This research attempts to study the social representations underlying health and care social innovations (HCSI) implemented in Wallonia, Belgium to shift ageing policies and management towards the ageing in place paradigm. A panel of 34 experts was interviewed to understand their representations using a Delphi‐based methodology. The data were processed using thematic content analysis. The core of social representations of health and care social innovations was related to five key dimensions: D1, responding to unmet or emerging health and care needs; D2, defining (new) targets and beneficiaries of HCSI; D3, disrupting care practices; D4, mobilising a network of key actors; and D5, encouraging political recognition of HCSI to favour its viability and sustainability. Local stakeholders' social representations tended to recognise only the goal‐oriented dimensions in innovations and ignore process‐oriented aspects. The blind spots for workers' participation and empowerment may jeopardise their working conditions, causing a cascade effect on the quality of services and the care relationship. This affected how health and care organisations responded to innovation and might also compromise the long‐term sustainability of ageing in place practices in Wallonia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses some relations between forms of production organization and the dynamics of the space economy in contemporary capitalism. The locational meaning of certain deeply rooted changes that are currently occurring in the industrial systems of North America and western Europe are elucidated. The old hegemonic regime of Fordist accumulation has progressively been giving way to a new regime of flexible accumulation. At the core of all capitalist economic activity lies the institution of commodity production with its overarching logic of accumulation. No regime of accumulation can function over the long run without encountering diverse crises and tensions, many of which may threaten its very existence. The new regime of flexible accumulation is founded pre-eminently on three major ensembles of industrial sectors. First, revivified artisanal and design-intensive industries producing outputs largely but not exclusively for final consumption, second, various sorts of high technology industries and their associated phalanxes of input suppliers and dependent subcontractors, and third, service functions, and most especially business services.

The article discusses studies of the problems of political militancy in France during the Fifth Republic. Militancy is studied from the analytical standpoint of the nature and structure of the French Communist Party, which may be defined as a minority counter-society where the different roles played by the militants comply with the different functions necessary for the existence and continuity of the party. It cites the classification of autobiographies by militants. Thoughts on what militancy should be in a new type of society have been encouraged by the rise of the self-government theme.

Today French academic studies of government are dominated by a particular form of public policy analysis which cannot be explained using literal translations. Instead this article endeavours to explain the nature of French research carried out in this vein by tracing its development over the last thirty years and focusing in particular upon the role of conflict within political science and sociology. Despite the considerable strengths of public policy analysis, however, doubts have recently emerged as to its capacity to adapt to the theoretical and empirical challenges raised by contemporary politics.
