Passivating contactsin heterojunction (HJ) solar cells have shown great potential in reducing recombination losses, and thereby achieving high power conversion efficiencies in photovoltaic devices. In this direction, carbon nanomaterials have emerged as a promising option for carbon/silicon (C/Si) HJsolar cells due to their tunable band structure, wide spectral absorption, high carrier mobility, and properties such as multiple exciton generation. However, the current limitations in efficiency and active area have hindered the industrialization of these devices. In this review, they examine the progress made in overcoming these constraints and discuss the prospect of achieving high power conversion efficiency (PCE) C/Si HJ devices. A C/Si HJ solar cell is also designed by introducing an innovative interface passivation strategy to further boost the PCE and accelerate the large area preparationof C/Si devices. The physical principle, device design scheme, and performanceoptimization approaches of this passivated C/Si HJ cells are discussed. Additionally, they outline potential future pathways and directions for C/Si HJ devices, including a reduction in their cost to manufacture and their incorporation intotandem solar cells. Cellular senescence and the senescence‐associated secretory phenotype (SASP) contribute to age‐related arterial dysfunction, in part, by promoting oxidative stress and inflammation, which reduce the bioavailability of the vasodilatory molecule nitric oxide (NO). In the present study, we assessed the efficacy of fisetin, a natural compound, as a senolytic to reduce vascular cell senescence and SASP factors and improve arterial function in old mice. We found that fisetin decreased cellular senescence in human endothelial cell culture. In old mice, vascular cell senescence and SASP‐related inflammation were lower 1 week after the final dose of oral intermittent (1 week on—2 weeks off—1 weeks on dosing) fisetin supplementation. Old fisetin‐supplemented mice had higher endothelial function. Leveraging old p16‐3MR mice, a transgenic model allowing genetic clearance of p16INK4A‐positive senescent cells, we found that ex vivo removal of senescent cells from arteries isolated from vehicle‐ but not fisetin‐treated mice increased endothelium‐dependent dilation, demonstrating that fisetin improved endothelial function through senolysis. Enhanced endothelial function with fisetin was mediated by increased NO bioavailability and reduced cellular‐ and mitochondrial‐related oxidative stress. Arterial stiffness was lower in fisetin‐treated mice. Ex vivo genetic senolysis in aorta rings from p16‐3MR mice did not further reduce mechanical wall stiffness in fisetin‐treated mice, demonstrating lower arterial stiffness after fisetin was due to senolysis. Lower arterial stiffness with fisetin was accompanied by favorable arterial wall remodeling. Ribosomally synthesized and post‐translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) are a structurally diverse class of natural products with a distinct biosynthetic logic, the enzymatic modification of genetically encoded precursor peptides. Although their structural and biosynthetic diversity remains largely underexplored, the identification of novel subclasses with unique structural motifs and biosynthetic pathways is challenging. Here, it is reported that peptide/protein L‐aspartyl O‐methyltransferases (PAMTs) present in several RiPP subclasses are highly homologous. Importantly, it is discovered that the apparent evolutionary transmission of the PAMT gene to unrelated RiPP subclasses can serve as a basis to identify a novel RiPP subclass. Biochemical and structural analyses suggest that homologous PAMTs convert aspartate to isoaspartate via aspartyl‐O‐methyl ester and aspartimide intermediates, and often require cyclic or hairpin‐like structures for modification. By conducting homology‐based bioinformatic analysis of PAMTs, over 2,800 biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) are identified for known RiPP subclasses in which PAMTs install a secondary modification, and over 1,500 BGCs where PAMTs function as a primary modification enzyme, thereby defining a new RiPP subclass, named pamtides. The results suggest that the genome mining of proteins with secondary biosynthetic roles can be an effective strategy for discovering novel biosynthetic pathways of RiPPs through the principle of "guilt by association". As the demand for diverse nanostructures in physical/chemical devices continues to rise, the development of nanotransfer printing (nTP) technology is receiving significant attention due to its exceptional throughput and ease of use. Over the past decade, researchers have attempted to enhance the diversity of materials and substrates used in transfer processes as well as to improve the resolution, reliability, and scalability of nTP. Recent research on nTP has made continuous progress, particularly using the control of the interfacial adhesion force between the donor mold, target material, and receiver substrate, and numerous practical nTP methods with niche applications have been demonstrated. This review article offers a comprehensive analysis of the chronological advancements in nTP technology and categorizes recent strategies targeted for high‐yield and versatile printing based on controlling the relative adhesion force depending on interfacial layers. In detail, the advantages and challenges of various nTP approaches are discussed based on their working mechanisms, and several promising solutions to improve morphological/material diversity are presented. Furthermore, this review provides a summary of potential applications of nanostructured devices, along with perspectives on the outlook and remaining challenges, which are expected to facilitate the continued progress of nTP technology and to inspire future innovations. Insulin resistance, oxidative stress, hyperlipidemia, and inflammation play main roles in the development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Some studies have reported that hesperidin can reduce hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia by inhibiting inflammatory pathways. In the current study, our purpose was to evaluate whether it can influence the primary parameters in NAFLD and improve the treatment effectiveness for future trials. Various studies have found that hesperidin involves multiple signaling pathways such as cell proliferation, lipid and glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, oxidative stress, and inflammation, which can potentially affect NAFLD development and prognosis. Recent findings indicate that hesperidin also regulates key enzymes and may affect the severity of liver fibrosis. Hesperidin inhibits reactive oxygen species production that potentially interferes with the activation of transcription factors like nuclear factor‐κB. Appropriate adherence to hesperidin may be a promising approach to modulate inflammatory pathways, metabolic indices, hepatic steatosis, and liver injury. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nanotransfer printing (nTP) is one of the most promising nanopatterning methods given that it can be used to produce nano-to-micro patterns effectively with functionalities for electronic device applications. However, the nTP process is hindered by several critical obstacles, such as sub-20 nm mold technology, reliable large-area replication, and uniform transfer-printing of functional materials. Here, for the first time, a dual nanopatterning process is demonstrated that creates periodic sub-20 nm structures on the eight-inch wafer by the transfer-printing of patterned ultra-thin (<50 nm) block copolymer (BCP) film onto desired substrates. This study shows how to transfer self-assembled BCP patterns from the Si mold onto rigid and/or flexible substrates through a nanopatterning method of thermally assisted nTP (T-nTP) and directed self-assembly (DSA) of Si-containing BCPs. In particular, the successful microscale patternization of well-ordered sub-20 nm SiOx patterns is systematically presented by controlling the self-assembly conditions of BCP and printing temperature. In addition, various complex pattern geometries of nano-in-micro structures are displayed over a large patterning area by T-nTP, such as angular line, wave line, ring, dot-in-hole, and dot-in-honeycomb structures. Effective cleavage and functionalization of C(OH)−C bonds is of great importance for the production of value‐added chemicals from renewable biomass resources such as carbohydrates, lignin and their derivatives. The efficiency and selectivity of oxidative cleavage of C(OH)−C bonds are hindered by their inert nature and various side reactions associated with the hydroxyl group. The oxidative conversion of secondary alcohols to produce aldehydes is particularly challenging because the generated aldehydes tend to be over‐oxidized to acids or the other side products. Noble‐metal based catalysts are necessary to get satisfactory aldehyde yields. Herein, for the first time, the efficient aerobic oxidative conversion of secondary aromatic alcohols into aromatic aldehydes is reported using non‐noble metal catalysts and environmentally benign oxygen, without any additional base. It was found that CuI−1,10‐phenanthroline (Cu−phen) complex showed outstanding performance for the reactions. The C(OH)−C bonds of a diverse array of aromatic secondary alcohols were effectively cleaved and functionalized, selectively affording aldehydes with excellent yields. Detailed mechanism study revealed a radical mediated pathway for the oxidative reaction. The development of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with low recombination losses at low processing temperatures is an area of growing research interest as it enables compatibility with roll‐to‐roll processing on flexible substrates as well as with tandem solar cells. The inverted or p–i–n device architecture has emerged as the most promising PSC configuration due to the possibility of using low‐temperature processable organic hole‐transport layers and more recently, self‐assembled monolayers such as [4‐(3,6‐dimethyl‐9H‐carbazol‐9‐yl)butyl]phosphonic acid (Me‐4PACz). However, devices incorporating these interlayers suffer from poor wettability of the precursor leading to pin hole formation and poor device yield. Herein, the use of alumina nanoparticles (Al2O3 nanoparticles (NPs)) for pinning the perovskite precursor on Me‐4PACz is demonstrated, thereby improving the device yield. While similar wettability enhancements can also be achieved by using poly[(9,9‐bis(3′‐((N,N‐dimethyl)‐N‐ethylammonium)‐propyl)‐2,7‐fluorene)‐alt‐2,7‐(9,9‐dioctylfluorene)]dibromide (PFN‐Br), a widely employed surface modifier, the incorporation of Al2O3 NPs results in significantly enhanced Shockley–Read–Hall recombination lifetimes exceeding 3 μs, which is higher than those on films coated directly on Me‐4PACz and on PFN‐Br‐modified Me‐4PACz. This translates to a champion power conversion efficiency of 19.9% for PSCs fabricated on Me‐4PACz modified with Al2O3, which is a ≈20% improvement compared to the champion device fabricated on PFN‐Br‐modified Me‐4PACz. Background: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is a cornerstone therapy for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). The variations in nonlinear heart rate variability (HRV) between patients with and without recurrences remain unclear. We aimed to characterize the nonlinear HRV before and after PVI in patients with and without recurrence. Methods: Twenty‐five drug‐refractory PAF patients (56.0 ± 9.1 years old, 20 males) who received PVI were enrolled. Holter electrocardiography were performed before, 1–3, and 6–12 months after PVI. After 8.2 ± 2.5 months of follow‐ups after PVI, patients were divided into two groups: the recurrence (n = 8) and non‐recurrence (n = 17) groups. Linear and nonlinear HRV variables were analyzed, including the Poincaré Plot analysis and the Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA). Results: The non‐recurrence group, but not the recurrence group, had decreased high‐frequency component (HF), the root mean square of successive RR interval differences (RMSSD), and the Poincaré Plot index SD1 1–3 months after PVI and increased DFAslope2 6–12 months after PVI. The non‐recurrence group's LF/HF ratio and DFAslope1 decreased significantly 1–3 and 6–12 months after PVI, respectively, whereas there was no significant change in the recurrence group after PVI. Conclusions: Significantly reduced vagal tone 1–3 months after PVI, increased long‐term fractal complexity 6–12 months after PVI, and decreased sympathetic tone as well as short‐term fractal complexity 1–3 and 6–12 months after PVI led to a better AF‐free survival after PVI. Background: The aim of this study was to describe clinical and imaging features of atlantoaxial subluxation (AAS) and the associated risk factors in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: We conducted a retrospective and comparative study including 51 RA patients with AAS and 51 RA patients without AAS. Atlantoaxial subluxation was defined by the presence of an anterior C1C2 diastasis on the cervical spine radiograph in hyperflexion and/or an anterior, posterior, lateral or rotatory C1C2 dislocation on MRI with/without inflammatory signal. Results: In G1, clinical presentations revealing AAS were