The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of denture wearing on the occurrence of fungal isolates in the oral cavity before and after complete denture insertion. Fifty completely edentulous patients were selected. Swab samples were collected intraorally before the fabrication of complete dentures from the palatal mucosal surface and after complete denture fabrication (1 and 7 days after denture insertion). Further, these samples were inoculated and incubated. Results showed that in 48 patients, no isolate of fungus before denture insertion was found. In two subjects, results were false positive (contamination from the environment), and in six patients, there was an increase in growth, but not much significant increase of growth was seen (mild growth of fungus only after denture insertion). One of the major findings of this study was that the overall occurrence of fungal isolates (before and after denture insertion) in the oral cavity was not significant.

Background/aim The masticatory problem of removable complete dentures had been introduced by many researchers to be assisted by many recent technologies. Solving such issues advances self-patient satisfaction, confidence, and motivation. This study aimed to evaluate masticatory performance and patient satisfaction of metal-reinforced and CAD/CAM-fabricated acrylic resin mandibular complete dentures. Patients and methods Sixteen completely edentulous patients were divided randomly following a 1 : 1 allocation ratio into two groups; group I received maxillary and mandibular complete dentures constructed from acrylic resin reinforced with chrome cobalt framework and group II received maxillary and mandibular rapid prototype complete dentures (3D-printed) using the CAD/CAM technique. At baseline, 2, and 4 weeks, masticatory performance using the masticatory efficiency index and patient satisfaction using Borerrigter’s method of assessing patient satisfaction were evaluated at each interval for further statistical analysis using one-way analysis of variance test followed by Tukey’s post-hoc test for multiple comparisons and Pearson’s correlation coefficient between different variables. Results Regarding masticatory performance for each group, one-way analysis of variance revealed a significant difference between different intervals as a P value less than 0.05 with higher masticatory values for group II, while for patient satisfaction, it showed an insignificant difference for all satisfaction domains as a P value more than 0.05. The correlation between masticatory performance and overall patient satisfaction was calculated using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and revealed a moderate to strong, positive, significant correlation in both groups. Conclusion The masticatory performance and patient satisfaction of mandibular complete dentures constructed by the 3D-printed CAD/CAM method were higher than acrylic resin denture bases reinforced with chrome cobalt framework, denoting that the 3D-printed CAD/CAM method can be the primary clinical treatment option for completely edentulous patients despite its overall level of satisfaction, which requires additional follow-up investigations to pronounce the positive effect of CAD/CAM dentures.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type of oral cancer with multi-factorial causes. Chronic irritation of oral mucosa from ill-fitting dentures has often been mentioned as a contributing factor in the development of oral cancer. There is a unique category of non-smoking non-drinking (NSND) patients reported with carcinoma which usually occurs in women. In contrast to this, our report includes a male patient who is an NSND patient. This case report includes a rare occurrence of carcinoma induced by ill-fitting prosthesis.

Background: Successful denture fitting depends on three key factors: retention, stability, and support. While creating a denture for the upper jaw is relatively easy, the lower jaw presents more challenges due to greater issues with retention and stability. This is because dentures tend to move around relative to the underlying bone during use. To address this problem, a customized tool (an impression and cast) was used in a study to measure the depth of the retromylohyoid fossa. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the type of tongue and depth of the retromylohyoid fossa using an impression and cast. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in the department of prosthodontics, where all patients received regular check-ups and dental treatments. The retromylohyoid fossa(extension) and tongue were examined in a sample of 500 patients aged between 20 and 50 years, and impressions were taken. Results: The measurements were recorded, and the depth of the retromylohyoid fossa was assessed. The tongue was also studied. Conclusion: This retromylohyoid fossa and tongue are a suspense itself, and our method is just a suggestion for the mandibular denture prosthesis success.

Introduction: This study aimed to find out how exposure to gaseous ozone affected heat-cured acrylic resin’s transverse and impact strengths. Methods: Sixty samples of heat-cured acrylic resin were prepared and divided into three subgroups, control, microwave radiation (positive control), and gaseous ozone. Transverse strength and impact strength were evaluated using testing machines. At a level of significance of 5%, data were assessed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s post hoc test. Results: Transverse strength analysis showed a significant difference among groups (P < 0.001). Post hoc test revealed significant differences between all multiple groups (P < 0.001). Impact strength analysis results showed a non-significant difference among groups (P = 0.13). Conclusion: Within the limits of this research, it is possible to conclude that gaseous ozone exposure improves the transverse strength of heat-cure acrylic resin.

