Abstract Bone implantation surgery is often accompanied by bacterial infection, resulting in infectious bone non‐union, pathological fracture and other serious consequences, which will aggravate the pain of patients. A non‐antibiotic coating consisting of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and levulinic acid (LA) with different concentrations was prepared by the authors on the zinc–aluminium alloy (ZA6‐1) using a wet chemistry treatment for orthopaedic application. The influence of SDS/LA concentrations on the surface morphology, composition and performance of the developed coating was investigated. The results showed that as‐prepared coating on a zinc alloy surface could improve the substrate's corrosion resistance and increase the degradation rate from 0.82 to 19.70 μm/year upon raising the SDS/LA concentration. Furthermore, higher hydrophilicity (100%) and morphology, as well as good cell adhesion and differentiation (ALP >95% for 7 days) were observed on coated zinc alloys. The increased SDS/LA concentration slightly weakens the biocompatibility and enhances the antibacterial performance of coated zinc alloys due to the synergistic effect of SDS/LA. Overall, the coating comprising 6 wt.% SDS and 9 wt.% LA showed excellent antibacterial action with a high level of biocompatibility, confirming its potential application for orthopaedic implants.

Abstract Quasi‐2D perovskite quantum wells are increasingly recognized as promising candidates for direct‐conversion X‐ray detection. However, the fabrication of oriented and uniformly thick quasi‐2D perovskite films, crucial for effective high‐energy X‐ray detection, is hindered by the inherent challenges of preferential crystallization at the gas‐liquid interface, resulting in poor film quality. In addressing this limitation, a carbonyl array‐synergized crystallization (CSC) strategy is employed for the fabrication of thick films of a quasi‐2D Ruddlesden‐Popper (RP) phase perovskite, specifically PEA2MA4Pb5I16. The CSC strategy involves incorporating two forms of carbonyls in the perovskite precursor, generating large and dense intermediates. This design reduces the nucleation rate at the gas‐liquid interface, enhances the binding energies of Pb2+ at (202) and (111) planes, and passivates ion vacancy defects. Consequently, the construction of high‐quality thick films of PEA2MA4Pb5I16 RP perovskite quantum wells is achieved and characterized by vertical orientation and a pure well‐width distribution. The corresponding PEA2MA4Pb5I16 RP perovskite X‐ray detectors exhibit multi‐dimensional advantages in performance compared to previous approaches and commercially available a‐Se detectors. This CSC strategy promotes 2D perovskites as a candidate for next‐generation large‐area flat‐panel X‐ray detection systems.

Background The accurate selection of patients likely to respond to renal denervation (RDN) is crucial for optimizing treatment outcomes in patients with hypertension. This systematic review was designed to evaluate patient‐specific factors predicting the RDN response. Methods and Results We focused on individuals with hypertension who underwent RDN. Patients were categorized based on their baseline characteristics. The primary outcome was blood pressure (BP) reduction after RDN. Both randomized controlled trials and nonrandomized studies were included. We assessed the risk of bias using corresponding tools and further employed the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach to assess the overall quality of evidence. A total of 50 studies were ultimately included in this systematic review, among which 17 studies were for meta‐analysis. Higher baseline heart rate and lower pulse wave velocity were shown to be associated with significant antihypertensive efficacy of RDN on 24‐hour systolic BP reduction (weighted mean difference, −4.05 [95% CI, −7.33 to −0.77]; weighted mean difference, −7.20 [95% CI, −9.79 to −4.62], respectively). In addition, based on qualitative analysis, higher baseline BP, orthostatic hypertension, impaired baroreflex sensitivity, and several biomarkers are also reported to be associated with significant BP reduction after RDN. Conclusions In patients with hypertension treated with the RDN, higher heart rate, and lower pulse wave velocity were associated with significant BP reduction after RDN. Other factors, including higher baseline BP, hypertensive patients with orthostatic hypertension, BP variability, impaired cardiac baroreflex sensitivity, and some biomarkers are also reported to be associated with a better BP response to RDN.