mainly neck pain (68.7%) and neck stiffness (29.8%). MRI revealed: diastasis C1C2 (92.5%), periodontoid pannus (92.5%), odontoid erosion (23.5%), vertical subluxation (9.8%) and spinal cord involvement (7.8%). A collar immobilisation and corticosteroid boluses were indicated in 86.3% and 47.1% of cases. C1‐C2arthrodesis was performed in 15.4% of cases. Atlantoaxial subluxation was significantly associated with: age at disease onset (p = 0.009), history of joint surgery (p = 0.012), disease duration (p = 0.001), rheumatoid factor (p = 0.01), anti‐cyclic citrullinated peptide (p = 0.02), erosive radiographic status (p < 0.005), coxitis (p < 0.001), osteoporosis (p = 0.012), extra‐articular manifestations (p < 0.001), and high disease activity (p = 0.001). Multivariate analysis identified RA duration (p < 0.001, OR = 1.022 CI[1.01–1.034]) and erosive radiographic status (p = 0.01, OR = 21.236 CI[2.05–219.44]) as predictive factors of AAS. Conclusion: Our study showed that longer disease duration and joint destruction are the major predictive factors of AAS. Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is the major exogenous agent that disturbs tissue homeostasis and hastens the onset of age‐related phenotypes (photoaging). Exposure to UV‐B radiation promotes apoptosis in human skin cells via induction of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS)‐mediated Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) stress by activating the PERK‐eIF2α‐CHOP pathway, which plays a major role in exacerbating skin photoaging. Alleviating the production of ROS and boosting the antioxidant capacity of cells is the foremost therapeutic strategy to avert the repercussions of ultraviolet radiation exposure. In this study, we investigated the role of 3‐(1′‐methyltetrahydropyridinyl)‐2,4‐6‐trihydroxy acetophenone (IIIM‐8) in thwarting the UV‐B‐induced photoaging. We observed that IIIM‐8 ameliorates UV‐B‐induced oxidative stress, ER stress, Loss of Mitochondrial membrane potential, MAPK activation and Inflammation in irradiated skin cells. Ultraviolet radiation‐related damage to fibroblasts within the dermis leads to collagen degradation‐the hallmark of photoaging. IIIM‐8 substantially restored the synthesis of collagen and prevented its degradation via the downregulation of matrix metalloproteinases. Topical application of IIIM‐8 prevented BALB/c mice skin from UV‐B‐induced leukocyte infiltration, epidermal thickening and disruption of Extracellular matrix components. Implying that IIIM‐8 has a strong photoprotective property and has potential to be developed as a topical therapeutic/cosmeceutical agent against UV‐B‐induced photoaging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cholesterol sulfate (CS) is an activator of retinoic acid‐related orphan receptor α (RORα). CS treatment or RORα overexpression attenuates osteoclastogenesis in a collagen‐induced arthritis mouse model. However, the mechanism by which CS and RORα regulate osteoclast differentiation remains largely unknown. Thus, we aimed to investigate the role of CS and RORα in osteoclastogenesis and their underlying mechanism. CS inhibited osteoclast differentiation, but RORα deficiency did not affect osteoclast differentiation and CS‐mediated inhibition of osteoclastogenesis. CS enhanced adenosine monophosphate‐activated protein kinase (AMPK) phosphorylation and sirtuin1 (Sirt1) activity, leading to nuclear factor‐κB (NF‐κB) inhibition by decreasing acetylation at Lys310 of p65. The NF‐κB inhibition was restored by AMPK inhibitor, but the effects of CS on AMPK and NF‐κB were not altered by RORα deficiency. CS also induced osteoclast apoptosis, which may be due to sustained AMPK activation and consequent NF‐κB inhibition, and the effects of CS were significantly reversed by interleukin‐1β treatment. Collectively, these results indicate that CS inhibits osteoclast differentiation and survival by suppressing NF‐κB via the AMPK–Sirt1 axis in a RORα‐independent manner. Furthermore, CS protects against bone destruction in lipopolysaccharide‐ and ovariectomy‐mediated bone loss mouse models, suggesting that CS is a useful therapeutic candidate for treating inflammation‐induced bone diseases and postmenopausal osteoporosis. In males, the factors that decrease limb muscle mass and strength in response to androgen deprivation are largely unknown. Sirtuin1 (SIRT1) protein levels are lower in the limb muscle of male mice subjected to androgen deprivation. The present study aimed to assess whether SIRT1 induction preserved limb muscle mass and force production in response to androgen deprivation. Physically mature male mice containing an inducible muscle‐specific SIRT1 transgene were subjected to a sham or castration surgery and compared to sham and castrated male mice where the SIRT1 transgene was not induced. SIRT1 induction partially preserved whole‐body lean mass, tibialis anterior (TA) mass and triceps surae muscle mass in response to castration. Further analysis of the TA muscle showed that muscle‐specific SIRT1 induction partially preserved limb muscle soluble protein content and fibre cross‐sectional area. Unilateral AAV9‐mediated SIRT1 induction in the TA muscle showed that SIRT1 partially preserved mass by acting directly in the muscle. Despite those positive outcomes to limb muscle morphology, muscle‐specific SIRT1 induction did not preserve the force generating capacity of the TA or triceps surae muscles. Interestingly, SIRT1 induction in females did not alter limb muscle mass or limb muscle strength even though females have naturally low androgen levels. SIRT1 also did not alter the androgen‐mediated increase in limb muscle mass or strength in females. In all, these data suggest that decreases in SIRT1 protein in the limb muscle of males may partially contribute to the loss of limb muscle mass in response to androgen deprivation. Metal oxide (MO) charge transport layers (CTLs) are widely used for fabricating highly efficient and stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs) due to their superior stability, material and preparation cost, light transmission, and charge selection. However, the complex surface states, unbalanced carrier mobility, and variable energy band structure determined by MOs can lead to additional interfacial charge recombination and transport losses within the device, which limit further improvements in device performance. Extensive research has been conducted to address these challenges. In this review, an overview of current popular MO‐CTLs and their preparation methods for PSCs are provided. Interface regulation strategies, such as passivating interface defects, modulating interface energy level alignment, and improving