To determine the course of adherence to physical activity (PA) recommendation in hip/knee osteoarthritis patients before and after hip/knee arthroplasty (THA/TKA). Moreover, we explored predictors for non-adherence 12 months postoperatively. Primary THA/TKA were included in a multicenter observational study. Preoperatively and 6/12 months postoperatively, patients reported engagement in moderate-intensity PA in days/week in the past 6 months (PA-recommendation (≥30 min of moderate-intensity ≥5 days/week)). We included predictors stratified by preoperative adherence: sex, age, BMI, comorbidities, smoking, living/working status, season, mental health, HOOS/KOOS subscales before and 6 months postoperatively, and 6-month adherence. (1005 THA/972 TKA) Preoperatively, 50% of the population adhered. Adherence increased to 59% at 6 and 12 months. After 12 months, most patients remained at their preoperative PA level, 11% of the preoperative adherers decreased, while 20% of the preoperative non-adherers increased their PA level. In all different groups, adherence to the PA recommendation at 6 months was identified as a predictor (OR-range: 0.16–0.29). In addition, BMI was identified as predictor in the THA adherent (OR = 1.07; 95%CI [1.02–1.15]) and TKA non-adherent groups (OR = 1.08; 95%CI [1.03–1.12]). THA non-adherent group not having paid work (OR = 0.53; 95%CI [0.33–0.85]), and in the TKA adherent group, lower KOOS subscale symptoms (OR = 1.03; 95%CI [1.01–1.05]) were associated with non-adherence. Majority of patients remained at their preoperative PA level. Non-adherence at 6 months was highly predictive for 12-month non-adherence. Physical activity (PA) is crucial to decrease mortality risk, especially among patients suffering from osteoarthritis, as these patients have the potential to become more physically active after arthroplasty surgery. We found that physical function and pain improved, but 69% of the patients remained at their preoperative PA level, while 11% decreased and 20% increased their PA levels. Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop a Polish version of the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT-PL) questionnaire and perform CAIT-PL cultural adaptation with assessment of its psychometric properties. Methods: The original CAIT was translated into the Polish language using standard guidelines. The CAIT-PL was completed on 2 occasions by 105 participants both with and without a history of ankle sprains. Psychometric evaluation of CAIT-PL included an assessment of internal consistency, test-retest reliability, standard error of measurement, convergent and construct validity. Results: The CAIT-PL was successfully translated and adapted into Polish culture with satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.83) and adequate test-retest reliability resulting in ICC2,1 = 0.89 (95% CI: 0.84–0.92). Measurement error was low (SEM = 0.76 and MDC = 2.10). Convergent validity of the CAIT-PL ranged from weak to strong using Spearman's correlation coefficient between CAIT-PL and FAOS subscales (r = 0.39–0.67; p < 0.05). Construct validity was confirmed. Conclusion: The Polish version of the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool is a valid and reliable questionnaire for assessment of functional ankle instability among the Polish population. To translate the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) to Hungarian and to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Hungarian version (HU-BBS). In total, 150 institutionalised older adults were recruited for the study. Eighty-one participants completed the retesting. Internal consistency, intra- and inter-rater reliability, and 95% limits of agreement of the HU-BBS were examined. Construct validity was assessed through convergent, discriminant, and known-group validity. The overall Cronbach's alpha was 0.943. The intra- and inter-rater reliability was excellent (intraclass correlation coefficient > 0.92). The Bland–Altman analysis revealed a mean inter-rater difference of 0.284 [−2.193–2.744] and a mean intra-rater difference of 0.259 [−2.657–3.162]. Regarding convergent validity, the HU-BBS was correlated with the functional status (r = 0.833), Timed Up and Go test (r= −0.824), and age (r= −0.606). The HU-BBS scores of women were similar to those of men (p = 0.104), showing discriminant validity. Additionally, the HU-BBS scores were lower among faller than among non-faller participants (p ˂ 0.0001), establishing known-group validity. Translation and cultural adaptation of the original scale was successful. The HU-BBS proved to be a reliable, valid tool confirming that it can be used in future clinical and scientific work on Hungarian older adults. Institutionalised older adults are vulnerable and at a high risk of developing further decline in postural control, contributing to an increase in limited functional mobility and risk for falls. The Berg Balance Scale is a widely used tool originally developed to measure postural control in older adults. The Hungarian version of the Berg Balance Scale tested on institutionalised older adults shows excellent test-retest reliability, good internal consistency, and acceptable convergent construct validity. To translate ABILHAND-NMD and ACTIVLIM into Norwegian and assess their psychometric properties in adults with Myotonic Dystrophy type 1(DM1). ABILHAND-NMD and ACTIVLIM were translated into Norwegian through a standardized translation process. Psychometric properties of the translated questionnaires were tested. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC3.1) was used to assess test-retest reliability and Cronbach's α for internal consistency. The validity of the questionnaires was also assessed. A total of 39 adults with DM1 were included. We found excellent test-retest reliability on ABILHAND-NMD (ICC 0.91) and ACTIVLIM (ICC 0.93). We found a good internal consistency of ABILHAND-NMD with Cronbach's α (95%CI) of 0.80 (0.69–0.88) and ACTIVLIM with Cronbach's α (95%CI) of 0.88 (0.82–0.93) An expert group of healthcare professionals and a pilot group reported good face and content validity. We found a high correlation between ABILHAND-NMD and ACTIVLIM (r = 0.75), p < 0.001 implying good convergent validity. ABILHAND-NMD and ACTIVLIM showed no floor effect, but a potential for ceiling effect. The Norwegian versions of ABILHAND-NMD and ACTIVLIM are reliable and valid patient reported outcome measures for Myotonic Dystrophy type 1. The questionnaires are easy to administer as they take a short time to answer, and the participants reported no problems understanding the questions. Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 cause myopathy and altered muscle function. Impaired arm- and hand function increases patients' need for assistance and reduces independence. The use of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) to uncover impairments and activity limitations is important in clinical practice and research. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of motivational interviewing (MI) and mindfulness (MF) added to neuromuscular (NM) exercises on improving pain, function, balance, and quality of life in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). This randomized clinical trial was conducted on sixty patients who were randomly assigned to the MI + NM, MF + NM, and NM groups. The groups received four training sessions for six weeks. Physical function with Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index timed up and go, going up and down eight stairs, pain with visual analogue scale, quality of life with SF36, and balance with Biodex were evaluated before and after interventions. Within-group comparisons showed that NM + MI, NM + MF, and NM groups experienced significant improvement in all factors after six-week (p < 0.05). However, between groups, comparisons in the post-test revealed that the MI + NM group had a more significant effect on pain, function, and static balance than the MF + NM group. Nevertheless, the MF + NM group improved the quality of life better than the MI + NM and NM groups (p < 0.05). Adding psychological interventions to physical exercises had a better effect on improving the symptoms of patients. Additionally, the MI showed more effectiveness in improving the symptoms of patients. Adding motivational interviewing to neuromuscular exercises has shown to reduce pain intensity and improved function, balance and quality of life in adults with knee osteoarthritis. Adding mindfulness intervention to neuromuscular exercises has shown to reduce pain intensity and improved function, balance and quality of life in adults with knee osteoarthritis. To assess professional