Abstract Objective To analyze the risk factors associated with intubated critically ill patients in the emergency department (ED) and develop a prediction model by machine learning algorithms. Methods This study was conducted in an academic tertiary hospital in Hangzhou, China. Critically ill patients admitted to the ED were retrospectively analyzed from May 2018 to July 2022. The demographic characteristics, distribution of organ dysfunction, parameters for different organs’ examination, and status of mechanical ventilation were recorded. These patients were assigned to the intubation and non‐intubation groups according to ventilation support. We used the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm to develop the prediction model and compared it with other algorithms, such as logistic regression, artificial neural network, and random forest. SHapley Additive exPlanations was used to analyze the risk factors of intubated critically ill patients in the ED. Results Of 14,589 critically ill patients, 10,212 comprised the training group and 4377 comprised the test group; 2289 intubated patients were obtained from the electronic medical records. Abstract Stomatal optimization theory is a commonly used framework for modeling how plants regulate transpiration in response to the environment. Most stomatal optimization models assume that plants instantaneously optimize a reward function such as carbon gain. However, plants are expected to optimize over longer timescales given the rapid environmental variability they encounter. There are currently no observational constraints on these timescales. Here, a new stomatal model is developed and is used to analyze the timescales over which stomatal closure is optimized. The proposed model assumes plants maximize carbon gain subject to the constraint that they cannot draw down soil moisture below a critical value. The reward is integrated over time, after being weighted by a discount factor that represents the timescale (τ) that a plant considers when optimizing stomatal conductance to save water. The model is simple enough to be analytically solvable, which allows the value of τ to be inferred from observations of stomatal behavior under known environmental conditions. The model is fitted to eddy covariance data in a range of ecosystems, finding the value of τ that best predicts the dynamics of evapotranspiration at each site. Across 82 sites, the climate metrics with the strongest correlation to τ are measures of the average number of dry days between rainfall events. Values of τ are similar in magnitude to the longest such dry period encountered in an average year. The results here shed light on which climate characteristics shape spatial variations in ecosystem‐level water use strategy.

Abstract In this work, a novel coating with a non‐antibiotic agent for inhibiting Gram‐positive bacteria and promoting osteogenesis was prepared on zinc‐aluminium alloy (ZA6‐1) via mussel mimetic polydopamine (PDA) containing lysozyme (LYS) and parathyroid hormone (PTH). The results indicate that as‐deposited coatings can efficiently decrease the degradation rate of ZA6‐1 from 0.52 to 0.16 mm/year, and the addition of LYS weakens the coating resistance, while the addition of PTH enhances the coating resistance. In spite that no obvious inhibition of Escherichia coli is observed, the coated zinc alloys show good in vitro antibacterial performance against Staphylococcus aureus. Compared with ZA6‐1 zinc alloys, the increase of antibacterial efficacy reaches 86.9%–90.1%. Furthermore, the lower hydrophilicity (26.4°), higher osteoblast cell viability (>100%), good osteoblast cell morphology and better osteoblast cell differentiation (ALP = 107.7%) for PDA‐LYS/PTH coated samples support that as‐prepared coating is promising for modifying biodegradable zinc implants.

Abstract To investigate the biological role and mechanism of circ_0084188 in colorectal cancer (CRC). Real‐time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blot assay were used to detect RNA levels and protein levels in CRC cell lines (HCT116 and SW480), respectively. Cell proliferation was evaluated by Cell Counting Kit‐8 assay, 5‐ethynyl‐2′‐deoxyuridine assay, and colony formation assays. Cell apoptosis was determined using flow cytometry. Cell migration and invasion were measured by transwell assay. Sphere formation efficiency was determined by sphere formation assay. The interaction between microRNA‐654‐3p (miR‐654‐3p) and circ_0084188 or Kruppel‐like factor 12 (KLF12) was confirmed by a dual‐luciferase reporter, RNA immunoprecipitation and RNA pull‐down assays. Xenograft in CRC mice model was utilized for exploring the role of circ_0084188 in vivo.Circ_0084188 was overexpressed in CRC tissues and cells. Circ_0084188 silencing suppressed cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and stemness and induced apoptosis in CRC cells. Circ_0084188 acted as a sponge for miR‐654‐3p, and circ_0084188 regulated CRC cell behaviors via sponging miR‐654‐3p. Moreover, KLF12 was a target of miR‐654‐3p, and miR‐654‐3p overexpression inhibited the malignant behaviors of CRC cells by downregulating KLF12. Mechanically, circ_0084188 sponged miR‐654‐3p to regulate KLF12 expression in CRC cells. In addition, circ_0084188 downregulation inhibited tumor growth in vivo.Circ_0084188 knockdown might repress CRC progression partially via regulating the miR‐654‐3p/KLF12 axis, providing a novel insight into the pathogenesis of CRC.

Abstract The photothermal performance of black phosphorus (BP) in the near infrared (NIR)‐II bio‐window (1000–1500 nm) is low, which limits its biomedical applications. Herein, ultrasmall nickel phosphide quantum dots (Ni2P QDs) are synthesized with BP quantum dots (BPQDs) as the template by topochemical transformation. The size of Ni2P QDs is ≈3.5 nm, similar to that of BPQDs, whereas the absorption and photothermal conversion efficiency of Ni2P QDs at 1064 nm (43.5%) are significantly improved compared with those of BPQDs. To facilitate in vivo applications, an Ni2P QDs‐based liposomal nano‐platform (Ni2P‐DOX@Lipo‐cRGD) is designed by incorporation of Ni2P QDs and doxorubicin (DOX) into liposomal bilayers and the interior, respectively. The encapsulated DOX is responsively released from liposomes upon 1064‐nm laser irradiation owing to the photothermal effect of Ni2P QDs, and the drug release rate and amount are controlled by the light intensity and exposure time. In vivo, experiments show that Ni2P‐DOX@Lipo‐cRGD has excellent tumor target capability and biocompatibility, as well as complete tumor ablation through the combination of photothermal therapy and chemotherapy. The work provides a new paradigm for the NIR‐II transformation of nano‐materials and may shed light on the construction of multifunctional nano‐platforms for cancer treatment.

