Knowledge transfer in engineering design activity involves effectively applying prior practical experience in novel contexts. While related works fostering knowledge transfer focus on educational practices and experience generalisation, recent advancements enable us to analyze its complex cognitive processes using neuroimaging technology. This paper proposes a multimodal approach for facilitating knowledge transfer in engineering design, utilising functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and eye-tracking technologies based on neurocognitive profiling. We conducted knowledge transfer experiments using mixed and extended design tasks. Meanwhile, The analysis focused on gaze duration, gaze counts, brain region activation levels, functional connectivity, and effective connectivity of the participants. Finally, we employed stepwise linear regression to identify significant and potential associated factors of knowledge transfer. By combining eye-tracking predictors and brain network predictors, a multivariate linear discriminant analysis (LDA) significantly differentiated between participants in near-transferred and far-transferred states, achieving an accuracy of 91.16% using leave-one-out cross-validation. The 'basic-supplementary-target task' method effectively improved the knowledge transfer performance by 27.6%. This study seeks to find out the main achievements of a cross-border cooperation project (INESPO III) in terms of innovation and university-firm knowledge transfer in a region situated in the central region of Portugal and Castile and León, Spain. To achieve this aim, research of a qualitative and exploratory nature was chosen., that is, case study method. Data collection was based on seven interviews with several project actors, and content analysis was also used. Through interviews with project beneficiaries, empirical evidence suggests that this type of cooperation allows access to new sources of external knowledge, with the network benefiting globally from each partner's type of specialization. This study makes an important contribution to the literature on cross-border cooperation by extending its field of research to knowledge transfer and innovation, analysing a project that has produced good results. It can be determinant for government institutions responsible for administering cross-border incentive systems, and for partner networks in drawing process of similar projects for benefit of their own regions, besides the clear academic interest in business cooperation networks. In contrast to the other papers in this special issue, this paper reflects a specific case of co-agency between states and individual migrants, particularly students and alumni networks. Based on a qualitative case study with 29 Georgian students and 14 institutions and organizations, this paper explores the impact of Georgian alumni on polity building in Georgia. Here we can observe two phases: Firstly, the states of Georgia and of Germany act as co-agents by facilitating migration to young Georgian students by financing their studies in Germany (student scholarships) with the objective that the students return and transfer their knowledge to the country of origin. Subsequently, the Georgian alumni who studied law in Germany act as co-agents between different institutions in both countries. In doing so, they transform state institutions by themselves and contribute to the development of the legal and political system in Georgia. They do that particularly in such important legal fields like constitutional law, civic law, and criminal law, but also in the creation of parliamentarism based on a bicameral system or the promotion of separation of church and state in Georgia. The aim of this article is to analyze the relationships between haute cuisine chefs and to identify which elements of these relationships enhance the generation of ideas and the exchange of knowledge. A qualitative methodology is applied based on the analysis of in-depth interviews with almost the entire population of Michelin-starred chefs of Catalonia, Spain, an outstanding case in this sector. The findings show the most important elements of the relationships that drive the creation and transfer of knowledge. These elements can be differentiated between professional and personal aspects and classified as face-to-face or non-face-to-face. Admiration, recognition and collaboration are some of the examples of the effects derived from these relationships. The identified elements are important not only as sources of inspiration in creativity and innovation processes but also to create a professional and personal environment to collaborate and achieve common objectives of the sector. Knowledge transfer is considered the efficient way to improve regional innovation, but relatively little is known about how the innovation efficiency of scientific and technological (S&T) talents is affected by knowledge transfer within institutional environment, particularly, limited studies carried out regional differentiation analysis. Using panel data from 30 provinces in China between 2005 and 2017, this article empirically tests the influence of the institutional environment on knowledge transfer and analyses its impact between knowledge transfer and innovation efficiency of S&T talents in China. The results show knowledge transfer can significantly improve both the scientific and the economic innovation efficiency of S&T talents. Moreover, the effects of knowledge transfer on the innovation efficiency of S&T talents in eastern, central and western China had heterogeneity. Formal and informal institutions play mediating roles between knowledge transfer and innovation efficiency of S&T talents. This study contributes to the literature by constructing an econometric model with identified variables to test the impact of knowledge transfer on the innovation efficiency of S&T talents in China, in addition, the equation about knowledge transfer was explored. Employing the Foucauldian term 'conduct', this article explores how social resilience and morale became a target of state intervention in Denmark during the Cold War. 