interface contact are also discussed, which can enhance the performance of PSCs. Meanwhile, the commonly used dopants and doping strategies for optimizing the charge transport properties of CTLs are also discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wide‐bandgap perovskite solar cells (WBG‐PSCs), when partnered with Si bottom cells in tandem configuration, can provide efficiencies up to 44%; yet, the development of stable, efficient, and scalable WBG‐PSCs is required. Here, the utility of the hybrid evaporation‐solution method (HESM) is investigated to meet these demanding requirements via its unique advantages including ease of control and reproducibility. A PbI2/CsBr layer is co‐evaporated followed by coating of organic‐halide solutions in a green solvent. Bandgaps between 1.55–1.67 eV are systematically screened by varying CsBr and MABr content. Champion efficiencies of 21.06% and 20.35% in cells and 19.83% and 18.73% in mini‐modules (16 cm2) for perovskites with 1.64 and 1.67 eV bandgaps are achieved, respectively. Additionally, 18.51%‐efficient semi‐transparent WBG‐PSCs are implemented in 4T perovskite/bifacial silicon configuration, reaching a projected power output of 30.61 mW cm−2 based on PD IEC TS 60904‐1‐2 (BiFi200) protocol. Despite similar bandgaps achieved by incorporating Br via MABr solution and/or CsBr evaporation, PSCs having a perovskite layer without MABr addition show significantly higher thermal and moisture stability. This study proves scalable, high‐performance, and stable WBG‐PSCs are enabled by HESM, hence their use in tandems and in emerging applications such as indoor photovoltaics are now within reach. To investigate the cause for the low tensile plasticity in normal direction of high‐strength low‐alloy steel thick plate, tensile fracture observation, inclusion statistic, and microstructure observation of thick plate and solidification structure observation of continuous casting slab are carried out. The experimental results reveal that many MnS inclusions are only distributed on the platform of the tensile fracture and they only appear in the center of thick plate together with martensite and severe macrosegregation of elements C and Mn. It is concluded that the aggregated large‐sized MnS inclusions are the direct cause for reducing the tensile plasticity. Stress concentration on a single MnS inclusion during tensile testing can occur and cause a limited brittle fracture area. Aggregation of MnS inclusions creates a large brittle fracture area, which significantly reduces the tensile plasticity. The root cause of the aggregation of MnS inclusions is the well‐developed columnar crystals of continuous casting slab. The well‐developed columnar crystals push high concentration of solutes into the residual liquid‐phase zone in the center of continuous casting slab and create severe central macrosegregation which eventually lead to the appearance of aggregated large‐sized MnS inclusions with martensite in the center of thick plate. Perovskites have been one of the most promising futures of solar‐cell technology due to their revolutionary impact on device performance. Recently, perovskite solar cell (PSC) has shown remarkable achievement in power conversion efficiency of 26.1% in 2022 by the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology. However, such a breakthrough technology has limitations for the market‐up due to inherent instability affected by heat, light, and moisture, which are severe issues for overcoming the barrier to commercialization. Several important outcomes of the experimental and theoretical analysis of the fundamental of PSCs are begun with in this review. The main aim of this article is to gain insight into the several processing approaches such as the interfacial approach, device structure approach, deposition method–based approach, compositional approach, bandgap approach, and dimensional approach. Interestingly, these approaches govern the charge‐transport process, recombination, charge‐transfer resistance, carrier injection/collection of the electrodes, etc. Finally, future perspectives of the combined understanding of various aspects are discussed to further enhance the device's performance. Conformal deposition of perovskite films on textured silicon surfaces using a dry process is crucial for producing high‐performance perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells. Herein, a radio frequency magnetron sputtering process is used with a PbI2 target to deposit precursor films. Iodination, thermal annealing, and dimethyl sulfoxide treatment are employed as posttreatment processes to improve the stoichiometry, crystallinity, and surface morphology of the PbI2 precursor. The precursor films are converted into perovskite using direct contact conversion process, and the interfacial and bulk properties are enhanced by methylamine vapor annealing to fabricate perovskite solar cells with a power conversion efficiency of 12.2%. Also, 18.3% efficiency is confirmed at a wider voltage sweep range, which suggests that further efficiency improvement is possible by removing defects inside the perovskite. Finally, uniform perovskite films are conformally deposited on a 25 cm2 textured silicon surface. With such high‐efficiency potential and conformality, the method of sputtering PbI2 can open a new way to fabricate perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The phase transformation model is the subject of this article capable of evaluating the hardenability of various bainitic steels. The objective is to provide a tool, which will help to design the chemical composition of steels with enhanced bainitic hardenability. Three general indexes, which are based on the relation between bainite volume fraction and cooling rate, and which characterize the hardenability, are proposed. Calculations of these hardenability indexes are presented for low‐carbon steels with different chemical compositions. Correlation between the chemistry and the hardenability factors is evaluated. Following this, an industrial process of cooling of wire rods is simulated for the steel with hardenability indexes adjusted to the cooling capabilities of Stelmor system. Osteoclasts are the cells responsible for the bone resorption process during bone remodeling. In a healthy situation, this process results from an equilibrium between new matrix formation by osteoblast and matrix resorption by osteoclast. Osteoporosis (OP) is a systemic bone disease characterized by a decreased bone mass density and alterations in bone microarchitecture, increasing fracture predisposition. Despite the variety of available therapies for OP management there is a growing gap in its treatment