Abstract Objective Compared logistic regression (LR) with machine learning (ML) models, to predict the risk of ischemic stroke in an elderly population in China. Methods We applied 2208 records from the Rugao Longitudinal Ageing Study (RLAS) for ischemic stroke risk prediction assessment. Input variables included 103 phenotypes. For 3‐year ischemic stroke risk prediction, we compared the discrimination and calibration of LR model and ML methods, where ML methods include Random Forest (RF), Gaussian kernel Support Vector Machines (SVM), Multilayer perceptron (MLP), K‐Nearest Neighbors Algorithm (KNN), and Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT) to develop an ischemic stroke risk prediction model. Results Age, pulse, waist circumference, education level, β2‐microglobulin, homocysteine, cystatin C, folate, free triiodothyronine, platelet distribution width, QT interval, and QTc interval were significant induced predictors of ischemic stroke. For ischemic stroke prediction, the ML approach was able to tap more biochemical and ECG‐related multidimensional phenotypic indicators compared to the LR model, which placed more importance on general demographic indicators. Compared to the LR model, SVM provided the best discrimination and calibration (C‐index: 0.79 vs. 0.71, 11.27% improvement in model utility), with the best performance in both validation and test data. Conclusion In a comparison of LR with five ML models, the accuracy of ischemic stroke prediction was higher by combining ML with multiple phenotypes. Combined with other studies based on elderly populations in China, ML techniques, especially SVM, have shown good long‐term predictive performance, inspiring the potential value of ML use in clinical practice.

Abstract Addressing the challenge of promoting directional axonal regeneration in a hostile astrocytic scar, which often impedes recovery following spinal cord injury (SCI), remains a daunting task. Cell transplantation is a promising strategy to facilitate nerve restoration in SCI. In this research, a pro‐regeneration system is developed, namely miR‐26a@SPIONs‐OECs, for olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs), a preferred choice for promoting nerve regeneration in SCI patients. These entities show high responsiveness to external magnetic fields (MF), leading to synergistic multimodal cues to enhance nerve regeneration. First, an MF stimulates miR‐26a@SPIONs‐OECs to release extracellular vesicles (EVs) rich in miR‐26a. This encourages axon growth by inhibiting PTEN and GSK‐3β signaling pathways in neurons. Second, miR‐26a@SPIONs‐OECs exhibit a tendency to migrate and orientate along the direction of the MF, thereby potentially facilitating neuronal reconnection through directional neurite elongation. Third, miR‐26a‐enriched EVs from miR‐26a@SPIONs‐OECs can interact with host astrocytes, thereby diminishing inhibitory cues for neurite growth. In a rat model of SCI, the miR‐26a@SPIONs‐OECs system led to significantly improved morphological and motor function recovery. In summary, the miR‐26a@SPIONS‐OECs pro‐regeneration system offers innovative insights into engineering exogenous cells with multiple additional cues, augmenting their efficacy for stimulating and guiding nerve regeneration within a hostile astrocytic scar in SCI.

Abstract The treatment of bone defects remains a significant challenge to be solved clinically. Immunomodulatory properties of orthopedic biomaterials have significance in regulating osteoimmune microenvironment for osteogenesis. A lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid (PLGA) scaffold incorporates black phosphorus (BP) fabricated by 3D printing technology to investigate the effect of BP on osteoimmunomodulation and osteogenesis in site. The PLGA/BP scaffold exhibits suitable biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mechanical properties as an excellent microenvironment to support new bone formation. The studies' result also demonstrate that the PLGA/BP scaffolds are able to recruit and stimulate macrophages M2 polarization, inhibit inflammation, and promote human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) proliferation and differentiation, which in turn promotes bone regeneration in the distal femoral defect region of steroid‐associated osteonecrosis (SAON) rat model. Moreover, it is screened and demonstrated that PLGA/BP scaffolds can promote osteogenic differentiation by transcriptomic analysis, and PLGA/BP scaffolds promote osteogenic differentiation and mineralization by activating PI3K‐AKT signaling pathway in hBMSC cells. In this study, it is shown that the innovative PLGA/BP scaffolds are extremely effective in stimulating bone regeneration by regulating macrophage M2 polarization and a new strategy for the development of biomaterials that can be used to repair bone defects is offered.

