This section offers updates on several conferences held in the U.S. on February 1983 which focused on art documentation. Conservators met in May and in September 1982 in the U.S. and addressed a number of areas of concern. The Tenth Annual Meeting of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC), was held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from May 26 to 30, 1982 and contained a wealth of information for those interested in book and paper conservation. The 1982 Congress of the International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, the parent of AIC, was held in Washington, D.C. from September 3 to 9, 1982. Over 700 delegates from around the world attended. Its theme was Science and Technology in the Service of Conservation, and papers focused on the collaboration between conservators and scientists. The Society of American Archivists met in Boston, Massachusetts from October 19 to 22, 2005. Its theme was Only One Among Many: Cooperation and Coordination among Allied Disciplines and Professions.

The article provides information on the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions Conference held in the U.S. in August 1985. Information on the speakers and the papers presented during the conference is provided. Key note speaker Philip Pacey's paper addressed the efforts toward the goal of universal availability of art publications. Other activities include a visit to the Library of the School of the Art Institute and an open house at the library of the Harrington Institute of Interior Design.

The article presents history of science-related news briefs on topics including the History of Science Society Annual Meeting which was held in 2018, Science History Institute Haas Postdoctoral Fellow Ingrid Ockert's receipt of the 2018 2018 HSS/NASA Fellowship in Aerospace History. It states that historian Owen Hyman's won the Ronald Rainger Prize for his essay "Anxieties of the Plastic Age: Cotton Culture, White Supremacy, and Tenant Forestry in the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta, 1935–1953."

The article describes the papers presented at the conference 'Regulation of Medical Innovation and Pharmaceutical Markets' held at the University of Chicago, Illinois on April 20-21, 2001. The conference brought together leading economic experts on the U.S. pharmaceutical industry to discuss policy issues facing the industry. The policy focus of the conference was motivated by the fact that medical innovation and pharmaceutical markets have been subject to substantial public intervention in terms both of regulation and of fiscal subsidies and taxes. Put together, these papers illustrate the large and important set of policy questions that continue to face the regulation of this industry.

The papers presented at the April 1975 conference on economic analysis of political behavior in Cambridge, Massachusetts, are discussed. All of the papers focused on various aspects of the relationship between law and economics. The three papers given at session 1 were all exercises in public choice, and dealt with bureaucracy. The papers in session 2 leaned towards behaviorist political science. The third session consisted of one paper about the legal system. These papers may provide an entry in the traditional political science literature for public choice students with economic backgrounds. In sum, the conference probably performed more of a role in developing interdisciplinary work than individual papers taken individually would imply.

The article reports on several developments in the Archives of American Art regional center in West Coast, U.S. as of March 1996. San Francisco artist Jerome Caja's papers, which includes correspondence, photographs and printed materials, were donated to the Archives by his executor Anna van der Meulen. The Archives have also acquired the papers of Cleo, a long-time nude model for many artists, which included her autobiography, her photographs and photos of works where she modeled. Moreover, the Archives' West Coast regional center sponsored the symposium "With New Eyes: Towards an Asian American Art History on the West Coast" held at the M. H. de Young Memorial Museum, along with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and San Francisco State University.

The article presents new briefs on art documentation in the U.S. as of December 1, 1987. The Council for International Exchange of Scholars has announced the opening of competition for the 1988-89 Fulbright grants in research and university lecturing abroad for periods ranging from three months to a full academic year. A calendar of meetings and workshops of various art libraries is also presented. The American Library Association and Forest Press has established an award to honor contributions made to international librarianship.

Carla Montori of the Yale University Preservation Department has participated in the Library Preservation: Implementing Programs conference sponsored by the Resources & Technical Services Division of the American Library Association with cooperation of the Library of Congress. The article reports developments related to education in the U.S. The 18th educational conference of academies and high schools in relations with the University of Chicago was held at the university on November 11 and 12, 1904. The 1904 conference in some papers were devoted mainly to reports of what is being done in different places with the six-year high-school course. The high-school teachers are distinctly generous with regard to the distribution of the students' time in school.

Information about papers discussed at a symposium sponsored by the Klingenstein Center at Columbia's Teachers College dealing on privatization and school choice is presented. The principle objective was to understand the place of independent schools in the context of American education and to deepen the sense of social responsibility among educators. The gathering started with discussion of Horace Mann's writing on democratic education.

This article focuses on the debate on "The Two Art Histories," organized by Charles Haxthausen, director of the Williams College Graduate Program in the History of Art, during the Clark Conference held from April 9-10, 1999. His goal was to explore the underlying institutional factors that help these extremes to exist, where and how the two art histories might favorably intersect and whether comparable issues are at play across the national borders of Great Britain, Germany and the U.S.

The article presents papers prepared for the 1966 annual Conference of the American Bankers Association and the comments on those papers invited from or offered by participants in that Conference. In some cases the papers have been extensively revised in the light of discussion and criticism at the Conference; in consequence, it has unfortunately not been possible to make absolutely sure that all comments remain relevant to the revisions of the texts to which they were originally addressed. Reasons for the choice of topics for the Conference should be reasonably self explanatory, but some comment on this subject may be helpful.

The article presents an essay that investigates in the rise and fall of the agricultural innovations philosophy developed by the National Catholic Rural Life Conference (NCRLC) in the 1930s as a force of environmentalism in the U.S. It also concentrates on three aspects of the NCRLC after the evolution of its development, its growth around 1940, and its social process after the war including ideology, development of agricultural technologies, and orientation toward Catholic nature spirituality.

This article presents the text of the opening plenary session speech given by Fred Heath at the annual conference of the Art Libraries Society of North America in Houston, Texas in April 2005. Heath described research universities according to a 1994 definition of the Carnegie Foundation. The theme of the conference is highlighted. In October of 2001 the author participated in an enlightening conference at Colgate University called “ Laying Claim: (Re) Considering Artists of African Descent in the Americas,” which was organized by Mary Ann Calo and Helen Shannon. The conference and the virtual conversation that followed helped him to rethink an essay he wrote in 1994 and to consider further the resistance by many scholars in the field to the application of contemporary critical theory to African American art.He found it interesting and exciting that you utilized critical theory in your approach to African American art. It seems that many African American art historians write off discourses such as psychoanalysis, poststructuralism, queer theory, and social theory as irrelevant to black life. The author is disturbed by the focus placedon Harlem Renaissance works, while there is a tendency to negateor marginalize contemporaneous black art production.