reintegration, the perceived impact of stroke on work, and the main determinants of return to work (RTW) among stroke survivors. A cross-sectional study was performed, based on a cohort of stroke survivors. A structured questionnaire was administered to previously working stroke survivors, 18–24 months post-stroke. Data on sociodemographic characteristics, stroke features and their impact on work, access to rehabilitation services during hospital admission and after discharge, social support, and professional reintegration were reported by 553 stroke survivors. On average, 56.6% (95% CI 52.4–60.8) of stroke survivors resumed professional activity, 20 months after stroke. Approximately 90% of survivors who RTW, returned to the same job and same function they performed before stroke. The majority did not receive reintegration support. The main determinants of RTW were lower age, higher socioeconomic status, and better functional status. Professional reintegration and vocational support after stroke, remained below the international goals for community reintegration of stroke survivors. Future studies should explore the impact of professional and social reintegration on the psychological health and quality of life of stroke survivors and the barriers, challenges, and strategies used to overcome them, to allow for effective professional reintegration policies. The amount of professionally active people affected by stroke events is rising worldwide, with increasing numbers of survivors with restricted occupational participation. Higher age and lower socioeconomic status appear to be main determinants for no return to work and so, a special attention should be given to this particular group of stroke survivors. Vocational and social support after stroke is highly needed to help in the reintegration of a professionally active life. (1) To validate the measurement of foam-tip real-ear-to-coupler differences (wRECD) using an integrated pressure level (IPL) method and (2) to compare the reliability of this method to SPL-based measurement of the wRECD. SPL-based wRECD and the proposed IPL wRECD measurement were completed bilaterally. Test-retest reliability of IPL wRECD was determined with full re-insertion into the ear canal and compared to published SPL wRECD test-retest data. 22 adults with normal hearing and middle ear status were recruited. Differences between SPL-based wRECD and IPL wRECD measurements were within 1.51 dB on average below 5000 Hz. At and above 5000 Hz, IPL wRECD exceeded SPL wRECDs by 6.11 dB on average. The average test-retest difference for IPL wRECD across all assessed frequencies was 0.75 dB with the greatest improvements in reliability found below 750 Hz and above 3000 Hz. IPL wRECD yielded improved estimates compared to SPL wRECD in high frequencies, where standing-wave interference is present. Independence from standing wave interference resulted in increased wRECD values above 4000 Hz using the IPL measurement paradigm. IPL wRECD is more reliable than SPL wRECD, does not require precise probe-microphone placement, and provides a wider valid wRECD bandwidth than SPL-based measurement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) confer considerable risk for negative outcomes across the lifespan, but there is limited research examining whether the measurement of ACEs can be interpreted the same way across diverse groups of individuals. In particular, the measurement of ACEs among early child education teachers has received little attention. Given that millions of children receive care from early child education teachers, and evidence that ACEs can severely disrupt teacher's abilities to support young children, it is critical to accurately assess for and respond to teacher ACEs. The present study examined the factor structure and measurement invariance of the 11-item Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS) version of the ACEs measure across a diverse group of teachers. Data were collected from 605 teachers in a southeastern state between 2018 and 2021. Teachers ranged in age from 18 to 81 years (35% young; 56% middle; and 9% older adults) and were diverse across race (46% White; 53% Black). Teachers completed the BRFSS version of the ACEs measure and a demographics questionnaire. Factor analyses replicated the theorized three-factor solution, with household dysfunction, emotional/psychological abuse, and sexual abuse emerging as distinct factors. Multigroup confirmatory factor analyses demonstrated measurement invariance across teacher age and race. Comparisons of scores indicated ACEs levels varied across teacher age and race. Overall, findings suggest the BRFSS version of the ACEs measure can be used to assess adverse childhood experiences across diverse groups of early child education teachers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Childhood trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are risk factors for emotional distress from trauma-related research participation. The role of dissociation, however, has not been investigated. This study examined the mediation effect of dissociation and PTSD on the relationship between childhood trauma and distress in trauma studies. Pooled data of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Impact of Events Scale-Revised, Dissociative Experiences Scale-Taxon, and Trauma Antecedents Questionnaire from 231 psychiatric patients (73% diagnosed with psychotic illnesses) at a psychiatric clinic in South Korea were analysed. We performed multiple mediation effect analysis to verify a structural model for distress in trauma-related questionnaires. Thirteen percent of participants reported distress after the survey. In the structural equation, the symptoms of PTSD did not show a significant relationship (p =.064). When the two parameters were included in the model, it was found that the direct effect of childhood trauma on distress was not significant (p =.43), but dissociation showed a direct effect on distress (p <.001). Childhood trauma affects distress through the sequential mediating effect of PTSD symptoms and dissociation. Fear of relapse into psychosis is an independent risk factor for future relapse events, indicating its importance as a novel intervention target. Twenty-five participants responded to daily ecological momentary assessment prompts assessing common early warning signs of relapse and self-reported positive experiences like feeling supported by others. We conducted multilevel vector auto-regression using common symptoms assessed in early warning signs monitoring relapse prevention while controlling for positive self-reported experiences like feeling supported by others to estimate three networks (to explore concurrent, temporal and overall relationships). Reporting fear of relapse was positively associated (within the same cross-sectional time window) with hearing voices, alongside anxiety, negative affect and sleep change. Fear of relapse appeared to predict anxiety, negative affect and greater fear of relapse on the next consecutive day. However, none of the typical early warning signs predicted fear of relapse within the temporal window, and the observed relationships were small. Early warning signs appeared to be poor predictors of experiencing fear of relapse in this study. Fear of relapse predicts later anxiety and negative affect and may be a valuable intervention target within the daily life of people diagnosed with schizophrenia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To assess the effects of a group class physical exercise program on health-related quality of life (HRQOL), physical fitness and activity, and safety in early breast cancer women after treatment, a double-phase trial [16-week control phase (CP) followed by a 16-week intervention phase (IP)] was designed. Outcomes were evaluated at baseline (T1), 8 (T2) and 16 (T3) weeks (CP), and 24 (T4) and 32 (T5) weeks (IP). The primary endpoint was global health status. Out of 82 enrolled patients, 37 completed the IP. Global health status decreased (−10,1; 95% CI −19.8 to −0.4; p = 0.040) during the CP and stabilized during the IP. Physical and sexual functioning increased during the IP (p = 0.008; p = 0.017), while cardiorespiratory fitness increased in the CP (p = 0.004). Upper limb strength and lower limb functionality increased during both phases [CP: p < 0.0001, p = 0.001 (surgical and nonsurgical arm), p = 0.028; IP: p < 0.0001, p = 0.002, p = 0.009]. Body mass index decreased in the IP (p = 0.026). Waist circumference increased in the CP (p = 0.001) and decreased in the IP (p = 0.010); sedentary behaviours and moderate and vigorous physical activity did not change. Adherence to 70% of the