Abstract Low‐flow removal of refractory ascites is critical to treating cirrhosis and digestive system tumor, and thus, commercial ascites pump emerged lately. The rigid structure of clinically available pumps rises complication rate and lack of flow rate monitoring hinders early warning of abnormalities. Herein, a soft artificial system was proposed inspired by lymph for interactive ascites transfer with great biocompatibility. The implantable system is composed of pump cavity, valves and tubes, which are soft and flexible made by silica gel. Therefore, the system possesses similar modulus to tissues and can naturally fit surrounding tissues. The cavity with magnetic tablet embedded is driven by extracorporeal magnetic field. Subsequently, the system can drain ascites with a top speed of 23 mL min−1, much higher than that of natural lymphatic system and state‐of‐art devices. Moreover, integrated flexible sensors enable wireless, real‐time flow rate monitoring, serving as proof of treatment adjustment, detection and locating of malfunction at early stage. The liver function of experimental objects was improved, and no severe complications occurred for 4 weeks, which proved its safety and benefit to treatment. This artificial lymphatic system can serve as a bridge to recovery and pave the way for further clinical research.

Abstract Although perovskite nanocrystals have attracted considerable interests as emerging semiconductors in optoelectronic devices, design and fabrication of a deformable structure with high stability and flexibility while meeting the charge transport requirements remain a huge challenge. Herein, a combined soft‐hard strategy is demonstrated to fabricate intrinsically flexible all‐inorganic perovskite layers for photodetection via ligand cross‐linking. Perfluorodecyltrichlorosilane (FDTS) is employed as the capping ligand and passivating agent bound to the CsPbBr3 surface via Pb‐F and Br‐F interactions. The SiCl head groups of FDTS are hydrolyzed to produce SiOH groups which subsequently condense to form the SiOSi network. The CsPbBr3@FDTS nanocrystals (NCs) are monodispersed cubes with an average particle size of 13.03 nm and exhibit excellent optical stability. Furthermore, the residual hydroxyl groups on the surface of the CsPbBr3@FDTS render the NCs tightly packed and cross‐linked to each other to form a dense and elastic CsPbBr3@FDTS film with soft and hard components. The photodetector based on the flexible CsPbBr3@FDTS film exhibits outstanding mechanical flexibility and robust stability after 5000 bending cycles.

Abstract Objective To investigate the risk factors for lateral lymph node metastasis (LLNM) in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Methods A retrospective analysis of 209 patients with PTC who underwent primary surgery at the Beijing Friendship Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University from November 2014 to November 2018 was performed. The patients were divided into the LLNM group and the non‐LLNM group. The clinical and pathological characteristics of the patients were analysed. The risk factors for LLNM were analysed by univariate and multivariate analyses. Results The incidence of LLNM was 13.4% in PTC patients. Univariate analysis showed that the maximum diameter of the primary tumour > 2 cm (P 2 cm, ETE, and CLNM were independent risk factors for LLNM (OR values were 3.880, 5.202, and 4.474, respectively). There were 6 patients with skip lateral cervical lymph node metastasis, accounting for 21% of all LLNM patients. Conclusion This study revealed several independent risk factors for predicting LLNM in PTC patients, such as the maximum diameter of the primary tumour > 2 cm, ETE and CLNM. Lateral neck dissection may be recommended in PTC patients with those risk factors. Paying attention to the occurrence of skip lateral cervical lymph node metastasis during the clinical diagnosis and treatment processes is necessary.

Abstract Background The focus of triticale breeding in the southern Great Plains of the United States has been to increase forage yield for autumn–winter seasons when most other forage species are dormant. This study aims to estimate the trends of seasonal yield changes over time. Methods Yield trials had been conducted in a randomized complete block design for up to two decades. Seasonal yield changes over time were estimated using linear regression analysis. Results The analysis revealed a significant positive relation between autumn forage yield (relative to common checks) and calendar years when the trials were conducted. The estimated improvement of autumn forage yield was about 1.9% per year on medium and heavy soil at Ardmore, Oklahoma, and about 5.4% per year on light soil at Burneyville, Oklahoma. However, winter forage yield change was minimal and the spring forage yield increase was negative, although this decline was not significant. Total forage yield improvements were about 0.6% and 0.7% per year at Ardmore and Burneyville, respectively. Similar results were also observed when years of cultivars' introduction were used instead. Conclusions The results indicate a significant gain in autumn forage yield, but a minor gain in the total forage yield due to the yield tradeoff between the autumn and spring seasons.