'Psychological defence' was a Cold War phenomenon designed to bring an imagined future war into a space of control as well as a tool for the authorities' exercise of power in case another world war became a reality. Advocating a methodological internationalism, the article analyses how the concept of psychological defence travelled from Sweden to Denmark via Norway and NATO, and in a complex process of translation, mixing and hybridization was adapted and appropriated to Danish security policy conditions, preparedness culture, and historical experiences. Ultimately, psychological defence was replaced with a more practical or even cynical approach to public information and media preparedness, even if the objectives remained the same. The design of government subsidies is essential in supporting collaborative innovation and promoting sustainable development in R&D networks. This study explores the influence of different government subsidy strategies designed for R&D networks on inter-enterprise knowledge transfer. Drawing upon evolutionary game theory, it examines how impact is contingent upon enterprises' risk attitudes and reputation effects. The results indicate that when enterprises exhibit homogeneous risk attitudes, government subsidy policies encouraging risk-seeking behaviors can effectively enhance the knowledge-transferring level. When enterprises possess heterogeneous risk attitudes, a greater diversity of risk attitudes leads to a more conducive environment for knowledge transfer. Incorporating a rigorous reputation tolerance into the design of government subsidies in R&D networks can effectively elevate knowledge transfer. Therefore, policymakers can design tailored government subsidies and incentive mechanisms grounded in enterprises' risk attitudes and reputation effects. Transfer learning provides a powerful tool for incorporating data from related studies into a target study of interest. In epidemiology and medical studies, the classification of a target disease could borrow information across other related diseases and populations. In this work, we consider transfer learning for high-dimensional Generalized Linear Models (GLMs). A novel algorithm, TransHDGLM, that integrates data from the target study and the source studies is proposed. Minimax rate of convergence for estimation is established and the proposed estimator is shown to be rate-optimal. Statistical inference for the target regression coefficients is also studied. Asymptotic normality for a debiased estimator is established, which can be used for constructing coordinate-wise confidence intervals of the regression coefficients. Numerical studies show significant improvement in estimation and inference accuracy over GLMs that only use the target data. The proposed methods are applied to a real data study concerning the classification of colorectal cancer using gut microbiomes, and are shown to enhance the classification accuracy in comparison to methods that only use the target data. for this article are available online. Many knowledge transfer studies analyze channels that carry knowledge from university to industry and society. Action research has become a method to produce and transfer scientific knowledge at the same time; however, knowledge transfer studies rarely employ action research, and action research has rarely addressed the topic of knowledge transfer. Hence, there have been few opportunities to reflect upon the boundaries between the object of knowledge transfer studies and the knowledge transfer embodied in action research. Here, we present a first theoretical attempt to fill this gap, clarifying the concepts at play and drawing lessons for knowledge transfer studies about the dimensions through which knowledge transfer occurs in the communicative space generated during action research. We also ground our reflections on the suitability of introducing action research in knowledge transfer studies by conducting interviews with some of the most influential researchers in the field. Action research is posited as a way to increase engagement with research stakeholders, as called for by current demands to achieve higher societal impact. AbstractIt is known that skilled immigrants learn to integrate professionally. This paper complexifies this image. By following the experiences of ‘successful’ immigrants working in the engineering profession in Canada, it argues that immigrants engage in not only learning but also knowledge ‘transfer’. Their learning at work often starts as legitimate peripheral participation, and evolves through expansive participation in work activities. Meanwhile, they also ‘transfer’ knowledge and practices, a role that could be amplified given their transnational experiences. Immigrants’ learning and knowledge practices can also be understood as a sociomaterial process of translation, through which they knot together people and objects, while negotating power, position, and positionality at the same time. Through continuous learning and knowledge practices, the paper further highlights that immigrant engineers necessarily articulate themselves into, and to some extent, reticulate the epistemic ‘machineries’ or ‘culture’ of the profession, which is constituted through a nexus of professional associations, societies, institutions, and practice communities that are bounded by professional domains and interests, and lifeworld exigencies. Conceptually, this paper draws on practice-based theories and views continuous learning and knowing as an effect of the sociocultural and sociomaterial organization of professional practices. Existing literature on international health partnerships is largely normative, with an evaluative interest in their impacts in terms of learning and knowledge transfer. Rarely has research attended to how learning and knowledge transfer transpire in practice. This paper addresses this gap with a case study of a partnership between two hospitals in Canada and China. Conceptually, drawing on Actor Network Theory, it posits learning and knowledge transfer as a process of translation. Empirically, it traces the assembling of the programme, and identifies the pedagogical features at nodes of associations. It reveals that health professionals in both countries have expanded their clinical and medical knowledge and practices, and professional senses and sensitivities, which were subsequently amplified, deferred or diminished within their respective practices. It argues that the capacity of individuals to translate learning into practice is contingent on institutional and cultural differences that constitute the ecology of work for health professionals. The worked example effect has been well documented within the framework of Cognitive Load Theory (CLT), which suggests that teaching with examples would be superior to engaging in unguided problem solving, particularly for novices, as using worked examples would reduce their cognitive load, compared to solving problems, thus facilitating knowledge retention. This paper, using multiple-step mathematics problems, reports an experiment investigating the micro level of the worked example effect on learning solution steps, from the perspective of cognitive load and challenge (as a relevant affective, motivational factor), testing the worked example effect with a transfer test. The results favoured worked examples on both the retention and transfer tests after learning and showed that using worked examples would reduce cognitive load and impose less challenge on each step during learning. Under the background of the resource-based view, it is of great