sessions was reported in 54% of patients. No serious adverse events related to the intervention were reported. In conclusion, the physical exercise program was able to prevent the decline in global health status and to improve other domains of HRQOL and physical fitness. There is a dearth of psychological interventions for self-harm that have been tested and found acceptable by youth in low- and middle income countries. ĀTMAN (Sanskrit word meaning "self" or "self-existent essence") is one such contextually adapted psychological intervention developed in India. It has three key elements; problem-solving, emotion regulation, and social network strengthening skills. We delivered ATMAN in a series of young people who self-harm to optimize the content, structure and delivery mechanisms, and to assess their experiences of therapy and engagement. ATMAN was delivered sequentially by a psychiatrist and non-specialist counselor in 16 participants between 14 to 24 years who presented to a tertiary level public hospital in Mumbai with self-harm. Quantitative measurement tools included Beck's Scale for Suicidal Ideation (BSI), the Patient Health Questionnaire −9 (PHQ-9), Functional Assessment of Self-Mutilation, and session feedback form. Qualitative tools included PSYCHLOPS and exit interviews. Eight female and four male participants completed therapy with a mean of five sessions and an average duration of 50 min. There were no differences in module wise feedback ratings of the psychiatrist and counselor. There were significant differences in the pre- and post-therapy scores on BSI (mean difference (confidence interval)) (−16.8 (−20.2, −13.3)) and PHQ-9 (−10.8 (−14.5, −7.04)). Various content modifications were undertaken during this phase. ATMAN was acceptable to youth in India who self-harm. Modifications introduced during pilot trial phase make ATMAN better suited to the needs of the youth. ATMAN has the potential to be delivered by non- specialist counselors and to be integrated at all levels of health care settings including primary health care to reduce the burden of suicide in young people. However, an extended randomized controlled trial of ATMAN treatment with multiple counselors will help in identifying key competencies that should be developed during training and supervision, and various quality assurance measures that can be undertaken for effective implementation of ATMAN. To translate, cross-culturally adapt, and psychometric testing the Western Ontario Shoulder Instability index (WOSI) into Persian Seventy-two patients diagnosed with shoulder instability participated in reliability, construct validity, and responsiveness analysis. All the patients filled out the WOSI with an interval of two weeks to assess reliability. The shortened Disability of Arm, Shoulder and Hand (Quick-DASH), Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), and the 36-Item Short-Form Survey (SF-36) were assessed to evaluate construct validity. In order to assess responsiveness patients filled out WOSI before and after the physiotherapy and global rating of change scale at last session of physiotherapy. Reliability was assessed by intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC (1,2)), construct validity by two tailed Pearson (r), and responsiveness by longitudinal validity and receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve analysis. The ICC (1,2) was 0.90 and correlation analysis revealed high level of correlation with: Quick-DASH (r = 0.82); SPADI (r = 0.72); physical SF-36 (r = −0.52); and mental SF-36 (r = −0.48). Responsiveness analysis demonstrated the area under curve was 0.90, with minimal clinical important difference 46.87. Women with breast cancer who underwent taxane-based chemotherapy demonstrate diminished postural stability. However, the data concerning dynamic postural stability among women with breast cancer during taxane-based chemotherapy remains insufficient. To investigate postural stability among women with breast cancer during taxane-based chemotherapy. Fifteen women with breast cancer participated in this study. Postural stabilities were assessed at five intervals during the course of chemotherapy treatment. Static postural stability was measured during single leg with eyes open (SEO) and eyes closed (SEC) conditions, while dynamic postural stability was measured during performance of the limit of stability test (LOS). Postural stability was described using 95% confidence ellipse area (EA), center of pressure (COP) path length (PL), and COP average velocity (AV). For static postural stability assessment, SEO condition was found to have significant increases in EA, PL, and AV (p =.001, p <.001, and p =.02, respectively). For dynamic postural stability assessment, a significant difference in EA was observed in the forward, backward, right, and left directions (p =.02, p =.02, p <.001, and p =.01, respectively). In addition, a significant difference in PL was found while performing in a backward direction (p =.02). Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) can cause persistent symptoms suggestive of oculomotor deficits. This research synthesized evidence on restitutive interventions for reducing oculomotor deficits in adults with mTBI to understand if these interventions have clinical utility for improving recovery. Medline, EMBASE, CINHAL, PsychInfo, and Scopus, databases were searched for experimental studies published in English. We rated risk of bias (RoB) using recommended tools, and the certainty of the evidence according to GRADE guidelines. We conducted meta-analyses for similar outcomes reported in at least two studies. Out of 5,328 citations, 12 studies (seven case series and five crossover design), with a combined sample size of 354 participants; (43% males) met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. The analysis revealed a trend toward improvement of oculomotor deficits and visual tasks in response to restitutive intervention. None of the studies addressed sex or gender effects. All studies had high RoB, suggesting low certainty in the reported results. Restitutive interventions may be beneficial for adults with oculomotor deficits after mTBI, however overall certainty of the evidence remains low. To synthesize common or differing perceptions of patients' and clinicians' that influence uptake of online-delivered exercise programmes (ODEPs) for chronic musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. Eight databases were searched from inception to April 2023 for studies including (1) patients with and/or clinicians delivering ODEPs for chronic MSK conditions, and (2) synchronous ODEPs, where information is exchanged simultaneously (mode A); asynchronous ODEPs, with at least one synchronous feature (mode B); or no ODEPs, documenting past experiences and/or likelihood of participating in an ODEP (mode C). Critical Appraisal Skills Programme checklists were used to assess study quality. Perceptions of patients' and clinicians' influencing uptake of ODEPs were extracted. Quantitative and qualitative data were synthesised and integrated. Twenty-one studies were included (twelve quantitative, seven qualitative, and two mixed-methods) investigating the perceptions of 1275 patients and 534 clinicians on ODEP mode A (n = 7), mode B (n = 8), and mode C (n = 6). Sixteen of the 23 identified perceptions related to satisfaction, acceptability, usability, and effectiveness were common, with 70% of perceptions facilitating uptake and 30% hindering uptake. Findings highlight the need to promote targeted education for patients and clinicians addressing interconnected perceptions, and to develop evidence-based perception-centred strategies encouraging integrated care and guideline-based management of chronic MSK conditions. Almost 70% of perceptions related to satisfaction, acceptability, usability, and effectiveness that influence the uptake of online-delivered exercise programmes for chronic musculoskeletal conditions are shared by patients and clinicians. Patient perceptions that differ from clinicians and that hinder uptake include the risk of misdiagnosis, lack of social support, and advice from their clinic and/or clinician. Clinician perceptions that differ from patients and that hinder uptake include risk of last-minute appointment cancellations, the cost to set-up, and limitations of camera angles. We aimed to investigate health care needs, health service utilization, and their socio-economic and health-related determinants in people with spinal cord injury (SCI) living in Jiangsu and Sichuan Provinces of China. A total of 1355 participants with SCI living in the community were recruited using a multi-stage stratified random sample