associated to the low patients' adherence owing to concerns related with long‐term efficacy or safety. This makes the development of new and safe treatments necessary. Among the newly developed strategies, the use of synthetic and natural nanoparticles to modulate osteoclasts differentiation, activity, apoptosis or crosstalk with osteoblasts have arisen. Synthetic nanoparticles exert their therapeutic effect either by loading antiresorptive drugs or including molecules for osteoclasts gene regulation. Moreover, this control over osteoclasts can be improved by their targeting to bone extracellular matrix or osteoclast membranes. Furthermore, natural nanoparticles, also known as extracellular vesicles, have been identified to play a key role in bone homeostasis. Consequently, these systems have been widely studied to control osteoblasts and osteoclasts under variable environments. Additionally, the ability to bioengineer extracellular vesicles has allowed to obtain biomimetic systems with desirable characteristics as drug carriers for osteoclasts. The analyzed information reveals the possibility of modulating osteoclasts by different mechanisms through nanoparticles decreasing bone resorption. These findings suggest that controlling osteoclast activity using nanoparticles has the potential to improve osteoporosis management. With an ultimate goal of characterizing teachers' movement toward understanding the epistemic complexity of generative learning environments, this study refers to adaptive teaching expertise (AdTex) as a developmental teaching capacity observable through a teacher's ability to utilize various resources to address the epistemic complexity of knowledge generation practices. The analysis and discussions centered on how teachers develop and utilize epistemic orientation and understandings of epistemic tools for adaptive teaching, making this study distinct from previous research on AdTex. In particular, this study shows a new way to create systematic profiles of AdTex based on the multiple qualitative data sources, including vignettes, interviews, and reflections collected through a multiple‐case study with 24 teachers. The qualitative profile analysis suggests that the development of epistemic resources is closely related to teachers' attention to student ideas, student agency, and a balance between flexibility and productivity regardless of context. Peptides have shown increasing advantages and significant clinical value in drug discovery and development. With the development of high‐throughput technologies and artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) methods for discovering new lead peptides have been expanded and incorporated into rational drug design. Predictions of peptide–protein interactions (PepPIs) and protein–protein interactions (PPIs) are both opportunities and challenges in computational biology, which will help to better understand the mechanisms of disease and provide the impetus for the discovery of lead peptides. This paper comprehensively reviews computational models for PepPI and PPI predictions. It begins with an introduction of various databases of peptide ligands and target proteins. Then it discusses data formats and feature representations for proteins and peptides. Furthermore, classical ML methods and emerging deep learning (DL) methods that can be used to train prediction models of PepPI and PPI are classified into four categories, and their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed. To assess the relative performance of different models, different validation protocols and evaluation indexes are discussed. The goal of this review is to help researchers quickly get started to develop computational frameworks using these integrated resources and eventually promote the discovery of lead peptides. Silicon (Si) is a low‐cost, stable photovoltaic market contributor which is approaching its single‐junction theoretical efficiency limit. To further elevate the efficiency of crystalline Si (c‐Si) afterward, Si solar cells (SCs) need a proper top cell absorber in Si tandem SCs. Herein, the top cell absorber is studied by evaluating their current state of the art, the existing challenges, and possible future solutions which can enhance their efficiency. The progress of perovskite/Si tandem SC both for monolithic and four terminals is exceptional but still many challenges limit their commercialization. In view of these challenges, the relative's solutions are prescribed in detail to make possible their realization. III–V semiconductors being mature candidates still face a growth/fabrication problem, which makes them a costly option for III–V/Si tandem SCs. Effective growth strategies along with technical solutions are discussed in detail. Emerging chalcogenides are considered the future of tandem technology. Recent developments in the chalcogenides/Si tandem SC are highlighted and the possible options are presented. In the end, a short note is given on the near future tandem materials for Si tandem SCs. Mechanosensing, the active responses of cells to the mechanics on multiple scales, plays an indispensable role in regulating cell behaviors and determining the fate of biological entities such as tissues and organs. Here, I aim to give a pedagogical illustration of the fundamental concepts of soft matter physics that aid in understanding biomechanical phenomena from the scale of tissues to proteins. Examples of up‐to‐date research are introduced to elaborate these concepts. Background: The objective of the study was to assess clinical and imaging features of rheumatoid arthritis associated with atlantoaxial dislocation (RA‐AAD) in comparison to RA without AAD (RA‐C) and to identify the associated factors to AAD. Methods: This was a retrospective comparative study including RA patients over 18 years old. The control group of RA‐C was matched according to age (±2 years), gender, and RA duration (±2 years). General data, RA characteristics, AAD features, and treatment modalities were recorded. Statistical analysis was performed to determine the predictive factors of AAD. Results: A total of 120 patients were included (78 RA‐AAD and 42 RA‐C); sex‐ratio was 0.15. Mean age was 58.55 ± 9.14 years (RA‐AAD) versus 60.43 ± 10.78 years (RA‐C), (p = 0.31). Regarding RA features, RA‐AAD patients have significantly a higher rheumatoid factor (RF) rate (p = 0.002), extra‐articular manifestations (p = 0.009) especially osteoporosis (p < 10−3), eye involvement (p = 0.02), coxitis (p < 0.0001), Disease Activity Score (DAS28) (p < 10−3), and global health status scale (HAQ) (p = 0.003). X‐ray analysis showed pathologic PADI (<14 mm) in 51.6% of cases. The AADI was pathological (>3 