significance to assess the mechanism through which knowledge transfer received dimensions (tacit and explicit) affect enterprise innovation performance. Explicitly, the study proposes a moderated moderation model of entrepreneurial opportunity types (innovative and imitative) and environmental dynamism to address this mechanism. In a sample of 314 foreign subsidiaries located in China, we find that: (1) Knowledge transfer received types have a positive influence on enterprise innovation performance, (2) The positive influence is contingent on innovative opportunities, whereas no significant association exists among imitative opportunities, explicit knowledge transfer received, and enterprise innovation performance, (3) The positive effect of innovative opportunities on the knowledge transfer received dimensions-innovation performance links increases when the environmental dynamism is in high tempo. Overview: To maximize the rent-yield of the innovation and product development process, firms attempt to commercialize knowledge through activities that require effective knowledge transfer. This study aims at developing a framework to transfer health and safety knowledge (H&SK) from construction companies to project host communities as their corporate social responsibility (CSR) in a developing country. This study combined quantitative and qualitative enquiries into a mixed method. Face-to-face, semi-structured interviews were conducted in a case study of the Ghanaian community and a construction company. 250 contractors comprised 155 building contractors, and 95 road contractors partook in the study. One sample t-test and thematic analysis were the analytical tools employed for this study. This study found eleven enablers of knowledge transfer from construction companies to a project host community and nine enablers of diffusion of knowledge in the Ghanaian community. The study further found that H&SK is compatible with Ghanaian cultural norms and values and that Ghanaian citizens are willing to adopt and share H&SK with their neighbours. It further found that H&SK can be transferred through family ties. It is expected that the framework put forward by this study would provide construction companies with the means to carry out their CSR with little budgetary constraints. It will also help to address the challenges in CSR implementation in the industry in Ghana and countries alike and, at the same time, improve the well-being of the citizenry. The framework developed by this study is novel because this is the first time an attempt has been made to provide the construction industry with a means to carry out its CSR in Ghana and to also improve the well-being of the Ghanaian citizenry at the same time. Information technology (IT) innovation development within non-IT firms has been a key interest, but it is fraught with challenges because these firms lack sufficient IT knowledge. This study takes a resource dependence perspective to examine how engaging interlocking directorates with IT firms, or IT interlocks, affects non-IT firms' innovation outcomes. Despite the acknowledged role of board interlocks in knowledge transfer, the role of IT interlocks in transferring IT knowledge has not been studied. Using a large-scale panel dataset of Chinese public firms between 2000 and 2020, our findings reveal that IT interlocks of non-IT firms positively impact their IT innovation by transferring IT knowledge, particularly when the interlocked IT firms are knowledge-intensive. Our research contributes to the information systems literature by affirming IT interlocks' positive impact on innovation outcomes and highlighting the value of specific board relational capital in transferring external knowledge in need. In 1492, a Lübeckian printer Stephan Arndes released an updated edition of a popular late medieval hagiographic collection Der Heiligen Leben in Middle Low German. From a few dozens of newly added legends, nine of them are about saints who were venerated only in Northern Germany and Scandinavia – or both. By adding these 'Northern' hagiographies, Arndes attempted to domesticate an otherwise rather universal collection – and not only among a Northern German but also a Scandinavian audience. By analysing these hagiographies, their possible Latin sources, and how Stephan Arndes got hold of these texts, the article shows that the edition in question is a testimony to transregional hagiographic knowledge transfer between Northern Germany and Scandinavia. Such an exchange was realized through specific editorial decisions, printing networks, and business connections, enabled by the wide usage of Middle Low German in the Nordic countries not only among foreign merchants but also locals, especially in legal and religious milieux. This case study of Stephan Arndes' hagiographic print reveals that late medieval transregional devotional networks were bi-directional, unlike what is suggested by the centre-periphery paradigm, often applied when discussing medieval German influences on Scandinavian religious culture and institutions. A wealth of literature exists that describes the process of knowledge transfer (KT) as activities, interactions and mechanisms that foster the dissemination, application, and contextualisation of acquired learning into practice. However, little of this literature addresses the idiosyncratic nature of early childhood education and care contexts (ECEC), or the implications the process of KT has for professional development and professional learning of early childhood educators. This paper reports on efforts to address this issue by investigating existing literature. A four-stage filtering process was employed to interrogate KT literature (process, frameworks and models), and contextualise this information for ECEC settings. The paper outlines an emerging conceptual framework that has relevancy to ECEC in Australia, and more broadly, and explains how knowledge from professional development can translate into practice. The framework reinforces that the process of successful KT needs to start by identifying knowledge, and then move to acquiring and applying knowledge, before upscaling and sustaining knowledge. This paper is an empirical analysis of ICT knowledge transfer in a large commercial bank. We assess how the 'potential absorptive capacity' (PAC) affects the effectiveness of ICT knowledge transfer. The study design includes interview data with 10 branch managers of the bank and a survey of the highest-ranking manager in each of the bank's 50 largest branches. The study revealed that the parameters most significant to the effective intra-branch diffusion of ICT technical knowledge are formalization, perceived procedural justice, and motivation, and these relationships are explained by their link to PAC. The parameter informal relationships, however, was found to not be a significant factor. In