and surveyed by telephone or online. Outcomes evaluated included the presence of health care needs, mode of health service utilization, and specific provider types seen within 12 months preceding the survey. The prevalence of healthcare needs was 92%. Needs were higher in Sichuan (98%) as compared to Jiangsu (80%). Of those in need of health care, 38% reported not having utilized care, more in Sichuan (39%) than in Jiangsu (37%). In Jiangsu, inpatient care was more often used than in Sichuan (46% vs. 27%), while in Sichuan outpatient services were utilized more often (33% vs. 17%). On average, 1.6 provider types were seen, with Sichuan reporting fewer different provider types. Considerable differences in the prevalence of health care needs and service utilization patterns were found between provinces, mostly in favour of the economically more developed Jiangsu Province. People with low income, particularly those below the World Bank poverty line for middle-income countries, had increased health care needs but utilized health care less often. Moreover, environmental barriers contributed significantly to unmet health care needs. This implies the necessity to provide better accessible and more affordable rehabilitation services for people with spinal cord injury (SCI) in China such as community-based rehabilitation programming. To determine the safety, feasibility, and potential effect of an 18-week exercise intervention for adults with primary brain cancer. Eligible patients were 12-26-weeks post-radiotherapy for brain cancer. The individually-prescribed weekly exercise was ≥150-minutes of moderate-intensity exercise, including two resistance-training sessions. The intervention was deemed "safe" if exercise-related, serious adverse events (SAE) were experienced by <10% of participants, and feasible if recruitment, retention, and adherence rates were ≥75%, and ≥75% compliance rates were achieved in ≥75% of weeks. Patient-reported and objectively-measured outcomes were assessed at baseline, mid-intervention, end-intervention, and 6-month follow-up, using generalized estimating equations. Twelve participants enrolled (51 ± 19.5 years, 5 females). There were no exercise-related SAEs. The intervention was feasible (recruitment:80%, retention:92%, adherence:83%). Participants completed a median of 172.8 (min:77.5, max:560.8) minutes of physical activity per week. 17% met the compliance outcome threshold for ≥75% of the intervention. Improvements in quality of life (mean change (95% CI): 7.9 units (1.9, 13.8)), functional well-being (4.3 units (1.4, 7.2)), depression (−2.0 units (−3.8, −0.2)), activity (112.8 min (42.1, 183.4)), fitness (56.4 meters (20.4, 92.5)), balance (4.9 s (0.9, 9.0)), and lower-body strength (15.2 kg (9.3, 21.1)) were observed end-intervention. Brain injuries (traumatic-/nontraumatic, TBI/nTBI) in young patients may lead to problems e.g., decreased health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and causes family impact. Knowledge regarding the family impact and the relationship with patients' HRQoL over time is scarce. This follow-up study describes family impact/HRQoL and their mutual relationship in young patients (5–24 years) after TBI/nTBI. Parents of patients that were referred to outpatient rehabilitation completed the PedsQL™Family-Impact-Module questionnaire to assess the family impact and the parent-reported PedsQL™Generic-core-set-4.0 to assess patients' HRQoL (lower scores: more family impact/worse HRQoL). Questionnaires were completed at the time of referral to rehabilitation (baseline) and one/two years later (T1/T2). Linear-mixed models were used to examine family impact/HRQoL change scores, and repeated-measure correlations (r) to determine longitudinal relationships. Two-hundred-forty-six parents participated at baseline, 72 (at T2), median patient's age at baseline was 14 years (IQR:11–16), and 181 (74%) had TBI. Mean (SD) PedsQL™Family-Impact-Module score at baseline was 71.7 (SD:16.4) and PedsQL™Generic-core-set-4.0: 61.4 (SD:17.0). Over time, PedsQL™Family-Impact-Module scores remained stable, while PedsQL™Generic-core-set-4.0 scores improved significantly(p < 0.05). A moderately strong longitudinal correlation was found between family impact&HRQoL (r = 0.51). Family impact does not tend to decrease over time but remained a considerable problem, although patients' HRQoL improved. Next to focusing on patients' HRQoL, it remains important to consider family impact and offer family support throughout rehabilitation. This longitudinal study found that in young patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) or non-traumatic brain injury (nTBI) referred for rehabilitation there is a considerable impact on the family until two years after referral, whereas the patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL) improved significantly. Improvements in patients' quality of life status may not automatically lead to a decrease of family impact. Rehabilitation clinicians should monitor the impact on the family over time and provide long-term family support with special attention to parental worrying when needed. To verify the effectiveness of experimental occupational therapy plus intensive standard rehabilitation compared to intensive standard rehabilitation alone on the reintegration to social activities of complex patients three months after hospital discharge. Patients with a score ≥ 9 on the Rehabilitation Complexity Scale at admission to an intensive rehabilitation ward were randomized to the control or experimental group. Both groups received intensive multidisciplinary rehabilitation aimed at recovering independence in the basic activities of daily life (ADL). The experimental group also received experimental occupational therapy services to address goals identified through the administration of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM). Experimental occupational therapy began during the in-hospital phase and continued in the home-based setting. It consisted of teaching strategies, recommending aids, and providing personalized information regarding available community support. Ninety-two individuals with a mean age of 65 years (female 44.6%) were enrolled. The experimental group significantly improved participation measured by the Reintegration to Normal Living Index (mean changes 8.61, 95% CI: 1–16.23, p = 0.027). The performance and satisfaction scores of the COPM, both during hospitalization and after discharge, and independence in ADL also improved. No differences in mood disturbances were found. Early post-discharge occupational therapy integrated with multidisciplinary rehabilitation improves the social participation of complex patients. Improving individuals' low-carbon awareness has become an important research topic. Gamification design is regarded as a potential IT solution to this social problem. Although much research is concerned with the effect of low-carbon awareness to improve individuals' behaviour, little attention has been paid to exploring how to improve low-carbon awareness, especially in the context of green gamification. To fill this research gap, our study uses the cognitive dissonance theory to build a theoretical model for exploring the impacts of green gamification factors on individuals' low-carbon awareness. The model is also used to explore the mediating role of cognitive dissonance and the moderating effect of emotional dependence. Empirical results reveal that visibility of achievement, competition, and interactivity have positive impacts on users' cognitive dissonance, which further positively affect users' low-carbon awareness. In addition, users' emotional dependence positively moderates the relationship between green gamification factors and users' cognitive dissonance. These results extend the cognitive dissonance theory and the literature on green gamification. The use of sophisticated machines at the workplace – e.g. robots equipped with artificial intelligence – is on the rise. Since humans tend to experience a threat to human uniqueness in response to machines with human-like mental capabilities, I explored whether the same holds true for status threat, a well-researched variable in the interpersonal workplace literature. Across two experiments (N1 = 104, N2 = 589), humans felt higher status threat towards a robot (Experiment 1, laboratory study) and an artificial intelligence (Experiment 2, online study) that outperformed a human in verbal-creative tasks, requiring agency and experience to solve. Contrary to results from human-human literature, higher status threat was linked with higher willingness to interact with the machine, which I trace back to its high perceived