This paper revisits Michael Cole's influential Cultural Psychology. The goal is to reconstruct Cole by putting him into critical and creative dialogue with John Dewey's theory of transaction. It explores four advantages that arise by reconstructing Cole as a fully consistent Darwinian naturalist understood in terms of an equally consistent Deweyan transactionalism. One advantage is that transactional coordination can replace Cole's reliance on mediation. Second, one can recognize potentiality as a category of existence. Third, it becomes easier for Cole to engage the embodied aspects of mental functioning. Finally, transactionalism overcomes Cole's residual culture versus nature dualism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mental health and mental illness have been contested concepts for decades, with a wide variety of models being proposed. To date, there has been no exhaustive review that provides an overview of existing models. To conduct a quasi-systematic review of theoretical models of mental health problems. We searched academic databases, reference lists, and an electronic bookshop for literature that proposed, endorsed, reviewed, or critiqued such models. Papers, book chapters, and books were included with material by researchers, clinicians, non-medical professions, and service users writing between 2000 to June 2020 being considered. The study was registered with the Open Science Framework (No. osf.io/r3tjx). Based on 110 publications, we identified 34 different models which were grouped into five broader categories. Many models bridged two or more categories. Biological and psychological approaches had the largest number of models while social, consumer and cultural models were less diversified. Due to the non-empirical nature of the publications, several limitations in terms of search and quality appraisal apply. Social model recovery is a peer centered approach to alcohol and drug problems that is gaining increased attention. This approach is well-suited to services in residential settings and typically includes living in a shared alcohol- and drug-free living environment where residents give and receive personal and recovery support. Sober Living Houses (SLHs) are recovery residences that explicitly use a social model approach. This paper describes recent research on SLHs, including new measures designed to assess their social and physical environments. We conclude that our understanding of social model is rapidly evolving to include broader, more complex factors associated with outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In any given environmental education program there are students who have experienced trauma, yet the field has not expanded to consider the particular needs of these students. This paper weaves together strands from psychology, education, and healthcare to outline the concept of trauma and how it manifests in students and to introduce a series of principles for trauma-informed environmental education. Trauma-informed environmental education is not a form of ecotherapy. Rather, it asks environmental educators to have an operational understanding of how trauma shows up in their students and to adopt approaches that have the highest likelihood of supporting these students as they learn and develop lasting bonds with nature. Environmental educators have the challenge of helping students experience trust and safety in nature even where trauma (including individual, systemic, and cultural) affects the ability of many students to connect and feel safe. This paper discusses why and how the operation of power is a central part of the Power Threat Meaning Framework (PTMF). Following a brief review of evidence linking social context to psychological distress and troubling behavior, and of psychology and psychiatry's limited engagement with this evidence, the paper focuses on the different approach adopted in the PTMF. It reviews conceptual resources drawn on in examining the nature and role of power and key ways in which the operation of power is central to the development and maintenance of troubling experiences and behavior which may be encountered in mental health systems and beyond. Minority stress, including that experienced by sexual minority (SM) individuals, has been studied extensively in social and developmental contexts. Still, sexual orientation microaggressions (i.e., exposure to frequent heterosexist/homophobic language) can persist within the family structure. The focus of this paper is on the internalization of these experiences and the deleterious impact they could have on identity and developed systems of pathological accommodation, referring to attempts at rejecting one's sexual identity to achieve acceptance from parents. A composite case is presented to demonstrate the effects of persistent discriminatory events within the family structure; this serves as a set of model scenes, that in aggregate, can lead to internalized homophobia. This paper explores a treatment process that integrates concepts of intersubjective self psychology and affirmative therapy to arrive at a theoretical approach that helps to mitigate internalized homophobia as can be present in gay identifying male clients. In the 1960s, Black Panther firebrand Eldridge Cleaver gained a reputation as a radical advocate of armed resistance to the American state. But Cleaver underwent in the 1970s a startling transformation, re-surfacing as a born-again Christian and, later, a Reaganite. Cleaver's story is not entirely without precedent: fanatical revolutionaries – formerly devout atheists among them – have turned to religion before. Yet, the process this involves remains something of a mystery. This