addition, while some variables, such as procedural justice, have been identified in previous studies to affect successful knowledge transfer, we argue in our study that these variables are important mainly because they influence potential absorptive capacity (i.e., PAC). Can automatically authored videos of industrial operators help other operators to learn procedural tasks? This question is relevant to the advent of the industrial internet of things (IIoT) and Industry 4.0, where smart machines can help human operators rather than replacing them in order to benefit from the best of humans and machines. This study considers an industrial ecosystem where procedural knowledge (PK) is quickly and effectively transferred from one operator to another. Assembly tasks are procedural in nature and present a certain complexity that still does not allow machines and their sensors to capture all the details of the operations. Especially if the assembly operation is adaptive and not fixed in terms of assembly sequence plan. In order to help the operators, videos of other operators executing the complex procedural tasks can be automatically recorded and authored from machines. This study shows by means of statistical design and analysis of experiments that expert aid can reduce the assembly time of an untrained operator, whereas automatically authored video aids can transfer PK but producing an opposite effect on the assembly time. Therefore, hybrid training methods are still necessary and trade-offs have to be considered. Managerial insights from the results suggest an unneglectable impact of the choice to digitise industrial operations too early. The current study employs communication visibility theory to examine the nexus between task structure, knowledge transfer, and employee agility. We further investigated the role of ESM in facilitating knowledge transfer and its effects on employee agility. Utilising cross-sectional data from Chinese employees working in different organisations, structural equation modelling (SEM) was applied to 425 samples using AMOS version 24.0. Results reveal that task interdependence significantly influences both knowledge-sharing and knowledge-hiding behaviours in organisations. Moreover, task complexity positively affects knowledge sharing but negatively impacts knowledge hiding. The results also indicate that knowledge sharing positively correlates with employee agility, while knowledge hiding has a negative association with employee agility. Additionally, knowledge sharing mediates the relationship between task interdependence, task complexity, and employee agility, as does knowledge hiding. Furthermore, ESM usage strengthens the relationship between knowledge sharing and employee agility, although it does not moderate the link between knowledge hiding and employee agility. In this study, we investigate the transferability of the process-property relationship between two Inconel alloys for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). By developing a Bayesian learning approach, the process-property model of Inconel 625 learned from Inconel 718 demonstrates high accuracy with R of 0.95, which verifies the feasibility of this innovative concept. It is further found that the accuracy of the knowledge transfer model of Inconel 625 is increased if the data on Inconel 625 is more abundant. In this regard, the mean RMSE and MAE on relative density are decreased by about 0.45% and 0.35% when the Inconel 625 dataset size is increased from 15 to 60. In addition, both accuracy and robustness of the Inconel 625 model are increased with transferred knowledge from Inconel 718 regardless of the dataset size of Inconel 625, in which the mean RMSE and MAE are decreased by up to 0.7% and 0.5%, respectively. This study evaluates franchising decisions in the food and beverage industry by incorporating an institutional perspective and an organizational learning perspective to account for both economic and social factors. Adopting a qualitative approach, multiple-case-study analysis is conducted on international franchise brands in the food and beverage industry. The results indicate how each type of franchise network – underdeveloped, developing, and developed – achieves coercive and mimetic isomorphism and how that leads to distinctive implications for both the franchisor and the franchisee. This conceptual paper adds to the theoretical exploration of inter-organisational pro-environmental knowledge transfer in small and medium sized tourism enterprises (SMTEs). It does so by focusing on the role of trust, a concept which has received only scant attention in this context. Drawing on theoretical and empirical research, we argue that the willingness of SMTE managers to engage in the transference of pro-environmental tacit knowledge is based on their intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, coupled with the perceived trustworthiness of both the message and social actors involved. It remains a challenge for SMTE managers to receive, absorb and respond to appropriate pro-environmental knowledge, based on organisational needs. The paper makes an important contribution to the work on pro-environmental knowledge transfer in tourism by proposing a model of four key antecedents of trust in the knowledge transfer process – self- efficacy, social norms, credibility of knowledge source and social capital between actors. We identify a future research agenda including the need to assess the weighted impact of each antecedent of trust; establish the influence of tourism networks on trust formation and development; and explore if peer perception intervenes in tacit knowledge transfer between pro-active and reactive SMTE managers. Many engineering problems involve optimizing a high-dimensional expensive black-box (HEB) design space. To solve such problems efficiently, a knowledge transfer (KT) assisted efficient global optimization (EGO) algorithm is proposed, called the KT-EGO, which extends the EGO algorithm for solving problems over higher dimensions (i.e.d>20). Specifically, the original design space is divided into several low-dimensional subset design spaces. More importantly, in order to extract information from the subset design spaces to accelerate the progress of full optimization, a surrogate-based data fusion strategy is proposed in the KT-EGO. And further, a searching strategy with an adaptive variable range is devised to enhance the exploitation of promising areas. To show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, it is compared against state-of-the-art algorithms over 12 benchmark functions and a 28-dimensional engineering optimization for the design of a compressor blade, which fully validates the effectiveness of the KT-EGO for solving HEB problems. The purpose of the study is, first, to examine how, and which institutionalized supplier development