Objective: This study aimed to examine the complex associations between Internet addiction, sleep disturbances, and disordered eating behaviors. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 646 students from 17 high schools in Edirne, Türkiye between December 2023 and May 2024. A face-to-face questionnaire was administered to assess demographic characteristics, Internet addiction (YIAT), sleep quality (PSQI), and eating behavior (TFEQ-R21). Results: In total, 644 students completed the study. The prevalence of Internet addiction among adolescents was 16.3%, with a similar prevalence among male and female adolescents. The prevalence of poor sleep quality among adolescents was 6.4%, and this trend was more pronounced in male adolescents, with an incidence of 13.0%. A weak positive correlation was observed between Internet addiction and disordered eating behavior. Additionally, a moderate positive correlation was observed between poor sleep quality and disordered eating behavior. Gender, maternal education level, Internet addiction, and poor sleep quality were significant predictors of eating disorders in adolescents. Disordered eating is a major health epidemic that occurs at disproportionate rates among young adults and for which gender plays a major role in symptom presentation. Broadband psychological instruments have historically not included disordered eating as a core scale construct. The recent release of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) offers an opportunity to address this shortcoming through the newly developed Eating Concerns Scale (EAT) for which the existing literature is promising but limited. This study expands research on EAT by investigating its validity and comparing findings across gender. In 345 college students (102 men, 243 women), we examined gender differences between men and women in the EAT scale's structure, item endorsement rates, mean scores, and correlations with measures of body image and eating pathology. Differences emerged in item endorsement rate, scale score elevation rate, and correlation magnitudes. Broadly, findings further support EAT's use in detecting eating pathology and highlight ways in which the EAT scale may not effectively capture masculine expressions of eating pathology, namely binging and purging behaviors. To assess eating pathology more comprehensively, clinicians and researchers should consider including assessments of eating pathology inclusive of masculine eating patterns. Dissociation in anorexia nervosa (AN) is common (literature reported 29% of dissociative disorders in eating disorders) and higher in patients with binge-purging AN (BP-AN) than in those with restricter AN (R-AN). However, the distinction between somatoform (SomD) and psychoform dissociation (PsyD) is understudied. We aimed to assess the differences in PsyD and SomD, eating-related, general, and body-related psychopathology, and childhood trauma between subtypes of AN. Then, we attempted to describe a subgroup of patients with AN with marked SomD comparing them to patients without SomD, also controlling the results for PsyD and AN subtypes. Inpatients with AN (n = 111; 109 women and 2 men) completed self-reported questionnaires evaluating dissociation, eating-related, body-related, and general psychopathology, and childhood abuses. Patients with BP-AN reported higher SomD and PsyD and a more severe clinical picture than those with R-AN. The SomD-group (n = 41) showed higher eating concerns, trait-anxiety, body-related variables, and sexual/physical abuse compared to the no-SomD group (n = 70), independently of AN subtype and PsyD symptoms. Results described particular features of patients with AN and SomD. Data, clinically, suggest a careful assessment, for both SomD and PsyD, especially when a history of bodily-impacting trauma is present, potentially fostering dissociation-informed interventions. Bridges constitute an important part of the infrastructure and are subjected to damage and deterioration of materials and support conditions, as well as exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Continuous or repeated monitoring of structural responses may add important information for decision-making regarding their maintenance, repair and reinforcement. The use of these data, in conjunction with techniques of structural reliability for the treatment of the uncertainties, allows a better understanding of the structural behaviour and integrity. Modern Information and Communication Technologies can greatly contribute to the improvement of the maintenance capacity and, consequently, to the reliability of the assets and to their operational availability. New wireless communication technologies, such as 5 G networks, are considered as the enabling technologies of the digital transformation, integrated with the concept of the Internet of Things. High connectivity capacity and intensive automation enable, for example, changes in inspection paradigms and asset maintenance, by transferring the product focus to service platforms, bringing gains to productivity, comfort, operational safety and costs. New predictive maintenance approaches, which make use of a large amount of data available, can improve the efficiency of maintenance processes, producing more accurate and reliable anticipated diagnostics. The Digital Twins incorporate all these tools and allow a real-time view of the evolution of the asset behaviour. Crop rotation has been used worldwide for thousands of years. It is well documented that the crop rotation