Most publications justify that digitalization is a source of economic growth, to a greater extent in the countries with higher levels of economic development. However, some papers fail to find empirical evidence supporting this claim, attributing it to digitalization being in its initial stages or to the presence of the digitalization paradox. Economic literature exhibits a degree of ambiguity in its conclusions regarding the role of the digital economy in growth. Researchers employ different measures of digitalization, country and year samples, control variables in regression equation, as well as different regression methods, which can provoke ambiguous effects on the parameters of digital variables. The purpose of the article is to identify the role of digitalization in economic growth by justifying an economic growth model with the digitalization index and providing detailed discussions on our sample of countries over recent years, along with options for regression estimators. The article utilizes statistical data from the World Bank, European Commission, and Heritage Foundation. Methods such as system analysis, statistical analysis, and the regression estimator of panel data with fixed effects are implemented to identify the role of digitalization in economic growth. We have designed an economic growth model incorporating the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) of EU member states for the years 2017-2022, utilizing available data. The results reveal a positive and significant causal effect of digitization on gross output growth. Specifically, a 1% increase in the digitalization index results in GDP growth of almost 0.2%. Moreover, we observe the important roles of capital, labor, trade, human capital, and intellectual property rights in driving growth, consistent with the theory of endogenous growth. Proving the importance of digitalization for economic growth can be an argument for policies aimed at promoting digitalization. We suggest further research on the role of digitalization at a more disaggregated level of industries. However, our study does not demonstrate a statistically significant effect of research activity and institutional quality on gross output. The provision of public services, mostly by local governments, has been widely analyzed in the scientific literature. The relevance of these services has generated an incipient demand for information on the part of citizens, which makes it necessary for the bodies responsible for their provision to present adequate levels of transparency. In this context, digitalization is a crucial tool for providing information to citizens and, therefore, contributing to improving the levels of transparency of those organizations that provide public services. Among these, the drinking water supply service stands out, which is crucial for well-being and sustainable progress, and whose analysis is of vital importance, especially in countries such as Spain affected by factors such as climate change and urbanization. In this way, the aim of this paper is to analyze the degree of transparency of the companies providing water supply services in Spain, as well as their degree of digitalization. To this end, a relationship will be established between the Transparency Index of Public Enterprises (INDEP) and the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE), which measure the degree of transparency and digitalization, respectively. This relationship will be established for a sample of 59 companies responsible for water supply. The main results derived from this study show a wide margin for improvement on the part of the companies analyzed, both in terms of transparency and digitalization, as the vast majority of these companies show a medium–low degree of compliance in both aspects. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the economy across the globe and generated uncertainties in the functioning of the industries, governments and the daily life of people. The impact that this crisis has on poverty alleviation, the global GDP and the rapid development of the digitalization process are some of the factors that have reshaped the world. Hence, the way in which the companies and different sectors have operated is now in the past. The new economic condition requires quick adaptability to the new trends and fast implementation of digital solutions. Therefore, new strategies and more advanced practices are a necessity not only for the proper functioning of the businesses, but for the governments and the countries as well. The rapid shift towards the digital channels caught many businesses off guard. All these fast changes and the late transformation slowed down the economic growth, mostly in the countries that did not reacted immediately. Considering that the Balkan region tried to provide digitally enhanced offerings and maintain the economic growth during the pandemic, many people were laid off, many business sectors were affected and many companies were closed. All these transformations affected the economic development and stagnated the growth. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to evaluate what are the main factors that have affected the economic growth in the Balkan region and the reason that contributed to digital transformation of these countries. Digitalization and new technologies are now firmly on the agendas of governments worldwide. New technological trends have not only become catalysts for economic development, but are also reshaping how the public sector works and implements its policies. Amid technological transformations, the countries of Central Asia are searching for new ways to adapt to these changes. This paper aims to assess these attempts by exploring the digitalization policies of the five Central Asian countries. By using qualitative methods and expert interviews, the article identifies key limitations and potential areas of development for the Central Asian states regarding digitalization and artificial intelligence. By providing valuable insights, the article contributes to a deeper understanding of the digitalization challenges faced by developing countries. Through the analysis of local expert opinions, the article seeks to contribute valuable insights to the distinct approaches adopted by these countries, thus enriching the understanding of the region’s trajectory in the digital era. Today the strategic vector of agricultural development is connected with the introduction of digital technologies. Digitalization leads not only to transformation of production processes in the industry but as well has much wider environmental, social and institutional context. This paper is aimed at finding out what digital transformations have the most strategic significance for social and economic development of agro-industrial regions of the south of Russia, as well as at revealing the factors fostering or constraining these processes. Digital transformation in the south Russian regions has just affected the first level -- application of new information technologies for raising economic performance and simultaneous alleviating environmental problems. The perspectives of digitalization of the agriculture are connected with developing open collaborative systems with different types of business collaborations. The authors highlight the main problems of realizing digital transformations in the agriculture of the south regions solving of which can be provided by means of authorities' institutional decisions within regional strategies of digitalization. This research gives an idea of the potential of agricultural digitalization and its results can be used for forming theoretical and methodological grounds for strategic development of agriculture in agro-industrial regions in modern circumstances. In the digital era, digitalization brings great opportunities and challenges for cities' environmental governance and economic growth. However, it is worth noting that the impact of digitalization on cities' green transition has not been studied from the perspective of Metcalfe's Law. This paper uses the principal component method and non-radial directional distance function (NDDF) to calculate the digital development level and the green economic performance of 269 Chinese cities from 2003 to 2019. (1) The empirical findings demonstrate that digitalization has become a strong driver for cities' green economic transformation. (2) Digitalization indirectly promotes green transition through industrial structure optimization and green technological innovation. (3) The heterogeneity results show that the positive effect of digitalization on green development is more obvious in eastern and economically developed cities. (4) Using the partially linear functional-coefficient model (PLFC), this paper studies the non-linear nexus between digitalization and green economic transition from the perspective of Metcalfe's Law. Thus, Metcalfe's law is confirmed in the green transition of Chinese cities. From an economic viewpoint, tourism is heralded as bringing income to local communities. From an ecological standpoint, tourism poses a threat to environments. Sustainable tourism should leave a minimum negative impact on the places visited and preferably have rather positive impact on society. The digitization of the tourism economy is conducive to increasing the efficiency of enterprises operations, but also have positive impact on consumers. The objectives of the study are: to seek an answer to the question whether there is a relationship between the development of the tourism industry and GDP growth. Based on it there are two specific questions: What is a relationship between the level of development of digitization (e-commerce) and the development of the tourism industry and what is a relationship between the development of the tourism industry and sustainability factors? The originality of our research results among others results from three groups of variables use in the analysis (ICT group, SDG group and E&T group). The term «Society 4.0» is used to define a group of people in advanced economies who form a modern cultural society, which is heavily influenced by technological developments and digitalization and having a significant impact on most aspects of human life. The notion of Society 4.0 is closely related to and factually corresponds with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is also referred to as «Industry 4.0» and widely debated. Despite its topicality, this concept has not received as much publishing attention as anticipated. Surprisingly, the term «Society 5.0», which describes what the current society will gradually transform into in the near future, receives much more focus in this context. The aim of this article is to present the concept of Society 4.0 in its factual form and to identify its general exogenous and endogenous implications, in particular in the sphere of economics. Spain has a serious depopulation problem in large part of its territory and mainly in rural areas, where the population density is even lower than ten inhabitants per km2. An example of this depopulation phenomenon, known as "depopulated Spain", is the region of Castilla y León. STEAM knowledge areas (Sciences, Technologies, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) are essential to achieve the socio-economic growth of the territories and, with it, the desired population growth. Faced with this challenge, STEAM graduates can help to strengthen the industrial fabric and increase economic development. The main objectives of this research are the analysis (i) of the trend and (ii) of the gender gap in STEAM degrees and Ph.D. programs in Castilla y León. The evolution of the number of enrolled and graduated students in STEAM knowledge areas in the last years was analyzed to achieve these objectives, as well as the future trend. The results obtained showed a lack of STEAM graduates in Castilla y León, as well as the existence of a gender gap. The purpose of the article is to model the main stages of sustainable development through the digital transformation of educational institutions in the region. World trends in the development of society, education, science and economy are aimed at the transition to digital transformation. Successful digitalization is becoming a key condition for the successful functioning of both the region and the entire country. Accordingly, today the successful sustainable development of the region is impossible without effective digitalization of higher education. Based on the results of the study, paired models of sustainable development of the region were formed with the help of digital transformations, taking into account the characteristics of the educational environment. The study has a number of limitations related to the inability to cover more than one region. The current global changes bring to the fore the importance of the innovation and digital transformation for economic development. Under the previous assumption, an objective evaluation of the economic growth discrepancies, considering the digitalization process, is required. The main goal of the present research is to analyse the economic growth of the European countries, based to the digitalization process, by using an input-output method. Under these circumstances, a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was performed, considering the digitalization dimensions of DESI Index as input and the economic growth (annual %) as output. Based on the proposed model, the results highlighted the bidirectional relationship between economic growth and digitalization. Consistent with the research results, the European countries can be divided in two main categories: the efficient and the inefficient. On one hand, we can find the relatively efficient European states in terms of achieving the economic growth through digitalization (Ireland, Romania, Croatia and Greece). On the other hand, there is a numerous list of the inefficient ones, including important countries like Finland, Germany or France. Obviously, a remarkable aspect related to their situation is that, considering the national available inputs, an output maximization will be possible. According to the proposed model, the efficient countries can serve as peers or optimal benchmarks for solving the issue of relative inefficiency, by adapting and implementing their good practices. The purpose of this scientific article is to analyze the impact of digital transformations on doing business in order to substantiate the actualization of digital transformation of the activities of business structures based on the further development of new business models, digital platforms, as well as services that make it possible to increase the level of efficiency of national business structures. To achieve this goal, the research was conducted on the methods of analysis and synthesis (to analyze the management of business processes of organizations and compare the features of functioning using traditional approaches and innovative digital technologies), system analysis, induction, and deduction (to determine the directions of business process management based on digitalization technologies), comparison and grouping of data, qualitative and quantitative analysis, graphical method (for the illustrated presentation of research results), abstract-logical, abstraction and concretization, systematic approach. The genesis of the development of transformational processes of business digitization is considered. The key importance and role of the analysis of the main challenges and directions of digital transformations in the current business environment, including important issues of anti-crisis support for the stable economic development of business structures for the long term in the era of informatization of society, are determined. The key factors of influence on the structural and organizational changes of digitalization processes that significantly affect the conditions and methods of doing business are substantiated. It has been established that the digital transformation of economic development of business structures has led to the emergence of new challenges in the context of business management. It is determined that the basis of business in the digital economy is an information database around which all business processes are built and improved, new business ideas and business models and ecosystems are formed, which provide for close interaction and interconnection of all structural elements of the economic system of enterprises in cyberspace. It is proved that the creation of digital business processes is associated with fundamental reengineering and revision of existing restrictions, as well as taking into account a number of factors that directly or indirectly affect the final result of business structures. The analysis of the impact of digital transformations of any direction (production, managerial, social and personnel), as well as the change in the business model, which is positioned as a logical scheme for doing business and which provides for the effectiveness of the interaction of correctly selected components, confirmed the presence of a positive impact on the economic and organizational development of business structures by increasing labor productivity, the level of competitiveness and performance. As the primary industry in an economy, sustainable agricultural