mm) in 100% of patients with the following distribution: 67.9% between (3–6 mm) and 23.3% between (6–9 mm). Atlantoaxial dislocation (AAD) was presumed anterior (85.4%), lateral (7.3%) and rotatory (7.3%). The abnormalities observed on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were: C1–C2 synovitis (61%), confirmed AAD (34.1%) and basilar impression (4.9%). AAD diagnosed by cervical MRI was anterior in 89.8% of cases, lateral (5.3%) and with a double ascending and anterior component in 4.9% of cases. An immobilisation with a type C4 cervical collar was indicated for all the patients and five of them had boluses of corticosteroid (methylprednisolone 1 g/day) for three consecutive days. C1–C2 arthrodesis by trans‐articular screwing was performed in four patients with neurological signs or pathological measurements on cervical MRI. The outcome was favourable in 100% of cases after surgical treatment with improvement in neck pain and neurological condition within a mean decline of 4 ± 3 years [1–7]. Multivariate analysis identified coxitis, osteoporosis, high baseline DAS28, and a high rate of RF positivity as predictive factors of AAD. Conclusion: Our results confirmed that predictive factors of AAD were related to higher disease activity and structural damage. The study of organic semiconductor single crystal (OSSC) arrays has recently attracted considerable interest given their potential applications in flexible displays, smart wearable devices, biochemical sensors, etc. Patterning of OSSCs is the prerequisite for the realization of organic integrated circuits. Patterned OSSCs can not only decrease the crosstalk between adjacent organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs), but also can be conveniently integrated with other device elements which facilitate circuits application. Tremendous efforts have been devoted in the controllable preparation of OSSC arrays, and great progress has been achieved. In this review, the general strategies for patterning OSSCs are summarized, along with the discussion of the advantages and limitations of different patterning methods. Given the identical thickness of monolayer molecular crystals (MMCs) which is beneficial to achieve super uniformity of OSSC arrays and devices, patterning of MMCs is also emphasized. Then, OFET performance is summarized with comparison of the mobility and coefficient of variation based on the OSSC arrays prepared by different methods. Furthermore, advances of OSSC array‐based circuits and flexible devices of different functions are highlighted. Finally, the challenges that need to be tackled in the future are presented. The diterpene kirenol has notable biological activity. In this study, molecular docking software (Discovery Studio) was adopted to investigate the anti‐inflammatory and antioxidant properties of kirenol. Twenty‐nine kirenol derivatives were synthesized based on the molecular docking outcomes. Cytotoxicity analyses of the kirenol derivatives were performed in Raw264.7 macrophages using the CCK‐8 assay, and nitric oxide (NO) concentrations were determined using the Griess assay. The DCFH‐DA approach identified the general pattern of reactive oxygen species (ROS) fluctuations. The mitochondrial mass and morphology were detected using the Mito‐Tracker Red fluorescent probe. Preliminary bioassay tests indicated that the concentration of NO was substantially reduced by certain derivatives. Moreover, these derivatives inhibited LPS‐induced ROS generation, and one of them exhibited a further reducing ROS generation and pro‐inflammatory response by suppressing excessive mitochondrial fission. Immobilization leads to muscle wasting and insulin resistance, particularly during ageing. It has been suggested that undercarboxylated osteocalcin (ucOC) improves muscle mass and glucose metabolism. Bisphosphonates, an anti‐osteoporosis treatment, might protect muscle wasting independent of ucOC. We hypothesize that the combination of ucOC and ibandronate (IBN) treatments has superior protective effects against immobilization‐induced muscle wasting and insulin resistance than either treatment alone. C57BL/6J mice were hindlimb‐immobilized for two weeks, with injections of vehicle, ucOC (90 ng/g daily) and/or IBN (2 μg/g weekly). Insulin/oral glucose tolerance tests (ITT/OGTT) were performed. Immediately after immobilization, muscles (extensor digitorum longus (EDL), soleus, tibialis anterior, gastrocnemius and quadriceps) were isolated and measured for muscle mass. Insulin‐stimulated glucose uptake (EDL and soleus) was examined. Phosphorylation/expression of proteins in anabolic/catabolic pathways were examined in quadriceps. Primary human myotubes derived from older adult muscle biopsies were treated with ucOC and/or IBN, then signalling proteins were analysed. Combined treatment, but not individual treatments, significantly increased the muscle weight/body weight ratio in immobilized soleus (31.7%; P = 0.013) and quadriceps (20.0%; P = 0.0008) muscles, concomitant with elevated p‐Akt (S473)/Akt ratio (P = 0.0047). Combined treatment also enhanced whole‐body glucose tolerance (16.6%; P = 0.0011). In human myotubes, combined treatment stimulated greater activation of ERK1/2 (P = 0.0067 and 0.0072) and mTOR (P = 0.036), and led to a lesser expression of Fbx32 (P = 0.049) and MuRF1 (P = 0.048) than individual treatments. These findings suggest a potential therapeutic role for the ucOC and bisphosphonates combination in protecting against muscle wasting induced by immobilization and ageing. Oils provide a considerable amount of energy to the swine diet, but they are prone to lipid oxidation if not properly preserved. Consumption of oxidized oils can adversely affect the animal organism and even the offspring. This study investigated the impact of oxidized soybean oil in the diets of sows from 107 days gestation to 21 days of lactation on the performance of sows and jejunum health of suckling piglets. Sixteen sows were randomly allocated into two groups: one group (n = 8) was fed with the fresh soybean oil (FSO) diet, and another group (n = 8) was treated with the oxidized soybean oil (OSO) diet. Dietary oxidized soybean oil does not affect sow performance. Antioxidant enzyme activity in the milk was reduced significantly in the OSO group, such as the superoxide dismutase (SOD), total antioxidant capacity (T‐AOC), and catalase (CAT) activities (p < 0.05). On Day 21, oxidized soybean oil increased tumor necrosis factor‐α (TNF‐α), interleukin 6 (IL‐6), and interleukin 8 (IL‐8) levels in sow milk and the concentrations of TNF‐α and IL‐8 cytokines in plasma (p < 0.05). Suckling piglets from sows fed on OSO showed a trend towards increased IL‐6 