Introduction: Accidental ingestion of dentures can lead to certain life-threatening complications. Duodenal impaction is particularly a challenging situation. Minimally invasive procedures can help when done as a combined approach. Our Modification: Endoscopy is the first-line management of retained foreign bodies. However, in difficult locations, a combined endoscopy and laparoscopy can help prevent complications and associated morbidity and improve outcome for the patient. Benefit: Decreased post-operative morbidity and better outcome for the patient.

Palatal fistula is a major complication following cleft palate repair and in combination with premature primary teeth loss, compromises a child's mastication, nutrition, speech, and aesthetics. Other major symptoms comprise hyper nasality of voice and nasal regurgitation. Therefore, rehabilitation of the palatal defect and the partially edentulous space needs to be performed until the surgical repair of the palatal fistula is achieved. This case report describes the oral prosthetic rehabilitation of a 4-year-old patient with a palatal fistula and prematurely lost primary incisors utilizing a removable partial denture obturator.

Forensic odontology is a branch of forensic sciences that uses the skill of a dentist in personal identification during mass calamities, sexual assault, and child abuse to name a few. Forensic odontology is an evolving science and has a greater scope of development. Recent advances in the field of genetics and molecular biology have contributed to the rapid growth of forensic odontology. In case of a crime scene, forensic odontologists play a major role in investigating and interpreting dental evidence. Forensic odontologists utilize the knowledge of dentistry in bite mark analysis, fixation of identity in mass disasters, and age estimation. Thus, the duty and responsibility of forensic odontologists has increased in recent years. Therefore, practicing dentists and dental students should be made aware of the available newer technologies and its use in forensic dentistry. This article gives an overview of recent advances used in identification in forensic dentistry.

Background: Edentulism affects the chewing ability of a person and can engender nutritional deficiencies which can affect the overall quality of life and depression. Aim: Our aim was to evaluate the association between perceived chewing ability, oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and depressive symptoms among completely edentulous patients with and without dentures. Settings and Design: Institutional study and cross-sectional design. Methods: A cross-sectional study among 207 completely edentulous persons was conducted in South India. The subjects completed a self-administered questionnaire on demographics, Beck's depression inventory, oral health impact profile-edentulous (OHIP-EDENT), age when edentate, chewing ability, and denture satisfaction. Further, denture status was clinically evaluated. Statistical Analysis: Data were summarised and analysed using the Chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression. P < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Persons not using complete dentures (odds ratio [OR] =3.5, P < 0.05), who reported impaired chewing ability (OR = 4.6, P < 0.05), those who became edentate before 55 years (OR = 4.6, P < 0.05) and with poor denture status (OR = 6.2, P < 0.05) were more likely to report depressive symptoms. Lesser impact in relation to OHRQoL was found to be protective against depression among completely edentulous (OR = 0.24, P < 0.05). Conclusion: Depressive symptoms were associated with impaired chewing ability, higher impacts on OHIP-EDENT, and edentulous persons not using complete dentures. High priority must be given to enhance awareness towards oral rehabilitation among completely edentulous to reduce the chance of depression occurring due to impaired chewing ability and poor OHRQoL.

Denture-induced fibrous hyperplasia or epulis fissuratum refers to reactive tissue alteration occurring in response to trauma and chronic irritation due to the badly fitted prosthesis. Pathologic changes observed in the oral mucosa may vary depending on the severity of trauma to the mucosa. Trauma to minor salivary glands caused by the impingement of denture flanges can result in chronic sialadenitis. In this article, we discuss a case of denture-induced fibrous hyperplasia with prominent minor salivary gland changes in a Male patient of age 63 years.