Abstract Owing to increasing global demand for carbon neutral and fossil‐free energy systems, extensive research is being conducted on efficient and inexpensive electrocatalysts for catalyzing the kinetically sluggish oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) at the cathode of fuel cells. Platinum (Pt)‐based alloys are considered promising candidates for replacing expensive Pt catalysts. However, the current screening process of Pt‐based alloys is time‐consuming and labor‐intensive, and the descriptor for predicting the activity of Pt‐based catalysts is generally inaccurate. This study proposed a strategy by combining high‐throughput first‐principles calculations and machine learning to explore the descriptor used for screening Pt‐based alloy catalysts with high Pt utilization and low Pt consumption. Among the 77 prescreened candidates, we identified 5 potential candidates for catalyzing ORR with low overpotential. Furthermore, during the second and third rounds of active learning, more Pt‐based alloys ORR candidates are identified based on the relationship between structural features of Pt‐based alloys and their activity. In addition, we highlighted the role of structural features in Pt‐based alloys and found that the difference between the electronegativity of Pt and heteroatom, the valence electrons number of the heteroatom, and the ratio of heteroatoms around Pt are the main factors that affect the activity of ORR. More importantly, the combination of those structural features can be used as structural descriptor for predicting the activity of Pt‐based alloys. We believe the findings of this study will provide new insight for predicting ORR activity and contribute to exploring Pt‐based electrocatalysts with high Pt utilization and low Pt consumption experimentally.

Abstract Background There is no consensus on whether triplet regimen is better than doublet regimen in the first‐line treatment of advanced gastric cancer (AGC). We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of oxaliplatin plus capecitabine (XELOX) and epirubicin, oxaliplatin, plus capecitabine (EOX) regimens in treating AGC. Methods This phase III trial enrolled previously untreated patients with AGC who were randomly assigned to receive the XELOX or EOX regimen. The primary endpoint was non‐inferiority in progression‐free survival (PFS) for XELOX as compared with EOX on an intention‐to‐treat basis. Results Between April 10, 2015 and August 20, 2020, 448 AGC patients were randomized to receive XELOX (n = 222) or EOX (n = 226). The median PFS (mPFS) was 5.0 months (95% confidence interval [CI] = 4.5‐6.0 months) in the XELOX arm and 5.5 months (95% CI = 5.0‐6.0 months) in the EOX arm (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.989, 95% CI = 0.812‐1.203; Pnon‐inferiority = 0.003). There was no significant difference in median overall survival (mOS) (12.0 vs. 12.0 months, P = 0.384) or objective response rate (37.4% vs. 45.1%, P = 0.291) between the two groups. In patients with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma and liver metastasis, the EOX arm had a significantly longer mOS (P = 0.021) and a trend of longer mPFS (P = 0.073) than the XELOX arm. The rate of grade 3/4 adverse events (AEs) was 42.2% (90/213) in the XELOX arm and 72.5% (156/215) in the EOX arm (P = 0.001). The global health‐related quality of life (QoL) score was significantly higher in the XELOX arm than in the EOX arm during chemotherapy. Conclusions This non‐inferiority trial demonstrated that the doublet regimen was as effective as the triplet regimen and had a better safety profile and QoL as a first‐line treatment for AGC patients. However, the triplet regimen might have a survival advantage in patients with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma and liver metastasis.

Abstract Although perovskite wafers with a scalable size and thickness are suitable for direct X‐ray detection, polycrystalline perovskite wafers have drawbacks such as the high defect density, defective grain boundaries, and low crystallinity. Herein, PbI2‐DMSO powders are introduced into the MAPbI3 wafer to facilitate crystal growth. The PbI2 powders absorb a certain amount of DMSO to form the PbI2‐DMSO powders and PbI2‐DMSO is converted back into PbI2 under heating while releasing DMSO vapor. During isostatic pressing of the MAPbI3 wafer with the PbI2‐DMSO solid additive, the released DMSO vapor facilitates in situ growth in the MAPbI3 wafer with enhanced crystallinity and reduced defect density. A dense and compact MAPbI3 wafer with a high mobility‐lifetime (µτ) product of 8.70 × 10−4 cm2 V−1 is produced. The MAPbI3‐based direct X‐ray detector fabricated for demonstration shows a high sensitivity of 1.58 × 104 µC Gyair−1 cm−2 and a low detection limit of 410 nGyair s−1.