initiatives are associated with knowledge transfer, and, second, to investigate the mediating role of knowledge transfer between institutionalized supplier development and operational performance. Data were collected through a survey of SME contractors in the construction industry in Zambia. A total of 171 successful questionnaires were analyzed using hierarchical regression and the bootstrapping procedure. The findings show that direct institutionalized supplier development approaches such as the 20% subcontracting policy and training are related to knowledge transfer. The findings also reveal that knowledge transfer mediates the relationship between the 20% subcontracting policy and operational performance, as well as between training and operational performance. However, there is no evidence of a relationship between knowledge transfer and indirect supplier development such as the construction finance initiative, preferential and reservation schemes. Regarding policy implications, the study suggests that policymakers should prioritize direct institutionalized supplier development initiatives that stimulate knowledge transfer. Herein, we propose a framework for the generation of photorealistic synthetic datasets using High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI) that include all kinds of information computer vision algorithms need. Furthermore, by utilizing the proposed framework, we demonstrate cross-domain knowledge transfer in a semantic segmentation scenario. We found that deep neural networks trained with our synthetic images or with a mix of real and synthetic perform equal to or in cases better than those trained solely on real images. AbstractRandi Engle’s frameworks for productive disciplinary engagement (PDE) and expansive framing drew on situative theory to advance novel conceptualizations of student engagement and the transfer of learning. In insisting that learners problematize content from their own perspective and author new knowledge, the frameworks show initial compatibility with asset-based approaches to securing equity for historically marginalized students. This article synthesizes four strands of scholarship that extend or “reimage” PDE and expansive framing in this critical direction. The strands include: (a) using PDE principles to engage learners from nondominant groups, (b) confronting unequal access to PDE, (c) widening PDE to embrace community funds of knowledge, and (d) promoting intercontextuality between school, home, and community. Together, the four strands illustrate the frameworks’ potential to elevate the cultural knowledge present in marginalized communities while also widening access to discourses of power. However, only some of the scholarship fully realized this potential. Future work should continue exploring how to foster knowledge transfer across dominant and nondominant contexts in ways that problematize systems of oppression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Action Research (AR) is about practitioners and academics interacting to generate knowledge. Using the University-Industry Collaboration (UIC) literature, we investigate the knowledge generation process through AR and whether this process can achieve the dual objective of practical relevance and theoretical novelty. Our study explores this through an examination of the utilisation of AR within UICs facilitated by the UK government's Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme. Through an inductive, qualitative, multiple case study research design, we analysed three KTP projects, each lasting two years. We observed an evolution in the dynamics of the relationship between practitioners and academics, signifying a transition from mere knowledge transfer to a more participatory process of knowledge co-creation. We found that as the KTP project progresses through successive cycles of the AR spiral, there emerges a shift from single loop to double loop or multi loop learning, resulting in unplanned and emergent benefits and outcomes. This transition signifies a deeper exploration of underlying assumptions and strategies in AR projects, enabling the generation of novel knowledge. We offer a new framework by introducing the collaborative entanglement and linear knowledge enhancement arguments to explain the interaction patterns between researchers and practitioners in AR. Technological spillover – the transfer and use of knowledge between defence and civilian sectors – is desired by many countries, and particularly salient under intensifying US-China competition. Yet to date, no systematic measure of spillover exists. This paper presents a novel measure of spillover using a dataset of over 116,000 defence-related patents, and argues that (1) concerns over China’s ‘authoritarian advantage’ should be moderated, and (2) the composition and structure of knowledge transfer networks in the US and China should inform the appropriate channels of managing competition, which I demonstrate through case studies of aerial drones and missile technology spillover networks. Universities are increasingly considered as crucial actors for innovation and regional development through university-industry collaborations. Extant research suggests that the impact of knowledge transfer is largely related to the multi-dimensional proximities between universities and knowledge recipients. However, majority of them approached the issue of proximity by treating collaborations between universities and their industrial partners as geographically static. Our case study looks at one Chinese research university which adopted an innovative outreach solution by setting up off-campus institutional arrangements to mitigate the problem caused by the geographical constraint, exploring how such entrepreneurial effort can pose an impact on the various dimensions of proximity. By doing so, this paper aims to enrich the knowledge of university entrepreneurship, elucidate the dynamic nature of proximity in the context of university-industry collaborations and draw practical implications for the promotion of such collaborations at large. Climate change cooperation projects in the Congo Basin are often rooted in a paradigm based on scientific knowledge transfer between north and south. Their outputs, however, have often been criticized by both policymakers and scientists in Central African countries who claim that the projects are not contributing to the development of the Congo Basin. This study used the Research-Integration-Utilization framework to identify and document how the combination of power imbalances and misalignment of actors' incentives undermined the capacity building potential of a large, multi-year north–south knowledge transfer project. Using data from documents, interviews and participant observation, we found that, under the umbrella of a development project, experts from developed