Background: Patient's satisfaction is of utmost importance to the dental professionals among all those who have undergone prosthodontic rehabilitation.The success of every dental prosthesis lies in the patient wearing those removable prostheses thereby restoring masticatory function and Phonatics, hence the aim of the present study is to determine various factors affecting the patient satisfaction among patients undergone removable Prosthodontic rehabilitation. Materials and Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional questionnaire descriptive study. The study is conducted among 183 patients undergone removable Prosthodontic rehabilitation and visiting private dental clinics for follow-up. The study was conducted in October to December 2019. The study was conducted among patients age between 21 and 60 years of age wearing removable prosthesis. Results: Among all study participants, majority of study participants were moderately satisfied with the Retention {79 (43.16%)}, Esthetics {87 (47.54%)}, Mastication {68 (37.15%)}, Finish of the denture {89 (48.63%)}, and Overall satisfaction for maxillary and mandibular dentures {93 (50.81%)}. Patient's behavior was significantly associated with overall patient satisfaction (P = 0.00*). Conclusion: Factors affecting any parameter of patient satisfaction was age, Gender, Smoking habits, duration of wearing prosthesis, no. of removal prosthesis used, number of times denture was repaired, patient behavior was significantly associated with overall patient satisfaction.

Aim: This study aims to evaluate and compare the effect of plant extract (thyme essential oil solution) and commercially available denture cleanser on the flexural strength and surface roughness of denture base resin. Settings and Design: Comparative In-vitro study. Chemical denture cleansers play a vital role in maintaining the hygiene and serviceability of the dentures. Bacterial resistance to these chemical agents paved way to plant-extracts as novel denture cleansing agents. However, the effect of these plant-extract denture cleansers on the physical and surface characteristics of denture base resins has not been evaluated. Material and Methods: A total of 90 heat polymerizing denture base material (Trevalon, Dentsply) samples were fabricated and divided into 3 groups with 30 samples each. Samples from each group were immersed in their respective denture cleanser solution (Group A- Distilled water(control); Group B- Fittydent denture cleanser; Group C- Thyme essential oil solution denture cleanser) for a simulated overnight 8hr immersion for 180 days. The samples were evaluated for increase in surface roughness and flexural strength using Tally-surf Surface Profiler and Instron Universal Testing Machine respectively. Results obtained were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Statistical Analysis Used: Oneway ANOVA , Post hoc Tukey's test. Results: Thyme essential oil solution group showed minimal increase in surface roughness (ΔRa) with values comparable to that of the control group which had the least increase in surface roughness and Fittydent group showed significant increase (P < 0.05) in surface roughness. For flexural strength, statistically significant difference (P < 0.05) was observed among the three groups with Fittydent group showing the highest flexural strength followed by control group and Thyme essential oil solution group. However, the decrease in the flexural strength was not of clinical significance. Conclusion: Plant extract - thyme essential oil denture cleanser was superior in preserving the surface roughness of denture base resins compared to commercially available denture cleanser. Clinically significant difference in flexural strength was not observed between the denture cleanser groups.

Aim: The ability of antifungal agents to reduce or eliminate biofilm formation by Candida albicans after incorporating heat-cured acrylic denture base materials was investigated. Materials and Methods: Different concentrations of Amphotericin B (AmB) and Clotrimazole (CT) were incorporated into polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) specimens (10 mm × 10 mm × 2 mm). C. albicans was stimulated to produce biofilms on the surface of specimens. Biofilm count was determined by crystal violet and transmittance percentage assays. Porosity percentage of PMMA specimens was measured. Results: AmB and CT showed more effective action against C. albicans biofilms at low concentrations (1, 5, and 10 μg/ml). Meanwhile, high concentrations (25 and 50 μg/ml) showed less activity. Porosity percentage was decreased in PMMA containing low concentrations of both antifungal agents. Conclusion: Incorporation of AmB and CT into denture materials has a significant inhibitory effect on the biofilm produced by C. albicans, especially at low concentrations. Decrease in porosity level is another advantage evidenced by incorporating low concentrations of AmB and CT within denture.

Aims: To determine the influence of hard acrylic denture base materials on the blood flow of mandibular denture supporting mucosa over a period of six months time. Materials and Methods: Select fifteen edentulous patients of age 55-75 years. The blood flow of the mandibular denture supporting mucosa was measured bilaterally in the molar region and in the incisor region utilizing Ultrasound colour Doppler (2D and Duplex Imaging). Measurements were performed prior to denture insertion and later after the dentures were worn for 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, 4 months, 5 months and 6 months. Statistical analysis used: Mean blood flow as measured by Ultrasound colour Doppler were tabulated significant changes if any at various time interval in comparison to baseline was assessed by Kruskalwallis ANOVA test followed by Wilkoxan sign rank test for pairwise comparison.( In the present study, P < 0.05 was considered as the level of significance). Results: The denture supporting mucosa exhibited a progressive reduction in the blood flow both with hard denture. The blood flow change with hard denture was a reversible condition as the blood flow improved at the end of six months. Kruskalwallis ANOVA test revealed no significant change in the blood flow at any interval of time in comparison to base value (P = 0.133). Conclusions: Within the limitations of the study denture supporting mucosa exhibited a progressive reduction in the blood flow with hard denture which was reversible.