paper explores the process through the conspicuous case of Eldridge Cleaver. The paper discusses two main explanations for his conversion. The first is that Cleaver suffered an ‘experience of defeat’: he turned away from his radical politics in despair following the defeat of the Black Panthers in particular, and of the 1960s movements in general, after which he opted to channel his energies in the seemingly more viable direction of religion. The second explanation suggests that Cleaver's behaviour is better understood not so much in structural terms in the sense of a changing political landscape to which radicals were forced to adapt, but rather as a product of a personality and psychology whose most prominent feature was an almost never-ending quest for meaning and identity that made it difficult for him to commit to any cause for long. The article offers the author's insights on the study by Brian A. Nosek and Yoav Bar-Anan on the scientific publishing in psychology. The author states that one of the problems faced by the authors is that there was either no or slow communication of research results. The author mentions the suggestion by the two authors that scientific publishing should move to full digital communication.

In a previous paper on the application of contemporary self psychology to the treatment of couples dealing with infidelity, I decried the chances of repairing and rebuilding the original relationship if one of the partners was still involved with or in love with an extramarital partner. Yet no sooner was that paper published when a couple who met this description began treatment with me and successfully rebuilt their relationship, somewhat to the surprise of all of us, I think. After a brief review of relevant theoretical concepts, the present paper details the case and speculates on the critical clinical moments and important extra-analytic factors that contributed to its positive outcome – including luck, an influence on treatment outcome not often discussed in the literature. How does color, especially historical color, become inscribed in literature? What relation holds between the materiality of color at any given historical moment and the concurrent literary representations of color experience? This article proposes, first, that in historicizing literary color we should consider theories of color psychology alongside technologies of color production. It then uses the discourse of color in late nineteenth-century design theory, which focused precisely on the relation between chromatic arrangements and their mental effects, to show how historical ideas about color informed the writing of Charlotte Perkins Gilman, particularly her depictions of color experience, but also her larger approaches to narrative. The article concludes by arguing that the model of color popularized in home decoration—one in which colors produce potent yet unnoticed psychological effects—illuminates the relation between Gilman's fiction and her broader efforts at social reform. This paper describes a therapeutic process between myself and Ben who, through his drawings and our co-creation of their meaning, came to articulate and transform deeply hidden and shameful aspects of himself. I look at the material through the lenses of The Psychology of Being Human, Kohut's early thoughts about "various selves fighting for ascendancy" and Togashi's idea of an "intersubjective taboo". The paper illustrates how the complex interplay between these concepts organizes an alter-ego experience. This paper argues that the notion of 'ecological rationality' as used in (behavioral) economics has two rival meanings. The first type of ecological rationality (ER1) as used by Gerd Gigerenzer, refers to the use of cognitive strategies, heuristics in particular, in real-world decisions. The second type of ecological rationality (ER2) as used in the work of Vernon Smith, refers to the rationality of cognitive systems consisting of multiple individuals, institutions, and social norms. We demonstrate in this paper that their use originates in different psychological (or cognitive) approaches: Brunswikian functionalism and distributed cognition respectively. By uncovering the different psychological underpinnings, we are able to analyze the methodological differences between the two types of ecological rationality, the different ways in which central concepts are employed, and the differences in resulting experimental practices. The standard view in philosophy of mind is that the way to understand the difference between perception and misperception is in terms of accuracy. On this view, perception is accurate while misperception is inaccurate. However, there is some evidence (albeit controversial evidence) that perceptual experience actually involves widespread inaccuracy. I add to that evidence in the paper. Then I point toward a way of understanding the difference between perception and misperception, not in terms of accuracy alone, but in terms of precision. That is, I argue that perceptual experience is designed to enable more fine-grained discrimination among the properties that are most useful for action, even if that involves inaccuracy. The view in this paper motivates a new account of illusion, on which illusions are imprecise as well as inaccurate. I call this the Precision Account of Illusion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper explores the intersection between migration, aging and lifelong learning with the aim of expanding our understanding of how lifelong learning enhances older migrants' active aging in a foreign land. Our study also offers insights into the learning activities of older immigrants in general. In 2002, the