countries pushed the specific aims of research toward global modelling instead of focusing on local impacts on land use in the Congo Basin, which were the primary concerns of stakeholders in the area. Moreover, both the integration and utilization phases were undermined by the power imbalance and resulted in a product of little relevance or utility for Congo Basin countries. Key policy insights As currently conducted, north–south scientific climate change knowledge transfer is not substantially supporting either the development prospects or the capacity building needs of Congo Basin countries. The main cause of this problem lies in domination of the scientific climate change knowledge transfer process by power games, along with misalignment of actors' incentives. The departure of colleagues with a long tenure at a library, whether planned or unplanned, can be devastating for the organization. A review of the literature reveals that terminology for discussing this issue is inexact, but that "knowledge transfer" with a particular focus on "tacit knowledge" and "institutional memory" are useful terms. Library leadership needs to plan for effective knowledge transfer early, ensuring that explicit knowledge is maintained consistently in easily accessible forms, and that tacit knowledge is transferred through methods such as phased retirement, cross-training, and storytelling. The existing empirical evidence indicates that the relationship between knowledge transfer and performance presents mixed results and that it is not conclusive, thus it is necessary to understand the underlying mechanisms that could explain why many SMEs that transfer external knowledge fail to take advantage of this knowledge to improve their performance. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the role of absorption capacity (AC) and organizational learning capability (OLC) in the relationship between knowledge transfer (KT) and performance (P) at SMEs in emerging countries, a context in which there is little empirical evidence. The data analysis was performed using structural equations. The results confirm that the relationship between KT and P is not significant and that AC and OLC play a mediating role in the relationship between KT and P. This study aims to reflect on the spending reviews' capacity-building initiatives undertaken over the years, the experience and methodology employed. It discusses the feedback collected from survey questionnaires developed during and upon completion of each spending review capacity-building initiative and shares a case study of a completed and actioned spending review. The paper details the contribution of spending review training in building capacity of officials working in National and Provincial Treasuries in South Africa. It is argued that the spending review capacity-building initiatives contributed to the adoption of spending reviews as part of the annual budget process, culminating into the issuing of a government-wide guideline to use it as a tool in budgeting processes from 2021. This research not only contributes to the body of work on knowledge-transfer theory, but also offers lessons learnt in undertaking capacity building for public sector officials to promote knowledge transfer. This paper explores the form of intergenerational learning taking place in rural communities in Malawi within the context of changing family structures. It is based on an ethnographic study conducted in Chipanga and Ndemanga rural communities in Malawi. The study explored the kind of intergenerational learning practices in which community members were engaged in their sources of livelihoods. Through participant observation, the researchers examined how and what knowledge and skills required in livelihood activities were passed on intergenerationally. The findings show that despite the emergence of new intergenerational relations, old forms remain key in the transfer of knowledge and skills needed in sources of livelihoods in some rural communities in Malawi. There is a long tradition of intergenerational transfer of knowledge in Nepali communities. While local languages are seen as crucial means for preserving, transmitting and applying traditional knowledge, ongoing social change has raised concern that local languages and knowledge as foundations of learning and cultural identity are being weakened. This paper, based on ethnographic fieldwork in Brahmin-Kshatriya and Chamling Rai communities in the western and eastern hill districts of Nepal, contributes insights on indigenous intergenerational learning by exploring the literacy, language and learning strategies of eight local families. To ease the accessibility of traditional knowledge to the younger generations, they opt for creative and innovative ways of using bilingual approaches, different scripts and translanguaging. The article discusses how the identified indigenous intergenerational practices can contribute to better address the learning needs of local communities. The constant dynamism of the market forces companies to prepare and acquire knowledge and manage it properly, which in turn will allow them to achieve higher levels of modernity, stability, and solvency, thus improving their chances of survival. In this research paper, we aim to investigate the relationship between Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurial Orientation in light of the mediating role played by the Transactive Memory System. The Transactive Memory System is a variable that has been very little studied and understood, but which requires greater attention because it constitutes a common knowledge platform that is encoded, stored, retrieved, and exchanged among the members of the organisation to obtain specialised knowledge in the performance of tasks. To this aim, we use structural equation modelling and further analyse the mediation effect with alternative tests in a sample of 206 manufacturing MSMEs in Ecuador. Among others, the results indicate that the Transactive Memory System exerts a total mediation role between Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurial Orientation. Knowledge has become the most important factor of production with the emergence of the knowledge economy. We use the system GMM estimation method to analyze how cross-national knowledge transfer (CNKT) impacts the total factor productivity (TFP) of China's 31 provinces and evolution of China's ability to absorb foreign knowledge. We also examine the possible intermediary effects of foreign direct investment (FDI), outward FDI, import trade, export trade, and direct technology spillovers between CNKT and TFP. We find that: (1) CNKT improves China's TFP and positively impacts FDI, import trade, export trade, and direct technology spillover; It shows that CNKT not only helps to improve China's TFP, but also provides innovative knowledge reserve for the