Objective: Elderly denture wearers are vulnerable to compromised nutritional health due to various factors. Dietary guidance is an integral part of treatment for denture wearers. Evaluation of nutritional status is important for any nutrition or dietary modification. The purpose of this comparative study was to evaluate the nutritional status of elderly dentulous, denture wearing and completely edentulous patients. Methods: 120 healthy Male and Female patients between the ages of 40 to 80 years were selected and divided into three sample groups. All three groups are made to answer two forms that is Mini nutrition assessment tool (MNA) form and food frequency form. Results: According to food frequency form, 41/44 and 40/40 of dentulous and denture wearing patients respectively have roti whereas only 33/36 of edentulous patients have roti; 44/44 and 40/40 of dentulous and denture wearing patients respectively have rice and only 29/36 of edentulous patients have rice. According to mini nutritional assessment, 63.9% of the edentulous subjects were either malnourished or at the risk of malnutrition; 90% of denture wearing patients had normal nutritional status; and very minute difference of 90.9% of dentulous patients with normal nutritional status. Conclusion: Tooth loss and denture wearing, both of which affect many Indians as they age, are associated with a decrease in dietary adequacy.

Context and Aims: Long span is seen in many clinical situations; treatment planning options of these cases are difficult and may require: Fixed partial denture (FPD), removable partial denture, or implant supported prostheses. Each option has its own disadvantages: Mechanical, patient relief, and cost, respectively. This article will evaluate the stress distribution of another treatment option, which is adding a single supporting implant to the FPD using three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis. Subjects and Methods: Three models, each consisting of 5 units, were created as following: (1) Tooth pontic pontic pontic tooth, (2) tooth pontic implant pontic tooth, (3) tooth pontic pontic implant tooth. An axial force was applied to the prostheses using 3D finite element method, and stress was evaluated. Results: Maximum stress was found in the prostheses in all models, highest stress values in all shared components of the models were close. Stress in implants was less in the second model than the third one. Conclusions: Adding a supporting implant in long span FPD has no advantages, whereas it has the disadvantages of complicating treatment and the complications that may occur to the implant and surrounding bone itself.

Background: Loss of teeth affects the individual's health. Many factors determine the need to wear a removable dental prosthesis. Due to nature of design, age and lack of awareness, prosthesis often are neglected to maintain in an aseptic condition leading to microbial contamination. This provided an impetus for the present study with the aim of determining the microbial contamination of removable dental prosthesis. Methodology: Total, 45 patients wearing removable dental prosthesis were randomly selected. Patients were divided into three groups as per duration of usage since 1 month, 6 month and ≥1 year. Sterile cotton swab moistened with phosphate buffer saline (PBS) was used to collect swab from the fitting areas of prosthesis. Swab samples was inserted immediately into the sterile tube containing 1 ml of PBS solution, 10μl PBS is inoculated on the blood agar and MacConkey agar plates using spread plate technique. Samples were cultured and incubated at 37°C for 48 h. Calibrated microbiologist isolated, identified and counted microorganisms using colony counter. Depending on the nature of data, statistical analysis was done applying Kruskal–Wallis test, Mann–Whitney U-test and Chi-square test. Denture ingestion or aspiration is a problem requiring awareness of different specialists including dentists, surgeons, otolaryngologists, and anesthesiologists for prevention, early diagnosis and adequate treatment. Complications of swallowed dentures include hollow viscous necrosis, perforation, and penetration to neighbouring organs leading to fistulae, bleeding and obstruction. Here, we present the case of a 65 year old female patient who swallowed the denture, which was detected by barium swallow and removed by endoscopy. Hence, the management of swallowed denture needs a multidisciplinary approach with the help of a dentist, otolaryngologist and anesthesiologists. Dentists should recommend patients to visit them for planned check ups or revisit them in case of denture dislodgement or loosening as soon as possible to prevent such life threatening events.