growth has attracted much attention from researchers and policy-makers worldwide. Digitalization reform and information technology greatly impact agriculture, rural areas, and farmers, improving high-quality development and green growth in the agricultural sector. Based on a measure of digitalization and a green productivity indicator, this paper investigates the impact of internet development on the economic and environmental performance of Chinese agriculture. The empirical results suggest that substantial green growth is observed in Chinese provincial agriculture, which is largely motived by technological progress. Internet popularization and digital technology indeed promote sustainable development in agriculture. Creating an effective tax system in the country is one of the most important conditions for ensuring its competitiveness. Today, there is a process of active tax competition between states around the world. This determines the importance of creating conditions for the introduction of digital technologies in the field of taxation, which can radically change the efficiency of tax authorities and facilitates the transition of tax systems to a qualitatively new level of development. Thus, within the article, theoretical provisions of the development of fiscal digitalization as an objectively necessary component of reforming tax systems in the current context of the national economy digitalization are examined. This was implemented through the study of the digitalization essence, which was carried out based on the analysis of the formed scientific concepts of this phenomenon consideration, concretization of the influence of such phenomenon on the national economy development. As a result, advantages of the digital technologies introduction for the tax system of the countries are also determined. To specify the essence of fiscal digitalization, within the article, the content of fiscal and digital space is considered, their objective convergence in the current conditions of economic development are substantiated, as well. It is known that the evolution of digital technologies, together with a combination of other essential generic technologies, leads to a change in the way we design, produce and market related products and services, as well as in the way how value is generated from them. Digitalization and transformation of the business process to create remarkable customer experience are absolutely necessary for any company that wants to evolve and succeed in the fast-digitizing business environment. The main objective of this research was to discover how digitalization influences economic growth. The databases used were Eurostat and World Bank. We selected 8 main research variables, which were divided into two sets to describe (i) the phenomenon of digitalization by digital skills, mobile subscriptions, enterprises with e-commerce, and (ii) the phenomenon of economic growth by real GDP growth, unit labour cost growth, resource productivity and R&D expenditure of GDP. The research methodology was centred on Canonical Correlation Analysis to reveal the connections within and between the two phenomena. The results revealed, for example: the digitalization set was able to explain 70.33% of economic growth with the correlation of 0.800; the real GDP growth is affected by the share of enterprises involved with e-commerce, unit labour costs and resource productivity are affected by high-level digitalization seen by enterprises conducting data analysis on customers for marketing purposes; and that digital skills and R&D expenditures are positively related. This paper examines the contribution of digitalization to economic growth of Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) in comparison with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) economies. The main reason for comparing the most and the least developed countries to measure the effects of digitalization is to have an insight of whether such effects depend on the levels of development of the country. New technologies in Sub Saharan Africa are assumed to have played significant roles in economic activity, including accessibility of communications, which was impeded by poor infrastructure, accommodation of the poor majority who were initially financially excluded from mobile banking and participation of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in e-commerce. On the other hand, due to the effects of digitalization, least developed countries in SSA have been facing a premature deindustrialization. This study employs a panel dataset consisting of 11 years from 2006 to 2016 for 41 SSA and 33 OECD economies and we use the generalized linear methods of moments (GMM) estimators. The results show that digitalization has a positive contribution to economic growth in both groups of countries. The effect of broadband internet is minimal for SSA compared to OECD countries, whereas the impact of mobile telecommunications is higher in SSA compared to the OECD counterpart. These results are particularly interesting as less advanced technologies create more opportunities in the least developed countries since there is more space for improvement. The research objective is to identify key issues for and aspects of digital economy development in Russia. Both general scientific methods of cognition (combination of historical and logical unity, traditional analysis and synthesis methods) and specific evaluation methods served as a methodological basis for the research. The society development stages were examined. The role of digital economy as a new paradigm for development was substantiated. Goals and targets of digital economy were identified. Positive effects for and risks to economic development associated with implementation of digital technology were described.