and TNF‐α in plasma (p < 0.1). The mRNA expression of interleukin 1β (IL‐1β) was augmented, whereas interleukin 10 (IL‐10) was decreased, and zonula occludens‐1 (ZO‐1) had a tendency to be down‐regulated in OSO treatment. This study revealed that the OSO of feed decreased the antioxidant capacity of milk, further contributing to the inflammatory response in the jejunum of suckling piglets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hypertension is the leading risk factor for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Aortic stiffness and sympathoexcitation are robust predictors of MACE. Combined high fructose and sodium intake increases arterial pressure, aortic stiffness, renin, and sympathetic nerve activity in male rats. We hypothesized that activation of the renin angiotensin system (RAS) and/or the sympathetic system mediates aortic stiffness in rats with fructose‐induced salt‐sensitive blood pressure. Male and female Sprague‐Dawley rats ingested 20% fructose or 20% glucose in drinking water with 0.4% NaCl chow for 1 week. Then, fructose‐fed rats were switched to 4% NaCl chow (Fru + HS); glucose‐fed rats remained on 0.4% NaCl chow (Glu + NS, controls for caloric intake). After 2 weeks, mean arterial pressure (MAP) and aortic pulsed wave velocity (PWV) were evaluated at baseline or after acute intravenous vehicle, clonidine, enalapril, losartan, or hydrochlorothiazide. Baseline global longitudinal strain (GLS) was also assessed. MAP and PWV were greater in male Fru + HS versus Glu + NS male rats (p < 0.05 and p < 0.001, respectively). PWV was similar between the female groups. Despite similarly reduced MAP after clonidine, PWV decreased in Fru + HS versus Glu + NS male rats (p < 0.01). Clonidine induced similar decreases in MAP and PWV in females on either diet. GLS was lower in Fru + HS versus Glu + NS male rats and either of the female groups. Thus, acute sympathoinhibition improved aortic compliance in male rats with fructose salt‐sensitive blood pressure. Female rats retained aortic compliance regardless of diet. Acute RAS inhibition exerted no significant effects. Male rats on fructose high salt diet displayed an early deficit in myocardial function. Taken together, these findings suggest that adult female rats are protected from the impact of fructose and high salt diet on blood pressure, aortic stiffness, and early left ventricular dysfunction compared with male rats. Many studies on the basis of cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) have focused on dynamic optical changes utilizing photochemical reactions raising helical pitch variations. However, the conventional dyes doped in CLC system often show reversible isomerization such as trans‐cis, E‐Z, and open‐close forms that hampers the fixation of desired color cues. Here, a cyanostilbene‐based reactive mesogen (CSRM) for phototunable and subsequently polymerizable smart CLC paints is newly designed and synthesized. The structural color of the CLC paint can be precisely manipulated in remote controllable manner by inducing a photochemical reaction of CSRM. Due to the irreversible isomerization behaviors of CSRM, the constructed periodic structures with different helical pitches are intactly fixed via in situ photopolymerization under 460 nm light. In addition, the combination of helical nanostructures and cyanostilbene luminophore produces a circularly polarized light emission. The dissymmetry factor of circularly polarized luminescence is dependent on the photoregulated helical nanostructures in CLC films. Metal‐oxide‐semiconductor‐based thin‐film transistors (TFTs) are exploited in display backplanes and X‐ray detectors fabricated by vacuum deposition and lithographic patterning. However, there is growing interest to use scalable printing technologies to lower the environmental impact and cost of processing. There have been substantial research efforts on oxide dielectric and semiconductor materials and their interfaces. Materials for the source/drain (S/D) contact electrodes and their interface to the semiconductor have received less attention, particularly concerning the usage of printing processes. Specific contact resistivity of oxide TFTs with print‐patterned S/D contacts can be 10−2 to 101 Ω cm2, significantly higher than vacuum‐deposited contacts around 10−5 to 10−3 Ω cm2. Problems at the semiconductor/S/D interface, such as large contact resistance, poor adhesion, or cross‐interface contact material migration, affect device characteristics causing hysteresis loops, kink or step‐like distortion, and threshold voltage shift. This work reviews advances in materials and fabrication methods of print‐patterned S/D electrodes for oxide TFTs. Differences in characterization methods among existing literature hamper comparing the performance of print‐patterned S/D contacts. Therefore, systematic and standardized measurements are proposed to assist identification of possible problems, which to some degree can then be mitigated by device fabrication strategies, facilitating well‐performing printed contact electrodes for metal‐oxide TFTs. Analysis of protein thermostability is vital in protein science to aid the understanding of evolutionary aspects of organic life as well as in protein engineering for modern day industrial applications. In the present study, supervised machine learning (ML) algorithms are employed to unravel potential patterns behind protein thermostability. This computational analysis conclusively shows inverse gamma turns, VIII turns, and the propensity of cysteine (Cys) to be the most important biophysical–biochemical attributes responsible for protein thermostability. From the propensity analysis of amino acids, polar residues, specifically glutamine (Gln) and serine (Ser), and charged residues, specifically glutamic acid (Glu) and lysine (Lys), are found to favor the enhancement of protein thermostability. The present case report describes the management of two alpacas undergoing repair of a metatarsal and a distal tibial fracture, respectively. Both animals received ketamine and medetomidine intramuscularly, resulting in deep sedation. Endotracheal intubation was performed, and general anaesthesia was maintained with sevoflurane. An in‐plane ultrasound‐guided sciatic nerve block was performed at the level of the mid‐thigh with bupivacaine 0.5% before surgery as part of the analgesic treatment. Meloxicam was administered. Heart rate, arterial blood pressure and respiratory rate were stable during the surgery, despite the use of a low end‐tidal sevoflurane concentration. No opioids were required intraoperatively. Duration of the anaesthesia was 205 and 255 minutes, respectively. Extubation was performed 