‌شود.

This paper proposes a method for determining a development of the rotation surface, which is the rotation of hypocycloids with 4 branches. It has been chosen a four-cusped hypocycloid called astroid, because, due to its aesthetic shape, this could be used in industrial design. This paper proposes getting the development for a rotation surface generated by astroid. It is applied the graphical method of descriptive geometry by analogy with the developed by the sphere. This approximate graphical method is applied relatively simple and can be used when a high precision is not required for the product.

Currently, informative graphics has attracted considerable attention for its efficient and effective methods of communication. The ways in which people receive information strongly influence their ability not only to comprehend the information but also to capitalize on the purported benefits of the information. Informationdesign approaches can facilitate the creation of many good-quality designs. By understanding both the history of information design and pertinent case studies, we can familiarize ourselves with information-design methods and applications. In this article, I discuss the evolution and various forms of informative graphics on the basis of historical, content-oriented, and phenomenological analyses. I investigate visual representations' roles and identify the strengths and deficiencies of visual communication for information design. Historical evidence--such as Playfair's graphic charts and his method, Winderlich's clinical graphics, Nightingale's statistical graphs, and Snow's dot maps--show that appropriate visual formats can depict data and that these depictions can demonstrate effects over time. The graphical method can also aid in the measurement of small-time intervals between biological effects. Multiple variables enhance the exploratory power of graphics in relation to analysis and discovery. Narrative graphics associate the spatial dimension with time-series displays to depict space and time. Although many disciplines acknowledge "the importance of communication,"the general public in Taiwan has only recently begun to acknowledge the importance of informative graphics. The classical method (namely inclining experiment) has been used to estimate the vertical center of gravity (VCG or more often KG) of ships for many years. This method is based on the assumption that the metacenter is unchanged in the calculation of KG when the vessel is heeled. However, ships built today have knuckles, chines, dead-rise which may give rise to excessive change in the water-plane. The location of the metacenter is changed on these vessels when heeled. Therefore, determination of the vertical center of gravity may be somewhat erroneous. In this study, three different methods based on the assumption of unchanged metacenter have been examined. Employing the Graphical method, Polar method and Generalized method, the KG values of all vessels can be calculated without any dependence on the metacenter. The three methods mentioned in this study were studied and applied on ten different ships. Furthermore, the results from the classical method compared with those obtained from the recently developed methods. Based on this comparison, it is observed that the new methods developed have similar results to the classical method. Therefore, these methods may be a good alternative to the inclining experiment in the future. Moreover, uncertainty analyses have been performed for the results obtained from the classical method just to realize if there are any critical GM values within the margin of error. Abstract This paper presents a graphical approach to assess the detectability of multiple simultaneous faults in mechanical systems such as Air Handling Units (AHUs). Symptoms of multiple simultaneous faults can cancel each other out, resulting in no indication of abnormality and rendering these faults undetectable when the measurements collected from AHUs are processed. Still, such undetectable faults can lead to significant energy inefficiency and economic loss. We present a method to assess the detectability of a given set of faults provided the causal relations among the variables and the sensor configuration in the system. Fault detectability assessment informs decision makers about possible risk scenarios the system is exposed to and enables them to design/modify the system to reduce this exposure, e.g. by adding extra sensors where necessary. Our approach first constructs a graphical representation of a given system so that the causal relations among the variables and whether they are sensed can be visually observed, which can help predict until where a fault symptom can propagate. Then, our approach examines a given set of faults to check whether it is possible for that set to be detected by the given set of available sensors. We illustrate the application of our approach to an operational AHU and classify which sets of faults are detectable and which are not. We compare our approach with alternative methods and show that one of its benefits is the capability of handling systems with unpredictable input variables. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, there is a trend towards the development of reconfigurable circuits where devices using them offer flexibility and performance. Different technologies are explored, such as threshold logic gates (TLGs), which are one of the most promising future technologies, and researchers are examining and improving different characteristics such as density, performance and power dissipation. This research presents a 4‐bit arithmetic logic unit (ALU), which was designed using TLGs through reconfigurable logic blocks with a universal circuit configured with three stages based on a floating‐gate metal oxide semiconductor transistor with more than one control gate, which was named neu‐complementary metal oxide semiconductor (ν‐CMOS). The main contribution is that this device is configured as a ν‐CMOS inverter and has the ability to program the threshold voltage of its transfer curve by applying an external voltage to the additional control gates. The number of input bits and the magnitude of the weighted input capacitances related to control gates of the ν‐CMOS inverters is obtained and analyzed by using the graphical method (floating‐gate potential diagram). Finally, the proposed 4‐bit ALU shows similar results as those measured from the ALUs implemented in the field programmable gate array evaluation kit and the Motorola chip MC14581B. The evolution of groundwater levels is difficult to predict over medium and long term in the context of global climate change. Innovative trend analysis method (ITA) was used to identify these trends, and ITA index was calculated to measure their magnitude. The data used are sourced from 71 hydrogeological wells that were dug between 1983 and 2018 and cover an area of over 8000 km2 developed in the temperate continental climate in the north-eastern part of Romania. The results obtained by applying the ITA show a general positive trend for groundwater level over 50% of wells for winter and spring seasons and annual values. The negative trends were observed for more than 43% of wells for the autumn season followed by the summer season (less than 40%). The magnitude of trends across the region shows a significant increase for spring season (0.742) followed by winter season (0.353). Important changes in the trends slopes and magnitudes have been identified for groundwater level depth between 0 and 4 m (for winter and spring seasons) and between 4 and 6 m (for summer and autumn seasons). The results can be implemented in groundwater resources management projects at local and regional level.