system benefits soil improvement and crop yields. Based on this complexity, the mechanism of benefits still remains elusive. In this study, we used three rotation systems (RW, rice-wheat; RG, rice-green manure crop; and control group RF, rice-fallow) and two N applications (N0: 0 kg N•ha−1 and N1: 142.5 kg N•ha−1) to illustrate the rotation system effects on soil and rice yield under low N application. The obtained results showed that the RW and RG rotation system significantly increased microbial community abundance under N1 application when compared to the RF system, while the RW was more beneficial than the RG system. Furthermore, Acidobacteria showed an advantage in the RW but not in RG under N0 and N1 application, as well as a very close relationship with the pH value, which may be the main reason for the different pH values of these rotation systems. Bubon macedonicum L. is a chasmophytic species of south-eastern Europe. In Italy, it has been detected only in Rocca Monforte (Campobasso, central Italy). This rare species is included in the IUCN Red Lists of Critically Endangered Italian Flora, and there are no studies relating to B. macedonicum biology. The seed germination dynamics of this species was studied with the aim of building up an appropriate germination protocol to be used in ex situ conservation. On the basis of an ISTA protocol, about 3,000 seeds were collected from Rocca Monforte in August 2013. Fifty seeds were measured. The considered parameters were seed length, width, thickness, seed surface, volume, density, surface/mass ratio and eccentricity index. The morphometric parameters examined showed morphological dormancy, where a short warm period is necessary for embryo growth and seed germination. The results showed high germination percentages under the different conditions of temperature, pH, GA3 and photoperiod. Only at 5 °C was there no germination. Finally, the seeds maintain high germination percentages from the seed storage process after 130 and 390 days. In the U.S. overloading represents the third cause of bridge failures just after hydraulic events and collisions. Large data assembled by Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) systems can be used to obtain improved region-specific or network-specific characterization of vehicle loads on highway bridges for a more accurate evaluation of the safety of critical bridges and the failure consequences to the concerned communities. To achieve this goal it is important to develop tools that allow engineers to estimate the reliability of various types of bridges subjected to realistic ranges of heavy truck load intensities as encountered on highway networks. The objective of this paper is to describe an approach that combines field data and numerical simulations to perform the fragility analysis of bridges due to different percentages of overweight loads and truck traffic. Numerical examples are provided by analyzing typical bridges using field truck data collected at WIM sites in upstate New York. The results of the analysis show that the fragility curves for fatigue are function of the percentage of overweight trucks in New York as a second order polynomial, while the fragility curves of bridges for overstress can be modeled with a copula using both normal distributions for the overweight percentages and Average Daily Truck Traffic. Selection was performed for high November weight on ad libitum (AL) and restricted feeding (RF) in mink in two generations. A farm fed line (FF) was maintained as a control. The estimates of heritability for November weight were large (0.62, 0.52, and 0.73 in males and 0.68, 0.51, and 0.60 in females in the FF-, AL-, and RF-line). The results indicate that selection on AL feeding increased appetite and thereby improved feed conversion ratio while selection on RF improved feed utilization. Furthermore, the results suggest that selection for August weight produces lean mink while selection for November weight produces fat mink. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

The aim of this study was the evaluation of carbon supply by different macrophytes for nitrogen removal in constructed wetlands, using a dynamic numerical model previously developed by our work group to assess the results of a recently published meso-scale experiment. The experiment consisted of 12 mesocosms (five different macrophytes plus an unvegetated control, two cells each) drained once a week and immediately fed again until complete submersion with a solution of ammonium nitrate. To leave out any external carbon supply, no carbon substrate was added to the feed flux and no organic soil was included in the support media. The numerical simulations were obtained by calibration of the nitrification and denitrification processes driven by the alternate aerobic-anoxic phases generated by the weekly filling-emptying cycles. The carbon supplied by plants was demonstrated to be the main parameter affecting the denitrification rates observed in the experiments. It ranged in summer from 5.76 to 7.02 g/(m2 d), while the control accounted for 5.11 g/(m2 d). A winter test showed a 54% reduction of the summer supply of the same plant. The observed evapotranspiration rates were also simulated, and were shown to significantly affect the behaviour of the mesocosms planted with different species. Finally, the different vertical root-density distributions of the plants were found to play a relevant role in the development of nitrogen removal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