World Health Organization (WHO) proposed a conceptual framework of active aging, which has greatly influenced aging policies and seniors' everyday practices. Yet, there is a paucity of research that explicates and fully integrates lifelong learning into active aging discourse, and focuses on senior immigrants' lifelong learning in an aging society. Based on interviews, textual materials, and participatory observation in five Chinese seniors' immigrant associations in Toronto, we explore how Chinese senior immigrants' learning has been (re)shaped and practised through re-settling in Canadian society. Five categories of learning are explored, including a) learning language and computer skills, b) learning culture and history, c) learning civic engagement, d) learning leisure, and e) learning health. We argue that 'active learning' can be used as a dynamic conceptual framework that interacts with active aging theory, demonstrating how senior immigrants actively participate in the lifelong learning project for participation and integration in Canada. Community participation as a strategy in health aims to increase the role of citizens in health decision-making which are contextualised within the institutions of democracy. Electoral representation as the dominant model of democracy globally is based on the elite theory of democracy that sees political decision-making a prerogative of political elites. Such political elitism is counter to the idea of democratic participation. Neoliberalism together with elitism in political sphere have worsened social inequities by undermining working class interests. Latin America has seen adverse consequences of these social inequities. In response, social movements representing collective struggles of organised citizens arose in the region. This paper explores the theoretical underpinnings of democratic participation in contemporary Latin American context at the nexus of emerging social movement activism and policy responses. The paper will use empirical examples to highlight how such democratic practices at the societal level evolved while demanding political inclusion. These societal democratic practices in Latin America are redefining democracy, which continues to be seen in the political sphere only. Health reforms promoting participatory democracy in several Latin American countries have demonstrated that establishing institutions and mechanisms of democratic participation facilitate collective participation by the organised citizenry in state affairs. Until recently teacher education in England has always contained a 'philosophical' element – to do with what education is for in the light of human nature. The paper traces its history since 1839, through inspirational approaches – based first on religion and later on psychology – to the critical approach of R S Peters and his colleagues in the 1960s. It then looks at the existential crisis faced by this kind of philosophy of education after changes in education policy in the 1980s; and at ways it has found of overcoming it – at the expense, however, of partially turning away from its earlier raison d'être in teacher education. Families with children are important arts audiences. Yet, few studies have examined the pre-purchase behaviour of this market segment. In contrast to previous research, this paper employs an interpretative approach to study the interactive dynamics of family groups within a single decision context. The data were obtained from the participants' recollection of a freshly made decision -- the decision to visit a museum. Based on group interviews with 37 families with children, this paper demonstrates the joint decisions made by the adults and children together, and identifies four decision patterns. The findings contribute new insights into the active roles that children play in museum consumption, including making purchase requests and suggestions, and acting as the decision makers. This paper also clarifies the role of each child in the decision-making process. A model for joint decision making is proposed for further testing and development in future research. Private brands play an important strategic role for European food retailers entering Asian grocery markets. However, little scholarly research has examined factors influencing Asian consumers' selection of private brand (PB) food products. This paper proposes a model that integrates four key variables measuring consumer characteristics (price consciousness, perceived PB quality, perceived PB risk and familiarity with PB) that influence PB attitude and purchase intention in Taiwan. Two surveys generated 409 useable questionnaires (222 from on-line survey and 187 from face-to-face interviews). The findings reveal that Taiwanese consumers are more concerned about the quality than the price of these European retailers' PB. When consumers are more familiar with the retailer's PB, they have more confidence in evaluating product quality, reducing perceived risk and enhancing price consciousness. Theses findings suggest that retailers should increase various promotional activities, such as offering free samples or tasting at the point of sale, to increase consumers' familiarity with their PB products. Comparability studies on computer- and paper-based reading tests have focused on short texts and selected-response items via almost exclusively statistical modeling of test performance. The psychological effects of presentation mode and computer familiarity on individual students are underresearched. In this study, 157 students read extended English texts, presented on computer or in print, and then wrote summaries on paper in English and Chinese. Besides summarization