absorption of international technology spillovers. (2) The improvement in the domestic infrastructure construction level, R&D capacity, human capital, economic development and openness has obvious absorption effect on CNKT, which is conducive to the absorption and utilisation of international advanced knowledge. (3) FDI, import trade, and direct technology spillover play a partial mediating role between CNKT and TFP, and the intermediary effect of import trade technology spillover is the strongest. Organisations are increasingly relying on supplier development as a supply chain strategy to improve organisational performance through knowledge transfer. Prior research suggests that effective knowledge transfer requires absorptive capacity, allowing organisations to identify, assimilate and convert external knowledge into commercial value. The purpose of this paper is twofold. Firstly, to examine the effectiveness of knowledge transfer in institutionalised supplier development and, secondly, to examine the mediating effect of absorptive capacity on the relationship between knowledge transfer and operational performance. We used multiple hierarchical regression and mediation analyses using a bootstrapping procedure to analyse 171 responses from self-administered questionnaires from stratified randomly selected small and medium-sized local contractors in Zambia's construction industry. Findings reveal that knowledge transfer has a positive influence on the operational performance of local contractors. The study also found that knowledge transfer improves absorptive capacity, which significantly improves operational performance. The study shows that some of the dimensions of absorptive capacity do not significantly mediate the relationship. However, the relationship between knowledge transfer and the operational performance of local contractors is mediated by overall absorptive capacity. The paper contributes to understanding the role of absorption capacity in knowledge transfer and performance in the construction industry. Besides, the findings confirm that the effect of absorption capacity as a whole is more significant than its dimensions. The planning and implementation of nature-based solutions require effective knowledge exchange among practitioners across multiple catchments. This study aims to enhance this knowledge exchange by applying a knowledge transfer model based on socialization, externalization, combination and internalization (SECI). The objective is to assess the effectiveness of this model in facilitating stakeholder engagement and co-creation approaches in the context of increasing hydro-meteorological hazards. To achieve this, we applied the SECI model across eight brook catchments in Belgium, the Netherlands, France and the United Kingdom. The study involved deploying various knowledge exchange instruments, which were then evaluated for their impact on fostering collaboration among a diverse range of stakeholders, including landowners, non-governmental organizations, local communities and other key beneficiaries of nature-based solutions. The results demonstrate that the structured application of the SECI model significantly enhances stakeholder collaboration and supports the co-creation of resilient water management practices. We highlight the outcomes from selected knowledge exchange instruments and discuss their potential to increase the uptake of co-creation approaches in planning nature-based solutions. Finally, the study identifies key challenges and barriers encountered in the co-creation process and offers insights into overcoming them for broader application in social-ecological contexts. Policy labs have been increasingly used to generate scientific evidence and political momentum to boost policy experiments, but our understanding of the conditions for knowledge creation and transfer through policy experiments in the labs is scarce. This paper compares the UK's Cabinet Office's Behavioral Insights Team (BIT), Denmark's the Danish MindLab, and Singapore's the Human Experience Lab (THE Lab) to identify their similarities and differences in fostering policy experiment and knowledge transfer. It is found that BIT as the "Nudge Unit" is keen on bringing in rigorous scientific evidence to advocate effective albeit controversial policies, critical to its survival and influence in an adversarial political circumstance. MindLab takes more initiative to co-create and run projects together with agencies and organizations. THE Lab is dedicated to gleaning ethnographic insights from various stakeholders to support design thinking in policy implementation. Methods for fine-grained sample collection are essential for detecting land cover changes at large scales. The complexity of wetland types increases the difficulty of obtaining training samples for high-precision wetland changes, while existing methods mainly focus on coarse-grained classification of urban areas, ignoring the physical growth cycle of vegetation. To solve the above problems, we propose a method for phenological knowledge transfer-based fine grained land cover change sample collection (PKT). Taking the Yellow River Delta as an example, the experimental results are shown as follows. (1) The overall accuracy of the results of the PKT method is 77.03%, and k is 0.42, which is better than the results of the other methods. (2) The PKT method is able to obtain the area of wetland change more accurately and can identify the wetland type changes in the area of change. (3) Making full use of multisource data and fine-grained category information can effectively improve the accuracy of change training samples. (4) Changes in coastal wetlands are the result of the interaction between natural factors and human activities. This article refers to the new European discussion on international knowledge transfer in religious education. Readers are introduced to the background of the recent manifesto 'International Knowledge Transfer in Religious Education: A Manifesto for Discussion' which was the outcome of a first international consultation of researchers in the field of religious education in October 2018. In a first step, the demand for international knowledge transfer in religious education is described. Furthermore, the question of the validity of knowledge in religious education is taken up and discussed in the sense of the presuppositions of international transfer and cooperation. Special attention is given to the relationship between universal and contextual elements or dimensions of knowledge in religious education and their epistemological implications which the authors consider a general and fruitful challenge for the discipline, in international as well as in national contexts. In 1756, two Danish naval officers went into French service. This was a common practice in eighteenth-century Denmark, which aimed to train the