Objective To investigate three‐dimensional distribution of bone‐resorptive lesions based on the three‐pillar classification and its effect on the disease progression of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). Methods A total of 194 femoral head CT images from 117 patients diagnosed with ARCO stage II and III ONFH were retrospectively reviewed from April 2014 to February 2019. Three‐dimensional structures of the femoral head and the bone‐resorptive lesions were reconstructed. Using the three‐pillar classification and coronal plane of the femoral head, we divided each femoral head into six regions to observe the location characteristics of bone‐resorption lesions, and explore the destruction of different areas of the femoral head by the bone‐resorptive lesions. Then the hips were divided into two groups based on whether they contained bone‐resorption lesions and compared the difference of stage II and stage III between the two groups. Results The regional distribution revealed 39 (27.27%), 55 (38.46%), six (4.20%), 23 (16.08%), 17 (11.89%) and three (2.10%) bone‐resorptive lesions in regions I, II, III, IV, V and VI respectively. The lateral pillar, AL (I + IV), contained 44.76% of the lesions, central pillar, C (II + V), 48.95%, and medial pillar, M (III + VI), 6.29%. Moreover, there were 81.82% bone‐resorption lesions in anterolateral pillar, AL (I + II + IV), and 18.18% in posteromedial pillar, PM (III + V + VI). In all ONFH hips, the lateral pillar of 81(88.04%) femoral heads were affected, the central pillar of 84 (91.30%) femoral heads were affected, and the medical pillar of 29 (31.52%) femoral heads were affected. The ratio of ARCO stage III in the group with bone‐resorption lesions was significantly higher than that of the group without bone‐resorption lesions (76.09% vs 30.39%, P

Abstract A variety of microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in the occurrence and development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the role of miR‐10a‐5p in the progression of HCC remains unclear. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the role of miR‐10a‐5p in the development of HCC and the possible molecular mechanism. miR‐10a‐5p expression in HCC tissues and plasma from patients was detected by quantitative real‐time polymerase chain reaction. Migratory changes in HCC cells were detected after the overexpression of miR‐10a‐5p. Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT)‐related proteins were detected by Western blot. Finally, through luciferase assay and rescue experiments, the mechanism by which miR‐10a‐5p regulates its downstream gene, human spindle and kinetochore‐associated complex subunit 1, SKA1 and the interaction between these molecules in the development of HCC were determined. The expression of miR‐10a‐5p was markedly downregulated in HCC tissues, cell lines, and plasma. The overexpression of miR‐10a‐5p significantly inhibited the migration, invasion, and EMT of HCC cells. Furthermore, SKA1 was shown to be a downstream gene of miR‐10a‐5p. SKA1 silencing had the same effect as miR‐10a‐5p overexpression in HCC. In particular, the overexpression of SKA1 reversed the inhibitory effects of miR‐10a‐5p in HCC. Taken together, low miR‐10a‐5p expression is associated with HCC progression. miR‐10a‐5p inhibits the malignant development of HCC by negatively regulating SKA1.

Abstract This study proposes a holistic data‐driven method for the optimal sizing and operation of a building‐level islanded microgrid with renewable energy resources in an urban setting. Firstly, various metres are integrated on an energy monitoring platform where field data are collected. A randomised learning‐based forecasting model is designed for supply/demand prediction in the microgrid. Based on the forecasting results, data‐driven uncertainty modelling is used to characterise the uncertainties associated with renewable energy supply and loads. An optimal sizing approach is then proposed to determine the optimal sizes for energy storage systems (ESSs) and distributed generators with the overall aim of minimising the investment and maintenance costs. Based on the optimal sizing and uncertainty scenarios, a two‐stage coordinated energy management method is proposed to minimise the operating cost under uncertainties. To validate the proposed method, it is compared with a benchmark method. Simulation results show that the proposed method can reduce the system cost while preserving the ESS lifetime. The developed methods are packaged onto a real‐time platform for implementation.

The objective was to introduce a new endoscopic technique‐interspinous plasty for low back pain from Baastrup's disease; based on clinical manifestations, imaging findings and diagnostic test, to discuss a detailed diagnostic procedure for Baastrup's disease; and to explore the mechanism of interspinous plasty in pain relief. To our knowledge, there is no report about the results of endoscopic lumbar technique for Baastrup's disease. This study described the successful full‐endoscopic surgical treatment for Baastrup's disease, providing a brand‐new therapeutic method for patients. Clinical manifestations, imaging findings, including X‐ray, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging, and a “positive” diagnostic test with local anesthetic were used to confirm Baastrup's disease in the three included patients. The interspinous plasty procedure, which aimed to recover a physiological gap between the adjacent spinous processes, was performed by full‐endoscopic resection of marginal osteophytes. The removal of local inflamed tissue and reducing inflammation via intraoperative saline irrigation also lead to pain relief. Clinical outcomes included visual analog scale (VAS) for low back pain and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). The distance between the adjacent spinous processes was measured from the preoperative and postoperative CT scan. We calculated and recorded the difference between preoperative and postoperative measurements. Technical procedures and advantages of interspinous plasty are introduced. The three patients showed improvement in terms of the postoperative VAS of low back pain (from 8 to 2, from 7 to 1 and from 8 to 2) and ODI (from 68.9% to 33.3%, from 77.8% to 28.9% and from 71.1% to 28.9%, respectively) at the 12‐month follow‐up. Compared postoperative ODI index, the ODI index increased from 26.7% to 33.3% and from 24.4% to 28.9% in two of the cases at the 12‐month follow‐up. At 1 week, CT confirmed an obvious reduction in the marginal osteophytes between the adjacent spinous processes. Compared with those on preoperative CT images, the distance between adjacent spinous processes on postoperative CT was enlarged from 1 to 4 mm, and a repeated CT scan 3 months later reconfirmed little recrudescent osteoproliferation. In selected cases, full‐endoscopic surgical treatment for chronic mechanical back pain as part of the phenomena of Baastrup's disease may be beneficial. The operations in this study were performed under local anesthesia, with satisfactory early clinical outcomes and a low incidence of complications or adverse events. This may be a feasible therapeutic method or an alternative option for patients who cannot tolerate general anesthesia surgery.