performance, the students' perception of such effects was collected through postsummarization questionnaire and interviews. The statistical analyses found that the only significant main effect of presentation mode was on the length of Chinese summaries, and computer familiarity did not affect summarization performance. The qualitative interview data concur with the statistical findings, but the students also articulated some minute physical and psychological differences between the two delivery modes and their potential effects on summarization. They indicated further that the effects of computer familiarity might be more expected than actually experienced. Although the effects of presentation mode and computer familiarity seemed to be mixed and minimal on test performance, the perceptual data demonstrated the psychological side of such effects and the importance of exploring multiple parameters and the voices of students when investigating comparability of delivery modes. This paper explores how dramaturgical metaphors can be translated through images of charismatic leadership to a teaching situation. Viewing the teaching context as a dramaturgical service encounter, we examine the student-follower's reception and potential enactment of charismatic images in the pivotal relationship between lecturer and student. Our findings yield the key insight that, while dramaturgical aspects like scripting, framing and staging are valuable in explaining the essential phases of the action of lecturing in Higher Education, they should, optimally, be supported by what we call 'embedded trust' in order for the charismatic relationship between lecturer and student to be productive. A secondary implication of our paper is that lecturers can manage their charismatic image in order to help students become more independent evaluators of the teaching experience. As a prevalent and growing form of customer behaviour, deshopping is on the rise. Retailers' focus on good customer service and the offering of lenient returns polices has led to the growth in this fraudulent behaviour of customers in returning goods. This paper considers retailer myopia in the context of dishonest customer returns, applying the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) using a quantitative questionnaire with 535 female consumers. The findings highlight the extent of the behaviour with 50% admitting to partaking in deshopping. The TPB variables can be utilised to manage and prevent deshopping. The results indicate that currently these customers perceive it to be easy to deshop as there are no consequences with the result that such behaviour continues to grow. If retailers were less myopic they would monitor returns more thoroughly and make it less easy for such customers to get away with undesirable deshopping behaviour. The paper makes recommendations for retailers to manage or alter perceived behavioural characteristics for customers, which in turn, would reduce tendencies for dishonesty in customers returning goods for refunds. This paper introduces an edited volume on laughter and joking by way of exploring the relative marginalisation of humorous phenomena within the anthropological literature. In framing a new body of work in the area, rather than suggesting a collective thesis or unified theoretical approach to humorous phenomena, it argues for the necessity and value of detailed ethnographic descriptions of laughing and joking behaviours. In particular, it proposes that such ethnographically specific approaches provide important analytical perspectives on how people in post-colonial and increasingly global social fields manage enduring and emergent social inequalities. In conclusion, the paper suggests that whilst the capacity of anthropologists to write about joking will always be mitigated by the 'you-had-to-be-there' syndrome, it is this same contextual immediacy that defines the ethnographic endeavour and methodology. As such, laughter and humour represent not only important dimensions of social life to be better understood, but important perspectives on the understandings we already take for granted. The article relates the author's perspective on Jill Salberg's paper of the situation of Sigmund Freud's Jewish Vienna and the complicated relations to gender. The author contends that one of the major contribution of the research is its focus on Freud's affect in relation to his mother. He remarks that the paper presented some queries which are advanced on the relation of historicistic to psychobiographical modes of research.

In responding to the insightful papers of Suchet and White I explore further my own hybrid identifications in regard to the socially constructed category of race. The paper explores the dangers of both idealization and denigration of otherness. It shows how a traumatic confrontation with otherness may destabilize later identifications in favor of earlier more archaic ones. Melanie Suchet, in her very gracious response to my paper, comments that I refuse to "reside in the comfortable." However, any wish I may have had to reside in the comfortable was derailed by the thought-provoking comments of both Melanie Suchet and Cleonie White. Both authors prompted me to confront myself and to examine a number of painful issues. These included not only a resistance to owning my own vicarious traumatization but the fact that I was subject to the return of the repressed as the personal meanings of the signifier black shifted and changed in the course of my paper. Reader-response is a leading school of literary criticism. More than a decade ago, Linda Scott argued that it should be applied to marketing and consumer research. Although considerable