usefulness. I further interpret my findings as a hint that humans are open to using modern-day technology if they assume to benefit from the advantages the technology brings to their own work and therefore accept the feeling of status threat at the same time. The researchers' aims for this preliminary study was to develop an instrument, guided by the Theory of Health-related Family Quality of Life, to measure health-related family quality of life (HR-FQoL) as perceived by women with cancer. The researchers used a two phase design for instrument development: (1) establishing face validity of a 38-item instrument with an expert panel and patient review, and (2) focusing on the internal structure and construct validity of the instrument with responses from female patients (N = 236) with a cancer diagnosis (breast, gynecologic). Repeated visits to clinical trial sites inflict hardships on study participants, especially pregnant women. A newer trend is community-based follow-up for measurements, dosage, or monitoring, through technology or physical visits. We conducted a methodological experiment of performing "community-based physical follow-up" of participants of a trial, receiving facility-based diagnosis and pathogen-specific antibiotics for asymptomatic bacteriuria, guided by an optical-sensor-based rapid point-of-care test. We were able to retain 95.8% participants in the study. Here we describe challenges faced and socio-economic and gender issues encountered in this approach in a low-resource Indian scenario, to guide researchers world-wide for designing mother-friendly clinical trials. Gynaecological conditions (e.g., endometriosis, PCOS) result in bodily changes that negatively impact body image. Psychological interventions (e.g., CBT, psychoeducation) have shown promise in reviews with the general population for alleviating body image concerns. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to provide asynthesis of the impact of psychological interventions for reducing body image concerns for individuals with gynaecological conditions. Electronic databases were searched for relevant psychological intervention studies with body image outcomes. Twenty-one eligible studies were included in the systematic review (ten were included in a random-effects meta-analysis). Studies included participants (N = 1483, M = 71.85, SD = 52.79) with a range of gynaecological conditions, ages (Mage = 35.08, SD = 12.17) and cultural backgrounds. Most included studies reported at least one positive effect with the meta-analysis indicating psychological interventions were moderately superior to control conditions for reducing body image concerns (SMD -.41, 95% CI [−0.20 −0.62]). However, there was a high risk of bias and moderate heterogeneity. Results suggest psychological interventions may hold promise for reducing body image concerns among individuals gynaecological conditions in the short term. Further, preliminary support was found for the use of theory-guided psychological interventions delivered in group settings in particular, with further research needed on optimal intervention length and particular psychotherapeutic approach. Adolescents with chronic illnesses face unparalleled challenges. To better understand these challenges and their impact on mental well-being, the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire Dysregulation Profile (SDQ-DP) was employed as a clinical assessment tool. The primary aim of our cross-sectional study conducted at a tertiary care center was to assess the prevalence of high SDQ-DP scores and its association with depressive symptoms, suicidal behaviors, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among adolescents aged 10–18 years diagnosed with various chronic illnesses. Among the 130 participants, 11.5% exhibited high SDQ-DP scores. Adolescents with high SDQ-DP scores displayed significantly higher rates of depression (aOR 12.37, 95% CI 2.15–71.19), suicidal ideation (aOR 18.68, 95%CI 2.72–128.33), suicidal plan (aOR 23.02, 95%CI 3.48–152.24), suicidal attempt (aOR 25.48, 95%CI 2.83–229.17) and diminished HRQoL (p < 0.001). Early cardiac rehabilitation using non-invasive ventilation (NIV) and aerobic exercise may reduce the length of hospital stay in patients with heart failure (HF), however, there is still no evidence of this effect on patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). to investigate the effects of aerobic exercise (AE) performed simultaneously with non-invasive ventilation (NIV) on the length of intensive care stay (LICUS) in patients diagnosed with decompensated heart failure (HF) admitted to the intensive care units (ICU). Twenty-eight patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) because of decompensation of HF were randomised into two groups: the intervention group (AE + NIV), and a control group. The intervention group's treatment strategy involved simultaneous AE with NIV daily. The control group performed non-simultaneous AE and NIV daily during their ICU stay. The primary outcome was LICUS. The secondary outcomes were the length of hospital stay, peripheral and respiratory muscle strength, functional status, functional classification, and exercise tolerance. The mean LICUS was shorter in AE + NIV than in the control group (6.3 ± 4.7 days vs 8.3 ± 3.6 days, respectively; p = 0.015). Secondary outcomes were similar between groups, except for exercise hemodynamics, which was improved in AE + NIV, as showed by the decreased diastolic blood pressure immediately after the exercise tolerance test. The use of AE simultaneous with NIV reduced the LICUS of patients admitted to the ICU because of decompensated HF. Self-contempt may be a frequent but overlooked clinical phenomenon, associated with a number of psychological problems such as increased sadness and shame. It was shown that self-contempt interferes with productive emotional processing and the quality of therapeutic alliance. This study aims to develop a reliable measure of expressed self-contempt given that a previous three-point assessment may be too restrictive in range, resulting in non-significant results. Thus, the present study applied an extended observer-rated scale to different participant groups in different contexts. This explorative phase focuses on a sample of N = 61 participants divided into three groups, including n = 20 controls, n = 21 patients with a diagnosis of borderline personality disorderand n = 20 patients with a diagnosis of major depressive disorder. Levels of self-contempt are compared between the groups and are associated with symptom indicators. Reliability of the instrument is analysed using inter-rater reliability and internal consistency, which are sufficient. The level of expressed self-contempt is not related to symptom intensity. Patients with borderline personality disorder do not express more self-contempt than the other groups. Expectancy theory supports alcohol expectancies, or the expected effects of drinking, as an important factor in alcohol use behaviors. Recent research supports that alcohol expectancies fluctuate daily, but scant research has examined specific types of expectancies and their associations with alcohol use at the daily level. Consequently, the present study examined (1) the daily association between select expectancies (i.e. sociability, tension reduction, liquid courage) and likelihood of drinking, and (2) whether daily expectancies predict alcohol use outcomes (i.e. alcohol-related problems, heavy drinking) on drinking days. Participants (N = 221; 79.2% women) were primarily White (48.4%) and Black (29.7%) university students. Participants completed daily measures of expectancies, alcohol use, and alcohol-related problems each day for 14 days. Results from multilevel models revealed daily sociability as the only expectancy subscale linked with increased odds of drinking. Daily expectancies did not predict heavy drinking or alcohol-related problems on drinking days. At the between-person level, average levels of sociability and tension reduction expectancies were associated with a greater likelihood of engaging in heavy drinking and experiencing a problem. Findings highlight that fluctuations in sociability expectancies may be proximally linked to likelihood of alcohol use, which may inform just-in-time intervention efforts targeting alcohol expectancies. Gambling severity and criminal convictions are known to be correlated, but there is a lack of understanding of the associations between the type and frequency of offending, game types, gambling motives and gambling intensity. This study aims to fill this gap by examining systematically whether conviction prevalence varies with gambling behavior. The