Abstract Gastric cancer is one of the most common cancers globally and has a poor prognosis. MiR‐936 has been reported to regulate cell activity and tumor progression in non‐small cell lung cancer, glioma, and epithelial ovarian cancer. However, the specific role and mechanism of miR‐936 in gastric cancer have not been explored. In present study, gastric cancer cells were transfected with miR‐936 mimic, and cell proliferation, cell cycle distribution, cell apoptosis, migration and invasion were assessed via cell‐counting kit‐8, flow cytometry, wound healing, and transwell assay, respectively. Dual luciferase reporter assay was used to check miR‐936 binding to its downstream target. It was shown that miR‐936 was downregulated in gastric cancer tissues and cells. Erb‐B2 Receptor Tyrosine Kinase 4 (ERBB4) was confirmed as a direct target of miR‐936 and negatively regulated its expression by miR‐936. Overexpression of miR‐936 suppressed cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, cell migration and invasion, and enhanced cell apoptosis in gastric cancer cells, which could be reversed by further ERBB4 overexpression. Western blot results showed that miR‐936/ERBB4 axis regulated Akt‐related pathways to control gastric cancer cell activities. Therefore, our data suggest that miR‐936 overexpression inhibits cell proliferation and invasion and promotes cell apoptosis through Akt‐related pathways by targeting ERBB4, which provides novel insight to target miR‐936 or miR‐936/ERBB4 axis for the treatment of gastric cancer.

A battery energy storage system (BESS) is an effective solution to mitigate real‐time power imbalance by participating in power system frequency control. However, battery aging resulted from intensive charge–discharge cycles will inevitably lead to lifetime degradation, which eventually incurs high‐operating costs. This study proposes a deep reinforcement learning‐based data‐driven approach for optimal control of BESS for frequency support considering the battery lifetime degradation. A cost model considering battery cycle aging cost, unscheduled interchange price, and generation cost is proposed to estimate the total operational cost of BESS for power system frequency support, and an actor–critic model is designed for optimising the BESS controller performance. The effectiveness of the proposed optimal BESS control method is verified in a three‐area power system.

Background. Ovarian cancer (OC) is a malignant tumor that seriously threatens women’s health. Molecular classification based on metabolic genes can reflect the deeper characteristics of ovarian cancer and provide support for prognostic evaluation and the guidance of individualized treatment. Method. The metabolic subtypes were determined by consensus clustering and CDF. We used the ssGSEA method to calculate the IFNγ score of each patient. The CIBERSORT method was used to evaluate the score distribution and differential expression of 22 immune cells, and LDA was applied to establish a subtype classification feature index. The Kaplan-Meier and ROC curves were generated to validate the prognostic performance of metabolic subtypes in different cohorts. WGCNA was used to screen the coexpression modules associated with metabolic genes. Results. We obtained three metabolic subtypes (MC1, MC2, and MC3). MC2 had the best prognosis, and MC1 and MC3 had poor prognoses. Consistently, MC2 subtype had higher T cell lytic activity and lower angiogenesis, IFNγ, T cell dysfunction, and rejection scores. TIDE analysis showed that MC2 patients were more likely to benefit from immunotherapy; MC1 patients were more sensitive to immune checkpoint inhibitors and traditional chemotherapy drugs. The multiclass AUCs based on the RNASeq and GSE cohorts were 0.93 and 0.84, respectively. Finally, we screened 11 potential gene markers related to the metabolic characteristic index that could be used to indicate the prognosis of OC. Conclusion. Molecular subtypes related to metabolism are crucial to comprehensively understand the molecular pathological characteristics related to metabolism for OC development, explore reliable markers for prognosis, improve the OC staging system, and guide personalized treatment.