progress has been made since Scott's clarion call, reader responses to the marketing literature are conspicuous by their absence. This paper examines consumer reactions to a much-admired article, "Marketing Myopia" by Theodore Levitt. Over 200 readings reveal that, far from being regarded as a timeless marketing classic, Ted's article is considered tiresome at best and torture at worst. However, in keeping with Jauss's Rezeptionasthetik (reception theory), readers' prior expectations significantly influence their admittedly idiosyncratic responses to Levitt's widely-cited work of marketing literature. This paper considers the relationship between a core brand built around retail operations and an extension built around financial services operations. The fundamental question that underlies the paper asks whether a successful /unsuccessful implementation of financial services brand extension impacts positively/negatively on the core retail brand. Findings from over 1000 responses indicate that the retailer brand extensions under investigation do have a significant impact on the core brand. Further analysis, using customers who have experienced the brand extension versus those that have not, reveals that this impact can be negative as well as positive. That is, where a customer perceives the brand extension to be implemented poorly the relationship between the customer and the original brand is compromised. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper discusses Gilbert Cole's book, "Infecting the Treatment: Being an HIV-Positive Analyst." The author provides some personal reflections on the outbreak of AIDS and the impact it had upon his work as a psychotherapist. The paper addresses the importance of the cognitive schemata Cole provides to psychotherapists working with seropositive patients. This paper then addresses a powerful technique, a therapist's self disclosure to a patient, upon which Cole's work focuses. Using the example of psychoanalytic strictures regarding self-disclosure, the author argues that self-disclosure is more likely to be adhered to in theory than it is in practice. The author agrees with Cole that non-disclosure is often a technique used by analysts to hide, rather than provide a therapeutic field of action. The specific case of therapists hiding their antihomosexuality when working with lesbians and gay men is used to illustrate the author's perspective. A specific case presented by Cole in his book is then used to both compare and contrast Cole and this paper's author's use of self-disclosure. The paper commends Cole's study for opening a debate on how to use countertransference and self-disclosure as tools which widen and enrich the therapeutic relationship. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to construct a satisfactory theory of cheng-yi 誠意 (making thoughts sincere), Zhu Xi 朱熹 develops an account of how self-deception (zi-qi 自欺) is possible—a profound problem that has puzzled many philosophers. In Zhu's opinion, zhi 知 (knowing) can be divided into two categories: a priori knowing and empirical knowing. The further division of empirical knowing defines three sorts of self-deception: (1) the self-deception caused by one's ignorance (wu-zhi 無知), (2) the self-deception caused by one's superficial knowing (qian-zhi 淺知), and (3) the self-deception that may occur when one acquires genuine knowledge (zhen-zhi 真知). In this paper, I will construct a theoretical model of self-deception that follows Zhu's criterial definition of self-deception in Daxue Zhangju 大學章句 (Interpretation of The Great Learning), thereby accounting for the possibility of these three sorts of self-deception. Better understanding of Zhu's conception of self-deception could, moreover, open fruitful avenues for further work on his metaphysics and moral psychology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In an earlier paper (Goodman et al., 2018), we found that two models of subjective well-being demonstrated substantial overlap, with correlations between.85-.98. We concluded that these two models do not capture distinct types of well-being – a conclusion consistent with a growing list of studies that have found high correlations between various models of well-being. In response to our work, the developer of one well-being model wrote a commentary offering an alternative conclusion (Seligman, 2018). In this paper, we continue this important discussion by delineating areas of disagreement and common ground. Buddhist psychology increasingly informs mental healthcare through therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), as well as explicitly Buddhist therapies. The central tenets of Buddhist psychology are explored in the Abhidharma, a collection of psychological works from the traditional canon. The Abhidharma includes detailed expositions of the structure of consciousness; the natures of active cognitive processes and passive states; the relationships between material and mental phenomena, conditionality, and "dependent arising"; and the practice of meditation. These concepts are increasingly relevant owing to the continued emergence of psychotherapeutic practices (e.g., mindfulness) with significant roots in Buddhism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper describes the application of structured peer group supervision (SPGS) to support trainees in two distinct but interrelated professional training programs (i.e., school psychology and behavior analysis [online]) implemented within parallel supervision courses at the same university. SPGS was implemented virtually and synchronously and included members from both disciplines. Attention is given to the importance of supervision