Dentures are inert and nonshading surfaces and therefore get easily colonized by Candida species. Subsequent biofilm produced by them lead to denture stomatitis and candidiasis. This study was aimed to understand the prevalence of Candida species among healthy denture and nondenture wearers with respect to their age and hygiene status. Swabs were collected from 50 complete dentures and 50 non-denture wearers and processed on Sabouraud′s dextrose agar. Identification of Candida species was done by staining and a battery of biochemical tests. Data obtained was correlated with age & oral hygiene and statistical analysis was performed. Candida was isolated from both denture and nondenture wearers. Prevalence of different Candida species was significantly higher in denture wearers and found predominated by C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. dubliensis and C. glabrata. Among nondenture wearers, C. albicans and C. tropicalis were isolated. Prevalence of Candida increased with increasing age among denture wearers. Men presented declining denture hygiene compared to women with increasing age. In comparison to nondenture wearers, multispecies of Candida colonized the dentures thus presenting higher risk of candidiasis especially with increasing age.

Introduction: Candidal species colonizes the oral cavities of healthy individuals without dentures and also of denture wearers. Soft liners and tissue conditioning materials have been found to support the growth of Candida albicans which may predispose to lesions. The most important and common candidal species are C. albicans, C. tropicalis, and C. glabrata. C albicans is usually isolated from both the fitting surface of the denture and the denture-bearing mucosa of the affected patients. The aim of this study was to isolate, quantify, and speciate candidal species in non-denture wearers (controls) and denture wearers (study group) by the oral rinse technique. Isolation was done using Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA). Speciation was done using conventional methods like the germ tube test, carbohydrate fermentation test, urease test, as well as the CHROMagar method. Aims and Objective: 1) To assess the prevalence of Candida in non-denture wearers and in denture wearers by oral rinse technique, with isolation on SDA; 2) to speciate and quantify Candida in non-denture wearers and denture wearers by using conventional methods (germ tube test, carbohydrate fermentation test, urease test) and the CHROMagar method; 3) to assess the influence of smoking and diabetes on candidal species among the denture wearers; and 4) to assess the sensitivity and specificity of SDA and CHRO Magar Materials and Methods: Salivary samples for Candida evaluation were collected from the subjects in sterile sample containers, using the oral rinse technique. Results: C glabrata was the most commonly found species among denture wearers and non-denture wearers both by conventional and CHROMagar methods. In males, C. albicans was the predominant species, whereas C. glabrata was the predominant species in females. Candidal colonization was higher in denture wearers compared to non-denture wearers, especially among females. The CHROMagar method was more rapid compared to conventional methods. In the present study, CHROMagar Candida showed 100% specificity and 100% sensitivity when compared to SDA and conventional methods.

Background: One-stage surgery with immediate loading is possible, with good clinical results. Many types of dental implants are available in the market. Zimmer Dental Implants (ZDIs) have been used since the nineties, but few reports have analyzed the clinical outcome of these fixtures. We planned a retrospective study on a series 566 ZDIs, to evaluate their clinical outcome. Materials and Methods: In the period between January 2007 and June 2011, 125 patients were treatetd with ZDIs. The last check-up was performed in June 2012, with a mean follow-up period of 17 ± 9 months (minimum – maximum, 8-4 months). ZDIs were inserted as follows: 295 (53.1%) in the maxilla and 261 (46.9%) in the mandible. There were 480 (86.3%) Screw-vents, 51 (9.2%) Swiss Plusses, and 25 (4.5%) Splines. Sixteen, 355, 34, 90, 55, and six fixtures had a diameter of 3.25, 3.7, 3.75, 4.1, 4.7, and 4.8 mm, respectively. Twenty-eight, 145, 5, 217, 8, 141, and 12 implants hade a length of 8, 10, 11, 11.5, 12, 13, and 14 mm, respectively. The implants were inserted to replace 136 (24.5%) incisors, 80 (14.4%) cuspids, 198 (35.6%) premolars, and 142 (25.5%) molars. Results: No implants were lost (i.e., SRV = 100%). Among the studied variables, only those for the jaws were statistically significant, with a better outcome for implants inserted in the maxilla ( P = 0.017). Conclusions: ZDIs are reliable devices to be used in implantology, althougth a higher marginal bone loss has to be expected when these implants are inserted in mandible.