officers and to gather intelligence on naval construction as well as navigation, administration, and victualling. Detailed descriptions of French warships can be found in the reports from the two officers, which are kept in the Danish National Archives in Copenhagen. Together with the protocols from the Construction Committee, responsible for shipbuilding, it is evident that aspects of ship designs were transferred from the French to the Danish navy. Increasingly, cities and municipalities are involved in urban experimentation to meet current societal challenges. The expectations on local authorities to implement new ways of dealing with current challenges are high and raise questions of municipal capacity and governance structures, challenging more traditional ways of planning and policymaking. In this paper we have analysed three urban experiments related to transport and mobility in three Swedish municipalities and how they are governed and planned for. The study builds on qualitative interviews and document analysis. Our results show that the municipalities are working with urban experiments on different scales. All experiments are top-down experiments run by the municipalities, with limited citizen involvement. All experiments have become part of placemaking activities in the municipalities with the aim to support and promote both future visions and municipal sustainability work related to transport and planning. Domain adaptation (DA) offers an effective way to align feature distributions of the source domain (SD) and the target domain (TD) without requiring any target label samples. As a method of DA, representation learning effectively realizes the alignment of feature distributions in different domains by transferring domain knowledge. However, existing representation learning methods often focus on unilateral representation transfer, which potentially results in transfer bias. Additionally, most methods ignore the connection between domain alignment and discrimination during the DA process, which easily causes negative transfer. This paper proposes a dynamic weighted dual-driven domain adaptation (DW-D $^3$ 3 A) model that effectively addresses the aforementioned issues through bilateral feature transfer between domains and a dynamic weighted scheme. Technically, we first propose a dual-driven domain adaptation (D $^3$ 3 A) model, which employs symmetrical structures to facilitate the knowledge transfer of bilateral representations between source and target domain samples, learning the subspaces of two domains and reducing distribution discrepancies between subspaces via joint distribution-driven alignment. This process mitigates transfer bias and goes beyond previous unilateral transfer methods. Then, to alleviate strong constraints on projecting SD and TD into the same subspace in existing approaches, we apply a relaxed subspace constraint to bring the projections of SD and TD closer. Furthermore, data reconstruction is incorporated to preserve discriminant information from the original data. Lastly, we expand (D $^3$ 3 A) to DW-D $^3$ 3 A using a dynamic weighted scheme, which adjusts the weights assigned to domain alignment and discrimination based on their significance to inhibit negative transfer. Extensive experimentation on three datasets indicates that DW-D $^3$ 3 A outperforms seven other DA methods, showing its superior performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The existing fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) model of chillers requires considerable normal and fault data. The acquisition of these data is time-consuming and expensive, and the model is only suitable for special units, which makes it difficult to popularize FDD technology in the operation and management of chillers. At present, a 120-ton chiller has only a small amount of normal and fault data when compared with the abundant data of a 200-ton model of the same series. This study investigates the FDD model of a 120-ton chiller and considers similar characteristics of the refrigeration cycle of the same series of chillers. A training set can be created using the 200-ton prior-knowledge data and the 120-ton data. However, this training set is imbalanced, and the common imbalanced processing synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE) synthesis mechanism has an overlap problem. This study adopts two adaptive imbalance processing technologies called the adaptive synthetic sampling approach (ADASYN) and borderline SMOTE (BSM) that can solve the imbalance problem and SMOTE oversampling overlap problem during knowledge transfer. A support vector machine FDD model with 100% to 400% oversampling ratios is established. The best model is ADASYN with less than 100% oversampling ratio, with a diagnostic accuracy rate of 94.33%. This paper presents a pedagogical innovation used in a marketing principles course that requires students to apply for scholarships throughout the semester as an active-learning technique that aids knowledge transfer of key marketing concepts (e.g., STP). Previous research has revealed that when students identify their personality strengths and create a corresponding personal brand, they have an enhanced sense of how to "sell" themselves in the job market. The innovation, though, challenges students to recognize novel attributes in their personal life, thus providing a complete picture of their personal brand. By scanning through available scholarships and filling out the surveys included on scholarship websites, students are exposed to attributes that are valued by employers and society at large. By actively discerning what makes them unique in their personal lives, students are able to recognize qualities that they did not previously acknowledge as a strength. The innovation helps students (1) recognize that their unique characteristics are valued by employers and (2) understand key marketing concepts. Over time, large firms accumulate many non-core technology (NCT) assets that are not utilized and not managed appropriately. Utilizing these assets is a daunting task for them. The extant literature, however, comprises limited studies on NCTs and their effective management. Scholars argue that firms can benefit substantially from their NCTs, yet practitioners lack the knowledge of how to reap this benefit. The objective of this study is to explore how firms can utilize their NCT assets through multiple ways. It proposes a process for managing NCTs based on the open innovation, technology transfer and knowledge management literature. It presents a framework and conceptualizes various potential paths and modes that large firms can adopt to maximize the benefits from NCTs. This study contributes to both theory and practice by exploring different alternatives and solutions for NCTs and opens promising avenues for empirical research for each path-mode.