in school psychology and behavior analysis training and practice. The potential role of SPGS in supervision training is considered. Lessons learned from this cross-disciplinary collaboration are highlighted to enhance potential transferability for those wishing to similarly incorporate SPGS into supervision training. At that time, eating disorder patients weren't supposed to get better, so it was further reinforcement that Self Psychology offered something unique to patients. And that's important, because you know, analytic institutes still offer technique courses, which Kohut didn't approve of, because Kohut was much more concerned with the question, "What does the patient need from me in order to heal?" Many years ago, knowing nothing about Self Psychology, I attended my first Self Psychology conference at the behest of a friend. Risky alcohol use is a major public health problem globally and in Sri Lanka. While a reduction in alcohol consumption can result in physical, mental, and social benefits, behaviour change is difficult to achieve. Effective, context-adapted interventions are required to minimise alcohol-related harm at a community level. THEATRE is a complex, community-based intervention evaluating whether a promising Sri Lankan pilot study that utilised arts-based research to moderate alcohol use can be scaled up. While the scaled-up pilot study protocol is presented elsewhere, the aim of this protocol paper is to describe the intervention programme theory and evaluation design, and modifications made to the study resulting from COVID-19 and the financial crisis. Drawing on the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) and Theoretical Domains Framework, behaviour change theories are presented with potential pathways to guide implementation and evaluation. Alcohol consumption patterns and context of drinking is detailed. The multifaceted intervention targets individuals and communities using arts-based interventions. Four of nine BCW functions are employed in the design of the intervention: education, persuasion, modelling and enablement, and training. Modifications made to the study due to COVID-19 and the financial crisis are described. Ethical approval was obtained from the Ethics Review Committee, Faculty of Medicine and Allied Sciences, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka (ERC/2018/21—July 2018 and Feb 2022) and the University of Sydney (2019/006). This study aimed to identify, synthesize, and evaluate the current state of research on the use of technology-based interventions in clinical psychology through 2017 as a recent innovative area of study. It was intended to provide a critical overview of trends in different tools and populations and identify future areas of interest. This paper focuses on studies published in psychological interventions in childhood, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations using new technologies, including web-based intervention, virtual reality, augmented reality, mobile applications, and robotics, with particular attention to methodology. To achieve this aim, a systematic search was made in the ISI Web of Science for intervention, psychology, and the technological tools previously mentioned. The results of the study show that the use of information and communication technologies in psychology has been an innovative and growing field of study for the last 10 years. In total, 743 were included in this study. A growing trend has been observed in publications related to psychology and the use of technologies since 2007. Resea0rch topics were focused mainly on interventions on specific problems or disorders such as depression. Criteria are briefly proposed for final conclusions, research problems, and research hypotheses in quantitative research. Moreover, based on a proposed definition of applied and basic/general research, it is argued that (1) in applied quantitative research, while research problems are necessary, research hypotheses are unjustified, and that (2) in basic/general quantitative hypothesis-testing research, research hypotheses are sufficient, while research problems are unjustified. These arguments are partly related to the distinction between taking knowledge for granted and regarding knowledge as being on trial. In this paper, we propose a reinforcement learning (RL) mechanism for social robots to select an action based on users' learning performance and social engagement. We applied this behavior selection mechanism to extend the emotion and memory model, which allows a robot to create a memory account of the user's emotional events and adapt its behavior based on the developed memory. We evaluated the model in a vocabulary-learning task at a school during a children's game involving robot interaction to see if the model results in maintaining engagement and improving vocabulary learning across the four different interaction sessions. Generally, we observed positive findings based on child vocabulary learning and sustaining social engagement during all sessions. Compared to the trends of a previous study, we observed a higher level of social engagement across sessions in terms of the duration of the user gaze toward the robot. For vocabulary retention, we saw similar trends in general but also showing high vocabulary retention across some sessions. Public-facing social media platforms, such as Facebook and WeChat, are increasingly being embedded into corporate processes and routines. The use of public social media by employees has aroused widespread interest among scholars in recent years. This study summarises published theories and models and proposes a causal-chain framework for research exploration into employee