Introduction: Reduction of the visits for fabricating complete dentures are welcomed by both dentists and patients and this might be an aspect of the new changes in prosthodontic treatment according to the suggested new methods. Clinical Innovation: Complete dentures fabricated by the technique described in this report reduce processing time, cost and efforts since the technique does not require the use of gypsum materials, metal flasks or other related materials to obtain a mold for packing the heat cured acrylic resin as might be needed with the conventional method. This method requires only an appropriate volume of silicone impression material to provide the required mold and a heat pressure machine for processing and polymerization of the heat-cured acrylic resin. Although this technique might be difficult to be applicable by all dentist but it could be consider an advisable method. Discussion: Because the record base in this technique is made of heat cured resin, it provides a reliable denture base with better retention and stability and it overcomes the shortcomings that may be faced during registration of vertical dimension. This technique meets the basic requirements for a successful complete denture which is well tolerated by the patient′s mouth.

Background: Oral candidiasis is a common opportunistic infection in diabetic patients. Presence of denture in the oral cavity of diabetic patients can promote Candida colonization and results in the higher incidence of oral and systemic candidiasis. The general purpose of the present study was to evaluate and compare Candida colonization in denture of diabetic patients and non-diabetic control group. Methods: In current case-control study, samples for mycological examinations were collected from the palatal impression surface of maxillary dentures from 92 edentulous patients including 46 dia-betic and 46 non-diabetic denture wearers. All samples were cultured directly on sabouraud agar me-dium and isolated colonies were counted and identified based on specific tests. Data were statistically analyzed using Mann-Whitney and Spearman correlation tests. Results: The higher density of isolated colonies was seen in diabetic group in compare with control group (P = 0.0001). There was a statistically significant correlation between the blood glucose level (P = 0.0001) and the duration of denture usage (P = 0.022) with the colonization of Candida on den-ture of diabetic patients. C. albicans was the most common isolated Candida species in both groups, though diabetic patients with dentures had more non-albicans Candida isolated from their dentures compared to non-diabetic patients. Conclusions: Mycological findings from the present study revealed that diabetes mellitus can in-crease colonization of Candida in denture and mouth. By elimination of local and systemic factors in diabetic patients and improving their oral health care, Candida colonization and the risk of oral and systemic candidiasis will be decreased.

Our aim is to report an application of a prefabricated light-polymerizing plastic pattern to construction of removable partial denture framework without the use of a refractory cast. A plastic pattern for the lingual bar was adapted on the master cast of a mandibular Kennedy class I partially edentulous patient. The pattern was polymerized in a light chamber. Cobalt-chromium wires were employed to minimize the potential distortion of the plastic framework. The framework was carefully removed from the master cast and invested with phosphate-bonded investment for the subsequent casting procedures. A retentive clasp was constructed using 19-gauge wrought wire and was welded to the framework by means of laser welding machine. An excellent fit of the framework in the patient′s mouth was observed in the try-in and the insertion of the denture. The result suggests that this method minimizes laboratory cost and time for partial denture construction.

Background: Acrylic resin dentures are susceptible to fracture after clinical use, which is a problem of concern in prosthodontics. Impact failure outside the mouth and flexure fatigue failure in the mouth are two most important causes of fracture of denture base. Aim: This study evaluated the transverse deflection and transverse strength of four commercial brands of heat cure acrylic resin (Stellon, Acrylin-H, Trevalon and Trevalon-HI). Materials and Methods: An experimental design was adapted. Twenty-four rectangular strip specimens, six for each group, were prepared. Strips were finished on the edges and equally from the both the molded surfaces to make strips of specific dimensions. The tests were conducted mainly in accordance with the American Dental Association Specification no. 12/ISO: 1567-1981 (ISO: 6887-1986) for denture base polymer. The transverse deflection and transverse strength were measured by Instron testing machine. Intergroup differences were assessed using student "t" test. Results: The heat cure denture base material D (Trevalon "HI") had the minimum mean value of transverse deflection under different loads. Trevalon "HI" also had minimum value of mean transverse strength among different brands of acrylic resins. There was no statistically significant variation between Stellon, Acrylin-H and Trevalon, but variation was significantly higher with D (Trevalon "HI") vs. Stellon, Acrylin-H and Trevalon. Conclusion: The heat cure denture base material D (Trevalon "HI") was the strongest and C (Trevalon) was the weakest among all materials used in this study. The study showed that the deflection of various denture base resins (A to D) increases proportionately with the increase in load.