12 and 6 minutes after discontinuing sevoflurane administration, respectively. In both cases, regional anaesthesia of the sciatic nerve improved the intraoperative management of alpacas that required surgical treatment for fractures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Room‐temperature liquid metal (LM)‐based electronics is expected to bring advancements in future soft electronics owing to its conductivity, conformability, stretchability, and biocompatibility. However, various difficulties arise when patterning LM because of its rheological features such as fluidity and surface tension. Numerous attempts are made to overcome these difficulties, resulting in various LM‐patterning methods. An appropriate choice of patterning method based on comprehensive understanding is necessary to fully utilize the unique properties. Therefore, the authors aim to provide thorough knowledge about patterning methods and unique properties for LM‐based future soft electronics. First, essential considerations for LM‐patterning are investigated. Then, LM‐patterning methods—serial‐patterning, parallel‐patterning, intermetallic bond‐assisted patterning, and molding/microfluidic injection—are categorized and investigated. Finally, perspectives on LM‐based soft electronics with unique properties are provided. They include outstanding features of LM such as conformability, biocompatibility, permeability, restorability, and recyclability. Also, they include perspectives on future LM‐based soft electronics in various areas such as radio frequency electronics, soft robots, and heterogeneous catalyst. Metal oxide (MO) semiconductors are widely used in electronic devices due to their high optical transmittance and promising electrical performance. This work describes the advancement toward an eco‐friendly, streamlined method for preparing thin‐film transistors (TFTs) via a pure water‐solution blade‐coating process with focus on a low thermal budget. Low temperature and rapid annealing of triple‐coated indium oxide thin‐film transistors (3C‐TFTs) and indium oxide/zinc oxide/indium oxide thin‐film transistors (IZI‐TFTs) on a 300 nm SiO2 gate dielectric at 300 °C for only 60 s yields devices with an average field effect mobility of 10.7 and 13.8 cm2 V−1 s−1, respectively. The devices show an excellent on/off ratio (>106), and a threshold voltage close to 0 V when measured in air. Flexible MO‐TFTs on polyimide substrates with AlOx dielectrics fabricated by rapid annealing treatment can achieve a remarkable mobility of over 10 cm2 V−1 s−1 at low operating voltage. When using a longer post‐coating annealing period of 20 min, high‐performance 3C‐TFTs (over 18 cm2 V−1 s−1) and IZI‐TFTs (over 38 cm2 V−1 s−1) using MO semiconductor layers annealed at 300 °C are achieved. High-quality electron transport layer (ETL) is a prerequisite for high-performance wide-bandgap mixed-halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs), which is critical for efficient perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells. Herein, an atomic layer deposited ZnO-SnO2 bilayer ETL for wide-bandgap PSCs is reported, featuring a high uniformity and conformality over a large area. The ZnO-SnO2 bilayer shows a matched band alignment with wide-bandgap perovskite for efficient electron extraction and transport, with a lower nonradiative recombination. As a result, a champion power conversion efficiency of 18.1% is achieved on the ZnO-SnO2 bilayer-based wide-bandgap PSCs featuring an ultrahigh open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 1.233 V, which is the highest value for wide-bandgap PSCs without any surface passivation. In addition, the atomic layer deposition ZnO-SnO2 bilayer exhibits very good surface passivation and conformality on crystalline silicon surfaces, which makes it attractive to be applied for perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells with a higher Voc and textured surfaces. Background: Bacterial resistance is currently a significant global public health problem. Acinetobacter baumannii has been ranked in the list of the World Health Organization as the most critical and priority pathogen for which new antibiotics are urgently needed. In this context, computational methods play a central role in the modern drug discovery process. The purpose of the current study was to identify new potential therapeutic molecules to neutralize MDR A. baumannii bacteria. Methods: A total of 3686 proteins retrieved from the A. baumannii proteome were subjected to subtractive proteomic analysis to narrow down the spectrum of drug targets. The SWISS‐MODEL server was used to perform a 3D homology model of the selected target protein. The SAVES server was used to evaluate the overall quality of the model. A dataset of 74500 analogues retrieved from the PubChem database was docked with LpxC using the AutoDock software. Results: In this study, we predicted a putative new inhibitor for the Lpxc enzyme of A. baumannii. The LpxC enzyme was selected as the most appropriate drug target for A. baumannii. According to the virtual screening results, N‐[(2S)‐3‐amino‐1‐(hydroxyamino)‐1‐oxopropan‐2‐yl]‐4‐(4‐bromophenyl) benzamide (CS250) could be a promising drug candidate targeting the LpxC enzyme. This molecule shows polar interactions with six amino acids and non‐polar interactions with eight other residues. In vitro experimental validation was performed through the inhibition assay. Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that suggests CS250 as a promising inhibitory molecule that can be exploited to target this gram‐negative pathogen. As part of rolled steel's design and optimization, computational modeling and simulation are increasingly applied for predicting the properties and microstructure of final steel products. The time and cost of resorting to traditional trial‐and‐error‐based methods can be significantly reduced using the computational method. Among the numerical approaches, the finite‐element (FE) method has been customarily utilized in various cold and hot rolling processes over the years for its numerical efficiency and precision. The rolling process involves a thermomechanical–metallurgical phenomenon, and thus the interdisciplinary coupling of these is a challenge to rolling simulation and modeling the scientific community. Herein, recent studies on FE modeling for predicting rolled shape, microstructural, and mechanical properties, among others, in steel rolling are extensively reviewed. An overview of the recent progress of the computational methods in multiscale computational architecture, which models the microstructural evolution and phase transformation by various sources, is particularly highlighted.