study combined register-based variables on criminal convictions from the past 45 years to a gambling-related population survey (n = 3993). Descriptive data are provided on the prevalence of criminal convictions among different past-year gambling behavior subgroups. Logistic regression models were built to explore the associations between having convictions on one's record and gambling behavior traits more in depth. The results of this study indicate that the prevalence of having criminal convictions not only varies among different demographic groups and well-being correlates, but also among different groups of past-year gamblers based on played game types, gambling versatility, gambling severity and gambling motives. Having a history of convictions was predicted by male gender, older age group, receiving basic social allowance, at-risk gambling and risky alcohol use. Escape as a gambling motive and playing EGMs proved to be significant predictors of having multiple criminal convictions. Gamblers differ in conviction prevalence as a function of gambling game types, versatility and gambling motives. Observational studies suggests that diets and medications affect bladder cancer (BC) development, which are subject to confounding and difficult to make causal inference. Here we aimed to investigate whether those observational associations are causal and determining the potential directions and pathways. We used 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to assess associations of dietary intakes, medication uses and molecules with BC risk. Genetic summary data were derived from participants of predominantly European ancestry with rigorous instruments selection, where univariable MR, mediation MR and multivariable MR were performed. The results of univariable MR showed 4 dietary intakes and 4 medication uses having a protective effect on BC, while 4 circulating metabolites, 440 circulating proteins and 2 gut microbes were observed to be causally associated with BC risk. Through mediation MR, we found 572 analytes showing consistent mediating effects between dietary intakes or medication uses and BC risk. Furthermore, 9 out of 16 diet-medication pairs showed significant interactions and alterations on BC when consumed jointly. In summary, the findings obtained from the current study have important implications for informing prevention strategies that point to potential lifestyle interventions or medication prescriptions to reduce the risk of developing BC. Studies on the prognostic value of the blood 25-hydroxyvitamin D level have yielded controversial results in prostate cancer (PCa) patients. This updated meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between pretreatment 25-hydroxyvitamin D level with survival outcomes among patients with clinically localized PCa. PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases were searched to identify studies evaluating the association of pretreatment 25-hydroxyvitamin D level with PCSM and all-cause mortality among clinically localized PCa patients. Ten cohort studies with 10,394 patients were identified. The meta-analysis revealed that PCa patients with the lowest 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels had an increased risk of PCSM (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 1.52; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.26-1.83; p < 0.001) and all-cause mortality (adjusted HR 1.31; 95% CI 1.00-1.90; p = 0.047) compared to those with higher reference 25-hydroxyvitamin D level. Subgroup analyses based on different sample sizes, follow-up duration, and adjusted times of blood draw also exhibited a significant association of vitamin D deficiency with the risk of PCSM. Lower pretreatment level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D may be an independent predictor of reduced survival in patients with clinically localized PCa. Colorectal cancer (CRC)1 screening tests help in early detection of CRC and improve disease prognosis. This study aimed to assess knowledge, attitude, and barriers to CRC screening and the associated factors among the general population in Jordan. A validated self-administered online survey was distributed on 1542 individuals in Jordan. The participants (n = 1542) reported several barriers and demonstrated insufficient knowledge but positive attitude towards CRC screening. Older age (OR = 1.021, 95% CI = 1.010–1.032, P < 0.001), working in medical field (OR = 3.198, 95% CI = 2.499–4.092, P < 0.001), family history of cancer (OR = 1.248, 95% CI = 1.002–1.555, P < 0.05), and knowing someone with CRC (OR = 1.601, 95% CI = 1.186–2.161, P < 0.01) were significantly associated with higher knowledge. Personal history of CRC (OR = 3.157, 95% CI = 1.188–8.387, P < 0.05), and high knowledge of CRC (OR = 2.795, 95% CI = 2.242–3.484, P < 0.001) were significantly associated with the positive attitude. Several studies have investigated the relationship of greenspace with blood pressure (BP) and hypertension, but the results were inconsistent. We aimed to assess the relationship of greenspace with BP/hypertension. We searched PubMed, Embase and Web of Science on greenspace and BP/hypertension published before 5 April 2023. The methodological quality and risk of bias were evaluated. Twenty-seven articles were included. Our results suggested that higher normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) was associated with lower odds of hypertension and levels of SBP [for every 10% increase of NDVI 500-m and NDVI 1000-m, the ORs were 0.95 (95% CI: 0.90–0.99) and 0.95 (95% CI: 0.90–0.99), the ꞵwas -1.32 (95% CI: -2.18, -0.45) and -1.41 (95% CI: -2.57, -0.25), respectively]. This study indicated that higher exposure to greenspace might be associated with lower levels of BP and risk of hypertension. The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlations of greenness exposure with test anxiety among university students during COVID-19 lockdowns and to explore their mechanisms. We conducted a cross-sectional study with 2609 university students in Anhui and Shandong provinces, China. We assessed perceived campus greenness using a five-point Likert scale for quality, visibility, abundance, usage, and accessibility. Objective greenness was estimated via average normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) in 1,000-, 1,500-, and 2,000-m radius zones around each of the campuses. A generalised linear mixed model examined the associations between greenness and test anxiety and to evaluate the mediation effects of physical activity, body mass index (BMI), and air pollution. Results showed that higher NDVI1500-m correlated with lower test anxiety (OR = 0.871; 95% CI: 0.851, 0.891), physical activity may partially mediate this association. Hyperactivity of coagulation is common in exertional heatstroke (EHS). Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is the most severe form of coagulation dysfunction and associated with poor outcome. DIC, temperature and Glasgow coma scale score were identified as independent risk factors for in-hospital mortality by multivariate logistic regression analysis, and we developed a nomogram for predicting in-hospital mortality in a 13-year EHS patient cohort. The nomogram was assessed by calibration curves and bootstrap with 1,000 resamples. The receiver operating characteristic curve was constructed, and the area under the curve (AUC) was compared. Two hundred and ten patients were included. The in-hospital mortality was 9.0%, and the incidence of DIC was 17.6%. The AUC of the nomogram was 0.897 (95% CI 0.848–0.935, p <.0001) and was non-inferior to SOFA and APACHE II scores but superior to SIRS score, which were widely-used score systems of disease severity. Few studies have been conducted that use biomarkers as early warning signals for noise-associated health hazards. To explore potentially effective biomarkers for noise-exposed populations, we recruited 218 noise-exposed male workers in China. We calculated cumulative noise exposure (CNE) through noise intensity and noise-exposed duration. When the model was fully adjusted, ln-transformed relative mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn) decreased by 0.014 (95% confidence interval (CI): −0.026, −0.003) units with each 1 dB(A)∙year increase in CNE levels. CNE was further included in the model as a grouping variable, and the results showed a negative dose-effect relationship between relative mtDNAcn and CNE (P-trend = 0.045). However, we did not find a correlation between CNE and micronucleus (MN) frequencies. Our findings suggest that CNE in workers was associated with a decrease in relative mtDNAcn which may provide a potential biomarker for