The determination of the return period of frequent discharges requires the definition of flood peak thresholds. Unlike daily data, the volume of data to be processed with the generalization of hourly data loggers or even with an even finer temporal resolution quickly becomes too large to be managed by hand. We therefore propose an algorithm that automatically extracts flood characteristics to compute partial series return periods based on hourly series of flow rates. Thresholds are defined through robust analysis of field observation-independent data to obtain five independent flood peaks per year in order to bypass the 1-year limit of annual series. Peak over thresholds were analyzed using both Gumbel’s graphical method and his ordinary moments method. Hydrological analyses exhibit the value in the convergence point revealed by this dual method for floods with a recurrence interval around 5 years. Pebble-bedded rivers on impervious substratum (Ardenne rivers) presented an average bankfull discharge return period of around 0.6 years. In the absence of field observation, the authors have defined the bankfull discharge as the Q0.625 computed with partial series. Annual series computations allow Q100 discharge determination and extreme floods recurrence interval estimation. A comparison of data from the literature allowed for the confirmation of the value of Myer’s rating at 18, and this value was used to predict extreme floods based on the area of the watershed.

This paper studies the problem of tangible assets acquisition within the company by proposing a new hybrid model that uses linear programming and fuzzy numbers. Regarding linear programming, two methods were implemented in the model, namely: the graphical method and the primal simplex algorithm. This hybrid model is proposed for solving investment decision problems, based on decision variables, objective function coefficients, and a matrix of constraints, all of them presented in the form of triangular fuzzy numbers. Solving the primal simplex algorithm using fuzzy numbers and coefficients, allowed the results of the linear programming problem to also be in the form of fuzzy variables. The fuzzy variables compared to the crisp variables allow the determination of optimal intervals for which the objective function has values depending on the fuzzy variables. The major advantage of this model is that the results are presented as value ranges that intervene in the decision-making process. Thus, the company’s decision makers can select any of the result values as they satisfy two basic requirements namely: minimizing/maximizing the objective function and satisfying the basic requirements regarding the constraints resulting from the company’s activity. The paper is accompanied by a practical example.

In this study, five numerical Weibull distribution methods, namely, the maximum likelihood method, the modified maximum likelihood method (MLM), the energy pattern factor method (EPF), the graphical method (GM), and the empirical method (EM) were explored using hourly synoptic data collected from 1985 to 2013 in the district of Maroua in Cameroon. The performance analysis revealed that the MLM was the most accurate model followed by the EPF and the GM. Furthermore, the comparison between the wind speed standard deviation predicted by the proposed models and the measured data showed that the MLM has a smaller relative error of -3.33% on average compared to -11.67% on average for the EPF and -8.86% on average for the GM. As a result, the MLM was precisely recommended to estimate the scale and shape parameters for an accurate and efficient wind energy potential evaluation.

The ion mobility and ion density are key physical parameters in research of ion flow field of high‐voltage DC (HVDC) transmission lines. The Gerdien tube is one of the practical tools that can be utilised in situ measurement of ion mobility and ion density of coronated lines. The mobility spectrum, connecting the ion mobility and ion density, is an effective approach in analysis of the characteristics of corona ions and the effects of environmental factors on them. In previous studies, single measurement‐electrode Gerdien tube is frequently used to get the mobility of one single ion via graphical method or the total ion density when the tube is operating as a counter. To enable it to obtain the ion mobility spectrum, a method is devised by the analysis of graphical method and the transition phenomenon in current–voltage characteristics of the tube. Furthermore, the method is applied to the raw data of current–voltage characteristics published in the literatures. The ion mobility spectra are obtained and compared with those having been reported. By doing this, the method is validated. This new approach makes applications of Gerdien tubes more advantages in experimental researches of ion flow field of HVDC transmission lines. For metallic or composite materials, the judicious choice of cutting conditions depends on several factors that may be of such objectives (time, cost of production, material removal rate, etc.) or constraints (cutting force, temperature in the machining area, consumed power, etc.). The quality of the results depends on the optimization method and the efficiency of the algorithm involved. In this paper, graphical and particle swarm optimization (PSO) methods are proposed. They aim to determine the optimal cutting conditions (cutting speed and feed per tooth) in slotting of multidirectional carbon fiber reinforced plastic laminate (CFRP), referenced G803/914, with three knurled tools having different geometries. The experiences that led to the measures of roughness, temperature, cutting efforts, and consumed power are made in the same working conditions with cutting speed ranging from 80 to 200 m/min and feed per tooth from 0.008 to 0.060 mm/rev/tooth. In this paper, a new deployable mechanism of ring and frustum type is developed for aviation and aerospace applications. Considering the ring and frustum type, the truss deduction method is utilized to determine the configuration to implement the centripetal (axial and radial) movement. A graphical method-based approach is presented to analyze the DOF of the designed mechanism which is verified to be one both by using a virtual prototype and a physical prototype. Scissors mechanism is utilized to achieve the required high folding and unfolding ratio and to guarantee the internal space of the mechanism is not occupied. Except the inherent characteristic of a deployable mechanism, the proposed mechanism has enough kinetic energy to overcome the gravity to jump off the ground when it stretches thoroughly. Considering the required kinetic energy, springs are used as the driver to store enough energy. The dynamic model of the mechanism is put forward to identify the stiffness of the driving spring and the mass of each connecting rod and the upper and lower platforms. The virtual prototype simulation and the physical prototype both validate the function of the new design and the feasibility of the proposed analytical approaches. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