usage of public social media platforms by systematically analysing the antecedent variables, mediators, moderators, and outcome variables used in 59 quantitative papers. The representative theories include: Social Capital Theory, Job Demands-Resources Model, Boundary Theory, Media Synchronicity Theory, Social Cognitive Theory, Technology Acceptance Model, Self-Determination Theory, and Media Richness Theory. Historically, researchers have studied social media usage behaviours as antecedents, rather than social factors, with many focusing on outcome variables such as job performance and job satisfaction, while the impact of employee social media usage on physical and mental health is less studied. In terms of moderators, variables such as use behaviour, user characteristics and job characteristics receive most attention. With regards to mediators, social capital, job satisfaction, and work conflict are most significant. One of R. S. Peters' interests was psychoanalysis. In this paper, I explore the relation between Peters' philosophy of moral education and his Freudian psychology. In section 2 of the paper, I introduce Peters' Freudian supplementation of the Piaget-Kohlberg model of moral development. To clarify the way in which Peters deals with two unresolved issues of this model, I examine, in section 3, his account of Freud's conceptions of mental health and illness, character and the emotions. In section 4, I bring to light the continuity between Freudian psychology and Peters' levels of life theory. In section 5, I employ this Freud-inspired anthropological theory to elucidate Peters' comprehensive analysis of the concept of education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a distance-based doctoral supervisory model to support students in the process of navigating self, agency, and emotions over their doctoral journey. The model emerged through our examination of the lived experiences of three Chinese female doctoral students who, though enrolled as internal students in our New Zealand university, were prevented by the pandemic from returning from their Spring Festival sojourn to China, and continued their study by distance. We employed narrative analysis to deeply engage with their stories shared in diaries and one-on-one interviews, alongside social media interactions. These revealed a strong commitment to study emanating from answerability toward their research projects, already underway, and agentive actions to maintain peer-to-peer academic and emotional support, enabling resilience and reflexivity about personal values and needs. The vulnerable children refer to the special group of children with deviation in the process of children's psychological development and personality formation due to growth dilemmas. This may incur a series of serious social and family problems. The vulnerable children mainly cover the children suffering from children's psychological problems, such as childhood autism, autism, social anxiety and hypersensitivity, fear, depression, and PTSD arising from other factors. At present, the research results at home and abroad mainly focus on the psychological dynamic correlation investigation and solution discussion of a certain kind of difficult factor in the children's psychological development based on statistical data by the experimental methods, such as scale and model, and there is a blind spot in the humanistic orientation theory construction of psychological treatment for vulnerable children, causing the social reflection on children's psychological predicament from the humanistic perspective cannot be performed in related researches and going against searching for universal and integral theoretical paradigm for solving related problems. Sophisticated technologies for the observations have emerged increasingly for enabling the psychological features of vulnerable children through developmental cognitive neuroscience experiments. This paper introduces humanistic art therapy theory, focuses on the construction of a theoretical paradigm, and verifies its effectiveness based on the experimental results on the psychological development of vulnerable children, with an efficient performance. This study mainly refers to children with difficulty in social inclusion and psychological development. The results showed that two kinds of art therapy can obviously improve the psychological disorders of vulnerable children. In this article, we offer an overview of the philosophical and psychological literatures on expertise. Work so far has failed to engage with recent work in embodied and encultured cognition--in particular the notions of interactivity and semiosis. We suggest how bringing these concepts on board reveals new areas of research concerning the philosophy and psychology of expertise. We conclude with a brief synopsis of each paper. Focusing on section I, 35 and I, 36 of Friedrich Nietzsche's Human, All Too Human, as well as other related works, this paper examines Nietzsche's evaluation of François de La Rochefoucauld's psychological observation in the latter's maxims. It argues that, in Nietzsche's view, La Rochefoucauld's perspicacity in detecting moral psychology is crystallized both in the form of maxim and the messages derived from psychological observation that are conveyed in the maxims. It contends that the readers' reactions to these maxims also render their passions and desires tangible and intelligible for La Rochefoucauld's and Nietzsche's observations of their psyche. Furthermore, by exploring Nietzsche's contrasting assessments of La Rochefoucauld's maxims, we can also illuminate his own theory of moral psychology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