Limited by the effective launch capacity of a rocket, the deployable antenna is very important in the design of spaceborne antenna array. Compared to traditional deployable antenna, flexible coilable antenna array has higher surface precision and better vibration control and therefore is more suitable for high frequency communication. In order to minimize the weight of satellite and reduce cost of its launch, a design guideline to the geometry parameters of flexible coilable antenna array is crucial. Existing models cannot be directly applied to interaction and large deformation between coilable membrane and conical spiral antenna in the flexible coilable antenna array. Hence, the geometry parameters of the conical spiral structure and the thickness of the coilable membrane in the flexible coilable antenna array have not been optimized yet. In this paper, the interaction between the coilable membrane and the concial spiral antenna is analyzed in the antenna array. A concise formula is derived to predict the critical force that flattens the conical spiral antenna by a coiling scroll. Combined with a theoretical model to predict the deformation of the membrane, the model provides an important theoretical support for the lightweight design and mechanical design of flexible coilable antenna array, such as the thickness of the coilable membrane. The proposed design is validated by experiments. The above findings have potential applications in the effective reduction of antenna array weight and satellite launch costs.

Abstract Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) is an emerging treatment that usually employs chemical agents to decompose hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into hydroxyl radical (•OH) via Fenton or Fenton‐like reactions, inducing cell apoptosis or necrosis by damaging biomacromolecules such as, lipids, proteins, and DNA. Generally, CDT shows high tumor‐specificity and minimal‐invasiveness in patients, thus it has attracted extensive research interests. However, the catalytic reaction efficiency of CDT is largely limited by the relatively high pH at the tumor sites. Herein, a 808 nm laser‐potentiated peroxidase catalytic/mild‐photothermal therapy of molybdenum diphosphide nanorods (MoP2 NRs) is developed to improve CDT performance, and simultaneously achieve effective tumor eradication and anti‐infection. In this system, MoP2 NRs exhibit a favorable cytocompatibility due to their inherent excellent elemental biocompatibility. Upon irradiation with an 808 nm laser, MoP2 NRs act as photosensitizers to efficiently capture the photo‐excited band electrons and valance band holes, exhibiting enhanced peroxidase‐like catalytic activity to sustainedly decompose tumor endogenous H2O2 to •OH, which subsequently destroy the cellular biomacromolecules both in tumor cells and bacteria. As demonstrated both in vitro and in vivo, this system exhibits a superior therapeutic efficiency with inappreciable toxicity. Hence, the work may provide a promising therapeutic technique for further clinical applications.

Next‐generation robots are being designed to function autonomously in complex and unstructured environments. In particular, based on the real‐time measurement and differentiation of normal pressure and shear force, robots can be equipped with the capabilities of damage‐free grasp within minimum force limits, as well as dexterous operation through surface roughness and slip information. Herein, a flexible tactile sensor with a small cylinder protrusion and four arc‐shaped protrusions is developed. Due to its center symmetry and axisymmetry characteristics, the normal pressure and shear force can be decoupled from the complex stress without any interference from torsion. The flexible tactile sensor exhibits good linearity and superior cycling stability and is capable of determining the magnitude and direction of the applied force accurately. The flexible tactile sensor is comfortable to wear, and it is integrated onto the manipulator to realize various delicate and dexterous tasks, such as pressure detection, interaction with fragile objects, and roughness identification. Moreover, intelligent recognition of the sliding and stationary states can be achieved by decoding signals of sliding friction and static friction from the feedback information, leading to real time and precise adjustment of the grasping state of the manipulator.

In order to research the force state of the piers subjected to a ship collision under the protection of floating anti-collision facilities, this study uses nonlinear spring connections to simulate the impact of ship damping and incidental water quality in the collision area. BIM technology is used to realize a safety evaluation method for the anti-collision floating box protection when the ship is colliding with piers. Established a BIM-based parametric preprocessing model for ships, piers, and anti-collision facilities, and opened the interface with ABAQUS longitudinally. After realizing the parameter adjustment of the BIM model, the visual parameter adjustment can be realized without destroying the boundary conditions, load conditions, and meshing. Taking a rigid frame bridge as an example, the most disadvantage position of the bridge pier under ship collision is determined by the parameterization method. At the same time, multi-condition analysis was carried out on the ship impacting the pier anti-collision floating box at different angles, different tonnages, and different speeds. Finally, the analysis results are traced back to the BIM model, achieving the unified integration of BIM model information and finite element analysis results and the purpose of visual analysis of any working conditions. The results show that the use of BIM parameterization technology to achieve linkage with the finite element preprocessing model can improve the efficiency of multi-condition sensitivity analysis and achieve the purpose of visual dynamic adjustment. The safety assessment analysis of the pier under the protection of the anti-collision pontoon on the pier under various working conditions shows that the anti-collision pontoon effectively reduces the hazard of the ship colliding with the pier, and the impact force gradually increases with the change from the oblique collision to the frontal collision. The peak impact force increases with the weight of the ship and shows a nonlinear relationship, such that the peak value of impact force increases with the speed increase, and the speed and the peak values of impact force show basically a linear relationship.