noise and for certain health risk but not with MN frequencies. To investigate the prevalence of male circumcision and the willingness to undergo male circumcision and influencing factors among MSM in Maanshan City, we conducted a cross-sectional study from June 2016 to December 2019. Respondent-driven sampling (RDS) was used to recruit participants. Influential factors of willingness to accept circumcision were identified by a multivariable logistic regression model. The multivariable logistic regression model revealed that five variables were independent influential factors for willingness to participate. The factors include that used condoms during last anal intercourse (OR = 1.87, 95% CI:1.03–3.41, P = 0.04), sex with female sex partners (OR = 0.499, 95% CI:0.298–0.860, P = 0.012, level of education (junior college: OR = 0.413, 95% CI:0.200–0.854, P = 0.017; bachelor's degree or higher: OR = 0.442, 95% CI:0.208–0.938, P = 0.033), condom use during oral sex in the last six months (OR = 4.20, 95% CI:1.47–12.0, P = 0.007) and level of knowledge of PrEP (OR = 5.09, 95% CI:1.39–18.7, P = 0.014). Given the willingness of MSM to accept circumcision was low in China, establishing a proper understanding of circumcision is essential if it is to be used as a strategy to prevent HIV infection among MSM. The National surveillance data showed that homosexual transmission played a considerable role in new HIV infections in China. The emphasis on antiretroviral therapy and prevention of mother-to-child transmission provided chances for reproduction among people living with HIV/AIDS. Issues of fertility desire have a paucity of data among HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM). This cross-sectional study has assessed fertility attitudes and associated factors, as well as the reproductive knowledge among HIV-positive MSM. Analysis was mainly based on the multinomial regression model. The study included 129 participants, and almost all of the participants (96.1%) were between 18 and 30 years old and 82.2% of them were single. About 35.6% expressed a fertility desire. MSM without siblings tended to have fertility desire (OR = 0.236, 95%CI: 0.078∼0.712, p = 0.010). Surrogacy (36.4%) was the most desired method among the 86 respondents who had the desire or did not make a decision. While the accuracy of the reproductive knowledge was only 69.6%. In summary, we recommend that providers offer much more professional information and develop assisted reproductive technology to meet the reproductive aspirations of HIV-positive MSM. Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic pain condition often accompanied by sleep problems and depression that are each associated with reduced physical ability including postural control. Research supports a sequential association between pain intensity and depression in FM, and poor sleep quality may play a key role in this relationship. This study aimed to verify a serial pattern of associations among sleep quality, pain intensity, and depressive symptoms and quantify these effects on objective postural control. Community-residing adults diagnosed with FM (n = 155; Mage = 61.08, SD = 7.70; 93% female; 79% White) were included in this cross-sectional study. Participants self-rated sleep quality (restorative sleep, sleep waking, and sleep latency), pain intensity, and depressive symptoms, and the Fullerton Advanced Balance (FAB) scale and 8-Foot Up and Go Test (8FUPGT) measured objective postural control. Findings indicated that the serial association between pain intensity and depressive symptoms fully mediated the relationship between sleep quality and both FAB (95% CI [-.125, -.013]), and 8FUPGT (95% CI [.002,.033]) performance. Findings highlight the serial association of pain intensity and depressive symptoms with objective postural control performance and the potential for sleep and depression interventions that may maximize functional outcomes in FM. The receipt of long-term financial social assistance (FSA) as an indicator of financial difficulties among Finnish youth with prenatal substance exposure (PSE) was investigated in comparison with unexposed youth. Data from national health and social welfare registers were collected for 18–24-year-old exposed (n = 355) and unexposed (n = 1011) youth. The influence of youth and maternal characteristics and out-of-home care (OHC) on the association between PSE and youth's long-term FSA receipt was studied by generalized linear models and mediation analyses. Exposed youth had an increased likelihood of long-term FSA receipt (OR 4.89, 95% CI 3.76, 6.37) but the difference with unexposed was attenuated following adjustments for youth and maternal characteristics and OHC (AOR 1.33, 95% CI 0.89, 1.98). Maternal long-term FSA receipt (0.48, 95% CI 0.35, 0.64) and OHC (0.63, 95% CI 0.47, 0.83) mediated a large proportion of the association between PSE and youth's long-term FSA receipt. Youth's mental or behavioral disorders partly mediated the association (0.21, 95% CI 0.14, 0.30), but the mediating effect of lack of secondary education was minor (0.03, 95% CI 0.01, 0.07). The drug use prevention program #Tamojunto2.0, a Brazilian version of the European Unplugged, showed effectiveness in preventing the alcohol use onset at short term. However, we aimed to evaluate the program effects on its secondary outcomes, such as drug knowledge, behavioral beliefs, attitudes, decision-making skills, and refusal skills. A cluster-randomized controlled trial (registration: RBR-8cnkwq) was conducted in 73 public middle schools in three Brazilian cities (N = 5,208 students; 49.4% girls; Mage= 13.2 years). The intervention group attended twelve #Tamojunto2.0 lessons conducted by their own teachers previously trained. The control group received no intervention. Data were collected pre-intervention (February/March 2019) and at nine-month follow-up (November/December 2019). We used multiple imputation to handle missing data and performed multilevel mixed-effect regression models, adjusted for sex, age, socioeconomic status, and city. The #Tamojunto2.0 program seems to have increased drug knowledge (Coef.= 0.26, 95%CI = 0.17–0.36), and negative and non-positive alcohol beliefs (Coef.= 0.24, 95%CI= 0.05–0.42), according to its logical framework. Nevertheless, it was found no evidence regarding the program's effect on marijuana beliefs, attitudes, decision-making skills, and refusal skills. These findings could explain the effectiveness of the program in preventing the onset of alcohol consumption in adolescent participants. Orthotic devices may be prescribed for the management of foot and ankle deformities caused by Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT). However, the actual use of these devices is variable. No studies have evaluated the impact of prescription, delivery and follow-up of orthotic devices on their use. We aimed to describe the relationship between the pathways followed by individuals with CMT and orthotic device use. Exploratory, cross-sectional, 35-item survey of orthotic device management. Individuals with CMT were recruited from CMT-France Association. Of the 940 respondents, 795 were included, mean age of 52.9 (SD 16.9) years. Rate of orthotic device use was 49.2% (391/795). The most frequent reason for non-use was a poor fit. Non-use was related to the orthotic device type, the health professionals consulted, and the severity of the CMT-related impairments. Follow-up visits (38.7%), re-evaluation of orthotic devices (25.3%) and consultations with the Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine physician were infrequent (28.3%). Orthotic devices are massively underused. Follow-up and re-evaluation are infrequent. Care pathways, prescription and delivery of orthotic devices must be optimized to meet the expectations of people with CMT. Device fitting, individual needs, and changes in the clinical state must be re-evaluated regularly by specialists to improve orthotic device use. Foot deformities and foot drop contribute to disability in people with Charcot Marie Tooth Disease but use of orthotic devices is poor. To improve orthotic device use, regular multidisciplinary consultations and regular re-evaluation of the device by specialists in neuro-orthopaedics are important. The device fit should be regularly re-evaluated by the prescribing doctor or the practitioner who made the device. Regular multimodal evaluation of foot deformity, including muscle strength and length, and the individual's needs and expectations is also important to improve orthotic device use. Life balance is a new and important concept in occupational therapy. New measurements are needed to assess and evaluate life balance and interventions aimed to achieve this concept. This article describes the test-retest reliability of three life balance measures: the Activity Calculator (AC), Activity Card Sort (ACS-NL(18-64)) and Occupational Balance Questionnaire (OBQ11-NL). Data collection took place among 50 participants with neuromuscular diseases: facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (FSHD, n = 25) or mitochondrial myopathy (MM, n = 25). The AC, the ACS-NL(18–64) and the OBQ11-NL were assessed twice with an interval of one week. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC-agreement) were applied to examine test-retest reliability. The ICC of the AC-average total day score was.95 (95% CI.91-.97), whereas the ICC of the weights allocated to each activity was 0.80 (95% CI.77–0.82). The ICC of the ACS-NL(18–64) percentage retained activities was 0.92 (95% CI 0.86 − 0.96) and the ICC of the importance score per activity was-.76 (95% CI. 0.68–0.89). The ICC of the OBQ11-NL total score was.76 (95% CI 0.62–0.86). All three tools showed good to excellent test-retest reliability in a sample of patients with FSHD or MM, which is promising for its use in clinical practice and research. Effective physician-patient communication builds robust physician-patient relationships and reduces medical disputes. However, much is unknown about the differences that exist in the communication behaviors of physicians in different departments. Using a mixed-methods research approach, the researchers used Roter Interaction Analysis System to uncover the communication behaviors of internists, surgeons, family physicians, and emergency physicians at a regional hospital in Taiwan. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect the communication experiences of 20 physicians from the internal medicine, surgery, family medicine, and emergency departments. The characteristics were presented through descriptive statistics, bar charts, and dendrograms. Physician-patient communications consisted of four dimensions, 10 factors, and 31 behaviors. The characteristics are as follows: (1) Internists need to improve their overall performance in terms of physician-patient communication behaviors; (2) Surgeons performed well in building relationships through non-verbal methods; (3) Family physicians excelled in facilitation and patient activation. (4) Emergency physicians performed well in patient education and counseling. The characteristics of the aforementioned communication behaviors among internists, surgeons, family physicians, and emergency physicians can be used to construct indicators of physicianpatient communication in each department and to develop patient-centered healthcare services in the future. Most people in the United States do not engage in sufficient physical activity (PA). However, certain communication behaviors from romantic partners can motivate PA. Research indicates that confirming communication and communal coping (CC) in romantic relationships can increase PA efforts, but less research has examined the role of explicitly disconfirming communication or relationships between confirmation, disconfirmation, and CC on PA outcomes. We examined models in which shared PA appraisals mediate relationships between (a) confirmation and (b) disconfirmation and joint PA behavior in heterosexual, romantic dyads. Sex differences in actor and partner effects were also considered. Partners (N = 144) in 72 dyads completed assessments of key constructs. Results indicated that shared PA appraisals were critical in the confirmation model, mediating relationships between perceptions of confirmation and reports of joint PA. Unexpectedly, both partners’ reports of partner disconfirmation were positively associated with their partners’ reports of joint PA. Only one statistically significant sex difference emerged. From 2018–2020, 19 states enacted Medicaid work requirements as a strategy for reducing program enrollment and overall cost. While these requirements were later rescinded, strategies to reduce Medicaid costs are likely to reemerge as states attempt to recover economically from the COVID-19 pandemic. Here, we evaluated the impact of Medicaid work requirements on adults aged > 50, a group that likely faces significant age-related chronic disease burden. Using 2016 Health and Retirement Study data, we evaluated the chronic disease burden of adult Medicaid beneficiaries aged 51–64 years (n = 1460) who would be at risk of losing their Medicaid coverage due to work requirements. We compared Medicaid beneficiaries working <20 hours per week (i.e. those at risk of coverage loss) to those working at least 20 hours per week on eight chronic health conditions, adjusting for demographic characteristics. Among those with chronic health conditions, we also evaluated differences in disease severity based on hours worked per week. Among those working fewer than 20 hours per week, odds of disease were greater for seven of eight chronic conditions, including history of stroke (OR: 5.66; 95% CI: 2.22–14.43) and lung disease (OR: 3.79; 95% CI: 2.10–6.85). Further, those with greater disease severity were likely to work fewer hours. Thus, the introduction of Medicaid work requirements would likely result in coverage loss and lower access to care among older Medicaid beneficiaries with multiple chronic health conditions. The Osteoarthritis Research Society International has recommended a core set of performance-based tests of physical function for use in knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients. The core set includes 30-second chair stand test (30-s CST), 4 × 10 m fast-paced walk test (40-m FPWT), and a stair climb test. This study aimed to evaluate responsiveness and minimal important changes (MICs) of these performance-based measures in knee OA patients following physiotherapy. Sixty patients with knee OA, undergoing 4-week physiotherapy performed 30-s CST, 40-m FPWT, and 4-step stair climb test (4-step SCT) at pre- and post-intervention. Patients also completed the 7-point global rating scale as an external anchor at post-intervention. Responsiveness was evaluated using receiver operating characteristics curve and correlation analysis. All three performance-based measures of physical function showed area under the curve > 0.70. Correlation analysis showed relationship of 30-s CST, 40-m FPWT, and 4-Step SCT with the external anchor fell within moderate to good range (Spearman = 0.43–0.63). Furthermore, MIC values reflecting improvement for 30-s CST, 40-m FPWT, and 4-Step SCT were 2.5, 0.21, and 3.21, respectively. Our findings demonstrated all three performance-based measures have good responsiveness to measure improvement in physical functions of knee OA patients following physiotherapy. College students, particularly first-year students, are at risk for alcohol misuse and alcohol-related consequences (e.g., condomless sex). Our objective was to determine if first- and second-year students were more or less likely to report any act of condomless sex under the influence of alcohol than third- and fourth-year students. Participants (N = 447) were undergraduate students recruited from a private institution in Massachusetts. Logistic regression models were used to analyze differences in reported acts of condomless sex under the influence of alcohol in the past 30 days, by class rank. First- and second-year students had lower odds (OR 0.40, 95% CI: 0.252–0.648) of reporting condomless sex under the influence of alcohol than third- and fourth-year students. Objective: Assessment of predictive values of clinical symptoms for COVID-19 diagnosis in young adults. Participants: Nonresidential university students (ages 18–25) participating in surveillance testing and mandatory symptom survey between 9/9/2020 and 11/25/2020. Methods: Retrospective study of test results and symptom survey data. Results: Among 6,489 individuals, 288 (4.4%) tested positive for COVID-19, 90 (31.3%) of whom reported symptoms. COVID-19 prevalence among individuals reporting and not reporting symptoms was 17.2% and 3.3%, respectively. The four symptoms with highest positive predictive values (PPVs) were smell/taste loss (PPV = 38.5%), chills (PPV = 31.5%), muscle/joint pain (PPV = 26.0%), and fever (PPV = 25.9%). Conclusions: Institutions should emphasize COVID-19 risk for highly predictive symptoms in public health messaging to inform individuals on when to seek testing or self-isolation. However, low COVID-19 diagnostic accuracy of clinical symptoms and the high pre-symptomatic/asymptomatic rate (69%) highlight the limitations of voluntary testing strategies employed by higher education institutions during the original strain of SARS-CoV-2.
